Abstract One of the greatest problems regarding corporate manslaughter is its neutralization and justification by society. The media industry plays an important role in such a process because it can act as a public opinion mobilizer but also favors the suppression of such crimes from the public agenda. However, the advent of digital media brought the expectations that, with a higher number of voices disseminating content about these crimes, people would be more aware of its seriousness. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze how Brazilian news websites have approached the corporate manslaughter concept in the coverage of Samarco’s and Vale’s criminous tragedies. To do so, 318 news reports about these cases published on seven Brazilian websites were studied using the qualitative content analysis method. Five websites, self-classified as alternative-independent, and two mainstream media sites were studied. The study has found a high frequency of news reporting about these cases soon after the tragedies, but nowadays, they are getting lost in a spiral of silence. It was also observed that the sites are reluctant to report the cases as corporate manslaughter, framing the episodes as accidents or tragedies. The alternative-independent media appeared to be more inclined to frame it as a homicide but revealed not to have enough resources to produce their own content. In general, it was observed that the reporting approach neutralized and re-signified the crimes, favoring the companies. No effort to mobilize public opinion was observed to demand that the justice institutions punish the companies.

Resumo Um dos grandes problemas referentes aos homicídios corporativos é a sua neutralização e justificação perante a sociedade. A mídia tem um papel importante nesse processo, pois pode atuar tanto como mobilizadora da opinião pública, quanto favorecendo supressão desses delitos da agenda pública. O surgimento das mídias digitais fez crescer a expectativa de que, com um maior número de vozes que noticiem esse tipo de delito, haveria uma cobertura com diversidade de abordagens e pontos de vista. Nesse sentido, este artigo teve como objetivo analisar como os sites de notícias brasileiros abordaram o conceito de homicídio corporativo nas tragédias-crime da Samarco e da Vale. Para tanto, 318 matérias sobre esses casos, publicadas por sete sites brasileiros, foram estudados por meio da análise de conteúdo, sendo cinco classificados como alternativos-independentes e dois da mídia mainstream. Verificou-se que houve uma grande frequência de noticiação logo após os ocorridos, mas atualmente os fatos tendem a se perder na espiral do silêncio. Notou-se também uma relutância em reportar os casos como homicídio corporativo, sendo mais frequente o enquadramento como acidente ou tragédia. A mídia alternativa-independente demonstrou uma predisposição maior em enquadrar como homicídio, porém demonstrou pouca envergadura para produzir conteúdo próprio. No geral, observou-se uma abordagem que facilitou a neutralização e a ressignificação dos crimes favorecendo as empresas. Não se verificou nenhum esforço para mobilizar a opinião pública para cobrar dos órgãos de justiça a punição aos responsáveis nem a criminalização das empresas.

ABSTRACT A long-term experiment (2013 to 2017) of treated sewage effluent (TSE) levels via fertigation in a humid tropical region was installed in Jaboticabal, state of São Paulo, Southeast of Brazil, to evaluate the impact of TSE on soil fertility and the potential for salinization and heavy metal contamination of an Oxisol. The area was cultivated with Urochloa brizantha under the application of four TSE levels at the irrigation depth (0, 11, 60, and 100% TSE) during the four years of the experiment. The TSE chemical composition was monitored throughout the experimental period. The heavy metal levels and soil fertility were evaluated in the 0-0.10 and 0.10-0.20 m layers at the end of the four years of the experiment. Fertigation using TSE did not increase the concentration of potentially toxic elements (As, Cd, Cu, Hg, Mo, Ni, Pb, Se, and Zn) in the soil due to their low concentration in the effluent. A higher Na concentration was also observed at high TSE levels (60 and 100%). However, the sodium adsorption rate in the TSE was low, generating no potential for soil salinization and sodification. Fertigation with TSE levels increased soil fertility, increasing by more than 10% the P content and base saturation in the soil compared to control. According to the chemical attributes evaluated in the soil and effluent, this long-term study showed that TSE application via fertigation in humid tropical regions on clayey soils cultivated with forage grasses is recommended.

Resumo Introdução: O câncer de mama é o tipo de câncer mais comum entre as mulheres. Os tratamentos podem levar a complicações, modificando os padrões de movimento dos membros superiores e gerando dor e perda de funcionalidade. A cinesioterapia e a reorganização miofascial (RM) têm demonstrado efeitos positivos na redução da dor crônica e na melhora da função dos membros superiores. A hipótese do presente estudo é que essas técnicas podem maximizar os resultados e reduzir o tempo de tratamento na prática clínica. Objetivo: Desenvolver um protocolo para verificar se a RM associada à cinesioterapia é mais eficaz do que a cinesioterapia isolada no tratamento da dor crônica e disfunção do membro superior em sobreviventes de câncer de mama. Métodos: As participantes serão divididas em dois grupos: grupo intervenção (reorganização miofascial + cinesioterapia) e grupo sham (massagem tradicional + cinesioterapia). Serão realizadas seis sessões de tratamento (uma vez por semana) e três avaliações. Os instrumentos de avaliação da dor e da funcionalidade serão a Escala Visual Analógica, o Diagrama de Dor Corporal, o Questionário de Deficiências do Braço, Ombro e Mão e a goniometria. A análise estatística será realizada com base na análise de intenção de tratar. Para analisar a diferença de médias entre os grupos, serão utilizados o teste T-Student ou U Mann-Whitney. ANOVA de medidas repetidas será utilizada para verificar os efeitos dos tratamentos. O nível de significância para todos os testes será de 5%. Conclusão: Espera-se que a RM associada à cinesioterapia melhore a dor crônica e a funcionalidade dos membros superiores de sobreviventes de câncer de mama.

Abstract Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women. Treatments can lead to complications modifying upper limbs movement patterns and generating pain and functionality loss. Kinesiotherapy and myofascial reorganization (MR) have shown positive effects reducing chronic pain and improving upper limbs function. We hypothesize that these techniques can maximize results and reduce treatment time in clinical practice. Objective: To develop a study protocol to verify whether MR associated with kinesiotherapy is more effective than isolated kinesiotherapy to treat chronic pain and upper limb dysfunction in breast cancer survivors. Methods: Participants will be divided into two groups: intervention group (myofascial reorganization + kinesiotherapy) and sham group (traditional massage + kinesiotherapy). Six treatment sessions (once a week) and three-time assessment will occur. Instruments for assessing pain and functionality will be Visual Analogue Scale, Body Pain Diagram, Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Questionnaire, and goniometry. Statistical analysis will be conducted based on intention-to-treat analysis. To analyze the difference of means between groups, we will use T-Student or U Mann-Whitney test. Repeated measures ANOVA will be used to check treatments effects. Significance level for all tests will be 5%. Conclusion: We believe that the developed study protocol will show that MR associated with kinesiotherapy improve chronic pain and upper limbs functionality of breast cancer survivors.

Resumo Introdução: A incapacidade de manter uma boa estabilidade pélvica tem sido atribuída à coordenação muscular ineficiente e ao descondicionamento dos músculos estabilizadores. Apesar disso, pouco se sabe sobre a função dos músculos pélvicos nos movimentos de anteversão e retroversão. Objetivo: Comparar a atividade neuromuscular do tensor da fáscia lata, glúteo médio, porções inferior e superior do glúteo máximo e multífidos durante a anteversão e retroversão pélvica. Métodos: A atividade neuromuscular de 17 adultos jovens saudáveis (25,3 ± 4,6 anos) foi avaliada durante cinco repetições dos movimentos de anteversão e retroversão pélvica. Utilizou-se o sistema Vicon-Nexus (10 câmeras) para a análise cinemática da pelve no plano sagital (anteversão e retroversão), e o eletromiógrafo TeleMyo DTS Desk Receiver e o software MyoMuscle v. 3.8 para mensurar a atividade neuromuscular. Testes t pareados foram conduzidos para comparar a atividade muscular entre os movimentos de anteversão e retroversão pélvica, utilizando-se o software Statistica v.8 com nível de significância de p < 0,05. Resultados: Quando comparados os movimentos, maior atividade muscular foi observada para o glúteo máximo inferior durante a retroversão e maior atividade para os multífidos durante a anteversão pélvica. A porção superior do glúteo máximo apresentou ativação relevante em ambos os movimentos. Conclusão: Houve atividade mais pronunciada da porção inferior do glúteo máximo na retroversão enquanto o glúteo máximo superior apresentou nível relevante de ativação em ambos os movimentos; os multífidos se mostraram mais ativos na retroversão.

Abstract Introduction: The inability to maintain good pelvic stability has been attributed to inefficient muscle coordination and deconditioning of the stabilizing muscles. Despite this, little is known about the role of the pelvic muscles in anteversion and retroversion movements. Objective: To compare the neuromuscular activity of the tensor fascia lata, gluteus medius, upper and lower portions of the gluteus maximus, and multifidus in pelvic anteversion and retroversion. Methods: The neuromuscular activity of 17 healthy young adults (aged 25.3 ± 4.6 years) was assessed during five repetitions of the pelvic anteversion and retroversion movements. The Vicon-Nexus system (10 cameras) was used for the kinematic analysis of the pelvis in the sagittal plane (anteversion and retroversion), and the TeleMyo DTS Desk Receiver electromyograph and the Myomuscle v. 3.8 software to measure neuromuscular activity. The paired samples t-test was used to compare muscle activity between pelvic anteversion and retroversion movements using the Statistica v.8 software with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The comparison of the movements showed greater muscle activity in the inferior gluteus maximus in retroversion and greater activity in the multifidus in pelvic anteversion. The upper portion of the gluteus maximus showed relevant activation in both movements. Conclusion: There was more pronounced activity of the lower portion of the gluteus maximus in retroversion, while the upper gluteus maximus showed relevant activation level in both movements. The multifidi were more active in retroversion.

ABSTRACT The response of biomass flow components of forage from the interaction between fertigation with wastewater and cutting height during the year is little known. The objective of this work was to verify the responses of morphogenic and structural characteristics of Urochloa brizantha as a function of fertigation application strategies with sewage treatment plant effluent (TSE), complemented with urea (U), associated with harvest with two plant heights during the dry and rainy periods. The forage cutting heights were 30 cm (H1) and 40 cm (H2), and nitrogen fertilization doses were 9.1 (D1), 12.1 (D2), 22.5 (D3), 26.6 (D4), and 34.0 (D5) kg of N per Mg−1 of dry matter (DM) produced, applied by TSE via fertigation, plus 7.5 kg N per Mg−1 of DM produced, applied in the form of urea by cover in all treatments. Factor analyses for the dry and rainy periods identified two processes that correspond to forage mass growth and leaf development. Analysis of variance showed that treatments D5H2 and D5H1 presented superior responses over the other treatments, in the dry, and rainy periods. The treatment D5H2 stood out in the process of forage mass growth, and D5H1 in leaf development.

Resumo Objetivo Comparar a distribuição da pressão plantar e a cinemática do retropé durante a fase de apoio da marcha de sujeitos com e sem síndrome da dor patelofemoral (SDPF). Métodos Participaram 26 sujeitos com SDPF e 31 clinicamente saudáveis, pareados em idade, estatura e massa corporal. Foi avaliada a distribuição da pressão plantar (pico de pressão) em seis regiões plantares, e a cinemática do retropé (ângulo máximo de eversão do retropé, porcentagem da fase de apoio da marcha em que o ângulo é atingido, e porcentagem da fase de apoio em que o retropé permaneceu em eversão). Os dados foram analisados por meio da estatística descritiva e inferencial, com nível de significância de p≤ 0,05. Resultados A pressão nas seis regiões plantares analisadas e a magnitude do ângulo máximo de eversão do retropé durante a marcha em superfície plana não se mostrou diferente nos sujeitos com SDPF. No entanto, sujeitos com SDPF apresentaram, dentro do ciclo da marcha, ângulo máximo de eversão do retropé mais cedo do que sujeitos do grupo controle, e permaneceram menos tempo com o retropé em eversão. Conclusão A SDPF parece estar relacionada à alteração no padrão temporal na cinemática do retropé.

Abstract Objective To compare the plantar pressure distribution and the kinematics of the rearfoot on the stance phase of subjects with or without patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). Methods A total of 26 subjects with PFPS and 31 clinically healthy subjects, who were paired regarding age, height and mass, participated in the study. The plantar pressure distribution (peak pressure) was assessed in six plantar regions, as well as the kinematics of the rearfoot (maximum eversion angle, percentage of the stance phase when the maximum angle was reached, and percentage of the stance phase in which the rearfoot was in eversion). The data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics, with a significance level of p≤ 0.05. Results The pressure on the six plantar regions analyzed and the magnitude of the maximum eversion angle of the rearfoot when walking on flat surfaces did not present differences among the subjects with PFPS. However, the PFPS subjects showed, when walking, an earlier maximum eversion angle of the rearfoot than the subjects on the control group, and stayed less time with the rearfoot in eversion. Conclusion The PFPS seems to be related to modifications on the temporal pattern on the kinematics of the rearfoot.

RESUMO: A Leishmaniose visceral humana (LV) está em franca expansão e distribuída nas cinco regiões geográficas do Brasil, o Nordeste sendo a região em que há o maior número de casos registrados. O principal reservatório urbano do agente etiológico da LV é o cão doméstico e sabe-se que casos caninos antecedem o aparecimento de casos humanos. Uma das ações de controle da LV, preconizada pelo Ministério da Saúde, é a eutanásia dos cães soro reagentes. Em 2013, no município de Iguatama/MG, foi realizado o primeiro inquérito sorológico canino na cidade, sendo constatada uma prevalência de 8,3% de cães soro reagentes para Leishmania infantum. Dos animais com sorologia positiva para Leishmaniose visceral canina (LVC), neste inquérito, 84% foram eutanasiados e 16% foram a óbito em, no máximo, dois anos após o diagnóstico. Nenhuma outra medida de controle para LVC foi realizada no município. Os objetivos deste estudo foram determinar a prevalência atual de cães soro reagentes para LVC no município de Iguatama e observar o impacto das eutanásias de cães soro reagentes para LV como única medida de controle realizada neste município, considerado área enzoótica para a doença. Para isso, foi realizado um novo inquérito epidemiológico canino no município de Iguatama, seguindo as normas do Manual de Vigilância e Controle da Leishmaniose Visceral. Foram colhidas amostras sanguíneas de 270 cães que foram examinadas pelo teste imunocromatográfico DPP® e pelo ensaio imunoenzimático (ELISA). Os animais que apresentaram resultados inconclusivos tiveram novas amostras de sangue coletadas e analisadas. O único animal que apresentou resultado positivo no DPP® e indeterminado no ELISA, na primeira avaliação, soro converteu quatro meses depois, o que reforça a recomendação do Ministério da Saúde de reavaliar os cães que apresentam resultado inconclusivo para LVC. Do total das 270 amostras, 21 foram reagentes nos dois testes. Portanto, a prevalência de cães soro reagentes para LVC, em 2017, na área urbana do município de Iguatama foi igual a 7,8%. A infecção pela espécie Leishmania infantum foi confirmada através da técnica molecular de PCR-RFLP em 10 cães amostrados com sorologia positiva para LVC. A comparação entre a prevalência atual (depois das eutanásias) com a encontrada em 2013 (8,3%), não mostrou diferença significativa (p=0,764). Uma vez que a soro prevalência de LVC na área urbana do município de Iguatama ainda é alta, pode-se supor que a eutanásia dos cães soro reagentes para LVC, somada à ausência de monitoramento e de outras medidas de intervenção, não contribuiu para a diminuição da transmissão do parasito, e não foi suficiente para o controle de LVC no município de Iguatama, uma área considerada, até 2013, indene para LVC.

ABSTRACT: Human Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) is expanding, and it is distributed in the five geographic regions of Brazil, with the Northeast being the region that presents the most significant number of registered cases. The main urban reservoir of the etiological agent of VL is the domestic dog, and it is known that canine cases precede human cases. One of the control actions of VL, recommended by the Ministry of Health, is performing the euthanasia of seropositive dogs. In 2013, in the municipality of Iguatama/MG, the first canine serological survey was carried out in the city, with a prevalence of 8.3% of seropositive dogs for Leishmania infantum. Of the seropositive animals for Canine Visceral Leishmaniasis (CVL) in this survey, 84% were euthanized, and 16% died within two years after diagnosis. No other control measures for CVL were taken in the municipality. The objectives of the present study were to determine the current prevalence of seropositive dogs for CVL in the municipality of Iguatama and to observe the impact of euthanasia of seropositive dogs to VL as the only control measure performed in this municipality, which is considered an enzootic area of the disease. For this, a new canine epidemiological survey was carried out in the municipality of Iguatama, following the guidelines of the Manual of Surveillance and Control of Visceral Leishmaniasis. Blood samples were collected from 270 dogs and tested by DPP® immunochromatographic test and by Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The animals that presented inconclusive results had new blood samples collected and analyzed. The only animal that showed a positive result in DPP® and undetermined in the ELISA, in the first evaluation, became seropositive four months later, so this study reinforces the recommendation of the Ministry of Health to reassess dogs that present inconclusive results for CVL. From a total of 270 samples, 21 (7.8%) were reagents in both tests. Thus, the prevalence of seropositive dogs for CVL, in 2017, in the urban area of the municipality of Iguatama was 7.8%. The Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) molecular technique confirmed infection by L. infantum in the ten dogs sampled with CVL-positive serology. The comparison between the current prevalence (after euthanasia) with that found in 2013 (8.3%), there was no significant difference (p=0.764). The prevalence of CVL in the urban area of the municipality of Iguatama is still high, making it possible to presume that the euthanasia of seropositive dogs for CVL, and the absence of monitoring or other interventions measures, did not contribute to decrease the transmission of the parasite and was not sufficient for the control of CVL in the municipality of Iguatama, an area considered as non-endemic to CVL until 2013.

Abstract: This article analyses some characteristics of the postgraduate Brazilian population in the period of 2009-2015 presented by the statistical data of the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografía e Estatística - IBGE, Centro de Gestão e Estudos Estratégicos - CGEE, Relação Anual de Informações Sociais - RAIS and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development - OECD. The analysis of the data shows that the postgraduate professionals continue to be a minority in Brazil, belonging to academic elite and, in most cases, to economic elite.

Resumen: Este artículo analiza algunas características de la población brasileña posgraduada en el periodo de 2009-2015 presentados por los datos estadísticos del Instituto Brasileiro de Geografía e Estatística (IBGE), Centro de Gestão e Estudos Estratégicos (CGEE), Relação Anual de Informações Sociais (RAIS) y de la Organización para la Cooperación y el Desarrollo Económico (OCDE). El análisis de los datos muestra que las personas con postgrado siguen siendo una minoría en Brasil, perteneciendo a una elite académica y, en la mayoría de los casos, a una élite económica.

OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the cognitive function and its relationship with balance, history of falls, and fear of falling in the elderly. METHODS: We evaluated 250 elderly persons aged at least 60 years, who answered a sociodemographic questionnaire about the occurrence of falls in the last year. The cognitive function, balance, and fear of falling were assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), and Falls Efficacy Scale (FES-I) scores, respectively. Participants were allocated into two groups based on the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score, the Group with Possible Cognitive Decline (GPCD) and the group with no cognitive decline (GNCD). We performed Student's t-test and Pearson’s correlation for independent samples. RESULTS: The Group with Possible Cognitive Decline (GPCD) showed lower balance (p=0.003) and greater fear of falling (p=0.008) (BBS=50.98±4.68; FES-I=26.06±8.78) compared to the GNCD (BBS=52.53±3.047; FES-I=23.21±7.74). CONCLUSION: Elderly persons with cognitive decline have lower balance, greater fear of falling, and greater recurrence of falls.

Resumo Apesar do aumento no número de competições Ironman em todo o mundo e milhares de atletas se juntarem à experiência Ironman, apenas alguns estudos foram publicados sobre os efeitos dessa competição no controle postural. Este estudo tem como objetivo investigar a capacidade de manter uma postura estática em três posições diferentes antes e depois de uma competição de Ironman e o comportamento do nível de glicose no sangue. Quarenta e nove voluntários foram submetidos à avaliação do equilíbrio usando uma plataforma de força, VSRTM Sport. A área do centro de gravidade (ACOG) foi avaliada pré e pós-competição nas posturas bipodal, unipodal e tandem. Os níveis de glicose também foram avaliados simultaneamente. Os achados do ACOG mostraram um aumento significativo pós-competição nas três posturas avaliadas, sem interação significativa entre as posturas. O teste de glicose mostrou aumento nos níveis glicêmicos pós-competição. Os resultados mostraram decréscimo no controle postural, sugerindo que a estimulação prolongada ao exercício poderia levar a um distúrbio no controle postural.

Abstract Despite the increase in the number of Ironman competitions worldwide, thousands of athletes have been joining Ironman experience but only a few studies have been published on the effects of this competition on postural control. This study aims to investigate the ability to maintain a static posture in three different positions before and after an Ironman competition and the blood glucose level behavior. Forty-nine volunteers underwent balance evaluation using the force plate VSRTM Sport. The area of the center of gravity (ACOG) was assessed pre- and post-competition in the bipodal, unipodal, and tandem postures. Glucose levels were also assessed concurrently. The ACOG findings showed a significant post-competition increase in the three postures assessed, with no significant interaction between the postures. The glucose test showed an increase in the post-competition glycemic levels. The findings showed reduced postural control, suggesting that prolonged exercise stimulation could lead to a disturbance in postural control.

ABSTRACT Through the use of remote sensing, the productivity and the nutritional state of the plants can be estimated in relation to the nitrogen doses due to the modification of the canopy reflectance. In this study, values of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) obtained by a terrestrial optical sensor were correlated with productivity and contents of nitrogen (N) and of foliar crude protein (CP) of Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu, fertigated with doses of sewage treatment effluent (STE) The NDVI average rates of the forage were obtained by the active terrestrial sensor (GreenSeeker) before the harvests that were realized every 28 days in 2014. Five fertigated treatments with the following fractions of STE in water were evaluated: E5 = 1.0; E4 = 0.87; E3 = 0.60; E2 = 0.31; and E1 = 0.11. During the 12 months of experiment, the treatment E5 received 1,132 kg ha-1 of N and the others received quantities proportional according to the application fractions defined in each treatment. The increasing application doses of STE resulted in higher yields of dry biomass and better leaf qualities in N and crude protein (CP). The productivity, the foliar N content and the NDVI index were increasing due to the gradual application of applied STE. There was a high linear correlation among the NDVI indexes and the productivity (r>0.9256) and with the N content (r>0.9570) and also for CP (r>0.8421) and leaf N (r>0.8339), demonstrating that the method can be used to estimate forage productivity and quality.

RESUMO. O alto consumo de água na agricultura irrigada e falta de fontes alternativas de água tornar a reutilização da água de esgoto uma opção altamente promissora nesta atividade. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o rendimento e a qualidade da forrageira Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu fertirrigada com águas residuais de efluente de esgoto tratado (EET) e fertilizante mineral, nos anos de 2013 e 2014, em Jaboticabal, Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. A lâmina homogênea da água foi aplicada por um sistema de irrigação por aspersão em linha tripla, mas sob aplicação gradual EET, usando os seguintes EET e água proporções: E5 = 1,0; E4 = 0,87; E3 = 0,6; E2 = 0,31, E1 = 0,11 e E0 = 0,0. O rendimento anual de biomassa aumentou com aplicação EET, variando 31,3-47,4 Mg ha-1 em 2013 e 25,7-56,9 Mg ha-1 em 2014, para E1 e E5, respectivamente. Houve sazonalidade na produção de forrageira, com os valores mais elevados no verão (35,9 a 44,7%) e primavera (35,7 a 38,4%) e as mais baixas durante a temporada de outono-inverno (19,6 a 25,7%). Apesar das altas doses de nitrogênio (1.132 kg ha-1), o rendimento máximo de forragem não foi alcançado, de modo que novos aumentos de nitrogênio ainda possam melhorar o rendimento. As baixas produtividades no outono-inverno foram compensadas pela melhor qualidade da forrageira em proteína bruta (PB) e fibra em detergente neutro (FDN).

ABSTRACT. The high consumption of water in irrigated agriculture and lack of alternative water sources make reusing sewage water a highly promising option for irrigation. This paper is aimed at evaluating Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu forage quality and yield when fertigated with treated sewage wastewater (TSW) and mineral fertilizer, in the 2013 and 2014 crop years in Jaboticabal, São Paulo State, Brazil. A homogeneous water depth was applied using a triple-line sprinkling irrigation system under a gradual TSW application, using the following TSW and water ratios: E5 = 1.0; E4 = 0.87; E3 = 0.6; E2 = 0.31, E1 = 0.11, and E0 = 0.0. Annual biomass yield increased with the TSW application, ranging from 31.3 to 47.4 Mg ha-1 in 2013 and from 25.7 to 56.9 Mg ha-1 in 2014, for E1 and E5, respectively. Forage yield had marked seasonality, with the highest values in summer (35.9 to 44.7%) and spring (35.7 to 38.4%) and the lowest ones during the fall-winter seasons (19.6 to 25.7%). Despite the high nitrogen rates (1,132 kg ha-1), maximum forage yield was not achieved, hence further nitrogen increments would still enhance yield. Forage improved quality has counterbalanced the low fall-winter yields in terms of crude protein (CP) and neutral detergent fibre (NDF).

RESUMO Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, avaliar o desempenho de três modelos de gotejadores de fluxo normal utilizando não apenas o efluente de esgoto tratado puro e diluído mas também dois tipos de filtro, tela e disco. O efluente de esgoto tratado utilizado no experimento foi proveniente da estação de tratamento da cidade. Esta unidade experimental foi composta por 12 linhas laterais com três modelos de gotejadores, dois modelos de filtro e se utilizou, como água de irrigação, o efluente de esgoto tratado puro (100%) e diluído em água (50%). Para cada modelo de gotejador foram definidos os tratamentos, sendo: T1 (efluente diluído em 50% com água subterrânea e uso de filtro de tela); T2 (efluente diluído em 50% com água subterrânea e uso de filtro de disco); T3 (efluente 100% e uso de filtro de tela); T4 (efluente 100% e uso de filtro de disco). Os resultados permitem afirmar que há modelos de gotejadores menos susceptíveis ao entupimento, sendo o gotejador de pastilha menos sensível ao entupimento. O filtro de disco é o mais indicado para prevenir o entupimento. O uso de efluente de esgoto puro ou diluído aumenta o coeficiente de variação de vazão dos gotejadores.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of three models of drippers using treated sewage effluent, pure and diluted, and two types of filters, screen and disc. The treated sewage effluent used in the experiment was collected from the city’s treatment plant. The experiment included 12 lateral lines with three types of emitters to apply pure (100%) and diluted (50%) effluent filtered by screen and disc filters. The combination of those factors set the treatments: T1 (50% effluent diluted in fresh water filtered by a screen filter); T2 (50% effluent diluted in fresh water filtered by a disc filter); T3 (pure effluent filtered by a screen filter); T4 (pure effluent filtered by a disc filter). The results showed that the flat type emitter is less sensitive to clogging, the disc filter is the most suitable to prevent clogging and the use of pure or diluted sewage effluent increases the drippers’ flow rate coefficient of variation.

ABSTRACT Without effective actions to improve environmental management, water resources tend to become scarce. Thus, this study aimed to understand the processes influencing the physical, chemical, and biological properties of the water due to land uses and occupation in the Ipê stream basin, in Ilha Solteira - SP (Brazil), regarding the dependence of the analyzed variables. Monitoring of chemical, physical, and biological water quality was performed from 2006 to 2011, and the records of land use and occupation in 2011. A factorial multivariate analysis allowed us to understand that the processes in densely populated areas increased degradation of water by the input of organic loads, yet those of farming areas enhanced the degradation of the chemical and physical quality of spring waters. Therefore, installing irrigation systems near populated areas, for crops consumed in natura, may compromise this agricultural activity, as well as the absence of water filtration systems downstream agricultural areas. Furthermore, we concluded that multivariate statistics is a powerful tool to detect these influencing processes in water quality. In this study, this type of analysis played an important role isolating the processes acting on water quality.
