RESUMO O presente texto tem como objetivos: apresentar o texto livre, proposto por Célestin Freinet, como instrumento pedagógico relevante no processo inicial de alfabetização das crianças; apontar para a fecunda interlocução de Freinet com Lev Vigotski, tendo em vista sua concepção de instrumento técnico e semiótico; analisar os processos de apropriação da escrita pelas crianças, tomando como base os registros de trabalho realizados durante os dois primeiros anos da escolarização, em uma escola municipal de ensino fundamental, cujo destaque foi o texto livre. Ressaltam-se ainda, nas análises, aspectos da mediação pedagógica ao mesmo tempo em que se procura dar visibilidade a percursos singulares vivenciados pelas crianças nas suas relações com os outros e com a escrita.

ABSTRACT This text aims to present the free text, proposed by Célestin Freinet, as a relevant educational tool in the initial process of children’s literacy; to discuss Lev Vigotski’s contributions on technical and semiotic instruments in the dialogue with Freinet pedagogy; to analyze children’s writing appropriation processes, based on the records of work carried out during the first two years of schooling, in a municipal elementary school, in which the free text is highlighted. In the analysis, aspects of pedagogical mediation are also emphasized, while seeking to give visibility to singular paths experienced by children in their relations with others and with writing.
