Abstract IAC VR211 and IAC VM211 were developed for growing in Brazil with the aim of responding to the domestic and export market. The cultivars have a mean cycle of 85 days and yield potential of 2,191 kg ha-1 for IAC VR211 and 1,603 kg ha-1 for IAC VM211.

ABSTRACT Water deficit can alter the morphological, agronomic, physiological, and technological traits of the common bean plant, affecting bean grain yield. In addition to yield aspects, the grain post-harvest quality is a decisive factor for the adoption of a new cultivar. Thus, this study evaluated the effect of water deficit on the physiological, morphoagronomic, and technological traits of common bean. The experiment was carried out at in a greenhouse in a randomized block design with a 30 × 2 factorial arrangement, consisting of 30 carioca common bean genotypes and two water regimes (with and without water stress), with three replications. The water deficit affected most morphological, agronomic, and physiological traits; however, it was not significant on the darkening of the seed coat. Cultivars IAC 1849 Polaco, ANFc 5, ANFc 9, BRSMG Madrepérola, IAC Carioca Aruã, TAA Dama, and Branquinho exhibited high yield potential under water stress treatment as well as slow seed coat darkening during nine months of storage. The selection of bean genotypes with slow seed coat darkening could be performed at 30 days of storage.

Abstract: IAC 2153 and IAC 2156 are new common bean cultivars with special bean grains for new markets, especially the international market. They have a mean hundred-seed weight of 50 g, mean cooking time of 32 min, resistance to anthracnose and Fusarium wilt, and moderate resistance to common bacterial blight.

Abstract: The cultivars IAC 201CS and IAC 201CO have a mean cycle of 100 and 110 days, mean 1000 seed weight of 18 and 6 grams, mean total fresh matter weight of 26,287.81 and 36,174.12 kg ha-1, and mean seed weight of 812.57 and 1,017.09 kg ha-1, respectively.

Abstract: IAC 2051 is a common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivar with carioca-type seed coat, mean 1000 seed weight of 300g, indeterminate semi-upright type II growth habit, slow post-harvest seed coat darkening, resistance to Fusarium wilt, common bacterial blight, and three races of anthracnose, and mean yield of 2729 kg ha-1.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the resistance of three common bean genotypes (BRS Estilo, A211 and Mortiño) to the Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. phaseoli using different inoculation methods such as the root-dip, the colonized toothpick, and the agar-based disk-diffusion. After 35 days of inoculation, the disease severity was assessed by vascular discoloration on the stem of the plants by two methods: using a scoring scale and measuring the length of the discoloration with the aid of a millimeter ruler (cm). Results showed that the root-dip was the most effective inoculation method. As for the method of assessing the disease severity, the scoring scale was the best one, in addition to being easier for evaluating large amounts of common bean lines.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to ascertain the association between the REML/BLUP and GGE Biplot methodologies for selection of superior genotypes in regard to adaptability and yield stability for various regions of the Middle North region of Brazil. Sixteen soybean genotypes were evaluated in eight environments during the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 crop seasons, analyzing the following traits: number of days to maturity, plant height, one hundred seed weight, and grain yield. In this study, the REML/BLUP and the GGE Biplot methods are highly correlated in terms of genotype ranking for selection and recommendation purposes. The genotypes BRASBT13-0528, M8372 IPRO, and BRASBT13-0621 most approximate a hypothetical ideal genotype.

RESUMO O feijão fava (Phaseolus lunatus L.) apresenta um grande potencial para o fornecimento de proteína vegetal, mas, o seu cultivo ainda tem pouca relevância se comparado ao do feijão comum (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), sendo, na maioria das vezes, consorciada com outras culturas. A preservação da sua variabilidade genética em bancos de germoplasma assim como o estudo da sua dissimilaridade genética, vem auxiliando no delineamento estratégico para o melhoramento da cultura. O objetivo desse trabalho foi caracterizar a variabilidade genética de caracteres morfoagronômicos e quantificar a dissimilaridade genética entre acessos de feijão-fava por meio de análise multivariada. Foram avaliados oito acessos do Banco Ativo de Germoplasma de Feijão-Fava da Universidade Federal do Piauí, em delineamento de blocos completos ao acaso, com quatro repetições, com base no número de dias para maturação (NDM), comprimento médio da vagem (CV), largura média da vagem (LV), espessura média da vagem (EV), número de sementes por vagem (NSV), peso de cem sementes (P100S) e produtividade (PROD). Dentre os caracteres avaliados, apenas CV, não apresentou variabilidade genética entre os acessos. A análise de divergência mostrou os acessos UFPI 799 e UFPI 817 como os mais divergentes em relação aos demais. O método de agrupamento de Tocher e UPGMA possibilitou a formação de três grupos. O método de Singh indicou que LV, PROD e P100S foram os que mais contribuíram para a divergência genética entre os acessos. Os acessos UFPI 817 e UFPI 797 podem ser utilizados em cruzamentos, pois são distantes geneticamente e complementares em suas características.

ABSTRACT Fava bean (Phaseolus lunatus L.) has great potential for the supply of vegetable protein, but its cultivation is still of little relevance when compared to common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), being, in most cases, intercropped with other crops. The preservation of its genetic variability in germplasm banks, as well as the study of its genetic dissimilarity, has been helping in strategic design for improvement of the crop. The objective of this work was to characterize the genetic variability of morphoagronomic characters and to quantify the genetic dissimilarity among Fava bean accessions by multivariate analysis. Eight accessions from the Active Fava Bean Germplasm Bank of the Federal University of Piauí were evaluated through a randomized complete block design, with four replications, based on the number of days to maturation (NDM), mean pod length (CV), mean pod width (LV), mean pod thickness (EV), number of seeds per pod (NSV), weight of one hundred seeds (P100S) and productivity (PROD). Among the traits evaluated, only CV showed no genetic variability among the accessions. The analysis of divergence showed accessions UFPI 799 and UFPI 817 as the most divergent in relation to the others. The grouping method of Tocher and UPGMA allowed the formation of three groups. Singh's method indicated that LV, PROD and P100S contributed the most to the genetic divergence between the evaluated accessions. The accessions UFPI 817 and UFPI 797 can be used in crossings, as they are genetically distant and complementary in their characteristics.
