Com a nova edição de Economia e sociedade no quadro da Max Weber-Gesamtausgabe (MWG), repuseram-se algumas questões objetivas que remontam aos inícios de uma longa história de controvérsias. A principal delas é se os textos juntados debaixo desse título formam de fato uma obra unitária, melhor dizendo, coerentemente unitária. Como corolário inevitável dessa dúvida crítica, recolocou-se também a questão de saber se uma obra com tal composição de textos, à base de originais com datas tão diferentes e espaçadas umas das outras, pode continuar a ser vista como "a obra principal" de Weber.

With the new issue of Economy and society in the listings of Max Weber-Gesamtausgabe (MWG), some objective questions dating back to its controversial beginnings have arisen, the principal one being whether the essays gathered under this title form in fact a unitary work, that is, a coherently unitary one. As an inevitable corollary of such critical uncertainty, it has been equally questioned if a work with this composition of texts, based on such differently dated and spaced originals, can still be seen as "the main work" of Weber.

Avec la nouvelle édition de Économie et société dans le cadre de la Max Weber-Gesamtausgabe (MWG), certaines questions objectives, qui remontent aux débuts d'une longue histoire de controverses, se sont à nouveau posées. La principale d'entre elles consiste à savoir si les textes réunis sous ce titre forment, de fait, une œuvre unitaire, ou mieux encore, une œuvre d'une cohérence unitaire. Comme corollaire inévitable à ce doute critique, la question s'est également posée de savoir si une œuvre avec une telle composition de textes, à base d'originaux dont les dates sont aussi différentes qu'espacées les unes des autres, peut continuer à être considéré comme "l'œuvre principale" de Weber.

NO CAMPO das religiões em nosso País, estamos diante de mudanças sociais aceleradas. Elas são principalmente culturais, mas têm importante dimensão demográfica e é justamente para salientar a significação sociológica mais ampla dessa dimensão populacional inevitável, que o artigo elege o ponto de vista do declínio demográfico de três das nossas religiões tradicionais: o catolicismo, o luteranismo e a umbanda. São mutações socioculturais de monta essas que o censo demográfico de 2000 descreve com números checados e rechecados por pessoal técnico da maior competência, dotados, por isso, da vantagem comparativa de ser altamente confiáveis, diferindo nesse aspecto dos dados quantitativos que circulam normalmente na mídia, provenientes não raro de fontes religiosas de (des)informação.

SWIFT social changes are occurring in Brazil's religious milieu. Although these changes are mainly cultural, there is an important demographic dimension as well. It is precisely to highlight the greater sociological significance of this inescapable component that we chose the viewpoint of the demographic decline of three religions: Catholicism, Lutheranism and Umbanda. These are momentous sociocultural mutations, as described by 2000 demographic Census, founded on data that was checked and double checked by highly qualified technical personnel. Thus, the figures have the comparative advantage of being highly trustworthy, unlike the quantitative data normally conveyed by the media, not rarely originating from religious sources of (dis)information.

The author argues that the treatment of the secularization thesis by Brazilian empirical studies in sociology of religion is theoretically deficient. In the article, having regard to the empiricist and ill-advised celebration of recent religious ferments that are supposed to be turning our times into a "de-secularized" or "post-secularized" age, the author supports the claim for resetting the conceptual discussion. He suggests that it would be very useful to Brazilian sociology of religion to cope again with the old political-juridical meaning through which the problem of a socio-historical process of dessacralization was conceptualized, taking place above all in the sphere of political-juridical normativity. This is the meaning unfolded by Max Weber, considered the major proponent of the secularization theory, in his sociology of law.

O tratamento dado à tese da secularização pela sociologia empírica da religião praticada hoje no Brasil simplesmente não satisfaz (pelo menos aos intelectos teoricamente mais exigentes). Neste ensaio, diante da celebração empirista e inconseqüente de fenômenos religiosos que supostamente estariam fazendo da nossa contemporaneidade uma época de "dessecularização", ou" pós-secularização", o autor defende a necessidade de se reabrir a discussão conceitual do problema. Pode ser de grande utilidade para a sociologia da religião, argumenta, enfrentar-se de novo com o velho significado jurídico-político com o qual, no Ocidente, se pôs a questão deste processo histórico-social de dessacralização instalado, antes de mais nada, na esfera vital da normatividade jurídico-política. Este é o significado que se explicita na "sociologia do direito" de Max Weber, autor que é considerado, também por seus críticos, o maior representante da tese da secularização na teoria sociológica.

Le traitement dispensé à la thèse de la sécularisation par la sociologie empirique de la religion pratiquée à present au Brésil n'est simplement pas satisfaisant (du moins pour les intelects théoriquement plus exigeants). Dans cet essai, devant la célébration empiriste et inconséquente des phénomènes réligieux qui soi-disant feraient de notre contemporaneité une époque de "desécularisation", ou encore de "post-sécularisation", l'auteur défend la necessité de reprendre la discussion conceptuelle du problème. Il peut être très utile pour la sociologie de la religion, argumente-t-il, que l'on revienne au vieux sens juridique-politique avec lequel s'est posée, dans l'Occident, la question sur ce procès historique-social de desacralisation instalé avant tout dans le domaine vital de la normativité juridique-politique. Celui-ci est la signification qui se dégage de la" sociologie du droit" de Max Weber, l'auteur qui est consideré, même par ses oppositeurs, le plus grand répresentant de la thèse de la sécularisation dans la théorie sociologique.

Este artigo procura analisar os efeitos perversos da apropriação pela esquerda de um tema definidor das tradições de direita, a saber, a diferença. Com base no caso Sears (EUA) e no caso Le Pen (França), o autor aponta para as armadilhas racistas e sexistas presentes nos discursos que focalizam e enfatizam a diferença, sobretudo num período histórico de reemergência dos conservadorismos que, por sua vez, se apropriam do argumento da diferença, dirigindo-o contra os próprios movimentos de esquerda.

This article aims to analyze the perverse effects that take place when the left makes as its the issue of difference, that is crucial, defining of rightist traditions. Based upon the Sears case (USA) and the Le Pen case (France), the author points up to the racist, and sexist traps ingrained in arguments that underline and focus difference, particularly in a time in History when conservative forces come up again, and reuse those arguments as though they were theirs, and now shoot them against leftist social movements.
