Abstract The object of this study was to investigate the influence of bagging or the combination of umbrella and bags on berry composition, especially anthocyanin accumulation, in ‘Kyoho’ (V. labruscana) berry skins. Five different colors and bag materials commonly used in production were chosen for this study: white, green, yellow, nonwoven and transparent, and the umbrellas were made of plastic material. The composition and content of anthocyanins in the berry skin of ‘Kyoho’ were analyzed by HPLC-MS. The results showed that bagging or a combination of umbrella and bags on anthocyanin concentration in ‘Kyoho’ grapes showed inconsistent effects that depended on the colors and materials of the bags and the use of an umbrella or not. Compared with the control, the inhibition effects of white, green and yellow bags on the soluble solids content and the total and individual anthocyanin concentrations in ‘Kyoho’ grapes reached significant levels; effects of green and yellow bags were the most significant among them. The plastic umbrella used in this study also presented a lower relative light intensity and produced more even-colored clusters. White, green, and yellow bags and combinations of umbrella and bags significantly increased some stable anthocyanin proportions to varying degrees, such as coumaroylated and methylated anthocyanins, compared to the control.

ABSTRACT This study was designed to explore the pharmacokinetic regularity of the plasma concentration, tissue distribution and excretion of orcinol glucoside from aqueous extracts of raw and processed Curculigo orchioides Gaertn., Hypoxidaceae. The experiment first used an ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry approach with multiple reaction monitoring and a positive mode to separate orcinol glucoside from naringin to obtain the plasma concentration curves, bar graph of tissue distribution and excretion curves. These results might be beneficial for reasonable clinical application of C. orchioides and for further development of its wine and salt-processing mechanism.

Abstract The anthocyanin profiles and CIELAB color values of nine wines in Vitis germplasms from southern China were compared. The results showed that the anthocyanin composition of wines from one hybrid between V. vinifera and V. labrusca (‘Moldova’), two V. labrusca varieties (‘Conquistador’ and ‘Saint-Croix’), one V. quinquangularis variety (‘Yeniang No.2’), one hybrid between V. quinquangularis and V. vinifera (‘NW196’), one V. davidii variety (‘Xiangniang No.1’) and one V. rotundifolia variety (‘Noble’) were dominated by anthocyanidin 3,5-O-diglucosides. All these were quite different from V. vinifera wines (‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ and ‘Marselan’), which were characterized by the monoglucoside and pyranoanthocyanins. 3',4',5'-substituted anthocyanins were dominant in the wines of all varieties, except ‘Noble’ wine. ‘Yeniang No.2’ (V. quinquangularis) had the highest acid, total anthocyanin concentration, and showed a more intense pigmentation with a higher proportion and concentration of coumaroylated anthocyanins. In the colorimetric analysis, ‘Yeniang No.2’ (V. quinquangularis) wine showed the most saturated red colors, followed by ‘NW196’ (V. quinquangularis). The detected chromatic characteristics of these wines were basically in accordance with their sensory evaluation.

The aroma characteristics of wines from four Vitis vinifera grape varieties (‘Cabernet sauvignon’, ‘Merlot’, ‘Chardonnay’, and ‘Italian Riesling’) grown in three shoot positions were evaluated by HS-SPME-GC/MS. In this study, the numerous significant differences found in most of the aromatic compounds influence of different shoot positions on the quality of wine. The results showed that the middle shoot position increased significantly the aroma concentration in the majority of wines investigated. The volatile components showing the greatest differences in the wines of different cultivars were aldehydes and terpenes. 8 and 11 compounds were found and quantified (OAVs>1) in the two red wines and white wines at concentrations higher than their corresponding odor thresholds, respectively; and therefore they significantly contributed to the wine aromas. According to their OAVs, fruity, floral, cheese and fatty aroma strongly influenced the characteristics of the four monovarietal wines, while the two white wines showed the green and fresh aroma characteristics. These results are related to the different microclimate of the canopies of the different shoot positions and varieties. They suggest that proper elevating the fruiting zones could improve the accumulation of aroma compounds in wines from the different varieties. On the other hand, grapevines trained to systems with uniform fruiting zones could improve the quality of wine.

The corridor area of Gansu Province is one of the most important wine grape growing regions in China, and this strip of land results in a significant difference in terms of terroir between its regions. Chemical composition and antioxidant capacity of the main wine grape varieties (Vitis vinifera L.) cultivated in the corridor area of Gansu Province in northwest China were compared. Three regions (Zhangye, Wuwei, and Jiayuguan) were selected to explain the influence of soil and climate conditions on the quality of wine grapes. This study aims to investigate the effect of different regions on berry composition and antioxidant capacity, providing a general evaluation of red and white wine grapes quality in the corridor area of China. The results showed that ‘Merlot’ grapes grown in Zhangye had the best quality among the different varieties in the three regions of Gansu evaluated. The moderate temperature and nitrogen deficiency were associated with improved fruit quality. It was identified that the most suitable grape variety from Zhangye is ‘Merlot’, and that ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ and ‘Italian Resling’ are the most suitable varieties from Wuwei and Jiayuguan, respectively.

A pair of new dioxomolybdenum(VI) complexes, [MoO2L¹(MeOH)HMoO2L¹(EtOH)] (1) and [MoO2L²(MeOH)HMoO2L²(EtOH)] (2), where L¹ and L² are the dianionic forms of N'-(2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)-2-hydroxy-3-methylbenzohydrazide and N'-(3-ethoxy-2-hydroxybenzylidene)-2-hydroxy-3-methylbenzohydrazide, respectively, have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectra, and single crystal X-ray determination. The crystal of (1) is triclinic: space group P-1, a = 8.106(2), b = 13.412(3), c = 18.045(3) Å, α = 83.634(2), β = 84.809(2), γ = 87.746(2)°, V = 1941.0(7) ų, Z = 2, R1 = 0.0382, wR2 = 0.0919. The crystal of (2) is triclinic: space group P-1, a = 7.350(2), b = 11.292(3), c = 24.914(3) Å, α = 85.213(2), β = 82.411(2), γ = 71.012(2)°, V = 1936.1(7) ų, Z = 2, R1 = 0.0425, wR2 = 0.0877. The Mo atoms in the complexes are coordinated by one phenolate O, one imine N and one enolic O atoms of the benzohydrazone ligand, two oxo O atoms, and one solvate O atom, forming octahedral coordination. In the crystal structures, adjacent two complex molecules are linked by methanol and ethanol ligands through intermolecular O-H-O hydrogen bonds, forming dimers. The catalytic property of sulfoxidation for the complexes was studied.
