Abstract The objective was to determine the effects of doses of controlled-release fertilizer and container volume on the initial growth and quality of Hymenaea courbaril seedlings. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2 x 4 factorial scheme, corresponding to two container volumes (1.8 and 2.2 L) and four doses of controlled-release fertilizer (0, 1.5, 3.0 and 4.5 g L-1 substrate) with eight replicates, each consisting of five seedlings (one in each container). The variables evaluated were: shoot height (H), stem diameter (SD), shoot dry mass (SDM, g plant-1), root dry mass (RDM, g plant-1), total dry mass (TDM, g plant-1), Dickson quality index (DQI), root volume (RV), nitrogen balance index (NBI) and chlorophylls. Controlled-release fertilizer at doses of 1.5 and 3.0 g L-1 provide Hymenaea courbaril seedlings with quality and sturdiness in both container sizes. Controlled-release fertilizer at the dose of 4.5 g L-1 is not indicated to obtain high quality standard in seedlings of Hymenaea courbaril, regardless of container volume.

Resumo O objetivo foi determinar os efeitos de doses de fertilizante de liberação controlada e o volume do recipiente no crescimento inicial e na qualidade de mudas de Hymenaea courbaril. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 x 4, correspondendo a dois volumes de recipientes (1,8 e 2,2 L) e quatro doses de adubo de liberação controlada (0; 1,5; 3,0 e 4,5 g L-1 de substrato), com oito repetições, cada uma composta por cinco mudas (uma em cada recipiente). As variáveis avaliadas foram: altura da parte aérea (H), diâmetro do caule (DC), massa seca da parte aérea (MSPA, g planta-1), massa seca da raiz (MSR, g planta-1), massa seca total (MST, g planta-1), índice de qualidade de Dickson (IQD), volume radicular (VR), índice de balanço de nitrogênio (IBN) e clorofilas. O fertilizante de liberação controlada, nas doses de 1,5 e 3,0 g L-1, proporciona qualidade e robustez às mudas de Hymenaea Courbaril, em ambos os tamanhos de recipiente. O fertilizante de liberação controlada, na dose de 4,5 g L-1, não é indicado para obtenção dealto padrão de qualidade em mudas de Hymenaea courbaril, independentementedo volume do recipiente.

ABSTRACT The tetrazolium test is a fast and effective method to determine seed viability. In this context, the objective was to adapt the methodology of the tetrazolium test, in relation to preconditioning, to determine the viability (Eugenia stipitata McVaugh ssp. sororia McVaugh) under different times of immersion in solution and seed size. The seeds of E. stipitata ssp. sororia need to go through preconditioning, fractionation being an indispensable technique to be performed before immersion of the seed in the tetrazolium solution, as it allows the contact of the salt with the tissue to be analyzed, which, when feasible, staining occurs (formation of the substance triphenyl-formazan). The immersion time of 26 hours in the tetrazolium solution (1% at 26 °C) is indicated for determining the viability of E. stipitata ssp. sororia seeds, regardless of the seed mass classes used.

RESUMO O teste de tetrazólio é um método rápido e eficaz para obter a viabilidade de sementes. Neste contexto, objetivou-se adequar a metodologia do teste de tetrazólio, em relação ao pré-condicionamento, para determinar a viabilidade de sementes de araçá-boi (Eugenia stipitata McVaugh ssp. sororia McVaugh) sob diferente tempo de imersão em solução e tamanho de semente. As sementes de E. stipitata ssp. sororia necessitam-se passar pelo pré-condicionamento, sendo o fracionamento uma técnica indispensável de ser realizada antes da imersão da semente na solução de tetrazólio, pois permite o contato do sal com o tecido a ser analisado, que quando viável ocorre a coloração (formação da substância trifenil-formazan). O tempo de imersão de 26 horas na solução de tetrazólio (1% a 26 °C) é indicado na determinação da viabilidade de sementes de Eugenia stipitata ssp. sororia. independentemente da classe de semente utilizada.

Resumo Produtos que apresentam ação bioestimulante em mudas florestais, como a base de alga Acadian® e hormônios, vêm sendo utilizados pelo efeito benéfico na fisiologia e crescimento de plantas, com o intuito de melhorar a qualidade de mudas florestais. O presente estudo estabelece como problema de pesquisa: Doses de Acadian® e Stimulate® podem ser eficazes no crescimento inicial, bem como nos índices fisiológicos de mudas de jatobá? As variáveis avaliadas foram: comprimento da parte aérea (H), diâmetro do caule (DC), incremento do diâmetro do caule (?DC) e da altura da parte aérea (?H), massa seca da parte aérea (MSPA, g plant-1), massa seca das raízes (MSR, g plant-1) e massa seca total (MST, g plant-1), e índice de qualidade de Dickson, taxa de assimilação líquida (EA, g.m-2.dia), taxa de crescimento relativo foliar (RA, g.m-2.dia ); razão de área foliar (FA, m2 .g-1), área foliar específica (SA, cm2.g-1), razão da massa foliar (Fw, g/g-1) e o índice de balanço de nitrogênio (IBN) e de clorofilas. O regulador de crescimento de plantas (Acadian®) na dose de máxima eficiência técnica, 0.28 ml L-1, promove incremento em diâmetro do caule em mudas de Hymenaea courbaril. O Acadian® promove incremento no conteúdo de clorofilas a e b em mudas de Hymenaea courbaril. As doses testadas de Stimulate® não promovem incremento no conteúdo de clorofilas a e b em mudas de Hymenaea courbaril.

Abstract Products that have biostimulant action on forest seedlings, such as those based seaweed Acadian® and hormones, have been used due to their beneficial effect on the physiology and growth of plants, in order to improve the quality of forest seedlings. The present study establishes as research problem: Can doses of Acadian® algae extract and Stimulate® be effective for the initial growth and physiological indices of jatobá seedlings? The variables evaluated were: shoot height (H), stem diameter (SD), increments in stem diameter (?SD) and shoot height (?H), shoot dry mass (SDM, g plant-1), root dry mass (RDM, g plant-1) and total dry mass (TDM, g plant-1), and Dickson quality index, net assimilation rate (EA, g.m-2.day), leaf relative growth rate (RA, g.m-2.day), leaf area ratio (FA, m2.g-1), specific leaf area (SA, cm2.g-1), leaf mass ratio (Fw, g/g-1) as well as nitrogen balance index (NBI) and chlorophylls. The plant growth regulators (Acadian®) at the dose of maximum technical efficiency of 0.28 ml L-1 promotes an increase in stem diameter in Hymenaea courbaril. Acadian® increases chlorophyll a and b contents in Hymenaea courbaril seedlings. The tested doses of Stimulate® do not increase chlorophyll a and b contents in H. courbaril seedlings.

Resumo: O presente estudo estabelece o seguinte problema de pesquisa: Sementes com e sem escarificação mecânica sob diferentes concentrações de Acadian®, Stimulate® e Trichoderma ssp. podem ser eficazes na promoção de emergência e vigor de plântulas de Hymenaea courbaril? O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 4 x 3 x 2, sendo as concentrações (0; 5,0; 10,0; e 15,0 mL.L-1), três hormônios (Acadian®, Stimulate® e Trichoderma ssp.) e com e sem escarificação mecânica, com quatro repetições, sendo cada uma delas composta de 25 sementes. O Acadian® na concentração de 5,0 mL.L-1 em sementes escarificadas de H. courbaril, exibe maior incremento no percentual de emergência e bem como na porcentagem de plântulas normais. O Stimulate® nas concentrações de 10,0 e 15,0 mL.L-1 é eficiente na obtenção de valores acima de 85% de emergência de plântulas com sementes submetidas a escarificação mecânica. Trichoderma spp. a partir de 9,0 mL.L-1 não favorece ganhos no percentual de plântulas normais de H. courbaril em sementes com e sem escarificação mecânica. A dose de máxima eficiência técnica (DMTE) do biorregulador Acadian® é de 8,50 mL.L-1 em sementes escarificadas de jatobá aumenta o percentual de emergência de plântulas.

Abstract: The present study establishes the following research problem: Can different concentrations of Acadian®, Stimulate®, and Trichoderma spp. be effective in promoting the emergence and vigor of Hymenaea courbaril seedlings with or without mechanical scarification? The experimental design used was completely randomized, in a 4 x 3 x 2 factorial scheme, corresponding to four concentrations (0, 5.0, 10.0, and 15.0 mL.L-1), three hormones (Acadian®, Stimulate® and Trichoderma spp.), with and without mechanical scarification, with four replicates, each of which consisting of 25 seeds. Acadian® at a concentration of 5.0 mL.L-1 in scarified seeds of H. courbaril leads to a greater increase in the percentage of emergence and percentage of normal seedlings. Stimulate® at concentrations of 10.0 and 15.0 mL.L-1 is efficient in obtaining more than 85% emergence seedlings with seeds subjected to mechanical scarification. Trichoderma spp. from 9.0 mL.L-1 does not favor gains in the percentage of normal seedlings of Hymenaea courbaril grown from seeds with and without mechanical scarification. The dose of maximum technical efficiency (DMTE) of the bioregulator Acadian® is 8.50 mL.L-1 and, in scarified seeds of H. courbaril, it increases the percentage of seedling emergence.

RESUMO Objetivou-se verificar a qualidade fisiológica de sementes de Myrciaria dubia, armazenadas em diferentes ambientes e embalagens durante 300 dias, a partir dos testes de condutividade elétrica, e vigor das plântulas. As sementes foram armazenadas dentro de embalagem de vidro e potes plásticos com água até à superfície do recipiente, no laboratório à temperatura ambiente entre 23 a 25°C e 60-70% UR e em câmara fria à temperatura entre 14-16°C e 50-60% UR. A cada período de armazenamento (0, 30, 60, 120, 180, 240 e 300 dias), foi retirada, de cada recipiente, uma amostra de 110 sementes e submetida às seguintes avaliações: curva de embebição de água, massa seca de sementes, teste de condutividade elétrica, emergência de plantulas e índice de velocidade de emergência. De acordo com os resultados, verificou-se que o armazenamento das sementes de Myrciaria dubia em potes plásticos com água até superfície do recipiente, quer no laboratório e quer na câmara fria, foi indicado para manter a qualidade fisiológica e vigor de plântulas até 300 dias.

ABSTRACT The study aimed to verify the physiological quality of seeds of Myrciaria dubia, stored for 300 days in different conditions and packaging, using tests of electrical conductivity and seedling vigour. The seeds were classified into three weight classes (small, medium and large). Small seeds were considered those with a weight of less than 0.84 g, medium seeds with a weight between 0.86 g and 1.20 g, and large seeds, a weight of greater than 1.22 g. The seeds were stored in glass containers and plastic pots topped up with water, in the laboratory at a room temperature of 23 to 25°C and relative humidity of 60-70%, and in a cold chamber at a temperature of 14-16°C and relative humidity of 50-60%. For each storage period (0, 30, 60, 120, 180, 240 and 300 days), a sample of 110 seeds was used for analyses, including imbibition curve, seed dry weight, electrical conductivity, seedling emergence and emergence speed index. According to the results obtained, the responses of the seeds in both the laboratory and cold-chamber, and stored in plastic pots topped up with water, were indicated for maintaining physiological quality and seedling vigour up to 300 days.

Resumen El objetivo fue investigar el efecto de las composiciones de sustrato con y sin la adición de fertilizantes de liberación controlada (CRF) y determinar las correlaciones entre las características morfológicas de Agonandra brasiliensis. Las variables estudiadas fueron: altura del brote, diámetro del collar, aumento de la altura del brote y diámetro del collar, peso seco del brote, peso seco de la raíz, peso seco total, la relación entre el peso de la materia seca del brote y el peso de la materia seca de las raíces, la relación entre la altura del brote y el diámetro del collar, la relación entre el brote y el peso seco de la raíz, y el índice de calidad de Dickson. Los resultados del peso seco total de las plantas de madera de marfil permitieron inferir una influencia positiva de la adición de CRF en Sub 1 (8.3 g planta-1), Sub 2 (8.2 g planta- 1) y Sub 4 (7.3 g planta-1) que muestra un aumento de 72.2 %, 52.4 % y 68.5 % respectivamente, en comparación con Sub 1 (2.3 g planta-1), Sub 2 (3.9 g planta-1) y Sub 3 (2.3 g planta-1) sin adición de CRF. Los sustratos (sub 5) y (sub 1) con adición de CRF están indicados para la producción de plántulas de Agonandra brasiliensis.

Abstract The objective was to investígate the effect of substrate compositions with and without the addition of controlled release fertilizer (CRF) and to determine the correlations between the morphological characteristics of Agonandra brasiliensis. The variables studied were: shoot height, collet diameter, increase of height of shoot and collet diameter, shoot dry weight, root dry weight, total dry weight, the relation between the dry matter weight of the shoot and the dry matter weight of the roots, the relation between shoot height and collet diameter, the relation between shoot and root dry weight, and Dickson quality index. The results of the total dry weight of the ivory-wood plants allowed to infer a positive influence of the addition of CRF in the Sub 1 (8.3 g plant-1), Sub 2 (8.2 g plant-1), and Sub 4 (7.3 g plant-1) showing an increase of 72.2 %, 52.4 %, and 68.5 % respectively, when compared to Sub 1 (2.3 g plant-1), Sub 2 (3.9 g plant-1), and Sub 3 (2.3 g plant-1) without CRF addition. The substrates (sub 5) and (sub 1) with addition of CRF are indicated for the production of seedlings of Agonandra brasiliensis.

Resumo: Objetivou-se estabelecer metodologia para determinar vigor fisiológico em sementes pequenas e grandes de Hymenaea courbaril L. não escarificadas e escarificadas pelo teste de condutividade elétrica e período de imersão em água das sementes visando máxima capacidade de emergência e vigor de plântulas. O delineamento foi inteiramente ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 2 x 2 x 5 (duas classes de massa de sementes, não escarificadas e escarificadas e cinco tempos de imersão em água), com 10 repetições de 10 sementes cada. As variáveis avaliadas foram: condutividade elétrica (μS cm-1.g-1), velocidade de emergência (índice), emergência de plântulas (%) e o tempo médio de emergência (dias), obtidas por meio de contagens diárias até a estabilização nos valores. O máximo vigor de plântulas de Hymenaea courbaril é obtido com sementes grandes escarificadas por seis horas de imersão em água. O teor de água de 18,7% nas sementes grandes de Hymenaea courbaril escarificadas promove a produção de 100% de plântulas vigorosas. Sementes pequenas e grandes de Hymenaea courbaril não escarificadas e escarificadas, imersas por seis horas exibem menor tempo médio para emergência de plântulas. O teor de água de 20,6% nas sementes pequenas de Hymenaea courbaril escarificadas promove 100% de emergência de plântulas. O teste de condutividade elétrica aplicado às sementes de Hymenaea courbaril pode ser adotado para determinação do vigor das sementes, apresentando rapidez na obtenção dos resultados e facilidade de execução.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to establish a methodology to determine physiological vigor in small and large seeds of Hymenaea courbaril L. non-scarified seeds and scarified by the electrical conductivity test and period of seed soaking in water aiming at maximum capacity of emergence and seedling vigor. The design was completely randomized, in a 2 x 2 x 5 factorial scheme (two classes of seed mass, non-scarified seeds and scarified and five periods of soaking in water), with 10 replicates of 10 seeds each. The variables evaluated were electrical conductivity (μS cm-1.g-1), emergence speed (index), seedling emergence (%) and mean time of emergence (days), obtained by means of daily counts until stabilization in the values. Maximum vigor of Hymenaea courbaril seedlings is obtained with large seeds subjected to scarification and soaked in water for six hours. Water content of 18.7% in large seeds of Hymenaea courbaril scarified promotes the production of 100% of vigorous seedlings. Small and large seeds of Hymenaea courbaril non-scarified seeds and scarified, soaked for six hours, had shorter mean time for seedling emergence. Water content of 20.6% in small seeds of Hymenaea courbaril scarified promotes 100% seedling emergence. The electrical conductivity test applied to Hymenaea courbaril seeds can be adopted to determine seed vigor, showing speed in the obtaining of results and ease of execution.

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the initial growth of Agonandra brasiliensis Miers ex Benth. & Hook. F. in response to different levels of shading and doses of controlled-release fertiliser (CRF). The experiment was conducted at Embrapa Roraima in Boa Vista, in a completely randomised experimental design and a 2 x 5 factorial scheme, of two luminosity levels (50 and 30%) and five doses of CRF (formulation 18-05-09, NPK) (0, 0.5, 1, 2 and 3 g L-1 substrate), with five replications, each consisting of five plants. At 240 days after transplanting, the growth characteristics were evaluated, and the influence of the light levels and the CRF dose was recorded on these characteristics, either individually or interactively. It is suggested that plants of Agonandra brasiliensis be fertilised with a dose of 2 g L-1 CRF and grown in an environment with 50% of luminosity to maximize growth and efficiency in the production of high-quality seedlings.

Resumo O objetivo neste trabalho foi determinar aspectos sobre variáveis de crescimento e partição de massa seca das mudas de Khaya senegalensis, bem como a marcha de absorção de nutrientes, em função das épocas e adubação mineral. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 x 6. Dois níveis do fator solução nutritiva (sem e com adição) e seis níveis para o fator período (0; 60; 80; 100; 120 e 140 dias). Foram utilizadas 4 repetições, sendo cada uma delas composta de 10 mudas. Para avaliação da qualidade das mudas, consideraram-se os parâmetros morfológicos, relações e índices de qualidade: altura da parte aérea (H; cm); diâmetro do coleto (DC; mm); massa seca da parte aérea (MSPA; g planta-1); massa seca da raiz (MSR; g planta-1); massa seca total (MST = MSPA + MSR; g planta-1); relação massa seca da parte aérea e massa seca da raiz (MSPA/MSR); índice de robustez (IR= H/DC; cm mm-1); e índice de qualidade de Dickson (IQD) e o acúmulo de macronutrientes na parte aérea e sistemaradicular. A adição de solução é recomendada para mudas de Khaya senegalensis a partir da época 100 dias após o transplantio em viveiro de telado na Amazônia setentrional. A manutenção das mudas de Khaya senegalensis com uso de solução nutritiva proporciona as melhores condições para o aproveitamento dos macronutrientes e permite obter mudas aptas para campo em 140 dias após o transplantio em viveiro de telado em Roraima.

Abstract The objective of this work was to determine aspects about growth variables and dry mass partition of Khaya senegalensis seedlings and the nutrient absorption rate, depending on the seasons and mineral fertilization. The experimental design used was completely randomized, in a 2x6 factorial scheme. Two levels of nutrient solution factor (without addition) and six levels of time factor (0; 60; 80; 100; 120 and 140 days). Four replications were used, each one consisting of 10 seedlings. To evaluate the quality of the seedlings, morphological parameters, relationships and quality indexes were considered: Height (H; cm); collar diameter (CD; mm); shoot dry mass (SDM; g plant-1); dry root mass (DRM; g plant-1); total dry mass (TDM = SDW + RDW; g plant-1); shoot dry mass and root dry mass ratio (SDM/DRM); robustness index (RI = H / DC; cm mm -1); the Dickson quality index (DQI) and the accumulation of macronutrients in the shoots and root system. It is recommended to add solution for seedlings of Khaya senegalensis from 100 days after transplanting in the selected nursery in the Amazon. The maintenance of Khaya senegalensis seedlings with the use of the nutrient solution provides the best conditions for the use of macronutrients and obtaining suitable seedlings for the field in 140 days after transplanting in the selected nursery in Roraima.

RESUMO O mogno africano é uma espécie que vêm se destacando na preferência dos empresários como opção no investimento florestal. Porém, estudos e pesquisas sobre a espécie, principalmente no Brasil, são escassos. O objetivo neste trabalho foi estudar a eficiência de absorção, acúmulo, distribuição e uso de nutrientes em Khaya ivorensis e Khaya senegalensis, além de aspectos relacionados as variáveis de crescimento e de partição de matéria seca em função da adubação mineral. Parâmetros morfológicos, fisiológicos e nutricionais foram determinados nas plantas de mogno africano aos 140 dias após o transplantio (DAT). O maior teor de zinco (Zn) foi detectado nas brotações das plantas de Khaya ivorensis e Khaya senegalensis, representando mais de 50% do total acumulado das plantas com adição de solução nutritiva. A manutenção das plantas de Khaya senegalensis e Khaya ivorensis com o uso de solução nutritiva fornece as melhores condições para o uso de nutrientes, e permite que plantas com excelentes características morfológicas e nutricionais estejam prontas para o campo dentro de cinco meses após o transplantio em viveiro sombreado. A absorção, transporte e uso mais eficientes de macro e micronutrientes são encontrados na espécie Khaya senegalensis com a adição de solução nutritiva.

ABSTRACT African mahogany is a species preferred by many entrepreneurs as an investment in the forestry sector. However, there are few studies or research on the species, especially in Brazil. The aim of this work was to study the efficiency of nutrient uptake, accumulation, distribution and use in Khaya ivorensis and Khaya senegalensis, in addition to aspects of growth variables and of dry matter partitioning as a function of mineral fertilisation. Morphological, physiological and nutritional parameters were determined in the African mahogany plants 140 days after transplanting (DAT). The greatest zinc (Zn) content was detected in the shoots of both the Khaya ivorensis and Khaya senegalensis plants, accounting for more than 50% of the accumulated total of the plants with added nutrient solution. Maintaining the plants of Khaya senegalensis and Khaya ivorensis with the use of nutrient solution provides the best conditions for nutrient use, and allows plants with excellent morphological and nutritional characteristics to be ready for the field within five months after transplanting in a shaded nursery. The most efficient uptake, transport and use of macro and micronutrients is found in the species Khaya senegalensis with the addition of nutrient solution.

RESUMO Agonandra brasiliensis é uma árvore de florestas tropicais, com ampla ocorrência na região do Cerrrado brasileiro. Apesar do seu potencial como madeira e para reflorestamento, eficientes protocolos para a produção de mudas ainda estão em falta. Objetivou-se avaliar características morfológicas para a qualidade de mudas de A. brasiliensis, em condições de viveiro, em função do volume do recipiente e dose de fertilizante de liberação controlada. O experimento foi realizado em esquema fatorial 2 x 5, testando-se dois volumes (1,8 L e 2,2 L) de recipiente e cinco doses (0 g L-1, 1 g L-1, 2 g L-1, 4 g L-1 e 8 g L-1) do fertilizante encapsulado Forth Cote® (formulação NPK 15-09-12). As parcelas constituíram-se de cinco mudas homogêneas transplantadas em sacos de polietileno (15 cm x 35 cm) com substrato de areia média lavada. As seguintes características foram mensuradas: comprimento da parte aérea; diâmetro do caule; incrementos em comprimento e diâmetro; matéria seca total; matéria seca da parte aérea e da raiz e a razão entre elas. Também foi determinado o Índice de Qualidade de Dickson. A qualidade das mudas para caracteres morfológicos como comprimento da parte aérea, diâmetro de caule e matéria seca total foi especialmente favorecida por tratamentos que combinaram o fertilizante de liberação controlada em dose aproximada de 5,0 g L-1 e recipiente com volume de 2,2 L.

ABSTRACT Agonandra brasiliensis is a tree from tropical forests, with a wide occurrence in the Brazilian Savannah region. Despite its potential as wood and for reforestarion, efficient protocols for its seedling production are still lacking. This study aimed to assess morphological characteristics for the seedling quality of A. brasiliensis, under nursery conditions, as a function of container volume and controlled-release fertilizer dose. The experiment was carried out in a 2 x 5 factorial scheme, testing two container volumes (1.8 L and 2.2 L) and five doses (0 g L-1, 1 g L-1, 2 g L-1, 4 g L-1 and 8 g L-1) of the encapsulated fertilizer Forth Cote™ (formulation NPK 15-09-12). The plots consisted of five homogeneous seedlings transplanted in polyethylene bags (15 cm x 35 cm) with washed medium sand substrate. The following characteristics were measured: shoot length; stem diameter; increases in length and diameter; total dry matter; shoot and root dry matters and the ratio between them. The Dickson Quality Index was also obtained. The seedling quality for morphological traits, such as shoot length, stem diameter and total dry matter, was especially favoured by treatments combining the controlled-release fertilizer at a dose around 5.0 g L-1 and container volume of 2.2 L.

O arroz (Oryza sativa L.) é uma das culturas mais cultivadas no mundo e uma das primeiras espécies de culturas domesticadas. Além disso, o seu consumo representa cerca de 20% da ingestão calórica do mundo. Objetivou-se neste estudo avaliar a relação entre a qualidade de moagem e a qualidade fisiológica de sementes de arroz durante o armazenamento. Foram realizados dois ensaios com sementes de 3 cultivares de arroz comum tipo longo-fino e 3 cultivares especiais de arroz. As avaliações de armazenamento foram realizadas aos 0, 30, 60, 90 e 120 dias. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado com fatorial 3 x 5 (cultivares x armazenamento) para cada ensaio, com quatro repetições. Os testes realizados foram: qualidade de moagem, peso de mil sementes, germinação, primeira contagem de germinação e condutividade elétrica. As cultivares especiais de arroz ‘BRS 358’ e ´Jasmine’, bem como as cultivares comuns de arroz, ‘Sinuelo’ e ‘Jaçanã’, apresentam maior potencial para qualidade fisiológica e qualidade de moagem. A qualidade física do processo de moagem está vinculada à qualidade fisiológica das sementes da seis cultivares de arroz testadas.

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of the most widely grown crops in the world and one of the earliest domesticated crop species. Also, its consumption is around 20% of the world’s caloric intake. It was aimed in this study to evaluate the relation between milled rice yield and physiological quality of rice seeds during storage. Two experiments were carried out with seeds of long-fine common rice and special rice cultivars. The storage evaluations were made at 0, 30, 60, 90 and 120 days. The experimental design was completely randomized with 3 x 5 factorial (cultivars x storage) for each experiment, with four replicates. The performed tests were: Milled rice yield, weight of one thousand seeds, germination, first count of germination and electrical conductivity. The special rice cultivars ‘BRS 358’ and ´Jasmine’, as well as the common rice cultivars ‘Sinuelo’ and ‘Jaçanã’, have greater potential for seed physiological quality and milled rice yield. The physical quality for milling process is linked to the physiological quality of the six cultivars tested.

RESUMO A Bowdichia virgilioides Kunth., conhecida popularmente como paricarana, é uma espécie com potencial econômico paisagístico, madeireiro e para a recuperação de áreas degradadas. Objetivou-se com este trabalho a caracterização física de sementes de paricarana com diferentes cores do tegumento provenientes de 12 matrizes, utilizando técnicas de análise de imagem, além de verificar a eficiência do tratamento de superação de dormência aplicado às sementes para determinar a qualidade fisiológica. As sementes de 12 matrizes de paricarana foram classificadas em cor laranja e vermelha manualmente e com auxílio do aparelho e software Groundeye®. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, em arranjo fatorial 12 x 2 (matrizes x cores) com quatro repetições. Foram avaliadas a morfometria das sementes e plântulas, raios-x, germinação, velocidade de sementes embebidas, velocidade de germinação e microscopia eletrônica de varredura das sementes. Para o teste de germinação realizou-se o tratamento de superação de dormência das sementes com água a 100°C por 10 segundos, e para controle de patógenos, hipoclorito de sódio a 2% por cinco minutos. As técnicas utilizadas para caracterização física das sementes de cor laranja e vermelha das 12 matrizes de paricarana são eficientes. As sementes de paricarana de cor laranja apresentam melhor qualidade física e fisiológica. O tratamento com água a 100°C por 10 segundos mais cinco minutos de imersão em hipoclorito a 2% é eficiente na superação de dormência, e controle de patógenos das sementes de cor laranja e vermelha das 12 matrizes de paricarana.

ABSTRACT The Bowdichia virgilioides Kunth, popularly known as paricarana, have economic potential for landscaping, timber, and reforestation. The objective of this work was physical characterization of paricarana seeds from 12 matrices with different seed coat coloration, using image analysis techniques, and also evaluation of scarification treatment efficiency to determinate the seed physiological quality. The paricarana seeds of 12 matrices were classified in two colors, orange and red, manually and with the assistance of Groundeye® hardware/software. The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial arrangement of 12 x 2 (matrices x colors) with four replications. The evaluations were: morphometry of the seed and seedling, x - rays, germination, speed of soaked seed, rate of germination and the electron microscopy seed scanning. In the germination test a scarification with water at 100°C for 10 seconds plus 5 minutes in hypochlorite 2% were made in the seeds to overcoming dormancy and for pathogens control. The techniques used to characterizing the physical quality of the orange and red seeds of paricarana from 12 matrices are efficient. The orange seeds of paricarana have better physical and physiological quality. Treatment with water at 100°C for 10 seconds plus 5 minutes immersion in hypochlorite 2% are efficient in breaking dormancy of orange and red seeds from the 12 matrices of paricarana.

Resumo: Com a expansão da produção de açaí, os cuidados com o manejo das sementes utilizadas para replantio ou aumento de área de cultivo se tornaram importantes. Objetivou-se avaliar o desempenho de sementes de açaí com diferentes teores de água e armazenadas com e sem tratamento fungicida por 180 dias. As sementes de açaí foram separadas por graus de umidade (35%, 30% e 20%) e tratadas ou não com fungicida, com quatro épocas de avaliação do armazenamento (0, 60, 120 e 180 dias) em ambiente natural. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente ao acaso, com arranjo fatorial 3 x 2 x 4 (graus de umidade x com e sem fungicida x épocas de avaliação), com quatro repetições de 50 sementes. As sementes foram avaliadas quanto ao grau de umidade, germinação, teste de tetrazólio, emergência de plântulas, velocidade de emergência de plântulas e raio-X. As sementes de açaí com 30% e 35% de grau de umidade tratadas com fungicida tiveram melhor qualidade fisiológica em relação às sementes sem tratamento fungicida. O armazenamento com duração superior a 120 dias reduziu a germinação das sementes para valores abaixo de 50%, independentemente de estarem com ou sem fungicida, porém a redução foi maior para as sementes sem tratamento fungicida. O tratamento com fungicida é eficiente no controle de fungos até 180 dias de armazenamento, para as sementes de açaí com 30% e 20% de grau de umidade, e até 60 dias, para as sementes com 35% de grau de umidade.

Abstract: The expansion of açai production has increased the importance of management of seeds used for replanting or expanding the plantation areas. Thus, the aim of this work was to evaluate the performance of açai seeds with different moisture contents, treated or untreated with fungicide, and stored for 180 days. The seeds were divided into three moisture levels (35%, 30% and 20%), and with or without fungicide treatment, with four storage evaluation periods (0, 60, 120 and 180 days). They were packed in plastic bags and kept in natural environment. The experimental design was completely randomized, with a 3 x 2 x 4 factorial scheme (moisture contents x treated or untreated with fungicide x period of evaluation), with four replications of 50 seeds each. The following tests were conducted: moisture content, germination, tetrazolium test, seedling emergence, seedling emergence speed and X-ray. Açai seeds with 35% and 30% moisture contents treated with fungicide showed a better physiological quality in relation to the untreated ones. Storage longer than 120 days reduced seed germination to values below 50%, regardless of whether they were treated or not with fungicide, although the reduction was greater in untreated seeds. The fungicide treatment is efficient in controlling fungi in açai seeds with 30% and 20% moisture content for up to 180 days of storage, and in seeds with 35% moisture content for up to 60 days of storage.

Resumo: Objetivou-se avaliar o potencial germinativo de sementes de oito porta-enxertos de pessegueiro, sob diferentes métodos de estratificação, visando à produção de seedlings com alta qualidade. No primeiro experimento, sementes com endocarpo de oito genótipos de pessegueiros (‘Aldrighi’, ‘Capdeboscq’, ‘Flordaguard’, ‘Okinawa’, ‘Okinawa roxo’, ‘Tsukuba 1’, ‘Tsukuba 2’, ‘Tsukuba 3’) foram estratificadas em areia e vermiculita úmida, à 7 ºC por 60 dias. No segundo experimento, sementes sem endocarpo foram estratificadas em placas de Petri, à 7 ºC. No terceiro experimento avaliou-se o tempo em que pelo menos 75% dos seedlings atingissem o ponto de transplantio (15 cm de altura). O endocarpo revelou ser uma barreira limitante na germinação das sementes dos oito porta-enxertos, pois as maiores porcentagens de germinação foram 21% e 48,3%, para ‘Aldrighi’ e ‘Capdeboscq’, respectivamente. A germinação de ‘Okinawa’ foi de apenas 19,2% e 4,2%, em areia e vermiculita, respectivamente. Sementes estratificadas sem o endocarpo, apresentaram 100% de germinação, exceto para ‘Flordaguard’, ‘Tsukuba 2’ e 3’, com 93% de germinação. Verificou-se correlação positiva da massa de sementes com o índice de velocidade de germinação e o crescimento inicial dos seedlings. ‘Aldrighi’ e ‘Capdeboscq’ apresentam seedlings mais vigorosos, com maior crescimento em altura, diâmetro do caule e índice de qualidade Dickson.

Abstract: The present study evaluated the germination potential of seeds from eight peach tree rootstocks under different stratification methods, aiming at the production of high quality seedlings. In the first experiment, seeds with endocarp from eight genotypes (‘Aldrighi’, ‘Capdeboscq’, ‘Flordaguard’, ‘Okinawa’, ‘Okinawa roxo’, ‘Tsukuba 1’, ‘Tsukuba 2’, ‘Tsukuba 3’) were stratified on sand and moist vermiculite, at 7 ºC for 60 days. In the second experiment, endocarpless seeds of the same genotypes were stratified on Petri dishes at 7 ºC. In the third experiment, the time at which at least 75% of the seedlings reached transplanting height (15 cm high) was verified. The endocarp was a limiting factor for seed germination of the eight rootstocks, since the highest germination percentages were 21% and 48.3% for ‘Aldrighi’ and ‘Capdeboscq’, respectively. Germination of ‘Okinawa’ was only 19.2% and 4.2%, in sand and vermiculite, respectively. Seeds stratified without the endocarp, showed 100% germination, except for ‘Flordaguard’ and ‘Tsukuba 2’ and 3’, with 93% germination. Seed mass presented a positive correlation with the germination speed index and the initial growth of the seedlings. ‘Aldrighi’ and ‘Capdeboscq’ presented more vigorous seedlings with greater growth in height, stem diameter, and Dickson quality index.
