Resumo: Este trabalho teve como objetivo comparar a qualidade fisiológica de sementes de cultivares de soja produzidas com ou sem déficit hídrico. Amostras de sementes de três cultivares de soja produzidas na safra 2019/2020 foram coletadas em propriedade rural e em empresa obtentora das cultivares. Na propriedade rural, as sementes foram produzidas sob estresse hídrico e altas temperaturas durante a safra e caracterizaram-se pela presença de sementes esverdeadas. Na empresa obtentora das cultivares, a amostra foi constituída por um lote de sementes certificadas produzidas em condições normais de chuva e temperatura, sem sementes esverdeadas. Germinação, tempo médio de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação, velocidade média de germinação, número de plântulas normais e anormais, a altura e peso seco da plântula, o comprimento da raiz, área superficial, volume, diâmetro médio e massa seca, a massa seca de plântulas foram avaliados. Sementes de soja produzidas sob estresse hídrico apresentaram redução na qualidade fisiológica diretamente proporcional à porcentagem de sementes esverdeadas presentes em cada lote de sementes. A ocorrência de estresse hídrico na soja nas fases reprodutiva e maturação impacta negativamente a instalação da cultura da soja na safra subsequente devido à baixa qualidade fisiológica da semente.

Abstract: This study aimed to compare the physiological seed quality of soybean cultivars produced under or without water deficit stress. Seed samples of three soybean cultivars produced in the 2019/2020 crop season were collected in a rural property and in a company that obtains the cultivars. In the rural property, the seeds were produced under water deficit stress and high temperatures during the crop’s and were characterized by the presence of greenish seeds. In the company that obtains the cultivars, the sample consisted of a certified seed lot produced under normal rainfall and temperature conditions, without greenish seeds. Germination, average germination time, germination speed index, average germination speed, the number of normal and abnormal seedlings, the seedling height and dry weight, the root evaluations (length, surface area, volume, average diameter and dry mass) and the total seedling dry mass were also evaluated. Soybean seeds produced under water deficit stress showed a reduction in physiological quality directly proportional to the percentage of greenish seeds present in each seed lot. The occurrence of water deficit stress on the soybean in the reproductive and maturation stages negatively impacts the soybean crop installation in the subsequent season due to the low physiological seed quality.

Abstract Currently, food security depends on the increased production of cereals such as wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), which is an important source of calories and protein for humans. However, cells of the crop have suffered from the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which can cause severe oxidative damage to the plants, due to environmental stresses. ROS are toxic molecules found in various subcellular compartments. The equilibrium between the production and detoxification of ROS is sustained by enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidants. In the present review, we offer a brief summary of antioxidant defense and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) signaling in wheat plants. Wheat plants increase antioxidant defense mechanisms under abiotic stresses, such as drought, cold, heat, salinity and UV-B radiation, to alleviate oxidative damage. Moreover, H2O2 signaling is an important factor contributing to stress tolerance in cereals.

Seleção de parentais é uma etapa importante no melhoramento e a variabilidade genética aumenta as chances de obtenção de variância nas progênies. Os objetivos deste estudo foram fenotipar 29 genótipos de trigo e determinar a variabilidade genética entre eles, visando identificar potenciais parentais para uso nos programas de melhoramento da Embrapa Trigo. Para a fenotipagem, caracteres estatura de planta, ciclo e características dos grãos foram avaliados e os dados analisados pela distância Euclidiana. A distância genética foi estimada utilizando 97 marcadores moleculares microsatélites e os dados analisados pelo coeficiente Nei72. A distância média observada pela fenotipagem foi 10.1 e a distância genética 31%. Os marcadores SSR foram eficientes na seleção de genótipos geneticamente diversos apesar da similaridade fenotípica a as linhagens PF 9027, PF 950351, PF 030132, PF 979002, PF 040488 e IWT 04019 podem ser utilizadas como parentais em cruzamentos induzidos considerando variabilidade genética associada a caracteres agronômicos adequados.

Parental selection is an important step in breeding programs, and genetic variability increases the chances of obtaining variance in progenies. The objectives of this study were to phenotype 29 wheat genotypes and determine the genetic variability among them, in order to identify potential parental lines for breeding programs at Embrapa Wheat. For phenotyping, traits such as plant height, cycle and grains characteristics were assessed and the data were analyzed by the Euclidean distance. The genetic distance was estimated using 97 microsatellite molecular markers and the data were analyzed by Nei72 coefficient. The average distance observed for phenotyping was 10.1, and the genetic distance was 31 %. SSR markers were efficient for selecting genetically diverse genotypes despite their phenotypic similarity, and lines PF 9027, PF 950351, PF 030132, PF 979002, PF 040488 and IWT 04019 can be used as parental for future crosses, since they have genetic diversity and suitable agronomic traits.

Translocações são rearranjos cromossômicos estruturais que envolvem segmentos cromossômicos de extensão variada pertencentes a cromossomos homólogos ou não homólogos. Tanto a ocorrência natural quanto a induzida de translocações tem possibilitado um avanço no melhoramento varietal, uma vez que esses segmentos translocados podem carregar genes de resistência a estresses bióticos e abióticos. O centeio é uma espécie da famíla Triticeae muito utilizada para transferência de genes para o trigo como, por exemplo, genes de resistência às ferrugens da folha e do colmo e também genes que favorecem o rendimento, tanto em quantidade como em qualidade de grãos. Assim, o objetivo deste artigo foi o de revisar as principais translocações envolvendo o trigo e o centeio, no qual se verificou, a partir dos dados analisados, que as translocações envolvendo os cromossomos 1 e 2 mostraram-se mais vantajosas para o rendimento de grãos em trigo e que as demais foram importantes, principalmente, na transferência de genes de resistência a estresses. Portanto, essa estratégia tem demonstrado efetividade na busca de novos genes que favorecem o cultivo de trigo e sua utilização vem crescendo grandemente nos últimos anos.

Translocations are structural chromosomal rearrangements which involve segments with different length belonging to homologous or non homologous chromosomes. Either natural or induced occurrence of translocations have been enabled an improvement in the plant breeding, when these translocated segments carry resistance genes to biotic and abiotic stress. Rye is a grass largely used to transfer genes to wheat such as resistance genes to leaf rust, stem rust and genes that support the wheat yield, either in grain quantity or in quality. Thus, the aim of this paper was to review the main translocations involving wheat and rye, which demonstrated, from the data analyzed, that translocations involving chromosomes 1 and 2 were more advantageous for grain yield in wheat and that the others were important, especially, in the transfer of resistance genes. Therefore, this strategy has demonstrated effectiveness on search for new genes that favor the cultivation of wheat and its use has grown greatly in recent years.
