Resumo Orchidaceae é uma família botânica megadiversa no Brasil, principalmente na Mata Atlântica, onde constitui um grupo prioritário para a conservação. O Parque Nacional do Itatiaia (PARNA Itatiaia) foi a primeira Unidade de Conservação brasileira e representa um remanescente grande e maduro de Mata Atlântica. Dados atualizados sobre riqueza, distribuição e conservação da subtribo ornamental e neotropical Laeliinae no parque foram recentemente divulgados e revelaram a ocorrência de espécies presumivelmente extintas localmente, mas sem uma abordagem taxonômica. Por isso, apresentamos um tratamento taxonômico abrangente de Laeliinae no PARNA Itatiaia. A subtribo está representada por seis gêneros e 33 espécies, correspondendo a cerca de 15% da flora orquidológica do PARNA Itatiaia. Epidendrum é o gênero mais numeroso, com 20 espécies, seguido por Cattleya (6 spp.) e Prosthechea (4 spp.). As espécies de Laeliinae crescem em habitats sombreados e úmidos, especialmente perto de rios, e a 750-1.200 m de altitude, com a riqueza de espécies diminuindo com a elevação. Várias espécies formam populações pequenas (geralmente < 10 indivíduos) e requerem ações de conservação imediatas para evitar a extinção local. Amostras de Laeliinae do PARNA Itatiaia foram consideradas escassas nos herbários consultados. Características morfológicas variáveis, principalmente do labelo, permitem a distinção das espécies de Laeliinae.

Abstract Orchidaceae is a megadiverse botanical family in Brazil, particularly in the Atlantic Forest where it is a priority group for conservation. Parque Nacional do Itatiaia (PARNA Itatiaia) was the first conservation unit established in Brazil, and represents a large and mature remnant of Atlantic Forest. Updated data on richness, distribution and conservation of the Neotropical and ornamental subtribe Laeliinae in the park recently disclosed the occurrence of presumed locally extinct species, but without a taxonomic approach. Thus, we present a comprehensive taxonomic treatment of Laeliinae in the PARNA Itatiaia. The subtribe is represented by six genera and 33 species, which corresponds to about 15% of the orchid flora of PARNA Itatiaia. Epidendrum is the richest genus, with 20 species, followed by Cattleya (6 spp.) and Prosthechea (4 spp.). Species of Laeliinae grow in shady and humid habitats, especially near rivers, at elevations ranging 750-1,200 m, with species richness decreasing with elevation. Several species form small populations (commonly < 10 individuals), which are in need of prompt conservation actions to avoid local extinction. Samples of Laeliinae from PARNA Itatiaia in collections of consulted herbaria were found to be scarce. Variable morphological characteristics, mainly of the lip, distinguishe species of Laeliinae.

Resumo Peltaea chiquitana tem sido um nome de identidade duvidosa devido à descrição original incompleta e aos materiais originais não possuírem frutos. Estudos recentes de herbários e trabalhos de campo realizados trouxeram novos dados sobre essa espécie. Assim, apresentamos uma redescrição de P. chiquitana, incluindo a coluna, fruto e semente pela primeira vez. A extensão da distribuição geográfica de P. chiquitana é apresentada com base nos primeiros registros para o Brasil. Além disso, são apresentadas ilustrações, microscopia eletrônica de varredura, mapa de distribuição e estado de conservação.

Abstract Peltaea chiquitana has been a name of dubious identity due to the incomplete original description and original materials lacking fruits. Recent herbaria and field work studies have uncovered new data for this species. Thus, we present a redescription of P. chiquitana, including, for the first time, details of column, fruit, and seed morphology. An extended geographical distribution of P. chiquitana is presented, based on the first records of the species to Brazil. Furthermore, line drawings, scanning electronic microscope photographs, a distribution map, and a conservation assessment are presented here.

SUMMARY Short bowel syndrome (SBS) is the leading cause of intestinal failure in children, a condition of absence of sufficient bowel to meet the nutritional and metabolic needs of a growing individual. The treatment of patients in this situation is based on the association of parenteral and enteral nutrition for prolonged periods of time until intestinal rehabilitation occurs with complete enteral nutrition autonomy. Six consecutive cases of children with SBS (residual intestinal length of 5 cm to 75 cm) were managed with this program and were diagnosed with associated hypothyroidism during the treatment (ages at the diagnosis 5 months to 12 years). All patients were successfully treated with oral hormone reposition therapy and in one patient, the replacement was performed via rectal enemas due to a complete absence of small bowel. Although iodine deficiency associated to long-term parenteral nutrition is a well-known condition, this is the first report in the literature about an expressive number of patients with hypothyroidism detected in patients with SBS during the prolonged treatment for intestinal rehabilitation.

Abstract An efficient protocol for in vitro plant propagation of Cyrtopodium paludicolum has been developed using root tips dissected from well-developed seedlings. Root tips were cultured on Knudson medium supplemented with α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA), and/or thidiazuron (TDZ). TDZ did not induce protocorm-like bodies (PLBs) in the NAA absence, indicating phytoregulators synergistic effect. Medium supplemented with 1.34 μM NAA and 2.27 μM TDZ resulted in better response on PBLs, and subsequent shoot differentiation (55.25 shoots per explant), and in better rooting number and root length responses, favoring acclimatization with 90% of survived plants. However, the medium supplemented with only NAA (1.34 μM) resulted in 33.50 shoots per explant. Histological sections confirmed that only one PLB was induced per responsive root tip, and it showed numerous dispersed and extended meristemoids, or division centers that originated new PBLs. Additionally, this protocol could be an excellent model to study molecular aspects of root to shoot conversion.

Resumo A Serra do Ouro Branco demarca o limite sul da Cadeia do Espinhaço, em Minas Gerais, e está situada em uma zona de transição entre os domínios Atlântico e do Cerrado. O objetivo deste estudo foi realizar o levantamento florístico da família Orchidaceae na Serra do Ouro Branco, município de Ouro Branco, Minas Gerais, Brasil. Foram registrados 36 gêneros e 75 espécies para a área. Os gêneros mais representativos foram Habenaria (17 spp.), Cleistes (7 spp.), Acianthera e Epidendrum (6 spp. cada). A elevada riqueza de Orchidaceae em uma área relativamente pequena evidencia a importância florística da família em si e, também, a relevância ambiental da área de estudo. São apresentadas chaves de identificação, descrições, ilustrações esquemáticas das peças do perianto, e comentários sobre os gêneros e espécies.

Abstract The Serra do Ouro Branco delimitates the southern geographical boundary of the Espinhaço Range, in the state of Minas Gerais, and is located in a transition zone between the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado domains. This paper presents the floristic survey of the Orchidaceae from Serra do Ouro Branco, municipality of Ouro Branco, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. We recorded 36 genera and 75 species in the study area. The most representative genera were Habenaria (17 spp.), Cleistes (7 spp.), Acianthera and Epidendrum (6 spp. each). Such elevated richness in a relatively small area, highlights the floristic significance of Orchidaceae and the environmental relevance of the study area. Identification keys, morphological descriptions, schematic illustrations of the perianth, and comments of the genera and species are presented.

RESUMO A diversidade, abundância e estratificação vertical das epífitas vasculares foram estudadas na Estação Ecológica Barreiro Rico, área de floresta estacional semidecidual na região central de São Paulo, Brasil. Das 25 espécies encontradas (15 gêneros e seis famílias), as Angiospermas foram representadas por 20 espécies. e as samambaias por cinco. A diversidade de Shannon (H') foi de 2,77 nats. Os holoepífitos característicos (88%) foram predominantes na área, bem como as espécies com dispersão anemocórica (60%). Orchidaceae apresentou maior riqueza, no entanto também o maior número de espécies raras (Valor de Importância Epifítica < 1). As zonas de altura intermediárias apresentaram o maior número de espécies e de registros. A zona próxima ao solo e aquela mais externa no dossel foram dominadas por espécies com características distintas, melhor adaptadas aos ambientes sombreados ou de luminosidade extrema, respetivamente. A distribuição das espécies e das abundâncias indica uma comunidade epifítica relativamente simples, na qual atuam poucos fatores dominantes, sendo limitada por fatores microclimáticos.

ABSTRACT Diversity, abundance, and vertical stratification of vascular epiphytes were studied in the Barreiro Rico Ecological Station, a Semideciduous Seasonal Forest in São Paulo State, Brazil. Of the 25 species found (15 genera and six families), the Angiosperms were represented by 20 species and the ferns by five. The Shannon diversity (H') was 2.77 nats. The characteristic holoepiphytes are dominant in the area (88%) as well as the anemochoric species (60%). The orchid family showed the greatest richness, but also the rarest species (Epiphytic Importance Value < 1). The intermediate height zones had the highest number of species and records.The zones next to the ground and the outermost canopy were dominated by species with distinctive features, adapted to shaded environments or extreme luminosity respectively. The species distribution and abundance indicate a relatively simple epiphytic community influenced by few dominant factors and limited by microclimatic factors.

RESUMO Triphora possui ca. 19 espécies, oito das quais ocorrem no Brasil. Atualmente, a ocorrência de espécies do gênero é conhecida nos Estados do Amazonas, Minas Gerais, Pará, Rio Grande do Sul e São Paulo, bem como no Distrito Federal. Triphora amazonica ocorre na Flórida, Antilhas, Guianas e no Estado brasileiro do Amazonas. O primeiro registro de T. amazonica no Estado da Bahia é apresentado, expandindo a distribuição da espécie para o domínio da Floresta Atlântica. Estes são os primeiros registros de Triphora para a Região Nordeste do Brasil e para a Bahia.

ABSTRACT Triphora comprises ca. 19 species, eight of them occurring in Brazil. The genus is currently known in Brazil in the States of Amazonas, Minas Gerais, Pará, Rio Grande do Sul, and São Paulo, as well as in the Distrito Federal. Triphora amazonica is known from Florida, West Indies, Guianas and the Brazilian State of Amazonas. The first record of T. amazonica for Bahia State is presented, expanding the species distribution to the Atlantic Forest domain. This is the first record of the genus Triphora for Northeastern Brazil and for Bahia State.

Resumo A subtribo Goodyerinae é constituída por 32 gêneros e 744 espécies, ocorrendo tanto no Novo quanto no Velho Mundo. Está representada no Novo Mundo por três gêneros nativos, dois dos quais ocorrem no Brasil: Aspidogyne e Microchilus. No estado do Paraná foi constatada a ocorrência destes dois gêneros, com um total de 16 espécies nativas. Também foi registrada a ocorrência de Zeuxine strateumatica, espécie exótica invasora de origem asiática. Três espécies são consideradas criticamente em perigo (CR), sete em perigo (EN), três são vulneráveis (VU) e três não são consideradas em risco de extinção (LC). Aspidogyne schlechteriana é sinonimizada sob A. bidentifera e A. serripetala é restabelecida com táxon autonomo. São apresentados uma chave de identificação para as espécies, descrições morfológicas, comentários, estado de conservação e ilustrações dos táxons estudados.

Abstract The subtribe Goodyerinae comprises 32 genera and 744 species, occurring in both New and Old World. It is represented in the New World by three native genera, two of which occur in Brazil: Aspidogyne and Microchilus. In Paraná State, the reports indicated the occurence of these two genera, with a total of 16 native species. Was also recorded the occurrence of Zeuxine strateumatica, exotic invasive species of Asiatic origin. Three species are considered critically endangered (CR), seven are endangered (EN), three are vulnerable (VU) and three are not considered at risk of extinction (LC). Aspidogyne schlechteriana is synonymized under A. bidentifera and A. serripetala is restabliched with autonomous taxon. An artificial key to the species is presented, as well as morphological descriptions, comments, conservation status, and illustrations of the taxa studied.

RESUMO Bletia catenulata é uma orquídea nativa do Brasil, cujas populações têm sofrido coleta predatória. Objetivando conhecer aspectos da biologia reprodutiva e sua relação com a germinação de sementes, diferentes tipos de polinização foram realizados em flores de plantas cultivadas em estufa agrícola. A polinização cruzada e a autopolinização manuais resultaram em altos percentuais de frutificação (76,7-86,7 %), sendo de apenas 26,7 % na polinização natural, na qual a ausência de polinizadores, por isolamento das flores, resultou na ausência de frutos. A germinação in vitro de sementes de todos os frutos resultantes das diferentes polinizações foi baixa, sendo 8,6 % o maior valor percentual de protocormos obtidos. Portanto,B. catenulata é autocompatível, gerando sementes viáveis, mas dependente de polinizador para reprodução sexuada.

ABSTRACT Bletia catenulata is a native Brazilian orchid whose populations have suffered from predatory collection. Aiming at elucidating aspects of its reproductive biology and the relation with seed germination, pollination tests were carried out in flowers of plants cultivated in a greenhouse. Manual cross and self-pollination resulted in high percentage of fructification (76.7-86.7 %), being only 26.7 % for natural pollination, in which the absence of pollinators, due to flower isolation, resulted in absence of fruits. In vitro seed germination for all fruits from the different pollination processes was low, being 8.6 % the highest percentage for protocorms. Thus, B. catenulata is selfcompatible, resulting in viable seeds, but pollinator-dependent for sexual reproduction.

Orchidaceae é uma das maiores famílias das Angiospermas, sendo também uma das mais ricas e com mais alto grau de endemismo na Mata Atlântica, bioma que inclui a Floresta Ombrófila Mista e os Campos de Altitude, típicos da região de Campos do Jordão. Este trabalho teve como objetivo fazer um levantamento das espécies de Orchidaceae ocorrentes em quatro campos de altitude em uma Área de Proteção Ambiental pertencente ao Instituto Presbiteriano Mackenzie em Campos do Jordão, Estado de São Paulo, no bairro de Umuarama. Foram realizadas expedições mensais de 16 de fevereiro de 2013 até 15 de fevereiro de 2014. Foram coletadas, ao todo, 12 espécies pertencentes a nove gêneros, sendo que desses, os mais representativos foram Coppensia (três espécies) e Habenaria (duas espécies), os demais representados por apenas uma espécie. Foram observados muitos fatores que colocam em risco a integridade desses ambientes já tão pouco valorizados e estudados.

ABSTRACT Orchidaceae is one of the largest families of Angiosperms, also being one of the richest and with high degree of endemism in the Atlantic Forest, a biome that includes Mixed Rain Forest and Highland Fields, typical of Campos do Jordão. This study aimed to survey the Orchidaceae species present in four highland fields in an Area of Environmental Protection belonging to the Instituto Presbiteriano Mackenzie in Campos do Jordão, São Paulo State, in the district of Umuarama. Monthly expeditions were made from February 16, 2013 to February 15, 2014. In this period, 12 species belonging to nine genera of Orchidaceae were collected. The most representative genera were Coppensia (three species) and Habenaria (two species), being the remaining genera represented by only one species. Several factors that endanger the integrity of these environments were observed, despite these environments being so little valued and not studied enough.

Acianthera Scheidew. envolve cerca de 200 espécies de distribuição Neotropical; na mais recente sinopse taxonômica proposta para o gênero, Chiron & van den Berg criaram dez seções, dentre elas a Acianthera sect. Pleurobotryae, objeto deste estudo. A seção Pleurobotryae distingue-se das demais seções de Acianthera por possuir flores com labelo de articulação móvel, longamente unguiculado, aliado às folhas teretiformes ou lateralmente compressas, unidas a um cauloma filiforme; seus representantes encontram-se distribuidos preferencialmente no Sul e Sudeste do Brasil e Nordeste da Argentina. Neste trabalho é apresentada a revisão taxonômica da seção Pleurobotryae na qual são propostas três novas sinonímias e uma nova combinação. Das seis espécies anteriormente atribuídas a esta seção, somente quatro são aqui aceitas: Acianthera atropurpurea (Barb.Rodr.) Chiron & van den Berg, A. crepiniana (Cogn.) Chiron & van den Berg, A. hatschbachii (Schltr.) Chiron & van den Berg e A. mantiquyrana (Barb. Rodr.) V.T. Rodrigues & F. Barros.

ABSTRACT Acianthera Scheidew. comprises about 200 species with Neotropical distribution; in the most recent proposal of taxonomic synopsis for the genus, Chiron & van den Berg created 10 sections, among which Acianthera sect. Pleurobotryae, subject of this study. The section Pleurobotryae can be distinguished from other Acianthera sections by the long unguiculate lip with a mobile articulation, and the cylindrical to laterally flattened leaves, attached to a thread like cauloma. Their specimens are rather distributed in Southern and Southeastern Brazil and Northeastern Argentina. In this work a taxonomic study of the section Pleurobotryae is presented. Three new synonyms and a new combination are proposed for the group. Of the six species previously assigned to this section, only four are accepted here: Acianthera atropurpurea (Barb.Rodr.) Chiron & van den Berg, A. crepiniana (Cogn.) Chiron & van den Berg, A. hatschbachii (Schltr.) Chiron & van den Berg, and A. mantiquyrana (Barb.Rodr.) V.T. Rodrigues & F. Barros.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo desenvolver um estudo florístico da família Orchidaceae para o município de Jacobina, Chapada Diamantina, BA, Brasil. Foram realizadas cinco viagens de coleta (2011-2012) e visitas aos herbários ALCB, CEPEC, HRB, HUEFS, SP e SPF. Identificou-se 28 espécies distribuídas em 20 gêneros, sendo os com maior riqueza Epidendrum (cinco espécies) e Cyrtopodium (quatro espécies). Foram encontradas quatro novas ocorrências para a Chapada Diamantina (Aspidogyne argentea, Baptistonia nitida, Catasetum purum e Cyrtopodium holstii) e uma para o Estado da Bahia (Wullschlaegelia aphylla). Em análise comparada da flora de Orchidaceae entre localidades da Cadeia do Espinhaço, a partir de índice de Jaccard e análise de agrupamento (UPGMA), as localidades do Estado da Bahia formaram um grupo distinto das de Minas Gerais, e o município de Jacobina apresentou maior similaridade com o Morro do Chapéu (J = 0,24). Proximidade geográfica e fitofisionomia predominante são fatores que influenciaram o padrão de agrupamento encontrado. São apresentadas lista, chave de identificação e distribuição geográfica das espécies, bem como comentários taxonômicos e biológicos.

This paper aimed to develop a floristic survey of Orchidaceae for the municipality of Jacobina, Chapada Diamantina, Bahia State, Brazil. Samples were collected during five field trips (2011-2012) and the specimens from ALCB, CEPEC, HRB, HUEFS, SP, and SPF herbaria were analyzed. Twenty-eight species and 20 genera were found, with Epidendrum (five species) and Cyrtopodium (four species) being the richest genera. Four new records were recognized for Chapada Diamantina (Aspidogyne argentea, Baptistonia nitida, Catasetum purum and Cyrtopodium holstii) and one for Bahia State (Wullschlaegelia aphylla). Using Jaccard's index and UPGMA, the comparative analysis of the orchid floras among localities of the Espinhaço showed that the localities of Bahia State formed a distinct group from Minas Gerais State, and municipality of Jacobina presented greater similarity to Morro do Chapéu (J = 0.24). Geographic proximity and phytophysiognomy can be factors to explain the pattern of clustering. An identification key and geographic distribution of species, including taxonomic and biological comments are presented.

O presente estudo teve como objetivo inventariar as espécies de Orchidaceae ocorrentes no município de Caldas Novas. Para tanto, foram realizadas coletas mensais, durante o ano de 2008 (exceto entre setembro e novembro). Paralelamente aos trabalhos de campo foram realizados levantamentos nos herbários CEN, IBGE, UB e UFG. São apresentados chave de identificação, descrições morfológicas, comentários e ilustrações das espécies. Foram registrados 15 gêneros e 28 espécies de Orchidaceae na área. Os gêneros que apresentaram maior número de espécies foram Epidendrum e Habenaria (seis espécies cada), seguidos por Cleistes (três), e Cyrtopodium (duas). Cinco espécies listadas são novas ocorrências para Goiás, mostrando a necessidade de inventários florísticos no estado.

The aim of this study was to inventory the species of Orchidaceae occurring in Caldas Novas. We conducted monthly collections during 2008 (except from September to November). Parallel to the fieldwork, surveys were done in the herbaria CEN, IBGE, UB and UFG. We present an identification key, morphological descriptions, comments and illustrations of the species. We recorded 15 genera and 28 species of Orchidaceae in the area. The genera with more species were Epidendrum and Habenaria (six species each), followed by Cleistes (three), and Cyrtopodium (two). Five species are new records for the state of Goiás, showing that floristic inventories in the state are still needed.
