OBJETIVO: Verificar as habilidades de narrativa oral em pré-escolares, antes e após estimulação de linguagem. MÉTODOS: Foram analisadas narrativas de 58 pré-escolares. O estudo foi desenvolvido em três etapas: 1. Etapa pré-estimulação (Momento 1) - os pré-escolares produziram a primeira narrativa autônoma a partir de uma sequência de figuras e a segunda narrativa autônoma após tutela do adulto; 2. Etapa de estimulação - foi realizada a leitura de histórias infantis em grupo, semanalmente, durante dez semanas; 3. Etapa pós-estimulação (Momento 2) - foi repetido o procedimento da primeira etapa. A análise dos resultados considerou: a ocorrência de eventos centrais e secundários; a conduta justificativa/explicativa, classificada segundo causas físicas, regras morais/sociais e estado interno; a expressão e retificação de falsas crenças, analisadas por meio da conduta justificativa/explicativa de estado interno. RESULTADOS: Houve aumento na ocorrência de eventos centrais no Momento 2, e após a tutela, com decréscimo de eventos secundários comparando-se os dois momentos e a presença da tutela. Em relação à conduta justificativa/explicativa, não houve diferenças para as justificativas do tipo físico, regras sociais/morais e estado interno. A conduta justificativa/explicativa do tipo estado interno foi a tipologia predominantemente encontrada em todas as narrativas. CONCLUSÃO: A leitura de histórias infantis e a tutela do adulto contribuem para o aumento da ocorrência de eventos nas narrativas autônomas. Não há variação na tipologia da conduta justificativa/explicativa nas narrativas. A tipologia de conduta justificativa/explicativa de estado interno é predominantemente utilizada pelos pré-escolares.

PURPOSE: To verify the oral narrative abilities in preschoolers, before and after language stimulation. METHODS: Participants were 58 preschoolers. The study was developed in three stages: 1. Pre-stimulation stage (Moment 1) - preschoolers produced the first autonomous narrative based on a sequence of pictures, and the second under adult scaffolding; 2. Stimulation stage - it was conducted a weekly reading of children's stories in group, for ten weeks; 3. Post-stimulation stage (Moment 2): the same procedure of the first stage was repeated. The results analysis considered: the occurrence of central and secondary events; the accountable/explicable conduct, classified according to physical causes, moral/social rules and internal state; the attribution and rectification of false beliefs, analyzed by the internal state's accountable/explicable conduct. RESULTS: There was an increase in the occurrence of central events in Moment 2 as well as after the adult scaffolding, with decrease of secondary events comparing both moments and after the scaffolding. Regarding the accountable/explicable conduct, no differences were found between physical, social/moral rules, and internal state conducts. The internal state accountable/explicable conduct was predominantly found in all the autonomous narratives. CONCLUSION: Both the reading of children's stories and the adult scaffolding contribute to the increase in the occurrence of events in autonomous narratives. There is no variation on the type of accountable/explicable conduct in the narratives. The internal state accountable/explicable conduct is predominantly used by preschoolers.

OBJETIVO: Analisar o impacto de treino auditivo na avaliação perceptivo-auditiva da voz realizada por estudantes de Fonoaudiologia. MÉTODOS: Durante dois semestres, 17 estudantes que cursavam disciplinas teóricas de fonação (Fonação/Distúrbios da Fonação) analisaram amostras de vozes alteradas e não alteradas (selecionadas para este estudo), por meio da escala GRBAS. Todos receberam treinamento auditivo durante um total de nove encontros semanais, com cerca de 15 minutos de duração cada. Em cada encontro foi apresentado um parâmetro, por meio de vozes diferentes da amostra avaliada, com predominância no aspecto treinado. A avaliação das amostras por meio da escala foi realizada pré e pós o treinamento e em outros quatro momentos ao longo dos encontros. As avaliações dos alunos foram comparadas com uma avaliação de juízas, realizada previamente por três fonoaudiólogos, especialistas em voz. Para verificar a efetividade do treinamento foi usado o teste de Friedman e Índice de Concordância Kappa. RESULTADOS: O índice de acertos dos alunos no momento pré-treinamento foi considerado entre regular e bom. Observou-se manutenção do número de acertos ao longo das avaliações realizadas, para a maioria dos parâmetros da escala. No momento pós-treinamento observou-se melhora na análise da astenia, parâmetro enfatizado a partir das dificuldades apresentadas pelos alunos. Houve diminuição dos acertos no parâmetro rugosidade após este ter sido trabalhado de maneira segmentada em rouquidão e aspereza, e associado a diferentes diagnósticos e parâmetros acústicos. CONCLUSÃO: O treino auditivo potencializa as habilidades iniciais dos alunos, refinando-as para realização da avaliação, além de nortear ajustes em dinâmicas das disciplinas.

PURPOSE: To analyze the impact of auditory training for auditory-perceptual assessment carried out by Speech-Language Pathology undergraduate students. METHODS: During two semesters, 17 undergraduate students enrolled in theoretical subjects regarding phonation (Phonation/Phonation Disorders) analyzed samples of altered and unaltered voices (selected for this purpose), using the GRBAS scale. All subjects received auditory training during nine 15-minute meetings. In each meeting, a different parameter was presented using the different voices sample, with predominance of the trained aspect in each session. Sample assessment using the scale was carried out before and after training, and in other four opportunities throughout the meetings. Students' assessments were compared to an assessment carried out by three voice-experts speech-language pathologists who were the judges. To verify training effectiveness, the Friedman's test and the Kappa index were used. RESULTS: The rate of correct answers in the pre-training was considered between regular and good. It was observed maintenance of the number of correct answers throughout assessments, for most of the scale parameters. In the post-training moment, the students showed improvements in the analysis of asthenia, a parameter that was emphasized during training after the students reported difficulties analyzing it. There was a decrease in the number of correct answers for the roughness parameter after it was approached segmented into hoarseness and harshness, and observed in association with different diagnoses and acoustic parameters. CONCLUSION: Auditory training enhances students' initial abilities to perform the evaluation, aside from guiding adjustments in the dynamics of the university subject.

OBJETIVO: Verificar os benefícios de um programa de aperfeiçoamento vocal em grupo a cantores populares. MÉTODOS: Trata-se de estudo de intervenção, quase experimental, realizado com 37 cantores populares de ambos os gêneros, com idades entre 18 e 40 anos e qualidade vocal adaptada. Os participantes foram divididos em dois grupos: Intervenção (GI) e Controle (GC). O GI contou com 21 indivíduos que receberam orientações sobre anátomo-fisiologia do aparelho fonador, cuidados de higiene vocal e realização de exercícios vocais, em um total de sete encontros. O GC contou 16 participantes, que mantiveram suas atividades normais durante o período de realização da pesquisa e não receberam as orientações sobre o aperfeiçoamento vocal. Nos períodos pré e pós-intervenção todos os participantes responderam a um questionário sobre hábitos e demandas relacionadas à voz e foram avaliados em relação a: ressonância, articulação, projeção, pitch, loudness, tempo máximo de fonação e relação s/z. RESULTADOS: O trabalho de aperfeiçoamento vocal mostrou-se positivo na percepção dos cantores, que referiram melhora em suas vozes. Os tempos máximos de fonação e a relação s/z não apresentaram diferença entre os grupos (p=0,57). Não houve modificação dos comportamentos potencialmente nocivos à saúde vocal (p=0,24) em até 60 dias após a intervenção. Não foi observada diminuição considerável das queixas vocais (p=0,1), ainda que a porcentagem de redução de queixas do GI (22,2%) tenha sido maior que a do GC (11,1%). CONCLUSÃO: A intervenção fonoaudiológica em grupo a cantores populares é positiva no que se refere à percepção do indivíduo sobre sua produção vocal, ainda que estes apresentem voz adaptada desde o início do processo.

PURPOSE: To assess the benefits of a group vocal improvement program to popular singers without voice disorders. METHODS: This is a quasi-experimental intervention study, carried out with 37 popular singers of both genders, with ages between 18 and 40 years and adapted vocal quality. Participants were divided into two groups: Intervention (IG) and Control (CG). The IG included 21 subjects who participated in seven weekly lectures regarding anatomy and physiology of the vocal tract, vocal hygiene care, and vocal exercises for voice improvement. The CG included 16 participants, who maintained their normal activities during this period, and did not receive any orientations regarding vocal improvement. In pre- and post-intervention, all participants answered a questionnaire about habits and demands related to the voice, and were evaluated regarding resonance, speech articulation, voice projection, pitch, loudness, maximum phonation time, and s/z ratio. RESULTS: The vocal training was positive in the perception of the singers, who reported improvement in their voices. The assessment of maximum phonation time and s/z ratio did not present differences between groups (p=0.57). No modifications of behaviors potentially harmful to the vocal health were observed within 60 days after the intervention (p=0.24). There was also no considerable decrease of voice complaints (p=0.1), although the decrease percentage of complaints in the IG (22.2%) was higher than that of the CG (11.1%). CONCLUSION: Group vocal training intervention in popular singers is positive regarding the perception of the individual about his/her voice production, even though they presented adapted voice from the beginning of the process.

O Modelo de Oposições Múltiplas é descrito como um modelo alternativo para o tratamento de crianças com desvio fonológico severo. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar o progresso terapêutico de cinco crianças com desvio fonológico, submetidas ao Modelo de Oposições Múltiplas, no que se refere aos inventários fonético (sons) e fonológico (fonemas e traços distintivos alterados). Participaram cinco crianças com desvio fonológico, com média de idade de 6 anos e 1 mês. Os dados da fala foram coletados por meio da avaliação fonológica. Para o tratamento, foi utilizado o Modelo de Oposições Múltiplas durante 25 sessões. Foram analisadas as mudanças nos inventários fonético e fonológico (número de fonemas e traços distintivos alterados) das crianças. Houve um aumento do número de sons no inventário fonético e de fonemas no inventário fonológico, assim como uma diminuição do número de traços distintivos alterados. O Modelo de Oposições Múltiplas possibilita um adequado progresso no tratamento dos sujeitos com desvio fonológico, proporcionando uma expansão nos inventários fonético (aquisição de sons) e fonológico (aquisição de fonemas e diminuição dos traços distintivos alterados).

The Multiple Oppositions Approach is described as an alternative model for the treatment of children with the severe phonological disorders. The aim of this study was to analyze the therapeutic progress of five children with phonological disorder, submitted to the Multiple Oppositions Approach, regarding the phonetic (sounds) and phonological (phonemes and altered distinctive features) inventories. Participants were five children with phonological disorder, with mean age of 6 years and 1 month. Speech data were collected through phonological assessment, and the Multiple Oppositions Approach was used during 25 sessions of intervention. Changes in the phonetic and phonological inventories (number of phonemes and altered distinctive features) of the subjects were analyzed. It was verified an increase in the number of sounds in the phonetic inventory and phonemes in the phonological inventory, as well as a decrease in the number of altered distinctive features. The Multiple Oppositions Approach allows adequate progress in the treatment of subjects with phonological disorders, providing an expansion in the phonetic (acquisition of sounds) and phonological (acquisition of phonemes and decrease in the number of altered distinctive features) inventories.

OBJETIVO: Verificar o desempenho de escolares em consciência fonêmica antes e após a realização de oficinas de linguagem. MÉTODOS: Foi realizada a avaliação da consciência fonêmica em 49 escolares do quarto ano do Ensino Fundamental, utilizando a parte dois do teste "Consciência Fonológica - Instrumento de Avaliação Sequencial" (CONFIAS). Os critérios de exclusão no estudo foram: presença de queixas relacionadas ou de indicadores de alterações da audição e/ou visão; presença de distúrbios neurológicos, comportamentais e/ou cognitivos. Foram incluídas no estudo as crianças que participaram das avaliações inicial e final e de, no mínimo 75% dos encontros das oficinas. Conforme desempenho no teste, os escolares foram divididos em três grupos: inicial, intermediário e avançado. Foram realizadas oficinas semanais para estimulação das habilidades fonológicas e fonêmicas, de acordo com o grupo a que pertenciam. Após as cinco oficinas, os escolares passaram por avaliação final idêntica à inicial. RESULTADOS: O desempenho em consciência fonêmica dos escolares de todos os grupos evoluiu de forma significante após a realização das oficinas. O grupo intermediário foi o que apresentou maior evolução na média de acertos. CONCLUSÃO: O desempenho de escolares em consciência fonêmica evolui consideravelmente após a realização de oficinas de linguagem.

PURPOSE: To verify the phonemic awareness performance of students before and after language workshops. METHODS: Phonemic awareness abilities of 49 students in the fourth year of Elementary School were assessed using the second part of the test "Phonological Awareness - Sequential Assessment Instrument" (CONFIAS). The exclusion criteria in the study were: presence of complaints or indicators of hearing and/or vision deficits; presence of neurological, behavioral and/or cognitive impairments. Subjects included in the study participated in both initial and final assessments and in at least 75% of the workshop meetings. According to their performance on the test, children were divided into three groups: initial, intermediate and advanced. Each group attended separate weekly workshops for stimulation of phonological and phonemic abilities. After five language workshops the students were reassessed. RESULTS: The phonemic awareness performance of students in all groups significantly improved after the workshops. The intermediate group presented the greater improvement in the mean number of correct answers. CONCLUSION: The phonemic awareness performance of students improves after language workshops.

OBJETIVO: Verificar a aplicabilidade de um software na (re)habilitação de crianças com deficiência auditiva. MÉTODOS: A amostra foi composta por 17 crianças com deficiência auditiva, sendo dez usuárias de Implante Coclear (IC) e sete usuárias de Aparelho de Amplificação Sonora Individual (AASI). Foi utilizado o "Software Auxiliar na Reabilitação de Distúrbios Auditivos (SARDA)". Aplicou-se o protocolo de treinamento durante 30 minutos, duas vezes por semana, pelo tempo necessário para a finalização das estratégias que compõe software. Para mensurar a aplicabilidade do software no treinamento da habilidade de percepção da fala no silêncio e no ruído, foram realizadas avaliações com o Hearing in Noise Test (HINT) pré e pós o treinamento auditivo. Os dados foram analisados estatisticamente. RESULTADOS: O grupo de usuários de IC necessitou em média 12,2 dias para finalizar as estratégias e o grupo de usuários de AASI em média 10,14 dias. Os dois grupos apresentaram diferença entre as avaliações pré e pós no silêncio e no ruído. As crianças mais novas apresentaram maior dificuldade durante a execução das estratégias, porém não houve correlação entre a idade e o desempenho. Não houve influência do tipo do dispositivo eletrônico durante o treinamento. As crianças apresentaram maior dificuldade na estratégia que envolvia estímulos não verbais e na estratégia com estímulos verbais que treina a habilidade de atenção sustentada. A atenção e a motivação da criança durante a estimulação foram fundamentais para o bom rendimento do treinamento auditivo. CONCLUSÃO: O treinamento auditivo com o SARDA foi eficaz, pois propiciou melhora na habilidade de percepção da fala, no silêncio e no ruído, das crianças com deficiência auditiva.

PURPOSE: To verify the applicability of a software in the (re)habilitation of hearing impaired children. METHODS: The sample comprised 17 children with hearing impairment, ten with cochlear implants (CI) and seven with hearing aids (HA). The Software Auxiliar na Reabilitação de Distúrbios Auditivos - SARDA (Auxiliary Software for the Rehabilitation of Hearing Disorders) was used. The training protocol was applied for 30 minutes, twice a week, for the necessary time to complete the strategies proposed in the software. To measure the software's applicability for training the speech perception ability in quiet and in noise, subjects were assessed through the Hearing in Noise Test (HINT), before and after the auditory training. Data were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: The group of CI users needed, in average, 12.2 days to finish the strategies, and the group of HA users, in average 10.14 days. Both groups presented differences between pre and post assessments, both in quiet and in noise. Younger children showed more difficulty executing the strategies, however, there was no correlation between age and performance. The type of electronic device did not influence the training. Children presented greater difficulty in the strategy involving non-verbal stimuli and in the strategy with verbal stimuli that trains the sustained attention ability. Children's attention and motivation during stimulation were fundamental for a successful auditory training. CONCLUSION: The auditory training using the SARDA was effective, providing improvement of the speech perception ability, both in quiet and in noise, for the hearing impaired children.

OBJETIVO: Analisar os efeitos de um programa de reabilitação auditiva para a habilidade de ordenação temporal, dos padrões de duração e frequência dos sons, em idosos usuários de próteses auditivas. MÉTODOS: O estudo foi realizado com 17 idosos, com idade entre 60 e 84 anos, distribuídos em Grupo Controle (GC), que somente fez uso das próteses auditivas, e Grupo Estudo (GE), submetido a um programa de reabilitação auditiva, que abrangeu o aconselhamento e treinamento auditivos. Todos os indivíduos foram submetidos a avaliações no momento inicial e final do estudo, por meio dos testes Padrões Sequenciais de Duração e Padrões Sequenciais de Frequência. O período entre as duas avaliações compreendeu sete semanas. RESULTADOS: No teste Padrões Sequenciais de Duração, os sujeitos do GC apresentaram valores médios de acerto nas avaliações inicial e final, na condição murmurado, de 48,64 e 54,43%, e os sujeitos do GE, 60,39 e 76,28%. Na condição nomeado, o GC apresentou 51,93 e 52,43%, e o GE, 63,94 e 77,44%, nas avaliações inicial e final, respectivamente. No teste Padrões Sequenciais de Frequência, os sujeitos do GC apresentaram valores médios de acerto, na condição murmurado, de 80,62 e 79,94%, e os sujeitos do GE, 79,78 e 90,39%. Na condição nomeado, o GC apresentou 82,64 e 84,21%, e o GE, 82,94 e 85,89%, na avaliação inicial e final, respectivamente. Houve diferença apenas para os sujeitos do GE nas condições murmurado e nomeado do teste Padrões Sequenciais de Duração e nomeado do teste Padrões Sequencias de Frequência, indicando valores médios superiores na avaliação final. CONCLUSÃO: O programa de reabilitação auditiva a idosos usuários de próteses auditivas proporciona evolução satisfatória no reconhecimento, ordenação temporal, e nomeação dos padrões de duração e de frequência dos sons.

PURPOSE: To analyze the effects of an auditory rehabilitation program for the temporal ordering ability, of duration and pitch patterns of sounds, in elderly hearing aids users. METHODS: Participants were 17 elderly people, with ages between 60 and 84 years, divided into Control Group (CG), which only used hearing aids, and Study Group (SG), which were submitted to an auditory rehabilitation program that included auditory counseling and training. All subjects were assessed at the beginning and at the end of the study, through the Duration Pattern Sequence and Pitch Pattern Sequence tests. The period between assessments was seven weeks. RESULTS: In the Duration Pattern Sequence test, CG subjects showed mean values of accuracy in the murmured condition of 48.64 and 54.43%, for initial and final assessments, respectively; SG subjects, presented 60.39 and 76.28%. In the named condition, CG presented 51.93 and 52.43%, and SG, 63.94 and 77.44% for initial and final assessments, respectively. In the Pitch Pattern Sequence test, CG subjects showed mean values of accuracy in the murmured condition of 80.62 and 79.94%, and SG subjects, of 79.78 and 90.39%, for initial and final assessments, respectively. In the named the condition, CG presented 82.64 and 84.21%, and SG, 82.94 and 85.89%, for initial and final assessments. There was a difference only for SG subjects in the murmured and named conditions of the Duration Pattern Sequence test, in the named condition of the Pitch Pattern Sequence test, indicating higher mean values in the final assessment. CONCLUSION: The auditory rehabilitation program to elderly hearing aid users provide satisfactory improvement in recognition, temporal ordering, and naming of duration and pitch patterns of sounds.

OBJETIVO: Explorar quais medidas poderiam predizer a persistência de alterações específicas no desenvolvimento da linguagem (AEDL) a partir da associação entre os dados do desempenho na primeira avaliação fonoaudiológica e do prognóstico terapêutico da criança. MÉTODOS: Neste estudo retrospectivo, foram analisados 42 prontuários pertencentes a crianças com diagnóstico de AEDL. As idades variavam entre 21 e 63 meses no momento da primeira avaliação fonoaudiológica, que incluiu as provas de vocabulário, fonologia, pragmática e fluência. O desempenho dos sujeitos em cada prova foi pontuado de 0 a 4, com base na gravidade das alterações, sendo a pontuação máxima a adequada para a idade. Como medida prognóstica, contabilizamos o tempo de terapia (em sessões) dos pacientes que receberam alta, foram encaminhados (o quadro havia se tornado muito leve), ou permaneceram em terapia (dificuldades persistentes de linguagem). RESULTADOS: Houve associação entre os dados da avaliação inicial (classificação normal ou levemente alterada no vocabulário e pragmática) e o prognóstico (<135 sessões terapêuticas). A variável referente ao vocabulário foi a única capaz de predizer o tempo de terapia. A classificação como grave nesta medida aumentou, em média, 112 sessões na estimativa do tratamento. CONCLUSÃO: A primeira avaliação do vocabulário pode contribuir para predizer o prognóstico terapêutico da criança. Este achado é de relevância clínica e científica para a Fonoaudiologia, visto que oferece um recurso auxiliar para a realização do prognóstico e planejamento terapêutico nos quadros de AEDL.

PURPOSE: To explore which measures could predict the persistency of developmental language impairment (DLI) based on the association between the initial language assessment and the therapeutic prognosis of the child. METHODS: In this retrospective study, the records of 42 children with diagnosis of DLI were analyzed. Participants' age varied from 21 to 63 months at the first language assessment, which included vocabulary, phonology, pragmatics and fluency tests. The performance of subjects in each test was scored from 0 to 4, based on the severity of the deficits, and the maximum score corresponded to age-adequate performance. As prognostic measure, we accounted the length of therapy (in sessions) of patients who were discharged, were referred to another service (because the deficits had become very mild), or remained in therapy (persistent language difficulties). RESULTS: There was association between initial assessment (normal or mild alterations for vocabulary and pragmatics abilities) and prognosis (<135 therapeutic sessions). Vocabulary was the only variable able to predict the length of therapy. Being classified as severe in this measure caused the estimate of treatment to increase, in average, 112 sessions. CONCLUSION: The first vocabulary assessment can contribute to predict the child's therapeutic prognosis. This finding is clinically and scientifically relevant to Speech-Language Pathology, since it offers an auxiliary resource to the prognosis and therapeutic planning in cases of DLI.

OBJETIVO: Analisar a efetividade da estimulabilidade como prova complementar ao diagnóstico do transtorno fonológico (TF) e descrever o desempenho de crianças com ausência de sons no inventário fonético quanto a sons ausentes estimuláveis, gravidade, gênero, idade e ocorrência de diferentes processos fonológicos. MÉTODOS: Participaram 130 crianças de ambos os gêneros, entre 5 anos e 10 anos e 10 meses de idade, distribuídas em dois grupos: Grupo Pesquisa (GP), composto por 55 crianças com TF; e Grupo Controle (GC), composto por 75 crianças sem alterações fonoaudiológicas. A partir da aplicação da prova de Fonologia, foi calculada a gravidade do TF por meio do Percentual de Consoantes Corretas-Revisada (PCC-R) e verificado o inventário fonético. Para cada som ausente do inventário foi aplicada a estimulabilidade em imitação de palavras. O GP foi dividido em GP1 (27 crianças que apresentaram sons ausentes) e GP2 (28 crianças com inventário completo). RESULTADOS: Nenhuma criança do GC apresentou som ausente no inventário e no GP1 49% apresentaram sons ausentes. Houve ausência da maioria dos sons da língua. As médias do PCC-R foram menores no GP1, indicando maior gravidade. No GP1, 22 crianças foram estimuláveis e cinco não o foram a qualquer som. Houve associação entre os processos fonológicos mais ocorrentes no TF e a necessidade de avaliação da estimulabilidade, o que indica que a dificuldade em produzir os sons ausentes reflete dificuldade de representação fonológica. A estimulabilidade sofre influência da idade, mas não do gênero. CONCLUSÃO: A prova de estimulabilidade é efetiva para identificar dentre crianças com sons ausentes do inventário, aquelas que são estimuláveis. Tais crianças com TF, que apresentam sons ausentes do inventário, são mais graves uma vez que os valores do PCC-R são mais baixos. As crianças com sons ausentes são estimuláveis em sua maioria, e podem não ser estimuláveis para sons com estrutura silábica ou gesto articulatório complexos. A dificuldade em produzir os sons ausentes reflete dificuldade de representação fonológica. A produção motora da fala demonstrou receber influência da maturação de forma semelhante entre meninos e meninas.

PURPOSE: To analyze the effectiveness of stimulability as a complementary task to the diagnosis of speech sound disorders (SSD), and to describe the performance of children with absent sounds from the phonetic inventory according to stimulable absent sounds, severity, gender, age, and occurrence of different phonological processes. METHODS: Participants were 130 male and female children with ages between 5 years and 10 years and 10 months, divided into two groups: Research Group (RG), comprising 55 children with SSD; and Control Group (CG), composed of 75 children with no speech and language disorders. Based on participants' performance on the Phonology test, the severity of the disorder was calculated through the Percentage of Consonants Correct - Revised (PCC-R), and the phonetic inventory was verified. The stimulability test was applied to each absent sound from the phonetic inventory, based on the imitation of single words. The RG was subdivided into RG1 (27 children who presented absent sounds) and RG2 (28 children with complete inventory). RESULTS: None of the CG children presented absent sounds in the phonetic inventory, while 49% of the RG1 subjects presented absent sounds. There was absence of most language sounds. PCC-R means were lower for RG1, indicating higher severity. In the RG1, 22 children were stimulable, while five were not stimulable to any absent sound. There was association between the most occurring phonological processes and the need for stimulability assessment, indicating that the difficulty to produce absent sounds reflects difficulty with phonological representation. Stimulability is influenced by age, but not by gender. CONCLUSION: The stimulability test is effective to identify stimulable children among those who present absent sounds from their phonetic inventory. Children with SSD and absent sounds have lower PCC-R, and therefore present more severe disorder. Most of the children with absent sounds are stimulable, but may not be stimulable for complex syllable structures or articulatory gestures. The difficulty to produce absent sounds reflects phonological representation deficit. Speech production is influenced by maturation in both boys and girls.

OBJETIVOS: Analisar criticamente a inclusão do portador de necessidades especiais no ensino regular brasileiro, considerando aspectos sociais e jurídicos, por meio de revisão de literatura. ESTRATÉGIA DE PESQUISA: A pesquisa bibliográfica foi conduzida em bases de dados de acesso público: LILACS, SciELO, Portal Cochrane e IUSDATA, sendo esta última da Biblioteca da Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de São Paulo, considerando todos os artigos publicados até o mês de dezembro de 2010. Como estratégia de busca foram utilizados os seguintes termos livres: educação inclusiva, educação especial, proposta inclusiva e portador de necessidades especiais. CRITÉRIOS DE SELEÇÃO: Durante a busca, foram avaliados e selecionados apenas os estudos cujo resumo ou corpo do artigo tivesse relação com o objetivo proposto. ANÁLISE DE DADOS : Os artigos potencialmente relevantes para a revisão foram apresentados em uma ficha protocolar contendo critérios de elegibilidade do estudo, métodos utilizados, características do grupo de artigos analisado, tipo de intervenção realizada e resultados obtidos no estudo. Os artigos classificados como opinião de especialistas, apesar de apresentarem baixo nível de evidência científica, foram incluídos no trabalho, pois são frequentemente encontrados na literatura sobre o assunto. RESULTADOS: Foram encontrados 1.399 artigos, e após leitura dos resumos foram selecionados 120 artigos potencialmente relevantes considerando-se o objetivo da pesquisa. Destes, 67 artigos foram citados em mais de uma base de dados, o que resultou em 53 artigos para serem lidos na íntegra. Após a leitura dos 53 artigos, foram excluídos 15 que não se enquadravam nos critérios de inclusão. Desta forma, 38 estudos foram incluídos e analisados. CONCLUSÃO: Após a análise crítica da literatura da área conclui-se que, até o momento, de maneira geral, a escola recebe, mas há muito a percorrer para incluir os alunos portadores de necessidades especiais, embora o país possua o escopo da inclusão. Assim, faz-se necessário o estabelecimento de diretrizes e ações políticas visando uma inclusão efetiva.

PURPOSE: To critically analyze the inclusion of individuals with special needs in regular education in Brazil, considering social and legal aspects, through literature review. RESEARCH STRATEGY: The literature search was conducted in open access databases: LILACS, SciELO, Portal Cochrane and IUSDATA, the latter belonging to the Library of the Law School of the University of São Paulo, considering all articles published until December 2010. The search strategy used the following keywords: inclusive education; special education; inclusive proposal; individuals with special needs. SELECTION CRITERIA: In the search, only studies in which the summary or the body of the article were related to the purpose of the study were evaluated and selected. DATA ANALYSIS: The potentially relevant articles for review were presented in a protocol form containing the eligibility criteria of the study, methods used, characteristics of the analyzed group or manuscripts, type of intervention used in the study, and results obtained. Articles classified as expert opinions, despite their low level of scientific evidence, were considered in this work, since they are often found in the literature on the issue. RESULTS: A total of 1,399 articles was found and 120 potentially relevant articles were selected after reading their abstracts. From these, 67 articles were cited in more than one database, which resulted in 53 articles to be fully read. Fifteen of these articles were excluded after reading because they did not meet the inclusion criteria. Thus, 38 studies were included and analyzed. CONCLUSION: Following a critical analysis of the literature in the field, it was concluded that, so far, in general, the school receives individuals with special needs; however, there is a long way to go to actually include these individuals, although Brazil has the scope of inclusion. Therefore, it is necessary to establish public policies and guidelines aimed at effective inclusion.

OBJETIVO: Investigar os efeitos imediatos do exercício vocal sopro e som agudo. MÉTODOS: Trata-se de estudo tipo observacional comparativo. Participaram 46 mulheres com idades entre 25 a 45 anos que foram divididas em dois grupos: 23 com queixa vocal (GQ) e 23 sem queixa vocal (GSQ). Foram realizadas a avaliação perceptivo-auditiva da qualidade vocal, análise acústica, videolaringoestroboscopia e autoavaliação da voz antes e após a execução do exercício sopro e som agudo em dez repetições. A avaliação perceptivo-auditiva e das imagens da configuração laríngea foram realizadas por três fonoaudiólogas especialistas em voz, que deveriam analisar dois trechos de cada sujeito, sem a identificação do momento do registro, assinalando o melhor trecho. Os parâmetros acústicos avaliados foram frequência fundamental, jitter e shimmer na vogal sustentada e frequência fundamental na fala encadeada. Na autoavaliação vocal, todos os participantes deveriam responder à pergunta: "Como você avalia a sua voz após a realização do exercício?". RESULTADOS: Na avaliação perceptivo-auditiva, ambos os grupos apresentaram melhor qualidade vocal no pós-exercício. Quanto à avaliação acústica, após o exercício houve diminuição dos valores shimmer, em ambos os grupos e nas medidas de jitter no GSQ. Observou-se aumento da frequência fundamental no GQ na vogal sustentada. A avaliação videolaringoestroboscópica mostrou melhor coaptação glótica e menor envolvimento do vestíbulo em ambos os grupos pós-exercício. A autoavaliação vocal indicou melhora na emissão da voz no GQ. CONCLUSÃO: O exercício vocal sopro e som agudo produz efeitos imediatos positivos nas avaliações perceptivo-auditiva, acústica, laríngea e na autoavaliação vocal.

PURPOSE: To investigate the immediate effects of the high-pitched blowing vocal exercise. METHODS: This is a comparative observational study. Participants were 46 women with ages between 25 and 45 years, who were divided into two groups: 23 individuals with vocal complaint (VCG), and 23 without vocal complaint (WVCG). The procedures included vocal auditory-perceptual analysis, acoustic analysis, videostroboscopy, and vocal self-assessment before and after ten repetitions of the high-pitched blowing vocal exercise. The auditory-perceptual analysis and the assessment of the laryngeal configuration images were carried out by three speech-language pathologists, who performed the blind analysis of two vocal samples of each subject, marking the best sample. The acoustic parameters measured were fundamental frequency, jitter and shimmer in sustained vowel, and fundamental frequency in speech. For the vocal self-assessment, participants were asked the question: "How do you think your voice is after the exercise?". RESULTS: Both groups presented better voice quality in the auditory-perceptual analysis after the exercise. In the acoustic analysis, shimmer values reduced for both groups, and jitter values reduced only for the WVCG post-exercise. It was observed increase of the fundamental frequency in the VCG in the sustained vowel. The videostroboscopy showed better glottal closure and less vestibule involvement for both groups after the exercise. Vocal self-assessment indicated better voice emission post-exercise in the VCG. CONCLUSION: The high-pitched blowing vocal exercise produces positive immediate effects observed in auditory-perceptual, acoustic, and laryngeal analyses and in vocal self-assessment.

Este trabalho teve por objetivo caracterizar as habilidades de consciência fonológica em uma criança portadora da Síndrome da Imunodeficiência Adquirida (SIDA) pré e pós-terapia fonoaudiológica. A participante foi uma criança do gênero feminino, de 6 anos de idade, aluna do primeiro ano do ensino fundamental, portadora de SIDA adquirida por transmissão vertical. Foi realizada uma avaliação das habilidades de consciência fonológica por meio da aplicação do teste Consciência Fonológica - Instrumento e Avaliação Sequencial (CONFIAS). Após, foi desenvolvido um programa terapêutico fechado (15 sessões) para consciência fonológica, composto por atividades em níveis silábico e fonêmico. Na última sessão, o teste CONFIAS foi reaplicado para investigação da efetividade da terapia. Na avaliação pré-terapia, a criança apresentou escore de 18 pontos nas tarefas em nível silábico e um ponto em tarefas em nível fonêmico, totalizando um escore de 19 pontos. Na avaliação pós-terapia, o escore obtido em tarefas silábicas foi de 26 pontos e em tarefas fonêmicas 11 pontos, totalizando um escore de 37 pontos. Este estudo permitiu-nos caracterizar o desempenho de uma criança com SIDA em tarefas de habilidades de consciência fonológica e a efetividade de um programa terapêutico. A pontuação obtida na avaliação pré-terapia mostrou-se bastante inferior ao esperado para a idade e apresentou evolução significativa após a realização de terapia fonoaudiológica. Assim, os profissionais envolvidos com esta população devem estar atentos aos programas terapêuticos que abordem, além de outros aspectos, as habilidades de processamento fonológico.

The aim of the present study was to characterize the phonological awareness abilities of a child with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) before and after speech-language therapy. The participant was a 6-year-old girl, first-grade Elementary School student, with AIDS acquired by vertical transmission. The child's phonological awareness abilities were evaluated using the Instrument of Sequential Evaluation of Phonological Awareness (CONFIAS). After this first evaluation, a closed therapeutic program (15 sessions) for phonological awareness was developed, consisting of activities for syllabic and phonemic levels. The CONFIAS was reapplied in the last session in order to investigate therapy effectiveness. In the pre-therapy assessment, the child scored 18 points in syllable tasks and 1 point in phoneme tasks, with a total score of 19 points. In the post-therapy assessment, the child scored 26 points in syllable tasks and 11 points in phoneme tasks, with a total score of 37 points. This study allowed us to characterize the performance of a child with AIDS in tasks of phonological awareness and the effectiveness of the therapeutic program. The score obtained before therapy was much lower than expected for the child's age, and presented significant improvement after speech-language therapy. Thus, professionals working with this population must be aware of therapeutic programs that approach phonological processing abilities in addition to other aspects.

OBJETIVO: Comparar as respostas dos instrumentos Childhood Autism Rating Scale e Autism Behavior Checklist na identificação e caracterização de indivíduos com Distúrbios do Espectro Autístico. MÉTODOS: Participaram 28 indivíduos que estavam em atendimento fonoaudiológico e possuíam diagnósticos inseridos no Espectro do Autismo. Todos foram avaliados por meio dos instrumentos Autism Behavior Checklist e Childhood Autism Rating Scale a partir de informações obtidas, respectivamente, com pais e terapeutas. Os dados foram analisados estatisticamente em relação à concordância das respostas obtidas. Foram considerados concordantes os resultados de alta ou moderada probabilidade para autismo no Autism Behavior Checklist e com autismo leve-moderado ou grave na Childhood Autism Rating Scale, e respostas de baixa probabilidade no Autism Behavior Checklist e sem autismo na Childhood Autism Rating Scale. RESULTADOS: Houve concordância na maior parte das respostas obtidas. Casos em que houve discordância entre os resultados obtidos a partir dos protocolos corroboram dados da literatura, evidenciando que os instrumentos podem não ser suficientes, quando aplicados isoladamente para a definição do diagnóstico. CONCLUSÃO: Enquanto a Childhood Autism Rating Scale pode não diagnosticar crianças efetivamente autistas, o Autism Behavior Checklist pode incluir como autistas, crianças com outros distúrbios. Portanto, recomenda-se o uso complementar dos dois instrumentos.

PURPOSE: To compare the results obtained in the Autism Behavior Checklist with those obtained in the Childhood Autism Rating Scale to identify and characterize children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. METHODS: Participants were 28 children with psychiatric diagnosis within the autism spectrum that were enrolled in language therapy in a specialized service. These children were assessed according to the Autism Behavior Checklist and Childhood Autism Rating Scale criteria, based on information obtained with parents and therapists, respectively. Data were statistically analyzed regarding the agreement between responses. Results indicating high or moderate probability of autism in the Autism Behavior Checklist were considered concordant with the results indicating mild-to-moderate or severe autism in the Childhood Autism Rating Scale. Results indicating low probability of autism in the Autism Behavior Checklist and without autism in the Childhood Autism Rating Scale were also considered concordant. RESULTS: There was agreement on most of the responses. Cases in which there was disagreement between results obtained on both protocols corroborate literature data, showing that the instruments may not be sufficient, if applied alone, to define the diagnosis. CONCLUSION: The Childhood Autism Rating Scale may not effectively diagnose autistic children, while the Autism Behavior Checklist may result in over- diagnose, including within the autism spectrum children with other disorders. Therefore, the associated use of both protocols is recommended.
