ABSTRACT Purpose: The extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) is produced by the bacterium Zoogloea sp. and plays a positive role in tissue repair. The purpose of this study was to clinically and histologically compare the effects of EPS in the healing of traumatic oral ulcers in rats with the effects of triamcinolone. Methods: Ulcers were induced in the oral mucous of 45 male Wistar rats, divided into three groups: control group, treated with triamcinolone, and treated with biopolymer gel. In the clinical evaluation, we considered the weight variation of the animals and the size of the lesion area, at baseline and on treatment days 1, 3 and 7. The histological parameters evaluated were the type and intensity of the inflammatory infiltration, the presence of necrosis and foreign body granuloma and the degree of re-epithelialization of the lesion. Results: The reduction of the lesion area was greater in the animals treated with EPS, with no difference in the intensity of the inflammatory infiltration between the groups on days 3 and 7 of treatment. Conclusions: The results suggest that topical application of EPS in traumatic oral ulcers of rats promotes faster repair than triamcinolone ointment, without increasing the intensity of inflammatory infiltration under the lesion. ABSTRACT Earth construction is an ancestral technique, which in recent years has attracted a lot of attention due to its sustainability, ease of execution and low-cost production. Compacted earth blocks (CEBs) are a current and modern construction technique based on ancient adobe and rammed earth construction techniques. On the other hand, phase change materials (PCM) have been successfully applied in different building materials, due to their ability to regulate the temperature inside buildings through their thermal storage capacity. In this way, the combination of compacted earth blocks and phase change materials allows for a constructive solution with all the advantages associated with earth construction, but also with a beneficial impact on the energy efficiency of buildings. Currently, there are several studies developed in earth construction and in materials with PCM incorporation, however the combination of these two techniques is still an underdeveloped area with high potential and research needs. In this research, different compositions of CEBs with direct incorporation of non-encapsulated PCM were developed and evaluated in the fresh and hardened state. The developed compositions were added with 25%, 50% and 75% of PCM in relation to the Portland cement content used to stabilize the BTCs. RESUMO A construção em terra é uma técnica ancestral, que nos últimos anos tem atraído muita atenção devido à sua sustentabilidade, facilidade de execução e baixo custo produtivo. Os blocos de terra compactada (BTCs) são uma técnica de construção moderna e atual, baseada nas antigas técnicas construtivas de adobe e taipa. Por sua vez, os materiais de mudança de fase (PCM) têm vindo a ser aplicados com sucesso em diferentes materiais de construção, devido à sua capacidade de regulação da temperatura no interior de edifícios por meio da sua capacidade de armazenamento térmico. Desta forma, a associação dos blocos de terra compactada e dos materiais de mudança de fase, permite obter uma solução construtiva com todas as vantagens associadas à construção em terra, mas também com impacto benéfico na eficiência energética dos edifícios. Atualmente, são várias as investigações desenvolvidas em construção em terra e em materiais aditivados com PCM, no entanto a combinação destas duas técnicas é ainda uma área subdesenvolvida, com elevado potencial e grande necessidade de investigação. Nesta investigação foram desenvolvidos e caracterizados BTCs com incorporação direta de PCM não encapsulado, tendo sido avaliadas diferentes composições no estado fresco e endurecido. This paper was based on Spinozian affections, mainly on the encounter with his book Ethics, published after his death, in 1677. Throughout the discussion, subject Education does not appear as an explicit concern, but seeks to reflect on life by means of the body in immanence mode, the knowledge of which is the most powerful of affections. By understanding that life is also made through education, we sought to establish a relationship between body, mind, knowledge, affection and education, having as main reference the work mentioned by Spinoza in the articulation of Deleuze's readings about him. For this purpose, the mapping of the body-mind, life and affections concepts was carried out. By means of encounters, whose natures of affections are either favorable to increase their power of being and acting, or to decrease them. The results show that the body is not a module governed only by the cognitive dimension guided by synaptic reactions, induced by response stimuli, but by the body-mind articulation, inseparably. It is concluded that in the Education process, be it in school or in the world of life, the student body needs to be involved in adequate, joyful encounters, which increase their power of being, thinking and acting, whose essence of being can be expressed in the transition from the first to the second genre with a view to the third genre of knowledge, which also corresponds to concern with life in its essence.

O artigo foi motivado por afecções spinozianas, sobretudo mediante o encontro com sua obra Ética, publicada após sua morte, em 1677. Na sua trajetória de discussão, a temática Educação não aparece como preocupação explícita; porém, observamos que ele procurou pensar a vida por meio do modo corpo na imanência, cujo conhecimento é o mais potente dos afetos. Ao entendermos que a vida se faz também pela educação, buscou-se estabelecer a relação entre corpo, mente, conhecimento, afeto e educação, tendo como referência principal a obra mencionada de Spinoza, na articulação das leituras de Deleuze a respeito daquele. Para tanto realizou-se o mapeamento das concepções de corpo-mente, de vida e de afecções. Pelos encontros, percebeu-se que as naturezas das afecções, ou são favoráveis para aumentar sua potência de ser e agir, ou para sua diminuição. Os resultados indicam que o corpo não é um módulo regido somente pela dimensão cognitiva e guiado pelas reações sinápticas, induzidas pelos estímulos respostas, mas pela articulação corpo-mente, indissociavelmente. Conclui-se que no processo de Educação, seja escolar, seja no mundo da vida, o corpo aluno precisa ser envolvido em encontros adequados, alegres, a fim de que lhe aumente a potência de ser, pensar e agir, cuja essência de ser possa ser expressa na transição do primeiro para o segundo gênero, com vista ao terceiro gênero do conhecimento, algo correspondente também a uma preocupação com a vida na sua essência.

This study aimed to develop a reliable stability-indicating method (SIM) for amoxicillin 500 mg capsules (DP-drug product). A literature review addressing amoxicillin (AMX; DS-drug substance) forced degradation studies and the existing SIMs was conducted to verify the most significant outcomes. Subsequently, the forced degradation of DP and DS was carried out following the Brazilian Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) guidelines, including thermal degradation (dry and wet heat), acidic and alkaline hydrolyses, hydrogen peroxide oxidation, reaction with copper, and photodegradation. Both DS and DP were more susceptible to 0.015 M NaOH, resulting in approximately 50% degradation. AMX DS and DP were not significantly photodegraded, but some degradation products (PDegs) showed susceptibility to light exposure. Thermodegraded samples showing ≥ 10% degradation exhibited modified profiles in thermogravimetric (TG) and differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) analyses. The X-ray powder diffraction patterns (XRPD) of DS samples exposed to dry and wet heat displayed complete amorphization of AMX, attesting to the occurrence of physical degradation concomitantly with chemical degradation, which can alter the drug’s bioavailability. In contrast, the thermodegraded DP samples exhibited intact AMX crystals interspersed with the amorphous form, perhaps partly protected by the excipient. The validated SIM was able to detect and quantify about 80 PDegs.

Resumen En este artículo reportamos la síntesis y caracterización estructural del sistema RE3Ba5Cu8O18 (RE = Dy, Gd, Ho, Sm, Y, Yb), lo que viene a complementar lo ya reportado por Aliabadi, et al., quienes lograron una temperatura crítica (TC) de ~ 100 K para el sistema superconductor Y3Ba5Cu8O18, y evaluó la respuesta estructural en una muestra. El nuevo sistema RE3Ba5Cu8O18 se obtuvo utilizando el método de reacción de estado sólido seguido de un proceso térmico similar al empleado para el superconductor RE: 123. Asimismo, los resultados experimentales obtenidos mediante la técnica de difracción de rayos X y el análisis de Rietveld evidenciaron que estas muestras tenían la estructura cristalina esperada; sin embargo, fue obvio que la presencia de fases no superconductoras no afectó la temperatura de transición superconductora. Además, los estudios magnéticos revelaron que las muestras de RE3Ba5Cu8O18 registraban una transición superconductora en el rango de 80 a 93 K dependiendo de la tierra rara.

Abstract In this paper, we report the synthesis and structural characterization of the RE3Ba5Cu8O18 (RE = Dy, Gd, Ho, Sm, Y, Yb) system, which adds to the findings reported by Aliabadi, et aL, who determined a critical temperature (TC) of ~ 100 K for the superconducting Y3Ba5Cu8O18 system and evaluated its structural response in a sample. The new RE3Ba5Cu8O18 system was produced using the solid-state reaction method and a similar thermal process as the one used for the superconductor RE: 123. The experimental results obtained with X-ray diffraction and the Rietveld analysis showed that these samples had the expected crystal structure. However, it was obvious that the presence of non-superconducting phases did not affect the superconducting transition temperature. Moreover, magnetic studies revealed that RE3Ba5Cu8O18 samples showed a superconductivity transition within a temperature range of 80 - 93 K depending on the rare earth.

Resumo Contexto A úlcera varicosa (UV) é o estágio mais avançado da doença venosa crônica (DVC) dos membros inferiores (MMII), frequentemente associada a episódios de hemorragia que podem provocar anemia crônica (AC) e retardar a sua cicatrização. Não há, na literatura, trabalhos que avaliem a prevalência da AC nos portadores de UV dos MMII, e poucos trabalhos analisam o uso da pentoxifilina no tratamento das UV dos MMII. Objetivos Avaliar a prevalência da AC nos pacientes portadores de UV de MMII e a resposta terapêutica ao sulfato ferroso (SF) e a associação da pentoxifilina com SF no tratamento adjuvante das UV dos MMII. Métodos Foram avaliados 67 pacientes portadores de UV de MMII atendidos no ambulatório de Cirurgia Vascular do Hospital das Clínicas, Recife, PE. Após as avaliações clínica e laboratorial iniciais, os pacientes diagnosticados com AC foram randomizados em dois grupos: o grupo controle, que recebeu SF (900 mg/dia via oral), e o grupo de estudo, tratado com SF (900 mg/dia via oral) e pentoxifilina (1.200 mg/dia). Todos foram reavaliados após 90 dias. Resultados Entre os pacientes avaliados, 27 (40%) apresentavam AC. Após o tratamento, foram observados aumento dos níveis de hemoglobina e de hematócrito e melhora das taxas da cinética do ferro, assim como a diminuição da profundidade e da área das UV em ambos os grupos, sem diferença estatística. Conclusões Foi encontrada alta prevalência de anemia na população estudada. A associação do SF com a pentoxifilina não se mostrou mais eficaz do que o emprego isolado do SF no tratamento adjuvante da UV dos MMII.

Abstract Background Venous ulcers (VU) are the most advanced stage of chronic venous disease (CVD) of the lower limbs. They are frequently associated with episodes of hemorrhage that can provoke chronic anemia (CA), delaying healing. There are no studies in the literature analyzing the prevalence of CA among patients with VU of the lower limbs and few studies have analyzed use of pentoxifylline to treat VU of the lower limbs. Objectives To evaluate the prevalence of CA in patients with lower limb VU and responses to treatment with ferrous sulfate (SF) compared with a combination of SF plus pentoxifylline as adjuvant treatment for VU of the lower limbs. Methods A total of 67 patients with lower limb VU were recruited from a Lymphedema and Angiodysplasia Clinic at the Hospital das Clínicas, Recife, PE, Brazil. After initial clinical and laboratory assessments, patients diagnosed with CA were randomized into one of two groups: a control group, given SF (900 mg/day oral route), or a study group, treated with SF (900 mg/day oral route) and pentoxifylline (1,200 mg/day). All were reassessed after 90 days. Results Twenty-seven patients (40%) had CA. After treatment, increases were observed in hemoglobin and hematocrit levels, iron kinetics had improved, and both depth and area of VU had reduced in both groups, without statistically significant differences. Conclusions A high prevalence of anemia was detected in the study population. The combination of SF and pentoxifylline was not more effective than SF alone for adjuvant treatment of VU of the lower limbs.

RESUMO Atualmente, é necessário estudar soluções construtivas com bom comportamento a baixas e elevadas temperaturas, ou seja que as argamassas não percam totalmente a sua resistência quando sujeitas a temperaturas diferentes e mais exigentes do que as temperaturas de operação. No que diz respeito ao conhecimento das capacidades de armazenamento térmico dos materiais de mudança de fase (PCM), foram desenvolvidas quatro composições distintas baseadas em cimento e cinzas volantes, nas quais foram incorporados diretamente diferentes teores de PCM não encapsulado (0%, 5%, 10% e 20%). Estas composições foram testadas a baixas e elevadas temperaturas (-18ºC, 20ºC, 200ºC, 400ºC e 600ºC), através de ensaios de gelo-degelo e ensaios de compressão e flexão. Foi possível concluir que a incorporação de PCM não encapsulado originou uma melhoria do comportamento a baixas temperaturas, mantendo um comportamento idêntico ao das argamassas de referência quando submetidas a elevadas temperaturas.

ABSTRACT Currently, it is necessary to study constructive solutions with good behavior to low and high temperatures exposure, namely that the mortar not completely lose their strength when subjected to different and more demanding temperatures than the operating temperatures. Concerning the knowledge of the phase change materials (PCM) thermal storage capacities, four different compositions based in cement and fly ash were developed inserting different contents of non-encapsulated PCM (0%, 5%, 10% and 20%), by direct incorporation. These compositions were tested to low and high temperatures (-18ºC, 20ºC, 200ºC, 400ºC and 600ºC), through freeze-thaw and compressive and flexural tests. It was possible to conclude that the incorporation of non-encapsulated PCM leads to an improvement of the behavior to the freeze-thaw tests, maintaining an identical behavior to reference mortars when subjected to high temperatures.

Abstract Two species of Oniscidea are recorded for the state of Paraíba for the first time. Cubaris murina Brandt, 1833 from Campina Grande and Cabaceiras and Porcellionides pruinosus (Brandt, 1833) from Campina Grande. Moreover, Alloniscus buckupi Campos-Filho & Cardoso, 2018 and Atlantoscia floridana (Van Name, 1940) have their distribution extended, and a short discussion about the record of A. buckupi in a semiarid area is provided.

Resumo Fundamento: A fibrilação auricular de novo no contexto de infarto agudo do miocárdio representa um importante desafio com potencial impacto prognóstico. Objetivo: Determinar a incidência, impacto na terapêutica e mortalidade, e identificar possíveis preditores do aparecimento de fibrilação auricular de novo durante o internamento por infarto agudo do miocárdio com supradesnivelamento do segmento ST. Métodos: Estudamos todos os pacientes com infarto agudo do miocárdio com supradesnivelamento do segmento ST inseridos consecutivamente de 2010 a 2017 num registro nacional português e comparamos dois grupos: 1 - sem fibrilação auricular; 2- com fibrilação auricular de novo. Efetuamos análise com modelo de regressão logística para avaliar o impacto de fibrilação auricular de novo na mortalidade intra-hospitalar e identificar preditores independentes para o seu aparecimento. Para teste de hipóteses, considerou-se significativo p < 0,05. Resultados: Estudamos 6325 pacientes, dos quais 365 (5.8%) apresentaram fibrilação auricular de novo. Não houve diferença no número de pacientes reperfundidos nem na estratégia de reperfusão. No grupo 2, terapêutica com betabloqueadores e IECA/ARA foi menos frequente, 20.6% tiveram alta sob anticoagulação oral e 16.1% sob terapêutica tripla. A fibrilação auricular de novo associou-se a maior incidência de complicações e mortalidade intra-hospitalar, mas não foi preditor independente de mortalidade intra-hospitalar. Identificamos idade, acidente vascular cerebral prévio, infarto inferior e bloqueio auriculoventricular completo como preditores independentes de fibrilação auricular de novo. Conclusões: A fibrilação auricular de novo continua sendo uma complicação frequente do infarto agudo do miocárdio, estando associada a aumento das complicações e mortalidade intra-hospitalar. Apenas 36.7% desses pacientes teve alta sob anticoagulação.

Abstract Backgrund: New-onset atrial fibrillation complicating acute myocardial infarction represents an important challenge, with prognostic significance. Objective: To study the incidence, impact on therapy and mortality, and to identify predictors of development of new-onset atrial fibrillation during hospital stay for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. Methods: We studied all patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction included consecutively, between 2010 and 2017, in a Portuguese national registry and compared two groups: 1 - no atrial fibrillation and 2 - new-onset atrial fibrillation. We adjusted a logistic regression model data analysis to assess the impact of new-onset atrial fibrillation on in-hospital mortality and to identify independent predictors of its development. A p value < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: We studied 6325 patients, and new-onset atrial fibrillation was found in 365 (5.8%). Reperfusion was successfully accomplished in both groups with no difference regarding type of reperfusion. In group 2, therapy with beta-blockers and angiotensin-conversion enzyme (ACE) inhibitors/angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) was less frequent, 20.6% received anticoagulation at discharge and 16.1% were on triple therapy. New-onset atrial fibrillation was associated with more in-hospital complications and mortality. However, it was not found as an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality. We identified age, prior stroke, inferior myocardial infarction and complete atrioventricular block as independent predictors of new-onset atrial fibrillation. Conclusion: New-onset atrial fibrillation remains a frequent complication of myocardial infarction and is associated with higher rate of complications and in-hospital mortality. Age, prior stroke, inferior myocardial infarction and complete atrioventricular block were independent predictors of new onset atrial fibrillation. Only 36.7% of the patients received anticoagulation at discharge.

SUMMARY: Peripheral nerve regeneration is a serious clinical problem. The goal of this work was to evaluate comparatively a biopolymer tube of sugarcane with an expanded polyethylene tube as a tube guide in peripheral nerve regeneration. Fourteen male albino Wistar rats were used, separated into three different groups: control (CG), lesion + polyethylene tube (PG) and lesion + sugarcane biopolymer (SBG). At 60 days old, animals from the PG and SBG underwent surgery for tubulization of the sciatic nerve, and 60 days after the injury they were sacrificed for collection of the nerve. In the analysis of the number of nerve fibers, a smaller number was seen in the PG and SBG groups compared to the CG, no difference was seen between the PG and SBG groups (p<0.05). With regard to the number of blood vessels, the SBG group had a larger number than the CG and PG groups (p<0.05). The SBG also presented increase on axonal diameter and G -ratio compared to PG (p<0.05). Taken together these data revealed that biopolymer tube favors a suitable environment for peripheral nerve regeneration.

RESUMEN: La regeneración nerviosa periférica es un problema clínico grave. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar comparativamente un tubo de biopolímero de caña de azúcar con un tubo de polietileno expandido, como guía de tubo en la regeneración de nervios periféricos. Se utilizaron dieciocho ratas Wistar albinas macho, separadas en tres grupos: control (CG), lesión + tubo de polietileno (PG) y lesión + biopolímero de caña de azúcar (SBG). A los 60 días de edad, los animales del PG y SBG fueron sometidos a una cirugía para la tubulización del nervio ciático, y 60 días después de la lesión fueron sacrificados para la recolección del nervio. En el análisis del número de fibras nerviosas, se observó un número menor en los grupos PG y SBG en comparación con el CG; no se observaron diferencias entre los grupos PG y SBG (p <0,05). Con respecto al número de vasos sanguíneos, el grupo SBG tuvo un número mayor que los grupos CG y PG (p <0,05). El SBG también presentó un aumento en el diámetro axonal y la proporción G en comparación con PG (p <0,05). En conjunto, estos datos revelaron que el tubo de biopolímero favorece un entorno adecuado para la regeneración de nervios periféricos.

RESUMO O setor residencial encontra-se muitas vezes envelhecido, apresentando necessidades de intervenções urgen-tes. Assim, torna-se importante reabilitar edifícios do ponto de vista estrutural, estético e funcional. A reabili-tação térmica é uma importante oportunidade para atingir níveis mais elevados de desempenho energético, reduzindo a elevada dependência energética dos países. As operações de reabilitação baseadas na utilização de materiais com capacidade de armazenamento e liberação de energia contribuem para a obtenção de edifí-cios mais eficientes em termos energéticos. Combinando a utilização de materiais inteligentes e fontes de energia renováveis, é possível aumentar o conforto térmico dentro dos edifícios. O principal objetivo deste trabalho consistiu na caracterização física, mecânica e térmica de argamassas baseadas em ligantes específi-cos para reabilitação, com incorporação de materiais de mudança de fase (PCM). Foram estudadas argamas-sas à base de cal aérea e gesso, sendo que, para cada ligante, foram desenvolvidas argamassas com e sem incorporação de PCM. Observou-se que a incorporação de PCM nas argamassas originou diferenças no seu comportamento físico, mecânico e térmico. Verificou-se uma diminuição das resistências à flexão e compres-são, assim como uma melhorado comportamento térmico, reduzindo a temperatura máxima, aumentando a temperatura mínima e diminuindo as necessidades de aquecimento e arrefecimento.

ABSTRACT The residential sector is sometimes old, with urgent intervention needs. Thus, it is important to rehabilitate buildings from a structural, aesthetic and functional point of view. The thermal rehabilitation is an important opportunity to reach higher levels of energetic performance, reducing the high energetic dependence of the countries. Rehabilitation operations based in the utilization of materials with the capability to store and re-lease energy contribute to obtain more energy efficient buildings. Combining the use of smart materials and renewable energy sources, it is possible to increase the thermal comfort inside the buildings. The main pur-pose of this study was the physical, mechanical and thermal characterization of mortars based in specific binders for rehabilitation with incorporation of phase change materials (PCM). Mortars based in aerial lime and gypsum were studied. For each binder, mortars with and without incorporation of PCM were developed. It was observed that the incorporation of PCM in mortars caused differences in the physical, mechanical and thermal behavior. It was verified a decrease in the flexural and compressive strengths, and an increase in the thermal behavior, reducing the maximum temperature, increasing the minimum temperature and decreasing the heating and cooling needs.

RESUMO Actualmente, existem várias argamassas disponiveis para aplicação na industria da construção. Estas argamassas podem ser baseadas em diferentes ligantes, possuir diferentes propriedades fisicas e mecânicas e até mesmo outras propriedades especificas. Contudo, a correta selecção de uma argamassa torna-se cada vez mais dificil. Assim, surge a necessidade de classificar diferentes argamassas com base em critérios especificos e num procedimento único. Desta forma, será possivel identificar as argamassas mais apropriadas de acordo com a sua função. Neste trabalho foi utilizado um procedimento de classificação de materiais desenvolvido por Czarnecki e Lukowski, com base numa função de usabilidade. O procedimento de classificação transforma os resultados experimentais de várias propriedades num único valor numérico. Desta forma, os produtos de construção podem ser classificados de acordo com as suas propriedades individuais ou uma combinação optimizada de várias propriedades. Assim, o principal objectivo deste estudo consiste na classificação de argamassas à base de diferentes ligantes com incorporação de materiais de mudança de fase (PCM). Os ligantes estudados foram a cal hidráulica, gesso e cimento. Para cada ligante foram desenvolvidas três argamassas distintas, uma argamassa de referência (0% PCM), uma argamassa com incorporação de 40% de PCM e uma argamassa com incorporação de 40% de PCM e 1% de fibras. Com base nos resultados foi possivel concluir que a incorporação de PCM afecta o desempenho global das argamassas.

ABSTRACT Currently, there are several mortars available for application in the construction industry. These mortars can be based on different binders, have different physical and mechanical properties and even other specific properties. However, the correct selection of a mortar becomes increasingly difficult. Thus, comes up the need to classify different mortars based on a specific criteria and a single procedure. In this way, it will be possible to identify the most appropriate mortars according to their function. In this research, a materials ranking procedure developed by Czarnecki and Lukowski is applied, based on an usability function. The ranking procedure transforms experimental results of properties into one numerical value. The products can be classified according to their individual properties or even an optimized combination of different properties. Thus, the main purpose of this study was the ranking of mortars based in different binders with incorporation of phase change materials. Hydraulic lime, gypsum and cement were the binders studied. For each binder, three different mortars were developed, reference mortars (0% PCM), mortars with incorporation of 40% of PCM and mortars with incorporation of 40% of PCM and 1% of fibers. Based on the results it was possible to conclude that the incorporation of PCM in mortars changes their global performance.

RESUMO Atualmente, a indústria da construção é um dos principais setores europeus responsáveis pelos elevados níveis de consumo de energia, extração de matérias-primas e produção de resíduos. Cada vez mais o consumo de energia proveniente de fontes renováveis e a reutilização de resíduos industriais constituem a única maneira de minimizar este problema para o meio ambiente e sociedade. A incorporação simultânea de materiais de mudança de fase (PCM) e cinzas volantes (FA) em argamassas permite aumentar a eficiência energética nos edifícios e diminuir a quantidade de extração de matérias-primas e de resíduos depositados em aterro. O desenvolvimento de argamassas com incorporação de PCM e cinzas volantes contribui para uma melhoria significativa dos parâmetros de conforto no interior de edifícios e do meio ambiente. O PCM permite regular a temperatura no interior dos edifícios utilizando como recurso apenas energia solar, diminuindo as necessidades de utilização de equipamentos de climatização. O PCM possui a capacidade de absorver e liberar energia para o meio ambiente. O principal objetivo deste trabalho consistiu na caracterização física, mecânica e térmica de argamassas com incorporação de PCM e FA. Foi possível concluir que a incorporação simultânea de PCM e FA permitiu obter argamassas homogêneas e adequadas, com boas propriedades físicas e mecânicas e um comportamento térmico melhorado quando comparadas às argamassas sem incorporação e apenas com incorporação de PCM.

ABSTRACT Nowadays, the construction industry is the one of the main European sector responsible for the higher levels of energy consumption, raw materials extraction and waste production. Increasingly the consumption of energy from renewable sources and reusing industrial wastes is the only way to minimize this problem for the environment and society. The simultaneous incorporation of phase change materials (PCM) and fly ash (FA) in mortars allow increase the energy efficiency in buildings and decrease the amount of the raw materials extraction and waste materials landfilled. The development of mortars with incorporation of PCM and fly ash contributes to a significant improvement of the comfort parameters inside buildings and in the environment. The PCM allow regulating the temperature inside buildings using only solar energy as a resource, decreasing the air conditioning needs. The PCM has the capability to absorb and release energy for the environment. The main purpose of this study was the physical, mechanical and thermal characterization of mortars with incorporation of PCM and FA. It was concluded that the simultaneous incorporation of PCM and FA leads to homogenous and suitable mortars, with good physical and mechanical properties and an increased thermal behavior when compared to the mortars without incorporation of PCM and only with incorporation of PCM.

RESUMO Objetivo: avaliar o uso do curativo de filme e gel de biopolímero de celulose bacteriana no tratamento de pacientes com feridas isquêmicas submetidos à revascularização dos membros inferiores. Métodos: ensaio clínico randomizado realizado no ambulatório de Angiologia e Cirurgia Vascular do Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, entre janeiro de 2017 e dezembro de 2018. Foram acompanhados 24 pacientes após revascularização de membros inferiores, divididos em dois grupos: Experimental, tratado com filme e gel de biopolímero de celulose bacteriana, e Controle, tratado com ácidos graxos essenciais. Os pacientes foram acompanhados em consultas semanais para troca dos curativos e o processo de cicatrização das feridas foi avaliado em um período de 90 dias. Resultados: a redução da área das feridas isquêmicas no período de 30 dias foi de 4,3cm2 (55%), em média, para o grupo experimental, e de 5,5cm2 (48,5%) para o grupo controle (p>0,05). A taxa de cicatrização completa, em 90 dias, foi de 34,8%, sendo 50% no grupo experimental e 18,2% no grupo controle (p=0,053). Conclusão: o filme de biopolímero de celulose bacteriana associada a gel pode ser utilizado como curativo no tratamento de feridas isquêmicas de pacientes submetidos à revascularização de membros inferiores

ABSTRACT Objective: to evaluate the use of a bacterial cellulose biopolymer film and gel dressing in the treatment of patients with ischemic wounds submitted to lower limb revascularization. Methods: we conducted a randomized clinical trial in the Angiology and Vascular Surgery outpatient clinic of the Clinics Hospital of the Federal University of Pernambuco, between January 2017 and December 2018. We followed 24 patients after lower limb revascularization, divided into two groups: Experimental, treated with bacterial cellulose biopolymer film and gel, and Control, treated with essential fatty acids. Patients attended weekly appointments to change dressings and had their wound healing processes evaluated over a period of 90 days. Results: the reduction of the ischemic wounds’ areas after 30 days was 4.3cm2 (55%) on average for the experimental group, and the 5.5cm2 (48.5%) for the control group (p>0.05). The complete healing rate at 90 days was 34.8%, 50% in the experimental group and 18.2% in the control group (p=0.053). Conclusion: the bacterial cellulose biopolymer film associated with gel can be used as a dressing in the treatment of ischemic wounds of patients undergoing revascularization of the lower limbs.

Introdução: As doenças cardiovasculares são a principal causa de morte em Portugal. Vários estudos referem o Padrão Alimentar Mediterrânico como protetor das doenças cardiovasculares. Objetivos: Aferir a adesão ao Padrão Alimentar Mediterrânico e caracterizar o estado nutricional de uma amostra de doentes internados no Hospital Espírito Santo de Évora, E.P.E. que sofreram enfarte agudo do miocárdio. Metodologia: Estudo transversal. Amostra composta por 42 doentes com enfarte agudo do miocárdio internados no Hospital Espírito Santo de Évora, E.P.E., entre fevereiro e abril de 2018. Aferiu-se a escolaridade e mediu-se o peso, a altura e o perímetro abdominal. Para aferir a adesão ao Padrão Alimentar Mediterrânico foi aplicado o MedDietScore e para caracterizar a alimentação foi aplicado um Questionário de Frequência Alimentar, previamente validado para a população adulta portuguesa. Resultados: A média de idades dos homens e mulheres foi de 65,3 anos±10,2 e de 70,5 anos±11,3, respetivamente. O índice de massa corporal da amostra teve uma média de 28,5 Kg/m2±4,6 (no caso das mulheres de 29,6 Kg/m2±5,4 e no caso dos homens de 28,0 Kg/m2±4,3). Dos 25 idosos, 64% apresentou excesso de peso e dos 17 adultos, 76,5% apresentou excesso de peso. A mediana do perímetro abdominal dos homens foi de 100,0 cm e a mediana do perímetro abdominal das mulheres foi de 102,0 cm. Foi encontrado um perímetro abdominal >88 cm em 100% das mulheres. Nos homens, 44,8% possuía um perímetro abdominal >102 cm e em 24,1% foi encontrado um perímetro abdominal >94 cm. Apenas 19,1% dos inquiridos apresentaram uma adesão elevada ao Padrão Alimentar Mediterrânico. O consumo de carne vermelha foi superior ao consumo de carne branca ou de peixe [64,3 (P25=17,13; P75=77,15) g/dia vs. 31,7(P25=12,0; P75=68,6) g/dia e 14,3(P25=6,9; P75=31,4) g/dia]. Conclusões: A maioria da amostra apresentou excesso de peso (69,0%), possuía um perímetro abdominal com risco de doenças cardiovasculares associado e 80,9% não apresentou uma elevada adesão ao Padrão Alimentar Mediterrânico.

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death in Portugal. Various studies point the Mediterranean diet as the protector of the cardiovascular diseases. Objectives: Evaluate the adherence to the Mediterranean diet and characterize the nutritional state of a sample of patients hospitalized at Hospital Espírito Santo de Évora, E.P.E. who suffered acute myocardial infarction. Methodology: Transversal study. Sample from 42 patients with myocardial infarction admitted at Hospital Espírito Santo de Évora, E.P.E., between February and April of 2018. Data on education, weight, height and the waist circumference were collected. Regarding the adherence to the Mediterranean diet MedDietScore was applied. To characterize the food pattern the alimentation frequency quiz was applied. Results: The average age of men and women was 65,3 years old±10,2 and 70,5 years old±11,3, respectively. The body mass index of the sample had an average of 28,5 Kg/m2±4,6 (29,6 Kg/m2±5,4 in women and 28,03 Kg/m2±4,3 in men). From the 25 elderly, 64% were overweight and from the 17 adults, 76,5% were overweight as well. The waist circumference median on men was of 100,0 cm and on women was of 102,0 cm. A waist circumference >88 cm was found in 100% of women. In 44.8% of men was found a waist circumference >102 cm and in 24.1% was found a waist circumference >94 cm. Only 19.1% of those who were surveyed presented a high adherence to Mediterranean diet. The consumption of red meat was higher than the consumption of white meat or fish [64,3 (P25=17,13; P75=77,15) g/day vs. 31,7(P25=12,0; P75=68,6) g/day e 14,3(P25=6,9;P75=31,4) g/day]. Conclusions: The majority of the sample participants were overweight (69,0%), had a waist circumference indicative of cardiovascular diseases, and 80,9% did not present a high adherence to the Mediterranean diet.
