ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Presenteeism refers to the presence of a worker at work with reduced performance due to illness, and it is a common public health problem. Exposure to noise during production processes brings risk to workers’ health. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the health profile of workers in the automotive industry and identify the association between noise perception and presenteeism among workers in the Brazilian automotive industry. DESIGN AND SETTING: This was a cross-sectional study utilizing a case study design analyzing the automotive industry in the interior of São Paulo state, Brazil. METHODS: This study included 306 workers using the Presenteeism Work Limitations Questionnaire protocol. Multiple logistic regression was used for data analysis. RESULTS: Male workers with reports of headache, tension, and limited well-being at work, having perceived that noise exposure interferes with productivity, showed a positive association with the occurrence of presenteeism. Physical demand had the highest score in terms of interfering with the presenteeism index. CONCLUSION: Workers’ perceptions of noise were associated with presenteeism.

Resumo: O presente texto propõe iniciar um debate a partir da teoria social de Marx em torno das potencialidades e limites da agroecologia e da técnica agroflorestal, em especial aquela influenciada pelos princípios do suíço Ernst Götsch, que encontra grande ressonância no Brasil. É, também, uma tentativa de trazer para o Serviço Social debates externos, cujo matiz teórico-metodológico da profissão, crítico e de raiz marxiana, enseja sobre perspectivas tecnicistas da sociedade. A contradição entre relações técnicas e relações sociais é tratada aqui como um canal para dialogar sobre o quanto as relações técnicas estão subsumidas à forma social do capital. Intenta-se demonstrar que tal subsunção ocorre também com as técnicas agroecológicas e agroflorestais, funcionando como uma barreira a seu espraiamento e colocando em xeque o sistema social do capital, que não consegue atender à demanda social por alimentação saudável para todos.

Abstract: The present text proposes to initiate a debate based on Marx's social theory about the potential and limits of agroecology and agroforestry techniques, especially those influenced by the principles of the Swiss Ernst Götsch, which has great resonance in Brazil. It is also an attempt to bring to Social Service external debates, whose theoretical-methodological, critical and Marxian roots hue of the profession, enlightens over technicist perspectives of society. The contradiction between technical relations and social relations is treated here as a channel to discuss how much technical relations are subsumed to the social form of capital. It is intended to demonstrate that such subsumption also occurs with agroecological and agroforestry techniques, acting as a barrier to their spread and putting in check the social system of capital, which fails to meet the social demand for healthy food for all.

Resumo O presente trabalho visa a analisar, a partir dos pressupostos teóricos e metodológicos da Análise de Discurso materialista (PÊCHEUX, [1969] 2019; [1975] 2009), o modo como o espaço é significado através de práticas discursivas concernentes à pandemia de Covid-19: peças publicitárias estatais e o termômetro infravermelho. Compreende-se, desta forma, que há o funcionamento de dois modelos de gestão do espaço: o cenário do drama, relacionado ao poder disciplinar e à biopolítica (FOUCAULT, [1975] 2010; [1978] 2008); e a zona de guerra, relacionada à sociedade de controle (DELEUZE, 1992) e à necropolítica (MBEMBE, 2018). Observa-se ainda que a regulação do espaço, no âmbito do combate à pandemia, é diferenciada em relação às categorias de classe, sexo, gênero e raça.

Abstract From the theoretical and methodological perspective of the Materialistic Discourse Analysis (PÊCHEUX, [1969] 2019; [1975] 2009), this article aims to analyze how the space is signified through discursive practices concerning the Covid-19 pandemic: the State advertising and the infrared thermometer. This way, we comprehend that there are two models of space management: the drama setting, related to disciplinary power and biopolitics (FOUCAULT, [1975] 2010; [1978] 2008); and the war zone, related to the society of control (DELEUZE, 1992) and to the necropolitics (MBEMBE, 2018). In addition, it is possible to observe that space regulation, in the context of fighting the pandemic, has a differential in relation to the categories of class, sex, gender, and race.

Resumen Ese trabajo tiene el objetivo de analizar, desde los supuestos teóricos y metodológicos del Análisis del Discurso materialista (PÊCHEUX, [1969] 2019; [1975] 2009), el modo como el espacio es significado a través de prácticas discursivas concernientes con la pandemia de Covid-19: piezas publicitarias estatales y el termómetro infrarrojo. De esa manera, se comprende que hay funcionamiento de dos modelos de gestión del espacio: el escenario del drama, relacionado con el poder disciplinario y con la biopolítica (FOUCAULT, [1975] 2010; [1978] 2008); y la zona de guerra, relacionada con la sociedad de control (DELEUZE, 1992) y con la necropolítica (MBEMBE, 2018). Aún se observa que regulación del espacio, en el ámbito del combate a la pandemia, es diferenciada en relación con categorías de clase, sexo, género y raza.

Resumo Algumas recomendações normativas são conservadoras em relação à resistência ao cisalhamento de vigas de concreto armado, não levando diretamente em consideração a taxa de armadura longitudinal. Assim, foi realizado um experimento contendo 8 vigas de (100 x 250) mm2 e comprimento de 1.200 mm, com concreto de resistência à compressão de 20 MPa com e sem adição de 1,00% de fibra de aço, sem estribos e variando-se a taxa de armadura de flexão. As capacidades de cisalhamento experimentais em comparação com as estimativas das principais normas foram analisadas. Os resultados mostraram que o aumento da taxa de armadura longitudinal de 0,87% para 2,14% em vigas sem fibra de aço levou a uma melhoria de 59% na resistência ao cisalhamento causada pelo efeito de pino, enquanto a melhoria correspondente foi de apenas 22% em vigas de concreto fibroso. Um ganho máximo de 109% na resistência ao cisalhamento foi observado com a adição de 1% de fibras de aço comparando vigas com a mesma taxa de armadura longitudinal (1,2%). Uma quantidade significativa de resistência ao cisalhamento foi fornecida pela inclusão das fibras de aço e permitiu controlar a propagação de fissuras pelo efeito de pontes de transferência de tensão, transformando o mecanismo de cisalhamento frágil em um mecanismo de flexão dúctil. Assim, fica claro o benefício da adição de fibra de aço para o cisalhamento quando associada à armadura longitudinal e valores ótimos para essa relação podem melhorar os resultados.

Abstract Some normative recommendations are conservative in relation to the shear strength of reinforced concrete beams, not directly considering the longitudinal reinforcement rate. An experimental program containing 8 beams of (100 x 250) mm2 and a length of 1,200 mm was carried out. The concrete compression strength was 20 MPa with and without 1.00% of steel fiber addition, without stirrups and varying the longitudinal reinforcement ratio. Comparisons between experimental failure loads and main design codes estimates were assessed. The results showed that the increase of the longitudinal reinforcement ratio from 0.87% to 2.14% in beams without steel fiber led to an improvement of 59% in shear strength caused by the dowel effect, while the corresponding improvement was of only 22% in fibered concrete beams. A maximum gain of 109% in shear strength was observed with the addition of 1% of steel fibers comparing beams with the same longitudinal reinforcement ratio (1.2%). A significant amount of shear strength was provided by the inclusion of the steel fibers and allowed controlling the propagation of cracks by the effect of stress transfer bridges, transforming the brittle shear mechanism into a ductile flexural one. From this, it is clear the shear benefit of the steel fiber addition when associated to the longitudinal reinforcement and optimal values for this relationship would improve results.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Occupational accidents are a complex phenomenon and a major public health problem. Occupational health surveillance actions are essential for prevention of injuries of this nature. OBJECTIVE: To ascertain the prevalence of and the variables associated with occupational accidents in the city of Itajubá (MG). DESIGN AND SETTING: A cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, based on a household survey with random sampling, was conducted in areas covered by the Family Health Strategy (FHS) in Itajubá (MG). METHODS: Questionnaires were applied to 292 people. The data were analyzed by means of logistic regression. RESULTS: The prevalence of occupational accidents was 8.6%. The underreporting rate was 60.0%. The scenario for these accidents, according to the model established through the regression analysis, was most likely to involve males who declared their skin color as white and who did not have a formal employment contract. CONCLUSION: This study makes a contribution towards unveiling the relationship between healthcare and work, and thus serve as support for the development of strategies to prevent underreporting. Lastly, the results provide the basis for future public health intervention actions and for future studies.

ABSTRACT Purpose: investigate the association of noise exposure with the occurrence of systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) among public school female teachers. Methods: a cross-sectional, descriptive and observational study was conducted. A questionnaire elaborated by the researchers was applied to a random sample of 133 female teachers. Noise exposure dosimetry was used among the sample subjects. The non-conditional logistic regression technique was applied to identify significant variables and control confounding variables for the occurrence of SAH. Results: the prevalence of hypertension found, in teachers, in this study, was 17.3%. However, the association between occupational noise exposure and the occurrence of hypertension was not verified. It was observed that smoking is a very relevant risk factor for hypertension, while the physical effort performed at work appeared as a protection factor. Conclusion: although the variable "noise exposure dose" was not significant in the final model, it was found that the exposure values were above the limits, justifying the adoption of preventive measures.

Resumo Os efeitos adversos das mudanças climáticas devem atingir o trabalho ao ar livre. Por esse motivo, o objetivo deste estudo é avaliar esses efeitos comparando-se a capacidade de trabalho na América do Sul entre clima presente (1979 a 2005) e o futuro (2071 - 2100). O estresse térmico foi estimado por meio do Environmental Stress Index (ESI), com base em variáveis atmosféricas provenientes das projeções climáticas do IPCC. Os resultados indicam que, mesmo em cenários climáticos favoráveis, a capacidade de trabalho pesado deve ser reduzida entre 25 a 50% no final do século XXI em praticamente toda a América do Sul, principalmente na região Amazônica, partes do norte e nordeste brasileiros, além de extensas regiões do Paraguai ao Suriname. Assim, cenários pessimistas, com intensificação do efeito estufa, podem implicar em falta de condições ambientais e físicas para trabalhos dessa natureza em horários atualmente comuns para a atividade laboral.

Abstract The adverse effects of climate change may affect work conducted outdoors. For this reason, this study seeks to evaluate these effects by comparing South American work capacity under climate conditions between 1979 and 2005, as well as expected future climate scenarios from 2071 to 2100. Thermal stress was estimated using the Environmental Stress Index (ESI), based on atmospheric variables for climate projections from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The results indicate that, even in favorable climate scenarios, outdoor manual labor capacity will be reduced by 25 to 50% by the end of the 21st century in basically all of South America, especially in the Amazonian regions, parts of the north and northeast of Brazil, and in vast regions from Paraguay to Suriname. There is an overall pessimistic outlook with respect to outdoor working conditions during common labor hours due to increases in the greenhouse effect.

Resumen Los efectos adversos del cambio climático deberían afectar el trabajo al aire libre. Por esta razón, el propósito de este estudio es evaluar estos efectos comparando la capacidad de trabajo en América del Sur entre el clima actual (1979 a 2005) y el futuro (2071 - 2100). El estrés térmico se estimó utilizando el Índice de Estrés Ambiental (ESI), basado en variables atmosféricas de las proyecciones climáticas del IPCC. Los resultados indican que, incluso en escenarios climáticos favorables, la capacidad de servicio pesado deberá reducirse entre un 25 y un 50% para fines del siglo XXI en prácticamente toda Sudamérica, especialmente en la región amazónica, partes del norte y noreste de Brasil, y desde extensas regiones desde Paraguay hasta el Surinam. Por lo tanto, los escenarios pesimistas, con la intensificación del efecto invernadero, pueden implicar una falta de condiciones ambientales y físicas para el trabajo de esta naturaleza en las horas de trabajo habituales actualmente.

RESUMO Este estudo investigou a associação entre ruído e qualidade prejudicada do sono em 150 instrutores de educação física, em academias de musculação. Dois questionários foram aplicados: avaliação da qualidade subjetiva do sono e sobre variáveis explanatórias. A exposição ao ruído foi avaliada. Para a análise dos dados, utilizou-se a técnica de regressão logística não-condicional, para obter os valores das Razões de Chances (RC) das variáveis significativas. Dois modelos finais se destacaram. O primeiro apresentou as variáveis significativas: realização incorreta das refeições (RC = 2,58, IC 95% 1,08 a 6,02); cor da pele - preta ou parda (RC = 0,53; IC 95% 0,25 a 1,12) e exposição ao ruído acima ou igual a 80 dB(A) (RC = 1,90; IC95% 0,87 a 4,12). O segundo modelo apresentou as variáveis significativas: realização incorreta das refeições (RC = 2,35, IC 95% 0,1 a 5,56); nível de exposição padronizado acima ou igual a 80 dB (A) (RC = 2,03, IC 95% 0,92 a 4,47) e uso de medicamentos para depressão/ansiedade (RC = 0,26; IC95% 0,53 a 1,33). Esta pesquisa identificou as variáveis que se associaram significativamente com a qualidade do sono prejudicada, como a exposição ao ruído, contribuindo para a adoção de medidas preventivas.

ABSTRACT This study ivestigated the association between noise and impaired sleep quality in 150 physical education instructors, in bodybuilding gyms. Two questionnaires were applied: evaluation of subjective sleep quality and analysis of explanatory variables. Noise exposure was analyzed. For the data analysis, was used the technique of non-conditional logistic regression, to obtain the values of the adjusted odds ratios (OR) of the significant variables. Two proper adjustment models stood out. The first model presented the significant variables: incorrect performance of the meals (OR = 2.58, 95% CI 1.08 to 6.02); skin color - black ou brown (OR = 0.53, 95% CI 0.25 to 1.12) and exposure to noise level above or equal to 80 dB(A) (OR = 1.90; 95% CI 0.87 to 4.12). The second model presented the significant variables: incorrect performance of the meals (OR = 2.35, 95% CI 0.1 to 5.56); exposure level standardized above or equal to 80 dB(A) (OR = 2.03, 95% CI 0.92 to 4.47) and use 0of drugs for depression/anxiety (OR = 0.26; 95% CI 0.53 to 1.33). This research identified the variables that were significantly associated with impaired sleep quality, as exposure to noise, contributing to the adoption of preventive measures.

Resumo Atualmente, no Brasil, para a avaliação da Acurácia Posicional de feições não pontuais (linhas e polígonos), não existe uma norma padrão de execução. Este trabalho tem como objetivo comparar os resultados de dois métodos que permitem determinar o valor médio das discrepâncias entre as feições lineares. O primeiro, Método do Retângulo Equivalente, visa determinar a discrepância considerando um retângulo equivalente para o polígono obtido a partir de duas linhas homólogas. O segundo, Método do Buffer Duplo, aplica um buffer nas duas linhas e obtém o valor de discrepância média baseado na relação das áreas dos polígonos gerados. A comparação dos métodos foi realizada em duas etapas. Inicialmente, foi realizada uma experimentação com feições de medidas conhecidas, onde o deslocamento das linhas homólogas foi controlado em azimute e distância. Nessa etapa verificou-se que a forma da feição e a direção do deslocamento interferem nos resultados de ambos os métodos se comparado ao procedimento tradicional de medição de discrepâncias por pontos homólogos. Na segunda etapa, foram avaliados os dados vetoriais do OpenStreetMap (classe de rodovias), tendo por referência um conjunto de dados vetoriais (classe trecho rodoviário e arruamento) produzido para o Mapeamento do Estado da Bahia. Como resultado, para as escalas 1:25.000, 1:50.000, 1:100.000 e 1:250.000, foram obtidos, respectivamente, pelo Método do Retângulo Equivalente PEC-PCD “C”, “B”, “A” e “A” e pelo Método do Buffer Duplo PEC-PCD “R”, “C”, “B” e “A”, onde “R” significa que não obteve a classificação mínima do PEC-PCD.

Abstract Currently, in Brazil, for the assessment of the Positional Accuracy of non-point features (lines and polygons), there is no standard norm of execution. This work aims to compare the results of two methodologies that allow determining the average value of the discrepancies between linear features. The first, Equivalent Rectangle Method, aims to determine the discrepancy by considering an equivalent rectangle for the polygon obtained from the two homologous lines. The second, Double Buffer Method applies a buffer on both lines and obtains the average discrepancy value based on the relation of the areas of the generated polygons. These methods were compared in two steps. Initially, an experiment was performed with features of known measurements, where the displacement of the homologous lines was controlled in azimuth and distance. In this step, it was verified that the shape of the feature and the direction of the displacement interfere in the results of both methods when compared to the traditional procedure of measurement of discrepancies by homologous points. In the second stage, we evaluated the vector data of the OpenStreetMap (class of roads), with reference to a more accurate vector dataset produced for the Mapping of the State of Bahia. As a result, for the 1:25,000, 1:50,000, 1:100,000 and 1:250,000 scales, it was obtained, respectively, the PEC-PCD for the Equivalent Rectangle Method "C", "B", "A" and "A" and the PEC-PCD for the Double Buffer Method "R", "C", "B" and "A", where "R" means that it has not achieved the minimum PEC-PCD classification.

RESUMO JUSTIFICATIVA E OBJETIVOS: As lesões musculoesqueléticas decorrentes do processo e da organização do trabalho são relevantes na relação saúde e trabalho. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar a prevalência de queixas osteomusculares e os fatores associados entre trabalhadores de confecção de artefatos de couro. MÉTODOS: Estudo transversal, pelo qual os dados foram obtidos por meio de questionários autoaplicados a 320 trabalhadores distribuídos em 13 fábricas do município de Cristina, MG, entre os meses de fevereiro e março de 2011. O questionário nórdico de sintomas osteomusculares foi empregado para mensurar a prevalência de queixas nas diferentes regiões do corpo. Foi realizada uma análise descritiva sobre o perfil sócio-demográfico da população do estudo. Utilizou-se de regressão logística multivariada para descrever a associação entre a variável dependente, queixa osteomuscular, e o conjunto de variáveis explanatórias, com o cálculo das razões de chances ajustadas. Utilizou-se regressão logística, com cálculo das razões de chances ajustadas. RESULTADOS: O estudo compreendeu 138 trabalhadores. O modelo multivariado mais bem ajustado, após o controle das variáveis de confusão, foi para dor nos joelhos, com prevalência de 40,0% entre os homens e de 24,1% entre as mulheres. Os setores de costura e acabamento se comportaram como "proteção", ou seja, de menor chance de dor, quando comparado ao setor de corte. A idade apresentou uma associação negativa, ou seja, à medida que ela se eleva, menor a chance de dor. Em outro modelo ajustado, para dor nos ombros, as trabalhadoras e a extensão do tempo no cargo apresentaram maior chance de dor. CONCLUSÃO: Foram reveladas prevalências de queixas superiores às encontradas na literatura. Variáveis significativas foram identificadas, que podem subsidiar a prevenção de sofrimento no trabalho, como por exemplo, dor nos joelhos. São necessários estudos posteriores, com a inclusão de outras variáveis e outros desenhos para a redução de vieses.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Musculoskeletal injuries induced by labor process and organization are relevant for health/labor relationship. This study aimed at investigating the prevalence of musculoskeletal complaints and associated factors among leather products manufacturers. METHODS: Cross-sectional study where data were obtained by means of self-applied questionnaires to 320 workers distributed among 13 plants of the city of Cristina, MG, between February and March 2011. Nordic questionnaire of musculoskeletal symptoms was applied to measure the prevalence of complaints in different body regions. A descriptive analysis was carried out on the socio-demographic profile of the studied population. Multivariate logistic regression was used to describe the association between dependent variable, musculoskeletal complaint and the set of explanatory variables, with adjusted odds ratio calculation. Logistic regression was used with adjusted odds ratio calculation. RESULTS: The study involved 138 workers. Better adjusted multivariate model after confusion variables control was for knee pain, with prevalence of 40.0% among males and 24.1% among females. Sewing and finishing sectors behaved as "protection", that is, less chance for pain as compared to the cutting sector. Age had negative association, that is, the higher the age the lower the chance of pain. In a different adjusted model for shoulder pain, workers and time working on the job showed higher chance of pain. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of complaints was higher than that found in the literature. Significant variables were identified which may subsidize the prevention of job distress, such as knee pain. Further studies are needed with the inclusion of other variables and other designs to minimize biases.

Resumo Introdução: A maioria das doenças ocupacionais não se enquadra no paradigma médico de interpretação do processo saúde-doença baseado na causalidade linear, em que seria possível encontrar uma causa única para cada tipo de doença. Objetivo: Empreender uma revisão sistemática para investigar a associação entre vibração de corpo inteiro (VCI) e desordens musculoesqueléticas (MED) em motoristas profissionais de caminhão (PTD). Métodos: Foram utilizadas as bases de dados científicas PubMed, Cochrane, LILACS e SciELO para coletar os artigos considerando publicações de 2000 aos dias atuais. Foram aplicados critérios de inclusão e avaliação da qualidade metodológica dos artigos selecionados por dois revisores independentes. Resultados: Nove artigos foram incluídos para identificar análises de associação entre VCI e MED em PTD. Os resultados demonstram que as MED parecem estar intimamente associadas à exposição à VCI nesses trabalhadores, principalmente devido à alta prevalência de dor lombar e sintomas decorrentes dessa afecção. Dois estudos de coorte apontaram a exposição à VCI como risco para MED. Somente um, com desenho caso - controle, não observou a exposição à VCI como significante. Conclusões: Este estudo elucidou a importância da análise da exposição à VCI na ocorrência de MED em PTD. Há informação adequada para dar razão à redução da exposição à VCI ao nível mais baixo possível, para assegurar as condições de saúde desses trabalhadores. Estudos com maior poder de investigação, como os prospectivos, devem ser estimulados, superando aqueles apenas de associação.

Abstract Background: Most occupational diseases do not fit the paradigm of medical interpretation of the health-disease process based on linear causality, in which it would be possible to find a single cause for each type of disease. Objectives: to conduct a systematic review in order to investigate the association between whole-body vibration (WBV) and musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) in professional truck drivers (PTD). Methods: The scientific databases of PubMed, Cochrane, Lilacs and Scielo were used to collect articles published from 2000 until the present time. Two independent reviewers adopted inclusion and quality criteria to evaluate the selected articles. Results: From adopted inclusion and quality criteria, nine articles were chosen to identify the association between MSD and WBV in PTD. The results showed that MSD seems to be closely associated to exposure to WBV in these workers, mainly due to high prevalence and symptoms of low back pain. Two cohort studies showed exposure to WBV as risk for MSD. Only one, with case-control design, did not show WBV as a significant factor. Conclusions: In this study the importance of exposure analysis of WBV in the occurrence of MSD in PTD was elucidated. This study showed the importance of WBV exposure analysis on the occurrence of MSD in PTD. There is adequate information to provide rationale for the reduction of WBV exposure to the lowest possible level, to ensure the health of these workers. Studies with a greater power of investigation, of a prospective, design, should be encouraged, supplanting those only of association.

ResumoA vibração de corpo-inteiro (VCI) está presente em diversos veículos, incluindo os ônibus urbanos. A exposição excessiva está associada ao risco de distúrbios na região lombar. Este estudo objetivou avaliar a exposição de condutores e passageiros à VCI. Foi empregada a ISO-2631-1997 como norma de referência para avaliação, e nos limites ocupacionais da Diretiva Europeia (2002). Observou-se superação do nível de ação, segundo o método básico, nos três eixos, tanto para o cobrador como para o motorista do ônibus. A superação do nível limite, segundo método da quarta potência, ocorreu no eixo z, para cobrador e motorista, com valores de VDV de 36,28 ms-1,75 e de 39,71 ms-1,75, respectivamente. Para a realidade do passageiro, a situação no assento frontal do veículo, o valor observado da exposição à VCI, pelo método básico, foi considerado "um pouco desconfortável", enquanto que para o sentado na seção central, foi classificada como "desconfortável". Os valores médios das magnitudes de vibração, no método básico, eixo z, encontrados nos assentos dos passageiros e dos condutores são similares, sugerindo que o amortecimento do assento destes é inadequado. Os condutores estão expostos a níveis acima dos limites recomendados, e os passageiros têm viajado em situação desconfortável.

AbstractThe whole-body vibration (WBV) is present in several vehicles, including city buses. Excessive exposure is associated with the risk of disorders in the lower back. This study aimed to evaluate the exposure of drivers and passengers to the VCI. It was used the ISO-2631-1997 as a reference standard for evaluation, and the occupational limits of European Directive (2002). There was overcoming the level of action, according to the basic method, the three axes for both the collector and to the bus driver. Overcoming the threshold level, second the method of the fourth power, occurred on the z axis, to collector and driver, with VDV values of 36.28 ms-1.75 and 39.71 ms-1.75, respectively. To the reality of the passenger, the situation in front of the vehicle seat, the observed exposure to VCI, second the basic method was considered "a little uncomfortable", while for sitting in the middle section, was classified as "uncomfortable". The average values of vibration magnitudes, by the basic method, on the z axis, found on the seats of passengers and drivers are similar, suggesting that the seat cushioning of these is inappropriate. Drivers are exposed to levels above the recommended limits, and passengers have traveled in an uncomfortable situation.

Este relato, apresentado como estudo de caso, acompanha os oito dias que transcorreram entre a internação para a implantação de um marca-passo e o falecimento de um sujeito de 92 anos, com histórico de hipertensão, diabetes melito e em estágio avançado de Alzheimer, caracterizado por completa perda das memórias de longo e curto prazos e por quadro geral de demência, com total incapacidade de compreensão de sua situação no contexto hospitalar. Trata-se de relato de caráter subjetivo, realizado por um observador com vínculos afetivos com o sujeito objeto da observação e com atuação acadêmica em área estranha à medicina.

This report, presented as a case study, follows the eight days between internment for implantation of a pacemaker and the passing of a 92 year old person, with a history of hypertension and diabetes mellitus and at an advanced stage of Alzheimer's disease, characterized by complete loss of long and short term memory and an overall diagnosis of dementia with total incapacity for comprehension of his or her own hospital context. This is a report from the viewpoint of an observer with affective ties to the focus subject and with academic activities outside the area of medicine.

Este relato, presentado como estudio de caso, acompaña los ocho días que transcurrieron entre la internación para la implantación de un marcapasos y el fallecimiento de un sujeto de noventa y dos años, con un historial de hipertensión, diabetes mellitus y un estadio avanzado de Alzheimer, caracterizado por una completa pérdida de memoria de largo y corto plazo y por un cuadro general de demencia con total incapacidad de comprensión de su situación en el contexto hospitalario. Se trata de un relato realizado a partir del punto de vista subjetivo de un observador con vínculos afectivos con el sujeto objeto de observación y con una actuación académica en un área ajena a la Medicina.

No Brasil, as matrizes necessárias para a reprodução de mapas táteis ainda são produzidas de modo artesanal e demorado. Este artigo apresenta uma proposta de confeccionar matrizes táteis a partir de diferentes tecnologias de prototipagem rápida e determinar a sua viabilidade na automação do processo de fabricação das matrizes táteis. Primeiro foi realizada uma revisão na literatura sobre o assunto para verificar, dentro dos processos de prototipagem existentes, quais podem ser utilizados na confecção de matrizes táteis, principalmente quanto a capacidade da matéria-prima em resistir à pressão e altas temperaturas durante o processo de produção dos mapas finais. Apesar destes requisitos operacionais constituírem uma desvantagem em termos de equipamento especializado, o principal ganho no emprego destes poderá ser obtido pela garantia de geração de matrizes idênticas e flexibilidade na escolha de padrões. Os primeiros protótipos foram produzidos em poliuretano, pó de gesso e Uriol, em dois processos: impressoras 3D e máquinas fresadoras. As matrizes foram feitas apenas com o uso da fresadora, com poliuretano e MDF como matéria-prima. Foram conduzidos testes de percepção tátil pelo revisor de Braille do Instituto Benjamin Constant, seguindo metodologia padrão adotada pela instituição em todos os materiais produzidos.

In Brazil, the matrices required for the reproduction of tactile maps still favor a craft production and time-consuming. This article presents one proposal to manufacture tactile arrays from different techniques and rapid prototyping technology and to determine the feasibility of rapid prototyping in the automation of the manufacture process of tactile arrays. First, a revision of the literature on the subject was done, within the existing prototyping processes which can be used for making tactile arrays, especially regarding the ability of the raw materials on resist pressure high temperatures, during the production of the final maps. Despite the fact that these operational requirements constitute a disadvantage in terms of specialized equipment, the main gain in employment of these can be got by ensuring a generation of identical matrices and flexibility in the choice of tactile patterns. The first prototypes were made of different materials (polyurethane, plaster dust and Uriol) using two processes: 3D printers and milling machine. The matrices were made only with the use of the milling machine, using polyurethane and MDF. Tactile perception test were done by the reviewer Braille Institute Benjamin Constant, observing the standard methodology adopted by the institution in all materials produced.
