Abstract In sheet metal forming (SMF), deformation is caused by the relative movement between the sheet and tool, which generates friction forces. However, materials behave differently during plastic deformation. In this study, a tribo-simulator was designed to investigate the effect of different contact conditions or formability tests on the tribological behavior of AISI 304 and AISI 430 stainless-steel sheets. The effects of the texture and microstructure of the sheets on the measured coefficients of friction (COFs) and changes that occurred on the tribosurfaces also were investigated. Roughness and microhardness measurements, optical and scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction were used in the analyses. The tribo-simulator was successfully manufactured, and the repeatability of the measured COFs was satisfactory (standard deviation of ~0.02). A comparative analysis of the formability tests revealed differences in the COFs. In the bending under tension test, the COF for ferritic steel was 33% higher, while in the strip-tension test, the COF for austenitic steel was 44% higher. Friction was strongly influenced by the texture and microstructural characteristics of the steel sheets. The samples exhibited galling due to severe adhesive wear.

RESUMO Na conformação de chapas metálicas, as propriedades mecânicas do material e os aspectos relacionados ao atrito têm sido uma das principais preocupações, pois têm grande influência na produtividade, qualidade do produto e custos de produção. Nesse contexto, é de extrema importância compreender e ser capaz de controlar os diferentes fatores que afetam o atrito durante o processo de deformação plástica. O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar a influência da variação da velocidade de estampagem e da anisotropia no comportamento tribológico e na fratura de uma tira de aço inoxidável ferrítico AISI 430 estabilizado com Nb deslizando sobre um pino de metal duro (WC-12% Co). Para isso, foi utilizado um teste de conformabilidade que simula o atrito entre a chapa e a ferramenta. O coeficiente de atrito, ductilidade e dureza na fratura foram medidos para investigar o efeito da velocidade de ensaio e da anisotropia da chapa de aço nos resultados experimentais. Uma análise comparativa dos resultados revelou que o coeficiente de atrito diminuiu com o aumento da velocidade de teste. Além disso, a orientação da tira metálica influenciou sintomaticamente no atrito, sendo maior no sentido de laminação, cuja rugosidade superficial foi maior que no sentido transversal. Como resultado da deformação plástica, a dureza e resistência da chapa de aço aumentaram, mas a ductilidade diminuiu, porém, o aumento da velocidade de ensaio também influenciou os valores desses parâmetros causando uma diminuição, muito provavelmente, devido ao aumento da temperatura na interface de contato.

ABSTRACT In sheet metal forming, mechanical properties of the material and aspects related to friction have been one of the main concerns, as they have a great influence on productivity, product quality and production costs. In this context, it is extremely important to understand and to be able to control the different factors that affect friction during the plastic deformation process. This study aims to investigate the influence of drawing speed and anisotropy on the tribological behavior and fracture of an AISI 430 ferritic stainless-steel strip stabilized with Nb sliding over a hard metal pin (WC-12%Co). A formability test that simulates the friction between the sheet and tool was used. The coefficient of friction, ductility and hardness in the fracture were measured to investigate the effect of drawing speed and anisotropy of the steel for the experimental results. A comparative analysis of the results revealed that the coefficient of friction due to increases surface roughness by roping effect. Furthermore, the orientation of the metallic strip influenced symptomatically on the friction, being higher in the rolling direction, which surface roughness was higher than the transverse direction. As a result of plastic deformation, the hardness and strength of the steel sheet increased, but the ductility decreased; however, the increase in drawing speed also influenced the values of these parameters causing a decrease, most probably, due to the increase temperature at the contact interface.

RESUMO No presente trabalho procurou-se compreender os fenômenos associados à usinagem do aço ABNT 4340 utilizando ferramentas de corte de metal duro e cermet, ambas com geometria do quebra-cavaco para usinagem leve (LP) e média (MP). Nesse sentido, analisou-se a influência da variação do avanço, quebracavaco e o material da ferramenta de corte nos parâmetros de resposta do processo, força de corte, rugosidade, forma do cavaco e análise das superfícies de saída e de folga dos insertos durante a operação de torneamento. Inicialmente, um planejamento fatorial completo 23 foi empregado para análise da força de corte e rugosidade. Em relação à análise da força de corte, a análise de variância (ANOVA) indicou que o material da ferramenta de corte e o avanço afetaram significativamente a força de corte, sendo os menores valores alcançados com a ferramenta de corte cermet e o menor nível de avanço. Quanto à rugosidade Rq, diferentes níveis de materiais de ferramenta ou quebra-cavacos não foram suficientes para alterar significativamente o valor de Rq. Em relação ao cavaco, o avanço e o tipo de quebra-cavaco influenciaram na sua forma. Como última análise, para os parâmetros de corte estabelecidos e percurso de corte, não foi possível identificar desgaste nas ferramentas de corte, no entanto, a análise por EDS apontou a adesão de material nas superfícies de folga e de saída para ambas ferramentas avaliadas.

In this sense, the influence of the variation of the feed rate, the chip breaker and the cutting tool material on the parameters of process response, shear force, shear strength, chip form and analysis of the outlet and gap surfaces of the inserts during the turning operation. Initially, a complete factorial design 23 was used for analysis of shear strength and roughness. In relation to the shear force analysis, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) indicated that the cutting tool material and the feed significantly affected the cutting force, the lowest values being obtained with the cermet cutting tool and the lowest level of advancement. As for Rq roughness, different levels of tool materials or chip breakers were not sufficient to significantly alter the value of Rq. In relation to the chip, the advance and the type of chipbreaker influenced its shape. As a last analysis, it was not possible to identify wear on the cutting tools, for the established cutting parameters and cut path, however, the EDS analysis pointed to the adhesion of material to the clearance and exit surfaces for both tools evaluated.

O presente trabalho tem por objetivo analisar a formação de bandas cisalhantes em chapas metálicas de aço baixo carbono (SAE 1006) submetidas à tração uniaxial. Essa verificação foi feita através de análise numérica utilizando o software Deform2D, bem como a realização dos testes físicos por meio de corpos-de-prova de tração entalhados com geometrias variadas. Foram levantadas a curva de fluxo e a anisotropia do material utilizado para a realização da simulação numérica. A partir dessa simulação, foram feitas análises da formação das bandas, utilizando-se vários passos em cada corpo-de-prova e, posteriormente, comparando essa mesma formação entre os corpos-de-prova com geometrias de entalhes diferentes. Por fim, foi verificado que, tanto a formação de bandas de cisalhamento, quanto às características da fratura no material estudado, estão diretamente relacionadas com a forma geométrica do entalhe.

The present study had as main purpose to analyze the formation of shear bands in metallic sheets of low-carbon steel (SAE 1006) submitted to uniaxial tension test. This verification has been made through numerical analysis using the software Deform2D, and the performance of physical tests with the tension's test specimen being notched with varied geometries. The flow curve and the anisotropy of the material used for the realization of numerical simulation have been designed. After this simulation, band formation analysis was performed using varios steps for each sample, and compared with the test specimen of the same formation with different geometrical notches. Finally, it was verified that both the shear band formation and the fracture characteristics of the studied material are directly related with the geometrical shape of the notch.
