RESUMO Objetivo investigar o efeito inibitório da via auditiva eferente na síndrome de Turner e relacionar com o perfil citogenético. Método estudo descritivo transversal com grupo de comparação. Amostra: Grupo estudo formado por 40 pacientes com síndrome de Turner (17,6 anos); e Grupo controle constituído por 54 indivíduos (18,9 anos), do sexo feminino sem síndrome. Os indivíduos selecionados foram submetidos à pesquisa do efeito inibitório da via auditiva eferente. Resultados A média do Efeito inibitório da via auditiva eferente no grupo estudo na orelha direita foi 0,4 dB e no grupo comparação foi de 1,9 dB, entretanto na orelha esquerda a média do efeito inibitório da via auditiva eferente foi 1,4 dB no grupo estudo e 0,8 dB no grupo comparação. O efeito inibitório da via auditiva eferente foi presente em 14 indivíduos com monossomia e em 15 com outras alterações citogenéticas. Conclusão No grupo estudo o valor do efeito inibitório da via auditiva eferente foi significantemente maior na orelha esquerda e significativamente menor que o grupo controle na direita. Não houve diferença significativa no efeito inibitório da via auditiva eferente entre os tipos de cariótipo.

ABSTRACT Purpose The goal of this study is to investigate the efferent auditory pathways inhibition in Turner's syndrome and to relate it to the cytogenetic profile. Methods This is a cross-sectional study with a comparison group. A sample with 94 participants divided into two groups: The study group was a sample of 40 patients diagnosed with Turner’s syndrome (17.6 years of age). The control group was composed of 54 volunteers (18.9 years of age), female, without syndrome. The selected individuals were submitted to efferent auditory pathways inhibition research. Results The mean of the inhibitory effect of the efferent auditory pathway in the study group in the right ear was 0.4 dB and in the comparison group it was 1.9 dB, however in the left ear the mean of the inhibitory effect of the efferent auditory pathway was 1.4 dB in the study group and 0.8 dB in the comparison group. The inhibitory effect of the efferent auditory pathway was present in 14 individuals with monosomy and in 15 with other cytogenetic alterations. Conclusions In the study group, the efferent auditory pathways inhibition value was significantly higher in the left ear and significantly lower than the control group in the right ear. There was no significant difference in efferent auditory pathways inhibition of right ear and left ear between the karyotype types.

Resumo Introdução: A síndrome de Turner é uma alteração frequente e genética que acomete indivíduos do sexo feminino e abrange grande variabilidade fenotípica. A literatura científica sugere uma relação entre perda auditiva e síndrome de Turner, porém ainda é um tema controverso. Objetivo: Relacionar a alteração citogenética com o perfil audiométrico de indivíduos com síndrome de Turner. Método: Estudo transversal, com amostra de conveniência, de base hospitalar. Foram incluídas pacientes com diagnóstico de síndrome de Turner e excluídas as com dificuldade para compreender a audiometria e/ou outras síndromes associadas. As participantes foram submetidas à audiometria tonal. Resultados: Das 65 pacientes incluídas, 36,9% apresentaram monossomia do cromossomo X e 63,0%, outras alterações. Com relação à audiometria, 64,6% apresentaram limiares dentro da normalidade e 35,3% alteração auditiva. Dessas, 30,4% apresentaram perda auditiva híbrida, 26,0% alteração em 6 e/ou 8 KHz; 17,3% perda auditiva condutiva, 13,0% perda neurossensorial e 13,0% perda auditiva mista. Observamos que o grau leve foi o mais frequente. Não foi observada associação estatiscamente significativa entre o tipo citogenético da síndrome de Turner e a presença ou não perda auditiva, ou com o tipo e grau de perda auditiva. Conclusão: A alteração citogenética na síndrome de Turner não teve associação com o perfil audiométrico, o qual apresentou variabilidade quanto ao tipo e grau da perda auditiva.

Abstract Introduction: Turner syndrome is a frequent genetic disorder that affects female individuals and covers a large phenotypic variability. Scientific literature suggests an association between hearing loss and Turner syndrome, but it remains a controversial topic. Objective: To associate the cytogenetic alteration with the audiometric profile of individuals with Turner syndrome. Methods: Cross-sectional study, with a hospital-based, convenience sample. Patients diagnosed with Turner syndrome were included and those with difficulty understanding the audiometry and/or other associated syndromes were excluded. The participants were studied with pure tone audiometry. Results: Of the 65 patients included, 36.9% had X chromosome monosomy and 63.0% had other alterations. Regarding the audiometry, 64.6% had normal thresholds and 35.3% had hearing impairment. Of these, 30.4% had hybrid hearing loss, 26.0% alteration at 6 and/or 8 kHz, 17.3% had conductive hearing loss, 13.0% sensorineural loss and 13.0% had mixed hearing loss. We observed that the mild degree was the most frequent one. There was no statistically significant association between the cytogenetic type of Turner syndrome and the presence or absence of hearing loss, or with the type and degree of hearing loss. Conclusion: The cytogenetic alteration in Turner syndrome was not associated with the audiometric profile, which showed variability regarding the type and degree of hearing loss.

Resumo Objetivo: A distrofia muscular de Duchenne, doença genética ligada ao X, determina fraqueza muscular progressiva principalmente em membros inferiores. Os testes de função motora ajudam a monitorar a progressão da doença. Avaliações simples de baixo custo podem ajudar na suspeita diagnóstica da distrofia muscular de Duchenne? Objetivamos definir a sensibilidade do tempo levantar, tempo andar 10 metros e tempo correr 10 metros, avaliando-os como eventuais ferramentas de triagem diagnóstica. Métodos: Estudo analítico, observacional, retrospectivo (1998 até 2015) e prospectivo (2015 até 2018). Os casos foram recrutados do banco de dados do serviço de neurologia infantil e os saudáveis, de consultas de puericultura, com desenvolvimento de marcha normal (até os 15 meses) e sem outras comorbidades (neuromusculares, pneumopatias, cardiopatias), do mesmo hospital universitário. Resultados: Foram analisados 128 pacientes com distrofia muscular de Duchenne e 344 saudáveis, distribuídos igualmente em faixas etárias. Na distrofia muscular de Duchenne ocorre aumento progressivo das médias dos tempos para realizar as provas motoras, de forma acentuada a partir dos 7 anos. Os saudáveis estabilizam os tempos a partir dos 6 anos, adquirindo capacidade motora máxima. O tempo de levantar apresentou p-valor <0,05 e forte associação (TE >0,8) em todas as faixas etárias (exceto aos 12 anos), tempo de andar 10 metros a partir de 9 anos e o tempo de correr 10 metros, dos 5 anos. Os pontos de 100% sensibilidade foram definidos: tempo de levantar aos 2 segundos; tempo de andar, 5 segundos e tempo de correr 10 metros, 4 segundos. Conclusões: O tempo de levantar é útil e simples na triagem de doenças neuromusculares como a distrofia muscular de Duchenne, doença antes incurável com novas perspectivas de tratamento.

Abstract Objective: Duchenne muscular dystrophy, an X-linked genetic disease, leads to progressive muscle weakness mainly in the lower limbs. Motor function tests help to monitor disease progression. Can low-cost, simple assessments help in the diagnostic suspicion of Duchenne muscular dystrophy? The authors aim to define the sensitivity of time to rise from the floor, time to walk 10 meters, and time to run 10 meters, evaluating them as eventual diagnostic screening tools. Methods: This is an analytical, observational, retrospective (1998-2015), and prospective study (2015-2018). Cases were recruited from the database of the pediatric neurology department and the healthy, from child care consultations, with normal gait development (up to 15 months) and without other comorbidities (neuromuscular, pulmonary, heart diseases) from the same university hospital. Results: 128 Duchenne muscular dystrophy patients and 344 healthy children were analyzed, equally distributed in age groups. In Duchenne muscular dystrophy, there is a progressive increase in the means of the times to perform the motor tests according to the age group, which accelerates very abruptly after 7 years of age. Healthy children acquire maximum motor capacity at 6 years and stabilize their times. The time to rise showed a p-value <0.05 and a strong association (effect size [ES] >0.8) in all age groups (except at 12 years), with time to walk 10 meters from 9 years, and with time to run 10 meters , from 5 years. The 100% sensitivity points were defined as follows: time to rise, at 2 s; time to walk 10 meters, 5 s; time to run 10 meters, 4 s. Conclusions: Time to rise is a useful and simple tool in the screening of neuromuscular disorders such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a previously incurable disease with new perspectives for treatment.

RESUMO O presente estudo visa descrever os benefícios da inserção do fisioterapeuta sobre o perfil de prematuros de baixo risco internados em unidade de terapia intensiva neonatal. Estudo caso-controle, retrospectivo, com consulta aos prontuários de prematuros internados em 2006/2007 sem fisioterapia (PREF) e em 2009/2010 com fisioterapia por até 8h/dia (POSF). Incluíram-se 61 prematuros no período PREF e 93 no POSF, nascidos com ≥1000g, SNAP-PE II <40, com tempo de suporte ventilatório ≥24h. Verificou-se os perfis materno e dos neonatos, tempos de internação, de ventilação mecânica invasiva e não invasiva e de oxigenoterapia. Realizou-se análise descritiva, teste Mann Whitney, teste t, qui-quadrado e Fisher, considerando-se p≤0,05. Houve diferença significativa entre as idades gestacionais [PREF: 230,5 (±16,5)/ POSF: 226 (±15); p=0,05], frequência de sepse [PREF: 6 (10%)/ POSF: 30 (32%); p<0,01], de síndrome do desconforto respiratório [PREF: 11(18%)/ POSF: 43 (46%); p<0,01], necessidade de reanimação na sala de parto [PREF: 10 (16%)/ POSF: 32 (34%); p=0,02], necessidade de intubação orotraqueal [PREF: 8 (13%)/ POSF: 26 (28%); p=0,05], tempo de ventilação não invasiva (PREF: 0,1±0,4 dias/ POSF: 0,8±2,3 dias; p<0,01), de ventilação invasiva (PREF: 0,4±1,3 dias/ POSF: 1,3±3,3 dias; p=0,04), de pressão positiva contínua em vias aéreas (PREF: 1,5±1,0 dias/ POSF: 2,7±3,8 dias; p=0,04). A presença do fisioterapeuta gerou benefícios, contribuindo para a manutenção dos tempos de internação e de oxigenoterapia mesmo diante de um perfil de recém-nascidos mais imaturos e com mais intercorrências no período após a inserção da fisioterapia.

ABSTRACT This study aims to describe the benefits of inserting the physical therapist on the profile of low-risk premature infants in neonatal intensive care units. This is a retrospective control study, with consultation to the medical records of premature infants admitted in 2006/2007 without physical therapy (PREP) and in 2009/2010 with physical therapy for up to 8h/day (POSTP). 61 preterm infants in the PREP period and 93 in the POSTP were included, born with ≥1000g, SNAP-PE II <40, with a duration of ventilatory support ≥24h. Maternal and neonatal profiles, duration of hospitalization, invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation and oxygen therapy were verified. Descriptive analysis, the Mann Whitney test, t-test, Chi-squared and Fisher’s test were performed, considering p≤0.05. There was a significant difference between gestational ages [PREP: 230.5 (±16.5)/POSTP: 226 (±15); p = 0.05], frequency of sepsis [PREP: 6 (10%) / POSTP: 30 (32%); p < 0.01], respiratory distress syndrome [PREP: 11 (18%)/POSTP: 43 (46%); p < 0.01], need for resuscitation in the delivery room [PREP: 10 (16%) / POSTP: 32 (34%); p = 0.02], need for orotracheal intubation [PREP: 8 (13%)/POSTP: 26 (28%); invasive ventilation (PREP: 0.4±1.3 days/POSTP: 1.3±3.3 days, p = 0.04), continuous positive airway pressure (PREP: 1.5±1.0 days/POSTP: 2.7±3.8 days, p = 0.04). The presence of the physical therapist generated benefits, contributing to the maintenance of the length of hospitalization and oxygen therapy in face of a profile of more immature newborns and with more complications in the period after physical therapy was inserted.

RESUMEN El presente estudio describe los beneficios de la inserción del fisioterapeuta sobre el perfil de prematuros de bajo riesgo internados en unidad de terapia intensiva. Estudio caso-control, retrospectivo, con prontuarios de prematuros internados en 2006/2007 (sin fisioterapia - PREF) y en 2009/2010 (con fisioterapia por hasta 8h / día - POSF). Se incluyeron 61 prematuros (PREF) y 93 (POSF), ≥ 1000g, SNAP-PE II <40, con tiempo de soporte ventilatorio ≥ 24h. Se verificaron los perfiles maternos y de los neonatos, tiempos de internación, de ventilación mecánica invasiva y no invasiva y de oxigenoterapia. Se realizó análisis descriptivo, Mann Whitney, t, qui-cuadrado y Fisher, considerando p ≤ 0,05. Se observó diferencia entre las edades gestacionales [PREF: 230,5 (± 16,5) / POSF: 226 (±15); p=0,05], frecuencia de sepsis [PREF: 6 (10%) / POSTP: 30 (32%); p <0,01], síndrome de distrés respiratorio [PREF: 11 (18%) / POSF: 43 (46%); p <0,01], necesidad de reanimación en la sala de parto [PREF: 10 (16%) / POSTP: 32 (34%); p=0,02], necesidad de intubación [PREF: 8 (13%) / POSF: 26 (28%); (p=0,05), tiempo de ventilación no invasiva (PREF: 0,1±0,4 días / POSF: 0,8±2,3 días, p<0,01), ventilación invasiva (PREF: 0, 4±1,3 días / POSF: 1,3±3,3 días, p=0,04). RESUMO Objetivo Descrever a prevalência dos distúrbios da comunicação, deglutição e motricidade orofacial em um grupo de crianças e adolescentes, no momento da matrícula hospitalar em um instituto oncológico. Método Estudo transversal, com a inclusão de crianças com dois anos ou mais e adolescentes de ambos os gêneros, matriculados na Seção de Oncologia Pediátrica do Instituto Nacional de Câncer José de Alencar Gomes da Silva (INCA) no período de março de 2014 a abril de 2015 para investigação e/ou tratamento de tumores sólidos. Foi utilizado um protocolo para registro das informações sociodemográficas e clínicas e os achados da avaliação clínica fonoaudiológica, que contemplava aspectos do sistema sensório-motor oral, deglutição, fala, linguagem, voz e audição. Resultados Oitenta e oito crianças/adolescentes (41,3%) avaliados apresentavam algum tipo de distúrbio fonoaudiológico. As alterações fonoaudiológicas mais frequentes foram o distúrbio miofuncional orofacial, a disfonia e os transtornos de linguagem. Os menos frequentes foram a disacusia, a paralisia de língua e o trismo. A variável clínica que teve associação estatisticamente significante com a presença de alterações fonoaudiológicas foi o local da lesão. Conclusão O estudo demonstrou uma alta prevalência de alterações fonoaudiológicas em crianças e adolescentes no momento da matrícula hospitalar em um hospital oncológico. A ocorrência de transtornos fonoaudiológicos foi maior nos grupos de participantes com lesões localizadas no sistema nervoso central e na região da cabeça e pescoço.

ABSTRACT Purpose Describe the prevalence of communication, swallowing and orofacial myofunctional disorders in a group of children and adolescents at the time of registration at a cancer hospital. Methods A cross-sectional study conducted with children aged ≥2 and adolescents, of both genders, admitted to the Pediatric Oncology Section of the Instituto Nacional de Câncer José de Alencar Gomes da Silva (INCA) from March 2014 to April 2015 for investigation and/or treatment of solid tumors. A protocol was used to record the sociodemographic and clinical information and findings of the speech-language pathology clinical evaluation, which included aspects of the oral sensorimotor system, swallowing, speech, language, voice, and hearing. Results Eighty-eight children/adolescents (41.3%) presented some type of speech-language disorder. The most frequent speech-language disorders were orofacial myofunctional disorder, dysphonia, and language impairments, whereas the less frequent ones were dysacusis, tongue paralysis, and trismus. Site of the lesion was the clinical variable that presented statistically significant correlation with presence of speech-language disorders. Conclusion High prevalence of speech-language disorders was observed in children and adolescents at the time of admission at a cancer hospital. Occurrence of speech-language disorders was higher in participants with lesions in the central nervous system and in the head and neck region.

RESUMO O presente trabalho é um relato de caso que descreve os achados fonoaudiológicos e de qualidade de vida apresentados por uma adolescente com um tumor do sistema nervoso central acometida pela mielinólise extrapontina. A mielinólise extrapontina é uma doença desmielinizante aguda que pode ser causada por variações abruptas na osmolaridade sérica, como o que ocorre na rápida correção da hiponatremia. Os dados foram obtidos a partir da avaliação clínica fonoaudiológica, de questionários pediátricos sobre a qualidade de vida e dados contidos no prontuário médico. A paciente apresentou mutismo, disartria e disfagia decorrentes da mielinólise extrapontina, com impactos significativos na sua comunicação verbal, alimentação e qualidade de vida. Os escores de qualidade de vida após a mielinólise extrapontina apresentaram piora quando comparados aos do período anterior à doença. Recebeu atendimento fonoaudiológico hospitalar e ambulatorial. Foram observadas evoluções nos padrões de fala, deglutição e mobilidade das estruturas orofaciais, com reversão parcial dos déficits neurológicos. A atuação fonoaudiológica, como parte de uma equipe multiprofissional de saúde, é de grande importância na reabilitação funcional dos pacientes acometidos por esta doença.

ABSTRACT This paper is a case report describing the speech-language and quality of life outcomes presented by a teenager with a central nervous system germ cell tumor affected by extrapontine myelinolysis. The extrapontine myelinolysis is an acute demyelinating disease that can be caused by abrupt changes in serum osmolality, as in the rapid correction of hyponatremia. Data were obtained from clinical assessment protocols, pediatric inventory about quality of life and medical records information. The patient presented mutism, dysphagia and dysarthria caused by extrapontine myelinolysis, with significant impacts on their verbal communication, feeding and quality of life. The scores of quality of life after extrapontine myelinolysis decreased compared to the time before the disease. She received speech-language therapy during hospital admission and in the outpatient clinic. We observed changes in patterns of speech, swallowing and mobility of orofacial structures; with partially reverse of neurological deficits. The speech therapists, as part of a multidisciplinary team of health care, are of great importance in the functional rehabilitation of patients affected by this disease.

RESUMO Introdução O Relatório Flexner é considerado o ponto de partida para a discussão do ensino da medicina no século XX. Após amplas discussões, em 2001, o Ministério da Educação homologa as Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais do Curso de Graduação em Medicina (DCN). Tais diretrizes objetivam a formação de um médico generalista, humanista, reflexivo, crítico, que atue como promotor da saúde integral do ser humano. A Pediatria é a área da medicina onde a promoção da saúde integral é de extrema importância, pois a criança é o adulto do futuro. Objetivo Discutir as questões: O que se espera do médico geral, em relação à Pediatria, no século XXI? E a questão dela derivada: Mudanças nas diretrizes para o ensino de Pediatria são necessárias a partir das DCN? Métodos Ensaio reflexivo com base em dois documentos: Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais do Curso de Graduação em Medicina (DCN) e Diretrizes para o Ensino de Pediatria (DEP) propostas por Eduardo Marcondes. Discussão Este artigo discorre a respeito das percepções de Marcondes acerca do ensino de Pediatria, correlacionando-as com as DCN e discutindo aspectos importantes na formação do médico, tais como: promoção, prevenção, proteção e reabilitação em saúde e educação médica em Pediatria. Considerações finais As Diretrizes para o Ensino de Pediatria propostas por Marcondes em 1993 parecem se manter extremamente atuais no contexto brasileiro do século XXI, ressalvando-se apenas diferenças de mortalidade e morbidade infantil.

ABSTRACT Introduction The Flexner report is considered the starting point for the discussion on the teaching of medicine in the 20th century. Following broad debate in 2001, the Ministry of Education approved the National Curricular Guidelines (DCNs) for the Undergraduate Course in Medicine. These guidelines are aimed at forming general, humanistic, reflective and critical physicians, to act as promoters of comprehensive human health. Pediatrics is a medical area where the promotion of comprehensive health is extremely important, since a child is a future adult. Objective Discuss issues like ‘What is expected from a pediatric general practitioner, in the 21st century?’ And the follow-on question: ‘Is it necessary to make changes in pediatric training through the National Curricular Guidelines?’ Methods Reflexive study based on two documents: the National Curricular Guidelines for the Undergraduate Course in Medicine and the Guidelines for Teaching Pediatrics proposed by Eduardo Marcondes. Discussion This article presents Marcondes’ views on the teaching of pediatrics in relation to the DCNs. It also discusses important aspects of the doctor´s training, such as health promotion, prevention, protection and rehabilitation and pediatric medical training. Final considerations The Guidelines for Teaching Pediatrics suggested by Marcondes in 1993 remain highly relevant to 21st century Brazil, with exception only to differences in infant mortality and morbidity rates.

Diante das políticas públicas, as maternidades que estavam inseridas na rede iniciaram processo de implantação do serviço de Triagem Auditiva Neonatal (TAN), como ocorrido Município do Rio de Janeiro. Para TAN utiliza-se o exame de Emissões Otoacústicas por ser um método rápido, de alta fidedignidade, fácil execução, com resultados objetivos. O objetivo deste artigo é conhecer melhor a assistência e o cuidado à saúde auditiva dos RN nas maternidades da Rede Municipal de Saúde. Estudo observacional, descritivo, transversal, análise descritiva com distribuição de frequências, e teve como objeto as Maternidades da Secretaria Municipal de Saúde-RJ que realizavam TAN. Foram identificadas três maternidades com TAN (A, B e C). Nelas foram registrados 1.865 RN vivos. Destes, o total que realizou triagem foi de 40,5%. Nas maternidades A e B, 54,6% realizaram TAN e destes, 97,3% passaram na TAN e apenas 1,7% falharam e precisariam ser encaminhados para o serviço de alta complexidade. A TAN é o início do Programa de Atenção a Saúde Auditiva do RN. É importante que os serviços de TAN funcionem integrados à rede através do Programa de Atenção à Saúde Auditiva.</p>

<p>Hearing deficiencies are a prevalent disease and justify the need for regulation of the Laws and their execution through Hearing Health Care Ordinances. In line with public policies, maternity hospitals that were part of the network began to implement the Newborn Hearing Screening (NHS) service, as had occurred in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The otoacoustic emissions test is used for NHS as it is a rapid and highly reliable method that is easy to perform and gives objective results. The scope of this article is to get fully acquainted with the assistance and care for the hearing health of newborns in maternity wards of the Municipal Health Grid. It is an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional analysis with frequency distribution, and was conducted at SMS-RJ Maternity hospitals that perform NHS. Three maternity hospitals with NHS (A, B and C) were identified, in which 1,865 live newborns were recorded. Of this total, 40.5% performed the NHS exam. In maternity hospitals A and B, the NHS exam was applied to 54.6%, of which 97.3% passed and only 1.8% failed and needed to be referred to the high complexity unit. The NHS is the initial stage of the Hearing Health Care Program for the newborn. It is important that the NHS services should be fully integrated into the network through the Hearing Health Care Program.</p>

Hearing deficiencies are a prevalent disease and justify the need for regulation of the Laws and their execution through Hearing Health Care Ordinances. In line with public policies, maternity hospitals that were part of the network began to implement the Newborn Hearing Screening (NHS) service, as had occurred in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The otoacoustic emissions test is used for NHS as it is a rapid and highly reliable method that is easy to perform and gives objective results. The scope of this article is to get fully acquainted with the assistance and care for the hearing health of newborns in maternity wards of the Municipal Health Grid. It is an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional analysis with frequency distribution, and was conducted at SMS-RJ Maternity hospitals that perform NHS. Three maternity hospitals with NHS (A, B and C) were identified, in which 1,865 live newborns were recorded. Of this total, 40.5% performed the NHS exam. In maternity hospitals A and B, the NHS exam was applied to 54.6%, of which 97.3% passed and only 1.8% failed and needed to be referred to the high complexity unit. The NHS is the initial stage of the Hearing Health Care Program for the newborn. It is important that the NHS services should be fully integrated into the network through the Hearing Health Care Program.

Descrição de caso de neurofibroma plexiforme localizado na região pélvica comprometendo bexiga, próstata e coluna lombossacra, com evolução de três anos e seis meses. Diante de contraindicação de remoção cirúrgica, foi realizado acompanhamento clínico e radiológico semestral, sem constatação de crescimento tumoral. Na neurofibromatose tipo 1, as manifestações clínicas são diversas e a equipe médica deve estar atenta à investigação complementar e pode ser surpreendida por um achado raro. As massas pélvicas volumosas podem, eventualmente, corresponder a neurofibromas plexiformes, sendo útil a investigação de neurofibromatose caso o paciente ainda não tenha esse diagnóstico.

The authors report the case of a plexiform neurofibroma located in the pelvis, affecting the bladder, prostate and spine (lumbar/sacral), followed-up for three years and six months. Surgical removal was contraindicated and the patient underwent biannual clinical and radiological follow-up that did not demonstrate any tumor increase. The clinical manifestations of neurofibromatosis type 1 are variable, and the medical team should be attentive to further investigations, considering possible unexpected rare findings. Large pelvic masses may correspond to plexiform neurofibromas, so the diagnostic hypothesis of neurofibromatosis should be taken into consideration.

OBJETIVO: Fazer um levantamento da literatura médica destinada ao estudo das disfunções cognitivas nos pacientes com distrofia muscular de Duchenne, através da descrição dos marcos do desenvolvimento neuropsicomotor e dos testes psicométricos para quantificação da inteligência. FONTES DOS DADOS: Revisão não sistemática sobre os aspectos da cognição na distrofia muscular de Duchenne nas principais bases médicas científicas: MEDLINE, LILACS, Biblioteca Cochrane e SciELO. SÍNTESE DOS DADOS: Os pacientes com distrofia muscular de Duchenne apresentaram atraso para marcha e desenvolvimento da linguagem, os quais se correlacionaram a menores pontuações nos testes de inteligência no futuro. Há marcante disfunção nos subtestes das habilidades verbais. CONCLUSÕES: A média do coeficiente de inteligência encontra-se com um desvio padrão abaixo da média populacional. Quanto maior a disfunção cognitiva, piores serão os aspectos relacionados à morbidade e mortalidade na doença.

OBJECTIVE: To survey the medical literature directed to the study of cognitive dysfunction in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy through description of the milestones of neurological development and psychometric tests for quantifying intelligence. SOURCES: Non-systematic review of aspects of cognition in Duchenne muscular dystrophy in the major medical scientific bases: MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO and Cochrane Library. SUMMARY OF THE FINDINGS: Patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy exhibited delay in walking and language development, which correlated with lower scores on future intelligence tests. There is marked impairment in the verbal subtests. CONCLUSIONS: Average IQ has standard deviation below the average of the population. The greater the cognitive impairment, the worse aspects related to morbidity and mortality in the disease will be.
