The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of bio-oil (obtained by pyrolysis of biomass: soybean oil, eucalyptus sawdust and coffee grounds) added to the blend B10 (diesel and biodiesel). The bio-oil is compatible to diesel oil and it contains promising compounds that can exhibit antimicrobial activity during fuel storage. We evaluated the antimicrobial activity of bio-oil added to diesel oil B10 by determining the minimum inhibitory concentration at different concentrations (0-10%) using oil-deteriorating microorganisms for 10 days at 30 °C. Bio-oil was separated from the aqueous phase by solid phase extraction using ultrapure water and sodium hydroxide. The aqueous phase containing the solubilized compounds of bio-oil was characterized by comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography with time-of-flight mass spectrometric detection. Minimum inhibitory concentration in the range of 0.25% to 4% was observed for the tested inocula. The chromatographic analysis of both extracts allowed the identification of several oxygenated compounds, which the majority of the analytes consisted of phenolic compounds, followed by ketones.

A redução do Cr(VI) para Cr(III) diminui a toxidade deste metal no ambiente, uma vez que o Cr(III) é insolúvel às membranas biológicas. Assim, a redução microbiana do Cr(VI) é uma alternativa para reduzir os impactos ambientais causados por este metal, utilizado em diversos processos industriais. O objetivo deste trabalho foi selecionar microrganismos a partir de solo contaminado com cromo e caracterizar sua capacidade de redução do Cr(VI) durante o crescimento celular. A atividade de redução do Cr(VI) pelos isolados foi quantificada com o reagente de s-difenilcarbazida. No isolamento, foram obtidas 20 bactérias resistentes a cromo(VI); seis destas foram capazes de reduzir acima de 100mg L-1 Cr(VI) em 24 horas. As bactérias selecionadas foram eficientes na redução do Cr(VI) e apresentam potencial para outros estudos, visando à aplicação em processos de biorremediação.

The reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) decrease the toxic effect of this metal in the environment, because Cr(III) is insoluble to the biological membranes. The microbial reduction of Cr(VI) it is an alternative to reduce the environmental impacts caused by this metal used in several industrial processes. The objective of this research was to select microorganisms from chromium contaminated soil and to characterize their ability to reduce Cr(VI). The activity of reduction of Cr(VI) for the isolated was quantified with s-diphenylcarbazide. A group of 20 chromium resistant bacteria were isolated; six of these were able to reduce 100mg L-1 Cr(VI) in 24 hours. The isolated bacteria, from contaminated soil can remediate chromate and presented potential for other studies seeking their application in bioremediation processes.

Avaliou-se a degradação de hidrocarbonetos de petróleo (HP) em solos contaminados com óleo diesel através da atenuação natural, bioestimulação e bioaumentação. A bioaumentação apresentou a maior degradação da fração leve (72,6%) e da fração pesada (75,2%) de HP e a atenuação natural foi mais efetiva do que a bioestimulação. A maior atividade da dehidrogenase no solo Long Beach e Hong Kong foi observada nos tratamentos bioaumentação e atenuação natural, respectivamente. O número de microrganismos degradadores de diesel e a população de heterotróficos não foi influenciada pelas técnicas de biorremediação. A melhor performance para a biorremediação do solo contaminado com diesel foi obtida quando foram adicionados microrganismos pré-selecionados do ambiente contaminado.

Were evaluated natural attenuation, biostimulation and bioaugmentation on the degradation of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) in soils contaminated with diesel oil. Bioaugmentation showed the greatest degradation in the light (C12 - C23) fractions (72.7%) and heavy (C23 - C40) fractions of TPH (75.2%) and natural attenuation was more effective than biostimulation. The greatest dehydrogenase activity was observed upon bioaugmentation of the Long Beach soil (3.3-fold) and the natural attenuation of the Hong Kong soil sample (4.0-fold). The number of diesel oil degrading microorganisms and heterotrophic population was not influenced by the bioremediation treatments. The best approach for bioremediation of soil contaminated with diesel oil is the inoculum of microorganisms pre-selected from their own environment.
