RESUMEN Introducción: Los procesos de extracción de minerales y actividades afines a la minería implican la exposición a altos niveles de ruido lo cual puede generar un deterioro en la capacidad auditiva, esta situación representa tambien un problema para los trabajadores de las empresas contratistas de las mineras que debe ser tratado. Objetivo: Determinar el grado de pérdida auditiva en el personal que trabaja en empresas contratistas de mineras peruanas 2018 al 2019. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal, en una muestra de 213 trabajadores de las empresas contratistas mineras que fueron evaluados con la ficha de audiometría en el periodo 2018 al 2019, los trabajadores fueron seleccionados a partir de un muestreo al azar. Se incluyeron pacientes con estudio de audiometría que estuvieron laborando en cualquiera de las empresas contratistas mineras. Se excluyeron del estudio a los trabajadores con sordera previa al ingreso laboral y a los que tuvieron infección en proceso en algún oído. Resultados: Se reportó que de los trabajadores con hipoacusia probable inducida por el ruido un 23,5 % son varones; un 79,2 % tienen edad entre 30 a 50 años; el 71,7 % son mantenedores y operarios; el 73 % pertenecen a los rubros empresariales de construcción, servicios mineros y mantenimiento; el 62,2 % tuvieron en promedio 4 a 5 horas de exposición por jornada; el 51 % tuvieron experiencia laboral de 11 a 20 años y el 75,5 % declaró usar protección auditiva. Conclusiones: Un 84 % presentó audiometría alterada y el 24,9 % hipoacusia neurosensorial (probable inducida por ruido).

ABSTRACT Introduction: The processes of mineral extraction and related mining activities involve exposure to high noise levels which can generate deterioration in hearing capacity; this situation represents a problem that must be treated. Objective: Determine the degree of hearing loss in personnel working in Peruvian mining contractor companies from 2018 to 2019. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out, in a sample of 213 workers from the mining contractor companies who were evaluated with the audiometry sheet in the period 2018 to 2019, the workers were selected from a random sample. Patients with an audiometry study who worked for one of the mining contractor companies were included. Workers with deafness prior to work entry and those with an ongoing infection in any ear were excluded from the study. Results: It was reported that 23.5% of the workers with probable noise-induced hearing loss were male; 79.2% were between 30 and 50 years of age; 71.7% were maintenance workers and operators; 73% belonged to the construction, mining services and maintenance sectors; 62.2% had an average of 4 to 5 hours of exposure per day; 51% had work experience of 11 to 20 years and 75.5% reported using hearing protection. Conclusions: 84% presented altered audiometry and 24.9% presented sensorineural hearing loss (probably induced by noise).

The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of mucositis and peri-implantitis associated with the use of two types of implants—conventional versus platform switching after one year of loading. A longitudinal study of 64 implants in 25 patients was performed. Clinical variables, such as clinical pocket depth and bleeding upon probing, plaque, mobility, gingival recession, clinical attachment loss, and radiographic bone loss, were analyzed. The case definition for peri-implantitis was established as pockets of ≥ 5 mm with bleeding and bone loss ≥ 2 mm. One year after implant loading, the prevalence of mucositis and peri-implantitis with conventional implants (CIs) was 81.2% and 15.6%, respectively. For platform switching implants (PSIs) the prevalence was 90% and 6.6%, respectively. These differences were not statistically significant (p = 0.5375). However, there was a trend towards a lower prevalence of peri-implantitis with platform switching Implants.

This study assessed the presence of tetracycline-resistant bacteria in five different grassland-based production systems dedicated to raising dairy cattle located in the Colombian Andes. Animal (ruminal fluid and feces) and environmental (soil and water) samples were evaluated, and resistant heterotrophic bacteria were found in rumen fluid, feces, soil, and runoff water samples. The resistant bacteria were isolated and identified based on the 16S rDNA region. Subsequently, they were evaluated for the presence of tet genes, which encode ribosomal protection proteins and membrane efflux pumps. The most frequent phyla detected were Firmicutes and Proteobacteria. The most common resistance genes found were tet(W), tet(Q), and tet(M). The nucleotide sequences of the genes showed no differences in bacteria isolated from environmental samples versus ruminal fluid and feces. This result suggests that the observed environmental resistance in the evaluated grasslands is the result of horizontal gene transfer from animals to the environment.

En este estudio se evaluó la presencia de reservorios ambientales y animales de bacterias resistentes a la oxitetraciclina (OTC) en cinco sistemas de producción extensivo dedicados a la cría de ganado lechero y localizados en el Altiplano Cundiboyacense. Los tamaños poblacionales de las bacterias heterótrofas resistentes, estimados en muestras ambientales (suelo y agua) y animales (líquido ruminal y estiérco) mediante técnicas de cultivo, fueron notables especialmente en muestras de líquido ruminal, estiércol, suelo y agua de escorrentía. Bacterias resistentes fueron aisladas, identificadas mediante la región 16S ADNr y evaluadas para la presencia de genes tet que confieren resistencia a la tetraciclina y que codifican para proteínas de protección ribosomal y proteínas membranales de eflujo. Los filos más comunes dentro de las 140 cepas aisladas fueron Firmicutes y Proteobacteria dentro de las cuales se encontraron géneros típicos tanto del ambiente como del tracto intestinal. Los genes de resistencia más comunes fueron tet(W), tet(Q) y tet(M) y la comparación entre sus secuencias no muestran diferencias entre genes de bacterias aisladas del ambiente y bacterias del tracto digestivo de los animales, lo que sugiere que los reservorios de resistencia en el ambiente son el resultado de la transferencia horizontal de genes desde las bacterias resistentes de los reservorios animales.
