ABSTRACT Purpose To identify the reasons that lead the individual to follow or not the recommendation to use the hearing aid and its use over the years. Research strategy Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) recommendations were followed. The databases searched were: Pubmed, Pubmed Central, Scopus, Embase, Web of science and Cochrane, using the following descriptors: “Hearing Aids”, “Patient Compliance” and the Boolean indicator AND. Selection criteria primary original articles with prospective, retrospective, observational or experimental designs; that raise, report, verify or analyze the reasons for adherence or not to the use of hearing aids, regardless of being an experienced user or not; carried out with the young, adult and elderly population; with individuals with any degree, type and configuration of hearing loss; with unilateral or bilateral adaptations and in Portuguese, English and Spanish. Results 27 studies were included in the analysis. There were two distinct situations in the auditory rehabilitation process: acceptance of the indication of the use of HA and the continuity of the effective use. Thus, the aspects that positively, negatively or do not interfere in these two phases were compiled and presented. RESUMO Objetivo identificar os motivos que levam o indivíduo a seguir ou não a recomendação da necessidade do uso do aparelho de amplificação sonora individual (AASI) e a utilização desse dispositivo ao longo dos anos. Estratégia de pesquisa orientações do Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) foram seguidas. As bases de dados pesquisadas foram: Pubmed, Pubmed Central, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science e Cochrane, utilizando os seguintes descritores: “Hearing Aids”, “Patient Compliance” e o indicador booleano AND. Verificaram-se duas situações distintas no processo de reabilitação auditiva: aceitação à indicação do uso do AASI e a continuidade do uso do dispositivo de maneira efetiva. Os aspectos que auxiliaram positivamente, negativamente ou não interferiram nessas duas fases foram compilados e apresentados. Conclusão os fatores de maior relevância para a não aquisição do AASI são: percepção de baixo custo-benefício, falta de entendimento da real necessidade e dificuldade de aceitação do uso, enquanto que os que mais impactam na continuidade do uso são: qualidade sonora do AASI, dificuldades de manuseio e percepção de pouco benefício. Resumo Introdução: A hidropsia endolinfática é o substrato fisiopatológico da doença de Ménière. As alterações desencadeadas na orelha interna, transmitidas à orelha média pelas modificações na mobilidade da cadeia ossicular, podem ser quantificadas pela timpanometria de banda larga, através da medida da absorvância acústica sob múltiplas frequências, representadas pela energia sonora absorvida pela orelha média, mesmo em estágios iniciais de sua instalação. Estudar o comportamento da orelha média através da absorvância em pacientes com hidropisia endolinfática sob pressão ambiente e sob o pico de pressão pode ser útil na detecção da doença de Ménière. Objetivo: Caracterizar o comportamento da absorvância em indivíduos com diagnóstico da doença de Ménière sintomáticos e assintomáticos, comparados com controles, a fim de verificar a capacidade da timpanometria de banda larga em detectar variações clínicas relacionadas a possível hidropisia endolinfática. Método: Foi realizado um estudo transversal, com enfoque diagnóstico, que comparou os achados da timpanometria de banda larga na pressão ambiente e no pico de pressão entre orelhas do grupo controle (n = 30), grupo assintomático (n = 21) e grupo sintomático (n = 9). Resultados: Foram encontrados valores do pico de pressão diferentes entre orelhas do grupo controle (0 daPa), do grupo assintomático (-11 daPa) e do grupo sintomático (-192 daPa), com p <0,05 pelos testes de Kruskal-Wallis, Mann Whitney e correção de Bonferroni. Foram encontrados valores de absorvância diferentes entre orelhas do grupo sintomático e do grupo assintomático em relação ao grupo controle para as frequências baixas na pressão ambiente e na pressão de pico, com p < 0,05 pelos testes de Kruskal-Wallis, Mann Whitney e correção de Bonferroni. Conclusão: A timpanometria de banda larga foi um teste capaz de identificar a presença da doença de Ménière e de diferenciar os pacientes assintomáticos e sintomáticos, comparando-os com indivíduos hígidos.

Abstract Introduction: Endolymphatic hydrops is the pathophysiological substrate of Ménière’s disease. The changes in the inner ear, transmitted to the middle ear through changes in the ossicular chain mobility, can be quantified by wideband tympanometry, through the measurement of the acoustic absorbance at multiple frequencies, represented by the sound energy absorbed by the middle ear, even at its early stages. Studying the behavior of the middle ear through the absorbance in patients with endolymphatic hydrops under ambient pressure and under peak pressure can be useful for detecting Ménière’s disease. Objective: To characterize acoustic absorbance behavior in subjects with symptomatic and asymptomatic Ménière’s disease compared to controls, in order to verify the ability of wideband tympanometry to detect Ménière’s disease. Methods: We carried out a cross-sectional study with a diagnostic approach comparing the findings of wideband tympanometry at ambient pressure and peak pressure between the ears of the control group (n = 30), the asymptomatic group (n = 21) and the symptomatic group (n = 9). Results: Different peak pressure values were found between the ears of the control group (0daPa), the asymptomatic group (−11 daPa) and the symptomatic group (−192 daPa), with p < 0.05 by the Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann Whitney test and Bonferroni correction. Different absorbance values were found between the ears of the symptomatic group and the asymptomatic group compared to the control group for low frequencies at ambient pressure and peak pressure, with p < 0.05 by the Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann Whitney test and Bonferroni correction. Conclusions: The Wideband Tympanometry test was capable of identifying the presence of Ménières disease, and to differentiate between asymptomatic and symptomatic patients, when comparing them with healthy individuals.

RESUMO Objetivo identificar as queixas mais recorrentes dos usuários de aparelhos de amplificação sonora individual (AASI) e estabelecer possíveis relações que auxiliem a busca de soluções de problemas no processo de adaptação desses dispositivos. Métodos estudo transversal, descritivo e quantitativo, realizado mediante questionário on-line, respondido por 176 fonoaudiólogos. Após computação e organização das respostas, realizou-se uma codificação e foram descritos 30 termos mais recorrentes, referentes às queixas dos usuários. Foram estabelecidas quatro categorias para verificar cada termo relatado e sua correspondência com o problema apontado em cada questão. Para o direcionamento das possíveis relações entre as queixas e suas resoluções, os termos foram divididos nos seguintes aspectos principais do processo de adaptação de AASI: adaptação física, ajuste das características eletroacústicas e características intrínsecas do usuário. Resultados foram descritos 30 termos representativos das queixas, com maior número de ocorrências para o termo “Aparelho muito alto/Som muito alto”, que apareceu 223 vezes. O termo “Não escuta nada” apareceu com menor número de ocorrências, 25 vezes. No total, foram encontradas seis queixas relacionadas a aspectos físicos, 17 a ajustes de características eletroacústicas, quatro que poderiam estar relacionadas a ambos os aspectos e duas a características intrínsecas do indivíduo. Conclusão foi possível elencar as queixas mais referidas pelos usuários de AASI. Observou-se que é viável, a partir de uma queixa, direcionar um suposto aspecto relacionado à adaptação e auxiliar os fonoaudiólogos a levantar soluções, apesar de ser clara a necessidade de um olhar individualizado para cada paciente e situação.

ABSTRACT Purpose To identify the most frequent complaints from hearing-aid users and establish possible relationships that might help audiologists solve some problems. Methods Cross-sectional, descriptive and quantitative study, carried out through an online questionnaire, answered by 176 audiologists. After analyzing the responses and computing the terms, coding was performed and the 30 most frequent complaints were described. Four categories were established to verify each reported term and its correspondence with the problem pointed out in each question. To address the possible relationships between complaints and their solutions, the terms were divided into the following main aspects of the hearing aid fitting process: physical adaptation, adjustment of electroacoustic characteristics and user’s intrinsic characteristics. Results 30 representative terms of complaint were described due to their high number of occurrences : the term “very loud device / very loud sound” appeared 223 times whereas the term “I cannot hear anything” had the fewest number of occurrences, 25 appearances. In total, there were six complaints related to physical aspects, 17 to adjustments of electroacoustic characteristics, four that could be related to both aspects and two to intrinsic characteristics of the individual. Conclusion It was possible to identify the most frequently reported complaints of hearing aid users. . It was observed that it is feasible, based on a complaint, to address a supposedly related aspect of adaptation and help audiologists find solutions. However, each particular patient and situation must be given individualized attention.

OBJECTIVES: To analyze central auditory maturation in term and preterm infants during the first 3 months of life by comparing the latency and amplitude of cortical auditory-evoked potential at different frequencies. METHODS: In this study, 17 term and 18 preterm infants were examined; all had tested positive on the neonatal hearing screening test. Cortical auditory potential was investigated during the first and third months of life. The response of the cortical auditory-evoked potential was investigated at frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 Hz. The latency and amplitude of the cortical response were automatically detected and manually analyzed by three researchers with experience in electrophysiology. The results were compared using analysis of variance and the Bonferroni test. A significance level of 5% was used for all analyses. RESULTS: Latency values of cortical auditory-evoked potential in the first month of birth were significantly higher than those in the third month, and latency values of the preterm group were higher than those of the term group, regardless of the frequency and time of evaluation. In general, the latency of the cortical auditory-evoked potential was higher at high frequencies. Amplitude values in the third month of life were significantly higher than those in the first month for term and preterm infants. CONCLUSION: Central auditory maturation was observed in both groups but with different results between those born at term and preterm, with latencies of cortical auditory-evoked potential higher for the preterm group and at high frequencies.

Resumo Introdução: A investigação do nível mínimo de resposta auditiva cortical tem sido alvo de diferentes estudos em adultos. Devido a questões de maturação, pouco se sabe sobre essas respostas em recém-nascidos. Com o avanço tecnológico, dispositivos de análise automática surgiram com o objetivo de retomar essa avaliação em populações específicas. Assim, novos estudos são necessários para verificar a viabilidade do uso desse potencial auditivo na obtenção de níveis mínimos de respostas na criança. Objetivo: Verificar e comparar latência e amplitude em 80 dBnNA e o nível mínimo de resposta auditiva cortical em recém-nascidos a termo e pré-termo. Método: Estudo transversal, comparativo, envolvendo 59 neonatos, 35 nascidos a termo e 24 pré-termos, com resultados positivos na triagem auditiva neonatal. O sistema Hearlab foi utilizado para investigar o potencial auditivo P1i com estímulo tone burst nas frequências de 500, 1000, 2000 e 4000 Hz. A busca do nível mínimo de resposta variou de 80 a 0 dBNA e foi detectado automaticamente. Os resultados foram comparados entre os grupos, avaliando a latência e amplitude em 80 dBNA e o nível mínimo de resposta auditiva cortical. Resultados: Os valores médios obtidos para o nível mínimo de resposta auditiva cortical no grupo nascido a termo foram 26 ± 8,81; 26,14 ± 6,97; 29 ± 7,65 e 29,43 ± 7,04 dBNA e para recém-nascidos pré-termos foram de 31,96 ± 10,41; 34,13 ± 11,34; 33,64 ± 11,03 e 37,73 ± 11,92 dBNA, para as frequências de 500, 1000, 2000 e 4000 Hz, respectivamente. Houve diferenc¸a entre os grupos para a latência de P1i em 4000 Hz e os níveis mínimos de resposta em 500, 1000 e 4000 Hz, com valores maiores em Pré-termos. Conclusão: Foi possível obter valores de latência e amplitude em 80 dBnNA e o nível mínimo de resposta cortical em recém-nascidos a termo e Pré-termos, com resultados diferentes entre osgrupos, com valores maiores em pré-termos.

Abstract Introduction: The study of the threshold level of cortical auditory response in adults has been investigated in previous studies. Due to maturational issues, little is known about these responses in neonates. Technological advances with automatic analysis devices now allow investigation in specific populations. Thus, new studies are needed to establish the feasibility of using this auditory potential to identify the lowest levels of responses in children. Objective: Verify and compare latency and amplitude in 80 dBnNA and the minimum level of cortical auditory response in term and preterm neonates. Methods: A cross-sectional, comparative study involving 59 neonates, 35 full-term births and 24 preterm births, with positive results in the Neonatal Hearing Screening. The Hearlab system was used to investigate the P1i auditory potential with tone burst stimulus at frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz. The minimum response level search ranged from 80 to 0 dBNA and was detected automatically. The results were compared between groups, evaluating the latency and amplitude in 80 dBNA and the minimum level of cortical auditory response. Results: The mean values obtained for the minimum level of cortical auditory response in term group were 26 ± 8.81; 26.14 ± 6.97; 29 ± 7.65 and 29.43 ± 7.04 dBNA and for preterm neonates of 31.96 ± 10.41; 34.13 ± 11.34; 33.64 ± 11.03 and 37.73 ± 11.92 dBNA, for the frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz, respectively. There was a difference between groups for the latency of P1i at 4000 Hz and the minimum response levels at 500, 1000 and 4000 Hz, with higher values for preterm infants. Conclusion: It was possible to obtain latency and amplitude values at 80 dBnNA and the minimum level of cortical response in term and preterm newborns, with different results between groups, with higher values in those born preterm.

RESUMO Objetivo O objetivo desse estudo foi comparar a latência e amplitude do potencial evocado auditivo cortical P1i entre neonatos em estado de alerta e durante o sono leve. Métodos Vinte e cinco neonatos com emissões otoacústicas evocadas transientes presentes foram testados, por meio do potencial evocado auditivo cortical (PEAC), sendo dez em estado de alerta e 15 durante o sono leve. Para pesquisa dos potenciais corticais, utilizou-se o equipamento Hearlab System, de um canal, no módulo Cortical Tone Evaluation (CTE). O potencial P1i foi pesquisado de forma monoaural, na intensidade de 80 dBnNA, para as frequências de 500, 1000, 2000 e 4000Hz. A detecção do P1i foi feita de maneira automática pelo equipamento. A marcação da latência e amplitude foi realizada por três juízes. Resultados Não houve diferença estatisticamente significativa entre os dois grupos de neonatos para os valores de amplitude e latência, nas quatro frequências testadas. Conclusão Não houve influência do estado comportamental dos neonatos na avaliação do potencial cortical P1i.

ABSTRACT Purpose The aim of the present study was to compare latency and amplitude of the cortical auditory evoked response P1i among newborns in an alert state and during light sleep. Methods Twenty-five neonates with normal transient evoked otoacoustic emissions were tested with cortical auditory evoked potentials (CAEP): 10 were in an alert state and 15 in light sleep during testing. For the investigation of cortical potentials, a single-channel Hearlab System equipment, Cortical Tone Evaluation module (CTE), was used. The P1i potential was investigated monoaurally at an 80dBnHL intensity at 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz. P1i was automatically detected by the equipment. Latency and amplitude were marked by three judges. The responses of the newborn in an alert state were compared with those in light sleep. Results There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups of neonates for the amplitude and latency values at the four tested frequencies. Conclusion There was no influence of the neonates’ behavioral state on the evaluation of the P1i auditory cortical potential.

Resumo Introdução: O uso da amplificação sonora por pessoas com perda auditiva oferece uma melhor qualidade de vida. O acesso a esse recurso e o seu benefício podem ficar comprometidos no caso de pacientes que apresentem dificuldades ou limitações na avaliação audiológica tradicional comportamental, tais como neonatos e crianças pequenas, presença do espectro da neuropatia auditiva e do autismo, déficit intelectual e presença de estados demenciais de adultos e idosos. Essas populações (ou indivíduos) incapazes de participar de uma avaliação comportamental geram uma crescente demanda por métodos objetivos de avaliação auditiva. Os potenciais evocados auditivos corticais são usados há décadas, com a finalidade de estimar os limiares auditivos. Avanços tecnológicos atuais permitiram o desenvolvimento de equipamentos que possibilitam seu uso clínico, dotados de recursos que permitem maior precisão, sensibilidade e especificidade, além da possibilidade de detecção, análise e registro automatizados das respostas corticais. Objetivo: Determinar e correlacionar o limiar auditivo comportamental com o limiar auditivo cortical obtido em equipamento de análise automatizada das respostas. Método: Participaram do estudo 52 adultos, distribuídos em dois grupos: 21 com perda de grau moderado a severo (grupo estudo) e 31 com audição normal (grupo controle). Para o registro dos limiares comportamentais e corticais foi usado um equipamento dotado de um sistema com detecção, análise e registro automatizados das respostas corticais (HEARLab®). Os participantes permaneceram despertos, em um ambiente acusticamente tratado. Foram apresentados 150 estímulos tipo tone burst nas frequências de 500, 1.000, 2.000 e 4.000 Hz, por meio de fones de inserção em intensidades descendente-ascendente. O menor nível no qual o sujeito detectou a presença do estímulo sonoro foi definido como o limiar auditivo comportamental. O menor nível no qual uma resposta cortical estava presente foi definido como o limiar eletrofisiológico cortical. Essas duas respostas foram correlacionadas por meio da regressão linear. Resultados: O limiar eletrofisiológico cortical foi, em média, 7,8 dB superior ao comportamental para o grupo com perda auditiva e 14,5 dB superior, em média, para o grupo sem perda auditiva para todas as frequências estudadas. Conclusão: Os limiares eletrofisiológicos corticais obtidos por meio de um sistema de detecção automatizado de respostas estavam fortemente correlacionados com os limiares comportamentais no grupo de indivíduos com perda auditiva.

Abstract Introduction: The use of hearing aids by individuals with hearing loss brings a better quality of life. Access to and benefit from these devices may be compromised in patients who present difficulties or limitations in traditional behavioral audiological evaluation, such as newborns and small children, individuals with auditory neuropathy spectrum, autism, and intellectual deficits, and in adults and the elderly with dementia. These populations (or individuals) are unable to undergo a behavioral assessment, and generate a growing demand for objective methods to assess hearing. Cortical auditory evoked potentials have been used for decades to estimate hearing thresholds. Current technological advances have lead to the development of equipment that allows their clinical use, with features that enable greater accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity, and the possibility of automated detection, analysis, and recording of cortical responses. Objective: To determine and correlate behavioral auditory thresholds with cortical auditory thresholds obtained from an automated response analysis technique. Methods: The study included 52 adults, divided into two groups: 21 adults with moderate to severe hearing loss (study group); and 31 adults with normal hearing (control group). An automated system of detection, analysis, and recording of cortical responses (HEARLab®) was used to record the behavioral and cortical thresholds. The subjects remained awake in an acoustically treated environment. Altogether, 150 tone bursts at 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 Hz were presented through insert earphones in descending-ascending intensity. The lowest level at which the subject detected the sound stimulus was defined as the behavioral (hearing) threshold (BT). The lowest level at which a cortical response was observed was defined as the cortical electrophysiological threshold. These two responses were correlated using linear regression. Results: The cortical electrophysiological threshold was, on average, 7.8 dB higher than the behavioral for the group with hearing loss and, on average, 14.5 dB higher for the group without hearing loss for all studied frequencies. Conclusion: The cortical electrophysiological thresholds obtained with the use of an automated response detection system were highly correlated with behavioral thresholds in the group of individuals with hearing loss.

RESUMO Introdução O Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale (SSQ) é um questionário que avalia a experiências subjetivas e quantifica as inabilidades de escuta em situações de comunicação. Objetivo Realizar um estudo piloto da versão abreviada do questionário SSQ em Português Brasileiro, a fim de medir a limitação auditiva resultante da perda de audição. Métodos Foram selecionados 30 indivíduos, sendo 12 do gênero masculino e 18 do gênero feminino, com idades entre 18 e 89 anos, e escolaridade média de nove anos. Os indivíduos foram submetidos à audiometria tonal liminar, testes de logoaudiometria e medidas de imitanciometria. Foram distribuídos em dois grupos, segundo a audibilidade, sendo 15 com audição normal (NL) e 15 com perda auditiva (PA). Em seguida, todos responderam ao questionário SSQ, na sua versão abreviada com 12 itens, na forma de entrevista, pontuando de 0 a 10 o seu desempenho comunicativo, em cada situação questionada. Resultados Obtiveram-se escores médios de 6,68 e 4,13 para os grupos NL e PA, respectivamente. Os indivíduos com perda de audição apresentaram escores menores que os sujeitos com audição normal. Verificou-se alto coeficiente alpha de Cronbach em ambos os grupos, demonstrando boa consistência interna entre os diversos itens do questionário. Conclusão A versão reduzida com 12 itens do SSQ em Português Brasileiro mostrou-se sensível para diferenciar o desempenho de indivíduos com e sem perda auditiva, confirmando o seu potencial para avaliar as restrições em atividades auditivas e comunicativas enfrentadas pelo deficiente auditivo, no seu cotidiano.

ABSTRACT Introduction The Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale (SSQ) is a questionnaire that assesses subjective experience and quantifies hearing disabilities in communication situations. Purpose To carry out a pilot study of a short version of the SSQ questionnaire in Brazilian Portuguese to measure hearing disability resulting from hearing loss. Methods We selected 30 individuals, 12 males and 18 females, aged 18 to 89 years, with average education of nine years. The subjects underwent pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry tests and immittance measurements. Participants were divided into two groups according to hearing threshold, comprising 15 with normal hearing (NL) and 15 with hearing loss (HL). All participants answered the SSQ questionnaire - short version (12 items) - in the form of an interview, rating their communication performance in all situations assessed with a score of 0 to 10. Results The mean scores obtained were 6.68 and 4.13 for the NL and HL groups, respectively. Individuals with hearing loss had lower scores than subjects with normal hearing. A high Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was found in both groups, demonstrating good internal consistency between the different items of the questionnaire. Conclusion The short version of the SSQ in Brazilian Portuguese was sensitive in differentiating the performance of individuals with and without hearing loss, confirming its potential for assessing limitations in hearing and communication activities experienced by hearing-impaired individuals in their everyday lives.

Objetivo Traduzir e adaptar, culturalmente, o questionário Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale(SSQ) para o Português Brasileiro.Métodos Foi realizada a tradução, retrotradução, avaliação por comitê de especialistas e adaptação cultural (pré-teste). A fase de adaptação cultural constou da aplicação do questionário em 40 brasileiros adultos, normo-ouvintes e alfabetizados em português. Foram elaboradas duas versões do SSQ em português, a primeira aplicada no Grupo Piloto 1 (20 sujeitos) e, após revisão do comitê de especialistas, uma segunda versão foi aplicada no Grupo Piloto 2 (20 sujeitos). Para haver equivalência cultural do questionário, é necessário que 85% dos indivíduos não apresentem dificuldades para compreender as questões. A consistência interna do SSQ, em português, foi verificada por meio do coeficiente alfa de Cronbach.Resultados Foi identificada dificuldade de compreensão na questão 14 da Parte 2 e na questão 5 da Parte 3. As demais questões foram compreendidas por mais de 85% dos participantes. As questões problemáticas foram revistas e modificadas, de forma a não alterar o contexto. Na aplicação da versão final do SSQ foi obtida uma boa equivalência cultural para o Português Brasileiro, já que 91,6% dos participantes relataram fácil entendimento de todas as questões. A análise estatística revelou alto coeficiente alpha de Cronbach (>0,8), demonstrando boa consistência interna entre os diversos itens do questionário.Conclusão A metodologia empregada foi eficaz para estabelecer a tradução e equivalência cultural do SSQ para o Português Brasileiro.

Purpose To translate and culturally adapt the Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale (SSQ) for Brazilian Portuguese.Methods The processes of translation, back translation, evaluation by a committee of experts and cultural adaptation (pre-test) were performed. The cultural adaptation phase consisted of application of the questionnaire in 40 literate, non-hearing impaired, Brazilian adults. Two Portuguese versions of the SSQ were prepared: the first applied in Pilot Group 1 (20 subjects) and the second, after expert committee review, applied in Pilot Group 2 (20 subjects). Cultural equivalence of the questionnaire is reached when 85% of individuals have no difficulty understanding its questions. The internal consistency of the Portuguese SSQ was assessed using Cronbach's alpha.Results Comprehension difficulties were identified for question 14 of Part 2 and Question 5 of Part 3. The remaining questions were understood by more than 85% of the participants. The problematic questions were reviewed and modified without changing their context. The final version of the SSQ showed good cultural equivalence for Brazilian Portuguese, where 91.6% of participants reported ease of understanding of all questions. Statistical analysis revealed a high Cronbach's alpha coefficient (>0.8), confirming good internal consistency between the different items of the questionnaire.Conclusion The methodology employed was effective for producing the translation and verifying the cultural equivalence of the SSQ in Brazilian Portuguese.

Objetivo:Analisar a presença do potencial auditivo cortical e sua concordância com a detecção psicoacústica de sons de fala bem como a latência dos componentes P1, N1 e P2 apresentados em campo livre em adultos deficientes auditivos com e sem o uso da amplificação.Métodos:Foram avaliados 22 adultos com perda auditiva sensorioneural bilateral simétrica de grau moderado a severo, usuários regulares de prótese auditiva bilateral. Foram utilizados estímulos de fala de baixas (/m/), médias (/g/) e altas (/t/) frequências, apresentados em intensidades decrescentes de 75, 65 e 55 dBNPS em campo livre nas condições sem e com o uso de próteses auditivas. O equipamento utilizado realiza a detecção estatística automática da resposta; além disso, as latências das ondas P1, N1 e P2 foram marcadas e a percepção psicoacústica foi registrada.Resultados:Os resultados demonstraram o aumento da presença de resposta cortical na condição com prótese auditiva. Observou-se a concordância entre a percepção psicoacústica e a detecção automática de 91% para os sons /g/ e /t/ e variou de 73 a 86% para o som /m/. As médias das latências P1, N1 e P2 diminuíram tanto com o aumento da intensidade como com o uso da prótese auditiva para os três sons de fala. As diferenças foram significantes para os sons /g/ e /t/ na comparação sem e com prótese auditiva.Conclusão:Houve aumento da presença do potencial evocado auditivo cortical na condição com prótese auditiva. A detecção automática da presença de resposta cortical na condição com prótese auditiva apresentou 91% de concordância com a percepção psicoacústica do sinal de fala. Na análise das medidas de latência dos componentes P1, N1 e P2, observou-se a uma diminuição tanto com o aumento da intensidade do sinal como com o uso da amplificação para os três estímulos de fala /m/, /g/ e /t/.

Purpose:To analyze the presence of auditory cortical potential and its correlation with psychoacoustic detection of speech sounds as well as the latency of the P1, N1 e P2 components presented in free field in hearing impaired adults with and without amplification.Methods:We evaluated 22 adults with moderate to severe symmetrical bilateral sensorineural hearing loss, regular users of bilateral hearing aids. Speech sounds of low (/m/), medium (/g/) and high (/t/) frequencies were presented in sound field in decreasing intensities of 75, 65 and of 55 dBSPL in free field with and without hearing aids. The used equipment performs automatic statistical detection of the presence of response; forthermore, the latencies of waves P1, N1 e P2 were labeled and the psychoacoustic perception was registered.Results:The results demonstrated the increased presence of cortical response with hearing aids. We observed the correlation between psychoacoustic perception and automatic detection of 91% for the sounds /g/ and /t/ and ranged from 73 to 86% for the sound /m/. The averages of latencies P1-P2-N1 decreased with both increasing intensity and the use of hearing aids for the three sounds. The differences were significant for the sounds /g/ and /t/ in comparison with and without hearing aids.Conclusion:There was increase in the presence of cortical auditory evoked potential with hearing aids. Automatic detection of cortical response provided with hearing aids showed 91% agreement with the psychoacoustic perception of the speech signal. In the analysis of latency measures of the P1, N1 and P2 components, it was observed a decrease with the increase of the signal intensity and the use of amplification for the three speech stimuli /m/, /g/ and /t/.
