Abstract: Faced with the need for innovation and waste reduction that the market demands, the high consumption of adhesive in the furniture industry led to the need and interest in studying ways to reduce this consumption, through changes in the bonding process without compromising the mechanical properties of the bonded material. The collage is carried out to form Edge Glued Panels of Pinus taeda (loblolly pine), using PolyVinyl Acetate adhesive with an average weight of 205 g/m². If lower weights are used, using the current application method (roller), mechanical strength problems begin to arise. The objective of this work was to study the feasibility of applying glue by another method (spray) with weights and, consequently, shorter pressing times, to evaluate the conservation of the mechanical properties of the panels through shear and traction tests. For that, samples were made according to the standards with the current situation of bonding (weight of 205 g/m² and pressing time of 80 s), to obtain reference results in the tests, and in the proposed situations (adhesive weights of 125 g/m² and 80 g/m² and pressing times of 70 s and 75 s), in an attempt to reach the established reference values. Regarding the results, it was feasible to conclude that the current method could be replaced by the proposed one, using the spray together with an adhesive weight of 125 g/m² and pressing times of 75 s and 70 s, with no statistically significant difference for the current method.

RESUMO Esta pesquisa experimental tem como objetivo analisar a influência dos parâmetros elétricos da usinagem por eletroerosão (EDM – Electrical Discharge Machining) na rugosidade média (Ra) do aço AISI P20, o qual é vastamente utilizado na indústria de moldes para injeção de termoplásticos. Também é proposto neste estudo a otimização destes parâmetros para a obtenção da rugosidade superficial pretendida ao material. O planejamento e os resultados estatísticos foram obtidos através da metodologia de design de experimento (DOE – Design Of Experiments). Utilizou-se do software Statistica para criar gráficos e tabelas de análise baseados na metodologia de superfície de resposta (RSM – Response Surface Methodology). A análise dos resultados mostrou que a duração do pulso de descarga (Ton) e a intensidade da corrente elétrica são os parâmetros de maior efeito para a rugosidade superficial. Baseados em outros trabalhos sobre EDM, a análise estatística apresentou resultados em conformidade quanto a influência dos fatores. O gráfico de otimização indicou coerentemente os níveis adequados de ajuste dos parâmetros para a obtenção da variável resposta desejável. Pode-se constatar nesta pesquisa em específico, quais são os parâmetros elétricos significativos para a rugosidade superficial média, sendo o seu conhecimento e controle, fundamentais para a otimização do processo. As técnicas estatísticas apresentaram-se como ferramentas muito úteis para o domínio da tecnologia industrial, principalmente em casos onde há necessidade do ajuste de muitos fatores, gerando previsibilidade, economia, agilidade e confiabilidade ao processo.

ABSTRACT This experimental research aims to analyze the influence of electrical parameters of electrical discharge machining (EDM) on the average roughness (Ra) of AISI P20 steel, which is widely used in the mold industry for thermoplastic injection. It is also proposed in this study the optimization of these parameters to obtain the desired surface roughness of the material. The planning and statistical results were obtained through the experiment design methodology (DOE). Statistica software was used to create graphs and tables based on the response surface methodology (RSM). The analysis of the results showed that the duration of the discharge pulse (Ton) and the intensity of the electric current are the parameters with the greatest effect on surface roughness. Based on other studies on EDM, the statistical analysis presented results in conformity with regard to the influence of factors. The optimization graph consistently indicated the adequate levels of adjustment of the parameters to obtain the desired response. It can be verified in this research in specific, what are the significant electrical parameters for the average surface roughness, being its knowledge and control, fundamental for the optimization of the process. Statistical techniques were presented as very useful tools for mastering industrial technology, especially in cases where there is a need to adjust many factors, generating predictability, economy, agility and reliability to the process.

Duplex stainless steels are materials with high mechanical strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance, properties that make them rather appealing for the application on chemical and petrochemical industries. However, the exposure of such materials to high temperatures promotes the precipitation of deleterious intermetallic phases that cause significant damage to the mechanical and corrosion properties of these materials. In this study, the UNS S31803 duplex stainless steel received a thermal treatment at a temperature of 830 °C for 30, 90, and 180 minutes. After the treatment, the precipitates were characterized by backscattered electrons (BSE) and chemical composition mapping, and the properties of impact toughness were assessed by Charpy V-notch test for the different treatment conditions. The corrosion resistance properties were assessed by cyclic potentiodynamic polarization study. The thermal treatments at 830 °C resulted in a considerable reduction of impact toughness, and the corrosion resistance was also reduced in longer treatment times along with the loss of the passivation ability of the materials treated.

RESUMO O trabalho apresenta um estudo sobre os efeitos decorrentes da modificação da mesogeometria de uma broca helicoidal de metal-duro com revestimento de TiAlN sobre o acabamento superficial do aço de alta resistência e baixa liga DIN S700MC utilizando diferentes condições de aplicação de fluidos lubrirrefrigerantes (em abundância, em mínima quantidade e a seco). Para tanto, foram consideradas como variáveis de resposta a rugosidade do furo, o dimensional da rebarba gerada e a camada afetada pelo calor. Os resultados mostram que a utilização da broca com mesogeometria alterada gerou uma redução dos valores de rugosidade, maior valor dimensional da rebarba gerada e maiores valores de modificação microestrutural pelo calor. Com relação aos meios lubrirrefrigerantes, os resultados de rugosidade não foram influenciados pelas diferentes condições de aplicação; o fluido em abundância, juntamente com a broca sem modificação, apresentou os menores valores de rebarba; não houve variações expressivas entre a aplicação do fluido em abundância e em mínima quantidade na análise da camada afetada pelo calor.

ABSTRACT This paper presents an investigation on the behavior and effect of the machining process by drilling through a DIN S700MC steel alloy, correlating the preparation of cutting-edge geometry with different coolinglubrication conditions, and focusing on the surface finishing of the machined part. In this context, experimental tests were performed with different cooling-lubrication systems (abundance, MQL, and dry) using solid carbide twist drills, coated with titanium aluminum nitride, with or without meso-geometry preparation (roundings). As response variables were assessed the texture (roughness), the layer affected by heat throughout the hole and burr dimensional profiles. The results indicate a significant reduction of roughness values when using the rounding drill flank, face and guides. Statistically, this result was not influenced by the different cooling-lubrication systems. Regarding burr dimension generated by the process, the tool with no meso-geometry preparation presented the same values along with the application of fluid in abundance (emulsion). In the analysis of the layer affected by heat, the tool with meso-geometry preparation presented lower values of the affected layer (microstructure change) and, statistically, there were no significant variations between the application of fluid in abundance and with MQL.

RESUMO Os aços inoxidáveis duplex (AID) são materiais que possuem excelente resistência mecânica e elevada resistência à corrosão em meios agressivos, fatores que contribuem para o seu emprego em larga escala nas indústrias de petróleo e de processos químicos. Estas propriedades são garantidas pela sua composição microestrutural com 50 % de fase ferrita e 50% de fase austenita em média, garantida pelas adições de elementos de liga balanceados e pela temperatura de solubilização. Em muitas aplicações o processo de soldagem é utilizado, sendo realizados ciclos térmicos no material durante o processo, que geram modificações microestruturais. Se o processo não for devidamente controlado podem ocorrer severas modificações da microestrutura característica do material e ainda causar precipitação de fases intermetálicas, que são danosas para as propriedades mecânicas e de resistência a corrosão dos AID. Portanto esse trabalho tem como objetivo fazer uma análise da região da ZAC de duas juntas de AID UNS 31803 soldadas pelo processo GMAW. A primeira junta foi soldada de acordo com a norma ISO 13847, onde a temperatura interpasse máxima deve ser de 150ºC, desta forma na (junta A) a temperatura interpasse foi mantida abaixo de 150ºC. Na segunda junta os passes foram executados de forma simultânea sem tempo para resfriamento entre os passes, sendo que a temperatura interpasse se manteve entre 250ºC - 300ºC (junta B), conforme registrado com termômetro de contato. Como resultado, observou-se na junta B uma ZAC mais extensa e presença de fases intermetálicas com maior tamanho quando comparado à junta A. Na realização da contagem de fases ferrita/austenita junto a zona afetada pelo calor (ZAC), foram encontrados para ambas as condições de soldagem uma porcentagem das fases semelhante, apresentando uma queda no percentual de austenita próxima a 10% em comparação com o material base.

ABSTRACT Duplex stainless steel (DSS) are materials with high mechanical strength and corrosion resistance in aggressive environments, the main requirements in chemical and petrochemical industry. These properties are assigned to its microstructural composition, which is around 50% ferrite and 50% austenite, based on balanced alloying elements and solubilization temperature. Generally, welding DSS applications involve thermal cycles, causing microstructure transformations. Therefore, welding processes must be properly controlled in order to reduce the occurrence of severe microstructural changes, as intermetallic phases, harmful to mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. The aim of this paper is to analyze a Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) on two DSS UNS 31803 welded joints resultant from GMAW process. The first one was welded according to standard ISO 13847, with inter-pass temperature up to 150ºC (joint A). The second one was welded through simultaneous passes, without cooling time, and inter-pass temperature range of 250ºC-300ºC (joint B), measured with contact thermometer. HAZ and intermetallic phases were larger in joint B than in joint A. Phase counting ferrite/austenite (δ/γ) was carried out in the HAZ, and detected similar percentage for both welded conditions, comparing these results with base metal composition, there is a 10% reduction in austenite phase.
