ABSTRACT The objective of this study is to evaluate the damage caused by Acromyrmex heyeri Forel, 1899 and Acromyrmex lobicornis Emery, 1887 to Pinus taeda L. seedlings during the first two months after replanting. The experiment was conducted in the company Bosques del Plata, located in the province of Corrientes, Argentina. The evaluations were carried out at seven, 14, 21, 36, 50 and 65 days after replanting the seedlings, when the number of dead, alive, non-attacked, alive deneedled, and alive deneedled with cuts/damage to the apical bud by leaf-cutting ants was quantified. The results allow us to conclude that A. heyeri and A. lobicornis are responsible for losses to the order of 20.8% of the seedlings in an initial P. taeda stand at 65 days. The damage caused to seedlings by the two leaf-cutting ant species is constant over time, in which A. lobicornis is more voracious than A. heyeri.

RESUMO Neste trabalho são listadas as espécies de formigas de serrapilheira encontradas em quatro ambientes localizados na região noroeste do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, a fim de verificar o impacto da ação antrópica realizada no meio rural. Para a coleta das formigas da serrapilheira foi utilizado o método do extrator de Winkler. Foram coletados 6.300 espécimes pertencentes a oito subfamílias, 18 tribos, 31 gêneros e 108 espécies. A floresta nativa possui a maior riqueza observada com 90 espécies coletadas, seguida por eucalipto com 65 espécies, agricultura e pastagem exótica com 20 espécies cada. O índice de diversidade de Margalef foi de 11,21 para área com floresta nativa, 8,37 para eucalipto, 3,48 para agricultura e, 2,71 na área de pastagem exótica. O índice de diversidade de Shannon obtido foi de 2,89; 3,15; 2,43 e 1,98 e de equitabilidade 0,64; 0,75; 0,84 e 0,66 para as áreas com: floresta nativa, eucalipto, agricultura e pastagem, respectivamente. O maior valor do índice de diversidade para a área de eucalipto pode ser devido à área possuir 28 anos de implantação, sem ter sido manejada, com sub-bosque de espécies nativas, formando um dossel contínuo e espessa camada de serrapilheira, já a floresta nativa por sofrer intervenções antrópicas, possui um valor de diversidade de Shannon menor comparado à área com eucalipto.

ABSTRACT Litter ant species found in four sites located in northwestern Rio Grande do Sul state were listed in this study to verify the impact of human activities conducted in rural areas. The method used for the collection of litter ants was the Winkler extractor. There were collected 6,300 specimens belonging to eight subfamilies, 18 tribes, 31 genera and 108 species. Native forest presented the highest richness observed with 90 species collected, followed by 65 eucalyptus species, and agriculture and pasture with 20 exotic species each. Margalef's diversity index was 11.21 for area with native forest, 8.37 for eucalypt, 3.48 for agriculture, and 2.71 in exotic pasture area. The Shannon's diversity indices obtained were 2.89, 3.15, 2.43 and 1.98 and equitability indices of 0.64, 0.75, 0.84 and 0.66 for areas with native forest, eucalyptus, agriculture and exotic pasture, respectively. The highest diversity index for the eucalypt area may be due to the age of the forest (28 years) and the fact that it has not been managed as well as due to the presence of understory of native species, forming a continuous canopy and thick litter layer. On the other hand, since the native forest has suffered human interventions, it has a lower Shannon's diversity index compared to the eucalypt area.

O presente trabalho objetivou registrar a ocorrência de novas espécies de formigas para o estado do Rio Grande do Sul e, com isso, contribuir para o conhecimento sobre a mirmecofauna. As coletas foram realizadas em quatro ambientes (floresta nativa, plantio de eucalipto, plantio agrícola e pastagem exótica). Para a coleta das formigas, foi utilizado o método do extrator de mini-Winkler, cujo processo consistiu em retirar 1m² de serapilheira, peneirá-la e acondicioná-la em extratores de mini-Winkler para a obtenção da fauna. Foram coletadas 108 espécies, representantes de 31 gêneros, 18 tribos e oito subfamílias. Destas, a floresta nativa, apresentou 90 espécies coletadas, seguida pelo plantio de eucalipto, com 65 espécies, pelo plantio agrícola e pela pastagem exótica, com 20 espécies cada. Neste trabalho, é feito o primeiro registro de ocorrência de Dorymyrmex thoracicus (Dolichoderinae), Camponotus arboreus, Camponotus melanoticus (Formicinae), Apterostigma madidiense, Apterostigma sp. complexo pilosum, Cyphomyrmex major, Cyphomyrmex vorticis, Wasmannia rochai, Cephalotes pusillus, Strumigenys (Pyramica) rugithorax, Strumigenys cosmotela, Strumigenys silvestrii, Pheidole aper, Pheidole heyeri, Pheidole rugatula, Pheidole siggilata, Pheidole senilis, Pheidole sospes, Megalomyrmex pusillus (Myrmicinae) e Pachycondyla ferruginea (Ponerinae) para o Rio Grande do Sul.

This study aimed to report the registration of new ant species in Rio Grande do Sul state and thus to contribute to the knowledge about the ant fauna (Myrmecofauna). Collections were made in four different environments, namely, native forest, eucalyptus plantations, agricultural plantation and exotic pasture. We used the mini-Winkler method of extraction to collect the ants. We removed 1 square meter (1m²) of litter, sifted it and packed it in mini-Winkler extractors to obtain the fauna. We collected 108 species, which represent 31 genera, 18 tribes and 8 subfamilies. The native forest presented 90 collected species, the eucalyptus plantation presented 65 species, and the agricultural plantation and the exotic pasture presented 20 species each. We have registered for the first time the following species in the state of Rio Grande do Sul: Dorymyrmex thoracicus (Dolichoderinae), Camponotus arboreus, Camponotus melanoticus (Formicinae), Apterostigma madidiense, Apterostigma sp. pilosum complex, Cyphomyrmex major, Cyphomyrmex vorticis, Wasmannia rochai, Cephalotes pusillus, Strumigenys (Pyramica) rugithorax, Strumigenys cosmotela, Strumigenys silvestrii, Pheidole aper, Pheidole heyeri, Pheidole rugatula, Pheidole siggilata, Pheidole senilis, Pheidole sospes, Megalomyrmex pusillus (Myrmicinae), and Pachycondyla ferruginea (Ponerinae).

RESUMO No presente trabalho se estudou a fenologia e morfologia, como também foram realizados testes físicos e fisiológicos com sementes de Cordia trichotoma (Vell.) Arráb. ex Steud (louro-pardo). A coleta do material botânico e as observações fenológicas foram realizadas em cinco árvores matrizes, localizadas no Município de Frederico Westphalen, Rio Grande do Sul, de março de 2007 a março de 2010. O trabalho foi conduzido em condições de laboratório e viveiro, na Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul. Durante os três anos, a floração teve maior intensidade de março a abril e a frutificação, de maio a junho. A espécie possui inflorescência cimosa, paniculada, constituída de pequenas flores de coloração branca, hermafroditas. O fruto é simples, drupáceo, encerrado pelo tubo da corola e pelo cálice persistente. A semente, de formato cilíndrico, elipsoidal, de coloração castanha, exalbuminosa, com embrião cotiledonar, basal, invaginado e cotilédones plicados, presos em torno do eixo hipocótilo radicular. A germinação é epígea e a plântula fanerocotiledonar. As sementes são recalcitrantes e o número médio por quilograma foi de 24.591, a umidade das sementes 51 %, a germinação 40 % e a emergência 29 %. O índice germinativo é oscilante comparando os resultados deste trabalho a outros, provavelmente devido à qualidade das sementes, variável em função de cada árvore matriz e seu micro-habitat. Portanto, há importância em selecionar indivíduos, observando características que trarão representação genética e fisiológica da espécie, aumentando, assim, a homogeneidade do lote de sementes.

ABSTRACT On this paper, the phenology and morphology as well as physical and physiological tests were carried out with seeds of Cordia trichotoma (Vell.) Arráb. ex Steud. The collection of botanical material and phenological observations were performed on five selected trees located in Frederico Westphalen, Rio Grande do Sul state, from March 2007 to March 2010. The work was conducted under laboratory and greenhouse conditions at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul state. For three years, the bloom was most intense from March to April and the fruiting from May to June. The species has inflorescence, paniculate, consisting of small white colored and hermaphrodite flowers. The fruit is simple, drupaceous, terminated by the corolla tube and by the persistent calyx. The seed is cylindrical, ellipsoidal, pale brown exalbuminous, cotyledonary embryo with baseline, and invaginated plicate cotyledons, trapped around the root hypocotyl axis. The germination is epigeal and the seedling phanerocotyledonal. Seeds are recalcitrant and the average number was 24,591 per kilogram, the seed moisture content was 51 %, the germination was 40 % and the emergence was 29 %. The germination index is oscillating comparing the results of this paper to others, probably due to seed quality, which varies according to each parent tree and its micro-habitat. Therefore, there is importance in the selection of individuals, noticing the features that will bring genetic and physiological representation of the species, thus increasing the homogeneity of the seed lot.

RESUMO Com o objetivo de agregar conhecimentos em relação à Apuleia leiocarpa (Vogel) J. F. Macbr., analisou-se sua época de floração e frutificação, a morfologia de frutos, sementes, germinação, plântula e muda, como também características físicas, germinação e emergência de sementes de diferentes árvores matrizes. A partir da seleção de 20 árvores matrizes, foram realizadas observações mensalmente, a fim de averiguar a presença de flores e frutos. Após a maturação dos frutos, estes foram coletados, suas sementes extraídas, beneficiadas e separadas por matriz, de onde foram retiradas amostras para determinação do peso, teor de água, testes germinativos e de emergência em condições de laboratório e viveiro. Exemplares de frutos e sementes foram armazenados em álcool 70 %, para posterior descrição morfológica. A maior presença de flores de grápia ocorreu de setembro a outubro e de frutos, de janeiro a março, havendo variações em relação à época e à frequência de árvores matrizes nas fenofases, assim como a quantidade estimada de frutos e sementes presentes em cada ano. Morfologicamente, o fruto é simples, vagem seca e indeiscente, com 1 a 2 sementes cada, sendo estas de coloração castanha, com cicatriz linear visível, rafe pouco desenvolvida e micrópila próxima ao hilo. Internamente, a semente é albuminosa, com embrião axial, espatulado, ocupando 3/4 da região interna, com cotilédones foliáceos e grandes. A germinação é epígea e a plântula fanerocotiledonar. O comprimento dos frutos variou de 1,45 a 3,01 cm, a largura de 1,20 a 2,07 cm e a espessura de 0,20 a 0,30 cm. Para as sementes, 1,2 a 2,1 cm de comprimento, 0,6 a 0,95 cm de largura e 0,1 a 0,2 cm de espessura. Houve diferenças entre árvores matrizes para os testes físicos e fisiológicos, onde o número de sementes por quilograma variou de 8.713 a 11.197, o grau de umidade de 12,43 a 27,97 %, a germinação de 13 a 96 % e a emergência de 26 a 88 %. Concluiu-se que sementes provenientes de indivíduos de uma mesma população possuem variações expressivas quanto às características físicas e fisiológicas, seja em função do ambiente, fator genético ou do micro-habitat. Assim, apesar de proporcionar melhor representatividade genética, reduzem a homogeneidade do lote de sementes.

ABSTRACT In order to add knowledge regarding to Apuleia leiocarpa (Vogel) J. F. Macbr., it was analyzed its time of flowering and fruiting, fruit morphology, seed germination, seedling and changes, as well as its physical characteristics, germination and emergence of seeds of different trees. From the selection of 20 mother trees, observations were made monthly in order to ascertain the presence of flowers and fruits. After maturation, the fruits were collected, the seeds extracted from fruits, processed and separated by matrix, from which samples were taken for the determination of weight, moisture content, germination tests and emergency conditions in laboratory and nursery. Copies of fruits and seeds were stored in 70 % ethanol for the later morphological description. The greater presence of Apuleia leiocarpa flowers occurred from September to October and fruits from January to March, with a variation in the time and frequency of mother trees in both clones as well as the estimated amount of fruits and seeds in each year. Morphologically, the fruit is simple, indehiscent pod and dry, with 1-2 seeds, which are brown in color with visible linear scar, micropyle and raphe undeveloped near the hilum. Internally, the seed is albuminous, with axial embryo, spatulate, occupying three quarters of the inner region, with large and foliaceous cotyledons. The germination is epigeal and the seedling phanerocotyledonal. The fruit length ranged from 1.45 to 3.01 cm, width from 1.20 to 2.07 cm and thickness from 0.20 to 0.30 cm. For the seeds, 1.2 to 2.1 cm long, 0.6 to 0.95 cm wide and 0.1 to 0.2 cm thick. There were differences between the parent trees for the physical and physiological tests, where the number of seeds per kilogram ranged from 8,713 to 11,197, the moisture content from 12.43 to 27. 97 % germination 13 to 96 % and the emergengc from 26 to 88 %. It was concluded that seeds from individuals of the same population have significant physical and physiological variations, either because of environmental or genetic factors or due to the micro habitat. Thus, although providing better genetic representation, they reduce the homogeneity of the seed lots.

RESUMO O presente estudo foi realizado em Frederico Westphalen, no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, com a instalação de 10 parcelas de 20x50 m. Em cada parcela foram levantadas todas as plantas com diâmetro a altura do peito (DAP) ≥ 5 cm, totalizando 1.461 indivíduos amostrados no hectare. A florística da área inclui 79 espécies distribuídas em 31 famílias e 69 gêneros. A família Fabaceae, com 14 espécies, foi a mais diversa, seguido por Myrtaceae (8), Meliaceae (6), Euphorbiaceae (5), Sapindaceae (5), Rutaceae (4) e Salicaceae (4). As espécies com maior valor de importância (VI) foram Gymnanthes concolor, Nectandra megapotamica, Trichilia claussenii e Chrysophyllum marginatum. Os índices de diversidade de Shannon e equabilidade de Pielou foram respectivamente 3,49 nats. ind.-1 e 0,79. Na análise de agrupamento de Twinspan foi contatado pela florística três subformações no fragmento, e destas, uma foi fisionomicamente distinta pelo estrato inferior, com o predomínio de espécies arborescentes (xaxim), enquanto as demais foram caracterizadas por espécies arbóreas, sendo as espécies, Trichilia claussenii e Gymnanthes concolor, as responsáveis pelo grande grupo fisionômico, que caracterizou a sucessão florestal em secundária avançada.

ABSTRACT For the current study, 10 plots measuring 20x50 meters were created in the city of Frederico Westphalen, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. All plants within these plots with a diameter at breast height (DBH) of ≥ 5 cm were identified, resulting in a total of 1,461 plants per hectare. The floristic composition revealed 79 species belonging to 31 families and 69 genera. The Fabaceae was the richest family in this study, having 14 species. Other families which presented a great number of species were the Myrtaceae (8), Meliaceae (6), Euphorbiaceae (5), Sapindaceae (5), Rutaceae (4) and Salicaceae (4). The species with the greatest importance values (IV) were the Gymnanthes concolor, Nectandra megapotamica, Trichilia claussenii and Chrysophyllum marginatum. The Shannon Diversity index and the Pielou Equability index were 3.49 nats. ind.-1 and 0.79, respectively. A Twinspan classification analysis indicated three floristic subgroups in the forest patch. From these three groups, one was physionomically distinct because of its lower canopy and the predominance of tree fern species. The other two ones were characterized by tree species such as the Trichilia claussenii and Gymnanthes concolor, which are responsible for the large physiognomic group that characterized advanced secondary succession forests.

RESUMO O estudo do crescimento e desenvolvimento de plantas em diferentes ambientes oferece respostas sobre as melhores condições para as espécies serem cultivadas. Objetivou-se avaliar o crescimento inicial até 80 dias em mudas de Schizolobium parahyba (guapuruvu) submetidas aos níveis de sombreamento: 0% (pleno sol), 30, 50 e 70%. Os resultados demonstram que o sombreamento interferiu positivamente no crescimento em altura das mudas, apresentando tendência nos maiores níveis, não causando danos às plantas, fato comprovado pela não diferença das variáveis: matéria seca, diâmetro de colo e número de pares de folhas. É favorável a produção de mudas com qualidade até o 45o dia de submissão ao sombreamento, devendo ser transplantadas após esse período.

ABSTRACT The study of the growth and development of a plant under different environmental conditions offers the researcher a good clue as to which are the best conditions to grow a particular species. The main objective was to evaluate the initial growth, for up to 80 days, for of Schizolobium parahyba (guapuruvu) seedlings submitted to the shading levels: 0% (full sunshine), 30%, 50% and 70% shading. The results demonstrate that the shading interfered positively in the growth in height of the seedlings, even at the greatest levels, and did not cause damage to the plants, which was proven by the lack of differences in the variables: dry matter, lap diameter and number of pairs of leaves. The production of quality seedlings is favorable up to the 45th day of submission to shading, after which seedlings should be transplanted.

RESUMO Neste trabalho, o objetivo foi quantificar as perdas no desenvolvimento inicial em diâmetro, altura e índice de produtividade de mudas de Pinus taeda em plantios na Argentina, após o ataque de formigas cortadeiras. Os tratamentos foram: T1 = testemunha sem ataque; T2 = atacada por formigas; e T3 = desaciculamento artificial seqüencial. Avaliaram-se ainda três estágios de desenvolvimento das plantas em dois tipos de relevos distintos. Os resultados obtidos permitem concluir que existe redução significativa no desenvolvimento das plantas de Pinus taeda quando atacadas por formigas cortadeiras durante os primeiros 24 meses de idade. Nas plantas desaciculadas artificialmente, houve uma redução mais significativa em relação às desaciculadas por formigas, para todas as variáveis analisadas.

ABSTRACT In this study, the main purpose was to quantify the diameter, height and productivity index losses in initial development in Pinus taeda seedlings in stands in Argentine, after leaf cutting ants attack. The treatments were: T1 = control without attack; T2 = attacked by ants; and T3 = sequential artificial deneedling. The three development stages of the plants in two distinct slopes were also evaluated. The results allow concluding that there is a significant reduction in Pinus taeda development when attacked by leaf cutting ants during the first 24 months. In the artificially deneedled plants, there was a significant reduction related to the ones deneedled by the ants, for all the analyzed variables.

Realizou-se um estudo sobre o efeito de cobertura e períodos de manejo de plantas daninhas em plantios no ano de 1999 de Pinus taeda, localizados na Província de Corrientes, Argentina. Em razão das características da área, várzeas, foram construídos camalhões de 1,80 m de largura por 0,60 m de altura para o plantio das mudas e, a seguir, instaladas parcelas com três fileiras de 12 plantas em cada uma no espaçamento de 1,75 m entre as mudas e 4,0 m entre o centro dos camalhões. Foram medidas somente as 10 plantas do camalhão central, com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito de diferentes modalidades e intensidades de manejo de plantas daninhas na sobrevivência (%), no desenvolvimento inicial em altura (cm), no diâmetro do colo (cm) e no fator de produtividade (cm³) das mudas de Pinus taeda. Avaliaram-se as modalidades de controle: controle químico na linha do plantio (camalhão) e controle químico em área total sendo avaliados por dois períodos: um ano e dois anos de controle, tendo ainda uma testemunha, sem nenhum controle. O delineamento estatístico do experimento foi em blocos ao acaso, com três repetições. Diferenças significativas foram obtidas entre os tratamentos de controle químico em relação ao sem controle. Os resultados levaram à conclusão de que é benéfico o controle por dois períodos e que não houve diferença quanto às modalidades de controle (camalhão e área total). As mudas de Pinus taeda foram submetidas ao teste de Tukey para analise da sobrevivência e não apresentaram diferença significativa a 5% de probabilidade de erro nas médias.

A study on the effect of vegetation cover and weed management periods on plantings of Pinus taeda was carried out in the Province of Corrientes, Argentina, in 1999. Due to the area characteristics, low flatlands, 1.80 m wide x 0.60 m high ridges were built for seedling planting. Following, plots with 3 rows of 12 plants each, at the spacing of 1.75 m between plants and 4 m between the center of the ridges, were installed. Only 10 plants in the central ridge were measured in order to evaluate the different methods and intensity of weed management in survival rate (%), initial height development (cm), stem diameter (cm) and seedling yield (cm³) of Pinus taeda. The following control methods were evaluated: chemical control in the planting area (ridge) and chemical control in the whole area were evaluated twice: one and two years of chemical control, with control treatment and without control treatment. The experimental design was completely randomized with three repetitions. Significant differences were found between the chemical control treatments compared to the treatment without control. The results showed that the chemical control during 2 periods is beneficial, and no differences between control methods (ridge and total area) were found. Survival data of Pinus taeda seedlings were examined by the Tukey's test and showed no significant differences between the means at 5% probability.

RESUMO Em janeiro de 2005, pela primeira vez, foi constatada a ocorrência de Glycaspis brimblecombei (Moore, 1964) (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) em espécies de Eucalyptus spp. no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. A observação ocorreu nos municípios de Butiá, Caçapava do Sul e Santa Maria.

ABSTRACT January, 2005: occurrence of Glycaspis brimblecombei (Moore, 1964) (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) in species of Eucalyptus spp. Was verified for the first time in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Observations occurred in the cites of Butiá, Caçapava do Sul and Santa Maria.

Observou-se, pela primeira vez, Phaops thunbergi (Dalman, 1823) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) danificando plantas de acácia-negra (Acacia mearnsii De Wild.) no Brasil. A incidência ocorreu no município de Butiá, Rio Grande do Sul (30°13'56.1" Sul, 51°58'34.6" Oeste), em janeiro de 2004.

The occurrence of Phaops thunbergi (Dalman, 1823) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) attacking plants of black wattle (Acacia mearnsii De Wild.) in Brazil was observed. It was recorded for the first time in Butiá, State of Rio Grande do Sul (30°13'56.1" South, 51°58'34.6" West) in January 2004.

Realizou-se um estudo para elaborar um plano de amostragem de formigas cortadeiras em área de pré-plantio florestal, na empresa Bosques del Plata situada no Departamento de Santo Tomé, província de Corrientes, Argentina. O trabalho teve como objetivo estudar a distribuição espacial de formigueiros do gênero Acromyrmex em área de pré-plantio de Pinus spp., determinar o tamanho ótimo de parcelas e estimar a intensidade amostral desse gênero de formigas. Concluiu-se que a distribuição espacial dos ninhos de Acromyrmex spp. em Corrientes-Argentina, se ajusta ao modelo casual, com o tamanho ótimo de parcela para amostrar a densidade de formigueiros (ninhos.ha-1) de 700m² (10x70m) e a intensidade amostral ótima de 10,5% da área total para um erro esperado de 24%.

A study was conducted to elaborate a sampling plan to leaf cutting ants in forest pre-planting areas, at Bosques del Plata company, located in Santo Tome, Corrientes province, Argentine. The research had as object of study the spatial distribution of Acromyrmex nests in Pinus spp. pre-planting areas to determine the adequate plots size and to estimate the sampling intensity to this genus of ants. It was concluded that the Acromyrmex spp. nests spatial distribution in Corrientes-Argentine, adjusts to the randomized model, the adequate plot size to sample the nests density (hole. ha-1) is 700m2 (10x70m) and the adequate sampling intensity is 10.5% for a predicted error of 24%.

RESUMO Neste trabalho, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do formicida Citromax a base de timbó (Ateleia glazioviana) em diferentes doses no controle de Acromyrmex lundi, em campo nativo, no município de São Sepé, estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Foram analisados quatro tratamentos, constituídos por doses de 5g, 10g e 15g de “Citromax” e 10g de “Mirex-S” (sulfluramida 0,3%) por formigueiro. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado com dez repetições, considerando cada formigueiro uma repetição. A eficiência foi avaliada no 1º, 5º, 10º, 15º e 20º dia após a aplicação dos tratamentos. Os resultados obtidos permitiram concluir que “Citromax” apresenta ação de choque, pois houve alto percentual de controle nos primeiros cinco dias. O controle de A. lundi mediante a utilização do formicida “Citromax”, foi eficiente em todas as doses avaliadas, obtendo-se um percentual de controle superior a 85%. Não houve influência do tamanho do formigueiro em relação ao percentual de controle.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was the analysis of the effect of the formicide “Citromax”, formulated with Ateleia glazioviana, in different doses on the control of Acromyrmex lundi, in native field in São Sepé county, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Four treatments were analyzed, constituted of doses of 5, 10 and 15g of “Citromax” and 10g of “Mirex-S” (sulphluramide 0,3%) in each nest. The statistical design was completely randomized with 10 repetitions, considering each nest as one repetition. The effectiveness was evaluated in the 1st, 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th day after treatment application. The obtained results allow to conclude that “Citromax” shows an impact action, because there was a high percentage of control in the first five days. The Acromyrmex lundi control due to “Citromax” formicide was efficient in all the evaluated doses, obtaining a control percentage up to 85%. The influence of net size was not observed in relation to the percentage control.
