O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de dietas peletizadas ou extrusadas, com diferentes níveis de carboidrato e lipídio, sobre o tempo de trânsito gastrointestinal e sua modulação em pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus). Cento e oitenta juvenis de pacu foram alimentados com oito dietas isoproteicas com dois níveis de carboidratos (40 e 50%) e dois níveis de lipídeos (4 e 8%). Quatro dietas foram peletizadas e quatro extrusadas. Os níveis experimentais de carboidrato e lipídeo não alteraram o tempo de passagem do bolo alimentar. Entretanto, o tempo de permanência do bolo alimentar foi dependente do processamento aplicado à dieta. Os peixes alimentados com dietas peletizadas apresentaram o maior tempo de trânsito gastrointestinal (TTGI). A análise de regressão do comportamento do bolo alimentar para dietas peletizadas e extrusadas com 4% de lipídeo mostraram diferentes ajustes. A análise de regressão do TTGI de peixes alimentados com 8% de lipídios ajustou-se a uma equação cúbica e mostrou ajustes na permanência do alimento, com maior aproveitamento das dietas, quer com dietas extrusadas ou peletizadas. O TTGI dos peixes que receberam dietas extrusadas com 4% de lipídeos ajustou-se a uma equação linear. O TTGI de pacu depende do processamento da dieta e é afetado pelos níveis de lipídios e carboidratos na dieta.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of pelletized or extruded diets, with different levels of carbohydrate and lipid, on the gastrointestinal transit time (GITT) and its modulation in pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus). One hundred and eighty pacu juveniles were fed with eight isonitrogenous diets containing two carbohydrate levels (40 and 50%) and two lipid levels (4 and 8%). Four diets were pelletized and four were extruded. Carbohydrate and lipid experimental levels caused no changes to the bolus transit time. However, the bolus permanence time was related to diet processing. Fish fed pelletized diets exhibited the highest gastrointestinal transit time. Regression analysis of bolus behavior for pelletized and extruded diets with 4% lipid depicted different fits. GITT regression analysis of fish fed 8% lipid was fitted to a cubic equation and displayed adjustments of food permanence, with enhanced utilization of the diets, either with extruded or pelletized diets. GITT of fish fed extruded diets with 4% lipid was adjusted to a linear equation. The GITT of pacu depends on the diet processing and is affected by dietary levels of lipid and carbohydrate.

Há muito tempo, tem sido relatada uma ampla variedade de efeitos fisiológicos em peixes sob exercício. Tem sido dada especial atenção a alguns tipos de exercício, mas, sua aplicação como prática salutar na criação e para o bem estar dos peixes vem crescendo nos últimos anos. Neste caso, a natação sustentada intermitente (ISS) por longos períodos ainda não foi explorada. Neste trabalho, o peixe de água doce Brycon amazonicus foi submetido a (ISS) por 30 dias à velocidade de 1,0 comprimento corporal s-1 por 12h intervalado de 12h sob regime de água sem movimento. A hematologia e o metabolismo foram avaliados. Os peixes exercitados diminuíram 30% a contagem de eritrócitos e o teor de hemoglobina permaneceu constante. Os estoques de glicogênio hepático, o teor de triacil glycerol muscular (TAG) aumentou e o perfil metabólico foi tipicamente aeróbico. O discreto aumento de TAG hepático, além das características hematológicas e do metabolismo como um todo, instiga-nos investigar este tipo de exercício como uma prática benéfica na criação de peixes

In fish, studies on a wide variety of physiological effects of exercise have been reported since a long time. It has been attributed special attention to some types of exercise, however, its application as a healthful practice in the rearing and welfare of farming fish is rising in last few years. In this particular, long-term intermittent sustained swimming (ISS) has been not yet explored. In this work, the freshwater fish Brycon amazonicus was submitted to (ISS) for 30 days at velocity of 1.0 body-length sec-1 for 12h interspaced by 12h under still water. Hematology and metabolism were evaluated. Exercised fish decreased 30% the erythrocyte number and hemoglobin was unvaried. The stores of liver glycogen and muscular triacylglycerol (TAG) were increased and the metabolic profile was typically aerobic. The slight decrease of liver (TAG) plus the full metabolic and hematic trait allow investing in this kind of exercise a beneficial practice in the rearing of fish species

A criação de peixes de água doce é emergente no Brasil e muitas espécies tropicais são promissoras. O teleósteo matrinxã (Brycon cephalus) apresenta várias características tais como rápido crescimento, boa aceitação comercial e adaptabilidade a condições artificiais de cultivo, as quais fazem dele uma espécie promissora para o comércio. O uso de pesticidas em ambientes aquáticos é freqüente no Brasil e o metil paration é muito usado em aqüicultura. A atividade da acetilcolinesterase foi determinada em cérebro e músculo branco de matrinxã exposto a 2ppm de metil paration por 24 horas. Houve inibição de 64% e 69% da acetilcolinesterase muscular e cerebral respectivamente. Essas atividades não foram recuperadas após 8 dias da exposição a este pesticida. Concluiu-se que a acetilcolinesterase para estes tecidos foi inibida por pequenas quantidades de metil paration e o principal efeito foi observado no cérebro.

Farming of the freshwater fish is emerging in Brazil and many species from the wild are promising. The teleost matrinxã (Brycon cephalus) holds several characteristics such as fast growth rate, high commercial value and adaptability to artificial raring conditions, which make it a promising species for commerce. The use of pesticides in aquatic environment is frequent in Brazil, and methyl parathion is very common in aquaculture. We have determined the enzymatic activity of acetyl cholinesterase in white muscle and brain of matrinxã exposed to 2ppm of environmental methyl parathion for 24 hours. There was 64% and 69% of acetyl cholinesterase inhibition in muscle and brain respectively. These activities were not recovered after 8 days from exposure to this pesticide. It can be concluded that acetyl cholinesterase from those tissues was inhibited by small amounts of methyl parathion, and the main effect was observed in the brain.
