Abstract This paper is dedicated to analysing Albert Camus's journalistic thinking on the Algerian issue. It takes into account that during the Algerian War, Camus was imputed as a figure who defended the colonial policy (or accused of not having the capacity to assume a position), while, as discovered in this study, during the 1940s, to a certain extent, French journalists accused him of colluding in the face of attacks by nationalist groups. Supported by a methodology based, in particular, on the writings of Pocock (2013), it was observed that Camus's primary concern was the guarantee of a democratic state. The Algerian author warned about the rise of nationalism while demanding historical reparation from France and underlined the responsibility of the French regarding the status quo at the time in the northern region of the African continent.

Resumo Este estudo se dedica a esmiuçar o pensamento jornalístico de Albert Camus sobre a questão argelina. Leva-se em consideração que, durante a Guerra da Argélia, Camus foi imputado como uma figura que defendia a política colonial (ou acusado de não ter capacidade de assumir uma posição), enquanto, conforme descoberto no exame, durante a década de 1940, em certa medida, jornalistas franceses o taxaram de ser conivente diante dos atentados de grupos nacionalistas. Lastreado em uma metodologia baseada, em especial, nos escritos de Pocock (2013), foi observado que a preocupação primordial de Camus foi a garantia de um estado democrático. O argelino alertava sobre a ascensão nacionalista enquanto demandava uma reparação histórica por parte da França e sublinhava a responsabilidade dos franceses no que se refere ao status quo da época na região do Norte do continente africano.
