RESUMO Neste estudo objetivou-se caracterizar a zona hiporreica de um trecho do rio Ipojuca através de análises dos sedimentos e da meiofauna desse ambiente. Foram realizadas coletas de amostras em dois pontos, (Ponto 1: 8º17'28.2” S; 35º59'38.6” W e Ponto 2: 8º17'48.1” S; 35º56'12.2” W), e em três períodos: verão (novembro/2018), período de transição (março/2018) e inverno (junho/2018). O material mais representativo foi classificado como silte, variando entre grosso, médio e fino. Foram contabilizados 678 indivíduos da meiofauna, distribuídos em quatro taxa mais representativos, Rotifera (41%), Nematoda (40%), Annelida (11%) e Copepoda (5%). A análise PERMANOVA indicou diferenças significativas para os fatores Tempo (p = 0,0009) e Espaço (p = 0,0261). Não houve relação significativa entre a estrutura da comunidade da meiofauna e as variáveis do ambiente hiporreico. ABSTRACT This study characterized the hyporheic zone of a stretch of the Ipojuca River through analysis of the sediments and meiofauna of this environment. Samples were collected at two points (Point 1: 8°17'28.2” S; 35°59'38.6” W and Point 2: 8°17'48.1” S; 35°56'12.2” W) and in three periods: summer (November/2018), transition period (March/2018), and winter (June/2018). The most representative material was classified as silt, varying between coarse, medium, and fine. 678 meiofauna individuals were counted, distributed in four more representative taxa, Rotifera (41%), Nematoda (40%), Annelida (11%), and Copepoda (5%). The PERMANOVA analysis indicated significant differences for the period (p = 0.0009) and space (p = 0.0261) factors. There was no significant relationship between the meiofauna community structure and hyporheic environment variables. RESUMO Este estudo determina o grau de estresse hidrológico (HS) na bacia do rio Goiana em Pernambuco, um estado do nordeste do Brasil. O índice de estresse hidrológico é obtido comparando-se os valores das licenças superficiais com os limites concedidos pelos gestores. Os resultados apontaram para uma situação de “Alto” estresse hidrológico (HS) na sub-bacia da Nazaré da Mata, com aproximadamente 94,76% da vazão outorgável sendo utilizada. Na sub-bacia do Caricé, o grau de estresse hidrológico foi considerado “Médio”, sendo concedido cerca de 31,77% da vazão disponível. As demais sub-bacias tiveram resultados considerados como “Baixo” estresse hidrológico (entre 0% e 25%). Com os resultados, o estudo ressalta a importância do constante monitoramento dos dados de demanda por usos de água na região e o aperfeiçoamento dos critérios para concessão de outorga pelos órgãos gestores.

ABSTRACT This study determines the degree of hydrological stress (HS) on the Goiana River basin in Pernambuco, a state in northeastern Brazil. The hydrological stress index is obtained by comparing the values of the surface permits with the limits granted by the managers. The results pointed to a situation of “High” hydrological stress (HS) in the Nazaré da Mata sub-basin, with approximately 94.76% of the grantable flow being used. In the Caricé sub-basin, the degree of hydrological stress was considered “Medium,” with about 31.77% of available flow being granted. The other sub-basins had results considered to be “Low” hydrological stress (between 0% and 25%). Given these results, this study emphasizes the importance of constantly monitoring data on the demand for water use in the region and improving the criteria management bodies follow when granting permits.

RESUMO Para um estudo hidrogeológico adequado de camadas de aluvião no semiárido é importante conhecer bem sua geometria e suas propriedades. As formações aluviais são geralmente constituídas por processos de erosão, transporte e sedimentação, causando considerável heterogeneidade nos parâmetros hidráulicos do solo e no fluxo de água. A presente pesquisa teve como objetivo realizar uma caracterização geofísica através do Radar de Penetração no Solo – GPR no leito seco do rio Capibaribe. As mudanças nas camadas no conteúdo de água, granulometria, tipo de sedimento e orientação das camadas, o lençol freático, as estruturas sedimentares e os contatos litológicos tendem ser identificados, o que torna o método eficaz para investigação hidrogeológica. A área de estudo compreende as aluviões do leito seco do alto Capibaribe no município de Santa Cruz do Capibaribe. Os resultados mostraram que o GPR foi eficiente no imageamento da subsuperficie contribuindo para o conhecimento da geometria e da estratigrafia do aquífero do leito. No leito seco do rio, com antena de 400 MHz o sinal atingiu profundidade de 2,65 m e com antena de 200 MHz o sinal atingiu 6,00 m. A franja capilar foi identificada na profundidade de 3,0 m com o uso das antenas de 200MHz e 400MHz.

ABSTRACT For an adequate hydrogeological study of alluvial layers in the semi-arid zone, it is important to know well its geometry and its hydraulics characteristics. Alluvial formations are generally constituted by erosion, transport and sedimentation processes, causing considerable heterogeneity in soil hydraulic parameters and water flow. The present research had as objective to perform a geophysical characterization using the Ground Penetrating Radar – GPR in the dry bed of the Capibaribe river. To the extent that depositional layers exhibit changes in water content, granularity, sediment type and layer orientation, the water table as well as sedimentary structures and lithological contacts tend to be identified, making the method effective for hydrogeology research. The study area comprises alluvial dry river bed of upper Capibaribe river in the municipality of Santa Cruz do Capibaribe. The results showed that GPR was efficient in the imaging of the subsurface contributing to the knowledge of the geometry and the stratigraphy of the aquifer of the dry bed of the river. In the dry bed of the river, with 400 MHz antenna the signal reached a depth of 2.65 m, and with the antenna of 200 MHz, the signal reached a depth of 6.00 m. The capillary fringe was identified at a depth of 3.0m with the use of 200MHz and 400MHz antennas.

RESUMO O processo de urbanização altera significativamente os processos de escoamento natural da bacia hidrográfica, com o aumento do volume das águas pluviais escoadas superficialmente, incremento das vazões de pico dos corpos d’água, degradação da qualidade da água, geração de sedimentos, entre outros. A gestão das águas pluviais tem, então, um papel fundamental em uma área urbana, este processo vem se tornando cada vez mais complexo, envolvendo não somente aspectos hidrológicos e hidráulicos, como também questões ambientais, sociais e sanitárias, além dos aspectos técnicos e de custos usualmente considerados. Esta complexidade leva, cada vez mais, ao uso da análise multicritério como suporte a decisão. Neste sentido, este trabalho objetiva a aplicação de uma metodologia de análise multicriterial aplicado a drenagem urbana, com o auxílio do PROMETHEE. Os resultados indicaram que a aplicação de análise de multicritério agregado aos cenários de intervenções hidráulicas se adequa bem à realidade, pois permite incluir uma gestão participativa.

ABSTRACT The urbanization process significantly changes natural drainage processes within a river basin, for instance with the increase of volume of rainwater drained superficially it also increases the peak flows of water bodies, degradation of the water quality, and the sediment generation, among others. Rainwater drainage management plays a key role in urban areas, becoming increasingly complex, involving not only hydrological and hydraulic aspects, but also environmental, social and health issues, as well as other technical and high costs issues. This complexity leads, increasingly, to the use of multicriteria analysis as a support for decision-making. To deal with this, this work aimed to apply a multicriteria analysis methodology, using PROMETHEE method, to issues of urban rainwater drainage. The results indicated that the application of multiparticipative decision making and multicriteria analysis to possible scenarios of hydraulic interventions is well suited to reality.

RESUMO Este trabalho apresenta um estudo de alternativas compensatórias em drenagem urbana, utilizando o modelo SWMM (Storm Water Management Model), para o ponto crítico de alagamento numa área urbana e vulnerável as oscilações de maré, situada no Recife. Para isto, utilizaram-se informações cadastrais da rede de microdrenagem e definiram-se os parâmetros e variáveis necessários para a modelagem, tais como: subáreas de contribuição ao sistema de drenagem, indicando o percentual de impermeabilização do solo, largura equivalente, declividade e taxa de infiltração; chuva de projeto; e curva de maré. Com o modelo calibrado, foram simuladas duas condições alternativas. A primeira, que trata de uma adequação da rede de drenagem, apresentou reduções máximas no volume de alagamento de 37% para os eventos com período de retorno de dois anos e de 58% para cinco anos de recorrência. A segunda, baseada na implantação de um reservatório de detenção na rede existente, apresentou resultado satisfatório para o evento de dois anos e reduziu cerca de 38% para eventos de cinco anos. Os resultados mostraram que houve uma redução na área de alagamento para as condições simuladas. No entanto, a primeira alternativa não resolveria os problemas de alagamentos locais, apenas atenuaria e aumentaria a sobrecarga dos condutos a jusante do sistema modificado, enquanto que a segunda alternativa poderia resolver o problema dos alagamentos, com a ocorrência de um evento de dois anos.

ABSTRACT This paper presents a study of compensatory alternatives in urban drainage, using SWMM model (Storm Water Management Model), for the critical point of flooding in an urban area and vulnerable to tide fluctuations, located in Recife. For this, we used the registered information of the micro-drainage network and defined the parameters and variables required for modeling, such as: the subareas of contribution to the drainage system, indicating the percentage of soil waterproofing, equivalent width, slope, and infiltration rate; project rain; and tide curve. Two alternatives were simulated after the model has been calibrated. The first, which is an adaptation of the drainage network, presented maximum reductions in the volume of flooding of 37% for the events with recurrence period of two years and of 58% for five years of recurrence. The second, based on the deployment of a detention tank in the existing network, presented satisfactory results for the event of two years and reduced approximately 38% for events of five years. The results showed that there was a reduction in the area of flooding for the conditions simulated. However, the first alternative would not solve the local flooding problems, it would only attenuate and would increase the overload of the drainage pipes downstream of the modified system, while the second alternative could solve the problem of flooding, with the occurrence of an event of two years.

RESUMO A interação entre águas subterrânea e superficial ocorre naturalmente e depende da dinâmica na zona hiporreica. A zona hiporreica é a interface entre o corpo hídrico superficial e o meio subterrâneo, sendo um sistema que também influencia a qualidade da água. Uma importante característica é a capacidade de fluxo nesta zona. O trabalho objetivou avaliar o fluxo vertical de água na zona hiporreica em dois pontos do rio Beberibe, Olinda - PE, para compreender as características do ambiente hiporreico e a dinâmica do fluxo de água nesta zona, além de identificar a existência de conexão hidráulica entre a água superficial e subterrânea. A fase experimental consistiu em ensaios de infiltração no leito com infiltrômetro de cilindro e leituras da diferença da carga hidráulica com piezômetro diferencial, complementadas com informações granulométricas, para uma avaliação da capacidade de transporte de volumes hídricos entre o rio e o aquífero. Analisando-se o comportamento da interação ao longo do período de 10 meses, verificou-se que o rio Beberibe no seu curso médio contribui para a recarga do lençol freático em boa parte do tempo, sendo a média da taxa de infiltração de 1,02 mm/min no ponto 1 e de 0,85 mm/min no ponto 2. Concluiu-se que há uma variabilidade no sentido do fluxo, que geralmente é de cima para baixo, mas pode sofrer alteração no fluxo apresentando ascendência após longos períodos de chuva. Concluiu-se, ainda, que a distribuição granulométrica dos sedimentos do leito, que são predominantemente arenosos, influencia a condutividade hidráulica da zona hiporreica e consequentemente as taxas de escoamento vertical.

ABSTRACT The interaction between groundwater and surface water occurs naturally and is dependent on the dynamics in the hyporheic zone. The hyporheic zone is the interface between the surface water source and the phreatic aquifer and it’s a system that also influences the water quality. An important feature is the ability to flux in this zone. This work aimed to evaluate the vertical hydraulic gradient in the hyporheic zone at two points in Beberibe river, Olinda-PE, to understand the hyporheic environment characteristics and water flow dynamics in experimental area, in addition to identify the existence of hydraulic connection between surface water and groundwater. The experimental phase consisted of infiltration tests in riverbed with cylinder infiltrometer and vertical hydraulic gradients readings with differential piezometer, complemented with grain size information, for an assessment of the water budget between the river and the aquifer. Analyzing the behavior of the interaction over the period of 10 months, it was observed that the Beberibe river (middle course) contributes to the groundwater recharge in most of the time. The average infiltration rate was 1.02 mm/min in point 1 and 0.85 mm/min in point 2. It was concluded that there is a variability in flow direction, which often is top-down, but may undergo change in the stream showing upstream after long periods of rainfall. Another conclusion is that grain size distribution of bed sediment, that is predominantly sandy, influences hydraulic conductivity of hyporheic zone and influences consequently the vertical flow rates.

Resumo Este trabalho apresenta um projeto experimental de uma trincheira de infiltração instalada na cidade de Recife, PE, nos primeiros meses de vida útil. Foram avaliadas as funções de armazenamento de água no interior do sistema e a função de infiltração, observando-se o processo de recessão. Em razão dos consequentes eventos de precipitação, a trincheira foi muito solicitada, não tendo suprido, em alguns casos, o grande volume de entrada, o que gerou extravasamento na estrutura. Uma análise de custo foi implementada e avaliaram-se o desempenho e o custo de construção para os tempos de retorno (2, 5, 10 e 25 anos) e durações de chuva de projeto (10, 15, 60 e 120 min). Essa análise revelou que houve subdimensionamento da camada de armazenamento. Apesar disso, a trincheira de infiltração apresentou resultados positivos, com a capacidade de infiltrar no mínimo 63,57% dos volumes de entrada, ou seja, trata-se de uma técnica compensatória no manejo das águas pluviais urbanas.

Abstract The aim of this paper is to present an experimental project of an installed infiltration trench in Recife/PE in the first months of life. Storage functions within the system were evaluated through the monitoring of the water levels and infiltration function, watching for the downward movement behavior level, recession. Because of the consequent events of precipitation, the trench was very requested, not having supplied, in some cases, the large volume of entry, which generated a leakage in the structure. A cost analysis was implemented and evaluated the performance and the cost of construction for the return times (2, 5, 10 and 25 years) and project rainfall durations (10, 15, 60 and 120 min). Despite the storage layer was undersizing, the infiltration trench showed positive results, and found a minimum capacity of infiltrating 63.57% of the input volumes, presenting itself as a compensatory technique in the management of urban rainwater.

INTRODUCTION: Transmission of pathogenic protozoa and helminths by water is a serious public health problem. In this study, we analyzed the presence of these organisms in the Beberibe River in Pernambuco, Brazil. METHODS: Parasite analysis was performed using the Hoffman, Pons, & Janer method followed by centrifugation and preparation of slides by staining with acetic acid and Lugol's solution. Protozoan oocysts were isolated by the modified Ziehl Neelsen method. RESULTS: Cryptosporidium spp., Giardia spp. and other parasites were found in the Beberibe River. CONCLUSIONS: Sanitation companies must assess pathogenic intestinal parasites in water basins providing public water and subsequently develop improved treatment systems for removal of such parasites.

Uma abordagem sustentável da drenagem urbana em ambientes construídos precisa integrar todo o sistema de águas urbanas. Uma das formas de se conseguir isso é melhorando a infiltração no próprio lote com a utilização de jardins de chuva, técnica do tipo controle na fonte, baseada no conceito de biorretenção e compensação das áreas impermeáveis. Este trabalho apresenta um estudo experimental de um jardim de chuva, em Recife, avaliando as funções de retenção, armazenamento e infiltração da água de chuva proveniente de um telhado. Devido à elevada taxa de infiltração na superfície (312,0 mm/h), as águas rapidamente se infiltram na estrutura. Os modelos introduzidos por Horton e Mezencev foram utilizados para representar as características de infiltração do solo natural e da primeira camada do jardim de chuva, tendo apresentado resultados satisfatórios. Uma análise de custo foi implementada, e avaliaram-se o desempenho e o custo de construção para diversos tempos de retorno (2, 5, 10 e 25 anos) e durações (de 10 min a 120 min). Durante o período de monitoramento não foi observado extravasamento na estrutura. O jardim de chuva piloto apresentou resultados satisfatórios, mostrando-se uma técnica aplicável para o manejo das águas pluviais urbanas.

A sustainable approach to urban stormwater drainage must integratethe entire urban drainage system. One way to achieve this is to maximize infiltration rates on the land lot by using rain gardens, which are a compensatory technique based on bioretention and waterproof areas compensation. This paper presents an experimental rain garden study, implemented in Recife, Brazil, evaluating the retention, storage and infiltration of the rainwater collected from the roof. Due to the high infiltration rates on the surface (312,0 mm/h), the waters quickly infiltrate into the structure. The models introduced by Horton and Mezencev were used to simulate the infiltration characteristics of the natural soil and those of the first layer of the rain garden, yielding satisfactory results. A financial cost analysis was carried out in order to estimate installation costs for recurrence times of 2, 5, 10 and 25 years, and rain durations of 10 min to 120 min. During the monitoring period,no overflow was observed. The pilot rain garden presented good results and proved to be a suitable technique for stormwater management.

Baseado nos conceitos da geometria fractal e nas leis de Laplace e de Poiseuille, foi criado um modelo geral para estimar a condutividade hidráulica de solos não saturados, utilizando a curva de retenção da água no solo, conforme representada por um modelo em potência. Considerando o fato de que este novo modelo da condutividade hidráulica introduz um parâmetro de interpolação ainda desconhecido, e que, por sua vez, depende das propriedades dos solos, a validação do modelo foi realizada, utilizando dois valores-limite fisicamente representativos. Para a aplicação do modelo, os parâmetros de forma da curva de retenção da água no solo foram escolhidos de maneira a se obter o modelo de van Genuchten. Com a finalidade de obter fórmulas algébricas da condutividade hidráulica, foram impostas relações entre seus parâmetros de forma. A comparação dos resultados obtidos com o modelo da condutividade e a curva experimental da condutividade dos dois solos, Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo e Argissolo Amarelo, permitiu concluir que o modelo proposto é simples em sua utilização e é capaz de predizer satisfatoriamente a condutividade hidráulica dos solos não saturados.

From a conceptual model based on fractal geometry and Laplace's and Poiseuille's laws, a versatile and general fractal model for the hydraulic conductivity to be used in the soils was developed. The soil-moisture retention curve is derived from a power model. Due to the fact that the proposed model of hydraulic conductivity introduces a still unknown interpolation parameter, which in turn is a function of soil properties, its limiting values were considered for the analysis. To apply the model in the soil, the form parameters of the soil-moisture retention curve were chosen so as to reproduce van Genuchten's equation. In order to obtain a closed-form equation for the hydraulic conductivity, relationships between the form parameters were imposed. The comparison between the predicted and experimental hydraulic conductivity from two soils, Oxisol and Yellow Utilsol, demonstrated that the proposed model is flexible and that it can be used to predict the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity of soils with good accuracy.
