Abstract The objective was to evaluate the chemical composition and in vitro fermentation of spineless cactus of the genus Nopalea, F-21 (Nopalea cochenillifera Dyck), IPA-Sertânia (Nopalea cochenillifera Dyck) and Miúda (Nopalea cochenillifera Salm Dyck), in different phenophases. There was no effect (P < 0.05) of the phenological phases of spineless cactus on DM, ash, OM, EE, and CP. Varieties F-21 and Miúda presented higher values of DM and OM, whereas the CP was higher for IPA-Sertânia. The contents of NDF, ADF, and ADL, as well as the fractions of carbohydrates B2 and C were higher in the mature stage, irrespective of the variety. The Miúda variety showed higher levels of NFC and fractions A + B1 and the lower levels of pectin compared to the F-21 and IPA-Sertânia varieties, but not differ of TC to F-21. The volume of gas produced via the degradation of NFC was higher for young phenological phases. The young and intermediate stages showed a higher in vitro digestibility of DM. Based on the results, varieties IPA-Sertânia and Miúda have a high potential for use in animal feed because of their high nutritional quality. Mature cladodes showed a higher fibrous fraction and lower digestibility in all varieties. Foram avaliados os efeitos de diferentes lâminas de irrigação e doses de azoto (N) sobre a produtividade, eficiência do uso do azoto (EUN) e composição bromatológica do Panicum maximum cv. Mombaça. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 2x4, com três repetições, sendo dois níveis de irrigação (50% e 80% da evaporação do Tanque Classe “A”, ECA) e quatro doses de N (200, 400, 600 e 800 kg/ha/ano). As lâminas de irrigação aplicadas apresentaram comportamentos semelhantes em relação à EUN, produção de matéria seca total (PMST), de folhas (PMSF) e colmos (PMSC), e teores de fibra em detergente neutro (FDN). A adubação azotada influenciou positivamente a PMST, PMSF e PMSC, no entanto, diminuiu a EUN. Os teores de proteína bruta (PB) das folhas e colmos foram influenciados pela interação lâminas de irrigação x adubação azotada. Houve efeito linear do N sobre os teores de PB. Os teores de fibra em detergente ácido (FDA) apresentaram influência negativa da maior lâmina de irrigação e foram reduzidos pela adubação azotada. A irrigação de 50% da ECA, associada à aplicação de 800 kg de N/ha/ano, apresentou os melhores resultados, considerando-se a produtividade, composição bromatológica e economia de água.

The effects of different irrigation levels and doses of nitrogen (N) on yield, nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) and chemical composition of Mombasa grass (Panicum maximum) were evaluated. The experimental design was randomized blocks in a 2x4 factorial, with three replicates, two water levels (50% and 80% of Class A pan evaporation, ECA) and four levels of N (200, 400, 600 and 800 kg / ha / year). The water depth applied showed similar behaviors regarding NUE, total dry matter yield (TDMY), leaves (DMYL) and stems (DMYS), and levels of neutral detergent fiber (NDF). The nitrogen fertilization influenced positively TDMY, DMYL and DMYS, however, decreased NUE. Crude protein (CP) of the leaves and stems were influenced by the interaction of blades irrigation x nitrogen fertilization. There was a linear effect of N on the PB. The levels of acid detergent fiber (ADF) had negative influence of greater water depth. Concentrations of ADF were reduced by nitrogen fertilization. Irrigation of 50% of ECA, associated with application of 800 kg N / ha / year, showed the best results, considering productivity, chemical composition and water savings.

Estudos vêm sendo realizados com o objetivo de se estabelecer maior economia de água no manejo da irrigação sem, no entanto, prejudicar o rendimento das culturas, o que serviu de base para a realização do presente trabalho, visando-se avaliar o rendimento do algodoeiro (Gossypium hirsutum L. r. latifolium Hutch) e a eficiência no uso da água pela cultura, sob diferentes estratégias de irrigação. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, utilizando-se da cultivar CNPA-7H Precoce, cultivada em vaso plástico, contendo 20 kg de solo seco ao ar. As estratégias de irrigação foram estabelecidas levando-se em consideração a água disponível no solo, a frequência de irrigação e a supressão da irrigação na floração e no desenvolvimento das maçãs. Avaliaram-se: consumo de água, peso de capulho, rendimento, índice de colheita e eficiência no uso da água e, segundo os resultados obtidos, o consumo hídrico, influenciado pelas estratégias de irrigação, proporcionou variações expressivas em todos os parâmetros estudados, sendo a época da supressão da irrigação o fator determinante sobre a eficiência de uso da água.

Studies have been carried out on efficient water use in irrigation. The present study evaluates the yield of cotton plants (Gossypium hirsutum L. r. latifolium Hutch), and the use of water for different irrigation strategies. The experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions, and the cultivar used was CNPA-7H Precocious grown in plastic pots; each pot contained 20 kg of dry soil. The irrigation strategies were selected by taking into account the available water in the soil, the irrigation frequency and the irrigation suppression during flowering and boll development. Water consumption, boll weight, yield, harvest index and water use efficiency were evaluated and the results showed that water consumption resulting from the irrigation strategies used brought expressive variations in the studied parameters. In all strategies, irrigation suppression was the decisive factor in evaluating the water use efficiency.
