RESUMO Um grave problema nas regiões de cultivo de milho verde é a baixa disponibilidade de fósforo (P), principalmente no bioma Cerrado. Objetivou-se avaliar o desempenho de híbridos duplos experimentais de milho para consumo in natura sob baixa e alta disponibilidade de P Utilizou-se delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial (2 × 21), sendo duas disponibilidades de fósforo (37,5 e 75 mg dm−3 de P2O5) e 21 híbridos de milho, com nove repetições. As características avaliadas foram altura da inserção da espiga, altura de planta, florescimento masculino e feminino, comprimento e diâmetro de espigas, massa de grãos, peso de espigas empalhadas e despalhadas. Os híbridos duplo s experimentais DH94 e DH102, para baixa disponibilidade de P, e os híbridos DH71 e DH81, para alta, possuem a melhor qualidade e produtividade para o mercado de milho, visando ao consumo in natura. O híbrido DH81 possui desempenho mais adequado ao mercado consumidor, independentemente da disponibilidade de P, e, dessa forma, apresenta versatilidade e aptidão para esse mercado e para diferentes níveis tecnológicos.

ABSTRACT A serious problem in fresh corn growing regions is the low availability of phosphorus (P), especially in the Cerrado (Brazilian Savanna) biome. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of experimental double hybrids of fresh corn intended to in natura consumption grown under low and high P availability. A randomized blocks experimental design was used, in a 2 × 21 factorial arrangement, consisting of two P availabilities (37.5 and 75 mg dm−3 of P2O5) and 21 corn hybrids, with 9 replications. The following variables were evaluated: ear insertion height, plant height, male and female flowering, ear length and diameter, grain weight, husked and unhusked ear weight. The best quality and yield for the corn market focused on in natura consumption were observed for the experimental double hybrids DH94 and DH102 under low P availability and for DH71 and DH81 under high P availability. The DH81 hybrid performs better for the consumer market, regardless of the P availability, and, therefore, has versatility and aptitude for this market and for different technological levels.

RESUMO: O deficiente desenvolvimento de sementes férteis de espécies florestais nativas no Brasil limita a propagação dessas plantas em diversas condições. Entre os fatores bióticos limitantes da qualidade e quantidade das sementes florestais, destacam-se os insetos broqueadores, antes e depois da sua dispersão. Este estudo relata pela primeira vez um hospedeiro do besouro buprestídeo Lius conicus (Gory & Laporte, 1840). O desenvolvimento larval de L. conicus ocorre em cápsulas com sementes de Vochysia haenkeana Mart. (Vochysiaceae), uma típica árvore do bioma cerrado brasileiro. Em duas regiões do cerrado, no Estado de Goiás, no Brasil, frutos quase maduros de V. haenkeana foram coletados diretamente das plantas. Após secagem natural e beneficiamento de frutos e sementes em laboratório, os danos causados pelas larvas de L. conicus foram quantificados e qualificados. Frutos maiores foram os preferidas como hospedeiros desse inseto. Os frutos produzidos pela planta, voltados para ponto o cardeal leste, foram os mais infestados por L. conicus. Lotes de sementes provenientes de frutos maiores apresentaram infestação por L. conicus de até 37,5%. Observou-se que houve apenas uma larva desse inseto por fruto, que danificou todas as sementes da cápsula (três ou quatro) e consumiu geralmente cerca de 26% da massa seca da semente.

ABSTRACT: The deficient development of fertile seeds of native forest plant species in Brazil limits the reproduction of these plants in various conditions. Among the limiting biotic factors in quality and quantity of the forest seeds, borer insects are quite prominent, before and after their dispersion. This study reports for the first time a host of the buprestid beetle Lius conicus (Gory & Laporte, 1840). The larval development of L. conicus takes place in the seed capsules of Vochysia haenkeana Mart. (Vochysiaceae), a typical tree species in the Brazilian cerrado biome. In two regions of the cerrado in Goiás State, Brazil, almost ripe fruits of V. haenkeana were collected directly from the plants. After natural drying, and fruit and seed processing in laboratory, damage caused by the L. conicus larvae was quantified and qualified. Bigger fruits were preferred as hosts. Fruits developing on the eastern side of the plant were most frequently occupied by L. conicus. Seed lots of bigger fruits showed damage up to 37.5% from the infestation by L. conicus larvae. There was only one larva per fruit, which damaged all the seeds of the capsule (three or four) and generally consumed around 26% of the seed dry mass.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar isolados de Trichoderma harzianum para o controle biológico do mofo-branco em feijão (Phaseolus vulgaris). Cinco isolados foram avaliados para o biocontrole do mofo-branco em feijão 'Pérola', em condições de campo, nos anos agrícolas 2009 e 2010. Um isolado comercial (1306) e um tratamento testemunha foram incluídos. Aplicações foliares a 2x109 conídios mL-1 foram realizadas aos 42 e 52 dias após a semeadura (DAS), em 2009, e aos 52 DAS em 2010. Os isolados CEN287, CEN316 e 1306 reduziram o número de apotécios por metro quadrado de Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, em comparação à testemunha, nos dois anos agrícolas. CEN287, CEN316 e 1306 reduziram a severidade do mofo-branco no período experimental, quando comparados à testemunha.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate Trichoderma harzianum isolates for biological control of white mold in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris). Five isolates were evaluated for biocontrol of white mold in 'Perola' common bean under field conditions, in the 2009 and 2010 crop seasons. A commercial isolate (1306) and a control treatment were included. Foliar applications at 2x109 conidia mL-1 were performed at 42 and 52 days after sowing (DAS), in 2009, and at 52 DAS in 2010. The CEN287, CEN316, and 1306 isolates decreased the number of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum apothecia per square meter in comparison to the control, in both crop seasons. CEN287, CEN316, and 1306 decreased white mold severity during the experimental period, when compared to the control.

RESUMO O mofo branco tem sido responsável por danos expressivos à cultura do feijoeiro. Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito de regimes de luz na produção de conídios de Trichoderma harzianum e na efetividade destes em inibir a germinação miceliogênica de escleródios de Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, bem como de isolados de T. harzianum na supressão de lesões causadas por S. sclerotiorum sobre folíolos de feijoeiro. O isolado CEN287 inibiu a germinação miceliogênica de 80 % dos escleródios avaliados. Tal efetividade não se alterou quanto ao regime de luz empregado para a obtenção dos conídios de T. harzianum. Os isolados CEN287, CEN288 e CEN316 proporcionaram os menores valores médios de lesão foliar aos 10 dias após a inoculação, sendo de 4,25 mm2; 2,97 mm2; e 2,98 mm2, respectivamente. Em relação à testemunha, tais valores foram significativamente inferiores (72,90 mm2), o que impediu a rápida deterioração do tecido vegetal.

ABSTRACT White mold has been responsible for expressive damages to the common bean crop. This study aimed at evaluating the effect of light regimes used for producing Trichoderma harzianum conidia and the effectiveness of these to inhibit the myceliogenic germination of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum sclerotia, as well as the effect of T. harzianum isolates in the suppression of lesions caused by S. sclerotiorum on common bean leaflets. The CEN287 isolate inhibited the myceliogenic germination in 80 % of the sclerotia evaluated. Such effectiveness was indifferent, regarding the light system used to obtain the T. harzianum conidia. The CEN287, CEN288 and CEN316 isolates showed the lowest average values of leaf lesion at 10 days after inoculation, being respectively 4.25 mm2, 2.97 mm2 and 2.98 mm2. Concerning the control, these values were significantly lower (72.90 mm2), what prevented the early deterioration of plant tissue.

RESUMO A competitividade do setor florestal brasileiro, fruto das condições climáticas e tecnologia empregada, faz que o país ocupe posição de destaque no cenário mundial. Apesar do elevado crescimento brasileiro no setor florestal, é necessário o desenvolvimento de pesquisas que proporcionem aumento de produtividade. Este estudo objetivou avaliar o efeito fisiológico da aplicação de diferentes concentrações de giberelina (GA3) no acúmulo de biomassa do híbrido de Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla "E. urograndis GG 100" e, também, verificar o efeito da aplicação de hormônio sobre a incidência de Rhizoctonia sp. e sobre efeito antixenose (não preferência) ao corte de folhas pela formiga-cortadeira Atta sexdens rubropilosa. O experimento foi conduzido em bancada a pleno sol, seguindo o delineamento inteiramente casualizado com cinco tratamentos e seis repetições. Mudas clonadas de E. urograndis GG 100, com 120 dias de idade, cultivadas sob bancada a pleno sol em vasos de 12 L, com substrato à base de subsolo, areia e esterco foram tratados com 50 mL de GA3, nas seguintes concentrações: 0; 50; 100; 150; e 200 mg L-1. Aos 40 dias após a imposição dos tratamentos, as análises foram realizadas. A aplicação de giberelina intensificou o crescimento vegetativo das plantas de eucalipto e promoveu o maior acúmulo de biomassa no mesmo período de tempo de plantas não tratadas. As mudas tratadas com giberelina apresentaram vigoroso crescimento vegetativo, principalmente na concentração de 150 mg L-1. Adicionalmente, as mesmas plantas exibiram maior preferência por formigas-cortadeiras e menor área foliar lesionada pelo fungo Rhizoctonia sp.

ABSTRACT The competitiveness of the forest sector in Brazil, as a result of climate conditions and technology used, makes the country occupy a prominent position on the world. Despite the high Brazilian growth in the forest sector, the development of research that provide increased productivity is necessary. This study aimed to evaluate the physiological effect of the application of gibberellic acid (GA3) in the accumulation of biomass of Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla "E. urograndis GG 100" hybrid and also to verify the effect of this hormone application on the incidence of Rhyzoctonia sp. besides the antixenosis effect (not preferred) on the leaves by leaf-cutting ant Atta sexdens rubropilosa. The experiment was conducted in a bench, full sun, following a completely randomized design with five treatments and six replications. Cloned E. urograndis GG 100 seedlings, 120 days old, grown under full sun bench in 12 liter pots with a substrate based on subsoil, sand and manure were treated with 50 ml of GA3 according to following concentrations: 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg L-1. Analyzes were performed 40 days after treatment imposition. The application of gibberellin intensified vegetative growth of Eucalyptus plants and promoted a greater accumulation of biomass than untreated plots in the same period of time. Seedlings treated with gibberellin showed vigorous vegetative growth, especially in the concentration of 150 mg L-1. In addition, the same plants exhibited higher preference to leaf-cutting ants and smaller leaf area damaged by fungus Rhizoctonia sp.

A Alternaria alternata já foi isolada a partir de folhas de batata, no Brasil, entretanto, não há relatos sobre a ocorrência deste fungo em tubérculos de batata. Este trabalho objetivou confirmar a ocorrência de A. alternata em lesões presentes em tubérculos de batata. Para tanto, as lesões dos tubérculos atacados foram examinadas em estereomicroscópio, para a confecção de lâminas microscópicas semipermanentes, mediante a remoção de micélio e estruturas fúngicas encontradas sobre o tecido vegetal infectado. Os conídios apresentaram dimensões de 19,7-45,4 x 8,5-18,6 µm (28,3 x 12,5 µm) e formato de pera invertida, com coloração marrom clara e 2-6 (4) septos transversais e 1-5 (2) longitudinais, e as dimensões dos bicos dos conídios foram de 2,6-11,9 µm (4,4 µm). Estas características discriminaram o fungo como A. alternata.

The Alternaria alternata has been already isolated from potato leaves, in Brazil, however, the occurrence of this fungus on potato tuber has never been reported. This study aimed at confirming the occurrence of A. Alternata in lesions present in potato tubers. Thus, lesions on the diseased tubers were examined in a stereomicroscope, in order to prepare semipermanent microscope slides by removing the mycelium and fungal structures found on the infected tuber tissue. The conidia presented the shape of an inverted pear, light brown, with dimensions of 19.7-45.4 x 8.5-18.6 µm (28.3 x 12.5 µm), and 2-6 (4) transversal and 1-5 (2) longitudinal septa, while the conidia beaks measures were 2.6-11.9 µm (4.4 µm). These features characterized the fungus as A. alternata.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar isolados de Trichoderma harzianum quanto ao biocontrole de patógenos veiculados por sementes de feijoeiro comum, à promoção do crescimento de plantas e à rizocompetência. Cinco isolados foram avaliados e comparados com um isolado comercial (Ecotrich), com Carboxin+Thiram, e com um controle negativo. Sementes de feijão da cultivar Jalo Precoce, contaminadas por Aspergillus, Cladosporium e Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, foram microbiolizadas com antagonistas e, em seguida, foram realizados testes de sanidade de sementes. Os isolados foram avaliados em substrato autoclavado e em condições de campo. Aos 10 dias após o semeio (DAS), mediu-se o comprimento das plantas. Para os testes de rizocompetência, os isolados foram pulverizados sobre caixas contendo areia lavada autoclavada, e a colonização das raízes foi avaliada aos 10 DAS, tendo-se utilizado cinco plantas por caixa. Os isolados mais efetivos nos testes de sanidade de sementes foram: CEN287 e CEN289 para controle de Aspergillus; o isolado comercial para Cladosporium; e CEN287 e CEN316 para S. sclerotiorum. Os isolados CEN289 e CEN290 promoveram o crescimento do feijoeiro em casa de vegetação e em campo. O tratamento de sementes com T. harzianum reduz a incidência de Aspergillus, Cladosporium e S. sclerotiorum em sementes do feijoeiro comum 'Jalo Precoce'.

The objective of this work was to evaluate isolates of Trichoderma harzianum regarding biocontrol of common bean seed-borne pathogens, plant growth promotion, and rhizosphere competence. Five isolates of T. harzianum were evaluated and compared with commercial isolate (Ecotrich), Carboxin+Thiram, and an absolute control. Bean seeds of the cultivar Jalo Precoce, contaminated with Aspergillus, Cladosporium, and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, were microbiolized with antagonists, and seed health tests were carried out. Isolates were evaluated on autoclaved substrate and in field conditions. Ten days after sowing (DAS), plant length was measured. To test rhizosphere competence, isolates were applied in boxes containing autoclaved washed sand, and root colonization was evaluated at 10 DAS, using five plants per box. The most effective isolates in the seed health tests were: CEN287 and CEN289 to control Aspergillus; the commercial isolate to control Cladosporium; and CEN287 and CEN316 to control S. sclerotiorum. Isolates CEN289 and CEN290 promoted bean growth in greenhouse and field. Seed treatment with T. harzianum reduces the incidence of Aspergillus, Cladosporium, and S. sclerotiorum in 'Jalo Precoce' common bean seeds.

Este estudo teve como objetivo caracterizar a variabilidade genética de acessos de maracujá comerciais no Distrito Federal por meio de marcadores RAPD. Análises genéticas foram feitas com amostras foliares de 30 acessos. As amostras de DNA foram amplificadas pela técnica de RAPD e os respectivos marcadores convertidos em uma matriz binária, a partir da qual as distâncias genéticas entre os acessos foram estimadas. Análises de agrupamento baseadas em distâncias genéticas permitiram detectar uma ampla gama de variabilidade genética entre os acessos de maracujazeiro-azedo, bem como para separá-los dos dois de maracujazeiro-doce. O posicionamento gráfico de 'BRS Ouro Vermelho' confirma a sua importante contribuição para aumentar a variabilidade genética das atuais variedades comerciais de maracujazeiro-azedo. A dispersão das distâncias genéticas entre os acessos comerciais de maracujazeiro-azedo suportam as evidências de diferentes origens genéticas para os materiais plantados no Distrito Federal. A variabilidade genética verificada evidencia o potencial de sucesso de futuros programas de melhoramento para essa região.

This study aimed to characterize the genetic variability in commercial accessions of passion fruit from the Federal District, Brazil, by RAPD markers. Genetic analyses were done with leaf samples of 30 accessions. DNA samples were amplified by RAPD technique, and respective markers converted into a binary matrix, from which the genetic distances between the accessions were estimated. Clustering analyis based on genetic distances allowed to detect a wide range of genetic variabillity among the accessions of sour passion fruit, and to separate them from the two sweet passion fruit. The graphical positioning of 'BRS Ouro Vermelho' confirms its potential to improve the genetic variability of commercial varieties of sour passion fruit. Dispersal of genetic distances among commercial accessions of sour passion fruit supports evidence for different genetic origins of the materials planted in the Federal District. The verified genetic variability indicates the potential success of future breeding programs for this region.

A partir de 40 amostras de solo, provenientes dos estados do Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Bahia, Goiás e Tocantins, uma coleção de 230 isolados monospóricos de Trichoderma spp. foi estabelecida, usando o meio seletivo TSM. Com o objetivo de selecionarem-se isolados com potencial para controle biológico de doenças, foram conduzidos testes de pareamento de culturas em meio BDA, a 20 ºC para Sclerotinia sclerotiorum e a 25 ºC para Fusarium solani f.sp. phaseoli. Antagonismo contra os dois patógenos foi observado em 10% dos isolados. Avaliações ao microscópio eletrônico de varredura de sete isolados selecionados in vitro mostraram que nem todos promoveram o hiperparasitismo dos patógenos, sugerindo a existência de outros mecanismos de antagonismo, como antibiose ou competição.

From 40 soil samples collected in the Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Bahia, Goiás and Tocantins states, Brazil, a collection of 230 monosporic isolates of Trichoderma spp. was established using TSM selective media. In order to select efficient isolates for biological control, dual culture tests were carried out on PDA media at 20 ºC for Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and at 25 ºC for Fusarium solani f.sp. phaseoli. From the whole collection, 50 isolates presented antagonism against F. solani and 111 isolates to S. sclerotiorum. The antagonism against both pathogens was found in only 10% of the isolates. Scanning electron microscopy assessments with seven in vitro selected isolates showed that not all promoted hyperparasitism on the pathogens, suggesting the existence of other mechanisms of antagonism, as antibiosis or competition.

A Talisia subalbens (Mart.) Radlk. (Sapindaceae) é uma espécie arbustiva apontada como endêmica do Mato Grosso. Objetivou-se neste estudo avaliar os efeitos da temperatura e condições de secagem sobre a germinação de sementes de T. subalbens. No primeiro experimento avaliou-se a germinação das sementes em diferentes regimes térmicos: 15ºC-25ºC e 25ºC-35ºC (alternadas), 25ºC e 35ºC (constante), e no segundo experimento, as sementes foram submetidas à diferentes condições de secagem: rápida (estufa à 35ºC) e lenta (temperatura ambiente à 28±2ºC). Os testes de germinação foram realizados em câmaras do tipo B.O.D., sob fotoperíodo de 12 horas, utilizando-se vermiculita como substrato. O delineamento foi o inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições de 25 sementes cada amostra. Os valores médios de porcentagem de germinação e índice de velocidade de emergência (IVE) foram comparados pelo teste de Tukey (5%). As sementes germinadas a 25ºC, 35ºC e 25ºC-35ºC apresentaram maiores porcentagens de germinação, não diferindo entre si, contudo, maior vigor foi observado à 35ºC, sendo esta considerada a temperatura ótima de germinação da espécie. Os menores valores de germinação e IVE ocorreram a 15ºC-25ºC. O grau de umidade inicial das sementes foi de 48%. A velocidade de secagem das sementes afeta negativamente a porcentagem de germinação, sendo o teor crítico de grau de umidade de 25%, e a secagem rápida mais favorável para a espécie.

Talisia subalbens (Mart.) Radlk. (Sapindaceae), a shrubby species, is considered endemic to Mato Grosso. The aim of this study was to evaluate the responses of its seeds to factors such as the optimum germination temperature and the effect of different drying conditions on the physiological quality of the seeds. In the first experiment, seed germination under different temperatures was evaluated: 15ºC-25ºC and 25ºC-35ºC (alternate), 25ºC and 35ºC (constant). In the second experiment, the seeds were submitted to different drying conditions: fast (oven at 35ºC) and slow (room temperature at 28±2ºC). The germination tests were performed in a B.O.D-type chamber, under a photoperiod of 12 hours, using vermiculite as the substrate. The experimental design was the completely randomized with four replications of 25 seeds for each sample, and the average values of germination at the different temperatures compared by the Tukey test (5%). Seeds germinated at 25ºC, 35ºC, and 25ºC-35ºC presented higher percentages of germination, not differing from each other. However, greater vigor was found at 35ºC, this being considered the optimum temperature. The lowest values of germination and germination index (GI) occurred at 15ºC-25ºC. The initial moisture of the seeds was 48%. The drying of the seeds negatively affected the germination, with the critic moisture content of 25% and the fast drying being more favorable to the germination.

Estudou-se a influência de extratos vegetais no crescimento, in vitro, de plântulas de Rosa x hybrida, objetivando o desenvolvimento de novos reguladores vegetais para a propagação dessa planta ornamental. Extratos metanólicos de Saintpaulia ionantha Wendl. (folhas), Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. (folhas) e Bougainvillea spectabilis Wild. (folhas e flores) foram obtidos nas concentrações de 150 e 300 mg.L-1. Na ocasião de preparo do extrato todas as plantas se encontravam no período de floração. O experimento foi realizado em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com dez tratamentos e quatro repetições. Dois desses tratamentos foram utilizados como controle: meio de cultura com e sem BAP (6-benzilaminopurina). As variáveis analisadas foram: número e comprimento de brotos, número e comprimento de raízes, e número de folhas por broto. Quanto à variável número de brotos, todos os extratos testados se comportaram como o controle sem o BAP. No que diz respeito ao número e comprimento de raízes, apenas o extrato das folhas de H. rosa-sinensis na concentração de 300 mg.L-1 se mostrou diferente do controle sem o BAP, com valores estatisticamente iguais ao do controle com BAP. Excetuando-se o extrato de H. rosa-sinensis, todos reduziram o número de folhas por broto. Embora os efeitos observados não tenham sido tão pronunciados quanto os causados pelo BAP, os resultados indicam a presença de fitormônios nos extratos estudados.

This work aimed to study the influence of plant extracts on the in vitro growth of Rosa x hybrida plantlets, to contribute to the development of new plant growth regulators to propagate such ornamental plant. Methanolic extracts of Saintpaulia ionantha Wendl. (leaves), Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. (leaves) and Bougainvillea spectabilis Wild. (leaves and flowers) were employed at 150 and 300 mg.L-1. Flowering plants were used to obtain the extracts. The experiment was carried out in a randomized design, with ten treatments and four repetitions. Culture medium with and without BAP (6-benzylaminopurine) were used as controls. The analyzed variables were shoot number and length, root number and length, and leaves per shoot. Regarding shoot number, all extracts were statistically identical to the control without BAP. When root number and length were taken into account, only the extract of H. rosa-sinensis leaves at 300 mg.L-1 differed from the control without BAP, with values statistically identical to the control with BAP. Except for the H. rosa-sinensis extract, all the others reduced the number of leaves per shoot. Although the observed effects were not as pronounced as those obtained with BAP, these results indicate the presence of plant growth regulators in the studied extracts.

Em trabalho preliminar foram obtidos 24 isolados fúngicos com propriedades antagônicas a nematóides parasitas de plantas segundo experimentos realizados em laboratório. Para dar continuidade a tal trabalho, tornou-se desejável dispor de metodologia simples e de baixo custo para selecionar aqueles sem capacidade de produção de substâncias fitotóxicas, para serem empregados em experimentos em casa-de-vegetação com fitonematóides. Conseqüentemente, cultivaram-se os fungos em meio líquido e, após filtração, as fases líquidas foram liofilizadas e extraídas com acetato de etila/metanol. Os extratos foram concentrados sob vácuo e dissolvidos em água e solução de sacarose para serem submetidos a testes in vitro com sementes de alface (Lactuca sativa L.) e com coleóptilos de trigo (Triticum aestivum L.), respectivamente. Vinte e três isolados pertencentes aos gêneros Arthrobotrys, Aspergillus, Coniothyrium, Cunninghamella, Cylindrocarpon, Fusarium, Monacrosporium, Mortierella, Paecilomyces, Penicillium, Sclerotinia, Trichoderma e Verticillium, apresentaram atividade tóxica contra os coleóptilos de trigo. Apenas os isolados de Cylindrocarpon magnusianum (Sacc.) Wollenw., Fusarium moniliforme Shelden, Mortierella sp., Paecilomyces lilacinus (Thom.) Samson e Penicillium sp. apresentaram atividade fitotóxica no teste com sementes de alface. Somente um isolado de F. moniliforme se mostrou inativo em ambos os testes, o que sugere que não seja produtor de fitotoxinas.

In a previous work 24 fungi cultures were selected due to their antagonic properties to phytonematodes in laboratory experiments. To proceed to further studies, it became desirable to use a simple and inexpensive methodology to identify those fungi able to produce phytotoxic substances, so that only the non phytotoxin producers could be used in green-house experiments with plant parasite nematodes. Thus, fungi were grown in liquid medium and the resulting mixtures were submitted to filtration. The liquid phases were freeze-dried and extracted with ethyl acetate/methanol. After extracts concentration under vacuum, the remaining substances were dissolved in water and aqueous saccharose solution to be submitted to in vitro assays with lettuce seeds (Lactuca sativa L.) and wheat coleoptile (Triticum aestivum L.), respectively. Twenty three isolates from genera Arthrobotrys, Aspergillus, Coniothyrium, Cunninghamella, Cylindrocarpon, Fusarium, Monacrosporium, Mortierella, Paecilomyces, Penicillium, Sclerotinia, Trichoderma and Verticillium, presented toxic activity against wheat coleoptile, though only isolates of Cylindrocarpon magnusianum (Sacc.) Wollenw., Fusarium moniliforme Shelden, Mortierella sp., Paecilomyces lilacinus (Thom.) Samson and Penicillium sp., presented phytotoxic effects in the lettuce seeds assay. Only one isolate of F. moniliforme was inactive in both assays, what suggests that this fungus is not able to produce phytotoxins.
