Abstract Childhood overweight and obesity rates are growing at an alarming rate in Spain, affecting poor families more strongly as they consume high-calorie, low-nutritional items. The Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated this scenario. Ensuring universal and free access to school meals has been suggested as a strategy for tackling this issue, as well as fighting hunger and social inequality. The research that led to the elaboration of this article was carried out in Spain between 2019-2020. It explores the paradoxes and challenges that surround school feeding in this European country and the impasses related to the creation of “home-grown school feeding” type programs. The research on screen is located within the scope of the sociology of food. Resumo Os índices de sobrepeso e de obesidade infantil crescem de forma alarmante na Espanha, afetando mais fortemente as famílias pobres face a ingestão de artigos de alto valor calórico e baixo valor nutricional. A pandemia do Covid-19 agravou este cenário. Assegurar o acesso universal e gratuito à alimentação escolar vem sendo apontado como estratégia para o enfrentamento desta questão, bem como para combater a fome e a desigualdade social. Abstract Despite being favored by their proximity to the state's main consumer market, families settled in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre (RMPA) experience the same dilemmas and challenges as the various agrarian reform settlements in Brazil. The agroecological production of vegetables has been the path adopted by the settlers to meet the needs of consumers identified with the quality of the product, but also with the ethical principles that govern this way of producing. This article is the result of research that involved conducting 56 in-depth interviews. The central objective was to examine families' social reproduction strategies with an emphasis on relationships established within the scope of RMPA's agroecological fairs. We were able to prove that this form of direct marketing plays a transcendental role in the lives of the settlers. The relationship of trust built with consumers is one of the success factors. The families that operate in these fairs are active agents in this process, seeing themselves as subjects of the production and commercialization processes. Resumo Apesar de favorecidas pela proximidade em relação ao principal mercado consumidor do estado, as famílias assentadas da Região Metropolitana de Porto Alegre (RMPA) vivem os mesmos dilemas e desafios dos diversos assentamentos de reforma agrária do Brasil. A produção agroecológica de legumes e verduras tem sido o caminho adotado pelos assentados para atender às necessidades de consumidores identificados com a qualidade do produto, mas também com os princípios éticos que regem essa forma de produzir. Este artigo é resultado de uma pesquisa que envolveu a realização de 57 entrevistas em profundidade. O objetivo central foi examinar as estratégias de reprodução social das famílias com ênfase nas relações estabelecidas no âmbito das feiras agroecológicas da RMPA. Pudemos comprovar que essa forma de comercialização direta assume um papel transcendental na vida dos assentados. A relação de confiança construída com os consumidores é um dos fatores de êxito. Resumo A escassez de jovens interessados pela agricultura e as incertezas no processo de sucessão geracional nas propriedades são realidades que afetam muitos países, incluindo a Espanha. Nesse país, menos de um terço dos agricultores são considerados jovens. Assim, o objetivo deste artigo é trazer percepções e reflexões sobre o tema com base em depoimentos de representantes das organizações sindicais espanholas ligadas, sobretudo, à agricultura familiar. Para tanto, doze entrevistas foram realizadas, transcritas e analisadas com base na técnica conhecida como análise de conteúdo. Os resultados refletem a construção de cinco categorias de análise: acesso à terra e investimentos iniciais; formação socioprofissional; rentabilidade dos estabelecimentos; serviços e infraestrutura no meio rural; e, políticas públicas para a juventude rural. No agro espanhol há setores dinâmicos e inovadores. Não obstante, a sucessão geracional se apresenta como um tema de importância transcendental. Representantes das organizações entrevistadas manifestaram preocupação com a escassez de jovens agricultores e com o futuro da agricultura. A pesquisa apontou que sucessão geracional, a instalação de jovens na agricultura e a renovação geracional da população rural são questões complexas, as quais devem ser afrontadas de maneira integral e efetiva, sobretudo porque seus desdobramentos afetam à sociedade como um todo.

Abstract The shortage of young people interested in agriculture and the lack of generational succession in the agricultural sector is a reality that affects many countries, including Spain. In that country, less than a third of farmers are considered young. Thus, the objective of this article is to bring perceptions and reflections on the subject based on testimonies of representatives of Spanish union organizations linked, above all, to family farming. For that, twelve interviews were carried out, transcribed and analyzed based on the technique known as content analysis. The results boil down to five categories of analysis: access to land and initial investments; socio-professional training; profitability of production units; services and infrastructure in rural areas, and; public policies for rural youth. Although there are more dynamic and innovative segments, generational succession is presented as a peremptory need for the Spanish agricultural sector. Representatives of all organizations interviewed expressed concern about the shortage of young farmers and the future of agriculture. In addition, the research pointed out that generational succession, the installation of young people in agriculture and the generational renewal of the agrarian population is a challenge of great complexity and, therefore, must be tackled in an integral way, involving different sectors of society.

Resumo: Este estudo teve como objetivo compreender as disposições que envolvem as dinâmicas sucessórias em estabelecimentos rurais da pecuária familiar no município de Jaguarão/RS. A pesquisa consiste em um estudo de natureza qualitativa baseado no uso da entrevista em profundidade como instrumento da coleta de dados. Foram realizadas 31 entrevistas, das quais 29 com pecuaristas familiares e duas com agentes do serviço oficial de extensão rural local. Os dados foram tratados pela técnica de análise de conteúdo. O marco teórico está centrado na análise das singularidades do pecuarista familiar e da questão da sucessão geracional, partindo da perspectiva sociológica centrada no patrimônio de disposições de Lahire. Os resultados destacaram que a realidade e o contexto sociocultural que envolve os estabelecimentos familiares são fatores que interferem diretamente na reprodução social dessas famílias. Dois aspectos são primordiais para a sucessão geracional: o gostar da atividade e a vocação para exercer tal ofício. De acordo com os resultados, não há um padrão sucessório definido na pecuária familiar. Nos estabelecimentos que contam com potenciais sucessores, a tendência é seguir com a atividade pecuária; já naqueles onde não há perspectiva de sucessão, os caminhos apontados são o abandono, a venda e/ou o arrendamento das propriedades.

Abstract: This study aimed to understand the provisions that involve the dynamics of succession in rural family livestock establishments in the city of Jaguarão/RS. The research consists of a qualitative study based on the use of in-depth interviews as a data collection instrument. Thirty-one interviews were conducted, 29 of which with family farmers and two with agents of the official local rural extension service. Data were treated using the content analysis technique. The theoretical framework is centered on the analysis of the singularities of the family rancher and the question of generational succession, starting from the sociological perspective centered on Lahire's heritage of dispositions. The results highlighted that the reality and sociocultural context surrounding family establishments are factors that directly interfere in the social reproduction of these families. Two aspects are essential for generational succession: the enjoyment of the activity and the vocation to exercise such a profession. According to the results, there is no defined pattern of succession in family livestock. In establishments that have potential successors, the tendency is to continue with the livestock activity; in those where there is no prospect of succession, the paths indicated are the abandonment, sale and/or lease of properties

Resumo Inaugurado em 2011, o Complexo Eólico Campos Neutrais foi considerado, à época, o maior parque eólico da América Latina, distribuindo-se pelos municípios de Santa Vitória do Palmar, Rio Grande e Chuí, na fronteira com o Uruguai. Tal região se destaca pela produção de arroz irrigado e criação extensiva de gado. Os aerogeradores foram instalados predominantemente em médios e grandes estabelecimentos cujos proprietários firmaram contratos com empresas de energia. A conciliação entre a geração de energia e a produção agropecuária reflete o moderno conceito de multifuncionalidade. Muitos produtores veem a questão ambiental de forma antagônica aos seus interesses imediatos. Todavia, um novo cenário surge no momento em que passam a auferir grandes rendas com a geração de energia. O objetivo da pesquisa foi avaliar se havia indícios de mudanças de percepção e comportamento entre os produtores que aderiram ao projeto. A pesquisa se desenvolveu entre 2016 e 2017, com diversos atores, por meio da realização de entrevistas em profundidade. A teoria das representações sociais foi o instrumento utilizado na análise dos depoimentos. A principal conclusão é que o novo cenário não alterou a visão dos produtores ante as questões ambientais, os quais, majoritariamente, seguem aferrados ao chamado fundamentalismo agrário.

Resumo A Espanha assistiu à eclosão de um grande número de Centros de Interpretação do Patrimônio Cultural no final dos anos 1990 e começo do novo milênio. Tal fenômeno afetou especialmente a Andaluzia, sendo que a ênfase desses equipamentos se volta ao mundo da olivicultura, atividade produtiva milenar cuja natureza social, política e cultural assume um caráter transcendental. Esse movimento se conecta com o discurso em torno à qualidade e valorização da alimentação saudável, sobretudo porque o azeite de oliva consiste numa das estrelas da chamada dieta mediterrânea. Não obstante, as opiniões se dividem quanto ao papel desempenhado por essas estruturas e pela forma como são gestionadas. O objetivo deste artigo foi explorar as nuances, bem como as convergências e contradições desse processo à luz da realidade concreta. A pesquisa baseou-se na realização de entrevistas em profundidade com diversos atores sociais ligados a esse setor no âmbito das províncias de Córdoba e Jaén.

Abstract Spain witnessed the emergence of a large number of Cultural Heritage Interpretation Centers in the late 1990s and the beginning of the new millennium. This phenomenon has particularly affected Andalusia, where the emphasis on such equipment has fallen on the world of olive cultivation, a millenary productive activity whose social, political and cultural nature takes on a transcendental character. This movement is connected with the discourse around the quality and valorization of healthy food, mainly because olive oil consists of one of the stars of the so-called Mediterranean diet. However, opinions are divided as to the role played by these structures and the way they are managed. The purpose of this article was to explore the nuances, as well as the convergences and contradictions of this process in the light of concrete reality. The research was based on conducting in-depth interviews with various social actors linked to this sector within the provinces of Córdoba and Jaén.

Resumo: Situado no extremo sul do Brasil, o município de Jaguarão tem na produção de ovinos e de bovinos, em regime de criação extensiva, duas tradicionais vocações agropecuárias. Não obstante, desde os últimos dez anos constata-se, em seu interior, a exemplo do que ocorre em outras localidades pertencentes ao bioma Pampa, uma transformação importante do ponto de vista social, paisagístico e ambiental. Ela está relacionada aos efeitos produzidos pela expansão da área cultivada de soja, fato que supôs a conversão de aproximadamente 37 mil hectares, predominantemente de pastos nativos, em áreas dedicadas a essa cultura. Neste estudo nossa atenção envolveu dois grandes objetivos. O primeiro foi analisar os impactos socioambientais da expansão da soja. O segundo foi refletir sobre a necessidade de políticas públicas para regulamentar o plantio dessa cultura em Jaguarão. Em ambos os casos nos valemos da abordagem narrativa realizada a partir de entrevistas com produtores rurais e outros atores locais. Constatou-se a existência de duas grandes orientações narrativas. De um lado, a posição de atores locais que argumentam a necessidade de uma política reguladora, de outro, os que se posicionam contra, alegando que tal cultivo traz desenvolvimento para Jaguarão e para a região.

Abstract: Located in the extreme south of Brazil, the town of Jaguarão shows, in an extensive regime, two traditional livestock vocations: sheep and cattle production. Nevertheless, during the last ten years, there has been an important transformation from a social, landscape, and environmental point of view, as in other places in the Pampa Biome. It is related to the effects produced by the expansion of the cultivated area with the soybean crop, a fact that maybe the reason for the conversion of approximately 37 thousand hectares, predominantly native pastures, in areas dedicated to this culture. In this study, our attention involved two major objectives. The first one was to analyze the socio-environmental impacts of soybean expansion. The second was to reflect on the need for public policies to regulate the planting of this cultivation in Jaguarão. In both cases, we used the narrative approach conducted from interviews with rural producers and other local actors. The existence of two great narrative orientations was verified. On the one hand, the position of actors who argue the need for regulatory policy, on the other, the actors who oppose, claiming that soybean cultivation brings development to Jaguarão and the region.

Abstract The last twenty years have witnessed the emergence of “alternative food networks” (or simply AFN), which arise worldwide in opposition to mainstream production, distribution and consumption. Italy is certainly one of the countries where this phenomenon has expanded significantly in the past decade. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the case of Campagna Amica, one of the most important experiences of AFN in Europe that has been promoted by Coldiretti, the leading Italian leading agrarian organization. However, this initiative contains a number of contradictions that contrast with the “alternative nature” of this experience.

Resumen Los últimos 20 años han sido testigos de la emergencia de redes agroalimentarias alternativas (AFN), las cuales surgen en oposición al mainstream de la producción, distribución y consumo de alimentos en todo el planeta. Italia es uno de los países donde dicho fenómeno se ha expandido notablemente en la última década. El propósito de este artículo es analizar el caso de Campagna Amica, una de las más importantes experiencias de AFN en Europa y que ha sido impulsada por Coldiretti, la principal organización agraria italiana. No obstante, tal iniciativa expone contradicciones que contrastan con el carácter “alternativo” de dicha experiencia.

RESUMO: O propósito do artigo é investigar a percepção dos frequentadores dos restaurantes universitários da Universidade Federal de Pelotas sobre um sistema de compras preferenciais. Este se dá através de chamadas públicas que dão primazia à produção oriunda da agricultura familiar de Pelotas e região. Foi aplicado um questionário semiestruturado (pesquisa tipo survey) centrado no nível de conhecimento e informação dos respondentes sobre o que é agricultura familiar, sobre o aludido sistema e seus respectivos desdobramentos sociais. Constatou-se que há diferenças de percepção segundo a área do conhecimento dos respondentes. Entretanto, há grande convergência no que tange à importância deste sistema para a economia regional e para o desenvolvimento dos territórios.

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this article was to investigate the perception of the students of the school restaurants of the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel) on a system of preferential purchases. This is done through public calls that give preference to production coming from the family agriculture of Pelotas and region. A semi-structured questionnaire (survey) was applied focusing on the level of knowledge and information of respondents on what is family farming, on the aforementioned system and their respective social developments. It was verified that there are differences of perception according to the area of knowledge of the respondents. Meanwhile, there is great convergence regarding the importance of this system for the regional economy.

Resumo A última década esteve marcada pelo surgimento de uma inovação que a literatura internacional reconheceu como redes agroalimentares alternativas (AFN), regidas por uma lógica que se opõe ao regime operado pela grande distribuição e pelas cadeias globais de suprimento. Uma das mais importantes experiências de AFN europeia é o Projeto Campagna Amica, levada a efeito pela principal confederação sindical agrária italiana (Coldiretti). Desde a sua criação, em 2009, a ênfase tem sido no sentido de reconstruir as relações entre produtores e consumidores através de um processo de aproximação que se desenvolve dentro de mercados de venda direta de produtos agroalimentares. A ênfase desse estudo é mostrar as peculiaridades que ensejam o seu surgimento, mas também as contradições, as ambivalências e os desafios desse processo de construção social da qualidade.

Abstract The last decade was marked by the rise of the international literature refers to as alternative agro-food networks (AFN), which are governed by a different logic that is opposed to the retail industry and the large supply chains regime. One of the most important experiences of European AFN is the Friendly Campaign Project, carried out by the main Italian agricultural trade union confederation (Coldiretti). Since its inception in 2009, the emphasis has been towards rebuilding relations between producers and consumers through a process of rapprochement that develops within direct sale of agri-food markets. The emphasis of this study is to show the nuances giving rise its appearance, but also the contradictions, ambiguities and challenges that social quality construction process.

RESUMO Este artigo se insere no debate mundial sobre a dinâmica das redes agroalimentares alternativas. O objetivo central do trabalho consiste em analisar a constituição e funcionamento dos Gruppi di Acquisto Solidale, considerada atualmente como a mais importante experiência de consumo político da Itália. O estudo se baseia em entrevistas em profundidade realizadas com diversos atores ligados a essa iniciativa (produtores, consumidores, técnicos etc.), cujo foco é mostrar que não se trata apenas de uma modalidade singular de compra e venda de produtos agroalimentares, mas de um movimento mais amplo que desafia o mainstream da produção, distribuição e consumo agroalimentar vigente em todo o planeta. A contribuição do trabalho está em suscitar a reflexão em torno da importância desses processos enquanto objeto de observação sociológica, em meio aos efeitos decorrentes dos escândalos agroalimentares da atualidade.

ABSTRACT This article is inserted in the global debate about the dynamics of alternative agro-food networks. The main objective of this study consists in analyzing the constitution and operation of the Gruppi di Acquisto Solidale (G.A.S), currently considered the most important experience of political consumption of Italy. This study is based on in-depth interviews held with various actors connected to this initiative (producers, consumers, technicians etc.). The focus is to demonstrate that it is not only a unique modality of buying and selling agro-food products, but of a broader movement that challenges the production, distribution and agro-food consumption mainstream in the whole planet. The contribution of this study is to stimulate the reflection about the importance of these processes as objects of sociological observation, among the effects caused by agro-food scandals in the actuality.

RESUMÉ Cet article s'insère dans le débat global sur la dynamique des réseaux agroalimentaires alternatifs. L'objectif central de ce travail consiste à analyser la constitution et le fonctionnement des Gruppi di Acquisto Solidale, considéré de nos jours comme l'expérience de consommation politique la plus importante d'Italie. L'étude est basée sur des entretiens approfondis menés avec plusieurs acteurs liés à cette initiative (producteurs, consommateurs, techniciens, etc.), dont l'objectif est de montrer qu'il ne s'agit pas uniquement d'une modalité singulière d'achat et de vente de produits agroalimentaires, mais d'un mouvement plus large qui défie le courant dominant (mainstream) de la production, de la distribution et de la consommation agro-alimentaire en cours dans l'ensemble de la planète. La contribution du travail consiste à provoquer une réflexion autour de l'importance de ces processus en tant qu'objet d'observation sociologique, dans le cadre des effets découlant des scandales agroalimentaires.

O mito fundador da sociologia rural estabeleceu a oposição campo/cidade, classificando tais noções como realidades espaciais e sociais descontínuas. Todavia, nas duas últimas décadas, constrói-se uma imagem idílica e divinizada do rural, sobretudo no âmbito dos países integrantes da União Europeia. Que razões conspiram para a emergência dessas dinâmicas de revalorização do rural? Há um sentido comum e recorrente entre o modo como se constrói esse novo discurso sobre a ruralidade no âmbito da Europa e de outros países? Este trabalho objetiva explorar algumas contradições associadas ao que os autores denominam emergência de um rural “sob medida”, num contexto marcado pela era do pós-produtivismo e pelo peso crescente dos valores pós-materialistas, elegendo as representações sociais do rural como foco analítico.

The founding myth of rural sociology established an opposition between countryside and cities, classifying these notions as separate spatial and social realities. In the last two decades, an idyllic and divinized image of the rural has been constructed, especially in countries from the European Union. What reasons have conspired to foster this new appreciation of the rural? Is there a mutually accepted, recurring meaning between the way this new discourse about the rural is created in Europe and in other countries? This study aims to explore some of the contradictions associated with what the authors call the emergence of a rural “made to measure” in a context marked by post-productivism and the increasing weight of post-materialist values, taking social representations of the rural as the focus of the analysis.

O artigo analisa os desafios existentes, no Brasil, com relação à institucionalização das indicações geográficas de produtos agroalimentares, tomando por base a experiência europeia. A recente expansão no número de experiências de diferenciação não tem sido capaz de engendrar mudanças requeridas para estabilizar um sistema que, atualmente, mostra-se extremamente frágil e carente de coordenação. O estudo baseia-se numa abordagem comparativa entre o marco legal brasileiro e europeu, considerando a existência de diversas experiências de indicações geográficas da Espanha (Andaluzia) e do Rio Grande do Sul (Serra Gaúcha).

The paper examines the challenges that exist in Brazil, with respect to the institutionalization of geographical indications of agricultural food products, based on the European experience. The recent expansion in the number of experiences of differentiation has not been able to engender changes required to stabilize a system that currently shows up extremely fragile and lacking coordination. The study is based on a comparative approach between the Brazilian and European legal framework considering the existence of diverse experiences of geographical indications of Spain (Andalusia) and Rio Grande do Sul (Serra Gaucha).

The article discusses the topic of the Geographical Indications in Europe and Brazil from the point of view of the territorial development. In case of Brazil the authors puts on special accent in the experience of the Valley of the Vineyards to which considers like representative of processes of innovation in the rural area. But the authors underline the need to establish a conceptual base more wide that contemplates the aspects relative to the cultural identity of the territories, in the center of the strategies of intervention, and not only from the optics of the dynamics of a chain of value of a certain product, process or service. But for so much it is necessary to rely on a few more integrated political instruments, as well as to break with the sectorial vision that associates the rural spaces with the strict fulfillment of productive functions.

L'article discute le sujet des indications géographiques en Europe et au Brésil du point de vue du développement territorial. Dans le cas du Brésil un accent spécial devient dans l'expérience de la Vallée des Vignobles à laquelle il considère comme représentative des processus d'innovation dans le domaine rural. Mais les auteurs soulignent la nécessité d'établir une base conceptuelle plus ample qui contemple les aspects relatifs à l'identité culturelle des territoires, au centre des stratégies d'intervention, et non seulement depuis l'optique des externalidades d'une chaîne de valeur d'un produit déterminé, de processus ou de service. Mais pour tant il est nécessaire de disposer de quelques instruments politiques plus intégrés, ainsi que casser avec la vision sectorielle qui associe les espaces ruraux à l'accomplissement strict de fonctions productives.
