Resumo O avanço e intensificação de atividades industriais e mineradoras tem gerado uma série de impactos sobre ecossistemas naturais, combinados ao uso inadequados de agroquímicos e o descarte errôneo de produtos eletrônicos, contribuem para contaminação de solos com uma diversidade de elementos químicos, entre eles os metais pesados. Devido a isto, este trabalho teve o objetivo de avaliar a o efeito das dosagens crescentes de níquel na anatomia, bioquímica e sistema oxidativo do mogno brasileiro (Swietenia macrophylla), espécie florestal da Amazônia, buscando indicar o potencial de uso desta espécie em programas de fitorremediação de solos contaminados com metais pesados. As sementes foram cultivadas sob temperatura constante de 28°C, umidade relativa do ar (UR) de 90% com fotoperíodo de 12h por 43 dias. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi blocos casualizados (DBC), com cinco tratamentos (0, 2, 4, 6 e 8 mg.L-1 de Níquel), com seis repetições. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância (ANOVA) e as médias foram testadas para diferenças significativas pelo teste Tukey a 5% de significância. Foi observado mudanças na anatomia dos diferentes órgãos, com diferenças nas células da região central da folha, no caule e na raiz. A concentração de carboidratos totais não teve diferenças estatísticas com a aplicação do níquel, porém foi observado mudanças nos pigmentos fotossintéticos, açúcares redutores e sacarose como forma adaptativa ao níquel. O aumento das dosagens de níquel foi acompanhado pela síntese de amônio, aminoácidos e prolina na raiz, em contra partida diminui-se a síntese de glicina. Já na folha, houve o aumento dos aminoácidos com o aumento do metal, acompanhado da diminuição de glicina. O sistema de defesa antioxidante de plantas foi eficiente para atenuar os efeitos tóxicos das EROs, com ações significativas das enzimas CAT e SOD na raiz, enquanto na folha teve ação principal da APX e CAT. Abstract The advancement and intensification of industrial and mining activities has generated a series of impacts on natural ecosystems, combined with the inappropriate use of agrochemicals and the erroneous disposal of electronic products, contributing to soil contamination with a diversity of chemical elements, including heavy metals. Due to this, this work aimed to evaluate the effect of increasing dosages of nickel on the anatomy, biochemistry and oxidative system of Brazilian mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla), a forest species from the Amazon, seeking to indicate the potential use of this species in phytoremediation programs. of soils contaminated with heavy metals. The seeds were grown under a constant temperature of 28°C, relative humidity (RH) of 90% with a 12-hour photoperiod for 43 days. The experimental design used was randomized blocks (DBC), with five treatments (0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 mg.L-1 of Nickel), with six replications. Data were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and means were tested for significant differences using the Tukey test at 5% significance. Changes in the anatomy of the different organs were observed, with differences in the cells in the central region of the leaf, the stem and the root. The concentration of total carbohydrates had no statistical differences with the application of nickel, however changes were observed in photosynthetic pigments, reducing sugars and sucrose as an adaptive form to nickel. The increase in nickel dosages was accompanied by the synthesis of ammonium, amino acids and proline in the root, while the synthesis of glycine was reduced. In the leaf, there was an increase in amino acids with an increase in metal, accompanied by a decrease in glycine. The plant antioxidant defense system was efficient in attenuating the toxic effects of ROS, with significant actions of CAT and SOD enzymes in the root, while the leaf had the main action of APX and CAT. ABSTRACT The curve of cumulative cases of individuals infected by COVID-19 shows similar growth to the logistic curve in the period referring to each epidemic “wave”, as each peak of active cases is called. Considering that in pandemic scenarios it is common to seek control measures based on previous experiences, in this paper we model the curve of cumulative cases through a logistic model with infected removal to include the control measures in the dynamics. This model is based on fractional differential equations to also include the memory effect. We study the scenario of the first two “waves” in the analyzed countries: Brazil, China, Italy, and Switzerland. Scenarios with and without control measures are compared, proving the importance of control measures such as isolation. Moreover, this model makes it possible to determine the portion of the population that did not participate in the dynamics of the spread of the disease, as well as to analyze how the number of infected people reduced in each country. ABSTRACT Treatment with antiviral drugs for human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection causes a rapid reduction in plasma viral load. We present a mathematical model that not only considers the intracellular phase of the viral life cycle, defined as the time between the infection of a cell and the production of new viral particles, but we also consider that this parameter together with the virus decay are interactive fuzzy numbers.

Abstract This work proposed to incorporate the sugarcane bagasse ash (SBA) with a high content of organic matter (loss on ignition of 35.87%) in alkali-activated mixtures with blast furnace slag. After grinding SBA, replacement ratios of 10%, 20%, and 30% of the ground ash were used for the flowability evaluation. The mixtures containing 20% and 30% showed a dry consistency, then only the mixture with 10% of slag was used for the other tests. The use of an air-entraining admixture led to an improvement in the flowability of the alkali-activated mixtures. X-ray diffraction results showed that both SBA and the air-entraining admixture did not interfere in the mineralogical composition of the hydrated products. However, the use of SBA led to a decrease in the compressive strength of about 20% to 28%. In conclusion, SBA proved to be viable for use in alkali-activated mixtures considering its effect on mechanical performance.

No presente trabalho, descreve-se a composição em betacianidinas (classe das betalaínas com pigmentação vermelha-roxo) da perpétua roxa (Gomphrena globosa L.), de forma a destacar esta planta como fonte alternativa de corantes naturais. A análise foi feita por cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência acoplada a um detetor de fotodíodos e espetrometria de massa com ionização por dispersão de eletrões (HPLC-PDA-MS/ESI), após extração com diferentes solventes (infusão com água e maceração com água: metanol, 80:20, v/v).

In this paper, it is described the betacyanins composition (class of betalain with red-purple pigmentation) of globe amaranth (Gomphrena globosa L.) in order to highlight this plant as an alternative source of natural dyes. The analysis was performed by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with a photodiode array detector and mass spectrometry with electron spray ionization (HPLC-PDA-MS/ESI) after extraction with different solvents (infusion with water and maceration with water: methanol, 80:20, v/v).

RESUMEN INTRODUCCION La histerectomía obstétrica es procedimiento de urgencia para resolver una situación grave, su incidencia es de 5 a 15 por cada 1000 eventos obstétricos OBJETIVO GENERAL Determinar la frecuencia y factores asociados a la histerectomía obstétrica en un hospital de segundo nivel en México. METODOLOGIA Estudio descriptivo, transversal y retrospectivo en el periodo de Enero de 2014 a Diciembre del 2016, se incluyeron todos los casos de histerectomía posterior a un evento obstétrico, se estudiaron: edad, paridad, vía de interrupción del embarazo, antecedente de cesárea previa, indicaciones y complicaciones de la histerectomía, ingreso al servicio de terapia intensiva y mortalidad, el análisis se realizó con estadística descriptiva. RESULTADOS Durante el periodo de estudio, se atendieron 37 308 eventos obstétricos, efectuándose histerectomía obstétrica a 153 pacientes que representan el 0.57%, es decir, una HO por cada 243 embarazos. La edad promedio de quienes se les efectuó la histerectomía fue de 34 años de edad, siendo más frecuente en el grupo de mayores de 35 años, que habían tenido dos o tres embarazos previos. El antecedente de cesárea previa fue del 69.2%. La vía de interrupción del embarazo actual fue de cesárea en el 72.1%. La principal indicación fue la atonía uterina en 51 casos (33.3%). La complicación más frecuente fue la anemia aguda en el 83%. Hubo 1 muerte materna (0.6%). CONCLUSIONES La Histerectomía obstétrica es una cirugía de urgencia, por lo que se deben de identificar durante el control prenatal los factores asociados a las principales indicaciones de esta complicación.

Este trabalho é parte de uma investigação sobre o potencial citotóxico e genotóxico da água do Rio Paraíba do Sul (Brasil) utilizando raízes de Allium cepa. Foi analisado um parâmetro anátomo-morfológico (crescimento das raízes), bem como o índice mitótico e a frequência de micronúcleos. Aleatoriamente oito bulbos foram submetidos aos tratamentos de 24 a 120 horas com água do Rio proveniente dos pontos de coleta das cidades de Tremembé e Aparecida nos anos de 2005 e 2006. O comprimento das raízes de cada bulbo foi acompanhado diariamente ao longo do experimento. O índice mitótico (IM) e a frequência de micronúcleos (MN) foram determinados pela análise de 2.000 células por raiz, sendo utilizadas 3-5 raízes de outros bulbos (7-10). Somente as raízes tratadas com amostras de água coletadas em 2005 na cidade de Tremembé, apresentaram decréscimo no comprimento das raízes quando comparadas com o controle. Entretanto, foi observada redução do IM nas raízes tratadas com água de ambos os pontos de coleta no mesmo ano. Considerando os dados de crescimento de raiz e especialmente IM, um potencial citotóxico é sugerido para a água do Rio Paraíba do Sul em Tremembé e Aparecida, no ano de 2005. Por outro lado, para este mesmo ano, a frequência de micronúcleos não foi alterada; assim, a genotoxicidade não foi assumida para a água do Rio nos pontos mencionados.

This work investigated the cytotoxic and genotoxic potential of water from the River Paraíba do Sul (Brazil) using Allium cepa roots. An anatomo-morphological parameter (root length), mitotic indices, and frequency of micronuclei were analysed. Eight bulbs were chosen at random for treatment for 24 to 120 hours with the River water collected in the years of 2005 and 2006 from sites in the cities of Tremembé and Aparecida (São Paulo state, Brazil). Daily measurements of the length of the roots grown from each bulb were carried out throughout the experiment. Mitotic index (MI) and frequency of micronuclei (MN) were determined for 2000 cells per root, using 3-5 root tips from other bulbs (7-10). Only in the roots treated with samples of the River water collected in 2005 in Tremembé city was there a decrease in the root length growth compared to the respective control. However, a reduction in MI values was verified for both sites analysed for that year. Considering the data involving root length growth and especially MI values, a cytotoxic potential is suggested for the water of the River Paraíba do Sul at Tremembé and Aparecida, in the year of 2005. On the other hand, since in this year the MN frequency was not affected with the river water treatments, genotoxicity is not assumed for the river water sampled at the aforementioned places.
