RESUMO Este experimento investigou os efeitos do número de demonstrações na aquisição de uma habilidade motora discreta. Setenta e quatro universitários, de ambos os sexos, participaram desse estudo. Os participantes observaram um modelo duas ou dez vezes. Na fase de aquisição, os participantes foram requisitados a lançar um dardo por meio de um movimento antero-posterior em um alvo circular até atingir um desempenho critério. Não foram identificadas diferenças na aprendizagem entre os grupos na análise do escore. Contudo, dez demonstrações estimularam melhor do que duas demonstrações no que diz respeito ao desempenho do padrão correto e ao número de sujeitos que atingiram o desempenho critério. Os resultados indicam um efeito similar de ambos os números de demonstrações no desempenho e aprenizagem do arremesso de dardo de salão e que ambas as condições estimularam a capacidade dos aprendizes de detectarem informações relevantes para desempenhar a tarefa.

ABSTRACT This experiment investigated the effect of number of visual demonstrations on the acquisition of discrete motor skill. Seventy-four college students of both sex participated in this study. The participants observed a visual model twice or ten times. In the acquisition phase, the participants were asked to throw a dart with postero-anterior movement into a circle target until reach a learning criterion. In transfer tests no difference between groups was found in the analysis of score. However, ten demonstrations were more effective than twice as regards performance of the correct pattern of movement and the number of subjects who reached the performance criterion. The results indicate a similar effect of the both number of demonstrations in the performance and dart throwing learning and both conditions influence subject’s capacity to detect relevant information to perform the task.

Este estudo investigou os efeitos da meta estabelecida no desempenho e aderência de indivíduos experientes. Foram realizadas três fases: pré-teste, prática e pós-teste. Treze atletas universitários (24.3±4.8 anos de idade) foram divididos em dois grupos onde realizaram arremessos de três metros do basquetebol: G10% - no qual 10% do desempenho do pré-teste foram acrescidos para o estabelecimento da meta, e G30%, no qual 30% foi acrescido para estabelecimento da meta. Após a última fase, os indivíduos responderam a um questionário de avaliação do comprometimento a meta. A expectativa era que o grupo com maior percentagem no estabelecimento da meta iria demonstrar piores resultados e menor comprometimento com a meta estabelecida devido a dificuldade imposta. As análises mostraram que apesar da melhora significativa de ambos os grupos, os diferentes percentuais no estabelecimento de metas foram similares na mudança do desempenho. Entretanto, o acréscimo de 10% ao desempenho no pré teste permitiu maior comprometimento com a meta.

The present study investigated the effects of goal setting in the performance and adherence to the goal in experienced individuals. The study design was composed of a pretest, practice and a posttest. Thirteen collegiate-athletes (24.3±4.8 years old) was divided into two groups to perform three-meter-shots of basketball: G10% - which 10% of the performance in the pretest was added for the goal setting - and G30%, which 30% was added for the goal setting. After the last trial in the posttest, the participants answered a questionnaire of goal adherence. The expectation was that the higher percentage group would have worse performance and fewer adherences to the goal because the set goal was too difficult to achieve. Although we observed an improvement in the performance of both groups, no differences were found between them in the pre and posttest. However, G10% group showed higher frequency of adherence to the set goal.

O propósito deste estudo foi comparar o tempo de reação entre atletas de Basquetebol (grupo Basquetebol), Ginástica Artística (grupo Ginástica) e não atletas (grupo controle). Os indivíduos foram avaliados no tempo de reação simples e de escolha através do instrumento MULTPSY 821 e Sistema de Testes de Viena, respectivamente. Os resultados indicaram somente diferença significativa entre os grupos na medida de tempo de reação simples. O grupo controle apresentou maior tempo de reação comparado aos outros grupos. Esses achados indicam que a prática de Basquetebol e Ginástica Artística pode melhorar o tempo de reação simples, que é uma capacidade perceptiva necessária em atividades diárias.

The purpose of this study was to compare the reaction time between Basketball players (group Basketball), Artistic Gymnastics (Gymnastics group) and non-athletes (control group). The subjects were evaluated in simple and choice reaction time through the instrument MULTPSY 821 and Viena Test System, respectively. The results showed only significant difference between groups in the measure of simple reaction time. The control group showed higher reaction time compared to other groups. These findings indicate that the practice of Basketball and Artistic Gymnastics can improve the reaction time which is a perceptual ability needed in daily living activities.

El propósito de este estudio fue comparar el tiempo de reacción entre los atletas de Baloncesto (grupo Baloncesto), atletas de la Gimnasia Artística (grupo Gimnasia) y los no deportistas (grupo control). Los sujetos fueron evaluados en el tiempo de reacción simple y la elección a través del instrumento MULTPSY 821 y sistema de análisis de Viena, respectivamente. Los resultados mostraron diferencias significativas sólo entre los grupos en la medida del tiempo de reacción simple. El grupo control presentó mayor tiempo de reacción en comparación con otros grupos. Estos resultados indican que la práctica del Baloncesto y la Gimnasia pueden mejorar el tiempo de reacción que es una capacidad perceptiva necesaria en las actividades diarias.

O objetivo do presente estudo foi analisar três diferentes estratégias de fornecer conhecimento de resultados (CR): autocontrolado, yoked pareado por tentativa e yoked pareado pela frequência média total de CR, na prática aleatória. A amostra foi constituída por 45 voluntários universitários, distribuídos em três grupos (n= 15 sujeitos). A tarefa consistiu em pressionar as teclas 2, 4, 8 e 6 do teclado numérico de um computador, em três diferentes tempos alvo (700, 900 e 1100 ms), praticados aleatoriamente. O experimento constou de fase de aquisição e testes de retenção e transferência atrasados. A análise dos dados foi realizada por meio da ANOVA e não foi constatada diferença significativa entre os grupos. Os resultados demonstraram que não houve efeito das frequências autocontroladas para a aprendizagem motora quando se utiliza a prática aleatória. Além disso, uma nova possibilidade de parear o grupo autocontrolado foi apresentada.

The purpose of this study was to examine three different strategies to provide knowledge of results (KR), yoked paired by trial and yoked paired by average of total frequency of KR in random practice. The sample was composed by 45 volunteers, distributed into three groups (n=15 subjects). The task consisted of press three keys, 2, 4, 8 and 6 in the numeric keypad of the computer in three different total time (700, 900 and 1100 ms) in random practice. The experiment consisted of acquisition phase and delay retention and transfer test. The data analysis was conducted by ANOVA and the results were not demonstrated difference between groups. The results showed no effect of self-controlled frequency of KR to the motor learning when using random practice. In addition, a new possibility to be used the yoked group was presented.

O objetivo deste artigo é realizar uma revisão de literatura sobre a demonstração, uma importante fonte de informação no processo de aquisição de habilidades motoras, buscando apresentar o estado da arte, os principais desafios e algumas perspectivas de pesquisa. A demonstração tem sido investigada sob diferentes bases teóricas. A primeira delas é a teoria de aprendizagem social de Bandura, na qual foram apresentadas proposições acerca de como a informação observada é processada pelo aprendiz. As pesquisas mais recentes têm procurado elucidar a natureza da informação observada e se fundamentam em duas abordagens teóricas: a motora e a da ação. Os resultados de pesquisas com base na teoria de Bandura mostram que, no ato da aprendizagem por observação, as características do modelo, do aprendiz, da demonstração e da habilidade motora potencializam diferentemente os subprocessos relacionados à formação de referência da ação. Já os estudos que têm investigado a natureza da informação apresentam avanços em ambas as abordagens teóricas, porém em ritmo lento. Para que novos avanços ocorram, sugere-se um intercâmbio metodológico entre as abordagens e a realização de investigações em que o aprendiz tenha maior controle sobre a solicitação e o uso da demonstração.

The aim of this study was to review the literature regarding demonstration as an important information source for the acquisition of motor skills. State of the art, main research challenges and some research perspectives are presented. Different theoretical bases have been used for the investigation of demonstration. The first is Bandura's social learning theory, in which proposals of how the observed information is processed by the learner are presented. Recent studies have tried to identify the nature of the observed information based on two theoretical models: motor and action approaches. Research findings based on Bandura's theory show that, during the process of observational learning, factors such as characteristics of the model, learner, demonstration, and motor skill differently affect the sub-processes related to the formation of the guide of action. On the other hand, studies investigating the nature of the information have shown advances in both theoretical approaches, but at a slower pace. For further developments to occur, we suggest a methodological exchange between the two theoretical approaches and investigations in which the learner has greater control over the request and use of demonstration.

A demonstração e prática mental são variáveis capazes de realçar a aprendizagem de habilidades motoras. O propósito deste ensaio foi apresentar conhecimentos empíricos produzidos nos estudos de demonstração e prática mental, assim como uma possível relação dessas variáveis no processo de aquisição de habilidades motoras. Os resultados dos estudos indicam que essas variáveis atuam similarmente no processo de representação mental da habilidade a ser aprendida. Assim, talvez a associação entre demonstração e prática mental possa representar uma estratégia interessante na aquisição de habilidades motoras.

Demonstration and mental practice are variables capable to enhance the learning of motor skills. The purpose of this study was to show the empirical knowledge produced on demonstration and mental practice studies, as well as, a possible relation between these variables effects in the acquisition of motor skills. The results of studies suggest that these variables act similarly in the process of mental representation of the skill, that will be learned. Thus, perhaps the association of demonstration and mental practice can provide an interesting strategy in the acquisition of motor skills.
