Resumo: Considerando a saída significativa de alunos no primeiro ano do curso de Licenciatura em Ciências da Universidade Federal de São Paulo e o cenário sócio-político da expansão do ensino superior no país, problematizamos o emprego do conceito de evasão para referir-se a essa saída prematura. Por meio de uma pesquisa-ação com a participação de alunos e de pesquisadores coletamos dados de 2011 a 2016 em questionários online e no diário de campo. Nossos resultados indicam ser necessário uma permanente precisão conceitual do termo evasão, na medida em que a saída antecipada de discentes não se configurou apenas com situações decorrentes do abandono do compromisso com os estudos devido ao insucesso escolar. Diferentemente do descrito em parte da literatura e nas ações institucionais em vários níveis, o discente altera, preventivamente, suas opções de estudo, considerando a mobilidade, as condições de precariedade e as pressões relativas ao trabalho.

Abstract: Considering the significant dropout of students in the first year of the Sciences - Licentiate Degree of the Federal University of São Paulo and the socio-political scenario of the expansion of higher education in the country, we problematize the use of the concept of avoidance to refer to this premature exit. Through action research, with the participation of students and researchers, we collected data, from 2011 to 2016, in online questionnaires and field diaries. Our results indicate an inadequacy or a permanent need for conceptual precision in relation to the invariant "evasion" component, since the early departure of students was not only a result of the abandonment of the commitment to the studies due to school failure. Differently from what is described in part of the literature and in institutional actions at various levels, students, considering mobility, precarious conditions and work-related pressures, change their options of study preventively.

Resumo: A temática desse estudo, que ganha destaque no cenário de baixa atratividade da carreira docente, discute os primeiros anos profissionais de uma professora da rede pública paulista. Os resultados indicam o trabalho sentido como gerador de desgaste emocional sendo este período vivido com dificuldade e com o desejo de abandonar a profissão. Após breve mapeamento das políticas existentes sobre a área apontam-se aspectos que merecem atenção do poder público como a criação de políticas sistemáticas de apoio e acolhida ao professor iniciante. Por fim, sugere-se a implantação de comunidades profissionais de aprendizagem, em que esses profissionais possam encontrar, quando necessário, recursos, orientação e aprimoramento profissional.

Abstract: The article discusses how a beginning teacher from São Paulo public education system feels and means her profession, a theme that is highlighted in the low attractiveness of the teaching profession scenario. The results indicate the work felt as emotional stress generator, being the initial years lived with difficulty and with a desire to leave the profession. After a brief mapping of existing policies to support beginning teachers, the study points to aspects that deserve attention from the government, like the creation of systematic supporting and welcoming policies to these professionals. Finally, it is suggested the implementation of professional learning communities where beginners can find, when needed, resources, guidance and professional development.

Resumo: Objetiva, por meio de revisão bibliográfica, analisar algumas das questões que envolvem a profissão docente na atualidade, como a dificuldade de estabelecer um status profissional para os professores e os atuais desafios enfrentados por eles no cenário educacional brasileiro. Os dados oferecem informações sobre a instituição da atividade no País, aspectos que questionam a legitimação dos professores como profissionais da educação e algumas questões que precisam ser consideradas com vistas à superação desse questionamento. Entre estas últimas, foi possível concluir que se faz urgente e necessário discutir a reestruturação da formação inicial e continuada como eixo central que se articule a políticas educacionais voltadas à valorização da carreira, das condições de trabalho e da remuneração, enfim, ações em prol de se atrair e reter bons profissionais para a docência, colocando-a num lugar social compatível com uma nação que se quer desenvolvida.

Abstract: Based on a literature review, the article aimed to analyze some of the issues surrounding the teaching profession today, such as the difficulty of establishing a professional status for teachers and the challenges they face in the current Brazilian educational scenario. The data provide information on the institution of the profession in the country, aspects that question the legitimacy of teachers as education professionals, and some points that need to be considered with a view to overcoming this challenge. In relation to these points, it was concluded that it is urgent and necessary to discuss the restructuring of initial and continuing education as a central axis linked to educational policies aimed at the enhancement of teachers' career, working conditions and remuneration, that is to say, actions for attracting and retaining good professionals for the teaching career, placing the profession in a social position consistent with that of a nation that wants to be developed.
