RESUMO Mudas de erva-mate com qualidade genética e fisiológica, altos índices de sobrevivência no plantio e resistência a estresses ambientais são necessários para a implantação e estabelecimento de ervais produtivos que irão fornecer matéria-prima de qualidade. No entanto, a produção de mudas, na maioria dos casos, é realizada a partir de sementes, as quais são coletadas de plantas matrizes com poucos critérios de seleção. Nesse sentido, o trabalho teve como objetivo investigar a qualidade das sementes de erva-mate após pré-limpeza por flutuação de diferentes plantas matrizes, por meio da obtenção de informações sobre a caracterização biométrica (medida longitudinal e transversal), teor de água, peso de mil sementes, avaliação da integridade das sementes e viabilidade por meio do teste de tetrazólio. As sementes foram coletadas de 10 plantas matrizes localizadas em três municípios da região ervateira Alto Vale do Taquari - RS, Brasil. Na avaliação da integridade foram contabilizadas a quantidade de sementes não íntegras (vazias e deterioradas) e íntegras (com e sem embrião visível). E no teste de tetrazólio foi avaliada a porcentagem de sementes viáveis e não viáveis. As sementes das diferentes plantas matrizes apresentaram diferenças estatísticas para todas as variáveis analisadas. As análises mostraram que há diferenças relacionadas à biometria e teor de água e, consequentemente, no peso de mil sementes. A erva-mate apresenta percentual variado de sementes vazias e deterioradas. A porcentagem de sementes não viáveis é alta, o que reduz significativamente a viabilidade de um lote de sementes.

ABSTRACT Yerba mate seedlings with genetic and physiological quality, high rates of sowing survival and resistance to environmental stresses are necessary for the implantation and establishment of productive plants that will provide quality raw material. However, the production of seedlings, in most cases is carried out from seeds, which are collected from mother-plants with few selection criteria. In this sense, the work aimed to investigate the quality of the seeds of yerba mate after processing by flotation from different mother-plants, by obtaining information about the biometric characterization (longitudinal and transversal measure), water content, a thousand-seed weight, evaluation of the seed integrity and viability through the tetrazolium test. The seeds were collected from 10 mother-plants located in three cities in the yerba-mate region Alto Vale do Taquari - RS state, Brazil. In the integrity assessment, the number of not full (empty and deteriorated) and full (with and without visible embryo) seeds was counted. In the tetrazolium test, the percentage of viable and non-viable seeds was evaluated. The seeds of the different parent plants showed statistical differences for all the variables analyzed. The analysis showed that there are differences related to biometric parameters and water content and, consequently, in the weight of a thousand seeds. Yerba mate shows a varied percentage of empty and deteriorated seeds. The percentage of non-viable seeds is high, which significantly reduces the viability of the seed lot.

Abstract This study evaluated the effect of disinfestation methods and different storage environments on the germination of seeds of Limonium brasiliense (Boiss.) Kuntze. Seeds were disinfested using ethanol followed by sodium hypochlorite; water under agitation; and no disinfestation from two origins. Longevity was tested by storing the seeds in a cold chamber, dry chamber, and at ambient laboratory temperature. Beginning of germination (BG), percentage (%G), and mean germination time (MGT) and mean germination speed index (MGSI) were evaluated. Data were submitted to an analysis of variance, comparison of mean values and a polynomial regression analysis (p<0.05). In the disinfestation, there was significant difference in %G and MGT only between origins. For longevity, IG and MGSI had a positive and negative linear behavior, respectively, while %G had a quadratic behavior. L. brasiliense seeds disinfestation does not affect germination. Dry chamber was the most suitable storage environment.

Resumo Campomanesia aurea é uma espécie sub-arbustiva nativa do Bioma Pampa, conhecida popularmente com guabirobinha-do-campo. Apresenta potencial ornamental para uso em vasos ou jardins devido ao seu pequeno tamanho, forma irregular, floração intensa e aromática. Um dos principais fatores para a produção é o uso adequado de fertilizantes e adubações equilibradas. O objetivo foi avaliar o crescimento de mudas e o conteúdo de nutrientes nas folhas de C. aurea submentidas a doses de fertilizante de liberação controlada (FLC). Mudas de C. aurea foram transplantadas para embalagens contendo casca de pinus compostada e as dose de FLC de: 0; 2,5; 5,0; 7,5 e 10,0 g L−1. Avaliou-se a altura, índice de clorofila, número de ramificações, diâmetro de colo, área foliar, Índice de Qualidade de Dickson, massa seca da parte aérea, massa seca de raiz e acúmulo de nutrientes nas folhas. Para altura, diâmetro de coleto, número de hastes, o ponto de máxima resposta foi com a concentração de 6,8; 6,6; e 6,9 g L−1 de FLC, respectivamente. Para a massa seca da parte aérea, área foliar e índice de clorofila verificaram-se aumentos até a concentração 8,1; 7,8 e 8,0 g L−1, respectivamente. Houve comportamento quadrático positivo para a maioria dos nutrientes, com exceção de Cu e Mn, que foi linear crescente com o aumento da dose de fertilizante. A aplicação de FLC em mudas de C. aurea entre 7 e 8 g de substrato L−1 promoveu um aumento nas principais características de crescimento de importância ornamental e proporciona resultados superiores no acúmulo de nutrientes nas folhas.

Abstract Campomanesia aurea is a sub-shrub species native to the Pampa Biome, popularly known as “guabirobinha-do-campo”. It has an ornamental potential for use in pots or gardens due to its small size, irregular shape, intense flowering and aroma. One of the main factors for production is an adequate use of fertilizers and balanced fertilizations. The objective was to evaluate the growth of seedlings and nutrient leaf accumulation of C. aurea submitted to doses of controlled release fertilizer (CRF). C. aurea seedlings were transplanted to containers containing composted pinus bark and CRF doses of 0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 g L−1. Height, chlorophyll index, number of stems, base diameter, leaf area, Dickson Quality Index, shoot dry matter, root dry matter and nutrient leaf accumulation were evaluated. For height, base diameter and number of stems, the point of maximum response was at the concentration 6.8, 6.6 and 6.9 g L−1 CRF, respectively. For shoot dry matter, leaf area and chlorophyll, we verified increase up to the concentration 8.1, 7.8 and 8.0 g L−1, respectively. There was a positive quadratic behavior for most nutrients, with the exception of Cu and Mn, which linearly increased with the increase of fertilizer dose. The application of CRF on C. aurea seedlings between 7 and 8 g L−1 substrate promoted an increase on the main growth characteristics of ornamental importance and provides superior results on nutrient leaf content.

Abstract Angelonia integerrima Sprengel is a native species of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul and the Southern region (Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul) of Brazil, with features such as an unusual appearance and color of the flowers, indicating an ornamental use. To optimize the use of this species and to fill in gaps regarding its cytogenetic characterization, this study determined the chromosome number, meiotic index and pollen viability of plant individuals of four A. integerrima populations. All plant individuals of the four populations had 2n = 20 chromosomes. Still, the meiotic index of most analyzed plant individuals exceeded 90%, while pollen viability of all plant individuals was higher than 80%. These data suggest considerable cytological stability of the analyzed A. integerrima plant individuals, which may favor the selection of future genotypes for commercial purposes or their use in conservation and breeding programs of the species.

Resumo Devido à dificuldade de obtenção de mudas de Agelonia integerrima, espécie com potencial ornamental, a partir de sementes, por métodos convencionais, foram desenvolvidos estudos com o objetivo de testar a viabilidade da produção de mudas in vitro. Foram conduzidos quatro experimentos: a) germinação de sementes armazenadas em dois locais (ambiente refrigerado e bancada de laboratório) e concentrações de sais (100, 75 e 50%) do meio MS; b) multiplicação com benzilaminopurina (BAP) (0,0, 0,5 e 1,0 mg L-1) e ácido naftalenoacético (ANA) (0,0, 0,1 e 0,5 mg L-1); c) enraizamento in vitro com ácido indolbutírico (AIB) (0; 0,25; 0,50; 0,75 e 1,0 mg L-1); d) aclimatização das mudas. Sementes armazenadas sob ambiente refrigerado apresentaram maior porcentagem de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação e de plântulas formadas. A germinação não foi afetada pela concentração de sais do meio. Para a multiplicação, houve interação entre as concentrações de BAP e ANA, recomendando-se utilizar 1,0 mg L-1 de BAP e 0,1 mg L-1 de ANA. No enraizamento, foi ajustada uma equação quadrática para as variáveis: porcentagem de formação de calo e enraizamento, sendo que a concentração de 0,83 mg L-1 é o ponto de máxima resposta para a porcentagem de enraizamento. A espécie apresentou 50,8% de aclimatização.

Abstract Due to the difficulty of obtaining seedlings of Agelonia integerrima, species with ornamental potential, from seeds, by conventional methods, studies were carried out to test the viability of in vitro seedling production. In order to propagate Angelonia integerrima, studies have been developed to generate information for the in vitro production of seedlings. Four experiments were conducted: a) germination of seeds stored at two locations (refrigerated environment and laboratory bench) and different salt concentrations (100, 75 and 50%) in a MS medium; b) multiplication using benzylaminopurine (BAP) (0.0, 0.5 and 1.0 mg L-1) and naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) (0.0, 0.1 and 0.5 mg L-1); c) in vitro rooting using indolebutyric acid (IBA) (0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.0 mg L-1) and d) acclimatization of seedlings. Seeds stored at refrigerated environment showed higher germination percentages, germination speed indexes (GSI) and plantlets formed. Germination was not affected by the concentration of salts in the medium and can be used at low concentrations. For multiplication, there was an interaction between BAP and NAA. 1.0 mg L-1 of BAP and 0.1 mg L-1 of NAA are recommended. For rooting, a quadratic equation was adjusted for the variables percentage of callus formation and rooting. The concentration 0.83 mg L-1 results in the maximum response point for rooting. The species presented 50.8% of acclimatization.

RESUMO Angelonia integerrima é uma espécie nativa que possui potencial ornamental podendo ser cultivada em canteiros, floreiras, vasos, ou ainda ser utilizada como complemento em arranjos florais. Para o cultivo da espécie são requeridos conhecimentos sobre nutrição mineral e os adubos de liberação lenta têm-se difundido nos últimos anos, já que apresentam menor risco de causar toxicidade às culturas, economia com relação a adubações complementares e podem ser uma alternativa para o cultivo de plantas em vaso. Diante disso, o objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o desenvolvimento de Angelonia integerrima Sprengel em vasos, sob doses de adubo de liberação lenta. Mudas oriundas de sementes germinadas in vitro, com aproximadamente 1 cm de altura foram aclimatizadas e, posteriormente transplantadas para vasos de 1L contendo substrato de casca de Pinus compostada. Foram utilizadas cinco doses do fertilizante de liberação lenta Basacote® 9M, formulação 16-8-12 (N - P2O5 - K2O: controle – 0 g L–1, 2,5 g L–1, 5,0 g L–1, 7,5 g L–1 e 10,0 g L–1. As plantas foram cultivadas em casa de vegetação sob irrigação por gotejamento e, após 286 dias de cultivo, foram avaliados comprimento da parte aérea, comprimento da maior inflorescência, número de hastes, diâmetro da maior haste, comprimento médio das hastes, número de flores abertas, botões, frutos e flores senescentes, clorofila a, b e total, massa da matéria seca da parte aérea e do sistema radicular. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições de seis vasos por parcela. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância (ANOVA) seguido de regressão polinomial pelo SigmaPlot 11.0. Foi possível ajustar uma equação quadrática para as variáveis: comprimento da parte aérea (com ponto de máxima resposta em 7,2 g L–1), comprimento médio das hastes (6,7 g L–1), diâmetro da maior haste (6,4 g L–1), massa da matéria seca da parte aérea (7,8 g L–1) e do sistema radicular (5,9 g L–1), número de flores abertas, botões, flores senescentes e total de flores (7,7 g L–1). Já para as variáveis, número de hastes, número de frutos, clorofila a, b e total não diferiram entre os tratamentos. A dose indicada para o cultivo da espécie em vaso é de 7,2 g L–1 do adubo de liberação lenta.

ABSTRACT Angelonia integerrima is a native species that has ornamental potential, being cultivated in flowerbeds, flowerpots, pots, or even used as a complement in floral arrangements. Knowledge of mineral nutrition is required for the cultivation of the species, and slow release fertilization have become widespread in recent years, with a lower risk of toxicity to crops, an economy in relation to complementary fertilizers and may be an alternative to cultivation of potted plants. The aim of this study was to evaluate the development of Angelonia integerrima Sprengel in pot under slow release fertilization doses. Acclimatized seedlings with approximately 1 cm height, from in vitro germinated seeds were transplanted into 1 L pots containing substrate composted Pinus bark. Five doses of Basacote ® 9M slow release fertilizer, formulation 16-8-12 (N - P2O5 - K2O), 9 months: control – 0 g L–1, 2.5 g L–1, 5.0 g L–1, 7.5 g L–1 and 10.0 g L–1. The plants were grown in a greenhouse under drip irrigation. The shoot length, length of the largest inflorescence, number of stems, diameter of the largest stem, mean length of the stems, number of open flowers, fruits and senescent flowers, chlorophyll a, b and total, mass of dry matter of shoot and root system were evaluated after 286 days. The experimental design was completely randomized, with four replicates of six pots per plot. Data were submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by polynomial regression by SigmaPlot 11.0. It was possible to adjust a quadratic equation for the variables: shoot length (with maximum response point in 7.2 g L–1), mean length of stems (6.7 g L–1), diameter of the largest stem and the root system (5.9 g L–1), number of open flowers, buds, senescent flowers and total flowers (7.7 g L–1). For the variables, number of stems, number of fruits, chlorophyll a, b and total did not differ between treatments. The slow releaser fertilizer indicated dose for the cultivation of the potted species is 7.2 g L–1.

RESUMO O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da concentração de ácido indol-3-butírico (AIB) e substratos no enraizamento de estacas apicais de Angelonia integerrima. Utilizou-se AIB em pó, nas concentrações de 0, 500, 1000, 2000 e 4000 mg kg−1 e dois substratos: casca de arroz carbonizada (CAC) e substrato comercial a base de turfa de Sphagnum. Avaliou-se: número de estacas enraizadas, comprimento da parte aérea e do sistema radicular, número de folhas novas, volume do sistema radicular, formação de calo na base da estaca, massa seca da parte aérea e do sistema radicular. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial (5 concentrações de AIB x 2 substratos). Não houve interação entre as concentrações de AIB e substratos, somente houve diferença para o fator substrato. As estacas apresentaram enraizamento médio de 79%, com formação de calo em 59,4%. O substrato CAC promoveu maior comprimento da parte aérea e maior número de folhas novas. O substrato comercial proporcionou maior volume médio de raiz, maior comprimento de raiz e maior incremento de massa seca radicular. No enraizamento por estaquia de A. integerrima não é necessário usar AIB e pode-se utilizar o substrato comercial à base de turfa ou a CAC.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the concentration of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) and substrates in the rooting of apical cuttings of Angelonia integerrima. Powder IBA was used at the concentrations 0, 500, 1,000, 2,000 and 4,000 mg kg−1, and two substrates containing carbonized rice husks (CRH) and commercial substrate based on Sphagnum peat were used. The number of rooted cuttings, shoot length, root system length, number of new leaves, root system volume, callus formation at the cutting base, and shoot and root dry matter were evaluated. The experimental design was completely randomized with a factorial design (5 IBA concentrations x 2 substrates). There were no interactions between the concentrations of IBA and the substrates. There was a difference only for the factor substrate. The cuttings presented an average rooting of 79%, with callus formation in 59.4% of them. The CRH substrate presented the highest shoot length and the highest number of new leaves. The commercial substrate resulted in a high average root volume, a large root length and a great increase in root dry matter. In the rooting by cutting of A. integerrima is not necessary to use IBA and the commercial substratum based on peat or CRH can be used.

RESUMO Codonanthe devosiana é uma espécie endêmica do Brasil pertencente à família Gesneriaceae. Apresenta potencial ornamental para uso em vasos suspensos e ambientes sombreados. O objetivo foi avaliar o efeito da combinação de diferentes concentrações de BAP e GA3 na multiplicação e desenvolvimento de explantes in vitro de C. devosiana. Utilizou-se meio MS suplementado com as concentrações de 0,0; 0,2 e 0,4 mg L−1 de BAP e 0,0; 0,25 e 0,50 mg L−1 de GA3. Foram avaliados o número, massa seca e altura de brotações, massa seca de calos e presença de raízes nos aglomerados com múltiplas brotações. Foi verificada interação entre as concentrações de BAP e GA3 para número de brotações, massa seca de brotações e massa seca de calo. Para altura de brotações e formação de raízes houve efeito apenas das concentrações de BAP. O maior número de brotações (4,8) ocorreu quando combinada a concentração de 0,2 mg L−1 de BAP e 0,5 mg L−1 de GA3. A menor altura de brotações foi constatada sem o uso de BAP, assim como o maior enraizamento. Conclui-se que a combinação de 0,2 mg L−1 de BAP e 0,5 mg L−1 de GA3 permite a multiplicação mais eficiente de explantes de C. devosiana.

ABSTRACT Codonanthe devosiana is a species endemic to Brazil belonging to the family Gesneriaceae. It features ornamental potential for use in hanging pots and shaded environments. The aim is to evaluate the effects of the combination of different concentrations of BAP and GA3 on the multiplication and development of in vitro explants of C. devosiana. We used MS media supplemented with concentrations of 0.0, 0.2 and 0.4 mg L−1 of BAP and 0.0, 0.25 and 0.50 mg L−1 of GA3. The number, bud dry matter and height, callus dry matter and presence of roots were evaluated in agglomerates with multiple buds. The interaction between BAP and GA3 concentrations was verified for number of shoots, shoot dry matter and callus dry matter. For shoot height and root formation, only BAP concentrations were observed. The highest number of shoots (4.8) occurred when combined with the concentration of BAP 0.2 mg L−1 and 0.5 mg L−1 GA3. The lowest shoot height was observed without the use of BAP, as well as the greatest rooting. It is concluded that the combination of 0.2 mg L−1 of BAP with 0.5 mg L−1 of GA3 allows for a more efficient multiplication of C. devosiana explants.
