Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os métodos galharia, cobertura por plástico preto, herbicida e poleiro artificial na regeneração natural de espécies nativas em área com pastagem de Urochloa. O experimento foi conduzido entre fevereiro de 2014 e fevereiro de 2016 na Floresta Ombrófila Densa, no município de Morretes, no estado do Paraná, Brasil. Os tratamentos foram: herbicida, herbicida + poleiro, cobertura por plástico preto, cobertura por plástico preto + poleiro, galharia + herbicida, galharia + herbicida + poleiro e testemunha. As avaliações foram realizadas aos 4, 8, 12, 18 e 24 meses após a instalação do experimento, com contagem e identificação das espécies lenhosas regenerantes e estimativa visual do percentual de cobertura por herbáceas. Inicialmente, a galharia e a cobertura por plástico preto reduziram as gramíneas Urochloa; entretanto, com o decorrer do tempo, esse efeito se perdeu devido ao rápido crescimento das gramíneas das bordas para o centro das parcelas. O uso de poleiros nos tratamentos não possibilita incremento significativo de outras espécies, em razão da permanência das condições inibidoras ao estabelecimento das plântulas. O herbicida é eficiente para remover as gramíneas; contudo, o recrutamento de espécies lenhosas somente é satisfatório com o uso de poleiros para atração da fauna dispersora. Para o sucesso da restauração ecológica em pastagens, há a necessidade de eliminação local das gramíneas Urochloa.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of brushwood, black plastic mulch, herbicide, and artificial perch on the natural regeneration of native species in Urochloa grassland. The experiment was conducted between February 2014 and February 2016 in the Dense Ombrophilous Forest, in the municipality of Morretes, in the state of Paraná, Brazil. The treatments were: herbicide, herbicide + perch, black plastic mulch, black plastic mulch + perch, brushwood + herbicide, brushwood + herbicide + perch, and a control treatment. The evaluations were carried out at 4, 8, 12, 18, and 24 months after the installation of the experiment, by counting and identifying regenerating woody species and estimating visually the percentage of herbaceous coverage. Initially, brushwood and black plastic mulch reduced the Urochloa grasses; however, this effect was lost over time due to the rapid growth of the grasses from the edges to the center of the plots. The use of perches in the treatments does not allow a significant increase of other species because of the continued inhibiting conditions for the establishment of seedlings. The herbicide is effective in removing the grasses; however, the recruitment of woody species is only satisfactory when perches are used to attract the dispersing fauna. For a successful ecological restoration of pastures, there is a need for the local elimination of Urochloa grasses.

SUMMARY: Plants producing fruits for many months of the year, or at times when few species bear fruits, are highly valuable for restoration of degraded ecosystems due to their ability to attract and support dispersing fauna. An example of this are native fig trees such as Ficus enormis. Thus, in view of the difficulties for F. enormis seedlings production, we aimed at developing a method of cuttings propagation by evaluating the rooting and root vigor of cuttings from a field clonal garden. The experiment was established between June/2015 and May/2016 at Laboratory of Forest Species Propagation of Embrapa Florestas, in Colombo-PR. We evaluated collection of cuttings during three seasons (winter, spring and summer) and application of concentrations of indole-3-butyric acid - IBA (0, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 mg L-1). After 45 days of cuttings establishment in an acclimatized greenhouse, the best results for rooting, number of roots, average length of the three largest roots per cutting and maintenance of leaves and shoots were found in spring and summer. Using plant regulator did not influence the rooting or root vigor of propagules; the time of the year was the predominant factor to induce rooting. The results show that the cuttings technique with propagules from a clonal garden is efficient for producing F. enormis plants and can serve as a basis for the species propagation.

RESUMEN: Las plantas que producen frutos durante muchos meses del año, o en momentos en que pocas especies dan frutos, son de gran valor para la restauración de ecosistemas degradados debido a su capacidad para atraer y apoyar la fauna dispersora. Un ejemplo de esto son las higueras nativas como Ficus enormis. Por las dificultades para la producción de plántulas de F. enormis, fue evaluada la propagación de esquejes mediante enraizamiento y vigor de sus raíces de un jardín clonal de campo. El experimento se estableció entre junio/2015 y mayo/2016 en el Laboratorio de Propagación de Especies Forestales de Embrapa Florestas, en Colombo-PR. Se evaluó la recolección de esquejes durante tres estaciones (invierno, primavera y verano) y la aplicación de concentraciones de ácido indol-3-butírico - IBA (0, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 mg L-1). Después de 45 días de establecimiento de esquejes en un invernadero climatizado, los mejores resultados para el enraizamiento, el número de raíces, la longitud promedio de las tres raíces más grandes por corte, el mantenimiento de las hojas y los brotes se encontraron en primavera y verano. El uso del regulador de la planta no influyó en el enraizamiento y el vigor de las raíces de los propágulos, y la época del año fue el factor predominante para inducir el enraizamiento. Los resultados muestran que la técnica de esquejes con propágulos de un jardín clonal es eficiente para producir plantas de F. enormis y puede servir como base para la propagación de esta especie.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the germination potential of Aegiphila brachiata (peloteiro) and its propagation through stem-cuttings, as well as how the age of parental plants and the application indolebutyric acid (IBA) and inoculant of Azospirillum brasilense influence adventitious rooting of the species. Thus, the physical characterization of a seed lot and a germination test were performed, both with or without seed scarification and at three gibberellin concentrations (0, 50 and 100 mg.L-1 GA3). For stem-cuttings, two experiments were carried out with cuttings, one with young individuals and the other with adult trees. In both experiments, stem-cuttings were submitted to treatments with IBA (0, 1500, 3000 and 6000 mg.L-1) and a solution of Azospirillum brasilense (50% and 100% of the commercial concentration) for rooting in a greenhouse for 30 days. No seeds germinated and a barrier of radicle emission was identified in the endocarp. The inoculation of stem-cuttings with A. brasilense revealed no influence in rhizogenesis. The stem-cutting technique from young trees is recommended for plantlet production of this species (53.75% rooting), requiring 6000 mg.L-1 IBA application under the conditions that were adopted. Stem-cuttings from adult trees are not recommended for the production of plantlets of peloteiro (Aegiphila brachiata Vell.) due to the low rooting rates (10%) and high mortality (68.33%).

ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to evaluate the seed bank of three contiguous areas: pasture abandoned for ten years, with soil amended by partial beheading for two years at horizon A (area I); pasture identical to the previous example, but with recent mobilization of the topsoil (area II); area in the early stages of regeneration (area III). Field work was conducted in Morretes-PR, in an area of evergreen rain forest. In November 2013, seed bank samples were collected from ten points per area (0.30 × 0.30 m) and at three depths (0-3 cm + litter, 3.1 to 6.0 cm and 6.1 to 9.0 cm). We obtained 25.151 seeds m-2, distributed between 85 species. The predominant life form was herbaceous (98%), with the Cyperaceae family being the most abundant. In the seed banks of the three areas, only a few seeds from a restricted number of woody species were found, which therefore, represents a limited resource for forest restoration purposes.

RESUMO A pressão exercida sobre as florestas tropicais devido à fragmentação de paisagens naturais tem causado alterações no padrão de substituição das espécies presentes na comunidade vegetal. No caso de pastagens abandonadas, verifica-se uma maior vulnerabilidade do ambiente à colonização por gramíneas exóticas invasoras, as quais representam uma barreira ao estabelecimento de plantas nativas, desde a dispersão e germinação das sementes, até estádios mais avançados do seu desenvolvimento. Em vista disso, propôs-se discorrer sobre alguns dos processos da regeneração natural em áreas de pastagens, abordando aspectos que impedem o recrutamento de espécies lenhosas desejáveis e, nesse contexto, a exposição de algumas metodologias embasadas no conceito de nucleação que podem auxiliar nesse processo. Por meio da compreensão dos mecanismos envolvidos na manutenção das comunidades vegetais, verifica-se que a germinação de sementes e o recrutamento de plântulas são passos cruciais do processo de restabelecimento da vegetação. Como apenas uma estreita faixa de condições é adequada (safe sites) ao recrutamento, o sucesso da regeneração está relacionado à capacidade do ambiente em proporcionar um leito adequado para germinação de sementes (seedbed). A utilização de metodologias que visem à regeneração natural, para serem eficazes em áreas de pastagens, devem ser bem estabelecidas tecnicamente e adequadas à realidade local, pois, embora apresentem resultados iniciais promissores, podem deixar de ser efetivas com o passar do tempo.

ABSTRACT The pressure on rainforests due to fragmentation of natural landscapes has caused changes in the substitution pattern of the species present in the plant community. In the case of abandoned pastures, there is an increased environmental vulnerability to colonization by invasive exotic grasses, which represent a barrier to the establishment of native plants, since the dispersion and seed germination until the later stages of their development. We proposed to discuss some of the processes of natural regeneration in pastures, addressing issues that hinder the recruitment of desirable woody species and, in this context, the exposure of some methodologies based on the concept of nucleation that can help this process. Through understanding of the mechanisms involved in the maintenance of plant communities, we observed that the seed germination and seedling recruitments are crucial steps in the process of vegetation restoration. Because only a narrow range of conditions is suitable (safe sites) for the recruitment, successful regeneration depends on the environment ability to provide an appropriate bed for germination (seedbed). The use of methodologies that aimed the natural regeneration, to be effective in pasture areas, should be technically well established and adequate to the local reality, because although they have promising initial results, may no longer be effective over time.

RESUMO A galharia é um método de complexação ambiental, que consiste no aproveitamento de resíduos vegetais. Esse método, quando bem estabelecido tecnicamente, pode exercer influência sobre a qualidade da cama de sementes, favorecendo o estabelecimento de plantas nativas e a restauração do ecossistema. Dessa forma, objetivou-se avaliar a eficiência de galharia para a indução da regeneração natural de espécies nativas em área coberta por gramíneas exóticas inibidoras do gênero Urochloa, bem como verificar o tamanho mínimo necessário para conter a reinvasão das forrageiras. Como hipótese, adotou-se a largura mínima de 4 m como suficiente para o estabelecimento da regeneração natural, antes da reocupação das forrageiras. O experimento foi conduzido entre maio 2014 e maio 2016 em Morretes-PR, na Floresta Ombrófila Densa de Terras Baixas. Foram implantados sete tamanhos de galharia: 6 x 1, 6 x 2, 6 x 3, 6 x 4, 6 x 5, 6 x 6 m e testemunha. As espécies lenhosas foram identificadas e contadas e a porcentagem de cobertura herbácea estimada após 4, 8, 12, 18 e 24 meses. Não se verificou retomada da sucessão natural por espécies nativas. Independentemente do tamanho, a galharia foi ineficiente para conter a reinvasão pelas gramíneas a partir das bordas das parcelas e, como pilha de resíduos, dificultou o estabelecimento de espécies lenhosas. Para a criação de safe sites e consequente restauração via regeneração natural, faz-se necessária a eliminação local das forrageiras Urochloa, sem a qual espécies nativas terão pouca probabilidade de sobreviver.

ABSTRACT The brushwood is a technique of environmental complexation, which consists in the use of plant residues. This technique, when well established technically, can exert influence on seedbed quality, fostering native plant establishment and ecosystem restoration. In this way, we aimed to evaluate the efficiency of brushwood for the induction of natural regeneration of native species in an area covered by exotic inhibitory grasses of the genus Urochloa, as well as check the minimum size required to prevent the re-invasion of the forage. As a hypothesis, we adopted the minimum width of 4 m as sufficient for the establishment of natural regeneration prior to the reoccupation of grasses. The experiment was conducted between May 2014 and May 2016 in Morretes-PR in a lowland evergreen rain forest area. Seven different sizes of brushwood were compared: 6 x 1, 6 x 2, 6 x 3, 6 x 4, 6 x 5, 6 x 6 m and control treatment. Woody species were identified and counted and herbaceous cover percentage estimated after 4, 8, 12, 18 and 24 months. There was no resumption of natural succession of native species. At any size, brushwood alone was ineffective to prevent the growth by grasses from the edges of the plots, and, since it constitutes a residue pile, it further complicates the establishment of woody species. For the creation of safe sites and consequent restoration by natural regeneration, there is a need for local elimination of Urochloa forages, without which native species are unlikely to survive.

RESUMO O presente trabalho buscou verificar os efeitos da aplicação de diferentes concentrações do ácido indolbutírico (AIB), em talco e em solução, no enraizamento de estacas caulinares de Tibouchina sellowiana (Cham.) Cogn. coletadas nas quatro estações do ano, bem como suas variações anatômicas e bioquímicas. Estacas semilenhosas foram tratadas com 0, 1500 e 3000 mg L-1 de ácido indolbutírico (AIB), em talco e solução 50% alcoólica. Após 65 dias em casa-de-vegetação, foram avaliados a porcentagem de estacas enraizadas, o número e o comprimento das raízes, a porcentagem de estacas com calos e a sobrevivência. O uso do AIB mostrou-se eficiente na indução radicial, sendo indiferente a forma em que foi aplicado. As estações mais promissoras foram a primavera (78,75%) com 3.000 mg L-1 ou mg kg-1 de AIB e o verão (63,12%) com 1.500 mg L-1 ou mg kg-1 de AIB. Das secções feitas na base das estacas, no momento da estaquia, não foi detectada nenhuma possível barreira anatômica ou diferença estrutural que promovesse variações no enraizamento. Análises bioquímicas feitas das estacas revelaram que as maiores concentrações de açúcares totais foram obtidas no inverno (83,21 mg g-1 de tecido) e no outono (72,79 mg g-1), as estações que também apresentaram as maiores concentrações de proteínas (4,69 e 3,95 mg g-1 respectivamente).

ABSTRACT The present work tried to verify the effects of application of different concentration of indolebutyric acid (IBA) in talc in solution, in the rooting of cutting of Tibouchina sellowiana (Cham.) Cogn. collected in the four seasons, as well as its anatomical and biochemical variation. The semiharwood cuttings were treated with 0, 1500 and 3000 mg L-1 indolebutyric acid (IBA), in powder and alchoolic solutions. After 65 days in a greenhouse, rooting percentage, length and number of roots, cutting with callus percentage and survival, were evaluated. The use of the IBA was efficient in the induction radicial, being indifferent the form in which it was applied. The most promising stations in the formation of the system radicial were the spring (78,75%) with 3000 mg L-1 or mg kg-1 IBA and the summer (63,12 %) with 1500 mg L-1 or mg kg-1 IBA. (82,50%) with 3000 mg kg-1 IBA. Considering the cutting in the base of the stakes, in the moment of the cutting, no possible anatomical barrier or structural difference were detected so that it should promoted variations in the answers of the rooting uring the four seasons. Biochemical analyses done from the cuttings collected in the four seasons revealed that the largest concentrations of total sugars were obtained in the winter (83,21 mg g-1) and in the autumn (72,79 mg g-1). The same stations also presented the largest protein concentrations (4,69 and 3,95 mg g-1 respectively).

Um dos maiores problemas na elaboração de programas de plantios florestais, principalmente com espécies nativas é o escasso conhecimento acerca da produção de mudas. Objetivou-se avaliar o crescimento de mudas de Bauhiniafoficata a doses crescentes de fósforo (P). Mudas com 11 dias de idade foram repicadas para tubetes de 110 cm³ contendo substrato à base de casca de pínus e vermiculita média. O experimento foi conduzido no delineamento inteiramente casualizado com seis tratamentos: T0-testemunha, T1-50, T2-100, T3-150, T4-200 e T5-250 mg dm-3 de P. Ao final de 60 dias, as mudas apresentaram um percentual de 98,2% de sobrevivência e excelente formação radicular. A altura variou positivamente em função das concentrações de P, tanto aos 30 quanto aos 60 dias, obtendo-se a máxima produção até da dose de 250 mg dm-3 de P. Aos 60 dias, comportamento semelhante também foi observado para área foliar e produção de matéria seca. A incorporação de P ao substrato promoveu aumento de fósforo, potássio e nitrogênio nos tecidos vegetais. As concentrações de P influenciaram positivamente a maioria das características de crescimento, sendo estimada a máxima produção até a dose de 250 mg dm-3 de P, demonstrando ser uma espécie muito exigente em P na fase inicial de crescimento.

One of the greatest problems in the elaboration of forestation programs using native species is the lack of knowledge about seedling production. This study aimed to evaluate the growth of Bauhinia forficata seedlings submitted to phosphorus levels. Elevenday-old seedlings were transplanted to small tubettes (110 cm³) with pinus bark and vermiculite substratum base. The experiment was conducted in an entirely randomized delineation, with six P treatments: TO-control (substratum without P addition), T1-50, T2100, T3-150, T4-200 and T5-250 mg dm-3, with five replications and 20 seedlings per replication. After 60 days, the seedlings presented a 98.2% survival rate and good root formation. The height varied in function of P levels, with maximum production up to the P dose of 250 mg dm-3; 60 days after the transplant, similar behavior for leaf area and dry matter production was observed. Furthermore, the P incorporation increased the phosphorus (P), potassium (K) and nitrogen (N) accumulation in vegetable tissues. Seedling growth was positively influenced by P levels, and the maximum growth occurred up to the P dose of 250 mg dm-3. In conclusion, this characteristic showed that the species requires high levels of P during initial growth, under the tubette system.

Erythrina falcata Benth. tem sido usada na recuperação de ecossistemas degradados, como planta ornamental e em sistemas agroflorestais. Entretanto, a produção de mudas por sementes é difícil. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a propagação vegetativa de E. falcata utilizando estacas caulinares provenientes de árvores adultas (estacas herbáceas, semilenhosas e de rebrota) e mudas, coletadas em quatro épocas do ano e o efeito do ácido indolbutírico (AIB) no enraizamento de estacas dessa espécie. Depois de preparadas, as estacas foram imersas em ácido indolbutírico (AIB, 0, 1,5 e 3 g L-1). O material se desenvolveu em tubetes de plástico (55 mL), em casa de vegetação climatizada, a uma temperatura de 25 a 30ºC e umidade relativa do ar acima de 80%, em substrato de vermiculita granulometria média. Maior porcentagem de enraizamento (73%), comprimento das quatro maiores raízes (46 mm) e número de raízes (6,2) foram obtidos em estacas de mudas coletadas no verão. Não houve enraizamento em estacas semilenhosas, provenientes de árvores adultas. A imersão das estacas em AIB não exerceu qualquer influência no enraizamento. As estacas de mudas coletadas no verão são as de melhor propagação vegetativa em virtude de melhor porcentagem de enraizamento e sobrevivência.

Erythrina falcata Benth. may be used as an ornamental plant, in rehabilitation of degraded land and as a component in agroforestry systems. However seedling production from seeds is difficult. The aim of this work was to evaluate vegetative propagation of E. falcata by using stem cuttings obtained from adult trees (softwood cuttings, hardwood cuttings and regrowth cuttings) and cuttings from seedlings collected in the four seasons of the year as well as the effect of indolebutyric acid on rooting of stem cuttings. After cutting preparation, the material was treated with an indolebutyric acid solution (IBA, 0, 1.5 and 3 g L-1). Cuttings were grown in 55-mL tapered plastic containers in a greenhouse at 25 to 30ºC and relative humidity above 80%. The substrate for growing of cuttings was middle texture vermiculite. The highest percentage of rooted cuttings (73%) and root length of four longest roots (46 mm) and root number (6.2) were obtained in seedling cuttings collected in the summer. No rooting was observed in cuttings collected from softwood cuttings raised from adult trees. Cutting immersion in IBA solutions had no effect on rooting. Cuttings from seedlings collected in the summer are recommended because of their high percentage of rooting and survival.
