Resumo Avaliou-se a dinâmica do componente arbóreo e regenerante em uma floresta nebular, na região do Planalto Sul Catarinense, com o objetivo de se conhecer o processo de desenvolvimento da vegetação ao longo do tempo. Para isso, foram instaladas parcelas permanentes onde foram caracterizados os componentes adulto e regenerante, respectivamente, nos anos de 2011 e 2013. Todas as espécies amostradas foram classificadas quanto à guilda de regeneração em pioneiras, climácicas exigentes em luz e climácicas tolerantes ao sombreamemto. No ano de 2015, foi realizado o segundo inventário dos componentes vegetacionais, sendo determinado o crescimento dos sobreviventes (somente adultos) e contabilizados os indivíduos recrutados e mortos. Para cada uma das populações, foram determinadas as taxas de mudança líquida em número de indivíduos (adultos e regenerantes) e em área basal (adultos). Foram realizados testes de proporções para verificar se a representatividade das diferentes guildas de regeneração se alterou entre os anos avaliados. Os resultados indicaram que a floresta se encontra em um processo de estruturação, caracterizado pelo ganho em número de indivíduos e em área basal. Por outro lado, observou-se estabilidade na riqueza e na representatividade das guildas de regeneração, com destaque para a maior participação de espécies classificadas como clímax exigentes em luz. Conclui-se que a floresta avaliada se encontra em estruturação, com o favorecimento da regeneração de espécies exigentes em luz.

Abstract The dynamics of adult and regenerative tree species components was assessed in a cloud forest in the South Plateau of Santa Catarina state, southern Brazil, seeking a better understanding of the process of vegetation development. To this end, permanent sampling plots were allocated, where the adult and regenerative components were characterized, respectively, in 2011 and 2013. All surveyed species were classified according to regeneration guilds into pioneer, light-demanding climax, and shade-tolerant climax. In 2015, a second tree species component survey was conducted to determine the growth of surviving individuals (adults) and count the recruited and dead individuals. For each population, the net change rates for individuals (adults and regenerative) and basal area (only adults) were determined. Proportion tests were conducted to verify whether representativeness of the regeneration guilds changed over the study period. The results showed that the forest investigated is undergoing a structuring process characterized by gains in number of individuals and basal area. In contrast, stability in species richness and representativeness of regeneration guilds was verified, with highlight for light-demanding climax species. In conclusion, the assessed forest is undergoing a structuring phase that favors the regeneration of light-demanding species.

Resumo Espécies invasoras têm ocasionado a perda de biodiversidade no mundo todo por ocuparem o lugar de nativas. O presente estudo objetivou avaliar a regeneração natural ao longo do tempo em um fragmento florestal invadido por Ligustrum lucidum W.T. Aiton e Ligustrum sinense Lour. no sul do Brasil, a fim de quantificar essa invasão. Para isso, foram alocadas cinco transecções em um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista em Lages (SC), sendo cada transecção dividida em parcelas com diferentes setores de distâncias da borda e em subparcelas para avaliação do componente regenerativo. Em 2012, os regenerantes de espécies arbóreas que se encontravam nas subparcelas foram identificados, plaqueteados e divididos nas seguintes classes: classe 1 _ plantas com altura entre 10 cm e 1 m; classe 2 _ plantas com altura entre 1 e 3 m; classe 3 _ plantas com altura maior que 3 m e diâmetro medido à altura do peito (DAP) menor que 5 cm. Em 2014, esses indivíduos foram reavaliados, contabilizando os indivíduos mortos e recrutas e enquadrando os sobreviventes e recrutas nas atuais classes. Foram calculadas as taxas de mortalidade, recrutamento, mudanças de classe e mudança líquida. Os dados foram analisados por meio de uma análise de componentes principais (ACP) e tabela de contingência. Conclui-se que as espécies superaram a fase inicial do processo de invasão, demonstrando elevado incremento populacional na área estudada. Ainda, ficou evidenciado o particionamento espacial entre as espécies nativas e as exóticas, o que sugere a existência de competição interespecífica, cuja consequência pode ser a extinção local de representantes do grupo autóctone.

Abstract The replacement of native species by invasive species has caused a worldwide loss of biodiversity. This study aimed to evaluate the natural regeneration over time in a forest fragment invaded by Ligustrum lucidum W.T. Aiton and Ligustrum sinense Lour. in southern Brazil, in order to quantify this invasion. To do so, five transects were allocated in a fragment of Araucaria Forest in Lages, Santa Catarina state, with each transect divided into plots in different categories of distance from the edge and into sub-plots for the evaluation of the regenerative component. In 2012, the regenerating tree species identified in the sub-plots were tagged and classified according to height classes: Class 1, plants with height between 10 cm and 1 m; class 2, plants with height between 1 and 3 m; and Class 3, plants with a height greater than 3 m and DBH (diameter measured at breast height) less than 5 cm. In 2014, these individuals were re-evaluated, counting the dead and recruited individuals and classifying the survivors and recruits into the existing height classes. Rates of mortality, recruitment, net change, and height class changes were calculated. The data were analyzed by a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and contingency table. It was concluded that the species overcame the early stage of the invasion process, demonstrating great population growth in the study area. Also, a spatial partitioning between native and exotic species was observed, suggesting the existence of interspecific competition, the result of which may be the local extinction of species from the autochthonous group.

Resumo O presente estudo objetivou analisar a dinâmica do componente arbóreo em floresta com araucária em função da distância da borda, em Santa Catarina, Brasil. Foram realizados levantamentos da vegetação em 2011 e 2015, pelo método de parcelas permanentes, em cinco transeções contendo dez parcelas de 200 m2 cada, sendo as cinco primeiras parcelas (0-50 m) definidas como setor borda e as cinco últimas (50-100 m) como interior. Em 2011, os indivíduos arbóreos foram inventariados e em 2015 os sobreviventes e mortos foram quantificados e os recrutas incorporados ao levantamento. Foram calculadas as taxas de mortalidade e recrutamento e as espécies foram classificadas em guildas de regeneração. Os resultados demonstraram que a dinâmica da comunidade não diferiu entre os setores, porém as guildas de regeneração apresentaram diferentes performances em função da distância da borda, com espécies existentes em luz favorecidas na borda e espécies tolerantes ao sombreamento no interior. Conclui-se que a fragmentação florestal tem o potencial de impactar negativamente o componente arbóreo na floresta com araucária.

Abstract This study aimed to analyze the tree component dynamics in an araucaria forest in function of fragment edge distance in the Santa Catarina state, Brazil. To do so, we conducted the vegetation surveys in 2011 and 2015, through permanent plots, in five sampling transects, containing ten 200 m2 plots for each one. The first five plots (0-50 m) were defined as edge sector and the last five plots (50-100 m) were considered as interior sector. In 2011, tree individuals were surveyed, with the recruit and dead individuals counted in 2015. The rates of mortality and recruitment were determined, and the species were classified into regeneration guilds. The study showed that there was no difference in tree community dynamics between the analyzed sectors, but the regeneration guilds presented different performance in function of edge distance, with light-demanding species succeeding in edge and shade-tolerant species performing better in the interior. We conclude that forest fragmentation has the potential to impact negatively the tree component in Araucaria forest.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi conhecer os padrões demográficos da regeneração natural do componente arbustivo-arbóreo e determinar se esses são influenciados pelas variáveis ambientais, em três áreas abertas em regeneração natural (diâmetro na altura do peito < 5 cm), em contato com fragmentos florestais de Floresta Ombrófila Mista Alto-Montana, no Planalto Sul Catarinense. Foram instaladas três transecções, uma por área, de 20 x 100 m, subdividas em subparcelas de 10 x 10 m, perpendiculares à borda dos fragmentos, com sua extensão cobrindo a área de campo. Amostraram-se todos os indivíduos regenerantes arbustivo-arbóreos com 20 cm ou mais de altura. Em cada subparcela, foram coletados os seguintes dados ambientais: propriedades físico-químicas dos solos, grau de compactação dos solos e cota altimétrica. Um ano após o inventário, foram obtidas as taxas de dinâmica para as três comunidades e para as populações, e os padrões encontrados foram relacionados com as variáveis ambientais. Os dados foram analisados por meio de testes de Kruskal-Wallis, testes de comparações múltiplas, teste de qui-quadrado aplicado à tabela de contingência, teste de correlação, Análise de Componentes Principais (PCA) e modelos lineares mistos. Os resultados demonstraram que, no período estudado, o processo de regeneração natural do componente arbustivo-arbóreo encontra-se em fase inicial e foi caracterizado pelo incremento na abundância de indivíduos, estabilidade na riqueza, independência espacial entre a mortalidade e o recrutamento e limitação do recrutamento em função da baixa fertilidade natural do solo e elevada disponibilidade de Al.

Abstract The study aimed to understand the dynamic patterns of natural regeneration of shrub-tree species and determine whether these patterns are influenced by environmental variables, in three open areas in natural regeneration (diameter at breast height < 5 cm), in contact to upper-montane Araucaria Forest fragments, located in the Southern Plateau of Santa Catarina state. Three 20x100 m transects, subdivided into sub-plots of 10x10 m, were installed in each area, perpendicular to the edge of the fragments with their length covering the grassland area. All shrub-tree regenerating individuals greater than or equal to 20 cm height were sampled. In each sub-plot, the environmental data were collected: soil physico-chemical properties, the degree of soil compaction and the altimetric quota. One year after the first inventory, the dynamics rates were obtained for the three community and populations, and the found patterns related to environmental variables. The data were analyzed through Kruskal-Wallis tests, multiple comparison tests, chi-square test, applied to a contingency table, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and linear mixed models. The results demonstrated that during the evaluated period, the natural regeneration process of the shrub-tree component is found in an early stage and it was characterized by abundance increment, richness stability, spatial independency between mortality and recruitment, and recruitment limitation in function of low soil natural fertility and high Al availability.

RESUMO O presente estudo teve como objetivo investigar o impacto do enchimento do reservatório de uma usina hidrelétrica sobre as taxas de dinâmica do componente arbóreo em uma floresta adjacente. Para isso, foram alocadas 48 parcelas em três setores do fragmento: adjacente às margens do reservatório, meio da encosta e topo da encosta. Um ano após o enchimento do reservatório, todos os indivíduos arbóreos com circunferência a altura do peito (CAP) ≥ 15,7 cm foram avaliados (identificados e mensurados), e dois anos após o enchimento foi realizado o estudo de dinâmica, com as árvores sobreviventes remedidas, as mortas quantificadas e as recrutas incorporadas. Foi realizado o levantamento das variáveis ambientais edáficas, topográficas, de abertura do dossel e de impacto ambiental. Foram calculadas as taxas de dinâmica. Para ordenação das variáveis ambientais foi aplicada uma Análise de Componentes Principais (PCA) e a influência de gradientes ambientais sobre as taxas demográficas da comunidade foi verificada por meio de regressão logística. A dinâmica apresentou estabilidade no número de indivíduos, porém, com maior ganho (3,64%.ano-1) que perda (1,62%.ano-1) em área basal. Entre os setores houve distinções, sendo o setor 1 caracterizado pela maior taxa de perda em área basal (2,51%.ano-1). Houve pouca relação das taxas demográficas com as variáveis ambientais analisadas, indicando que a maior influência encontrada sobre o crescimento das árvores está associada a variáveis não mensuradas. O presente estudo indica que, dois anos após o enchimento do reservatório, foi possível perceber os primeiros efeitos da influência do lago da hidrelétrica na comunidade arbórea.

ABSTRACT We aimed to investigate the impact of the water reservoir of a hydroelectric power station on the tree component dynamics in an adjacent forest. For this, we allocated 48 plots in three sectors: bottom, adjacent to water reservoir, middle slope and upper slope. One year after the water filling, we measured (circumference at breast height - cbh and identified all trees with cbh) ≥ 15,7 cm, followed by the dynamics study in the next year, with the re-measurement of survival trees and quantification of mortality and recruitment. We evaluated environmental variables (edaphics, topographics and environmental impacts). We determined the dynamics rates and applied a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to the ordination of environmental variables and analyzed the influence of environmental gradients on community demographics rates through logistic regression. The dynamics presented number of individuals stability, but a greater basal area gain (3.64%.year-1) than loss (1.62%.year-1). There were differences among sectors, with a greater loss in bottom sector (2.51%.year-1) than others. There was a weak relation between analyzed environmental variables, suggesting that trees growth is mostly related to non-measured variables. The present study indicates that, two years after the water filling, it is possible to detect the short-term impacts of the reservoir of hydroelectric power station on tree community.

RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar a influência da estruturação espacial e de variáveis ambientais sobre a organização florístico-estrutural do componente arbóreo em uma Floresta Ombrófila Mista Aluvial no sul do Brasil. Para isso, foram alocadas 48 parcelas de 200 m2 no remanescente amostrado, localizado em Lages-SC. Todos os indivíduos dentro das parcelas com diâmetro na altura do peito (DAP) igual ou superior a 5 cm foram identificados. Foram mensuradas variáveis ambientais e espaciais em cada parcela. Os dados foram analisados por meio de Correlograma de Mantel, Particionamento da Variância, Análises de Redundância, análise de Coordenadas Principais de Matrizes Vizinhas e testes de correlação. Foram amostrados 1.462 indivíduos pertencentes a 66 espécies. Conjuntamente, as variáveis ambientais e espaciais explicaram 24,13% da variação total, sendo que a maior parte (15,22%) se encontrou espacialmente estruturada. Dentre as variáveis ambientais, a topografia (desnível máximo) e a fertilidade do solo (soma de bases e P) foram significativas. Conclui-se que o componente arbóreo está organizado na forma de um gradiente florístico-estrutural. Ainda, os resultados sugerem que o regime de inundação do rio e a presença de zonas de maior encharcamento do solo foram relevantes na definição de micro-hábitat, que influenciaram na distribuição das espécies.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the influence of spatial structure and environmental variables on floristic-structural organization of the tree component, in an Alluvial Araucaria Forest, in southern Brazil. To do so, 48 200 m2 sampling units were allocated in the study area, located in the municipality of Lages, SC state. All trees within the sampling units, with diameter at breast height (dbh) equal to or greater than 5 cm were identified. The environmental and spatial variables were measured in each sampling unit. The data were analyzed through Mantel Correlogram, Variation Partitioning, Redundancy Analysis, analysis of Principal Coordinates of Neighbor Matrices and correlation tests. A total of 1,462 individuals, belong to 66 species, were sampled. Together, the environmental and spatial variables explained 24.13% of total variation, with the largest part (15.22%) being spatially structured. The significant environmental variables were topography (maximum elevation difference) and fertility (bases sum and P). It is possible to conclude that the tree component is organized as a floristic-structural gradient. Furthermore, the results suggest that the inundation regime and the presence of flood prone areas were relevant for micro-habitat definitions, that influenced the distribution of species.

RESUMO Objetivou-se verificar as interações entre a configuração espacial da paisagem, a organização florísticoestrutural e as taxas demográficas do componente arbóreo em um sistema de fragmentos e corredores de Floresta com Araucárias em Lages, Santa Catarina. Para isso, foi elaborado um modelo conceitual das possíveis inter-relações, que foi avaliado pela técnica de Modelagem de Equações Estruturais. No ano de 2010, foram obtidas as métricas da paisagem (área, distância do vizinho mais próximo e relação borda e o interior da floresta) e os dados do primeiro inventário florestal. Foram alocadas parcelas permanentes em cinco fragmentos e corredor florestal, onde todos os indivíduos arbóreos com CAP (circunferência a altura do peito, medida a 1,30 do solo) igual ou superior a 15,7 cm foram identificados e mensurados. Em 2014 foi realizado o segundo inventário, com a inclusão de indivíduos recrutas, contagem de mortos e sobreviventes, e foram calculadas as taxas demográficas. Os dados foram analisados por meio da Análise de Componentes Principais (PCA), Análise de Coordenadas Principais (PCoA), Modelagem de Equações Estruturais e Modelos Lineares Generalizados (GLM). Os resultados demonstraram que a estrutura da paisagem (PCA 1) exerceu influência apenas sobre a organização florístico-estrutural do componente arbóreo, indicada pela distribuição preferencial de espécies arbóreas em função da intensidade da fragmentação. Por sua vez, as taxas demográficas (taxas de ganho e perda em área basal e de mortalidade) foram influenciadas por aspectos estruturais da vegetação (abundância e área basal). Conclui-se que existem variações florísticoestruturais associadas à configuração espacial dos fragmentos na paisagem e que as taxas demográficas apresentam relação com o estágio sucessional da floresta, sintetizado pelas variáveis estruturais de área basal e abundância.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to investigate the interactions among the landscape spatial configuration, the floristic-structural organization and demographic rates of the tree component of a system of araucaria forest fragments, in Lages, Santa Catarina state. To do so, we developed a conceptual model of inter-relationship that was evaluated by Structural Equation Modeling. In 2010, the landscape metrics (area, distance from the nearest neighbor and edge-core ratio) and first vegetation inventory data were obtained. Permanent plots were allocated in five forest fragments and forest corridor, where all tree individuals with cbh (circumference at breast height, measured at 1.30 ground) greater than or equal to 15.7 cm were identified and measured. In 2014, the second inventory was conducted, with the inclusion of recruits and counting dead and survivor’s individuals, followed by the determination of demographic rates. The data were analyzed through Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Principal Coordinates Analysis (PCoA), Structural Equation Modelling, and Generalized Linear Models (GLM). The results showed that the landscape structure (PCA 1) had a significant influence only on the floristic-structural organization of the tree component, indicated by the preferential distribution of tree species in response to fragmentation intensity. In turn, the demographic rates (basal area gain and loss rates, and mortality rate) were influenced by structural aspects of vegetation (abundance and basal area). We conclude that there was floristic-structural variation associated to the spatial configuration of fragments in the landscape and that the demographics rates presented relation with forest successional stage, synthetized by structural variables of basal area and abundance.

RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar o potencial regenerativo do componente arbóreo em uma área ecotonal entre Floresta Ombrófila Mista e Estacional Decidual, na região do Alto Uruguai, Santa Catarina. Para isso, foi realizada a caracterização florístico-estrutural do componente arbóreo regenerante em diferentes classes de tamanho e verificada a similaridade florística entre as classes e o componente adulto. Foram consideradas três classes para o componente regenerante: Classe 1, plantas com altura entre 0,2 e 1 m, Classe 2, plantas maiores que 1 m e até 3 m, e Classe 3, plantas maiores que 3 m e com DAP < 5,0 cm. Informações sobre o componente adulto para as mesmas unidades amostrais foram extraídas do banco de dados Laboratório de Dendrologia e Fitossociologia (LABDENDRO), da Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina. Todas as espécies regenerantes foram classificadas em guildas de regeneração (pioneiras, climácicas exigentes em luz e climácicas tolerantes à sombra), a partir de revisão de literatura e observações de campo. Para todo o componente e para cada classe de tamanho, foram calculados os índices de diversidade de Shannon (H’), de equabilidade de Pielou (J) e os Índices de Regeneração Natural por Classe (RNC) e Total (RNT). As similaridades entre os componentes foram obtidas pelo Índice de Sorensen. Foi realizado um teste de qui-quadrado aplicado a uma tabela de contingência para verificar a existência de associação entre a distribuição dos indivíduos pertencentes a espécies de diferentes guildas de regeneração e a classe de tamanho. Foram amostrados 771 indivíduos regenerantes, distribuídos em 51 espécies, cujos valores de H’ e J foram, respectivamente, de 3,06 e 0,77. A espécie com maior RNT foi Nectandra megapotamica (Spreng.) Mez. A similaridade com o componente adulto variou entre 0,46 para a Classe 3 e 0,62 para a Classe 1. Em todas as classes de tamanho ocorreu a predominância de indivíduos de espécies classificadas como clímax exigentes em luz. Conclui-se que as espécies do componente adulto estão representadas, principalmente, na classe de menor tamanho, na qual se encontra a maior parte dos indivíduos amostrados.

ABSTRACT We aimed to evaluate the regenerative potential of the tree component in an ecotonal area between Araucaria and Deciduous forests, in the Upper Uruguay region, Santa Catarina state. For this, a floristicstructural description of the regenerative component was conducted for different size classes and the floristic similarity among classes and adult component was verified. Three classes were considered for the regenerative component: Class 1, plants from 0.2 up to 1 m high, Class 2, plants greater than 1 m up to 3 m high, and Class 3, plants greater than 3 m high, with cbh < 5.0 cm. Information about the adult component for the same sampling units were extract from the database of the Dendrology and Phytosociology Laboratory (LABDENRO), of Santa Catarina State University. All the regenerative species were classified into regeneration guilds (pioneers, light demanding climax, shade tolerant climax), based on literature review and on field observations. For the whole component and for each size class, the Shannon diversity (H’) and Pielou Eveness (J) indexes, and the Class (RNC) and Total (RNT) Natural Regeneration Indexes were determined. The floristic similarities between components were obtained by Sorensen Index. A chi-square applied to a contingency table was conducted to verify the existence of association between the distribution of individuals belonging to different regeneration guilds and size classes. A total of 771 regenerative individuals were sampled, belonging to 52 species, whose H’ and J were, respectively, 3.06 and 0.77. The species with the greatest RNT was Nectandra megapotamica (Spreng.) Mez. The similarity with the adult component varied between 0.46 for Class 3 and 0.62 for Class 1. In all size classes, there was the predominance of individuals of climax light demanding species. We conclude that the adult species component was mostly represented within the smaller plant size class, where the largest proportion of sampled individuals was found.

ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to characterize the floristic-structural heterogeneity of the tree species in an alluvial forest remnant considering three sectors: forest-river edge, forest interior and forest/non-forest matrix edge. Forty-eight plots of 200 m 2 were allocated and all tree individuals with a diameter at breast height (dbh) equal to or greater than 5 cm were measured and identified. Data was analyzed by Shannon’s diversity index, Pielou evenness and phytosociological descriptors. Plots were ordered through NMDS. Sixty-six species were sampled and Myrtaceae was found to be the richest family. Diversity and evenness reached 2.96 and 0.71, respectively. Sebastiania commersoniana (Baill.) L.B.Sm. & Downs presented the highest importance value (21.22%). The NMDS showed that tree components are spatially partitioned according to sectors, therefore indicating floristic-structural heterogeneity.

Resumo Objetivou-se investigar como a heterogeneidade ambiental influencia as variações espaciais dos atributos funcionais e a diversidade funcional do componente arbóreo em uma floresta nebular no sul do Brasil. Foram selecionadas as 19 espécies arbóreas mais abundantes identificadas em um inventário realizado em um fragmento florestal. As variáveis ambientais utilizadas foram obtidas de um trabalho prévio realizado na mesma área. Dessas espécies, foram obtidas a densidade da madeira, área foliar, área foliar específica, altura máxima potencial, deciduidade e síndrome de dispersão. Foram determinados os valores médios dos atributos ponderados para a comunidade e de diversidade funcional. Os dados ambientais foram ordenados por meio de Análise de Componentes Principais e modelos lineares foram ajustados relacionando os Componentes Principais significativos e os valores de atributos funcionais e de diversidade funcional. Enquanto os locais com maior fertilidade do solo favoreceram espécies com estratégias aquisitivas, representadas pela menor densidade da madeira e maior área foliar, e apresentaram maior diversidade funcional; os ambientes menos férteis favoreceram estratégias conservativas, representadas pela maior densidade da madeira e menor área foliar, e apresentaram uma menor diversidade funcional. Conclui-se que a floresta estudada apresentou o particionamento de habitats, em função de variações edáficas, por espécies com estratégias ecológicas distintas.

Abstract We aimed to investigate how the environmental heterogeneity affects the spatial variation of functional diversity and functional traits of a tree community in a cloud forest in the South of Brazil. For this, we selected the 19 most abundant species identified in a forest fragment survey. The study environmental variables were obtained from a previous study conducted in the same area. For each species, we measured the wood density, leaf area, specific leaf area and maximum potential height. We also determined the dispersal syndromes and deciduousness. We determined the community weighted mean for all traits and the functional diversity. The environmental data were ordered by Principal Component Analysis and Linear Models were fitted relating the significant Principal Components and the values of functional traits and of functional diversity. Whereas sites with higher fertility soils favored species with acquisitive strategies (i.e lower wood density and greater leaf area), and showed a higher functional diversity; lower fertility soils sites favored conservative strategies (i.e higher wood density and smaller leaf area), and had a lower functional diversity. We conclude that the studied forest showed habitat partitioning by species with different ecological strategies, in function of edaphic variations.

RESUMO O presente trabalho objetivou avaliar a contaminação biológica ao longo do tempo em uma comunidade arbórea em estágio sucessional avançado/tardio da Floresta Ombrófila Mista Montana, adjacente a um plantio de Pinus taeda L. em Lages - SC. Para isso, foram alocadas 25 parcelas de 20 x 20 m, distribuídas em cinco transeções de cinco parcelas cada, alocadas perpendiculares à borda de contato com o plantio de pinus. Em cada parcela foram mensurados (DAP ≥ 5 cm, medido a 1,30 m do solo), coletados e identificados todos os indivíduos arbóreos vivos. Quatro anos após o primeiro inventário, os mesmos indivíduos foram novamente inventariados, quantificando-se os indivíduos mortos, sobreviventes e adicionando os recrutas. Para os dois períodos foram calculados os descritores fitossociológicos, quantificados os indicadores de invasão para a comunidade como um todo e grupos ecológicos e calculadas as taxas demográficas. No primeiro ano foram amostradas 73 espécies e no segundo 74 espécies, dentro das quais, duas foram exóticas: Pinus taeda e Ligustrum lucidum W.T. Aiton. Ambas tiveram baixos valores dos indicadores de invasão para a comunidade nos dois anos, no entanto, com aumento da participação de Pinus taeda entre as espécies pioneiras ao longo do tempo. Os resultados das taxas demográficas sugerem que, para os diferentes grupos ecológicos, o processo de invasão encontra-se em fases distintas. Conclui-se que o grupo das espécies pioneiras foi o componente mais afetado pela invasão biológica, o que reforça a necessidade de análise, considerando os diferentes grupos ecológicos.

ABSTRACT The present study aimed to evaluate the biological contamination over time in a tree community of Montane Araucaria forest, in advanced successional stage, adjacent to a Pinus taeda L. plantation, in Lages, SC state. For this sake, a total of, 20 x 20m, 25 plots, distributed in five transects with five plots each, were allocated perpendicular to the edge in contact with the pinus plantation. In each plot, all living trees were measured (cbh ≥ 5 cm, measured at 1.30 m above soil level), collected and identified. Four years after the first inventory, the same individuals were re-inventoried, the dead individuals and survivor quantified and recruits added. For the two evaluated years, phytosociological descriptors were calculated, indicators of biological invasion quantified for all community as well as for ecological groups and the demographic rates determined. A total of 73 and 74 species were sampled in the first and second years, among of them two exotic species: Pinus taeda and Ligustrum lucidum W.T. Aiton. Both species showed low values of the invasion indicators, but with an increment in the participation of Pinus taeda among pioneer species over time. Results of demographic rates suggest that, for different ecological groups, the invasion process is in distinct stages. We conclude that the pioneer species was the most affected component by biological invasion, which reinforces the need for analysis considering the different ecological groups.

RESUMO O objetivo do presente trabalho foi compreender a dinâmica de um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista Alto-Montana, no município de Painel, em Santa Catarina, onde perturbações de baixa intensidade, porém crônicas, tais como pastoreio extensivo e exploração de produtos não-madeireiros, são práticas comuns. Em 2008, foram instaladas parcelas permanentes, onde foram mensurados todos os indivíduos arbóreos com circunferência a altura do peito (CAP) igual ou superior a 15,7 cm. Em 2014, foi realizado o segundo inventário da comunidade arbórea, adotando-se a mesma metodologia. Foram calculadas as taxas de mortalidade, recrutamento e ganho e perda em área basal. Os indivíduos inventariados foram classificados em guildas de regeneração e foram realizados testes de proporção a fim de verificar a associação entre os padrões de dinâmica e as guildas. Para a comunidade, as taxas médias de mortalidade e recrutamento foram de 2,3%.ano-1 e 2,2%.ano-1, respectivamente, e as taxas médias de ganho e perda em área basal foram de 3,0%.ano-e 1,8%.ano-1, respectivamente. Ocorreu a redução de espécies, passando de 55 para 48. As guildas de regeneração apresentaram diferentes padrões de dinâmica, com as pioneiras com maior proporção de mortalidade (19,9%) e recrutamento (15,6%) e com redução da representatividade do grupo de clímax tolerante à sombra. Desta forma, observou-se um empobrecimento florístico e maior redução na representatividade de espécies tardias. Conclui-se que na área de estudo, apesar das perturbações não resultarem em uma degradação estrutural, essas têm o potencial de retardar o processo de sucessão e causar uma homogeneização florística.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to understand the dynamics of an Upper Montane Mixed Ombrophilous Forest in the municipality of Painel, Santa Catarina, Brazil, where low-level but chronic disturbances, such as extensive cattle grazing and exploitation of non-timber products, are common practices. In 2008, permanent plots were allocated and all tree species with circumference at breast height (CBH) equal to or greater than 15.7 cm were measured. A second survey was conducted in 2014 by the same methodology. Mortality, recruitment, and basal area gain and loss rates were then determined. The tree species were classified into regeneration guilds and proportion tests were conducted to verify the associations between dynamics patterns and guilds. The community has shown a 2.3%.year-1 average mortality rate, a 2.2%.year-1 average recruitment rate, a 3.0%.year-1 average basal area gain rate and a 1.8%.year-1 average basal area loss rate. Species number has decreased from 55 to 48. Regeneration guilds have shown different dynamics patterns, where the pioneers have shown the greatest mortality (19.9%) and recruitment (15.6%) proportion and reduced representativeness in shade-tolerant climax species. Therefore, floristic impoverishment and higher representativeness reduction of late species have been observed. We have concluded that despite disturbances do not result in structural deterioration, they have the potential to slow the succession process and cause a floristic homogenization in the area under study.

RESUMO O estudo foi realizado em uma área ecotonal entre Floresta Ombrófila Mista e Floresta Estacional Decidual em Santa Catarina, objetivando identificar o impacto do enchimento do reservatório da UHE Garibaldi na mortalidade e composição florístico-estrutural da floresta ciliar adjacente às margens do lago. Um ano após o enchimento do reservatório, foram alocadas 48 parcelas de 200 m2 cada, de forma estratificada- sistemática, em três setores do fragmento: adjacente às margens do reservatório, meio da encosta e topo da encosta. Os indivíduos arbóreos nas parcelas com circunferência a altura do peito (CAP) e” 15,7 cm foram identificados e mensurados (CAP), sendo os mortos quantificados. Foram obtidas as coordenadas geográficas de cada parcela. A diversidade foi analisada pelos índices de Shannon e Pielou. A organização florística-estrutural foi avaliada pelas estimativas fitossociológicas, Escalonamento Multidimensional Não- Métrico (NMDS) e teste de Mantel. As variações da mortalidade e da organização florística-estrutural em função dos setores ambientais foi testada por Modelos Lineares Generalizados (GLMs). Na comunidade foram encontradas 70 espécies, com os valores dos índices de Shannon e Pielou, respectivamente, de 3,10 e 0,73. Os indivíduos mortos obtiveram o segundo maior valor de importância (9,59%), com maior mortalidade no setor inferior (p < 0,05), o que pode estar associada à maior proximidade com a lâmina d’água. Houve estruturação espacial na organização da comunidade, porém, a NMDS e modelos GLMs não indicaram diferenciação florístico-estrutural entre os setores, provavelmente devido ao curto período de exposição aos impactos do enchimento do reservatório.

ABSTRACT This study was conducted in an ecotonal area between the Mixed Ombrophilous Forest (MOF) and the Deciduous Seasonal Forest (DSF) in Santa Catarina, Brazil, to identify the impact of the water reservoir of the Garibaldi hydroelectric power plant on the mortality and floristic-structural composition of the tree component in a riparian forest adjacent to it. One year after the reservoir water filling, 48 200 m2 plots were systematically allocated in three sectors: adjacent to the water reservoir, intermediate slope and upper slope. The tree species individuals with circumference at breast height (CBH) > 15.7 cm were identified and measured (CBH); dead individuals were quantified. The geographic coordinates of each plot were obtained. Species diversity was analyzed by Shannon and Pielou indexes and the floristic-structural organization was evaluated through phytosociological estimates, Non-Metric Multidimensional Scaling (NMDS) and Mantel test. Variations on mortality and floristic-structural organization regarding environmental sectors were tested with Generalized Linear Models (GLMs). 70 species have been found in the community with Shannon and Pielou values of 3.10 and 0.73, respectively. Dead individuals have shown the second highest importance value (9.59%) with the highest mortality in the lower sector (p < 0.05), which may be associated with its proximity to the water surface. The community organization has shown spatial structure; however, the NMDS and GLMs have shown no floristic-structural differentiation among sectors, probably on account of the short period of exposure to reservoir filling impacts.

RESUMO O objetivo do estudo foi inventariar a regeneração natural arbórea de um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista Aluvial no Planalto Sul Catarinense, avaliar a dissimilaridade entre o estrato regenerante e adulto do mesmo fragmento e verificar o compartilhamento florístico da regeneração natural entre fragmentos na região. Os regenerantes foram amostrados em 48 parcelas, sendo estes identificados e classificados de acordo com a altura em: Classe 1, plantas com altura entre 15 cm e 1 m; Classe 2, plantas com altura entre 1 e 3 m; e, Classe 3, plantas com altura maior que 3 m e DAP (diâmetro à altura do peito) menor que 5 cm. A composição dos indivíduos adultos da área e de regenerantes de outros fragmentos foi obtida do banco de dados do Laboratório de Dendrologia do CAV/UDESC. A estrutura do componente regenerativo foi avaliada por meio de descritores fitossociológicos. A dissimilaridade entre o componente regenerante e adulto foi determinada por meio das distâncias de Jaccard, Sorensen e Bray-Curtis. A análise do compartilhamento florístico da regeneração de diferentes áreas foi realizada por meio de um dendrograma. Foram amostrados 818 indivíduos pertencentes a 59 espécies, sendo Allophylus edulis (A.St.-Hil. et al.) Hieron. ex Niederl. a espécie de maior importância relativa. A dissimilaridade entre os regenerantes e adultos foi baixa (0,24 a 0,43), sugerindo que existe baixa substituição florístico-estrutural entre os componentes. A área estudada apresentou maior vínculo florístico (<40% de dissimilaridade) com outros fragmentos espacialmente próximos, sugerindo que altitude e temperatura representam importantes fatores ecológicos na compartimentalização fitogeográfica deste componente.

ABSTRACT This study aimed at inventorying the natural regeneration of tree species in an Alluvial Araucaria Forest in the "Planalto Sul Catarinense" region, SC, Brazil; evaluating the dissimilarity between its adult and regenerative components; and verifying the natural regeneration floristic sharing among its different fragments. The regenerative component has been sampled and identified within 48 plots and classified according to the following height classes: Class 1, plants with height varying from 15 cm up to 1 m; Class 2, plants with height varying from 1 and 3 m; and Class 3, plants with height higher than 3 m and DBH (diameter at breast height) smaller than 5 cm. The floristic composition of adult individuals in the area and of regenerative individuals from other fragments has been obtained from the database of the Laboratory of Dendrology of CAV/UDESC. The structure of the regeneration was evaluated by phytosociological descriptors. Dissimilarity between the adult and the regenerative components has been determined by Jaccard, Sorensen and Bray-Curtis distances. The regeneration floristic sharing analysis of different areas was conducted by a dendrogram. A total of 818 individuals belonging to 59 species have been sampled, being Allophylus edulis (A.St.-Hil. et al.) Hieron. ex Niederl. the species with the greatest relative importance. Elevated similarity between the regenerative and adult components have been observed (from 0.24 to 0.43), suggesting a low floristic-structural turnover between components. The area under study have shown a greater floristic connection (<40% of dissimilarity) with other spatially close fragments, indicating that altitude and temperature are important ecological factors for its phyto-geographic compartmentalization.

RESUMO O presente estudo objetivou verificar a relação entre a organização da comunidade arbórea e variáveis ambientais em um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista. Para isso, na localidade da Coxilha Rica, no planalto sul catarinense, foram alocadas 50 parcelas de 200 m2 em um fragmento florestal, no qual foram amostrados, medidos (circunferência a altura peito, CAP) e identificados todos os indivíduos arbóreos vivos que apresentaram CAP igual ou superior a 15,7 cm. Em cada parcela, foram obtidas as variáveis ambientais: topografia, cobertura do dossel e características químicas e físicas dos solos. Foram calculados os estimadores fitossociológicos e ordenadas as parcelas em função da abundância das espécies, por meio da análise NMDS (Nonmetric multidimensional scalling ). Em seguida, foi realizado ajuste entre a ordenação produzida e as variáveis ambientais, com as variáveis significativas (p ≤ 0,01) plotadas na forma de vetores. Foram amostrados 1.447 indivíduos, distribuídos em 69 espécies. Myrcia guianensis (Aubl.) DC. foi a espécie de maior valor de importância (VI=10,43%). Nas áreas com terreno mais declivoso, com maiores cotas altimétricas médias e com solos menos férteis, com maiores teores de MO, Al e Na, destacou-se a presença, entre outras espécies, de Drimys brasiliensis Miers. Nas áreas com o terreno mais plano e solos com maior fertilidade e menores teores de MO, Al e Na, foi comum Sebastiania commersoniana (Baill.) L.B. Sm. & Downs. Conclui-se que a topografia e as características químicas dos solos foram determinantes para a heterogeneidade florístico-estrutural no fragmento estudado.

ABSTRACT The present study aimed to verify the relationships between tree species organization and environmental variables in a fragment of Araucaria Forest. To do so, in the locality of Coxilha Rica, in the region called "Planalto Sul Catarinense" region, a total of 50 plots of 200 m2 were allocated in a forest fragment, where all living trees with CAP (circumference at breast height, measured at 1.30 m above ground) greater than or equal to 15.7 cm were sampled, measured and identified. Environmental variables related to the terrain, canopy cover and soil chemical and physical properties were obtained for each plot. Phytosociological estimators were calculated and the plots ordinated in function of species abundance by NMDS analyze (Nonmetric multidimensional scalling ). Then, the environmental variables were fitted to the produced ordination, being those significant variables (p ≤ 0.01) plotted as vectors. A total of 1,447 individuals, distributed in 69 species were sampled. Myrcia guianensis (Aubl.) DC. was the most relative important species (10.43% of IV). Drimys brasiliensis Miers stood out in steeper areas, with higher elevation and with less fertile soils, with greater values of OM, Al and Na. Sebastiania commersoniana (Baill.) LB Sm & Downs and others stood out in flat areas, with more fertile soils and low content of OM, Al and Na. We concluded that terrain and soil chemical properties represent an important source of floristic-structural heterogeneity in the study fragment.
