Abstract In some operational circumstances a fast evaluation of landfill leachate anaerobic treatability is necessary, and neither Biochemical Methane Potential nor BOD/COD ratio are fast enough. Looking for a fast indicator, this work evaluated the anaerobic treatability of landfill leachate from São Carlos-SP (Brazil) in a pilot scale Anaerobic Sequence Batch Biofilm Reactor (AnSBBR). The experiment was conducted at ambient temperature in the landfill area. After the acclimation, at a second stage of operation, the AnSBBR presented efficiency above 70%, in terms of COD removal, utilizing landfill leachate without water dilution, with an inlet COD of about 11,000 mg.L-1, a TVA/COD ratio of approximately 0.6 and reaction time equal to 7 days. To evaluate the landfill leachate biodegradability variation over time, temporal profiles of concentration were performed in the AnSBBR. The landfill leachate anaerobic biodegradability was verified to have a direct and strong relationship to the TVA/COD ratio. For a TVA/CODTotal ratio lower than 0.20, the biodegradability was considered low, for ratios between 0.20 and 0.40 it was considered medium, and above 0.40 it was considered high.

O fracionamento cromatográfico da fase diclorometânica dos caules de Michelia champaca, forneceu quatro substâncias: álcool 4-O-beta-D-glicopiranosídeo sinapílico, aldeído 4-O-beta-D-glicopiranosídeo sinápico, siringaresinol e N-acetilnonaina. Extração ácido-base de uma nova porção do extrato bruto etanólico permitiu a identificação do alcalóide liriodenina. Os derivados fenilpropanoídicos e o alcalóide N-acetilnonaina estão sendo descritos pela primeira vez no gênero Michelia. O alcalóide liriodenina e a lignana siringaresinol apresentaram atividade antifúngica moderada.

The fractionation of the dichlorometanic layer of dried stems of Michelia champaca afforded four substances: sinapyl 4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside alcohol, sinapyl 4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside aldehyde, syringaresinol and N-acetylnonaine. Part of the crude extract portion was submitted to acid-basic extraction allowed the identification of the alkaloid liriodenine. The two phenylpropanoids derivatives and the alkaloid N-acetylnonaine were been reported for the first time from Michelia genus. The alkaloid liriodenine and the lignan syringaresinol showed moderate antifungal activity.

Agliconas enantioméricas de lignanas, contidas numa mistura, foram separadas de uma fração do extrato dos galhos de Alibertia sessilis (Vell.) K. Schum. (Rubiaceae) por cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência preparativa. Uma separação eficiente e rápida pode ser conseguida com a fase móvel metanol-água (30:70, v/v). As estruturas foram identificadas como (+)-lioniresinol 3alfa-O-beta-glicopiranosídeo e (-)-lioniresinol 3alfa-O-beta-glicopiranosídeo, sendo descritas pela primeira vez em Rubiaceae.

Enantiomeric aglycone lignans contained in a mixture were separated from a fraction of the extract of the stems of Alibertia sessilis (Vell.) K. Schum. (Rubiaceae) by preparative high-performance liquid chromatography. An efficient and fast separation can be achieved with methanol-water (30:70, v/v). Their structures were identified as (+)-lyoniresinol 3alpha-O-beta-glucopyranoside and (-)-lyoniresinol 3alpha-O-beta-glucopyranoside, being reported for the first time in Rubiaceae.
