RESUMO Testes de cisalhamento utilizando um viscosímetro de cilindros coaxiais foram realizados no intuito de se determinar as propriedades reológicas de dispersões de goma xantana com bentonita sódica em presença de diferentes concentrações de cloreto de sódio (NaCl) e um valor fixo de concentração de cloreto de cálcio (CaCl2) à temperatura ambiente. A reologia das dispersões com diferentes concentrações de NaCl e bentonita sódica foram preparadas fixando as concentrações de goma xantana e CaCl2 em 0,47% e 0,455% respectivamente (ambas as porcentagens em massa) e utilizando água deionizada como meio dispersivo. As dispersões mostraram um bom ajuste ao modelo reológico de potência modificado (Herschel-Bulkley) através de regressões não lineares. Foi feito um Planejamento Composto Central (PCC) em dois níveis no qual as variáveis independentes foram as concentrações de bentonita sódica e cloreto de sódio e as variáveis dependentes foram o limite de escoamento (τ0), o índice de consistência (k) e o índice de fluxo (n). As amostras foram preparadas sob agitação com 24 horas de antecedência e as medições dos pontos da curva reológica foram obtidas através do viscosímetro Haake. Os resultados da análise mostraram que a tensão limite de escoamento é fortemente influenciada pela concentração de bentonita enquanto que os índices de consistência e fluxo são influenciados tanto pela concentração de bentonita como pela concentração do cloreto de sódio. Esses resultados mostram que é possível melhorar o desempenho de fluidos de perfuração argilosos através da manipulação do teor de sais e argila no mesmo.

ABSTRACT Shear tests using a coaxial cylinders viscometer were performed in order to determine the rheological properties of xanthan gum dispersions with sodium bentonite in the presence of different concentrations of sodium chloride (NaCl) and a fixed concentration of calcium chloride (CaCl2) at room temperature. The dispersions rheology with different concentrations of NaCl and sodium bentonite were prepared by fixing the xanthan gum and CaCl2 concentrations of 0.47% and 0.455% respectively (both mass percentages) using deionized water. The dispersions showed a good fit to modified power rheological model (Herschel-Bulkley) by non-linear regressions. A Central Composite Design was made for two levels. The independent variables were sodium bentonite and sodium chloride concentrations and the dependent variables were the yield point (τ0), the consistency index (k) and the flow index (n). Samples were prepared with stirring 24 hours in advance and the measurement of the rheological curve points were obtained by Haake viscometer. The results of the analysis showed that the yield stress is strongly influenced by the concentration of bentonite while the consistency and flow indexes are influenced by both sodium chloride and sodium bentonite concentrations. These results show that it is possible to improve the performance of clay drilling fluids through manipulation of salts and clay content.

Shear tests using a coaxial cylinders viscometer were performed in order to determine the rheological and thixotropic properties of xanthan gum dispersions with sodium bentonite in the presence of high salt concentrations of sodium and calcium chlorides. The dispersions rheology with different temperatures and concentrations of NaCl, CaCl2 and xanthan gum were prepared by fixing the bentonite concentration of 1%. The dispersions showed a good fit to power law model through linear regressions with the lowest coefficient of determination value of 0,98. A screening was made initially to decide which independent variables potentially affect the rheological and thixotropic parameters. The independent variables were temperature, the xanthan gum and sodium and calcium chlorides concentrations. Then a full factorial design in duplicate with the remaining variables on the same tracks was performed. The results eliminated calcium chloride as an independent variable and revealed a strong dependence of the rheological and thixotropic parameters with temperature and xanthan gum and NaCl concentrations.

Weather conditions and the Brazilian fertile soil contribute to abundant natural resources in a wide variety of fiber types. These fibers have attracted interest in Materials Science area for such characteristics as: low cost, high elasticity modulus and renewability. In this context, the objective of this work was physical, chemical and morphological characterization of purple banana fibers (Musa velutina). The following characterizations were employed: TG, DSC, FTIR, XRD, SEM, density, mechanical properties and chemical composition. The results showed that the purple banana fibers had good thermal, mechanical, morphological and structural properties. Treatment with sodium hydroxide was efficient in removing amorphous regions present on the fiber as evidenced by the chemical composition, increasing the crystallinity index. Therefore, the purple banana fiber is promising as reinforcement in polymer matrices.

As propriedades dinâmicas das soluções aquosas de goma xantana com e sem adição de NaCl ou Al2(SO4)3.18H2O foram medidas em um reômetro de deformação controlada aplicando ciclos de aquecimento e resfriamento. O tempo de relaxação decresceu com o aumento da temperatura; no entanto, este tempo aumentou com a adição de sal nas soluções de 0,5% em peso de goma xantana, mas diminuiu com a adição de 1%. Durante o aquecimento das soluções de goma xantana pura ocorreu uma mudança de conformação a 51 °C, e durante o resfriamento foi observada a formação de duas estruturas: entre 86 e 47 °C e abaixo de 47 °C. Com a adição de sal não houve mudança conformacional durante o aquecimento, enquanto no resfriamento duas estruturas foram novamente observadas, mas para faixas de temperatura diferentes.

The dynamic rheological properties of water xanthan gum solutions with and without the addition of NaCl or Al2(SO4)3.18H2O were measured in a strain controlled rheometer applying heating and cooling cycles. The terminal relaxation time decreased with increasing temperature. This time increased with the addition of 0.5 wt. (%) of salt, but decreased when 1 wt. (%) was added. During heating a conformational change occurred at 51 °C and upon cooling two structures were observed between 86 and 47 °C and below 47 °C. When salt was added there was no conformational change during heating, but the two structures again appeared during cooling, though at different temperature ranges.

Neste trabalho utilizou-se a microalga Pseudokirchneriella supcapitata para a remoção do cádmio em líquidos. A metodologia consistiu de três conjuntos de experimentos: o primeiro conjunto teve como objetivo a avaliação do crescimento da alga, o segundo foi à avaliação da remoção de cádmio e o terceiro a avaliação do crescimento da alga sendo adicionado o cádmio junto com o inóculo no tempo igual a zero, também foi avaliada a remoção de cádmio neste terceiro experimento. O acúmulo de íons metálicos pela alga ocorre em duas etapas: uma absorção muito rápida (adsorção passiva) seguida por uma absorção mais lenta (absorção ativa) Desenvolveu-se um modelo matemático baseado na absorção da superfície e no transporte para o interior da membrana celular. A obtenção dos parâmetros cinéticos do modelo de simulação foi obtida experimentalmente. Pelos resultados observados o modelo matemático proposto mostrou-se adequado quando comparado aos resultados experimentais, confirmando a validação do modelo matemático proposto.

In this work the microalgae Pseudokirchneriella supcapitata was used for the removal of the cadmium in liquids. The accumulations of metal ions by the alga occur in two stages: a very fast absorption (passive adsorption) proceeded by a slower absorption (activate absorption). A mathematical model based on the surface absorption and on the transport into the interior of the cellular membrane was developed. The simulation model kinetic parameters were experimentally obtained. Through the results observed, the mathematical model was shown to be suitable when compared to the experimental results, confirming the validation of the mathematical model.
