Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a eficiência da flotação por ar e ozônio dissolvido (FAOD) em comparação à flotação por ar dissolvido (FAD) no tratamento da água residuária de laticínios (ARL). Na primeira fase do experimento foi utilizada água residuária de laticínios sintética (ARLS) para avaliar a FAD e a FAOD, com e sem a adição de peróxido de hidrogênio em dois valores de pH, 4,0 e 11,4. Nos testes de FAOD, a concentração de ozônio utilizada no ar foi igual a 19 (± 0,5) mg L-1 e nos testes com adição de peróxido de hidrogênio, as relações H2O2/O3 testadas foram de 0,5, 1,0 e 1,5. Na segunda parte do experimento, foram realizados testes com três ARL de três diferentes laticínios para validar os resultados obtidos e determinar a capacidade do sistema FAOD para tratar esse tipo de efluente. Os parâmetros testados durante a validação foram: turbidez, sólidos totais suspensos, óleos e graxas (O&G), demanda química de oxigênio (DQO), demanda bioquímica de oxigênio (DBO), nitrogênio total (NT) e fósforo total (PT). Ao final do experimento, observou-se que a eficiência dos tratamentos foi melhor em pH 4. Os resultados mostraram uma redução da eficiência com o uso da FAOD. A adição de H2O2 na FAD e FAOD também resultou em menor eficiência nos dois sistemas. Os resultados obtidos com ARLS aproximaram-se apenas dos obtidos com o ARL de uma das indústrias que continham os maiores traços de leite e queijo.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of dissolved ozone flotation (DOF) in comparison to dissolved air flotation (DAF) for treatment of milk industry wastewater (MW). In the first phase of the experiment, a synthetic milk wastewater (SMW) was used to evaluate DOF and DAF, with and without addition of hydrogen peroxide, at pH 4.0 and pH 11.4. In the DOF tests, the concentration of ozone was equal to 19 (± 0.5) mg L-1 and in the tests with addition of hydrogen peroxide, the H2O2/O3 ratios tested were 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5. In the second phase, tests were performed using three MW from three different industries to validate the results obtained and to determine the DOF system's ability to treat this type of effluent. The parameters tested during validation were turbidity, total suspended solids, oils and greases (O&G), chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP). It was observed that the efficiency of the treatments was better at pH 4.0. The results showed a reduction of the efficiency with the use of DOF. The addition of H2O2 in DAF and DOF also resulted in reduced system efficiency. The results obtained with SMW only approximated those obtained with the MW from one of the industries that contained the largest traces of milk and cheese.

Resumo Neste trabalho, estudou-se a degradação da matéria orgânica presente no efluente de laticínio sintético por ozonização combinada (ozônio (O3)/peróxido de hidrogênio (H2O2)) e a ozonização catalítica (ozônio (O3)/manganês (Mn2+)) associada com o processo de flotação por ar disperso para obter o ponto ótimo de tratamento. Foi avaliado o efeito dos fatores independentes concentração de O3, pH e concentração de H2O2 e Mn2+. Para o tratamento flotação/O3/H2O2 os parâmetros significativos (p ≤ 0,05) do modelo foram: concentração de O3 (efeito linear e quadrático), concentração de H2O2 (efeito linear e quadrático), valores de pH (linear e quadrático) e interação concentração de O3 versus pH. Para a ozonização catalítica, observou-se que houve diferença significativa no tratamento apenas para o efeito linear da concentração de O3. De acordo com a função de desejabilidade, concluiu-se que a condição ótima para o tratamento de flotação/O3/H2O2 pode ser obtida em meio ácido utilizando concentrações de O3 superiores a 42,9 mg L-1 associada com concentrações de H2O2 mais elevadas que 1071,5 mg L-1. No entanto, em valores de pH maiores do que 9,0, a utilização de O3 pode ser negligenciada quando se usam concentrações mais elevadas do que 1071,5 mg L-1 de H2O2. Observou-se também que a flotação/ozonização catalisada pela adição do metal Mn2+ não afetou o tratamento, obtendo-se como condição ótima de 53,8 mg L-1 O3 e pH 3,6.

Abstract This work investigated the degradation of organic matter present in synthetic dairy wastewater by the combination of ozonation (ozone (O3)/hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)) and catalytic ozonation (ozone (O3)/manganese (Mn2+)) associated with dispersed air flotation process. The effect of independent factors such as O3 concentration, pH and H2O2 and Mn2+ concentration was evaluated. For the flotation/O3/H2O2 treatment, the significant variables (p ≤ 0.05) were: O3 concentration (linear and quadratic effect), H2O2 concentration linear and quadratic effect, pH values (linear and quadratic effect) and interaction O3 concentration versus pH. For catalytic ozonation, it was observed that the significant variable was the linear effect of O3 concentration. According to the desirability function, it was concluded that the optimal condition for the treatment of flotation/O3/H2O2 can be obtained in acidic solution using O3 concentrations greater than 42.9 mg L-1 combined with higher concentrations of H2O2 to 1071.5 mg L-1. On other hand, at pH values higher than 9.0, the addition of O3 may be neglected when using higher concentrations than 1071.5 mg L-1 of H2O2. For flotation/ozonation catalyzed by Mn2+, it was observed that metal addition did not affect treatment, resulting in an optimum condition: 53.8 mg L-1 of O3 and pH 3.6.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a eficácia do ozônio para a desinfecção microbiológica de grãos de milho. Utilizaram-se amostras de 2 kg de grãos de milho, com teor de água de 14,4% b.u., contendo 94% e 97% de infecção natural por Penicillium spp. e Aspergillus spp., respectivamente. Para determinação da concentração e do tempo de saturação dos grãos pelo ozônio, aplicou-se o gás na concentração de 2,14 mg L-1 ao fluxo de 5,8 L min-1 , à temperatura de 25 ºC ± 2°C. O experimento foi instalado segundo esquema de parcela subdividida, tendo, nas parcelas, dois tratamentos (ar atmosférico e gás ozônio), e, nas subparcelas, os tempos de exposição (0, 10, 20, 30 e 50 h), em delineamento inteiramente casualizado. Observou-se que a concentração e o tempo de saturação do ozônio na massa de grãos foram de 0,9874 mg L-1 e 138,56 min, respectivamente. O processo de ozonização foi eficaz no controle de fungos de armazenamento na massa de grãos, com 50 h de exposição ao gás, reduzindo o índice de ocorrência de Aspergillus spp. (78,5%) e Penicillium spp. (98,0%), confirmando, portanto, seu efeito fungicida, nas condições apresentadas.

Abstract This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of ozone in the microbiological disinfection of maize grains. Two kg samples of maize grains were used with moisture contents of 14.4% (w.b.), and 94% and 97% of natural infection by Penicillium spp and Aspergillus spp, respectively. The gas was applied at a concentration of 2.14 mg L-1 and flow rate of 5.8 L min-1 for 370 min at 25 ºC ± 2 ºC in order to determine the ozone concentration and saturation time of the maize grains. The experiment was installed according to a split plot design, with two treatments in the plots (atmospheric air and ozone gas) and exposure times of (0, 10, 20, 30 and 50 h) in the subplots, in a completely randomized design. It was shown that the ozone concentration and saturation time in the grain mass were 0.9874 mg L-1 and 138.56 min, respectively. Ozonation was effective in controlling storage fungi in the grain mass with 50 h of exposure to the gas, reducing the rate of incidence of Aspergillus spp (78.5%) and Penicillium spp (98.0%), thereby confirming its fungicidal effect under the conditions presented.

Resumo Raízes de batata-baroa (Arracacia xanthorrhiza Bancroft) foram imersas em água borbulhada com ozônio, para avaliar o controle de bactérias do gênero Erwinia. Além de análise visual das raízes, avaliaram-se a atividade das enzimas pectinolíticas pectinametilesterase e poligalacturonase, e as características físico-químicas (perda de massa, variação de cor, teores de açúcares e amido), durante o armazenamento. As raízes foram imersas em água ozonizada (1,52 mg L-1), por períodos de até 30 min. Em seguida, foram acondicionadas em câmara climática e avaliadas durante 10 dias. Não houve diferença visual aparente entre os tratamentos. Entretanto, raízes tratadas com ozônio por 30 min apresentaram menor atividade específica das enzimas pectinametilesterase. Houve efeito linear para açúcares solúveis totais e perda de massa, e efeito quadrático para açúcares redutores e não redutores, significativos apenas para o período de armazenamento. A imersão de raízes de batata-baroa em água borbulhada com ozônio por até 30 min não foi suficiente para o controle de bactérias do gênero Erwinia. Nas condições adotadas no trabalho, a ozonização não provoca alteração na perda de massa, no teor de amido, açúcares solúveis totais, açúcares redutores e açúcares não redutores, e na variação de cor das raízes de batata-baroa.

Abstract Arracacha roots (Arracacia xanthorrhiza Bancroft) were immersed in water through which ozone was bubbled to assess the control of bacteria of the genus Erwinia. In addition to a visual analysis of the roots, the activities of the pectinolytic enzymes pectin methylesterase and polygalacturonase were evaluated during storage, and also the physicochemical characteristics (mass loss, colour variation, sugar and starch contents). The roots were immersed in ozonized water (1.52 mg L-1) for periods up to 30 min. They were then placed in a climatic chamber and evaluated for 10 days. There was no apparent visual difference amongst the treatments. However the roots treated with ozone for 30 min showed lower specific activity of the pectin methylesterase enzymes. There was a linear effect on total soluble sugars and mass loss and a quadratic effect on reducing and non-reducing sugars, only significant for storage. Immersion of the arracacha roots in water through which ozone was bubbled for 30 min was not sufficient to control bacteria of the genus Erwinia. Under the conditions adopted in this work, ozonation caused no changes in the mass loss, the starch, total soluble sugars, or reducing and non-reducing sugar contents or in the colour variation of the arracacha roots.

The objective of this study was to optimize and validate a solid-liquid extraction method with low-temperature partitioning (SLE/LTP) for the analysis of pesticides. This method was coupled with gas chromatography (GC/ECD) and used to evaluate the degradation of bifenthrin and pirimiphos-methyl in maize grains on exposure to ozone. The optimized SLE/LTP-GC/ECD method is simple, effective and consumes low quantities of the solvent. It can be routinely used for the determination of bifenthrin and pirimiphos-methyl in maize samples. The use of this method of analysis determined that the levels of the insecticides in maize grains were reduced on exposure of the grains to the ozone gas. The observed reduction in the levels of insecticide was directly proportional to the increase in the concentration of the ozone gas.

Difenoconazole residues in strawberry fruit cultivated in pots were estimated using the solid-liquid extraction with low temperature partition (SLE/LTP) method for sample preparation and gas chromatography with electron capture detection (GC/ECD) for analysis. The optimized method presented excellent recovery values from fortified samples and reproducibility (average recovery values ≥ 98%; CV values < 15%). Linearity of response was demonstrated (r = 0.995) with a detection limit of 9 µg kg-1. The method was successfully applied for the determination of difenoconazole residues in strawberries. Based on these results, the fungicide dissipates quickly, but the residual concentration increases after multiple applications.
