RESUMO O vimeiro (Salix x rubens) é uma planta lenhosa, de origem europeia, usada no Brasil para artesanato e movelaria. A cultura do vimeiro é eventualmente atacada por lagartas e formigas que causam a perda de área foliar. Este estudo objetivou avaliar o efeito de níveis de desfolha no crescimento do vimeiro. O experimento foi conduzido em uma estufa. As plantas foram mantidas em vasos com capacidade de 8 litros sob nebulização intermitente, de agosto a dezembro de 2004. O delineamento foi em blocos casualizados, com cinco repetições e quatro tratamentos (0, 25, 50 e 75% de desfolha do número total de folhas) avaliados quanto ao teor de açúcares redutores, área foliar e massa fresca e seca, caules e folhas. O desfolhamento (%) reduziu a massa (MH = -0,1067x + 19,03, R² = 0,98) e o diâmetro final das hastes (DH = -0,0114x + 5,172, R² = 0,98), assim como a massa foliar (MF = -0,1028x + 13,892; R2 = 0,99) e o número de folhas (NF = -0,2545x + 36,87, R² ~ 0,998). A partição de assimilados foi alterada em favor da restauração da área foliar.

ABSTRACT The willow (Salix x rubens) is a woody plant of European origin, used in Brazil for handicrafts and furniture. This culture is eventually attacked by caterpillars and ants, which cause the loss of the leaf area. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of levels of defoliation on the growth of willow. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse. The plants were kept in pots with a capacity of 8 liters under intermittent mist, from August to December 2004. The design was a randomized block with five replications and four treatments (0, 25, 50 and 75% defoliation of the total number of leaves) were evaluated for reducing sugar content, leaf area and fresh and dry stems and leaves. The defoliation reduced the final weight (WR = -0,1067x + 19,03, R² = 0,98) and diameter of the rods (DM = -0,0114x + 5,172, R² = 0,98), and the leaf weight (MF = -0,1028x + 13,892; R2 = 0,99) and leaf number (NF = -0,2545x + 36,87, R² ~ 0,998). The partition of assimilates has been modified in favor of the restoration of leaf area.

Neste trabalho, objetivou-se determinar uma metodologia para polinização controlada em Araucaria angustifolia, visando ao melhoramento genético da espécie e o aumento da produção de pinhões, por meio do manejo com polinizações suplementares. Para tanto, foi desenvolvida uma metodologia de polinização controlada por meio de vários experimentos realizados entre 2003 e 2005. Foram avaliados os efeitos da polinização controlada, da quantidade de pólen aplicada por ginostróbilo, a época de polinização e o estádio de desenvolvimento do ginostróbilo durante a polinização sobre o número de pinhões produzidos por pinha. Uma única polinização controlada resulta em baixa produção de pinhões cheios e a polinização em estádios mais avançados de desenvolvimento do ginostróbilo resulta em valores elevados de pinhões cheios por pinha. A polinização controlada em A. angustifolia é efetiva para a produção de pinhões e a sua aplicação em cruzamentos dirigidos permitirá que cruzamentos, hoje impossíveis na natureza pela grande distância entre os pais, possam ocorrer. A polinização controlada realizada duas vezes nos ginostróbilos com mais de 30 mm de diâmetro aumenta a produção de pinhões por pinha.

The objective of this study was to develop a methodology for controlled pollination of Araucaria angustifolia, aiming at the genetic improvement of the species and increased yield of pine nuts through management with supplemental pollination. A methodology of controlled pollination was developed in which several experiments were carried out in 2003-2005 period. The effects of the following parameters were evaluated: controlled pollination, amount of pollen applied per female strobilus, time of pollination, and development stage of the female strobilus during pollination on the number of pine nuts yielded per pine cone. A single controlled pollination procedure results in low yield of fully filled pine nuts, and pollination at later development stages of the female strobilus results in high yields of fully filled pine nuts per pine cone. Controlled pollination in A. angustifolia proved effective for pine nut production and its application in oriented breeding procedures will enable breeding that up until now was considered impossible in nature on account of the considerable distance between the parent plants. Controlled pollination performed twice in female strobili more than 30 mm in diameter does increase the yield of pine nuts per pine cone.

O abacaxi ornamental (Ananas bracteatus Schult. f.) é bastante utilizado em composições paisagísticas para delimitar áreas ou canteiros. A micropropagação permite obter altas taxas de multiplicação, podendo ser uma alternativa viável e vantajosa de propagação vegetativa, visto que a demanda por esta espécie vem aumentando, tanto no mercado nacional quanto no internacional. Neste trabalho objetivou-se avaliar a influência de diferentes irradiâncias e concentrações de sacarose durante o enraizamento in vitro, sobre a sobrevivência das mudas na fase de aclimatização. Para tanto, foram testadas diferentes concentrações de sacarose (0, 10, 20 e 30 g L-1) no meio de enraizamento, bem como duas irradiâncias (22,9 e 66,9 mmol m-2 s-1) em sala de crescimento. O melhor resultado em termos de enraizamento foi obtido no meio de cultura contendo 30 g L-1 de sacarose sob irradiância de 66,9 mmol m-2 s-1. Após a fase de enraizamento in vitro, as plantas foram transferidas para casa de vegetação e mantidas sob nebulização intermitente por 60 dias. Os resultados de sobrevivência aos 30 e 60 dias não diferiram estatisticamente para os dois níveis de irradiância testados. Entretanto, para concentrações de sacarose, a testemunha apresentou sobrevivência inferior (50%) diferindo estatisticamente dos demais tratamentos que foram semelhantes entre si (95 a 100%).

Ornamental pineapple (Ananas bracteatus Schult. f.) is often used in landscape compositions in order to limit areas or borders. Micropropagation allows high multiplication rates and may be an interesting technique of vegetative propagation in order to meet the need of plants of this species that is rising on national and international markets. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of several light irradiances and sucrose concentrations during in vitro rooting on survival during the acclimatization stage. Several concentrations of sucrose (0, 10, 20 or 30 g L-1) in the rooting medium and two light irradiances (22.9 and 66.9 mmol m-2 s-1) in the culture room were tested. The best results of rooting were obtained on culture medium containing 30 g L-1 sucrose under an irradiance of 66.9 mmol m-2 s-1 . The plants were then transferred to the greenhouse and cultured under intermittent mist for 60 days. There was no significant difference among the results of survival under the two irradiances tested. However, for sucrose concentrations, the survival rate of the control (50%) was statistically inferior to that of the other treatments that were similar among them (95 and 100%).

O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a melhor técnica para microenxertia em Araucaria angustifolia. Para isto, foram realizadas auto-enxertias em plantas germinadas in vitro, com 2, 6 e 12 meses de idade. Foram testados dois locais de enxertia no porta-enxerto: caule e hipocótilo, e dois tipos de enxertia: garfagem de topo com e sem fenda. A maior porcentagem de microenxertos com fenda aberta ocorreu nas microenxertias realizadas no hipocótilo. As maiores porcentagens de microenxertos sobreviventes foram obtidas nas microenxertias realizadas no caule, e o tipo de enxertia mais eficiente foi a garfagem de topo sem fenda. A presença de calo aparente foi resultado da interação dos três fatores testados, com maior presença de calo nas enxertias realizadas no hipocótilo. O crescimento dos microenxertos indicou o restabelecimento das conexões vasculares. O maior crescimento dos microenxertos foi obtido nas enxertias realizadas no caule em porta-enxertos de 6 meses com a garfagem de topo. As metodologias testadas permitem concluir que o processo de microenxertia em Araucaria angustifolia é eficiente e factível, podendo ser utilizado para a produção de mudas microenxertadas.

The objeticve of this research was to determine a more efficient way of micrografting in vitro Araucaria angustifolia plants. Autografting was performed onto 2, 6- and 12- month- old in vitro germinated plants. Two different graft types (saddle with or without slit) were perfomed on two different plant parts (stem or hypocotyl). Higher percentage of open slit micrografts was observed when micrografting was performed onto hypocotyls. Higher percentage of surviving micrografts was obtained when micrografting was perfomed on stem; the saddle without slit technique was the most efficient. Callus formation resulted from the combination of the three tested factors. However, more visible calluses were present in micrograftings perfomed on hypocotyls. Growth of the micrograftings was an indication of vascular connection recovering. Better growth was observed whem micrograftings were slit saddled onto 6-month-old stems. The methodology tested herein allowed us to conclude that the micrografting process is effective and efficient and may be used for production of Araucaria angustifolia micrografted plants.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi descrever o desenvolvimento e o crescimento das pinhas da Araucaria angustifolia durante e após o período de polinização, identificando os períodos de maior crescimento das pinhas, a época de polinização e maturação dos pinhões. As plantas adultas pesquisadas situam-se no Setor de Ciências Agrárias da UFPR, em Curitiba - PR. Para o acompanhamento do crescimento das pinhas foram realizadas coletas e medições de pinhas durante os anos de 2003 a 2005. O diâmetro e o comprimento das pinhas foram medidos em 15 datas, durante os três anos. Para as condições ambientais de Curitiba, o período compreendido entre a polinização das pinhas e a maturação das sementes foi de 20 meses. Há dois picos de crescimento das pinhas, um de outubro a janeiro, logo após a polinização, e outro de outubro a abril do ano seguinte.

The objectives of this work were to describe the development and growth rate of the pine cones of Araucaria angustifolia during and after the pollination period, to identify the period of maximum growth of the cones and the period of pollination and maturation of the pine nuts. The adult individuals were found at the Setor de Ciencias Agrarias of the UFPR, in Curitiba - PR. Collections and measurements of pine cones were made in 2003 and 2005. The diameter and the length of the pine cones were measured 15 different times in both the years. In the studied environmental conditions, the period between the pollination and maturation of the pine nuts was 20 months. The maximum pine cone growth was achieved between October and January after the pollination, and between October and April of the following year.

Resumo O presente trabalho teve por objetivo descrever morfologicamente e cronologicamente aspectos da biologia reprodutiva da Araucaria angustifolia, em Curitiba - PR. Para a descrição da fenologia reprodutiva, foram realizadas coletas e medições de ginostróbilos e androstróbilos, e de pinhas maduras, nos anos de 2003 a 2005. As estruturas reprodutivas foram fotografadas in situ e em laboratório, em diferentes estádios de desenvolvimento. Para as condições ambientais de Curitiba, a polinização da A. angustifolia, ocorre em setembro e outubro. No ciclo do androstróbilo, a formação se inicia em novembro, e a dispersão do pólen ocorre em setembro e outubro, num ciclo de 10 a 11 meses. Abstract The objective of this work was to describe morphologically and chronologically aspects of the reproductive biology of the Araucaria angustifolia, in Curitiba - PR. Collections and measurements of ginostrobili and androstrobili, and mature pine cones were made between 2003 and 2005 to describe the reproductive phenology of A. angustifolia. The reproductive structures were photographed in situ and in the laboratory, at different periods of development. In the environmental conditions of Curitiba, the pollination of the A. angustifolia occurs in September and October. The androstrobilus formation begins in November, and the pollen dispersion occurs in September and October in a cycle of 10 to 11 months. The ginostrobilus formation occurs in November; its polinization is in September and October of the following year and the pine nuts start mature 20 months later, from April until September, in a cycle of 29 to 34 months.
