ABSTRACT Purpose To validate the appearance and content of the DHACA method to develop communication skills in autism. Methods This qualitative and quantitative validation study included 10 speech-language-hearing judges with expertise in alternative communication. The judges received the communication book, the description of the principles, skills, and strategies in the DHACA method, and a form with items for them to appraise the appearance and content of the method. The validity was calculated with the content validity index. Results The response analysis made it possible to calculate the degree of agreement between judges and develop the new instrument version. The calculation of the content validity index revealed excellent content validity. The judges made suggestions regarding the content of the communication book, texts regarding the participation of communication partners and modeling, using cues, and communicative skills. Conclusion The degree of agreement between judges ensured the validation of the appearance and content of the DHACA method, considering the items alone and the whole instrument. Hence, its use can be recommended for speech-language-hearing clinical practice.

RESUMO Objetivo Validar a aparência e o conteúdo do método de Desenvolvimento das Habilidades de Comunicação no Autismo (DHACA). Método Trata-se de estudo de validação de abordagem quali-quantitativa. Participaram do estudo dez juízes fonoaudiólogos com expertise na área da comunicação alternativa. Os juízes receberam o livro de comunicação, bem como a descrição dos princípios, habilidades e estratégias do método DHACA e um formulário com itens relativos à apreciação da aparência e conteúdo do método. A validade foi calculada usando o índice de validade de conteúdo. Resultados A análise das respostas possibilitou o cálculo do grau de concordância entre os juízes e a elaboração da nova versão do instrumento. O cálculo do Índice de Validade de Conteúdo revelou uma validade de conteúdo excelente. Os juízes deram sugestões referentes aos aspectos de conteúdo do livro de comunicação, nos textos de participação do parceiro de comunicação e modelagem, uso de dicas e habilidades comunicativas. Conclusão O grau de concordância observado entre os juízes possibilitou a obtenção da validação da aparência e do conteúdo do método DHACA, considerando-se os itens isoladamente e o instrumento como um todo, podendo ter seu uso recomendado na prática clínica fonoaudiológica.

ABSTRACT Purpose To determine evidence of concurrent and predictive criterion validity of the Communication Screening Instrument for children aged 0 to 36 months (IRC-36). Methods 78 parents/guardians of children who attend the childcare service of the Family Health Centers participated in the research, in addition to 33 children aged between 0 and 36 months, invited to the second stage of the study. In its first stage, 13 health professionals were trained to apply the IRC-36 to the children's parents/guardians. In the second moment, the parents responded to a new IRC-36 application, and the children were evaluated with Denver II. Results IRC-36 correlated with Denver II in more than half of the cases, confirming the instrument’s concurrent criterion validity. IRC-36 results in the first stage did not significantly correlate with Denver II. The instrument's cutoff value was 12, which is the reference value between children at risk and not at risk of communication disorders. The instrument had high sensitivity and an accuracy value within the recommended levels. The occurrence of risk of communication changes was higher in the second IRC-36 application. Conclusion The study presented evidence of concurrent criterion validity, indicating that the instrument has evidence of accuracy and validity measures to screen communication in children aged 0 to 36 months, being able to identify the risk for communication disorders.

RESUMO Objetivo Determinar evidências de validade de critério concorrente e preditiva do Instrumento de Rastreio da Comunicação de crianças de 0 a 36 meses (IRC-36). Método Participaram da pesquisa 78 pais/responsáveis de crianças que frequentam o serviço de puericultura das Unidades de Saúde da Família, além de 33 crianças com idades entre 0 e 36 meses, convidadas para segunda etapa do estudo. Na primeira etapa do estudo, 13 profissionais de saúde foram treinados para realizar a aplicação do IRC-36 nos pais/responsáveis das crianças. No segundo momento, os pais responderam a uma nova aplicação do IRC-36 e as crianças foram avaliadas com o Denver II. Resultados O IRC-36 apresentou correlação com o Denver II em mais da metade dos casos, confirmando a validade de critério concorrente do instrumento. Os resultados do IRC-36 da primeira etapa quando correlacionados com o Denver II, não apresentaram valores significativos. O valor de ponto de corte do instrumento foi 12, sendo este o valor de referência entre crianças em risco e sem risco para alteração da comunicação. O instrumento apresentou valor de acurácia dentro dos níveis preconizados e alta sensibilidade. A ocorrência de risco para alteração da comunicação apresentou-se maior na segunda aplicação do IRC-36. Conclusão O estudo apresentou evidências de validade de critério concorrente, indicando que o instrumento possui evidências de medidas de acurácia e de validade para o rastreio da comunicação de crianças de 0 a 36 meses sendo capaz de identificar risco para as alterações da comunicação.

ABSTRACT This paper aimed to investigate the contribution of speech-language-hearing teletherapy to the development of communication skills in children with autism spectrum disorders during the coronavirus-19 pandemic. This qualitative, interventive, longitudinal case series study analyzed data from the medical records of patients, based on instructions given to their families via speech-language-hearing teletherapy during social isolation. It was part of a public outreach program conducted in a speech-language-hearing teaching clinic, aiming to analyze results in the field of language. All children progressed in various aspects, such as the development of communication skills, expanded vocabulary, increased naming and asking, morphosyntactic development, and advancements in the use of augmentative and alternative communication. Also, shared attention and eye contact increased, the interaction with the family improved, and inadequate behaviors decreased; there was greater autonomy in daily routine and greater attention during activities; increased interest in toys during play and longer and more frequent playing, associated with decreased screen time. In conclusion, the results demonstrated progress in communication and social interaction after the speech-language-hearing teletherapy for children presented with autism spectrum disorders during the coronavirus-19 pandemic.

RESUMO Esse trabalho teve por objetivo investigar a contribuição da Telefonoaudiologia no desenvolvimento das habilidades comunicacionais de crianças com Transtorno do Espectro do Autismo durante a pandemia da Coronavírus-19. Trata-se de um estudo interventivo, longitudinal de abordagem qualitativa, do tipo série de casos, realizado por meio da análise de dados dos prontuários de pacientes atendidos, a partir das orientações às famílias, via telefonoaudiologia, passadas durante o período de isolamento social, em um projeto de extensão, realizado em uma clínica-escola de Fonoaudiologia, buscando analisar os resultados obtidos na área da linguagem. Foi observada evolução em todas as crianças, em diversos aspectos, como desenvolvimento das habilidades comunicativas com ampliação do vocabulário, aumento de nomeações e solicitações, desenvolvimento morfossintático e avanços no uso da Comunicação Aumentativa e Alternativa. Além do aumento na atenção compartilhada e no contato visual, houve melhora na interação com os familiares e redução dos comportamentos inadequados; maior autonomia na rotina diária e maior atenção durante as atividades; aumento do interesse pelos brinquedos durante a brincadeira e ampliação da frequência e do tempo do brincar, associado à diminuição do uso de telas. Concluiu-se que os resultados demonstraram avanços na comunicação e na interação social, após o teleconsulta fonoaudiológico para crianças com Transtorno do Espectro do Autismo durante a pandemia da Coronavírus-19.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to investigate preschoolers’ cognitive-linguistic performance in different educational settings. Methods: thirty-nine children aged 4:0 to 5:11 years, enrolled in two private preschools from different Brazilian regions, were assessed with the Protocol for the Early Identification of Reading Problems, in the version adapted to preschool - which includes the following tests: alphabet knowledge; metaphonological skills; phonological working memory; rapid automatized naming; silent word reading; and hearing sentence comprehension based on figures. The groups were compared with the Mann-Whitney statistical test, and significant differences were set at p < 0.05. Results: as expected, data revealed different performances between preschoolers from the two schools. The worse results in both were related to rhyme production and rhyme identification, which reveals that phonological awareness is probably not being stimulated in these groups. Participants performed as expected or “under attention” in the other skills. Conclusion: the performances of preschoolers from both schools were identified and classified, revealing differences in cognitive-linguistic performances between the different educational settings. These results ratify the importance of a teaching approach that helps develop cognitive-linguistic skills, early in preschool.

RESUMO Objetivo: investigar o desempenho cognitivo-linguístico de pré-escolares em diferentes contextos educacionais. Métodos: participaram do estudo 39 crianças, com idades entre 4:0 e 5:11 anos, matriculadas na pré-escola de duas escolas particulares, localizadas em diferentes regiões brasileiras. Os pré-escolares foram avaliados por meio do Protocolo de Identificação Precoce de Problemas de Leitura - IPPL, na versão adaptada para a Educação Infantil, que inclui provas de: conhecimento do alfabeto; habilidades metafonológicas; memória operacional fonológica; nomeação automática rápida; leitura silenciosa de palavras e compreensão auditiva de sentenças a partir de figuras. Os grupos foram comparados por meio do teste estatístico Mann-Whitney, considerando-se significativas diferenças com p<0,05. Resultados: como esperado, os dados revelaram diferenças de desempenho entre os pré-escolares das duas escolas. Verificou-se que os piores resultados, em ambas as escolas, foram relacionados às habilidades de produção de rima e identificação de rima, o que revela que a consciência fonológica não deve estar sendo estimulada nesses grupos. Nas demais habilidades os participantes apresentaram desempenhos dentro do esperado ou sob atenção. Conclusão: foi possível identificar e classificar o desempenho dos pré-escolares de ambas as escolas, havendo diferenças no desempenho cognitivo-linguístico em diferentes contextos educacionais. Tais resultados ratificam a importância de uma abordagem de ensino que promova o desenvolvimento de habilidades cognitivo-linguísticas desde a Educação Infantil.

Abstract Objective: To investigate ocular movements measures of vectoelectro-nystagmography and video-nystagmography in dyslexic children and compare with measures of typical children. Methods: A systematic review of observational studies comparing the ocular movements differences between dyslexic and typical children with no publication date or language restriction. The literature survey included the bibliographic databases MEDLINE, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Web of Science, SciELO, Lilacs and CENTRAL. Gray literature databases were also searched, including: OpenGrey.eu, DissOnline.de, The New York Academy of Medicine and WorldCat. The meta-analysis was performed using software RevMan 5.3 (Cochran Collaboration). Results: A total of 2375 articles were found of which 113 fell within the inclusion criteria. Among these, 52 were duplicates (found in more than one research source), and 45 articles were selected for reading in full. Thirteen (13) articles were included for analysis and discussion. Meta-analysis showed statistical differences between the two groups for the total number of saccades and duration of fixation. Conclusion: The study revealed that children with dyslexia have longer duration of fixation and fewer saccades during ocular movements on vectoelectro-nystagmography and videonystagmography when compared to children without dyslexia.

Resumo O objetivo do estudo foi investigar o conhecimento de professores da Rede Municipal de Ensino do Recife sobre a relação das habilidades auditivas e linguísticas com a aprendizagem, sobre a fonoaudiologia educacional e o perfil de formação dos professores dos primeiros anos da escolarização básica do Brasil. Trata-se de um estudo exploratório quantitativo e qualitativo, realizado com 488 professores que lecionam na rede pública de ensino do município de Recife/PE/Brasil. Os dados foram recolhidos por meio de um questionário estruturado, aplicado durante encontros mensais de formação continuada para professores. Os resultados revelaram que os professores reconhecem, de um modo geral, a importância da audição e da linguagem para a aprendizagem, embora não se sintam preparados para lidar com isso na escola e, como esperado, não possuem conhecimentos mais específicos sobre o processamento auditivo. Consequentemente, os encaminhamentos para especialistas da saúde são frequentes diante dos problemas de aprendizagem, desconsiderando as habilidades auditivas. Conclui-se que os professores reconhecem a importância do tema abordado; contudo, demonstram não ter domínio sobre a relevância das habilidades auditivas e linguísticas para a aprendizagem e para o desenvolvimento do estudante, bem como conhecimentos sobre o papel do fonoaudiólogo no âmbito escolar.

Resumo El objetivo de este estudio fue investigar el conocimiento de los profesores sobre la relación de las habilidades auditivas y lingüísticas con el aprendizaje, acerca de la fonoaudiología educacional y el perfil de formación de los profesores que actúan en los primeros años de la escolarización básica de Brasil. Se trata de un estudio exploratorio cuantitativo y cualitativo, realizado con 488 profesores que imparten clases en la red de enseñanza pública del Ayuntamiento de Recife, Comunidad de Pernambuco, en Brasil. Los datos fueron recogidos por medio de un cuestionario estructurado, aplicado durante las reuniones mensuales de educación continua para los maestros. Los datos revelan que los profesores reconocen, de manera general, la importancia de la audición y el lenguaje para el aprendizaje, aunque no se sientan preparados para lidiar con ello en la escuela y, como era de esperar, no poseen conocimientos más específicos sobre el procesamiento auditivo. En consecuencia, el envío a especialistas es frecuente ante los problemas de aprendizaje, ignorando las habilidades auditivas. Se concluye que los profesores reconocen la importancia del tema abordado, sin embargo, no demuestran ningún dominio sobre la relevancia de las habilidades auditivas y lingüísticas para el aprendizaje, para el desarrollo del estudiante, y sobre el papel del terapeuta del habla en el entorno escolar.

Abstract The objective of this study was to investigate teachers' knowledge about the relationship between hearing and language capabilities in the learning process, educational speech therapy, and the training profile of teachers in the early years of basic schooling in Brazil. It is an exploratory quantitative and qualitative study conducted with 488 teachers of the public-school system of the county of Recife/PE/Brazil. The data were collected through a structured questionnaire survey applied during monthly continued education meetings for teachers. The results of the survey revealed that teachers generally recognize the importance of this study subject; however, they do not feel prepared to deal with it at school and do not have specific knowledge about hearing processing. Consequently, referrals to health specialists because of learning problems are frequent without considering hearing capabilities. The study showed that teachers know the importance of the subject and do not have expertise on the relevance of hearing and language capabilities for learning and student development and the role of the speech therapist in the school environment.

Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has grown exponentially over the past few decades. With a multifactorial cause, the diagnosis of ASD is essentially clinical, but it is known that early diagnosis contributes to a better prognosis. The educational context is conducive to tracking signs of ASD in preschool children, however, there are no instruments with this function. OBJECTIVE: verify the evidence of content validity of an instrument to identify signs for ASD in the educational context. METHOD: the elaboration of the instrument consisted of developing the questions, submitting the questions to a committee of expert judges and subsequent evaluation by members of the target population. For content evaluation, 15 judges with expertise in ASD participated, who judged the items from the first version of the instrument as to their relevance and representativeness for a given concept. The second stage included the participation of 10 preschool teachers who evaluated the items from the second version regarding the understanding of the items. The third stage included the participation of two specialists and early childhood education teachers. RESULTS: Literature investigation allowed the construction of the first version of the instrument, composed of two categories: Social communication and Social interaction and Behavior patterns. In the stage of analysis of questions by judges, the IVC and IVC-I indices showed high agreement among experts. However, some items needed to be adjusted, and a second version was proposed. The analysis stage by members of the target population revealed that the vast majority of items were understood by the evaluators, requiring some adjustments, which culminated in the elaboration of the third version. Finally, the analysis of the third version of the instrument by two specialists and by the group of early childhood education teachers indicated the need for changes, resulting in the fourth version of the instrument. CONCLUSION: The elaborated instrument showed evidence of content validity, and should proceed to the next validation steps.

El trastorno del espectro autista (TEA) ha mostrado un crecimiento exponencial durante las últimas décadas. Con una causa multifactorial, el diagnóstico de TEA es fundamentalmente clínico, pero se sabe que el diagnóstico precoz contribuye a un mejor pronóstico. El contexto educativo es propicio para el seguimiento de los signos de TEA en niños en edad preescolar, sin embargo, no existen instrumentos para tal fin. OBJETIVO: verificar la evidencia de validez de contenido de un instrumento de identificación de signos de TEA en el contexto educativo. MÉTODO: el desarrollo del instrumento consistió en desarrollar las preguntas, someter las preguntas a un comité de jueces expertos y posterior evaluación por parte de los miembros de la población objetivo. Para la evaluación de contenido participaron 15 jueces con experiencia en TEA, quienes juzgaron los ítems de la primera versión del instrumento en cuanto a su relevancia y representatividad para un concepto dado. La segunda etapa contó con la participación de 10 maestros de preescolar que evaluaron los ítems de la segunda versión encuanto a la comprensión de los ítems. La tercera etapa contó con la participación de dos especialistas y docentes de educación infantil. RESULTADOS: La investigación de la literatura permitió la construcción de la primera versión del instrumento, que consta de dos categorías: Comunicación social e Interacción social y Patrones de conducta. En la etapa de análisis de preguntas por jueces, los índices IVC y IVC-I mostraron alta concordancia entre expertos. Sin embargo, algunos elementos debían ajustarse y se propuso una segunda versión. La etapa de análisis por parte de los miembros de la población objetivo reveló que la gran mayoría de losítems fueron comprendidos por los evaluadores, requiriendo algunos ajustes, que culminaron con la elaboración de la tercera versión. Finalmente, el análisis de la tercera versión del instrumento por dos especialistas y por el grupo de docentes de educación infantil indicó la necesidad de cambios, resultando en la cuarta versión del instrumento. CONCLUSIÓN: El instrumento desarrollado mostró evidencia de validez de contenido y debe continuar con los siguientes pasos de validación.

Objetivo: verificar a evidência de validade de conteúdo de um instrumento para identificação de sinais para o TEA no contexto educacional. Método: a elaboração do instrumento consistiu do desenvolvimento das questões, submissão das questões a um comitê de juízes especialistas e subsequente avaliação pelos membros da população alvo. Para avaliação do conteúdo participaram 15 juízes com expertise em TEA, que julgaram os itens da primeira versão do instrumento quanto à relevância e representatividade para um determinado conceito. A segunda etapa contou com a participação de 10 professores da educação infantil que avaliaram os itens da segunda versão quanto à compreensão dos itens. A terceira etapa contou com a participação de duas especialistas e de professores da educação infantil. Resultados: A investigação da literatura permitiu a construção da primeira versão do instrumento composta por duas categorias: Comunicação social e Interação social e Padrões de comportamento. Na etapa de análise das questões por juízes, os índices IVC e IVC-I evidenciaram alta concordância entre os especialistas. Contudo, houve necessidade de ajuste de alguns itens, sendo proposta uma segunda versão. A etapa de análise por membros da população alvo revelou que a grande maioria dos itens eram compreendidos pelos avaliadores, havendo necessidade de alguns ajustes, que culminaram na elaboração da terceira versão. Por fim, a análise da terceira versão do instrumento por duas especialistas e pelo grupo de professores da educação infantil indicaram necessidade de mudanças, resultando na quarta versão do instrumento. Conclusão: O instrumento elaborado mostrou evidências de validade de conteúdo, devendo seguir para as próximas etapas de validação.

RESUMO Objetivo: investigar o conhecimento de professores sobre a Fonoaudiologia Educacional e sobre a importância das habilidades auditivas e linguísticas para aprendizagem, comparando as respostas dos docentes entre escola pública e privada. Métodos: estudo exploratório de abordagem mista, quantitativa e qualitativa, realizado com 25 professores que lecionam na Educação Infantil e Ensino Fundamental I. A coleta de dados foi realizada mediante um questionário composto por 19 perguntas fechadas, que exploraram a relação entre linguagem, audição e aprendizagem e 01 pergunta aberta, que abordou o conhecimento sobre a Fonoaudiologia Educacional. Os dados quantitativos foram analisados por meio de análises estatísticas descritivas e inferenciais e os qualitativos por meio de análise de conteúdo na modalidade temática. Resultados: os professores reconhecem, de modo geral, a importância da audição e linguagem para a aprendizagem, embora não se sintam preparados para lidar com isso na escola e não possuam conhecimentos mais específicos sobre o processamento auditivo. Os resultados obtidos na pergunta aberta também revelaram um conhecimento limitado sobre a Fonoaudiologia Educacional e a principal fonte de conhecimento foi a experiência prévia de alguns professores com trabalho do fonoaudiólogo inserido no contexto educacional. Não foram observadas diferenças importantes entre as repostas dos docentes de escolas pública e privada. Conclusão: os conhecimentos dos professores acerca da Fonoaudiologia Educacional e da importância da audição e linguagem para a aprendizagem ainda são limitados, sendo necessários maiores investimentos em formações nesta área.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to investigate the teachers’ knowledge on educational speech-language-hearing pathology and the importance of auditory and linguistic skills to learning, comparing the answers of public-school teachers with those of private ones. Methods: an exploratory study with a mixed quantitative and qualitative approach, conducted with 25 teachers working in kindergarten and elementary school. Data were collected with a questionnaire comprising 19 closed-ended questions (which dealt with the relationship between language, hearing, and learning) and one open-ended question (which approached their knowledge on educational speech-language-hearing pathology. The quantitative data were analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistical analyses, and the qualitative ones, with theme modality content analysis. Results: in general, the teachers recognize the importance of hearing and language to learning, although they do not feel prepared to deal with it at school, neither do they have more specific knowledge of auditory processing. The results obtained in the open-ended question revealed an also limited knowledge on educational speech-language-hearing pathology. In this sense, their greatest source of information was some teachers’ previous experience with the work of a speech-language-hearing pathologist within the educational setting. No important differences were observed between the answers given by public school teachers and those by private ones. Conclusion: the teachers’ knowledge on educational speech-language-hearing pathology and the importance of hearing and language to learning is still limited, which requires more investment in the training in this field.

RESUMO Objetivo: elaborar um instrumento de rastreio com fins de identificação do risco para gagueira do desenvolvimento em crianças pré-escolares. Métodos: os procedimentos foram divididos em duas etapas: A primeira etapa - teórica, consistiu na revisão da literatura e a construção dos itens que compõe o instrumento; A segunda etapa - validação de conteúdo, consistiu da análise do instrumento por um comitê de juízes composto por 10 fonoaudiólogas atuantes na área da Fluência. Para análise dos dados foi calculado o índice de validade de conteúdo por item (IVC-I) e pelo total de respostas (IVC-T), bem como realizada uma análise da confiabilidade dos itens por meio do alfa de Cronbach. Resultados: o Instrumento de Rastreio para a Gagueira do Desenvolvimento (IRGD) foi composto por 24 itens distribuídos em quatro categorias-chaves. Os índices IVC-I e IVC-T evidenciaram alta concordância entre os juízes. Os coeficientes do alfa de Cronbach indicaram alta consistência interna entre as respostas dos juízes em 19 dos 24 itens. A análise qualitativa destacou a necessidade de novos ajustes. Todas as análises possibilitaram a construção da segunda versão do instrumento. Conclusão: o instrumento proposto mostrou evidências de validade baseada no conteúdo que permitiram, até o momento, ajustá-lo em relação ao seu construto. Sugere-se a continuidade do processo de validação por meio do emprego de novas medidas de acurácia.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to develop a screening instrument to identify the risk of developmental stuttering in preschoolers. Methods: the procedures were divided into two stages: The first one (theoretical), consisted of the literature review and the construction of the items that make up the instrument; the second stage (content validation), consisted of the analysis of the instrument by a judging committee formed by 10 speech-language-hearing therapists who work in the field of fluency. The data analysis was based on the calculation of the item content validity index (I-CVI) and the total number of answers (T-CVI). Also, an item reliability analysis was conducted with Cronbach’s alpha. Results: the Developmental Stuttering Screening Instrument (DSSI) encompassed 24 items distributed into four key categories. The I-CVI and T-CVI revealed a high agreement between the judges. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficients indicated a high internal consistency between the judges’ answers in 19 of the 24 items. The qualitative analysis pointed to the need for new adjustments. All the analyses contributed to the construction of the second version of the instrument. Conclusion: the proposed instrument showed content-based validity evidence that made it possible, up to the present moment, to adjust it to its construct. It is suggested that the validation process continue, employing new accuracy measures.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to verify the sensitivity and accuracy measures of the Developmental Stuttering Screening Instrument (DSSI). Methods: the DSSI was administered to 30 parents/guardians of children aged 2 to 5 years and 11 months with and without complaint of stuttering. The instrument administration was timed. The sensitivity analysis used the Weight of Evidence (WoE) binary classification model to verify the strength level of the items. The cutoff scores were established with grouping analysis with the k-means cluster method, based on the minimum and maximum values of each identified group’s scores. The data were analyzed with the SPSS statistical software (version 20.0) and were considered significant with p ≤ 0.05. Results: the interviews lasted an overall mean of 17 minutes. The WoE model revealed that the items with the greatest predictive strength for risk of stuttering were the social reaction to their speech, the physical concomitants, and the comprehension of the child’s speech. The correspondence analysis showed a strong association between “having complaints” and “high total score”, as well as between “not having complaints” and “low total score”, indicating that the parents’ complaints are a factor that leads to high scores in the instrument. “Sex” had little predictive effect for risk. The grouping analysis enabled the stratification of subjects into three risk levels: “not at risk”, “under observation”, and “at risk”. Conclusion: the instrument presented the first evidence of sensitivity and accuracy measures, thus, making the identification of risk of developmental stuttering in preschoolers, possible.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to investigate the relation between forward masking and cognitive-language skills in children as a function of literacy stage. Methods: twenty-seven children registered in literacy stage at public schools, aged from 6 to 9 years old, with no learning difficulties or audiological problems reported, participated in this study. Frequency Following Responses were registered in two test conditions: 1) /da/ alone; 2) /da/ presented 4 milliseconds after a speech noise. Two language protocols were applied: a cognitive-linguistic skills protocol and a phonological awareness one. Results: forward masking was evident in Frequency Following Responses of all children regardless of literacy stage. Frequency Following Responses latencies in both testing conditions showed no difference among participants’ age. Cognitive-language skills scores were below those expected for all children, with significant improvement noticed as a function of age. No correlation between language performance and forward masking was found. Conclusion: there was no relation between forward masking and cognitive-language skills in children, as a function of literacy stage.

RESUMO Objetivo: caracterizar o desempenho cognitivo-linguístico de escolares no ciclo de alfabetização, a fim de identificar escolares em risco para os transtornos de aprendizagem no contexto da escola pública. Métodos: participaram do estudo 88 escolares, com faixa etária de 6 a 8 anos de idade, matriculados no 1º, 2º e 3º ano do ensino fundamental I, de duas escolas na cidade de Recife, PE, Brasil. Como procedimento foi utilizado o Protocolo de Avaliação de Habilidades Cognitivo-Linguísticas. Este protocolo possui uma versão coletiva e individual e ambas foram aplicadas. A análise dos grupos foi realizada por meio de estatística não-paramétrica de Kruskal-Wallis com p <0,05. Resultados: todos os escolares foram submetidos à versão individual por apresentarem desempenho inferior na versão coletiva do protocolo. Assim, a aplicação da versão coletiva não foi suficiente para identificar os escolares em risco para os transtornos de aprendizagem, sendo indicada a avaliação individual. Na versão individual, os escolares do 1º ano apresentaram desempenho inferior na maioria dos subtestes que compõem o instrumento, já o 2º e o 3º ano apresentaram desempenho médio, que também merece atenção de acordo com o instrumento da avaliação. Estes resultados, aquém do esperado para a idade e série, podem ser uma consequência de más oportunidades de aprendizagem dentro e fora da escola. Além disso, foram observadas diferenças significantes em função do avanço da escolaridade, revelando que as habilidades cognitivo-linguísticas, que são precursoras do processo de aprendizagem da leitura e escrita, só estão tendo um maior salto de desenvolvimento ao final do ciclo de alfabetização, no 3º ano, o que revela um atraso importante em termos de aprendizagem. Conclusão: o baixo desempenho nas habilidades cognitivo-linguísticas observado nos escolares dificulta a identificação precoce de escolares em risco para os transtornos de aprendizagem e questiona a qualidade das oportunidades socioeducativas vivenciadas pelos escolares dentro e fora da escola pública. Outros fatores linguísticos, como diferenças regionais e contexto linguístico, necessitam ser considerados na interpretação de testes que avaliam habilidades cognitivo-linguísticas.

ABSTRACT Objective: to characterize the linguistic-cognitive performance of schoolchildren in the literacy cycle, in order to identify children at risk for learning disorders in the public school context. Methods: this study involved 88 children, aged 6 to 8 years, enrolled in the first, second and third year of elementary education I, from two schools in the city of Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. The procedure used was the Cognitive-Linguistic Skills Evaluation Protocol, which has collective and individual versions, both being applied. The analysis of the groups was performed through the statistical non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test with p <0.05. Results: all students were submitted to the individual version for presenting poor performance in the collective version of the protocol. Thus, the application of the collective version was not sufficient to identify children at risk for learning disorders, thus, the indication of the individual assessment. In the individual version, students from the 1st year showed a lower performance in most of the subtests that make up the instrument, whereas those from the 2nd and 3rd years had an average performance, which also deserves attention, according to the instrument of evaluation. These results, below the one expected for the age and school year, may be a consequence of poor learning opportunities within and outside school. There were also significant differences as a function of the schooling advance, revealing that the cognitive-linguistic skills, precursors of the reading and writing learning process, are only having a greater leap of development at the end of the literacy cycle, in the third year, which reveals a significant delay in terms of learning. Conclusion: the low performance observed in cognitive-linguistic abilities in schoolchildren hinders the early identification of children at risk for learning disorders and questions the quality of educational opportunities experienced by the students inside and outside the public school. Other factors, such as regional differences in language and linguistic context, need to be considered in the interpretation of tests that evaluate cognitive-linguistic abilities.

RESUMO Objetivo: Investigar, na literatura científica, de que forma o estilo de apego tem sido estudado nas crianças com doença crônica e as repercussões dessa vinculação nessa população. Fonte de dados: Realizou-se uma revisão integrativa da literatura por meio de um levantamento nas bases de dados Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) e Biblioteca Eletrônica Científica Online (SciELO) incluindo publicações originais nacionais e internacionais, em português, espanhol e inglês, no período de 2007 a 2018, utilizando-se os descritores apego e criança nos Descritores em Ciências da Saúde (DeCS) e attachment e children para o Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). Foi obtida uma amostra de 16 artigos para análise. Síntese dos dados: As doenças crônicas encontradas na pesquisa foram os distúrbios neurocomportamentais, como transtorno do déficit de atenção e hiperatividade (TDAH) e autismo, obesidade infantil e enxaqueca crônica. O estilo de apego predominante foi o inseguro, o que pode comprometer o desenvolvimento biopsicossocial dessa criança. Conclusões: O tipo de vinculação entre criança e cuidador primário pode ser considerado um fator de proteção ou risco para o desenvolvimento infantil. Haja vista essa premissa, é fundamental a instrumentalização das famílias baseada em práticas educativas dialógicas, nas quais os profissionais criam oportunidades e meios para que os familiares desenvolvam suas habilidades e competências e adquiram recursos que atendam às necessidades da criança. É importante que esse profissional auxilie a família a construir bases seguras para a criança com doença crônica, entendendo que é na unidade familiar que está o principal foco de promoção do desenvolvimento infantil.

ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate how attachment style has been studied in children with chronic disease in the scientific literature, and what repercussions this attachment has on this population. Data sources: An integrative review of the literature was carried out from a survey in the LILACS, MEDLINE and SciELO databases, including original national and international publications in Portuguese, Spanish and English from 2007 to 2018, using the descriptors “apego” and “criança” in the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS), and “attachment” and “children” for the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). Sixteen (16 articles) were obtained for the sample analysis. Data synthesis: The chronic diseases found in the research were neurobehavioral disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism, childhood obesity, and chronic migraine. The predominant attachment style was insecurity, which could compromise the biopsychosocial development of the child. Conclusions: The type of attachment between child and primary caregiver may be considered a protective or risk factor for child development. Considering this premise, it is important to equip/inform families based on dialogic educational practices, in which professionals create opportunities and means for families to develop their skills and competencies, and acquire resources which meet the child’s needs. It is important that this professional helps the family to build secure bases for their child with chronic disease, understanding that the main focus for promoting child development is in the family unit.

RESUMO Objetivo: descrever o conhecimento de professores do ensino fundamental sobre a dislexia em crianças. Métodos: participaram do estudo 10 professores do 1º ao 5° ano do ensino fundamental de escolas públicas do município de Abreu e Lima, Pernambuco. Foi realizada uma entrevista semiestruturada com cada professor, individualmente, na própria escola, usando como base algumas perguntas norteadoras. Resultados: a análise de conteúdo possibilitou a identificação de três categorias temáticas: 1. A formação dos professores não aborda a temática da dislexia; 2. Sentimentos e dificuldades do professor alfabetizador diante do desafio da alfabetização; 3. Convivendo com o desconhecimento sobre a dislexia: manejo escolar das possíveis crianças disléxicas. Conclusão: a pesquisa revelou o desconhecimento dos professores alfabetizadores acerca do tema dislexia, apesar de terem formação superior e pós-graduação bem como participarem de formações oferecidas pela rede municipal de ensino.

ABSTRACT Objective: to describe the knowledge of elementary school teachers on child dyslexia. Methods: 10 teachers from the 1st to the 5th year of elementary education in public schools in the municipality of Abreu e Lima, Pernambuco, Brazil, participated in the study. A semi-structured interview was conducted with each teacher, individually, in the school itself and was based on some guiding questions. Results: content analysis allowed the identification of three thematic categories: 1. Teacher training does not address dyslexia; 2. Feelings and difficulties of the literacy teacher facing the challenges of literacy; 3. Lack of knowledge about dyslexia: school management of possibly dyslexic children. Conclusion: the research revealed the lack of knowledge of literacy teachers on dyslexia, despite having undergraduate and postgraduate education, as well as that of teachers who participated in training offered by the municipal education network.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar e comparar o desempenho cognitivo-linguístico de uma criança usuária de implante coclear em relação aos seus pares ouvintes em processo de aprendizagem da leitura e da escrita. Método A amostra foi constituída por 11 crianças (na faixa etária de 7 a 10 anos de idade) ouvintes e uma usuária de implante coclear na orelha direita, matriculadas no 3º ano do ensino fundamental. O instrumento de avaliação utilizado foi o Protocolo de Avaliação das Habilidades Cognitivo-linguísticas. Os dados referentes às crianças foram transcritos e analisados utilizando-se a estatística descritiva. Resultados Os subtestes que apresentaram o maior percentual de crianças com desempenho superior foram: alfabeto em sequência (82%); leitura de pseudopalavras (82%); segmentação silábica (73%); repetição de palavras (82%); cópia de formas (72%); nomeação rápida (100%). Desses subtestes, a criança usuária de implante coclear apresentou desempenho superior em todos, exceto o de repetição de palavras, em que obteve desempenho médio. No subteste de ritmo, nenhuma criança obteve desempenho superior e a usuária de implante coclear obteve desempenho inferior. Conclusão A criança usuária de implante coclear apresentou um perfil cognitivo-linguístico bastante semelhante ao dos seus pares ouvintes. Ao que parece, as dificuldades de realização de algumas tarefas cognitivo-linguísticas estão relacionadas a fatores que vão além da integridade auditiva, haja vista que, em alguns subtestes, crianças ouvintes, obtiveram desempenho abaixo do esperado.

ABSTRACT Purpose When children becom cochlear implant users, they have already had the opportunity to develop phonological skills; however, it is possible that they miss sound information during speech and, consequently, present difficulties in competences associated with the learning of reading and writing. Methods The study sample consisted of 11 normal hearing children aged 7-10 years and a right-ear cochlear implant user enrolled in the 3rd grade of Elementary School. The Cognitive-Linguistic Assessment protocol was used to evaluate the study participants. Data were transcribed and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results The following sub-tests presented the highest percentage of children with superior performance: alphabet in sequence (82%), reading of pseudo-words (82%), syllable segmentation (73%), word repetition (82%), copying of shapes (72%), and rapid naming (100%).The cochlear implant user presented superior performance in all the sub-tests except for word repetition, in which average performance was observed. In the rhythm sub-test, none of the normal hearing children presented superior performance, and the cochlear implant user performed poorly. Discussion It was possible to observe that the condition of being a cochlear implant user is not the only determinant for a child's school failure. There are issues that go beyond auditory integrity, because some normal hearing children performed poorly in sub-tests such as repetition of pseudo-words, rhythm, and alliteration. Conclusion The cochlear implant user presented a cognitive-linguistic profile very similar to those of his hearing peers.
