ABSTRACT: The development of a selection strategy and to obtain a precocious white oat progenies, homogeneous for flowering and with additions to panicle grain mass, reconciled to environmental stimuli controlled by air temperature. The experiment was conducted in the municipality of Augusto Pestana, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The experimental design was in augmented blocks with intermediate control, the regular treatments corresponded to 238 white oat progenies and the common treatment was represented by the commercial control (URS Taura) arranged in three replications. The selection for grains weight per panicle, percentage of flowered plants, days to physiological maturity and accumulation of degrees day are due to a high genetic contribution, which indicated promising selection for these characters already in initial breeding generations. The accumulation of degrees days for physiological maturity defines that 41.94% of the progenies are selected as precocious. The genotype ideotype distance index (MGIDI) selected 20% of the white oat progenies with greater flowering uniformity, less accumulation of degrees days and high potential for grain mass per panicle. RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi desenvolver uma estratégia de seleção e obter progênies de aveia branca precoces, homogêneas para o florescimento e com acréscimos a massa de grãos da panícula, conciliados aos estímulos ambientais controlados pela temperatura do ar. O experimento foi conduzido no município de Augusto Pestana, no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. ABSTRACT The prediction of traits allows the breeder to guide strategies to select and accelerate the progress of genetic improvement. The objective of this work was to determine the best prediction approach and establish a network with better predictive power for white oat using methodologies based on artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Seventy-eight white oat genotypes were evaluated. The design was randomized blocks with three replications. The models were evaluated with and without fungicide, and prediction models were established using four sets of experiments. The grain yield was used as a response trait the others as explanatory traits. The coefficient of determination was considered to evaluate the proposed methodologies. The importance of the traits was assessed through the impact of destructuring or disturbing the information of a given input on the estimation of R2. For machine learning, decision trees, bagging, random forest, and boosting were used. The traits indicated to assist in decision-making are plant height, leaf rust severity, and lodging percentage. Abstract Strategies for evaluating oat leaf diseases and using cultivars for pesticide-free growing enable more sustainable managements with food safety. The objectives of this study were to determine the optimal timing for assessing genetic variability of resistance to leaf diseases among Brazilian oat cultivars through analysis of necrotic leaf area; and identify the most suitable cultivars for agroecologically-based production systems through analysis of grain yield and necrotic leaf area using adaptability and stability parameters. The experiment was carried out in Augusto Pestana, RS, Brazil, using a randomized block design with three replications for evaluating 22 Brazilian oat cultivars (recommended and no longer recommended for cultivation) grown under no fungicide applications, from 2015 to 2020. Necrotic leaf area was measured at 60, 75, 90, 105, and 120 days after plant emergence (DAE), using the WinDIAS software (Copyright 2012, Delta-T Devices Limited); grain yield was determined after harvesting grains with approximately 15% moisture. ABSTRACT The production and consumption of pecan nuts have been on the rise in recent times, which renders it necessary to study the best production practices to increase the yield, enhance the flavor, and maintain the bioactive components in the final product. The present study, therefore, aimed to verify the effects of tree thinning on the physicochemical characteristics and bioactive components in pecan under the cultivation conditions of Santa Rosa, Rio Grande do Sul. The pecan plants were submitted to two types of management - with thinning and without thinning, following which the fruits were evaluated for physical (size, weight, and color) and chemical (physicochemical composition, oxidative stability, fatty acid profile, and tocopherols) attributes. RESUMO A produção e consumo de nozes vem aumentando nos últimos tempos, e com isso, há de se estudar as melhores práticas de produção, que aumentem a quantidade produzida e favoreçam ou mantenham os compostos bioativos presentes. Nesse sentido, esse trabalho teve como objetivo verificar a interferência do desbaste de plantas nas características físico-químicas e compostos bioativos da noz-pecã nas condições de Santa Rosa, Rio Grande do Sul. Para isso, as plantas foram submetidas a dois tipos de manejo: com desbaste e sem desbaste de plantas e os frutos foram avaliados quanto a características físicas (tamanho, peso e cor) e químicas (composição físico-química, estabilidade oxidativa, perfil de ácidos graxos e tocoferóis). Abstract Meteorological conditions affect the dynamics of nitrogen (N) by oat crops. Fuzzy logic allows the development of simulation models involving N management and the non-linearity of meteorological conditions. The objective of this study was to identify the most sustainable N management for oat crops considering N rates applied at sowing and as top-dressing with different timing. Potential variables were selected for the development of a rule base for fuzzy modeling and simulate grain yield for N managements considering the non-linearity of meteorological conditions. The experiment was carried out in Augusto Pestana, RS, Brazil, from 2015 to 2017. A randomized block design with four replications was used, in a 4×3 factorial arrangement, consisted of four N rates applied at sowing (0, 10, 30 and 60 kg/ha), using total N top-dressing rates of 70 kg/ha for the soybean-oat and 100 kg/ha for the maize-oat, applied at three timings (10, 30, and 60 days after emergence). The most sustainable N managements for oat crops were under absence of N and application 10 kg/ha of N at sowing, with the remainder applied as top-dressing at 10 and 30 days after emergence. ABSTRACT: This study carried out early selection of soybean progenies that are productive and resilient to environmental conditions. The experiment took place at the Genetic Breeding Program of UNIJUI (University of the Northwest of the State of Rio Grande do Sul), located in Ijuí - RS, Brazil. The regular treatments correspond to 24 soybean F2 populations and the common treatments were 18 commercial checks, arranged in four replications. At full physiological maturity, in each experimental unit, five plants were randomly collected to obtain seed weight per plant (SWP, g). The Jinks and Pooni methodology was used to calculate the probability of extracting superior lineages from the evaluated populations. O experimento foi realizado no Programa de Melhoramento Genético da Universidade do Noroeste do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul (UNIJUI), localizado em Ijuí, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Foi utilizado o delineamento incompleto de blocos aumentados com testemunhas intercalares. Os tratamentos regulares correspondem a 24 populações de soja F2 e os tratamentos comuns foram 18 testemunhas comerciais, arranjadas em quatro repetições. Em plena maturidade fisiológica, em cada unidade experimental, cinco plantas foram coletadas aleatoriamente para obtenção do peso de sementes por plantas. ABSTRACT. Selection practices are maximized when plant breeders have the availability of consolidated parameters, which will guide direct and indirect selection methods. This study aimed to apply a biometric alternative to minimize residual variance and maximize selection parameters by parent-progeny regression, interim controls, and mixed linear models intrinsic to breeding. The obtained data were subjected to the assumptions of the statistical model, which identified the normality and homogeneity of the residual variances and model additivity. Subsequently, two analysis scenarios were created. The first preserved all information obtained in the experiment, both from segregating families and pure-line cultivars, and was called original scenario. The other scenario preserved progeny data, but the residual variability of controls was restricted using as criterion observations contained between the interval of the first sample standard deviation. Thereby, an acceptable residue limit could be obtained. Both scenarios were submitted to three consolidated frequentist methods (genitor-progeny regression; sum of squares of augmented block design with interim controls; and mixed linear models, wherein random genetic effects are taken as weighted genetic parameters by the genealogical matrix). Restricting residual variation in parents or controls can maximize genetic parameters and genetic gains in soybean breeding. Significant heritability estimate gains were obtained in the augmented blocks with interim control approach. Mixed linear models with random genetic effects can be considered a great tool to obtain genetic parameters in experiments with a high magnitude of common and regular treatments.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi selecionar genótipos de aveia-branca (Avena sativa) para ambientes com e sem aplicação de fungicidas, bem como identificar relações entre variáveis meteorológicas e características agronômicas. Dois experimentos foram conduzidos: um sem e outro com o uso do fungicida tebuconazole. Em cada experimento, foram avaliados 26 genótipos, conduzidos durante dez anos na mesma área experimental; os anos de cultivo foram considerados como um ambiente. As metodologias de genótipos e da interação genótipos x ambientes foram utilizadas para definir o genótipo ideal. 'URS Corona' é considerado um genótipo ideal devida às suas ótimas respostas em ambiente com uso de tebuconazole. Já os genótipos 'Brisasul', 'IPR Afrodite' e 'URS Taura' respondem melhor em ambiente sem o fungicida. Contudo, com base em multicaracterísticas, os genótipos 'URS Taura' e 'IPR Afrodite' podem ser posicionados em ambientes com ou sem o uso de tebuconazole. Abstract The objective of this work was to select white oat (Avena sativa) genotypes for environments with and without fungicide application, as well as to identify relationships between meteorological variables and agronomic traits. Two experiments were carried out: one without and the other with the use of the tebuconazole fungicide. In each experiment, 26 genotypes were evaluated, conducted during ten years in the same experimental area; cultivation years were considered as one environment. The methodologies of genotype and of the genotypes x environments interaction were used to define the ideal genotype. 'URS Corona' is considered an ideal genotype due to its excellent responses in the environment with tebuconazole. The 'Brisasul', 'IPR Aphrodite', and 'URS Taura' genotypes respond better in the environment without the fungicide. However, based on multitraits, the 'URS Taura' and 'IPR Afrodite' genotypes can be positioned in environments with or without the use of tebuconazole. Genotypes with a rust incidence lower than 15% and a height higher than 93 cm in an environment with a relative humidity lower than 70.75% have a higher grain yield regardless of fungicide use. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar as correlações genéticas e as associações diretas e indiretas de caracteres agronômicos e atributos de qualidade de grãos com a percentagem de grãos inteiros em arroz irrigado por inundação. O experimento foi conduzido em dois ambientes, em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com três repetições, tendo-se utilizado 23 genótipos de arroz irrigado. Os caracteres avaliados foram: percentagem de grãos inteiros, comprimento da cariopse, largura da cariopse, comprimento da panícula, peso da panícula, peso de mil grãos, dias para floração, percentagem de grãos com “barriga branca” e grãos gessados, área gessada total, brancura total, brancura vítrea e defeitos de coloração. Abstract The objective of this work was to determine the genetic correlations and the direct and indirect associations of agronomic traits and grain quality attributes with the percentage of whole grains in flood irrigated rice. The experiment was carried out in two environments, in a randomized complete block design with three replicates, using 23 irrigated rice genotypes. The evaluated traits were: percentage of whole grains, caryopsis length, caryopsis width, panicle length, panicle weight, 1,000 grain weight, days to flowering, percentage of chalky grains with white belly, total chalky area, total whiteness, vitreous whiteness, and defects in coloring. The percentage of grains with white belly and total chalky area were positively correlated, whereas the percentage of grains with white belly and vitreous whiteness were negatively correlated. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi selecionar genótipos de trigo com vista ao aumento de aminoácidos essenciais nos seus grãos. O estudo foi realizado no ano agrícola de 2019, em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, organizados em arranjo fatorial 5x5 – cinco ambientes no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil (Cachoeira do Sul, Cruz Alta, Santo Augusto, São Gabriel e Vacaria), e cinco genótipos de trigo ('BRS Parrudo', 'Marfim', 'Quartzo', 'TBIO Mestre' e 'TBIO Sinuelo') –, com duas repetições. Os metabólitos polares foram extraídos da farinha dos grãos de trigo moídos, derivatizados e avaliados por cromatografia gasosa-espectrometria de massa. Abstract The objective of this work was to select wheat genotypes aiming to increase the essential amino acids in their grains. The study was carried out in the 2019 crop year, in a randomized complete block design, organized in a 5x5 factorial arrangement – five environments in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil (Cachoeira do Sul, Cruz Alta, Santo Augusto, São Gabriel, and Vacaria), and five wheat genotypes ('BRS Parrudo', 'Marfim', 'Quartzo', 'TBIO Mestre', and 'TBIO Sinuelo') –, with two replicates. Polar metabolites were extracted from the flour of the ground wheat grains, derivatized, and evaluated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Both variance components and genetic parameters were estimated for the metabolites. To select the genotypes for the traits of interest, the multi-trait index based on factor analysis and ideotype design, the multi-trait genotype-ideotype distance index, and the multi-trait stability index were applied. The wheat genotypes express a high genetic variability and selection possibility for gentiobiose, butyric acid, galactopyranosyl, phenylalanine, tryptophan, leucine, and isoleucine. The 'Marfim' genotype remains stable for essential amino acid levels in the studied environments. Foram utilizados dados de produtividade de grãos (GY, kg ha-1) de experimentos com seis genótipos de soja avaliados em seis ambientes no Brasil e um ambiente no Paraguai. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi blocos casualizados, organizados em esquema fatorial incompleto, com seis ambientes no Brasil (Toledo - PR, Palotina - PR, Mangueirinha - PR, Três Passos - RS, Passo Fundo - RS, Major Vieira - SC) e um no Paraguai (Bela Vista do Norte - PY) com seis genótipos de soja (BRS 284, BRS 391, BRS 511, BRS 523, BRS 525, BRS 535) dispostos em quatro repetições por ambiente. ABSTRACT: This research determined the adaptability and stability of soybean yield for organic systems in different environments. Grain yield data (GY, kg ha-1) from experiments with six soybean genotypes evaluated in six environments in Brazil and one environment in Paraguay were used. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, organized in an incomplete factorial scheme, with six environments in Brazil (Toledo- PR, Palotina- PR, Mangueirinha- PR, Três Passos- RS, Passo Fundo- RS, Major Vieira- SC) and one in Paraguay (Bela Vista do Norte- PY) with six soybean genotypes (BRS 284, BRS 391, BRS 511, BRS 523, BRS 525, BRS 535) arranged in four replications per environment. BRS 511 genotype was characterized by high average grain yield and stability by the AMMI method. BRS 284 genotype was identified as the ideal genotype in the GGE biplot method. RESUMEN El objetivo de este trabajo es resaltar el comportamiento de cultivares de yuca sometidos a diferentes densidades y bioestimulantes al momento de la siembra, y seleccionar cultivares superiores a través de atributos nutricionales y productivos basado en el enfoque multivariado. Se utilizó un diseño experimental de bloques al azar de tres factores y tres repeticiones: tres cultivares de yuca (FEPAGRO-RS 13 Vassourinha, BRS CS01, Iapar - 19 Pioneira), dos densidades de plantación (10 y 20 yemas por metro lineal) y bioestimulate (con y sin), en total 36 unidades experimentales. El cultivar BRS CS01 presentó el mayor rendimiento y concentración de material mineral; el genotipo FEPAGRO - RS 13 Vassourinha presentó el mayor contenido de lípidos y ‘Iapar 19 - Pioneira’ presentó las mayores concentraciones de proteína. El contenido de almidón fue evaluado por la prueba de comparación de medias e índice MGIDI. El cultivar FEPAGRO - RS 13 Vassourinha mostró superioridad, además de ser considerado por el índice ideal por el multi-variado. La densidad 10 y bioestimulador se caracterizó como favorable para la productividad y lípidos, mientras que la densidad 10 y sin bioestimulador favorable para almidón, lípidos, proteína y productividad. La densidad 20 con bioestimulador fue favorable para lípidos.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to highlight the behavior of cassava cultivars when subjected to different densities and biostimulants at planting and to select superior cultivars based on nutritional and productive attributes using the multivariate approach. The experiment design used randomized blocks in a three-factor scheme, with three cassava cultivars (FEPAGRO-RS 13 Vassourinha, BRS CS01, Iapar - 19 Pioneira) × two planting densities (10 and 20 buds per linear meter) × two biostimulator forms (with and without) in three replications, totaling 36 experiment units. Cultivar BRS CS01 had the highest yield and concentration of mineral material, genotype FEPAGRO - RS 13 Vassourinha had the highest lipid content, and Iapar 19 - Pioneira had the highest protein concentrations. The starch content was tested with a comparison of means and MGIDI index. Cultivar FEPAGRO - RS 13 Vassourinha had the highest content and, according to the index, was the ideal cultivar based on multi-characteristics. Density 10 with the biostimulator was favorable for productivity and lipids, whereas density 10 without the biostimulator was favorable for starch, lipids, proteins and productivity. Density 20 with the biostimulator was favorable for lipids.
