RESUMO Para que haja uma restauração florestal eficaz é de fundamental importância o conhecimento sobre o crescimento inicial das plantas. Dentre os aspectos a serem considerados destacam-se as exigências nutricionais das espécies utilizadas para tal finalidade, tendo em vista que essas áreas, geralmente, apresentam solos de baixa fertilidade, o que pode dificultar o estabelecimento e crescimento das espécies plantadas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência da adubação fosfatada em espécies florestais nativas, destinadas à recuperação de uma área degradada. O experimento foi conduzido no Centro de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico da UFLA - Fazenda Muquém, situada no município de Lavras, Minas Gerais. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos casualizados completos, com 12 repetições e uma planta por parcela, em esquema fatorial 7 x 4, sendo sete espécies e quatro doses de superfosfato simples (0, 150, 300 e 450 gramas/cova). Aos 60 dias após o plantio, foram coletados dados sobre porcentagem de sobrevivência, diâmetro ao nível do solo e altura das plantas. Aos 300 dias, além do diâmetro e altura, foi avaliada a área de projeção de copa das plantas. As espécies apresentaram altos percentuais de sobrevivência, com exceção do Inga edulis, com sobrevivência de 58%. Dentre as sete espécies estudadas, Schinus terebinthifolius e Guazuma ulmifolia foram as que apresentaram maior crescimento dos parâmetros analisados, sendo, portanto, as espécies de maior potencial para um recobrimento mais rápido dessa área. A adubação fosfatada influenciou, de forma distinta, o crescimento inicial das sete espécies, em relação às doses de superfosfato simples aplicadas. Recomenda-se a dose de 250 gramas de superfosfato simples por cova, como adubação de base para todas as espécies.

ABSTRACT For an effective forest restoration, knowledge about the initial growth of plants is of fundamental importance. Among the aspects to be considered, the nutritional requirements of the species used for this purpose stand out, considering that these areas generally have low fertility soils, which can hinder the establishment and growth of the planted species. The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of phosphate fertilization on native forest species, destined to the recovery of a degraded area. The experiment was carried out at the Center for Scientific and Technological Development at UFLA - Fazenda Muquém, located in the municipality of Lavras, Minas Gerais. The experimental design used was in complete randomized blocks, with 12 replicates and one plant per plot, in a 7 x 4 factorial scheme, with seven species and four doses of simple superphosphate (0, 150, 300 and 450 grams/pit). At 60 days after planting, data on percentage of survival, diameter at ground level and plant height were collected. At 300 days, in addition to the diameter and height, the canopy projection area of the plants was evaluated. The species showed high percentages of survival, with the exception of Inga edulis, with 58% survival. Among the seven species studied, Schinus terebinthifolius and Guazuma ulmifolia were the ones that showed the highest growth in the analyzed parameters, being, therefore, the species with the greatest potential for a faster covering of this area. Phosphate fertilization influenced, in a different way, the initial growth of the seven species, in relation to the doses of simple superphosphate applied. It is recommended to dose 250 grams of simple superphosphate per hole, as a basic fertilization for all species.

Abstract We present the first records of insect visitors and pollinators of Bertholletia excelsa (Lecythidaceae) in a 25 years plantation outside the Amazon biome, flowering and producing Brazil nuts. We installed a platform to observe and photograph the insects. The collected insects were stored, mounted, and identified by specialists. Six species were observed, three of them classified as potential pollinators (Centris lutea, Eulaema nigrita, Eulaema cingulata). The species E. nigrita and E. cingulata were already reported as a pollinators of Brazil nut in Amazon. This is the first record of C. lutea as potential pollinators for B. excelsa.

ABSTRACT Background: This study aims to evaluate the technical feasibility of simple coppice system, in a planted stand of the native arboreal species Eremanthus erythropappus (DC.) MacLeish (candeia), according to different moments of soil scarification. The experiment is located in Baependi - MG (Brazil), where the mean altitude is 1,165 m and it´s under mild mesothermal climate. The first cycle was harvested under a clear-cutting system at 8 years after planting, with manual soil scarification and exposure of roots around the harvested trees stumps, at 5, 6, 7, and 8 weeks after cutting, i.e., four treatments with four repetitions of 50m2 plots each. In the first months, adventitious buds sprouting from the roots have been observed inside and outside the perimeter around stumps. The area remained fenced, without thinning or application of fertilizers and, until the third year, the selective clearing was done to eliminate weed competition. Six years after the treatment, measurements of diameter at 1.30 m height (DBH), the height of the sprouts, and the circumference at soil height (CSH) of stumps were taken. Results: After six years, the regenerated site under simple coppice system presented a density of established plants 216% higher than the harvested site using a high forest system (first cycle), but with only 4.3% of the commercial volume. The correlation between the density of sprouts and the density of stumps indicated that initial plant density can influence the number of sprouts after harvest. Conclusion: It was verified the simple coppice system feasibility and that scarification technique can be applied up to eight weeks after tree cutting.

RESUMO Uma das alternativas para se obter espécies potenciais para a revegetação de áreas degradadas é utilizar as que se desenvolvem a partir do banco de sementes de topsoil e nesse contexto, as gramíneas são as mais indicadas por possuírem características associadas à estabilização do solo. Este estudo objetivou avaliar as espécies nativas desenvolvidas em banco de sementes de topsoil ferruginoso e selecionar as gramíneas de maior índice de valor de importância (IVI), considerando-as espécies em potencial para utilização em programas de revegetação. O topsoil foi depositado na Unidade de Pesquisa e Inovação em Campos Rupestres Ferruginosos da Gerdau, Ouro Branco, MG, Brasil e após a germinação e estabelecimento das plantas, realizou-se estudos fitossociológicos. Eragrostis polytricha Nees apresentou maiores valores não apenas de IVI, mas também de Frequência Relativa e Cobertura Relativa, adicionalmente apresentou o segundo maior valor de Densidade Relativa. Portanto, recomendamos E. polytricha para a utilização em programas de revegetação.

ABSTRACT An alternative to find adequate species to revegetate mined sites is surveying the species that develop from the local topsoil seed bank. In that sense, grass species are usually the most indicated ones, as they contribute to stabilizing soil. We aimed to evaluate the native species that would develop from the seed bank of a ferruginous topsoil and select the grass species with highest importance value indexes (IVI’s) for their potential of use in revegetation programs. The evaluated topsoil was deposited in the Gerdau’s Unit for Research and Innovation on Ferruginous Rocky Outcrops at Ouro Branco, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, where phytosociological studies were conducted upon seed bank development. Eragrostis polytricha Nees showed highest values not only of IVI but also of relative frequency and relative cover, in addition to the second highest value of relative density. Thus, we recommend E. polytricha as a potential species for being used in revegetation programs.

Resumo O uso de polímeros hidrorretentores surge como uma alternativa para disponibilizar água de forma adequada na fase de implantação de povoamentos florestais, além de reter nutrientes necessários para o estabelecimento e desenvolvimento destes. No presente trabalho, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do polímero hidrorretentor e a influência de diferentes doses de fertilização mineral no crescimento, teor e acúmulo de nutrientes do híbrido clonal de Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis, na fase de implantação. O experimento foi realizado em delineamento de blocos casualizados completos, em esquema fatorial 2 x 5, sendo duas doses do polímero (0 e 1 g planta-1) e cinco combinações de fertilização mineral (N0P0K0, N0P1K0, N1P0K1, N1P1K1 e N2P2K2, correspondendo à dose de N (N0 = 0, N1 = 62 e N2 = 124 g do fertilizante por planta), P (P0 = 0, P1 = 75 e P2 = 150 g do fertilizante por planta) e K (K0 = 0, K1 = 62 e K2 = 124 g do fertilizante planta)), em três repetições com cinco plantas por parcela. As avaliações foram realizadas aos 30, 60, 120 e 150 dias pós-plantio, quando foram mensurados a altura total e o diâmetro do colo, além da análise química nutricional, aos 150 dias. A partir dos dados obtidos, observou-se que não houve interação entre o efeito do polímero e doses de fertilização mineral. Para o diâmetro do colo, o uso do polímero proporcionou maior crescimento às mudas somente nos 30 primeiros dias de avaliação, e para altura houve maior crescimento nas avaliações aos 30, 60 e 120 dias de plantio. Os tratamentos contendo fósforo (18% de P2O5) obtiveram maior incremento em diâmetro em relação aos demais nos primeiros 60 dias pós-plantio. Nas outras avaliações, a maior dose de fertilizante (N2P2K2) foi responsável pelo maior crescimento em diâmetro e altura. A maior dose de fertilização mineral promoveu maior acúmulo de NPK na parte aérea das plantas (caule, ramos e folhas). Portanto, o polímero proporcionou maior crescimento às mudas na fase inicial de desenvolvimento, e o fósforo se mostrou essencial para o crescimento em diâmetro e altura na fase de implantação do híbrido utilizado.

Abstract The use of water retaining polymer appears as an alternative to provide adequate water the phase of implantation the forest stands, further retaining nutrients necessary for the establishment and development of these. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the water retaining polymer and influence of the different forms of mineral fertilization at growth, content and nutrient accumulation of a clonal hybrid of Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis in the implantation phase. The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design at 2 x 5 factorial scheme, with two polymer doses (0 and 1 g plant-1) and five mineral fertilization combinations (N0P0K0, N0P1K0, N1P0K1, N1P1K1 e N2P2K2, corresponding to the dose of N (N0 = 0, N1 = 62 e N2 = 124 g of fertilizer per plant), P (P0 = 0, P1 = 75 e P2 = 150 g of fertilizer per plant) e K (K0 = 0, K1 = 62 e K2 = 124 g of fertilizer per plant)) in three replications with five plants per plot. The valuates were performed at 30, 60, 120 and 150 days post-planting, when total height and root collar diameter were measured, as well as nutritional chemical analysis, at 150 days. From the obtained data, observed that there was no interaction between the effect of the polymer and doses of mineral fertilization. For the root collar diameter use of the polymer only provided bigger growth seedlings at 30 days the evaluate, and for the height, there was greater growth in the valuates in the 30, 60 and 120 days of planting. The phosphorus treatments were obtained a bigger increment to the diameter in relation for the others 60 days after planting. These the other evaluations of higher fertilizer dosage (N2P2K2) was responsible for the greater growth in diameter and height. The higher dosage of mineral fertilization promoted greater accumulation at NPK in the aerial part of the plants (stem, branches e leaves). Therefore, the polymer gave a higher growth seedling in the initial phase development, and the phosphorus was shown to be essential for the growth in diameter and height in the phase of implantation of the hybrid used.

ABSTRACT Pteridium aquilinum is an invasive species that stands out for its aggressiveness, invading pastures, agricultural areas and forests. In order to improve this situation, several techniques have been tested, although not common to tropical climate areas. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the survival of eleven tree species according to their density, planting model, and way of bracken removal, in the restoration of an Atlantic Forest area invaded by the species after a fire. The experiment was installed in a randomized block design, in a 2 × 3 × 2 factorial arrangement (planting × density × bracken removal methods). Bracken cover and survival were evaluated nine months after planting. In conclusion, more densified plantations with fast-growing species, together with bracken removal by harrowing, were more effective in establishing the species in bracken-dominated areas.

RESUMO O uso de materiais renováveis e processos mais sustentáveis são essenciais para minimizar os impactos negativos do crescimento populacional. O bambu é uma alternativa viável, porque é um produto com propriedades potenciais de substituição à madeira. No entanto, para obter um bom rendimento, é necessário identificar locais adequados para a silvicultura das espécies. Objetivou-se prever áreas favoráveis ao melhor estabelecimento e desenvolvimento de Bambusa vulgaris e Dendrocalamus giganteus, em território brasileiro, funcionando como um zoneamento de aptidão edafoclimática que pode subsidiar a tomada de decisões. Utilizaram-se pontos georreferenciados de ocorrência natural das espécies, coletados em herbário virtual. As variáveis ambientais foram extraídas das bases de dados WorldClim, MOD16 e SoilGrids. Para selecionar o conjunto de variáveis a ser utilizado na modelagem de cada espécie, foi realizado um teste de correlação. A partir deste resultado, dez variáveis ambientais foram utilizadas para cada espécie, e variáveis não correlacionadas foram escolhidas. Uma análise de componentes principais foi aplicada para selecionar as variáveis que mais explicam a variabilidade. Para o mapa de distribuição, foi utilizado o algoritmo Maxent, baseado no princípio da entropia máxima, avaliado por meio das métricas AUC e TSS. B. vulgaris apresentou uma grande área para adaptação no território brasileiro, ao contrário da espécie D. giganteus, que mostrou área de aptidão limitada.

ABSTRACT The use of renewable materials and more sustainable processes are essential to minimize the negative impacts of population growth. Bamboo is a viable alternative, because it is a product with potential properties for wood replacement. However, to achieve a good yield, it is necessary to identify suitable sites for the forestry of the species. This study aimed to forecast favorable areas for the best establishment and development of Bambusa vulgaris and Dendrocalamus giganteus in the Brazilian territory, functioning as a zoning for edaphoclimatic aptitude that can support decision-making. It was performed using georeferenced points of natural occurrence for the species, collected from a virtual herbarium. The environmental variables were extracted from the WorldClim, MOD16 and SoilGrids databases. In order to select the set of variables to be used for modeling each species, a correlation test was performed. From this result, ten environmental variables were used for each species, and non-correlated variables were chosen. A principal component analyses was applied to select the variables that better explained variability. For the distribution map, the Maxent algorithm was used, based on the principle of maximum entropy, evaluated by the AUC and TSS metrics. Bambusa vulgaris presents a large area for adaptation in the Brazilian territory, unlike the Dendrocalamus giganteus species, which showed a limited aptitude area.

ABSTRACT The objective of the present study was to quantify the biomass and carbon stock in a Seasonal Semideciduous Forest remnant in southern Minas Gerais. Forest inventory data taken between 2010 and 2013 in permanent plots, was used to estimate biomass with an allometric equation. Basic wood density (Db) and carbon content were determined in the laboratory and the carbon stock was obtained by multiplying biomass by carbon content. The species with the lowest and highest Db were Nectandra lanceolata (0.38 g cm-3) and Machaerium villosum (0.77 g cm-3). The species that showed the lowest and highest carbon content values were Casearia decandra (41.85%) and Nectandra oppositifolia (46.57%). The biomass stock for the area was 126.92 ± 0.09 t ha-1, which corresponded to 55.91 ± 0.05 t ha -1 of carbon stock and a periodic annual increment of 3.07 t ha-1 year -1.

RESUMO Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito do espaçamento, arranjo e composição de grupos ecológicos das mudas plantadas no processo de restauração de margem de reservatório artificial no sudeste do Brasil. As avaliações foram realizadas 12 anos após a implantação do experimento em que cinco modelos de plantios mistos foram testados. Primeiramente, fez-se uma avalição geral do povoamento por meio de levantamentos do estrato arbóreo, regenerante, banco de sementes e de análise química e textural do solo. Em seguida, lançou-se mão dos indicadores de recuperação sobrevivência das árvores plantadas, área basal e densidade da comunidade arbórea, acúmulo de serapilheira sobre o solo e índice de fechamento do dossel para comparar os modelos e checar a influência dos fatores experimentais nestes parâmetros. Como resultado da análise geral, obteve-se que o povoamento encontra-se em situação de baixa diversidade, com regeneração deficiente e banco de sementes dominado majoritariamente por uma espécie arbórea exótica utilizada no plantio e espécies herbáceas invasoras, o que pode comprometer a automanutenção do povoamento no futuro. O fator que mais influenciou os modelos foi a composição de grupos ecológicos com os melhores resultados apresentados pelos modelos em que se usaram ambos os grupos das pioneiras e não pioneiras. Provavelmente, o arranjo e o espaçamento de plantio não tiveram muita influência devido à mortalidade das mudas e à regeneração natural que se desenvolveu até esta idade. Assim, recomenda-se que na implantação de povoamentos para reconstituição de matas ciliares não sejam utilizadas apenas espécies pioneiras e sugere-se que a proporção de 50% de espécies pioneiras e 50% de não pioneiras, com o maior número possível de espécies, seja utilizada em áreas com deficiência da regeneração natural.

ABSTRACT This work aimed to assess the effect of spacing, arrangement and ecological group composition of planted seedlings on the restoration process of artificial reservoir shores in southeastern Brazil. The assessments were performed 12 years after the settlement of the experiment in which five mixed stand models were tested. First, a general evaluation of the stand was performed when we surveyed the overstory and understory, seed bank and soil for chemical analysis.Then, the restoration indicators survival of planted trees, basal area and density of the tree community, litter accumulated on the soil and canopy closure index were utilized to compare the plantation models and to assess the influence the experimental factors on these parameters. In the general analysis, we found that the studied stand presents low diversity, poor regeneration, and seed bank dominated mostly by one planted exotic tree species and weeds, which may jeopardize the self-maintenance of the stand in the future. The factor that most influenced the models was the ecological group composition with the best performance found for models in which both pioneer and non-pioneer groups were used. Probably, the plantation arrangement and spacing did not have greater influence due to both plant mortality and natural regeneration that has developed to this age. Hence, it is not recommended the use of only pioneer species in the implantation of riparian forest and the proportion of 50% pioneers and 50% non-pioneers using as much species as possible is indicated for areas that might present constraints for the natural regeneration.

Objetivou-se analisar a sucessão ecológica em áreas desmatadas e dominadas espontaneamente por Pteridium aquilinum na Serra da Mantiqueira, por meio do levantamento da regeneração natural de espécies arbustivo-arbóreas, bem como avaliar a influência dos históricos de perturbação e condições edáficas. Amostraram-se duas áreas em Bocaina de Minas, Minas Gerais, em regeneração há 6 e 20 anos, com 60 parcelas de 10 m², inventariando-se os regenerantes de 0,15 a 3 m de altura, todos identificados e medidos em diâmetro e altura. Registraram-se 1.159 indivíduos de 53 espécies, destacando-se a família Melastomataceae pela maior riqueza e abundância. As áreas diferenciaram-se na composição de espécies, com similaridade de Jaccard de 3,7%. Sob análise de correspondência canônica, a área de seis anos evidenciou correlações positivas entre a comunidade regenerante e teores de fósforo não lábil e argila, enquanto a área de 20 anos mostrou correlações com K, P, Ca, Al, pH e soma de bases trocáveis, além de maiores densidades de Pteridium. Os resultados demonstraram que a dominância de P. aquilinum conduz a uma sucessão ecológica sob inibição, onde a samambaia atua negativamente sobre a riqueza e abundância de populações arbustivo-arbóreas. Também se confirmou a preferência da espécie por terrenos declivosos, a maiores altitudes, com solos mais ácidos, beneficiando-se também de distúrbios. Por outro lado, chama-se a atenção para a suscetibilidade desses ambientes montanos e para a importância da preservação de sua vegetação natural, assim como do desbaste das samambaias como estratégia de restauração florestal.

This study was set out with the objective of analyzing successional process in areas which are deforested and dominated by Pteridium aquilinum in the Serra da Mantiqueira mountain range, by researching the natural regeneration of shrub and tree species and evaluating both disturbance history and the edaphic conditions on the natural regeneration community. This research investigated two abandoned pasture areas in Bocaina de Minas county exposed to natural regeneration intervals ranging from six years (area named 6A) to twenty years (area named 20A). The inventory occurred from sixty plots of 10 m², where all samples surveyed were between 0.15 m and 3 m high. All samples were identified and both the diameter in ground level and total height of the specimens were measured. The survey totaled 1,159 samples and 53 species. Melastomataceae was registered with the highest species richness and the highest specimen abundance. The two sampled areas showed species composition differences, with Jaccard similarity coefficient equal to 3.7%. The canonical correspondence analysis showed the correlations between natural regeneration stratum and non-labile phosphorus and clay in the 6A area. On the other hand, the 20A area showed correlations between plant regeneration and the K, P, Ca²+, Al³+ levels, with higher pH levels, and with the sum of exchangeable bases. In addition, the vegetation surveyed in area 20A was correlated with higher Pteridium population density. The results showed that the dominance of Pteridium aquilinum leads to successional process under inhibition, in which the ferns act negatively on the richness and abundance of shrub populations. It was also confirmed the Pteridium's affinity to steep areas, mainly in higher altitudes, where the soil is acid, as well as its preference to disturbed areas. Moreover, we highlight the fragilities of the mountain environments and the importance of preserving natural vegetation, as well as the bracken management as a strategy for forest restoration.

Objetivou-se avaliar o potencial da regeneração natural na restauração da vegetação de área em torno de nascente perturbada, após isolamento de impactos, em ambiente florestal e de pastagem abandonada. Assim, analisou-se a estrutura do estrato arbóreo e das regenerações naturais sob dossel e em área aberta no entorno de uma nascente em processo de recuperação, localizada em Nazareno, Minas Gerais. Levantou-se o estrato arbóreo em 4 parcelas permanentes (10×50 m), amostrando-se as árvores com DAP 5 cm, medindo-lhes diâmetro e altura e identificando-as. Na regeneração natural, lançaram-se 16 parcelas (10×2 m), identificando e medindo em altura os indivíduos arbóreos com altura > 10 cm e DAP < 5 cm. As amostragens se deram aos 7 e 51 meses após o isolamento da área. Calcularam-se os parâmetros fitossociológicos do estrato arbóreo e regenerativo por espécie, classificando-as por síndrome de dispersão e grupo ecológico; calcularam-se os índices de diversidade de Shannon e equabilidade de Pielou por comunidades, também comparadas por índice de Sorensen. As áreas mostraram-se dissimilares, com mais espécies na regeneração sob dossel, indicando aporte no sistema. As comunidades apresentaram alta proporção de espécies zoocóricas e padrão de aumento de espécies climácicas exigentes de luz e diminuição na proporção de pioneiras entre os inventários, indicando avanço na sucessão natural. A densidade de indivíduos na regeneração sob dossel foi muito superior, provavelmente pela dominância de braquiária na área aberta, mostrando que, para esse caso, a utilização da regeneração natural como método exclusivo de recuperação não deve ser aplicada.

This work evaluated the potential of natural regeneration in the restoration a disturbed water spring surrouding, after stopping the impacts, on forest and wasted grazing land. It was analyzed the structure of the stratum and natural regeneration under canopy and in open area surrounding a water spring under process of recovery, located in Nazareno, Minas Gerais. The tree stratum was assessed in 4 permanent plots (10 × 50 m), sampling, identifying and measuring height of trees with DBH 5 cm diameter. For assessing the natural regeneration, 16 plots (10 × 2 m) were set. Trees with height> 10 cm and DBH <5 cm were identified and measured. The samples were established at 7 and 51 months after the isolation of the area. Phytosociological parameters of the tree and regenerative strata were calculated for each species, classifying them by the type of dispersal and ecological group. Shannon diversity index and evenness were calculated for each community which were also compared by Sorensen index. The results showed that the areas are dissimilar, with most species found at the regeneration under canopy, showing a intake in the system. The communities had a high proportion of zoochoric species and pattern of higher light demanding climax species and a decrease in the proportion of pioneer species from one inventory to another, indicating progress in natural succession. The density of the individuals regenerating under canopy was much greater, probably due to the dominance of Brachiaria in the open area, showing that use of the regeneration as a unique method of recovery should not be applied.

Historicamente, as paisagens florestais têm sido modificadas pela ação do homem, causando sua destruição e fragmentação ao explorar seus recursos. No entanto, as florestas têm papel fundamental de proteção ao meio ambiente, principalmente em encostas, topos de morros, lagos, nascentes e às margens de rios. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo conhecer a diversidade e a estrutura da vegetação de uma mata ciliar de encosta em Bocaina de Minas (MG) e identificar as principais variáveis ambientais que influenciam na distribuição espacial das espécies. Realizou-se um inventário da comunidade arbórea no período de 5 a 20 de junho de 2004, onde foram alocadas dez parcelas de 10m×40m, distribuídas sistematicamente por todo o fragmento. Todos os indivíduos arbustivo-arbóreos existentes no interior das parcelas com diâmetro a 1,30m do solo ≥ 5,0cm foram amostrados. Variáveis relacionadas ao substrato (pH, teores de P, K, Ca, Mg e Al, V, MO, areia, silte e argila) foram obtidas para cada parcela a partir de análises laboratoriais de amostras do solo. Outras variáveis como distância do rio e estágio sucessional também foram avaliadas. Para correlacionar as variáveis ambientais com a distribuição da abundância das espécies, foram utilizadas técnicas de análise de correspondência canônica (CCA) e correlação de Spearman. Os valores para os índices de diversidade de Shannon (H') e equabilidade de Pielou (J') obtidos foram 3,53 e 0,76. Os padrões emergentes das variáveis ambientais e a abundância das espécies indicam que estas se distribuíram ao longo do fragmento, principalmente em função do teor de P no solo e do estágio sucessional das parcelas. Além disso, várias espécies produziram correlações significativas entre sua abundância nas parcelas e as variáveis referentes ao estágio sucessional, variações edáficas químicas, texturais e distância até as margens dos cursos d'água.

Historically, forest landscapes have been modified by human activities, causing its destruction and fragmentation to exploit its resources. However, forests play a vital role in protecting the environment, especially on slops, hilltops, lakes, springs and river banks. This study aimed to understand the diversity and structure of vegetation on a slope of riparian forest in Bocaina de Minas, MG and identify key environmental variables that influence the spatial distribution of individual trees. An inventory of the tree community was conducted, in which ten of 10m×40m plots were allocated and systematically distributed throughout the study area. All individuals existing shrubs and trees within the plots with 1.30m diameter ≥ 5.0cm of soil were sampled in order to generate information on the horizontal structure, richness and diversity of the community. Variables related to the substrata were obtained for each plot from the topography and laboratory analysis of soil samples (pH, levels of P, K, Ca, Mg and Al, base saturation (V), organic matter and levels of sand, silt and clay). Other variables such as distance from the river and successional stage of the plots, were also evaluated. In order to correlate environmental variables with the abundance distribution of the species, a canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) and Spearman correlation were used. The Shannon diversity index (H') and evenness index (J') obtained were 3.53 and 0.76, respectively. The emerging patterns of environmental variables and the abundance of species indicate that these were distributed throughout the fragment, mainly due to the P content in soil and successional stage of the plots. In addition, several species have produced significant correlations between their abundance in the plots and the variables related to successional stage, variations in soil, and distance from the banks of water courses.

Foi avaliado o processo de regeneração natural de mata em função da distância do rio, da compactação do solo e da distância da fonte de sementes em uma área degradada por uso como área de empréstimo de terra para construção da barragem da UHE Camargos, MG, aos 155 meses após o plantio. Para o levantamento da regeneração natural foram implantadas parcelas de 2 x 15 m a cada 10 m, dentro de três transectos, alocados no sentido do declive, com 15 m de largura e comprimento variável, onde foi identificada e medida a altura de todos os indivíduos com DAP<0,05 m e altura maior que 0,10 m. Foram encontradas 64 espécies de 27 famílias. O fragmento de mata adjacente à área de plantio deste estudo forneceu grande quantidade de propágulos para a regeneração, pois muitas das espécies regenerantes na área degradada foram encontradas apenas nesse estrato arbóreo. Distância de até 75 m do fragmento não afetou a densidade e a altura das plantas nem a diversidade da regeneração, mas, nas parcelas em que houve desenvolvimento de capim-gordura, a densidade de planta arbórea ou arbustiva foi menor, porém com indivíduos de maior altura, uma vez que somente plantas que conseguiram ultrapassar a massa vegetal formada pela planta invasora sobreviveram.

The process of natural regeneration in an area degraded for the construction of the Camargos hydroelectric plant dam, MG, was analyzed 155 months after the planting for its reclamation. The analyses were done in function of the distance to the river, soil compaction and distance of the seed sources. The survey of the natural regeneration was done in plots of 2 x 15m allocated every 10m along three transects (15m width and variable length) parallel to the slope direction. All plants with DBH < 5cm and height > 10cm were identified and measured in height. Sixty four species of 27 families were found. The adjacent fragment provides a great amount of propagules for the natural regeneration, since many regenerative species in the recovering area were found only in the arboreal stratum of that fragment. A distance of up to 75m to the fragment did not affect the regeneration density, height and diversity, but in the plots taken by the grass Mellinis minutiflora, the density was smaller and the plants higher.

RESUMO Este estudo teve como objetivo verificar as diferenças na composição da flora e das guildas das comunidades arbustivo-arbóreas em três áreas de mata ciliar em diferentes estágios de sucessão florestal. Foram alocadas 46 parcelas de 400 m2 e todos os indivíduos arbóreos existentes no seu interior, com diâmetro à altura do peito (DAP) = 5 cm, foram amostrados. Foram identificadas 282 espécies distribuídas em 140 gêneros e 61 famílias. No que se refere às guildas de dispersão, constatou-se que, em média, 72% das espécies e 59% dos indivíduos têm suas fontes de propágulos disseminadas por animais (zoocórica), 19% e 23% pelo vento (anemocórica) e 6% e 13% por meio barocoria ou balística (autocórica). As proporções de espécies e indivíduos por grupo ecológico foram, respectivamente, pioneiras: 14,5% e 18%; clímax exigente de luz: 49,5% e 62,5% e, clímax tolerante à sombra: 36,5% e 21,5%.Verificou-se, ainda, que houve um aumento significativo da importância das espécies zoocóricas e tolerantes à sombra com a maturidade das florestas, enquanto o número de espécies que necessitam de luz com dispersão abiótica decresceu significativamente com o avanço dessa maturidade.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to verify the differences in the composition of the flora and of guilds of arbustive- arboreal communities of three areas of ciliary forest, in different forest succession stages. Fourty-six plots of 400 m2 were allocated and all existent arboreal individuals inside the portions with diameter breast height (DBH) greater than or equal to 5cm were sampled. A total of 282 species, distributed in 140 genera and 61 families were identified. With regard to dispersal guilds, it was found that on average, the spread of sources of propagules of 72% of the species and 59% of the individuals was zoochorous, while 19% and 23%, respectively, was wind anemocoric, and 6% and 13%, respectively, was autochoric. The proportions of individuals per species and ecological group were, respectively, pioneers: 14.5% and 18%; climax demanding of light: 49.5% and 62.5%, and shade-tolerant: 36.5% and 21.5%. It was also verified that there was a significant increase in the importance of animal dispersed species and shade tolerant species with the maturity of forests, while the number of species that required light abiotically dispersed decreased significantly with the advancement of maturity.

RESUMO Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a dinâmica da regeneração natural em duas nascentes em processo de recuperação no município de Lavras, MG. Para tanto, foram realizados dois inventários após o isolamento das áreas, nos períodos de Agosto/2005 (18 meses) e Abril/2006 (24 meses). Foram alocadas no total 122 parcelas de 5×5 m (25 m2), sendo 76 na nascente 1 e 46 parcelas na nascente 2. As parcelas foram distribuídas de forma sistemática ao longo de toda a área das nascentes. Todos os indivíduos com altura superior a 0,10 m e DAP (diâmetro a altura do peito) < 5 cm, foram identificados, tendo seus diâmetros e alturas mensuradas. Foram avaliadas a composição florística, a estrutura, e a dinâmica da regeneração natural. Foram amostrados no total 524 indivíduos pertencentes a 24 famílias e 55 espécies. A família Asteraceae se destacou em número de espécies na nascente 1 e as famílias Fabaceae Faboideae, Myrtaceae e Solanaceae na nascente 2. As espécies Baccharis dracunculifolia e Vernonia ferruginea apresentaram os maiores índices de regeneração natural, na nascente 1, enquanto que as espécies Vernonia polyanthes e Nectandra nitidula se destacaram na nascente 2. O maior índice de diversidade foi registrado para a nascente 2 na segunda avaliação, aumentando de 3,324 (primeira avaliação) para 3,384 (segunda avaliação). O índice de similaridade florística encontrado entre as duas nascentes, foi de 20,0 e 18,5% para as avaliações 1 e 2 respectivamente. Durante o período de monitoramento, verificou-se um aumento significativo de 33,33 e 15,8% no número de indivíduos amostrados nas nascentes 1 e 2 respectivamente. O método da regeneração natural apresenta grande potencial para a recuperação da vegetação no entorno das duas nascentes, sendo necessária, no entanto, a adoção de técnicas de controle do capim Brachiaria sp.

ABSTRACT This work aimed at evaluating the natural regeneration dynamics in two springs in process of recovery in Lavras-MG, surrounded in December/2003. To do that, two springs were carried out from August/2005 (18 months) to April/2006 (24 months). 122 plots in the total of 5 x 5m (25m2) were plotted, being 76 plots in spring 1 and 46 plots in spring 2. The plots were distributed systematically throughout all the area of the springs. All individuals with height larger than 0.10 m and DBH lower than 5 cm were identified, having their diameters and height measured. Floristic composition, structural analyses and natural regeneration dynamics were studied. In the total, 524 individuals from 24 family and 55 species were sampled. The Asteraceae family was distinguished in species number in spring 1 and the families Fabaceae Faboideae, Myrtaceae and Solanaceae in spring 2. The species Baccharis dracunculifolia and Vernonia ferruginea presented the highest natural regeneration indexes in spring 1, while the species Vernonia polyanthes and Nectandra nitidula in spring 2. The higher diversity index was registered for the spring 2 in the second evaluation, having an increase from 3,324 (first evaluation) to 3,384 (second evaluation). The floristic similarity index registered between the springs was of 20.0% and 18.5% for the evaluations 1 and 2, respectively. During the time of monitoring, it was verified a significant increase of 33.33% and 15.8% in individuals number sampled in springs 1 and 2, respectively. The natural regeneration method presents potential for the recovering of the vegetation of the two springs; however, it is necessary the adoption of control techniques of Brachiaria sp. grass.
