RESUMO: A produção de noz-pecã encontra-se em crescimento no Brasil, especialmente no Rio Grande do Sul, que responde por aproximadamente 70% da produção do país. A importância da pecanicultura para o Estado, particularmente para a metade sul, que desenvolve uma pecuária extensiva e a monocultura do arroz e da soja, está relacionada tanto com a possibilidade de aumento da diversificação, quanto com a agregação de uma receita extra nas propriedades rurais. Neste sentido, este trabalho teve como objetivo estimar os custos de produção e a viabilidade econômica de uma pequena propriedade familiar, produtora de noz-pecã em nível comercial no Rio Grande do Sul. Os custos de produção foram levantados pelo período de sete anos e projetados até o trigésimo ano. Os valores monetários foram atualizados para o mês de junho de 2022 e adotou-se a metodologia de custos de produção determinada pela Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento - CONAB. Os resultados demonstraram que o empreendimento não foi economicamente viável no horizonte de 30 anos. ABSTRACT: The production of pecan [Carya illinoinensis (Wangenh.) K. Koch] is increasing in Brazil, especially in the Rio Grande do Sul, which accounts for approximately 70% of the country’s production. The importance of pecan farming for the state, particularly for the southern half, which is characterized by extensive livestock farming and the monoculture of rice and soybeans, is related both to the possibility of increasing diversification and to the aggregation of extra income in rural areas. In this context, this research estimated the production costs and economic viability of a small family property, which is the common scale of pecan production in the Rio Grande do Sul. The production costs were collected from a real farm for a 7-year period, and then projected until the 30th year. All the monetary values were updated for June 2022, and the production cost methodology determined by the Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (CONAB) was adopted. The results showed that the enterprise was not economically viable over a 30-year horizon. Abstract: Despite the importance of the Value of Agricultural Production (VAP) for the GDP of Rio Grande do Sul, no quantitative work has been carried out on local scale to assess how this importance may vary over the space. The knowledge about how the VAP is transferred to GDP remains aggregated for the entire state and speculative at local scales. In this study the growth of the GDP (cGDP) and Agricultural Production Value (cVAP) were verified in an Exploratory Spatial Analysis (ESA) to assess the sensitivity of the results to state partitioning and adjacency relationships. Evidences of spatial structuring of the association between cVAP and cGDP were verified in a Monte Carlo test to conclude that the association is non-stationary and heterogeneously defined by the local economy. Abstract: Blueberry cultivation is a recent economic activity in Brazil. The productive and commercial systems still need improvement, especially to maintain the regularity of quality and productivity and the transparency of costs and prices. There is no study dedicated to analyze the economic viability of blueberry production under Brazilian conditions. Therefore, the objective of this study is to survey the costs and analyze the economic and financial viability of this crop in a farm located in Pelotas, state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Brazil. The data collection and analysis followed the procedure adopted by the Policy Analysis Matrix, and the viability indicators were net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR) and payback period. The results showed a production cost of US$ 7,394.61 per hectare or US$ 2,310.88 per ton and financial viability for production, since the NPV for the 10-year period was US$ 26,214.81, the IRR was 26.36%, the net income was US$ 7,180.25 hectare/year-1, and the payback was 4.9 years. Therefore, blueberry production in southern RS is profitable, and the production chain can receive new investments given the technological and market conditions of this study.

Resumo: O cultivo do mirtilo é uma atividade econômica recente no Brasil. O sistema produtivo e comercial ainda precisa de melhorias, principalmente para oferecer regularidade, qualidade produtiva e transparência de custos e preços. Não se tem conhecimento de estudos dedicados a analisar a viabilidade econômica da produção de mirtilo nas condições brasileiras. Portanto, o objetivo deste trabalho é levantar os custos e analisar a viabilidade econômico-financeira desta cultura em uma fazenda localizada em Pelotas (RS). A coleta e análise dos dados seguiram o procedimento adotado pela Matriz de Análise de Política e os indicadores de viabilidade utilizados foram o Valor Presente Líquido (VPL), a Taxa Interna de Retorno (TIR) e o Payback. Os resultados mostraram um custo de produção de US$ 7.394,61 por hectare ou US$ 2.310,88 por tonelada e viabilidade financeira na produção, dado que o VPL para o período de 10 anos foi de US$ 26.214,81, a TIR de 26,36%, a renda líquida foi de US$ 7.180,25 hectare/ano-1 e o Payback foi de 4,9 anos. Desse modo, a produção de mirtilo no sul do RS é lucrativa e a cadeia produtiva pode receber novos investimentos, segundo as condições tecnológicas e mercadológicas indicadas neste estudo.

Resumo: O estudo objetiva desenvolver e testar um modelo que enfatiza o relacionamento da intenção empreendedora e capacidade gerencial no desempenho de propriedades leiteiras. O artigo também examina o efeito do desempenho atual na expectativa de desempenho futuro e no planejamento sucessório das fazendas. A amostra consistiu em 158 produtores de leite do Paraná e do Rio Grande do Sul, realizada em 2017. Para validar o modelo e testar as hipóteses, utilizou-se o procedimento estatístico Path Analysis (Análise de Caminhos). Os resultados mostram que, entre as dimensões da orientação empreendedora, a inovatividade tem mais impacto no desempenho e na capacidade gerencial. A capacidade gerencial não é significativamente relacionada ao desempenho atual das fazendas leiteiras, mas sim à expectativa de desempenho, que, por sua vez, tem impacto significativo no planejamento sucessório das fazendas. A idade dos agricultores modera as relações, especialmente, entre inovatividade, proatividade e capacidade gerencial no desempenho das fazendas.

Abstract: The main objective of the study is to develop and test a model that emphasizes the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and managerial capacity (MC) to the performance of dairy farms. This article also examines the effect of these variables on performance expectations as well as the succession planning of farms. Cross-sectional data were collected out of a sample of 158 dairy farmers in 2017 in Brazil. A path analysis approach has been applied to validate the hypothesized model. Results show that between EO dimensions, innovativity has the greatest impact on performance as well as on MC. MC is not significantly related to the current performance on dairy farms, but it is so to the performance expectation, which in turn has an impact on the succession planning of farms. The age of the farmers moderates the relations hypothesized in the model, especially between innovativity, proactivity, and MC in the farms’ performance.

ABSTRACT We aimed to evaluate the impact of milking management practices on milk quality though somatic cell count (SCC) and total bacterial count (TBC). By means of a survey that included farmers associated to two cooperatives, namely Cosulati in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and Castrolanda in the state of Paraná, the hypothesis that milking handling practices impact SCC and TBC levels negatively, regardless of the technological development level of the farm, was analyzed. For such, the quantile regression method was used to estimate models for the 10th, 50th, and 90th quantiles. The results confirmed that SCC and TBC levels decrease as the number of practices increases. However, only three practices impact SCC and TBC levels significantly, and their impact is not related to the farm technological level, according to tests performed by quantile regression. Finally, the study showed that some milk quality and management practices affect somatic cell count and total bacterial count more than others, which consists of using the correct active principle during dry cattle, post-dip, and the water temperature control periods.

Resumo Neste artigo, tem-se como objetivo a analise da intenção empreendedora em diferentes ambientes institucionais de educação superior – universidades públicas e privadas. Para tanto, utilizou-se um modelo de intenção empreendedora adaptado de Krueger et al. (2000), conhecido como Modelo Clássico de Intenções Empreendedoras. Os dados foram coletados por meio de um questionário estruturado aplicado em três universidades públicas e três privadas do estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Através da análise comparativa utilizando-se do método econométrico de diferenças em diferenças evidenciou-se que os resultados estão de acordo com parte de estudos anteriores mostrando que os estudantes de universidades privadas têm intenções empreendedoras mais elevadas. No entanto, os resultados revelaram que os alunos das universidades privadas já tinham intenção empreendedora mais elevada antes de entrarem no curso superior. Assim, não há evidências de que exista diferença na influência do ambiente universitário público e privado na intenção empreendera, e nem nos fatores subjacentes desta (que formam a mesma), exceto para o fator que expressa o desejo de aprender sobre empreendedorismo.

Abstract This study analyses the entrepreneurial intention (EI) in different higher education institutional environments – public and private universities. To achieve the objectives, an EI model adapted from Krueger et al. (2000) was used, which is known as Entrepreneurial Intention Classical Model. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire applied in three public universities and three private universities in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. Through comparative analysis and employing the Difference-in-Differences econometric method, it was seen that the results are in accordance with part of previous studies which pointed out that private university students have higher entrepreneurial intentions. However, the results also revealed that private university students already had higher EI before starting their graduation courses. Therefore, there is no evidence of difference of the influence of public and private university environments in EI, or in its underlying factors (that form EI), except for the factor that expresses the desire to learn about entrepreneurship.

Objetiva-se neste artigo avaliar o crescimento do valor da produção (VP) do feijão e da soja no Rio Grande do Sul (RS), baseado no comportamento de seus determinantes área, rendimento e preço. Também se pretende determinar como choques nestes componentes transmitem-se de uma safra para outra no VP. Utilizaram-se dados de área, rendimento e preço do feijão preto e da soja no RS de 1977 até 2010. A metodologia shift-share permitiu decompor a importância de cada item sobre a variação do valor da produção. O ferramental de séries temporais permitiu obter o efeito de um choque em uma variável, ceteris paribus, sobre as demais. No curto prazo, o rendimento é o principal responsável pela variação do VP. Entretanto, no longo prazo, a queda dos preços reais de ambos os produtos é o fator determinante na redução dos seus valores da produção. O valor da produção reage positivamente a choques positivos na área, rendimento e preço no ano corrente ao choque. Em geral, os ajustes são mais dinâmicos na soja do que no feijão

Black beans and soybeans are important agribusiness activities in the Rio Grande do Sul, but they present distinct features at the production and at the marketing levels. The aim of this article is to evaluate the production value (PV) growth of these activities through its decomposition into three main components: area, productivity and price. The study also aims to determine how shocks in these variables are transmitted from one agricultural season to another in the PV. The data used comprised the period of 1977 to 2010 and the shift share's model was used to decompose the share of each component on the VP growth. Additionally, it was used a series of vector auto regression models to determine the current and lagged effects of these components over PV. The results show that in the short run the component productivity is the main responsible for variation in the PV. However, in the long run the decrease in the real prices is the most important determinant of the PV reduction. Positive shocks on the three components yields immediately positive reaction on PV. The propagation of the effects resembles the cobweb model with more dynamics adjustments for soybean than for black beans

Este artigo trata das relações entre a taxa de empreendedorismo, seus determinantes e consequências. O modelo que relaciona antecedentes demográficos, culturais, econômicos e institucionais do empreendedorismo com a taxa de formação de novas empresas e com a renda per capita e o índice de desenvolvimento humano foi proposto e testado usando dados municipais do estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Evidências foram encontradas de que variáveis institucionais, econômicas e demográficas determinam a taxa de empreendedorismo. Além disso, encontramos suporte para a relação - taxa de empreendedorismo e nível de desenvolvimento municipal. Porém, diferente de outras pesquisas, os resultados deste trabalho sugerem que a taxa de empreendedorismo, além de exercer efeitos diretos na renda per capita e no índice de desenvolvimento humano, tem efeitos indiretos. Este resultado tem importância para o estabelecimento de políticas de desenvolvimento regional, visto que, se o interesse é fortalecer o desempenho regional, a melhor maneira é estimular os fatores que determinam a criação de empresas, mais do que somente estimular mais pessoas a iniciarem novos negócios.

This paper is about the links between entrepreneurship determinants, entrepreneurship rate and entrepreneurship consequences. A model relating demographic, cultural, economical and institutional antecedents to entrepreneurship rate and to economic and social regional performance is proposed and tested using Rio Grande do Sul municipal data. The results support the view that institutional, economical and demographic variables shape entrepreneurship rate. Moreover support was also found for the fact that the entrepreneurship rate impacts the development of localities. Unlike other researches our results also suggest that the entrepreneurship rate mediates the effects of other variables on the regional economic and social performance. This result has important implications for establishing regional development policies because if the interest is to enhance economic and social development the best practice is to improve the entrepreneurship antecedents rather than only stimulate more people to start new business.
