ABSTRACT. The use of a protected environment for vegetable seedling production has become one of the best alternatives to minimize the adverse micrometeorological effects of the external environment and guarantee quality and production throughout the year. Inside the protected environment, it is essential to study the physiological responses of plants to the wavelength, periodicity, intensity, and direction of light in the photosynthetic process. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different intensities of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) used as an extended photoperiod in a greenhouse on the production of basil seedlings. A completely randomized design, in a 2 × 4 factorial scheme, with four replications of 20 seedlings per plot was used. Two basil varieties, sweet basil (green color) and purple basil (purple color), were evaluated under three intensities of supplementary PAR, which were 375, 411, and 438 µmol m-2 s-1, and control, in the absence of supplementary PAR. The seedling height, stem diameter, shoot dry matter, root dry matter, total dry matter, leaf area, ratio between plant height and stem diameter, ratio between plant height and shoot dry matter, ratio between shoot dry matter and root dry matter, and Dickson quality index were evaluated. Results show that higher intensities of PAR used as an extended photoperiod favor the quality of basil seedlings produced in a protected environment.

ABSTRACT. This study aimed to evte the quality of Hevea brasiliensis seedlings, a GT1 clone, produced in protected environments in a variety of substrates. The treatments consisted of 13 substrates composed of combinations of cattle manure, soil from a ravine, medium vermiculite, superfine vermiculite and washed fine sand and two environments: a greenhouse with 50% shade using aluminized screen and a plant nursery with 50% shade using a Sombrite® screen. There were no replications of the environments; therefore, each one was considered an experiment. For each environment, a completely randomized experimental design with five replications was used to evaluate the substrates. Subsequently, the average squares of the residuals of individual variance analyses of these treatments (substrates) were evaluated, and because they did not exceed an approximate ratio of 7:1, a combined analysis of experiments was performed with Sisvar software. Two hundred eighty days after sowing, the dry weight, plant height, stem diameter, diameter at five centimeters above soil and the seedling quality indices were evaluated. Results indicated that substrates with a low amount of manure and sand and a high amount of vermiculite (S9 and S13) produced rubber tree seedlings of high-quality. The environment with greater radiation availability was better for the development of high-quality rubber tree seedlings.

RESUMO Os avanços tecnológicos, no atual contexto mundial, atingem todos os setores de produção, melhorando o cotidiano das pessoas, trazendo rapidez na informação e segurança do produto. O presente trabalho apresenta uma revisão de literatura do uso da interface Agricultura 4.0 em casas de vegetação e as melhorias que essas tecnologias trouxeram ao setor. Para o setor agropecuário, em especial a área de produção vegetal intensiva em ambientes protegidos, as tecnologias da Agricultura 4.0 são amplamente aplicadas diminuindo erros humanos e garantindo produtos de elevada qualidade. A modelagem matemática, os softwares, os medidores eletrônicos, a robótica, as decisões dos sistemas inteligentes em tempo real, o controle automático das atividades em todo ciclo de produção garante a segurança de produção intensiva nos sistemas de cultivo protegido e uma ambiência vegetal de precisão. A exatidão, precisão e desempenho da Agricultura 4.0 em estufas dependem, como em outros setores agrícolas, de uma melhor comunicação entre as plataformas digitais e também de uma internet estável para a programação das máquinas e operação nos sistemas de produção.

ABSTRACT Global technological advances can be applied to all production sectors to improve people’s daily lives, efficiently deliver information, and product safety. This study is a literature review of the use of the Agricultura 4.0 interface in greenhouses and the improvements that these technologies have made to the industry. For the agricultural sector, especially intensive plant production in protected environments, Agricultura 4.0 technologies are widely used to reduce human error and ensure high quality plant products. Mathematical modeling, computer software, electronic meters, robotics, intelligent real-time system decisions, and automatic activity control throughout the production cycle guarantees extreme production safety in protected cultivation systems and precision planting environments. The accuracy, precision, and performance of Agricultura 4.0 in greenhouses depends, as in others agricultural sectors, on improved communication between digital platforms as well as in stable Internet for machine programming and operation in the production systems.

ABSTRACT This research evaluated protected environment and substrates for jatoba seedling. Two protected environments were used: (i) black shading screen on the sides and roof; and, (ii) black shading screen on the sides and thermal-reflective aluminized screen on the roof. In each environment the following substrates formulated with cattle manure (M) and vermiculite (V) were tested: 100% M; 90% M + 10% V; 80% M + 20% V; 70% M + 30% V; 60% M +40% V; 50% M + 50% V; 40% M +60% V; 30% M + 70% V; 20% M + 80% V; 10% M + 90%V. The environment protected with black shading screen was more favorable for the formation of jatoba seedlings, resulting in seedlings with higher shoot height and root collar diameter and, therefore, higher quality. Recommendation is to use substrates containing up to 30% of cattle manure to produce high quality jatoba seedlings.

RESUMO O condicionamento em sementes é uma prática capaz de possibilitar maior expressão do potencial fisiológico das sementes. Esta técnica permite a sincronização e redução do tempo de germinação das sementes através da hidratação controlada. O objetivo foi avaliar o efeito do condicionamento fisiológico em sementes de Urochloa brizantha com diferentes fontes e concentrações de glicídios na qualidade fisiológica de sementes e desempenho inicial das plântulas. Anterior a aplicação do priming as sementes foram submetidas a escarificação química com ácido sulfúrico concentrado (H2SO4) por 5 minutos para remoção da dormência primária. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 3 x 6, constituído por condicionamento fisiológico utilizando três fontes de glicídios (glicose, sacarose e maltose) e seis concentrações (zero [controle em água], 2%, 5%, 10%, 15% e 20%), com quatro repetições. O condicionamento fisiológico utilizado foi via imersão direta por 2 horas a 25 ºC e, posteriormente a hidratação das sementes, foi realizada a secagem para a retomada da umidade de equilíbrio. Foi realizado teste de germinação, vigor, viabilidade das sementes e crescimento inicial de plântulas. A glicose como fonte de glicídio promoveu efeitos benéficos na germinação de sementes de U. brizantha cv. MG-5. O fornecimento de glicose nas concentrações de 2 e 5% pelo condicionamento fisiológico propiciaram incremento na fitomassa seca de plântulas.

ABSTRACT Seed priming is a practice for improving the expression of seed physiological potential. Such technique consists of synchronizing and reducing the time of seed germination by controlled hydration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of seed-priming with different sugar sources and concentrations on the physiological quality Urochloa brizantha seeds and initial seedling performance. Before treating, seeds were scarified chemically with concentrated sulphuric acid (H2SO4) for 5 minutes to overcome physical dormancy. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 3 x 6 factorial scheme consisting of priming using three sugar sources (glucose, sucrose, and maltose) and six concentrations (zero [water control], 2%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%), with four replicates. The seeds were primed by direct immersion for 2 hours at 25 ºC and, after hydration, they were dried for moisture equilibrium recovery. Seed germination, vigor, viability, and initial seedling growth were evaluated. The results showed that glucose was the source able to promote beneficial effects on the germination of U. brizantha cv. MG-5 seeds. Moreover, the supply of glucose at the concentrations of 2 and 5% for physiological conditioning increased seedling dry phytomass.

RESUMO O estresse abiótico influencia diretamente no desempenho das sementes, sendo que sementes com baixo vigor, sob condições adversas, tendem a apresentar menor velocidade e percentual de germinação. A hidratação controlada das sementes com agentes químicos pode expressar o máximo potencial fisiológico das mesmas, mesmo quando submetidas a condições de estresse. Objetivou-se avaliar o potencial fisiológico de sementes de milho hidratadas com diferentes agentes químicos e submetidas a estresse abiótico (estresse hídrico induzido por polietileno glicol, hipóxia, baixa temperatura e estresse salino após deterioração controlada). O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 5 x 2, sendo constituído por agentes químicos empregados na hidratação das sementes [testemunha - sem hidratação; controle com água; nitrato de cálcio (0.2%); aminoácido L-fenilalanina (0.05 %); aminoácido L-fenilalanina (0.5 %) + nitrato de cálcio (0.2 %)] e 2 lotes de sementes, com quatro repetições. A hidratação controlada com nitrato de cálcio propicia maior germinação e emergência de plântulas em condição de temperatura subótima, e sementes oriundas da deterioração controlada apresentam maior germinação com o uso de nitrato de cálcio mais fenilalanina na hidratação das sementes, independentemente do lote utilizado. De modo geral, a hidratação das sementes possibilitou maior expressão de vigor, mesmo que interação com os lotes tenha sido observada em algumas variáveis.

ABSTRACT Abiotic stress directly influences seed performance, so poor-vigor seeds under adverse conditions tend to show lower germination speed and rate. By controlling the hydration level of seeds (i.e., priming) with the addition of chemical agents, it is possible to elicit the maximum physiological potential of seeds, even under stress conditions. This study aimed to evaluate the priming effect of different chemical agents on the physiological potential of maize seeds under abiotic stress (polyethylene glycol induced water stress, hypoxia, low temperature and salt stress after controlled deterioration). The experimental design was completely randomized, in a 5 x 2 factorial scheme, consisting of different chemical agents used to hydrate the seeds [control without priming; control primed with water; calcium nitrate (0.2 %); amino acid L-phenylalanine (0.05 %); amino acid L-phenylalanine (0.5 %) + calcium nitrate (0.2 %)] and 2 seed lots, with four replicates. Priming with calcium nitrate lead to a greater germination and higher emergence rate of the seedlings under suboptimal temperature conditions, and seeds that underwent controlled deterioration showed greater germination levels with the use of calcium nitrate + phenylalanine in the priming process, regardless of the lot used. In general, seed priming allowed a greater expression of seed vigor, even though an interaction with lots was observed in some variables.

RESUMO O condicionamento fisiológico é uma alternativa para melhoria do desempenho de sementes que apresentam problemas de germinação, como é o caso das sementes de Urochloa brizantha. Objetivou-se estudar o período adequado de hidratação e agentes químicos empregados no condicionamento fisiológico, via imersão direta, na qualidade fisiológica e teor de carboidratos, em sementes de U. brizantha. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 3 x 4, com quatro repetições de cada tratamento, constituído por períodos de hidratação inferior, mediano e superior, na fase II da curva de absorção, e agentes empregados no condicionamento: água, giberelina, sacarose e antioxidante (riboflavina). Foram realizados testes de germinação e vigor, além de teor de carboidratos, nas sementes. Verificou-se que sementes hidratadas no período inferior apresentam maior potencial fisiológico. O condicionamento com giberelina propicia maior emergência de plântulas, e com sacarose maior teor de carboidratos.

ABSTRACT Priming is an alternative to improve the performance of seeds that have germination problems, such as Urochloa brizantha seeds. This study aimed at evaluating the appropriate hydration period and chemical agents used for priming, via direct immersion, in the physiological quality and carbohydrate content of U. brizantha seeds. The experimental design was completely randomized, in a 3 x 4 factorial arrangement, with four replicates of each treatment, consisting of lower, median and higher hydration periods, in the phase II of the absorption curve, and agents used for priming: water, gibberellin, sucrose and antioxidant (riboflavin). Germination and vigor tests were carried out, as well as carbohydrate contents determination, in the seeds. It was observed that seeds hydrated in the lower period show higher physiological potential. Priming with gibberellin provides a greater seedling emergence, and with sucrose higher carbohydrate contents.

RESUMO O estabelecimento da marcha de acúmulo de nutrientes permite definir a quantidade e a época mais adequada para seu fornecimento. A estimativa da extração de nutrientes pela parte aérea torna-se particularmente importante para espécies como o pinhão-manso, cultura para a qual ainda não existem resultados consistentes de trabalhos de calibração que permitam indicar doses de adubos a serem aplicadas. Com o objetivo de avaliar a marcha de acúmulo, a exportação e a ciclagem de nutrientes em plantas de pinhão-manso, conduziu-se um experimento a campo em Cassilândia, MS, por um período de 52 meses. Adotou-se o delineamento experimental inteiramente ao acaso, com quatro repetições e 15 tratamentos, correspondentes às épocas de avaliação. Verificou-se grande variação da quantidade de nutrientes acumulados nas folhas, por causa da senescência e da abscisão foliar nos períodos mais secos ou mais frios do ano. O acúmulo de nutrientes na parte aérea é relativamente baixo nos primeiros 22 meses. Para suprir a demanda, a adubação nos dois primeiros anos deve fornecer 40; 50; 50; 21; 16; 5; 0,7; 0,3; 4; 8 e 1 kg ha-1 de N, P2O5, K2O, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn, respectivamente. A partir do terceiro ano de cultivo, a adubação de cobertura deve visar à restituição de 40, 110, 55 e 3 kg ha-1 de N, P2O5, K2O e S, respectivamente. Para a reposição da quantidade de nutrientes exportados, deve-se fornecer mais 50, 100, 30 e 3 kg ha-1 de N, P2O5, K2O e S, respectivamente, por tonelada de grãos a ser produzida.

ABSTRACT The knowledge concerning nutrient accumulation rate allows defining the best amount and most appropriate time for its supply. Estimating nutrient amount in the aerial part of the plants is particularly important to species such as Jatropha curcas L., since there are no consistent calibration studies to indicate the amount of fertilizer to be applied. The objective of this study was to evaluate nutrient accumulation, export and cycling in Jatropha curcas. The experiment was carried out in Cassilândia, state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, during 52 months in a completely randomized design, with four replications and fifteen treatments, which consisted of different evaluation times. A large variation in the amount of nutrients accumulated in leaves was found due to senescence and leaf abscission in the driest and/or coldest period of the year. Nutrient accumulation in the aerial part is relatively low in the first 22 months. To meet Jatropha curcas requirements, fertilization during the first two years must provide 40; 50; 50; 21; 16; 5; 0.7; 0.3; 4; 8 and 1 kg ha-1 of N, P2O5, K2O, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn, respectively. From the third year of cultivation, topdressing fertilization should restitute 40, 110, 55 and 3 kg ha-1 of N, P2O5, K2O and S, respectively. To replace the exported amount of nutrients, it should be supplied more 50, 100, 30 and 3 kg ha-1 of N, P2O5, K2O and S, respectively, per ton of grain to be produced.

RESUMO. Nas pastagens do cerrado brasileiro a braquiária é uma forrageira amplamente utilizada. O objetivo da presente pesquisa foi avaliar o desempenho de sementes de Brachiaria brizantha cv. MG-5 mediante condicionamento fisiológico e stress a alta umidade e temperatura (antes e após o condicionamento). O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 2x5, constituído por exposição das sementes ao stress a alta umidade e temperatura (anterior e posterior ao condicionamento) e cinco tratamentos com condicionamento fisiológico [água, nitrato de potássio (KNO3) 0,2%, nitrato de cálcio Ca(NO3)2 0,2%, giberelina (GA3) 0,2% e glicose 10%], com quatro repetições. Foram realizados dois experimentos (Experimento I - em sementes com presença de escarificação química com H2SO4 e Experimento II - ausência de escarificação). O stress nas sementes foi proporcionado através do envelhecimento artificial (96h a 41ºC). O condicionamento foi realizado através da hidratação das sementes por imersão direta a 25ºC (2h). Posteriormente as sementes foram secas em estufas a 35ºC até retomada da umidade de equilíbrio higroscópico. Avaliaram-se a germinação e vigor das sementes. O condicionamento fisiológico com KNO3 e Ca(NO3)2 propiciam sementes com maior tolerância ao stress a alta umidade e temperatura, sendo eficiente na superação de dormência.

ABSTRACT. Palisade grass is a forage plant that is widely used in pasture cropping in the Brazilian savannah. The aim of this experiment was to evaluate palisade grass (Brachiaria brizantha cv. MG-5) seeds subjected to priming and stress at high humidity and temperature (before and after conditioning). The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2x5 factorial arrangement. Seeds were exposed to stress under high humidity and temperature (before and after conditioning) and five priming treatments [Water (Control), potassium nitrate (KNO3) at 0.2%, calcium nitrate Ca(NO3)2 at 0.2%, gibberellin (GA3) at 0.2% and glucose at 10%] with four replications. Two experiments were performed: Experiment I - seed with chemical scarification using H2SO4 and Experiment II - without scarification. The stress on the seed was applied using artificial aging at 41°C for 96 hours. Seed priming was accomplished by immersion at 25°C for 2 hours. Thereafter, the seeds were oven-dried at 35°C until they regained hygroscopic equilibrium. Seed germination and vigor were evaluated. Priming using KNO3 and Ca(NO3)2 produced seeds with high tolerance to stress under high temperature, and this process is efficient to overcome dormancy.

ResumoA pimenta é um fruto do gênero Capsicum, bastante utilizada na culinária como tempero. Objetivou-se com este trabalho verificar o efeito do condicionamento fisiológico em sementes de Capsicum frutescens, e sobre as mudas obtidas das sementes condicionadas. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 2x6, designado por: qualidade fisiológica das sementes (vigor acima e abaixo) e cinco agentes no condicionamento fisiológico (água, nitrato de potássio a 0,2%, nitrato de cálcio a 0,2%, giberelina GA3 a 200 ppm e antioxidante riboflavina a 25 ppm), e testemunha, com quatro repetições. Para obtenção das sementes com vigor abaixo foi realizado a deterioração a 42 °C por 24 horas. O método de condicionamento fisiológico empregado foi à hidratação entre papéis, pelo período de 20 horas à 25 ºC. Foram avaliados a germinação, o vigor das sementes e a qualidade de mudas. Sementes com vigor acima apresentam melhor expressão do potencial fisiológico em relação às de vigor abaixo. O condicionamento fisiológico propiciou maior velocidade de emergência. Sementes condicionadas produziram mudas com maior fitomassa seca.

AbstractPepperis a fruit of the genus Capsicum, widely used in cooking as a seasoning. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of priming in Capsicum frutescens seeds, and on the seedlings obtained from seeds conditioned. The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial scheme 2x6, referred to as: seed quality (above and below vigor) and five agents in priming (water, potassium nitrate at 0.2%, calcium nitrate at 0.2%, gibberellin GA3 at 200 ppm and antioxidant riboflavin at 25 ppm), and the control; with four replications. To obtain of seeds with smaller vigor minus the deterioration was performed at 42 °C for 24 hours. The employee priming method was to hydration between roles, by 20 hours at 25 ° C period. Germination and seed vigor were evaluated, as well as the emergence and seedling quality. Seeds with above vigor have better expression of the physiological potential in relation to the below vigor. The priming presented higher emergence rate. Primed seeds produced seedlings with higher dry matter.

RESUMOEste trabalho avaliou tecnologias de ambientes protegidos e substratos para a produção de mudas de Dipteryx alataVog. Foram utilizados dois ambientes protegidos: telado agrícola, fechamento em 90° graus, com tela preta nas laterais e aluminizada na cobertura, ambas de 50% de sombreamento; telado agrícola, fechamento em 45° graus, com tela preta nas laterais e cobertura, de 50% de sombreamento. Em cada ambiente foram testados substratos de mistura de esterco bovino (E) e vermiculita (V): 100% E + 0% V; 90% E + 10% V; 80% E + 20% V; 70% E + 30% V; 60% E + 40% V; 50% E + 50% V; 40% E + 60% V; 30% E + 70% V; 20% E + 80% V; 10% E + 90% V. O telado preto propiciou mudas de melhor qualidade e os substratos com baixas porcentagens de esterco (10, 20 e 30%) são os mais propícios para a formação de mudas de Dipteryx alataVog.

ABSTRACTThis study evaluated the technologies of protected environments and substrates for the production of Dipteryx alata Vog. seedlings. Two protected environments were used: agricultural screened, closing at 90 degrees, with black screen on the sides and aluminized screen on the cover, both with 50% shading; agricultural screened, closing at 45 degrees, with black screen on the sides and cover, both with 50% shading. In each environment, substrates composed of mixture of cattle manure (E) and vermiculite (V) at the following ratios were tested: 100% E + 0% V; 90% E + 10% V; 80% E + 20% V; 70% E + 30% V; 60% E + 40% V; 50% E + 50% V; 40% E + 60% V; 30% E + 70%; 20% E + 80% V; 10% E + 90% V. The black screen environment propitiates seedlings of better quality and the substrates with low percentages of cattle manure (10, 20 and 30%) are the most propitious for the formation of Dipteryx alata Vog. seedlings.

O crambe é uma leguminosa com alto potencial para produção de biodiesel, devido ao seu elevado teor de óleo nos grãos. Existe grande preocupação, quanto à manutenção da qualidade fisiológica da semente por tempo mais prolongado, por pequenos agricultores. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar o potencial fisiológico de sementes de crambe (Crambe abyssinica Hochst), cultivar FMS Brilhante, em função de diferentes tipos de embalagem e armazenamento. O trabalho foi desenvolvido no Laboratório de Análise de Sementes da Universidade Estadual de Mato Grosso do Sul, em Cassilândia (MS), entre 2010 e 2011. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 4x4, sendo constituído pela combinação de tipos de embalagem (testemunha, metálica, garrafa plástica tipo PET e caixa de isopor) e tempos de armazenamento (zero, três, seis e nove meses), com quatro repetições. A embalagem metálica proporcionou melhor preservação da qualidade fisiológica de sementes de crambe, enquanto, para o aumento do tempo de armazenamento, este efeito foi negativo.

Crambe is a leguminous plant with high potential for biodiesel production, due to its high grain oil content. Small farmers have great concern, regarding the maintenance of the seed physiologic quality for longer periods of time. This study aimed at evaluating the physiologic potential of crambe (Crambe abyssinica Hochst) seeds, FMS Brilhante cultivar, according to different kinds of packaging and storage. The study was carried out in the Seed Analysis Laboratory of the Universidade Estadual de Mato Grosso do Sul, in Cassilândia, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil, between 2010 and 2011. The experimental design was completely randomized, in a 4x4 factorial scheme, combining kinds of packaging (control, metal, plastic bottle and polystyrene box) and storage times (zero, three, six and nine months), with four replications. The metallic packaging provided a better preservation of the physiologic quality of crambe seeds, while, for the increase of storage time, a negative effect was observed.

A ervilha apresenta potencial para o cultivo de inverno, no Brasil, tendo grande importância, principalmente na alimentação humana, devido ao seu elevado teor proteico. Sua produtividade, no entanto, ainda é baixa, e são poucos os estudos que visam à melhoria da qualidade e produtividade de grãos de ervilha. Este trabalho objetivou estudar o efeito da adubação com nitrogênio e zinco, na qualidade química e produtividade de grãos de ervilha, cultivar Utrillo. O experimento foi realizado em Latossolo Vermelho distrófico argiloso, em Selvíria (MS), em 2005. O delineamento experimental utilizado em campo foi o de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 4x4, constituído por quatro doses de nitrogênio (0 kg ha-1, 60 kg ha-1, 120 kg ha-1 e 240 kg ha-1), na forma de ureia, via solo, aos 30 dias após a semeadura (DAS), e quatro doses de zinco (0 kg ha-1, 1,5 kg ha-1, 3 kg ha-1 e 6 kg ha-1), na forma de sulfato de zinco, via foliar, aos 45 DAS, totalizando dezesseis tratamentos, com três repetições. A combinação entre doses de zinco e nitrogênio proporcionou melhoraria na qualidade química dos grãos. O zinco não apresentou efeito na produtividade de grãos, entretanto, elevadas doses de nitrogênio influenciaram, negativamente, na produtividade.

Peas present a potential to be cultivated in the winter, in Brazil, and also a great importance, especially in human feeding, due to its high protein content. However, its yield is still low and there are just a few studies aiming at improving pea grains quality and yield. This study aimed at evaluating the nitrogen and zinc fertilization effect on the pea grains (Utrillo cultivar) chemical quality and yield. The experiment was carried out in a dystrophic clayey Latosol-Haplustox, in Selvíria, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil, in 2005. A randomized blocks design was used, in a 4x4 factorial scheme, totaling 16 treatments and 3 replications, including four nitrogen doses (0 kg ha-1, 60 kg ha-1, 120 kg ha-1, and 240 kg ha-1), as urea, via ground, at 30 days after sowing (DAS), and four zinc doses (0 kg ha-1, 1,5 kg ha-1, 3 kg ha-1, and 6 kg ha-1), as zinc sulphate, via leaf, at 45 DAS. The combination of zinc and nitrogen doses improved the grains chemical quality. Zinc had no effect on grain yield, however, high nitrogen doses negatively affected yield.

Na cultura do arroz, o manejo inadequado do solo pode ocasionar compactação superficial e subsuperficial que, ao limitar o desenvolvimento radicular e o armazenamento de água, compromete o crescimento e a produtividade das plantas. O trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito do manejo do solo e da água nas propriedades físicas de um Latossolo Vermelho Distrófico no cultivo do arroz de terras altas. O experimento foi instalado no município de Selvíria (MS), no ano agrícola de 2003/2004, em área anteriormente ocupada com a cultura do milheto. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 3 x 3, constituído de três manejos do solo (escarificador + grade niveladora, grade pesada + grade niveladora e semeadura direta) e três manejos da água (sem irrigação; irrigação nas fases reprodutiva e de maturação; irrigação em todas as fases), com quatro repetições. Analisaram-se macroporosidade, microporosidade, porosidade total, densidade do solo, resistência à penetração do solo, umidade do solo, condutividade hidráulica do solo saturado e infiltração de água. O preparo do solo com escarificador propiciou maior macroporosidade e porosidade total, e menor densidade do solo e resistência à penetração na camada de 0,00 a 0,20 m, resultados opostos aos obtidos com o preparo com grade pesada; o preparo com grade proporcionou a formação de camada compactada (0,10 a 0,20 m). A semeadura direta obteve menor macroporosidade e porosidade total, além de maior resistência à penetração e densidade do solo nos primeiros 0,10 m. Pelos resultados, pode-se concluir que as propriedades físicas do solo foram influenciadas pelo seu manejo, entretanto não foram afetadas pelo manejo da água. O manejo do solo com escarificador resultou em melhores condições físicas para o desenvolvimento da cultura do arroz.

For rice crops, the inadequate soil management can lead to superficial and sub-superficial compaction which, by limiting root development and water retention, limits crop growth and yield. This study was aimed at evaluating the soil and water management effect on the physical properties of an Oxisol under non-flooded rice. The experiment was carried out at Selvíria (MS), in the growing season of 2003/2004, in an area which had previously been under millet crop. A randomized complete block design was used in a 3 x 3 factorial scheme, based on three different soil managements (chisel plow + levelling harrow, harrow + levelling harrow and no-tillage) and three different water managements (not irrigated; irrigated during the reproductive and ripening stages; irrigated during all the stages), with 4 replications. Macroporosity, microporosity, total porosity, soil bulk density, soil penetration resistance, soil moisture content, hydraulic conductive of the saturated soil and water infiltration were analysed. Soil tillage with chisel plow produced greater macroporosity and total porosity, and lower soil bulk density and soil penetration resistance in the 0.00 to 0.20 m layer, opposite results obtained with harrow tillage. Harrow tillage formed a compacted layer at the depth of (0.10-0.20 m). Smaller macroporosity and total porosity was found in no-tillage together with greater soil penetration resistance and soil bulk density, all in the first 0.10 m. Soil physical properties were influenced by soil management, but not influenced by water management. The soil management with chisel plow showed better results concerning the soil physical properties for the development of rice.

Atualmente, no cenário nacional, a cultura da soja em plantio direto é muito utilizada na integração agricultura-pecuária. No ano agrícola de 2006/2007, no município de Selvíria (MS), entre as latitudes de 20 ° 18 ' 05 " S e 20 ° 18 ' 28 " S e as longitudes de 52 ° 39 ' 02 " W e 52 ° 40 ' 28 " W, foi analisada a produtividade da soja, em plantio direto, em função de alguns atributos físicos de um Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico. O objetivo foi selecionar, entre os atributos do solo pesquisados, aquele que melhor se apresentasse para explicar a variabilidade espacial da produtividade agrícola. Para isso, foi instalada a malha geoestatística para a coleta dos dados do solo e da planta, contendo 120 pontos amostrais, numa área de 4.068 m² e declive homogêneo de 0,025 m m-1. Do ponto de vista linear e espacial, a elevada produtividade de grãos de soja pôde ser explicada em função da densidade do solo e da umidade volumétrica. A baixa variabilidade da maioria dos atributos do solo indicou que o plantio direto é um sistema que proporciona a homogeneização do ambiente físico do solo.

Nowadays no-tillage soybean is widely used in crop-livestock farming systems in Brazil. The yield of no-tillage soybean was analysed in the county of Selvíria (latitudes from 20 ° 18 ' 05 " S and 20 ° 18 ' 28 " S and the longitudes de 52 ° 39 ' 02 " W and 52 ° 40 ' 28 " W (Mato Grosso do Sul State - Brazil), in the 2006/07 growing season, as affected by some physical properties of a local Typic Acrustox. The objective was to determine the soil property that could best explain the variability in the agricultural productivity. For this purpose, a geostatistical grid with 120 sampling points was installed to collect soil and plant data in an area of 4,068 m², on a homogeneous slope of 0.025 m m-1. From the linear and spatial point of view, the high soybean grain yield could be explained by bulk density and volumetric moisture. The low variability of most soil properties indicated no-tillage as a system that induces homogenization of the soil physical environment.
