ABSTRACT Background: One of the biggest challenges for breeders, especially for perennial plants, is to have strategies to reduce the risk of recommending new clones. One of the alternatives would be to use a mixture of clones, clonal compounds (CC), instead of monoclones (MC). This strategy has not yet been properly proven from experiments involving CC and MC simultaneously in different environments. Results: The CC’s contribution to the interaction was significant, although associated with a high MAI estimate (m³. ha-1. year-1). The CC’s took better advantage of environmental stimuli than most MC’s. The rick estimates in the CC recommendation were, in most situations, lower than those of the different monoclones. Conclusion: The use of CC proved to be more efficient than the use of MC in mitigating the effects of the interaction of genotypes by environments, in recommending clones for forest exploitation.

RESUMO A exploração florestal é conduzida em milhares de hectares e apresenta ampla variação nas condições ambientais em termos de solo, clima e até mesmo manejo, assim, identificar clones que possam ser recomendados para essas diversas condições é um grande desafio. Nesta recomendação, um caráter importante é o incremento médio anual em celulose (IMACEL). Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a interação de diferentes clones e ambientes para o IMACEL com a finalidade de verificar se a origem da seleção dos clones afeta seu desempenho em outras regiões e identificar clones com base na adaptabilidade. Foram utilizados dados de IMACEL referente à avaliação de clones de Eucalyptus da empresa Suzano S.A. em cinco ambientes, nos estados do Espírito Santo, São Paulo e Mato Grosso do Sul. Os testes clonais foram instalados no delineamento de blocos casualizados com parcelas de uma planta. Dados referentes ao IMACEL das árvores, aos cinco anos, foram submetidos à análise de variância por ambiente e, posteriormente, à análise conjunta. A interação clones x ambientes foi expressiva para o IMACEL, porém, a origem de seleção dos clones não afeta o seu desempenho quando utilizados em outras regiões. Alguns clones se destacaram quanto à adaptabilidade, permitindo maior segurança à empresa na recomendação para diferentes ambientes.

ABSTRACT Forest exploitation is conducted in thousands of hectares in Brazil and presents a wide variation in environmental conditions in terms of soil, climate and even management, so identifying clones that may be recommended for these various conditions is a major challenge. In this recommendation, one important character is the mean annual increment in cellulose (MAICEL). This study aimed to evaluate the interaction of different clones and environments for MAICEL in order to verify whether the origin of clone selection affects their performance in other regions and to identify clones based on adaptability. MAICEL data were used for the evaluation of clones from Suzano S.A. in five environments distributed in the states of Espírito Santo, São Paulo, and Mato Grosso do Sul. Clonal tests were arranged in a randomized block design with plots of one plant. Data on MAICEL of the trees at five years were submitted to analysis of variance per environment and, subsequently, to the joint analysis. The clones x environments interaction was expressive for MAICEL, however, the origin of selection does not affect the performance of clones when grown in other regions. Some clones stood out for their adaptability, allowing more security to the company on the recommendation for different environments.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate environmental effect on growth, wood basic density and anatomical characteristics of Eucalyptus grandis × Eucalyptus urophylla clones for pulp production. The studied clones were from 6.5-year-old plantations of Fibria Celulose company, located in two places: Nova Almeida (ES) and Posto da Mata (BA). The total and commercial heights, diameter at breast height (DBH), wood and bark volume (dendrometric characteristics), heartwood and sapwood percentages, wood basic density and wood fibers and vessels were evaluated. The heartwood and sapwood percentage and vessel frequency were the only characteristics not influenced by the growth site among the studied parameters. On the other hand, tree height (total and commercial) was considered the most influenced by the environment.

RESUMO O presente trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de comparar estratégias de análises de experimentos considerando um grande número de clones e um número reduzido de mudas a serem avaliadas. Foram analisados dados da circunferência a altura do peito de duas épocas de avaliação, aos 30 e 90 meses, de um teste clonal de eucalipto em três locais. Os experimentos foram conduzidos no delineamento de blocos aumentados, com 400 clones regulares distribuídos em 20 blocos e com quatro clones comuns (testemunhas). A parcela foi constituída de cinco plantas no espaçamento 3 x 3 metros. Foram realizadas as análises estatísticas individuais por local e época, a conjunta de locais por época e a conjunta envolvendo os três locais e as duas épocas. Cada uma das análises foi realizada de acordo com dois modelos: blocos aumentados (DBA) e entre e dentro (ED). Foram estimados os componentes de variância, as herdabilidades, a correlação de Spearman na classificação dos clones e os índices de coincidência na seleção dos clones. Constatou-se que as análises em DBA e as análises ED fornecem resultados semelhantes na avaliação de clones de eucalipto. Os índices de coincidência entre os dois modelos na seleção dos clones, de maneira geral, foram altos, apresentando valores de 100% nas análises conjuntas de locais aos 90 meses. As estimativas das correlações de Spearman foram concordantes com os índices de coincidência. Verificou-se, também, que a interação clones x épocas foi expressiva e que os índices de coincidência na seleção dos clones aos 30 meses e aos 90 meses, nas análises conjuntas de locais, foram da ordem de 42% no ED e 47% no DBA, quando considerada uma intensidade de seleção de 5%.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to compare analyses of experiment strategies when there is a large number of clones and a reduced number of seedlings to be evaluated. Data from girth at breast height of two seasons of evaluation, 30 and 90 months, from a clonal test of Eucalyptus were analyzed in three locations. The experiments were carried out in the augmented block design with 400 regular clones distributed in 20 blocks and with four common clones (controls). Each plot consisted of five plants spaced 3 x 3 meters. The individual statistic analyses were carried out by season and local, a combined one by local at each season and a combined one involving the three locals and the two seasons. Each analysis was carried out according to two models: augmented design (AD) and one-way classification (OWC). The variance components, the heritability, the Speaman's rank correlation and the coincidence indexes in the clone selection at the two models were estimated. It was found that the augmented block design and the one-way classification provide similar results in eucalypt clone evaluation. The coincidence indexes between the two models in the clone selection, in general, were high, showing values of 100% in the local combined analyses at 90 months. The Spearman's rank correlation showed estimates in accordance with the coincidence indexes. It was also checked that the clones by seasons interaction was expressive and the coincidence indexes in clones selection at 30 months with selection at 90 months in the combined by local analyses were from 42% in the OWC and 47% in AD, when a selection intensity of 5% was applied.

Este trabalho objetivou avaliar a eficiência da seleção precoce de genitores e árvores para clonagem em testes de progênies de irmãos completos de Eucalyptus spp. Foram avaliadas 61 progênies híbridas, na região norte, noroeste e central do estado de Minas Gerais. Os experimentos foram instalados em 2001, utilizando o delineamento de blocos casualizados com três repetições e parcelas de uma linha com cinco plantas. A característica avaliada foi circunferência à altura do peito (CAP) aos 30 e 84 meses da data de plantio. A eficiência da seleção precoce foi avaliada por meio da flutuação dos parâmetros genéticos e fenotípicos, índice de coincidência, correlação genética, correlação fenotípica, correlação classificatória de Spearman, resposta correlacionada, ganhos por ano e repetibilidade dos valores fenotípicos ao nível de indivíduo. Em todas as metodologias empregadas, verificou-se que a seleção precoce é eficaz, tanto na seleção de genitores quanto na seleção de árvores para clonagem.

This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of early selection for parents and trees for cloning in full-sib progeny tests of Eucalyptus spp. The 61 hybrid progenies were evaluated in the north, northwest and central state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, in a randomized complete block design with three replications, in 2001. The trait circumference at breast height (CBH) was evaluated 30 and 84 months after planting in five-plant rows. The selection efficiency was assessed by the fluctuation of genetic and phenotypic parameters, coincidence index, genetic correlation, phenotypic correlation, Spearman rank correlation, correlated response, gain per year and repeatability of phenotypic values at the plant level. All methodologies indicated that early selection is effective both in the selection of parents and the selection of trees for cloning.

Neste trabalho foi avaliada a eficiência de dois procedimentos para digestão ácida de amostras de biodiesel visando à determinação de Ca, P, Mg, K e Na por espectrometria de emissão óptica com plasma acoplado indutivamente com configuração axial (ICP OES). Nas digestões em sistema aberto, foi utilizada a mistura contendo ácidos nítrico, sulfúrico e peróxido de hidrogênio e aquecimento condutivo; enquanto que no procedimento empregando forno de microondas com cavidade foi utilizada a mistura contendo ácido nítrico e peróxido de hidrogênio. Os procedimentos foram avaliados considerando-se limites de quantificação, precisão, acidez final dos digeridos e teor de carbono residual. Os teores de carbono residual nos digeridos foram 0,358 ± 0,012% para o sistema aberto com aquecimento convencional e 0,614 ± 0,023% para o sistema fechado com aquecimento assistido por radiação microondas, o que demonstra a alta eficiência dos procedimentos propostos. O sistema de digestão em forno de microondas com cavidade resultou em maior rapidez, segurança e resultados analíticos com percentuais de recuperação de 89,0-103,0% e desvios menores que 5%. Os limites de detecção obtidos, < 0.40 µg g-1, são adequados para a determinação dos analitos, conforme os limites estabelecidos na legislação brasileira. Três amostras de biodiesel produzidas de diferentes fontes foram analisadas. Em comparação com outros procedimentos propostos na literatura, o procedimento desenvolvido usando forno de microondas com cavidade apresenta vantagens, tais como não necessitar de soluções orgânicas para calibração e não usar solventes orgânicos tóxicos.

In the present work, the efficiency of two procedures for the digestion of biodiesel was investigated for the simultaneous determination of Ca, P, Mg, K and Na by axial view ICP OES. In the open system with conventional heating, concentrated nitric and sulfuric acids were added to the samples, and the addition of hydrogen peroxide completed the digestion. In the microwave-assisted closed system, complete digestion was performed using concentrated nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide. The analytical performances were evaluated through limits of quantification, precision of the overall procedures, final acidity of the digests, and residual carbon contents. The contents of residual carbon for the biodiesel samples digested were 0.358 ± 0.012% using the open system with conventional heating and 0.614 ± 0.023% using the microwave-assisted closed vessel system, demonstrating the high efficiency of both proposed procedures. The optimized microwave-assisted decomposition procedure produced the fastest, safest and most accurate analytical results with recoveries of 89.0-103.0% and deviations lower than 5% in most cases. Low limits of detection were obtained (< 0.40 µg g-1), adequate for the established limits set out in Brazilian legislation for these analytes. Three biodiesel samples produced from different oil sources were analyzed. In comparison with other procedures proposed in the literature, the developed procedure using the microwave-assisted closed system is advantageous because it neither require organic standard solutions for calibrations nor use toxic organic solvents.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar o desempenho produtivo, a adaptabilidade e a estabilidade de híbridos simples, triplos e duplos de milho originados de um mesmo conjunto de linhagens. Foram avaliados 10 híbridos simples, 30 híbridos triplos e 15 híbridos duplos, além de nove híbridos comerciais utilizados como testemunhas. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental látice triplo 8x8. Os experimentos foram avaliados em 12 ambientes. O caráter avaliado foi a produtividade de espigas corrigida para 13% de umidade. Realizaram-se as análises de variância individuais e conjunta e verificada a presença da interação genótipos x ambientes, procedeu-se à análise de estabilidade por meio da estimativa da ecovalência e do método AMMI (Additive Main Effects and Multiplicative Interaction). A produtividade média de híbridos simples, triplos e duplos, provenientes de um mesmo conjunto de linhagens, não diferiu estatisticamente, e a diferença de produtividade entre os melhores híbridos simples, duplos e triplos foi baixa (cerca de 10%), o que torna a análise de custo e benefício necessária para a escolha de cultivares para plantio comercial. Os híbridos duplos foram os que menos contribuíram para a interação genótipos x ambientes, seguidos pelos híbridos triplos e os simples. A metodologia utilizada permite identificar híbridos estáveis e produtivos em todos os tipos de milho avaliados

The objective of this work was to compare the productive performance, the adaptability and stability of single-crosses, three-way crosses and double-crosses maize hybrids originated from the same set of inbred lines. Ten single-crosses, 30 three-way crosses, and 15 double-crosses, besides nine commercial hybrids used as checks were evaluated. A 8x8 triple lattice experimental design was used in 12 environments. Ear yield corrected to 13% moisture content was the evaluated character. Individual and joint analysis of variance were performed and, in case of the presence of genotype x environment interaction the analysis of stability was proceeded by estimating the ecovalence and by applying the AMMI (Additive Main Effects and Multiplicative Interaction) method. The average productivity of single-crosses, three-way-crosses, and double-crosses from the same inbred lines did not statistically differ, and yield differences between the best-performance single-cross, three-way-cross and doble-cross hybrids was low (about 10%), which indicates the cost/benefit analysis as necessary to choose cultivars for commercial cropping. Double-crosses contributed the least to the genotype x environment interaction, followed by three-way crosses and single-crosses. The methodology allows of identifying high yielding and stable hybrids in all the evaluated maize types

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo estudar o controle genético da exigência térmica para o início do florescimento em milho. Foram utilizadas duas linhagens contrastantes para o caráter em questão. A partir dessas duas linhagens, foram obtidas as gerações F1, F2, RC1 e RC2. Os dados referentes aos valores de graus-dia compreendidos entre a semeadura e o início do florescimento, foram obtidos por planta. Estimaram-se os componentes de média e de variância por meio do método dos quadrados mínimos ponderados. Constatou-se que em todos os modelos dos componentes de média avaliados os valores de R² foram próximos de 100%. Dessa forma, considerou-se o modelo simplificado, denominado aditivo-dominante. Pelos componentes de variância, o modelo envolvendo a variância aditiva, variância de dominância e variância ambiental foi suficiente para explicar o controle genético do florescimento em milho, evidenciando que a soma térmica como medida da precocidade em milho é oligogênica, com a presença de dominância. O alto valor da estimativa do coeficiente de herdabilidade permite inferir a possibilidade de sucesso com a seleção massal para o caráter.

The objective of this work was to study the genetic control of thermal demand for maize flowering initiation. Two contrasting lines were crossed and used with the F1, F2 RC1 and RC2 derived populations. The trait day-degrees between sown and flowering per plant were evaluated to obtain the estimates of components of variance and means. All models of mean components had R² values near 100%, and then the simple additive-dominant model was considered. Considering the components of variance the model with additive, dominant and environment variance explained the genetic control of maize flowering. The results of the estimated components allowed to conclude that genetic control of earlyness in maize is oligogenic with presence of dominance. Moreover, high values of estimate heritability coefficient indicate the possibility of success with individual phenotypic selection.
