The Linearized Augmented Plane Wave method, as implemented in the Wien2k computational code, was used to investigate the effects of the 3d transition metals (TM) Sc, Ti, and V impurities on the hyperfine interaction of iron atoms in α-Fe. The calculation results of this study suggest that the introduction of a TM (TM = Sc, Ti, and V) impurity into α-Fe increases the size of the lattice as well as alters the electronic charge distribution between the atoms in the lattice and at the atomic sphere of the host Fe atoms. The increase of the lattice disturbs the position of the iron atoms and the change on the electronic distribution disturbs the hyperfine interactions at all iron nuclei. The disturbances on the hyperfine magnetic field, isomer shift and electric field gradient at the iron nuclei depend on its relative location to the impurity atom.

Estudo exploratório, com desenho transversal, que teve como objetivo identificar sinais e sintomas autorreferidos por profissionais que trabalham em serviços de radiologia e os conhecimentos acerca da radioproteção e legislação. Os dados foram coletados junto a oito técnicos em radiologia que trabalham em três serviços localizados na região noroeste do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, utilizando-se um questionário autoaplicável e analisados mediante estatística descritiva. A cefaleia foi o sintoma mais citado pelos trabalhadores. Observou-se deficiência de saberes sobre legislação e uso de equipamentos de proteção individual. Acredita-se que a valorização no trabalho inicia com ações que privilegiem a segurança ocupacional, de modo a prevenir agravos e promover a saúde do trabalhador.

This exploratory study using cross-sectional design aimed to identify self-reported signs and symptoms by professionals working in radiology services and their knowledge concerning radiation protection and legislation. Data was collected from eight radiology technicians who work in three offices located in the northwestern state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, using a self-administered questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Headache was the symptom most often cited by workers. This study observed deficiencies of knowledge concerning laws and usage of personal protective equipment. It is believed that proper valuation at work begins with actions which promote occupational safety in order to prevent injuries and promote worker health.

Se trata de un estudio exploratorio, con diseño transversal, que tuvo como objetivo identificar los signos y los síntomas reportados por los profesionales que trabajan en los servicios de radiología y sus conocimientos sobre la protección radiológica y la legislación. Los datos fueron recolectados a partir de ocho técnicos de radiología que trabajan en tres oficinas ubicadas en la región noroeste del estado de Rio Grande do Sul - Brasil. Se utilizó un cuestionario auto-administrado, y los datos se analizaron mediante estadística descriptiva. La cefalea fue el síntoma más frecuentemente citado por los trabajadores. Atualmente a Visualização Científica aliada à Realidade Virtual tem-se tornado disponível como uma tecnologia de ponta para o aprendizado. No meio deste cenário, a demanda por software educacional que ofereça suporte para o processo de aprendizagem em muitas áreas está crescendo. Esta tendência não é diferente em Eletromagnetismo. Este trabalho apresenta um sistema de treinamento educacional, que é uma tentativa de responder a esta demanda. A aplicação tem sido desenvolvida com a combinação de tecnologias como a Realidade Virtual e a Visualização Científica para desmistificar os conceitos de manipulação e investigação interativa sobre a carga elétrica e seu campo elétrico. Os aspectos arquiteturais de tal sistema são discutidos juntamente com a descrição de um protótipo experimental chamado Electras.

Recently Scientific Visualization together with Virtual Reality has rapidly become available as leading edge technologies. In the midst of this scenario the demand for educational software that offers support for the teaching process in many areas has greatly increased. This trend is not different in Electromagnetism. This paper presents an educational training system, which is an attempt towards answering this demand. The application has been embedded with both virtual reality technology and scientific visualization techniques in order to carry out interactive investigation and manipulation of concepts concerning electric charge and its electric field. The architectural aspects of such system are discussed jointly with the description of an experimental prototype called Electras.
