RESUMO Teca (Tectona grandis) é uma espécie florestal cultivada em regiões tropicais do mundo, devido às características de sua madeira e seu grande valor econômico no mercado. No Brasil, as plantações originais estão sendo substituídas por florestas clonais selecionadas, o que gera a necessidade e o interesse de proteger esse material genético com base na legislação vigente. Os requisitos legais para proteção de cultivares são que o genótipo seja resultante de melhoramento genético e apresentar distinguibilidade, homogeneidade e estabilidade (DHE). Este trabalho identifica descritores morfológicos em mudas de teca para auxiliar no processo de proteção dos clones da espécie. O estudo foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com avaliação de 7 clones e 15 mudas por clone, avaliados com 30, 60, 90 e 120 dias de idade. As informações foram organizadas com base nas matrizes de presença e ausência das variações para cada clone, por 21 características morfológicas. Posteriormente, foram estimadas medidas de similaridade genética, por meio do índice de Jaccard e o agrupamento pelo método UPGMA. Foi possível diferenciar os clones, com 12, 7, 9 e 11 caracteres morfológicos para compor os descritores morfológicos com 30, 60, 90 e 120 dias de idade, respectivamente. As características da lâmina foliar: comprimento, largura, relação comprimento/largura, intensidade da cor verde da folha e brilho da folha, foram comuns para todas as idades avaliadas, mas seus respectivos níveis de expressão foram diferentes.

ABSTRACT Teak (Tectona grandis) is a forest species cultivated in tropical regions worldwide, due to the traits of its wood and its great economic value on the market. In Brazil, original plantations are being replaced by selected clonal forests, which generate the need and interest to protect this genetic material based on the current legislation. The legal requirements for cultivar protection are that the genotype must result from genetic improvement and provide distinguishability, homogeneity, and stability (DHS). This work identifies morphological descriptors in teak cuttings to assist the clone protection process of the species. The study was conducted in a completely randomized design with the evaluation of 7 clones and 15 cuttings per clone, at 30, 60, 90, and 120 days old. The information was also organized based on the arrays of presence and absence of variations for each clone, for 21 morphological traits. Subsequently, genetic similarity measures were estimated using the Jaccard index and the UPGMA clustering method. The clones with the 12, 7, 9, and 11 morphological traits formed the morphological descriptors for the 30, 60, 90, and 120 days old cuttings, respectively. The traits of the leaf blade: length, width, length/width ratio, green intensity, and the brightness of the leaf, were common for all the evaluated ages, but their respective levels of expression were different.

Abstract Urban trees/vegetation are one of the factors related to a better quality of life of the population. Therefore, knowledge on the structure and quality of urban green areas is important to implement actions that intensify this benefit. This study aimed to quantify the floristic composition of the Universidade Federal do Mato Grosso, in Cuiabá. A census was conducted to count individuals with soil circumference ≥ 15.7 cm, wherein 190 species were identified, with Fabaceae being the most representative family at 24.2%. Of the total, 23.7% are exotic species to Brazil and 62.6% are native to the Cerrado. The most abundant species were Licania tomentosa, with 8.9% of individuals, Mangifera indica at 7.8%, Jacaranda cuspidifolia with 6.3%, Handroanthus impetiginosus with 5.4%, and Anadenanthera peregrine with 4.4%. The university campus houses a high floristic richness and diversity of species, with an adequate proportion of Brazilian native species. However, its composition needs to be adapted to comply with municipal legislation.

RESUMO O objetivo foi avaliar a eficiência dos modelos fenotípicos de competição, via análise espacial, na avaliação genética de testes de progênies de Pinus taeda L. Para isso foram utilizadas quatro covariáveis de competição para ajuste dos valores fenotípicos em um teste de progênies de P. taeda plantado em quatro diferentes locais no estado de Santa Catarina. O teste foi implantado em delineamento de blocos casualizados, com sete repetições, parcelas lineares de seis plantas e espaçamento de 2,5 m x 2,0 m. O teste instalado nos locais A, B e D possuem 63 famílias e no local C 53 famílias. Aos nove anos de idade foi efetuada a mensuração da variável diâmetro à altura do peito de todos os indivíduos. A presença ou não da competição foi baseada nos coeficientes de autocorrelação residual, que teve sua significância testada pelo teste de Durbin-Watson. No geral, o uso de covariáveis corrigiu o efeito da competição e as variâncias entre e dentro de parcela e o coeficiente de variação residual foram reduzidos. A análise espacial foi apropriada para validar a eficiência das covariáveis. A classificação pelo efeito genético dos indivíduos no teste de progênies foi extremamente alterada para o conjunto de dados com e sem o uso de covariáveis para os locais A e D, assim como a interação genótipo x ambiente. O uso dessas duas ferramentas é de suma importância na análise de dados em testes de progênies de P. taeda, pois os efeitos de competição podem conduzir a erros na seleção de indivíduos e na definição de zonas de melhoramento.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of the phenotypic models of competition, through spatial analysis in the genetic evaluation of Pinus taeda L progenies. For this, four competition covariates were used to adjust the phenotypic values in a P. taeda progeny test installed in four different locations in the state of Santa Catarina. The test was implemented in randomized block design, with seven repetitions, linear plots containing six plants per plot in 2.5 m x 2.0 m spacing. The test installed in sites A, B, and D present 63 families and site C 53 families. At nine years old, the diameter at the breast height was measured for all individuals. The presence or absence of competition was based on the residual autocorrelation coefficients, which had its significance tested by the Durbin-Watson test. In general, the use of covariates corrected the competition effect. The variances among and within plots, as well as the residual variation coefficient, were reduced. The classification by the genetic effect of the individuals in the progeny test was extremely altered for this data set with and without the use of covariates for sites A and D, as well as the genotype x environment interaction. The use of these two tools is of great importance in the analysis of data in P. taeda progeny tests, since the effects of competition can lead to mistakes in the selection of individuals and in the definition of improvement zones.

RESUMO. Objetivou-se estudar a composição florística e estrutural de um fragmento secundário de Floresta Estacional Semidecidual em Tapurah (Estado do Mato Grosso, Brasil). Aplicou-se o método de área fixa com conglomerados de dimensões de 10 × 250 m, sendo alocados e medidos cinco conglomerados com cinco subunidades de 500 m² cada. Foram consideradas as espécies com diâmetro à altura do peito superior ou igual a 10 cm e verifirada a suficiência amostral do levantamento florístico pela curva espécie-área. A similaridade florística entre as subunidades amostrais foi obtida com o Índice de Jaccard e a diversidade de espécies pelos Índices de Diversidade de Shannon e Equabilidade de Pielou. Para caracterização da estrutura horizontal da vegetação foram utilizados a densidade, frequência e dominância, relativas e absolutas, e os valores de importância ecológica e a estrutura diamétrica pelo procedimento de Spiegel. Destacou-se a elevada representatividade das famílias Vochysiaceae, Fabaceae e Sapindaceae e como as mais importantes as espécies Qualea paraensis, Aspidosperma discolor e Matayba arborescens. Foi verificada elevada diversidade e baixa dominância ecológica das espécies e a estrutura diamétrica das árvores apresentou distribuição exponencial negativa. A estrutura, composição florística e riqueza da vegetação corresponde a de floresta com comunidade estável e autorregenerativa após a extração seletiva.

ABSTRACT. This study was conducted in one region of a Seasonal Semideciduous Forest located in Tapurah (Mato Grosso State, Brazil) with the aim of studying its floristic and structural composition. The fixed area method was applied to 10 × 250 m clusters, allocating and measuring five clusters with five subunits of 500 m² each. Species with a diameter at breast height greater than or equal to 10 cm were considered, and the sample sufficiency of the floristic survey was verified by a species accumulation curve. The similarities between the sample subunits were calculated by the Jaccard Similarity Index, and the species diversity with the Shannon Diversity Index and Pielou Evenness Index. The horizontal vegetation structure was characterized by density, frequency, dominance and the values of ecological importance, and diametric distribution were assessed by the Spiegel procedure. The families Vochysiaceae, Fabaceae and Sapindaceae were highly represented, and Qualea paraensis, Aspidosperma discolor and Matayba arborescens were the most important species. A high diversity and low ecological dominance were found, and the diametric structure of the trees presented a negative exponential distribution. In general, the structure, floristic composition and richness of vegetation correspond to a forest with stable and autoregenerative community after selective logging.

RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar o estoque e a retenção hídrica da serapilheira de 15 clones de espécies e de híbridos de Eucalyptus, aos três anos de idade. Foram coletadas amostras de 1 m2 da serapilheira acumulada por repetição. Cada amostra foi separada em frações galhos, folhas e material amorfo. As frações foram secas em estufa de ventilação forçada até peso constante e, posteriormente, foi determinada sua massa seca. A capacidade de retenção hídrica foi determinada com a técnica estabelecida em 1955 por Blow. Não houve diferenças significativas em relação ao estoque de serapilheira, contudo a média de acúmulo foi de 4,96 Mg.ha–1, com variação entre 3,34 e 4,96 Mg.ha–1. As frações contribuíram na seguinte ordem decrescente: folha > material amorfo > galhos. A capacidade de retenção hídrica (CRH) média foi de 249,58%, tendo havido valor significativamente menor para os clones S-0208, S-0303 e S-0412. A frações contribuíram na seguinte ordem decrescente: material amorfo > folhas > galhos. Apesar da diferença significativa entre a CRH das frações, todas contribuem para a retenção hídrica total da serapilheira.

ABSTRACT This research aimed to evaluate the stock and water retention of 15 litter clones and hybrids of the species Eucalyptus, with three years of age. Samples of 1m2 of accumulated litter were collect by repetition. Each sample was separated into fractions consisting of twigs, leaves and amorphous material. The fractions were dried in a forced air kiln until they reached constant weight and, then the dry mass was determined. The water retention capacity was evaluate using the technique established by Blow in 1955. There were no significant differences reagrding litter stock, however, average accumulation was 4.96 Mg.ha–1 and variation between 3.34 to 4.96 Mg.ha–. Fractions contributed in the following descending order: leaf> amorphous material> twigs. Water retention capacity average (WRC) was 249.58%, the value was significantly lower to S-0208, S-0303 and S-0412 clones. The fractions contributed in decreasing order: amorphous material> leaves> twigs. Despite the significant difference between the fractions of WRC, all contribute to total water retention litter.

O presente trabalho objetivou estimar parâmetros, correlações e ganhos genéticos para caracteres de crescimento e forma, em um teste de progênies deEucalyptus camaldulensis na região centro-oeste do Brasil. Aos três anos de idade, as progênies foram avaliadas quanto aos caracteres: altura total (ALTT), altura comercial (ALTC), diâmetro à altura do peito (DAP) e forma de fuste (FF). A análise de deviance detectou diferenças significativas para os caracteres ALTC, DAP e FF. As estimativas das herdabilidades individuais foram de baixa magnitude para ALTT (0,10) e DAP (0,16), porém, ALTC (0,18) e FF (0,25) apresentaram valores de média a alta magnitude. Os coeficientes de variação genética individual (CVgi%) variaram de 8,59% para FF a 15,91% para ALTC. As correlações fenotípicas e genéticas preditas foram positivas e de alta magnitude entre ALTT e ALTC (0,80 e 0,82, respectivamente) e ALTT e DAP (0,85 e 0,86, respectivamente), indicando que a seleção indireta pode ser utilizada para essas associações. A seleção individual se mostrou superior, quando comparada à seleção entre e dentro. Os valores encontrados indicaram perspectivas de progressos genéticos com seleção baseada nos caracteres avaliados.

This study aimed to estimate parameters, correlations and genetic gain for growth and shape traits in a progeny trial using Eucalyptus camaldulensisin Central Brazil. When it was three years old, progenies were evaluated for the following traits: total height (ALTT), commercial height (ALTC), diameter at breast height (DAP) and stem form (FF). Deviance analysis detected significant differences for ALTC, DAP and FF. Estimates of individual heritability showed low magnitude for ALTT (0.10) and DAP (0.16). However, ALTC (0.18) and FF (0.25), showed median to high magnitude values. Individual genetic variation coefficients (CVgi%), ranged from 8.59% (FF) to 15.91% (ALTC). Predicted phenotypic and genetic correlations were positive and of high magnitude between ALTT and ALTC (0.80 and 0.82) as well as between ALTT and DAP (0.85 and 0.86), indicating that indirect selection can be used for these associations. Individual selection showed to be superior when compared to selection between and within. Found values indicated perspectives of genetic progress with selection based on the evaluated characters.
