However, there is still a lack of reliable information regarding the effectiveness of low-volume spraying and the droplet spectrum for contact herbicides, such as fomesafen. The objective was to determine the spray volume and droplet spectrum for applying the fomesafen herbicide and its efficacy in controlling hairy beggarticks (Bidens pilosa) and littlebell (Ipomoea triloba). The herbicide was applied using a CO2-pressurized knapsack sprayer with TT11002 spray tip spaced at 0.50 m, operating at pressures of 100 kPa (very coarse droplets) and 400 kPa (medium-sized droplets) with spray volumes of 35, 70, 140, and 280 L ha-1, obtained by varying the application speed. At the time of application, the percentage of covered area and droplet density (droplets cm-²) were evaluated on water-sensitive paper labels using the DropScope® program. The best control results for hairy beggarticks were achieved when the application was performed with very coarse droplets at a pressure of 100 kPa, with a spray volume between 65 and 280 L ha-1, droplet density exceeding 60 droplets cm-2, and coverage greater than 10%. RESUMO Dentre os métodos de controle de plantas daninhas, o químico, por meio de herbicidas, é um dos mais utilizados devido à sua praticidade e eficiência. No entanto, ainda faltam informações confiáveis sobre a eficácia de aplicações em baixo volume e o espectro de gotas a ser utilizado para herbicidas de contato, como o fomesafen. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar o volume de calda e espectro de gotas para aplicação do herbicida fomesafen, bem como a eficácia no controle de picão-preto (Bidens pilosa) e corda-de-viola (Ipomoea triloba). O herbicida foi aplicado utilizando pulverizador pressurizado por CO2, com pontas TT11002 espaçadas de 0,50 m, operando nas pressões de 100 kPa (gotas muito grossas) e 400 kPa (gotas médias) nos volumes de calda de 35, 70, 140 e 280 L ha-1, obtidos por meio da variação na velocidade de aplicação. ABSTRACT: This study assessed distributions associated with Bayesian nonlinear modeling error in the description of total plant dry matteraccumulation (TDMA) of Allium sativumas a function of days after planting (DAP). According to the DIC criterion, Logistic and Gompertzmodels that use student’s t distribution error exhibited the highest DIC with logistic error distribution. RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar algumas distribuições associadas ao erro na modelagem não linear bayesiana na descrição do acúmulo de matéria seca total da planta (MSTP) de Allium sativum em função dos dias após o plantio (DAP). Pelo critério DIC os modelos Logístico e Gompertz que utilizam a distribuição do erro t de Student apresentaram a melhor qualidade de ajuste, sendo que o modelo Logístico apresentou o maior DIC com a distribuição de erro Logística. ABSTRACT The collapse of the Fundão Dam in Mariana, MG, in 2015 introduced the challenge of using Technosol, a soil type formed by deposition of iron mining waste along the Doce River banks, for agricultural purposes. This study aimed to determine the optimal water depth for enhancing production of tropical forage, Megathyrsus maximus cv. Mombasa, when grown on iron ore tailings. Additionally, it sought to establish a crop coefficient applicable to the edaphoclimatic conditions of Viçosa, MG, Brazil. The experiment was conducted throughout the summer, fall, and winter of 2022, employing 21 drainage lysimeters. A completely randomized experimental design was adopted, featuring six treatment groups (plants in Technosol receiving water depths ranging from 20 to 120% of the crop’s evapotranspiration, as derived from the control treatment), along with a control group (plants in Latosol with a depth of 100%), each with three repetitions. Our findings showed that irrigation must replace 40% of the crop evapotranspiration. RESUMO O rompimento da Barragem do Fundão em Mariana, MG, ocorrida em 2015, trouxe o desafio de usar o Tecnossolo (tipo de solo) formado pela deposição do rejeito de mineração de ferro nas margens do Rio Doce para agricultura. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi obter a lâmina de água para otimizar a produção da forragem tropical Megathyrsus maximum cv. Mombaça, cultivada em rejeito de mineração de ferro e determinar seu coeficiente de cultura para as condições edafoclimáticas de Viçosa, MG. ABSTRACT. Climate change and the expansion of agricultural lands to low-fertility soils have prompted studies on the effects of water and nutritional stress on nutrient uptake and use. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of absorption, translocation, and use of N in coffee cultivars under water stress (WS) and different N doses. The experiment was performed hydroponically and arranged in a 4 × 2 × 4 factorial randomized block design with three replications. These factors consisted of four coffee varieties, two N doses, and four levels of WS. At the end of the experiment, the dry matter production, N concentration, and N accumulation of plants, as well as nutritional efficiency indices were evaluated. The data were subjected to analysis of variance and regression. The results showed that in plants previously well-supplied with N, N stress induces greater allocation of dry matter in roots, mitigating the effects of subsequent water deficits on shoot dry matter production. ABSTRACT Coffee holds significant economic and social importance for Brazil, being one of the main commodities in global agribusiness. Coffee growers, particularly those cultivating arabica coffee, face challenges due to labor shortages and high associated costs during manual harvesting. This study aimed to evaluate the operational performance and efficiency of a self-propelled coffee harvester prototype in terraced mountain areas. To assess harvesting losses, efficiency, and operational capacity, the experimental model traversed the designated area entirely. Fruit stripping was performed over the collection system at five different terrain incline angles (8°, 17°, 25°, 30°, and 38°). Harvesting loss was determined by the ratio of the mass of fruits retained by the collection system to the total mass of harvested fruits. For comparison, the efficiency and operational capacity of two workers performing manual fruit harvesting were also measured. Terrain slope did not significantly impact harvesting losses or operational capacity. The highest operational capacity was 0.11 ha h⁻¹, achieved at a 17° slope. RESUMO O Brasil atribui significativa importância econômica e social ao café, o qual é uma das principais commodities do agronegócio global. Os cafeicultores, especialmente aqueles que plantam café arábica, enfrentam desafios devido à falta de mão de obra e aos altos custos associados à colheita manual. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o desempenho operacional e a eficiência de um protótipo de colhedora autopropelida de café de montanha com terraços. Com o propósito de avaliar as perdas durante o processo de colheita, bem como a eficiência e a capacidade operacional, o modelo experimental percorreu integralmente a área designada. Durante esse percurso, foi efetuado a derriça dos frutos sobre o sistema de recolhimento, considerando cinco diferentes ângulos de inclinação do terreno (8°, 17°, 25°, 30°, 38°). A perda foi determinada pela relação entre a massa de frutos retidas pelo sistema de recolhimento e a massa total de frutos colhidos. ABSTRACT Lychees are perishable fruits, and the application of ozone is a promising technology to preserve their quality. This study aimed to determine the effects of ozone gas and ozonated mist on the physicochemical properties of lychees. Two assays were performed using ozone gas and ozonated mist. The experiments were performed using a split-plot scheme, in which the plots corresponded to the treatments (ozone concentration or exposure time) and the subplots to the storage time, following a completely randomized design with three replicates. In the first experiment, ozone gas concentrations were tested (10 and 20 mg L-1) at exposure times of 15, 30, and 45 min. Corresponding control treatments included fruits that were non-exposed to ozone gas. In the second experiment, an ozone concentration was set (20 mg L-1) for exposure times of 3, 5, and 7 min. Exposure to ozone-free mist for 3, 5, and 7 min and control treatment were performed. The quality parameters of lychee fruits were assessed immediately after treatment (day 0) and on days 2, 4, 6, 7, and 8. Ozone gas was more effective for postharvest preservation of lychee than ozonated mist. Ozone gas was also proven to be more efficient than ozonated mist in maintaining the color of lychee peels. RESUMO A lichia é uma fruta perecível e a aplicação do ozônio destaca-se como uma tecnologia promissora na preservação da qualidade destes frutos. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar os efeitos da aplicação do gás O3 e névoa ozonizada na qualidade físico-química de lichia. Foram realizados dois ensaios: gás ozônio e névoa ozonizada. ABSTRACT Brazil is the world’s largest soybean exporter. Over half of the cultivated area is in the Brazilian Savanna (Cerrado) region, where soybean is typically grown under rainfed conditions. However, soybeans have been cultivated in irrigated systems, further increasing water demand in the region, which already faces water problems. Therefore, it is crucial to generate technical information to support the management of water resources in irrigated soybean crops. This study aimed to estimate the water deficit sensitivity index of soybean crops. Two field experiments were carried out in randomized blocks with four treatments and four replicates from May to Aug 2019 and 2021. Three treatments with irrigation suspension were applied in three different phenological stages: vegetative, reproductive, and seed filling, and a fully irrigated control plot to meet the total plant demand. The results showed 40 % and 34 % reductions in soybean seed yield when water deficit was applied in stages R1-R5 and R5-R7, respectively, compared to the control treatment. There was a linear correlation with r2 values equal to 0.98, 0.97, and 0.99 for the relationships between seed yield and applied irrigation, seed yield and actual evapotranspiration (ETa), and ETa and irrigation, respectively. ABSTRACT: Given the importance of describing the accumulation of total dry matter in garlic accessions and the advantage of Nonlinear Mixed Effect Models (NLME) in this process, the present work research compared four nonlinear equations (Gompertz, Logistic, Richards, and von Bertalanffy) in the fit of accumulation of total dry matter per plant of 30 garlic accessions. The objective was also to identify the best accessions according to each growth parameter by estimating the random effects around the mean through the best among the models. The analysis was carried out using the R software. The best model was the Logistic according to the criteria used for comparison (AIC, BIC, R a j . 2, MSE and MAE), presenting estimates closer to the actual observed values. According to the random effects estimated by this model, which represent deviations from the mean, the accessions that showed the highest asymptotic weight were 4505, 4826 and 4500, while accessions 4826, 4837 and 4491 took longer to reach the inflection point of the curve. The NLME approach used one fit per equation to obtain information on all individuals in the sample, efficiently adjusting the accumulated total dry matter and identifying the best accessions according to the estimated random effects of its parameters. RESUMO: Diante da importância de descrever o acúmulo de matéria seca total em acessos de alho e a vantagem dos Modelos Não Lineares Mistos (MNLM) nesse processo, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo comparar quatro equações não lineares (Gompertz, Logístico, Richards e von Bertalanffy) no ajuste do acúmulo de matéria seca total por planta de 30 acessos de alho. O objetivo também foi identificar os melhores acessos de acordo com cada parâmetro de crescimento, estimando os efeitos aleatórios em torno da média através do melhor entre os modelos. A análise foi realizada com o uso do software R. O melhor modelo foi o Logístico segundo os critérios utilizados para comparação (AIC, BIC, R a j . 2, EQM e EAM), apresentando estimativas mais próximas dos valores reais observados. ABSTRACT Searching for novel sources of resistance to head blast is essential to strengthen wheat production in the Cerrado´s biome. The objective of this work was to evaluate disease intensity measures and yield for 2NS and non-2NS carriers wheat genotypes with varying heading times in Minas Gerais, Brazil. A total of fourteen wheat genotypes, two susceptible and twelve resistant to head blast, were sown in 2014, 2015, and 2017 at the Sertãozinho Experimental Station of Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuária de Minas Gerais (Epamig) during three sowing dates without fungicide applications. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with three replicates. Blast incidence, severity, disease index and grain yield were influenced by the cycle of wheat genotypes and the sowing date, with the highest disease intensities and the lowest yields in the earliest sowing date. Blast incidence and disease index correlated negatively with grain yield and positively with percent yield losses. ABSTRACT Tephrosia egregia Sandwith is a species that develops in some States of the Northeast region of Brazil. It is propagated by seeds and has considerable potential for restoration. Thus, studies related to seed germination are important for the species. The aims were to characterize the post-seminal development and evaluate the germination response of the seeds under different temperatures and water stress and salt stress. Germination tests were performed at 20, 25, 30 and 20-30 °C and under PEG 6000 and NaCl concentrations (-0.2, -0.4, -0.6 and -0.8 MPa). The germination test should be conducted in a paper roll at 25 ºC for 14 days. Seed germination declines from the water potential of -0.2 MPa on; the species is sensitive to water stress. Under salt stress, there is more accentuated decline in germination as from -0.4 MPa, and this is an indication have a certain tolerance to salinity. Resumo A mangueira ‘Ubá’ é encontrada em todos os municípios da Zona da Mata, e seus frutos são destinados tanto para consumo in natura como para o processamento. No entanto, há grande heterogeneidade entre plantas nos pomares, o que contribui para a baixa produtividade da cultura. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar e selecionar acessos superiores de mangueiras ‘Ubá’ coletados em Ubá, Visconde do Rio Branco e Viçosa, com base em características agronômicas, visando à produção de frutos de qualidade. O experimento foi instalado em Visconde do Rio Branco-MG. Foram avaliados 195 acessos de mangueira ‘Ubá’, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições, de uma árvore cada. Foram avaliadas as produções das cinco primeiras safras (massa, número de frutos e índice de alternância de produção por planta) e as características de qualidade dos frutos, da safra 2017-2018 (massa do fruto, da casca, da semente e da polpa, comprimento, diâmetro ventral e transversal, índice de cor de casca e polpa, teor de sólidos solúveis, acidez titulável, vitamina C e teor de carotenoides totais da polpa). Abstract The ‘Ubá’ mango tree is found in all the cities of the Zona da Mata and its fruits are destined for both in natura consumption and for processing. However, there is a great heterogeneity among plants in the orchards, which contributes to low productivity. This study aimed to evaluate and select superior accessions of ‘Ubá’ mango trees collected in Ubá, Visconde do Rio Branco, and Viçosa, based on agronomic characteristics, aiming to produce high-quality fruits. The experiment was installed in Visconde do Rio Branco, MG. We evaluated 195 ‘Ubá’ mango tree accessions, in a completely randomized design, with four replications, of one tree each. ABSTRACT. Curves of crop growth and nutrient extraction and export are essential to develop fertilization strategies and management plans to maximize yield and reduce environmental impacts. Our study aimed to evaluate dry matter production and both extraction and export of macronutrients by arrowroots (Maranta arundinacea L.) to be used in further crop fertilization plans. To this purpose, two experiments were carried out in field conditions using the varieties Viçosa and Seta. The experimental design was randomized with four replications and nine periods of analysis, which were defined as days after planting (105, 135, 165, 195, 225, 255, 285, 315, and 345 DAP). Dry matter, extraction, and export of macronutrients by arrowroot seed-rhizomes, aerial parts, roots, and storage roots (rhizomes) were determined. The exports of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, and S of storage rhizomes of the variety Viçosa were 104.6, 51.83, 412.24, 15.85, 36.14, and 64.36 kg ha-1, while those of the seta variety were 160.6, 71.62, 521.31, 17.57, 60.09, and 160.41 kg ha-1, respectively. Both varieties proved to be efficient soil macronutrient extractors, mainly for K. ABSTRACT The collapse of the Fundão dam in Brazil caused one of the biggest environmental disasters. One of the challenges was how to manage the tailings so that affected areas could be reused. This study aimed to verify whether applying different irrigation depths to Xaraés grass grown with iron mining tailings would affect grass shoot and root dry masses. The experiment was set up in a randomized design with five irrigation depths (40%, 60%, 80%, 100%, and 120% of crop evapotranspiration) and two additional treatments (grass grown in tailings with soil conditioner, and grass grown in natural soil), each with three repetitions. The grass was cut four times, and the shoot dry mass was evaluated after each cut, while the root dry mass was evaluated at the end of the experiment. Our results showed that irrigation depths had a positive linear effect on shoot dry mass and an exponentially increasing effect on root dry mass, with the highest averages in the treatment applying 120% of crop evapotranspiration. RESUMO: Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar as qualidades física e fisiológica, bem como a produtividade das sementes de milho, variedade UFVM 100 Nativo, produzidas em lavouras adubadas com diferentes níveis de resíduo avícola, em cobertura. O experimento foi instalado no delineamento em blocos casualizados, com seis tratamentos e quatro repetições, totalizando 24 parcelas. Os tratamentos consistiram da aplicação de 0,0; 1,5; 3,0; 4,5; 6,0 e 7,5 t/ha de resíduo avícola curtido. As sementes foram submetidas às seguintes avaliações: Teste de uniformidade, peso de mil sementes, germinação, vigor (primeira contagem de germinação, envelhecimento acelerado, teste de frio sem solo, porcentagem e velocidade de emergência em areia) e produtividade. Para avaliar o efeito das diferentes dosagens de resíduo avícola sobre as variáveis consideradas foram utilizados modelos de regressão linear. A qualidade das sementes não foi influenciada pelo efeito dos diferentes níveis de adubação. Dentre as dosagens utilizadas, recomenda-se a de 7,5 t/ha por proporcionar maior aumento da produtividade, o que poderá resultar em maior retorno financeiro ao produtor.

ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the physical and physiological qualities and productivity of corn seeds, a variety UFVM 100 Native, produced in plots fertilized in top dressing with different levels of poultry waste. The experiment was organized in a randomized block design, with six treatments and four repetitions, totaling 24 plots. The treatments consisted of the application of 0.0, 1.5, 3.0, 4.5, 6.0, and 7.5 t/ha of tanned poultry waste. The seeds were subjected to the following evaluations: uniformity test, thousand seed weight, germination, vigor (first germination count, accelerated aging, soilless cold test, percentage, and emergence rate in sand), and productivity. Linear regression models were used to evaluate the effects of different dosages of poultry waste on the variables considered. The quality of seeds was not influenced by the effects of different levels of fertilization. Among the dosages used, 7.5 t/ha is recommended because it provides a greater increase in productivity, which may result in a greater financial return to the producer.

ABSTRACT Iron mining tailings have limitations for plant growth and development due to low fertility, coupled with great restriction of physical characteristics such as low water retention, high density, and lack of structure. This study aimed to evaluate whether different irrigation depths applied to Xaraés grass grown in mining tailings influence its yield and bromatological aspects. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design with five irrigation depths (40, 60, 80, 100, and 120% of the crop evapotranspiration), two additional treatments consisting of grass grown in tailings with soil conditioner and in natural soil, and three repetitions. Forage dry mass, plant height, leaf: stem ratio, as well as neutral detergent fibre, acid detergent fibre, crude protein, and mineral matter content, were evaluated during four cutting cycles. Xaraés grass could establish and produce forage despite cultivation limitations in iron mining tailings, which are due to their properties. Irrigation depths showed positive and linear effects on Xaraés grass dry matter yield and heights of plants grown in iron mining tailings. The soil conditioner has potential for use in pasture cultivation in iron mining tailing.
