Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the combining ability of S3 forage maize (Zea mays) progenies for traits related to forage yield and bromatological quality, with and without the ear, as well as to evaluate the ability of testers to discriminate progenies for these traits. The trials were carried out in the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 crop seasons, in the municipality of Guarapuava, in the state of Paraná, Brazil. Topcross hybrids obtained from the crosses of 28 S3 maize progenies with three testers were evaluated. The following forage qualitative traits of the whole plant and of the plant without the ear were evaluated: neutral and acid detergent fibers, lignin, and in situ dry mass digestibility, as well as digestible dry mass yield of the whole plant. The progenies that stood out for forage qualitative traits were 85.1 and 42.1 for the whole plant and for the plant without the ear, respectively. For the qualitative and productive traits of whole-plant forage, progenies 91.1, 106.2, 126.2, 138.1, 152.1, 235.1, and 251.1 are promising to continue in the breeding program aiming to generate hybrids with a high yield and fiber quality. Testers LEM3 and AG8025 are efficient in discriminating progenies for forage yield and bromatological traits.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a capacidade de combinação de progênies S3 de milho (Zea mays) forrageiro em relação a características relacionadas com o rendimento e a qualidade bromatológica da forragem, com e sem a espiga, bem como avaliar a capacidade de testadores para a discriminação das progênies para estas características. Os ensaios foram realizados nas safras de 2017/2018 e 2018/2019, no município de Guarapuava, no estado do Paraná, Brasil. Foram avaliados os híbridos topcross obtidos dos cruzamentos de 28 progênies de milho S3 com três testadores. As seguintes características qualitativas da forragem da planta inteira e da planta sem a espiga foram avaliadas: fibras em detergente neutro e ácido, lignina e digestibilidade in situ da massa seca, além do rendimento da massa seca digerível de toda a planta. As progênies que se destacaram quanto às características qualitativas da forragem foram 85.1 e 42.1 para a planta inteira e para a planta sem a espiga, respectivamente. Para as características qualitativas e produtivas da forragem da planta inteira, as progênies 91.1, 106.2, 126.2, 138.1, 152.1, 235.1 e 251.1 são promissoras para continuar no programa de melhoramento com vistas à geração de híbridos com altos rendimento e qualidade de fibra. Os testadores LEM3 e AG8025 são eficientes na discriminação de progênies para as características produtivas e bromatológicas das forragens.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the damages caused by Diceraeus (=Dichelops) melacanthus in maize plants subjected to bioinoculation with or without imidacloprid seed treatment. In this study, five different combinations of bioinoculants and imidacloprid seed treatment were applied to maize seeds in a completely randomized design. The bioinoculants used were Azospirillum brasilense and Bradyrhizobium japonicum. From emergence, the plants were subjected to infestation with the stink bug D. melacanthus (one stink bug/plant), with permanence up to 21 days after emergence. After this period, the phytotechnical parameters (shoot and root) of the corn plants were evaluated. In general, plant height was higher when imidacloprid was applied, suggesting compatibility with bioinoculants. The chlorophyll a content was higher when bioinoculants were applied, regardless of whether imidacloprid was present. Finally, the results indicate that the bacteria A. brasilense and B. japonicum do not induce resistance to the level of D. melacanthus infestation used in the present study. Therefore, these bacteria can be used in combination with imidacloprid, allowing for greater plant height, higher chlorophyll a content, and reduced damage caused by D. melacanthus.

RESUMO: O manejo do mofo branco (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) tem sido um dos principais limitantes de produção enfrentados por produtores de soja. Tendo em vista a complexidade do manejo desta doença e da estrutura de resistência do patógeno, o presente trabalho foi conduzido nos municípios de Guarapuava e Palmas - Paraná visando o manejo do mofo branco na cultura da soja utilizando palhadas de cereais de inverno, aveia, centeio e triticale. Inicialmente, cultivou-se os diferentes cereais de inverno, simultaneamente, nas duas áreas de estudo (Guarapuava e Palmas - PR). Avaliou-se a produção de palhada, a altura de plantas, a massa verde e seca da parte aérea. Posteriormente, semeou-se soja ‘BMX Apolo’ sobre as palhadas de cereais e avaliou-se a incidência e a severidade do mofo branco. No experimento in vitro, adicionou-se 20 escleródios cobertos por uma camada de palhas (aveia, centeio e triticale) e após 98 dias, observou-se germinação carpogênica somente no tratamento testemunha. Independentemente do local de estudo, o centeio destacou-se com maiores altura e massa verde. O cultivo sobre palhada de cereais de inverno reduziu a incidência e severidade de mofo branco com destaque para a palhada de centeio, reduzindo a incidência da doença em 77,7% e 76,6%, em Palmas e Guarapuava, respectivamente.

ABSTRACT: The management of white mold (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum(Lib.) De Bary) has been one of the main production limitations faced by soybean (Glycine max L.) producers. Considering the complex management of this disease and resistance structure of the pathogen, the present study was conducted in the municipalities of Guarapuava and Palmas in Paraná with the objective of managing the white mold of soybean using straws of winter cereals, such as oat, rye, and triticale. Initially, the three winter cereals were cultivated simultaneously in both the study areas. Straw production, plant height, and shoot fresh and dry weight were evaluated. Subsequently, BMX Apollo soybean was cultivated on cereal straws, and the incidence and severity of white mold were evaluated. In the in vitro experiment, 20 sclerotia covered by a layer of cereal (oat, rye, and triticale) straws were added and carpogenic germination was observed only in the control treatment after 98 days. Regardless of the study site, rye presented greater height and fresh weight than the remaining two cereals. Soybean cultivation on winter cereal straw reduced the incidence and severity of white mold. Cultivation on rye straw reduced mold incidence by 77.7% and 76.6% in Palmas and Guarapuava, respectively.

ABSTRACT. Maize forage is commonly used as silage in milk and beef cattle livestock production systems. Despite the wide variety of maize hybrids with high potential for grain production, few available hybrids have been developed exclusively for forage aptitude. The present study aimed to select S3 maize progenies derived from the single hybrid AS1572 based on the combining ability of forage traits in topcrosses with testers AG8025, 70.H26.1, and MLP102. The 135 resulting topcross hybrids were assessed in partial diallel in Guarapuava and Rio Bonito do Iguaçu, Paraná State, Brazil. Were evaluated the contents of neutral detergent fiber (NDF, %DM) and acid detergent fiber (ADF, %DM), forage dry matter yield (DMY, t ha-1), and in situ digestibility of forage dry matter (DIG, %DM). For all evaluated traits, the variability allowed us to select superior progenies. Progenies 3.1, 22.1, and 39.1stood out in terms of NDF, ADF, and DIG, whereas progenies 47.1, 73.1, 79.1, and 90.2 were efficient in increasing the forage dry matter yield. The testers AG8025 and 70.H26.1, of narrow genetic base, are the best to explore genetic variability among progenies.

ABSTRACT. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nitrogen fertilization with and without humic acid in barley cultivars on the export of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium grains. The experiment was performed in the city of Guarapuava, PR, during the 2015 and 2016 growing seasons. The experimental design was in RCB in factorial 5 x 2, with the following sowing fertilization (kg ha-1): 0, 100 NPK, 100 NPK+HS, 250 NPK, 250 NPK+HS and two cultivars, BRS Brau and BRS Elis. The dose of 250 kg NPK with humic substance increased the nitrogen export to barley grains, with the highest levels occurring in the BRS Brau cultivar under favorable climatic conditions. Under favorable climatic conditions, the export of phosphorus to barley grains in the agricultural crop was not influenced by the humic substance, with the highest levels occurring in the BRS Brau cultivar. The dose of 100 kg NPK with humic substance increased the export of potassium to barley grains, with the highest levels occurring in the BRS Brau cultivar regardless of climatic condition. There were correlations between nitrogen and phosphorus levels in grains and between phosphorus content and grain yield.

RESUMO. Esse estudo objetivou avaliar a composição bromatológica da forragem e da silagem pré-secada de doze cereais de inverno colhidos em estádio de pré-florescimento. Utilizou-se aveia preta (Avena strigosa) cv. EMB 139 e cv. IAPAR 61, aveia branca (Avena sativa) cv. IPR 126 e cv. URS Taura, cevada (Hordeum vulgare) cv. BRS Brau e cv. BRS Cauê, trigo (Triticum aestivum) cv. BRS Umbu e cv. BRS Tarumã, centeio (Secale cereale) cv. Temprano e cv. BRS Serrano e triticale (X Triticosecale) cv. IPR 111 e cv. BRS Saturno. A colheita ocorreu quando as plantas atingiram estádio de pré-florescimento, onde foram pré-murchadas e ensiladas. O triticale cv. IPR 111 apresentou características químicas notórias em relação aos demais tratamentos, tendo o maior teor de proteína bruta (113,7 g kg-1) e os menores teores de FDN e FDA (657,9 e 380,9 g kg-1, respectivamente). Dentre as silagens pré-secadas a cevada cv. BRS Cauê apresentou a maior concentração de NDT (614,7 g kg-1). O triticale cv. IPR 111 se mostrou como um alimento de alta qualidade nutricional enquanto forragem, e manteve essas características após conservação. Já a silagem pré-secada da cevada cv. BRS Cauê apresentou o maior potencial de degradabilidade de nutrientes.

ABSTRACT. This study aimed to assess the chemical composition of the forage and pre-dried silage from twelve winter cereals harvested at pre-flowering. We used black oat (Avena strigosa) cv. EMB 139 and cv. IAPAR 61; white oat (Avena sativa) cv. IPR and 126 hp. URS Taura; barley (Hordeum vulgare) cv. BRS Brau and cv. BRS Cauê; wheat (Triticum aestivum) cv. BRS Umbu and cv. BRS Tarumã; rye (Secale cereale) cv. Temprano and cv. BRS Serrano; and triticale (X. Triticosecale) cv. IPR and 111 hp. BRS Saturno. Plants were harvested at pre-flowering, when they were pre-dried and ensiled. The analysis of variance evidenced nutritional differences between species and cultivars. Triticale cv. IPR 111 showed notorious chemical characteristics in relation to the other treatments, highest protein content (113.7 g kg-1) and lower content of NDF and ADF (657.9 and 380.9 g kg-1, respectively). Among the pre-dried silages, barley cv. BRS Cauê had the highest level of NDT (614.7 g kg-1). Triticale cv. IPR 111 was shown as a high-quality nutritional food as forage and kept these characteristics after conservation. On the other hand, the pre-dried silage of barley cv. BRS Cauê showed the highest potential for nutrient degradability.

RESUMO. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da aplicação de fungicida sobre a podridão de grãos em híbridos comerciais de milho e a relação entre os grãos ardidos e a expressão da enzima lipoxigenase no grão, em espaçamento convencional de 0,70 m e reduzido de 0,45 m. Os tratamentos foram no esquema fatorial 3 x 8, com três formas de manejo com fungicida (Trifloxistrobina + Protioconazol) e oito híbridos de milho, sendo divididos em dois grupos (tolerantes e suscetíveis), com três repetições, totalizando 72 parcelas em cada ambiente (espaçamento convencional e reduzido), na safra agrícola 2013/2014. As seguintes caractrísticas foram avaliadas: porcentagem de grãos ardidos e expressão da enzima lipoxigenase (LOX) nos grãos. O fungicida reduziu a incidência de grãos ardidos, e a maior redução ocorreu nos híbridos suscetíveis, com duas aplicações, V8 e V8+VT. Houve maior expressão da enzima LOX em híbridos de milho pertencentes ao grupo tolerante aos fungos causadores de grãos ardidos. A aplicação do fungicida em duas aplicações, V8 (oito folhas) e VT (pendoamento), aumentou a intensidade da enzima LOX, mais evidente no espaçamento reduzido.

ABSTRACT. This study was carried out with the objective of evaluating the effect of fungicide application on grain rot in commercial maize hybrids and the relation between grain rot and the expression of lipoxygenase enzyme in grain in conventional row spacing of 0.70 m and reduced row spacing of 0.45 m. Treatments were made in a 3 x 8 factorial scheme, using three forms of management with fungicide (Trifloxystrobin + Prothioconazole) and eight maize hybrids divided into two groups (tolerant and susceptible) with three repetitions, totaling 72 plots in each environment (conventional and reduced spacing) in the 2013/2014 crop. The following characteristics were evaluated: grain rot percentage and lipoxygenase enzyme expression (LOX) in the grain. The hybrid and the fungicide utilized influenced the grain rot percentage. Grain rot percentage was reduced by the use of the fungicide, and the highest reduction was in susceptible hybrids with two applications, V8 and V8+VT. There was higher expression of LOX enzyme in maize hybrids that belong to the group tolerant of fungi that cause grain rot .The use of the fungicide in two applications, V8 (eight leaves) and VT (tasseling), increased the intensity of the LOX enzyme, which was more evident for the reduced spacing.

RESUMO. Objetivou-se avaliar o comportamento de 46 linhagens S4 de milho provenientes do cruzamento entre os híbridos comerciais Penta x P30F53 em topcrosses com o híbrido simples comercial Dow8460 (testador), mais as testemunhas (híbridos Penta, P30F53, Dow8460 e Status). A produtividade de grãos foi avaliada em dois ambientes em Guarapuava, estado do Paraná e houve efeito significativo de genótipos, ambientes e da interação genótipos x ambientes. Entre os híbridos topcrosses a produtividade de grãos variou de 8.416 a 13.428 kg ha-1. No ambiente 1 foram avaliadas características agronômicas da forragem e bromatológicas da silagem. A produtividade de massa verde da forragem variou de 48.767 a 87.714 kg ha-1e a produtividade de massa seca de 14.749 a 26.130 kg ha-1. Os teores de fibra em detergente neutro da silagem variaram de 44,85 a 58,45% e os teores de fibra em detergente ácido de 28,28 a 37,06%. O valor relativo da silagem oscilou entre 100,5 e 138,5. Os híbridos topcrosses HTC 109 e HTC 183 foram superiores considerando todo o conjunto de caracteres forrageiros e bromatológicos da silagem e, ainda, apresentaram elevada produtividade de grãos, indicando que suas respectivas linhagens S4 contribuíram com alelos favoráveis para as características avaliadas.

ABSTRACT. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of 46 maize lines (S4) obtained from crosses between the commercial hybrids Penta x P30F53 in topcrosses with the commercial simple cross hybrid Dow8460 (tester) and checks (hybrids Penta, P30F53, Dow8460 and Status). The grain yield was evaluated in two environments in Guarapuava, Paraná State, and the effects of genotype, environment and genotype x environment interaction were significant. The grain yield of the topcross hybrids ranged from 8,416 to 13,428 kg ha-1. The agronomic characteristics of the forage and the bromatological characteristics of the silage were evaluated in environment 1. The green mass yield of the forage ranged from 48,767 to 87,714 kg ha-1 and the dry mass yield ranged from 14,749 to 26,130 kg ha-1. The neutral detergent fiber content ranged from 44.85 to 58.45% and the acid detergent fiber content ranged from 28.28 to 37.06%. The relative feed value of the silage ranged between 100.5 and 138.5. The tester, hybrid Dow8460, was efficient to discriminate the relative performance of the S4 lines in the topcrosses.

RESUMO. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a vitreosidade em híbridos comerciais de milho com grãos duros e dentados, e estudar o efeito desta característica no comportamento agronômico, valor nutricional e na degradabilidade ruminal dos grãos colhidos no ponto de silagem. Foram avaliados 12 híbridos comerciais de milho. Estes híbridos foram divididos em dois grupos (seis com grãos duros e seis com grãos dentados). Os experimentos foram conduzidos em dois municípios representados por Guarapuava e Laranjeiras do Sul, no Paraná. A colheita para análise da qualidade dos grãos foi feita no estádio de 3/4 da linha do leite no grão. Foram avaliadas as seguintes características: produtividade de grão secos, produtividade de grãos no ponto de ensilagem, vitreosidade, digestibilidade ruminal de grãos, fibra em detergente neutro, fibra em detergente ácido e proteína bruta. Há uma melhor digestibilidade ruminal dos grãos no grupo de híbridos dentados, associada a menor vitreosidade quando comparada ao grupo de híbridos duros. Existe correlação negativa entre a vitreosidade e a digestibilidade dos grãos e podem ser um critério para selecionar genótipos destinados à produção de forragem.

ABSTRACT. The aim of this research was to evaluate vitreousness in commercial corn hybrids with flint and dent grains and to study the effect of this characteristic on agronomic behavior, nutritional value, and ruminal degradability of grains harvested in silage maturity. Twelve commercial corn hybrids were evaluated. They were divided in two groups (six with flint grains and six with dent grains). The experiments were conducted in two municipalities represented by Guarapuava and Laranjeiras do Sul, both in Paraná State. The harvest for the grain quality analysis was performed at 3/4 of the milk line stage in the grain. The following characteristics were evaluated: grain yield, grain yield in silage maturity, vitreousness, ruminal digestibility of grain, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber and crude protein. The grains in the group of dent hybrids exhibited better degradability associated with lower vitreousness than the group of flint hybrids. The group of dent hybrids exhibited better ruminal digestibility of the grains associated with lower vitreousness versus the group of flint hybrids. There is a negative correlation between vitreousness and the digestibility of the grain; thus, vitreousness can be a criterion for selecting genotypes for forage production.

O uso sucessivo de híbridos de milho com resistência variada aos fungos causadores de podridão de grãos tem causado aumento na importância dessas doenças a cada safra. Conduziu-se este trabalho com o objetivo de avaliar pelo teste de sanidade (blotter test) a severidade do fungo Fusarium verticilioides e a incidência dos fungos Stenocarpella maydis e Stenocarpella macrospora em grãos de milho, oriundos de híbridos comerciais, com e sem a inoculação artificial a campo, em dois sistemas de cultivo, convencional e sistema de semeadura direta e em dois anos agrícolas. O experimento foi conduzido a campo, em blocos casualizados, com três repetições. Em laboratório, foram avaliadas, pelo método de "blotter test", a severidade do fungo F. verticilioides e a incidência dos fungos S. maydis e S. macrospora causadores de podridões de espiga. A avaliação pelo teste de sanidade (blotter test) evidenciou a diferença entre os híbridos quanto a reação aos fungos F.verticilioides, S. maydis e S. macrospora. Houve influência do híbrido, da safra agrícola e do sistema de cultivo sobre a infecção dos fungos causadores de podridões de espigas, sendo que o sistema plantio direto favorece o aumento dos fungos responsáveis pelos grãos ardidos em milho. A utilização da inoculação artificial, em campo, visando a selecionar genótipos resistentes aos fungos causadores do "complexo de grãos ardidos" é eficiente.

The continued use of corn hybrids with varied resistance to grain rot-causing fungal agents increases the importance of these diseases every year. The objective of this work was to evaluate, by a sanitary test (blotter test), the severity of the fungus Fusarium verticilioides and the incidence of Stenocarpella maydis and Stenocarpella macrospora in corn grain from commercial hybrids, with and without in-field artificial inoculation, under two cultivation systems (conventional and direct sowing), over two crop seasons. The experiment was carried out under field conditions, using an experimental randomized blocks design, with three replications. In the laboratory, the severity of F. verticilioides and the incidence of S. maydis and S. macrospora ,the causative agents of ear rot in corn, were evaluated by the "blotter test" method. The blotter test evaluation allowed us to detect differences between the hybrids in their reactions to the fungi F. verticilioides, S. maydis and S. macrospora. The crop season and cultivation system used had the most influence on fungal infection in the hybrids. The direct sowing system showed an increase in the fungal infection responsible for causing grain rot. The use of artificial inoculation, in-field, to select genotypes resistant to the fungal agents causing the "grain rot complex" is efficient.

Como existem poucas informações sobre o manejo cultural do sorgo em regiões do semiárido, neste trabalho foram instalados dois experimentos, avaliando-se três densidades de plantas e três espaçamentos de cultivares de sorgo granífero, em dois anos agrícolas, na Região Norte do Estado de Minas Gerais. Em cada ano foram instalados experimentos em áreas contíguas, adotando-se, respectivamente, os espaçamentos entre linhas de 50 cm, 70 cm e 90 cm e no outro experimento foram avaliadas três densidades de semeadura, 100 mil, 140 mil e 180 mil plantas ha-1. Também, em ambos os experimentos, foram avaliadas quatro cultivares de sorgo: SHS400, 1G220, BRS310 e 0992045, em delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados no esquema fatorial 3 x 4, com três repetições. Com a redução dos espaçamentos entre fileiras promoveram-se incrementos na produtividade de grãos e panículas do sorgo granífero, independentemente da população de plantas e cultivar avaliado. A viabilidade do aumento da densidade de semeadura é dependente da cultivar, do espaçamento e das condições climáticas prevalecentes no ano agrícola considerado. As cultivares BRS 310 e 1G220 de sorgo granífero são promissoras para produção de grãos no semiárido da Região Norte de Minas Gerais.

There is little information about sorghum management in semiarid areas. Therefore, three row spacing and three sowing densities of sorghum grain cultivars were evaluated during two crop seasons, in the North of Minas Gerais State, Brazil. In each season, two experiments were carried out on contiguous areas, adopting 50 cm, 70 cm and 90 cm as row spacing in the first one and three sowing densities (100000, 140000, 180000 plants ha-1) in the second one. In both experiments, four cultivars were evaluated: SHS400, 1G220, BRS310 and 0992045. The experimental design was in random blocks, in 3 x 4 factorial schemes, with three repetitions. Reduction in row spacing promotes increases in grain and panicles productivity of grain sorghum. The viability of increasing sowing density depends on cultivar and row spacing and of climatic conditions prevailing in cropping year. The BRS310 and 1G220 cultivars are promising for grain production in the North of Minas Gerais State.

Na recomendação de um híbrido para produção de silagem, não basta apenas considerar a produção de matéria seca; é necessário também que a silagem tenha alta degradabilidade efetiva (DEF) da matéria seca da planta inteira. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar as características agronômicas, bromatológicas e de degradabilidade ruminal da matéria seca de híbridos comerciais de milho recomendados para a produção de silagem e de híbridos experimentais provenientes do cruzamento entre linhagens de alta e baixa degradabilidade. Foi avaliado o desempenho de 23 híbridos de milho, sendo dezoito híbridos experimentais e cinco comerciais, indicados para silagem. O experimento foi instalado no ano agrícola 2003/2004, com delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, com três repetições e a parcela experimental constituída de quatro linhas de 5,0 metros. As plantas foram colhidas a 20 cm do solo, no estádio da linha de leite na metade do grão (farináceo/duro). As silagens foram incubadas in situ por 0, 6, 12, 24 e 96 horas, no rúmen de três vacas fistuladas e a degradabilidade efetiva foi calculada assumindo taxa de passagem de -0,05%/hora. Foi observado que entre as cultivares avaliadas, há híbridos com grande potencial para a produção de silagem de qualidade com alta degradabilidade da matéria seca de planta inteira (DEF), independentemente da textura do grão; é correto o uso da estratégia de sintetizar híbridos visando à alta degradabilidade efetiva da matéria seca da planta inteira (DEF) utilizando linhagens que apresentam alta DEF. A baixa correlação da degradabilidade efetiva com características agronômicas e bromatológicas, evidencia a necessidade de maior utilização da DEF na seleção de híbridos de milho, visando à produção de silagem de qualidade.

In order to recommend corn hybrids for silage it is not enough to have high dry matter. It is also necessary that the silage presents high effective matter degradation (DEF) of the whole plant. This investigation had the objective of evaluating agronomic, bromatologic, and rumen degradability of dry matter of commercial corn hybrids, recommended for silage production, and also experimental hybrids from crosses of lines of high and low degradability. It was evaluated the performance of eighteen experimental hybrids and five commercial hybrids recommend for silage production. The experiment was established in 2003/2004 crop season in randomized block design with three replications. The experimental plot was constituted of four rows 5.0 meters long. Corn plants were harvested at 20 cm from soil level at milk line at half grain stage. The silages were incubated in situ for 0, 6, 12, 24 and 96 hours in the rumen of three fistulated cows. Effective degradability was calculated based on 0.05%/h of passage rate. It was observed that among cultivars there were hybrids, that present good potential for silage production with high effective matter degradation (DEF) of the whole plant, independently of grain texture. The strategy of synthesizing hybrids aiming at high dry matter effective degradability based on lines with high DEF is correct. The low correlation between effective degradability with a agronomic, and bromatologic characteristics indicate the need for better use of DEF in order to select corn hybrids of high quality of silage production.

Entre as técnicas empregadas para a obtenção de maior produtividade de milho, o arranjamento de plantas e a época de aplicação da cobertura nitrogenada estão entre as mais importantes, associados à escolha do híbrido e do sistema de cultivo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar, em sistema de plantio direto, a influência de quatro tratamentos com adubação nitrogenada, associadas a três densidades de semeadura e dois espaçamentos entre linhas, para duas cultivares de milho na Região Sudeste do Tocantins. No local, foram instalados dois experimentos em sistema de plantio direto, sendo o primeiro instalado com o espaçamento de 0,45 m e o segundo com 0,90 m. Em cada experimento foram avaliados dois híbridos de milho (P 30K75 e TORK), quatro densidades de semeadura (55 mil, 70 mil e 85 mil plantas ha-1) e quatro tratamentos com adubação nitrogenada: 40 kg ha-1 de N aplicados por ocasião da semeadura, sem nenhuma cobertura nitrogenada; 40 kg ha-1 de N na semeadura + 120 kg ha-1 de N aplicados em cobertura logo após a semeadura; 40 kg ha-1 de N na semeadura + 60 kg ha-1 de N em cobertura no estádio de 4 a 5 folhas + 60 kg ha-1 de N em cobertura no estádio de 7 a 8 folhas; 40 kg ha-1 de N na semeadura + 120 kg ha-1 de N em cobertura no estádio de 6 a 7 folhas. O parcelamento da adubação nitrogenada em cobertura contribuiu para o aumento da produtividade de grãos de milho. O aumento na densidade de plantas resultou no aumento da altura de plantas e da produtividade de grãos de milho. O espaçamento de 0,45 m proporcionou maior produtividade de grãos, independentemente da densidade de plantas e do híbrido de milho. O híbrido P 30K75 obteve maior produtividade de grãos que o híbrido TORK.

Among the practices and techniques employed for obtaining increased corn yield, the choice of plant arrangement and time of nitrogen topdressing are, among the most important, associated with the choice of the hybrid and cropping system. The objective of this trial was to study the influence of four nitrogen application timing, associated with three sowing rates and two row spacings, under no-tillage system, using two corn hybrids in southeastern Tocantins State. On the site, two experiments in no-tillage system were established, the first one being set up with the spacing of 0.45 m and the second spacing of 0.90 m. In each experiment, two corn hybrids (P 30K75 and TORK), three sowing rates (55 thousand, 70 thousand and 85 thousand plants ha-1) and four nitrogen application timing: 40 kg ha-1 of N applied at sowing time without nitrogen topdressing; 40 kg ha-1 of N at sowing + 120 kg ha-1 of N topdressed just after sowing; 40 kg ha-1 of N at sowing + 60 kg ha-1 of N topdressed at the stage of 4 to 5 leaves + 60 kg ha-1 of N topdressed at the stage of 7 to 8 leaves, 40 kg ha-1 of N at sowing + 120 kg ha-1 of N topdressed at the stage of 6 to 7 leaves. Fractioning nitrogen application increased corn grain yield. As plant density increased, plant height and grain yield increased. Plant spacing of 0.45 m promoted higher grain yield regardless plant density and hybrid used. The P30K75 hybrid obtained higher grain yield than TORK hybrid.
