ABSTRACT The investigation aims to analyze the technical viability of addition the waste from the filter-press from the mineral coal treatment process (TFP) and bottom ash from a thermoelectric (CP), in ceramic paste on the laboratory scale. Physical-chemical characterization and waste classification tests were carried out. Subsequently, ten formulations were developed through the mixture design (DoE), incorporating these residues into a standard clay ceramic paste (STD). The samples were formed by extrusion without vacuum and subjected to heat treatment in an oven and fired in a muffle at 900 °C. The evaluated technological properties were: shrinkage of drying and firing, water absorption and mechanical resistance and, finally, efflorescence tests and phytotoxicological analysis were performed. The results of solid waste classification, indicated these as not being dangerous (Class II-B - inert). The technical analysis of the samples show that compared to the clay ceramic standard formulation (STD), the other mixtures obtained results within the technical parameters, which can later be carried out in an industrial scale test. Although the mechanical tests with waste incorporation were below the standard formulation (STD), a test on an industrial scale is not discarded. In the efflorescence test, it was observed that there was no presence of soluble salts. And finally, in the phyto-toxicological test, with Allium cepa L. of a formulation with aggregation of all raw materials, it presented a result marginally similar to the standard, proving itself capable of reproduction on an industrial scale.

RESUMO A investigação teve por objetivo analisar a viabilidade técnica de incorporação do resíduo proveniente do filtro prensa do processo de beneficiamento do carvão mineral (TFP) e de cinzas pesadas (CP) advindos de uma termoelétrica, em massa cerâmica na escala laboratorial. Foram realizados ensaios de caracterização físico-química e de classificação dos resíduos. Posteriormente foram desenvolvidas dez formulações através de planejamento experimental por delineamento de misturas simplex centroide, incorporando esses resíduos a uma massa padrão de cerâmica vermelha. Os corpos-de-prova foram conformados por extrusão sem vácuo e submetidos a tratamento térmico em estufa e queima em forno mufla a 900 °C. As propriedades tecnológicas avaliadas foram: retração térmica linear de secagem e de queima, absorção de água e resistência mecânica à compressão e por fim, foram realizados testes de eflorescência e análise fitotoxicológica. Os resultados de classificação dos resíduos, indicaram esses como não sendo perigoso – Classe II-B – inerte. Os testes físicos dos corpos-de-prova mostram que comparados a formulação base de cerâmica vermelha (STD), as demais formulações obtiveram resultados dentro dos parâmetros técnicos, que podem ser posteriormente realizados em um ensaio de escala industrial. Embora os ensaios mecânicos das provas com incorporação de resíduo ficaram abaixo da formulação base (STD), não se descarta uma prova em escala similar a industrial. No ensaio de eflorescência, observou-se que não houve presença de sais solúveis. E por fim, no ensaio fitotoxicológico, com Allium cepa L. de uma formulação com agregação de todas matérias-primas juntas, apresentou um resultado próximos ao padrão, se mostrando apto a reprodução em escala industrial.

Resumo As equações IDF tem importante aplicação em diversas áreas da engenharia como nos projetos de drenagem urbana, na modelagem hidrológica e em projetos de conservação do solo. Este trabalho teve como objetivo analisar as séries de máximas anuais e ajustar as equações IDF para 44 estações pluviométricas do estado de Alagoas, Brasil. Foram ajustados os parâmetros da distribuição de Gumbel e da distribuição Generalizada de Valores Extremos. A avaliação da aderência dos dados observados às distribuições de probabilidade bem como a seleção da melhor distribuição foi baseada nos testes de Kolmogorov-Smirnov e Anderson-Darling, ao nível de significância de 5%. A distribuição GEV com parâmetros obtidos pelo método dos L-Momentos foi considerada a melhor em 73% das estações pluviométricas. As equações IDF estimadas apresentaram um bom ajuste, com coeficientes de determinação acima de 0,991. As intensidades de chuvas máximas têm variação espacial acompanhando as zonas climáticas do estado. As equações ajustadas permitem estimativa da intensidade da chuva com duração de 5 minutos a 24 horas e período de retorno de 2 a 100 anos, com erro padrão de estimativa inferior 6,83 mm h-1.

Abstract Intensity-duration-frequency (IDF) equations have important applications in several engineering areas such as urban drainage designs, hydrological modeling, and soil conservation projects. This study analyzes the annual maximum series and fits IDF equations for 44 rainfall stations in Alagoas State, Brazil. We adjusted parameters of the Gumbel distribution (GD) and the Generalized Extreme Value (GEV) distribution. The fitting of the observed data to the probability distributions, as well as the selection of the best distribution, were based on the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Anderson-Darling tests at a 5% significance level. The GEV distribution with parameters obtained by the L-moments method was considered the best in 73% of rainfall stations. The estimated IDF equations showed a good fit, with determination coefficients above 0.991. The maximum rainfall intensities have spatial variation following the climatic zones of the state. The fitted equations allow estimating rainfall intensities from 5 minutes to 24 hours with a return period of 2 to 100 years, and standard error of less than 6.83 mm h-1.

No sul catarinense, cristais de pirita associados a rejeitos de beneficiamento de carvão mineral, quando alterados, desencadeiam o processo conhecido como drenagem ácida de mina (DAM). Este trabalho objetivou avaliar a eficiência de três sistemas de coberturas secas sobre estes rejeitos, como uma opção para o controle da DAM. Agentes neutralizantes da DAM como a cinza pesada e o calcário foram misturados com os rejeitos ou dispostos acima destes. Para reduzir a infiltração de água e difusão de oxigênio no meio, foi empregada uma camada de 50 cm de solo silte-argiloso compactado. Os experimentos foram monitorados por um ano, sendo analisados nos lixiviados alguns parâmetros indicadores da DAM, além da presença de bactérias ferro-oxidantes e sulfato-redutoras. Os resultados obtidos indicaram uma boa eficiência na prevenção da DAM de dois dos três sistemas de coberturas pesquisados.

In the southern of the Santa Catarina state, the weathering and oxidation of pyrite-containing coal has been the major agent of Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) production. The purpose of this study was to verify the efficiency of three different cover systems to inhibit AMD. Experiments were built in field lysimeters with alkaline agents - bottom ash and limestone - placed over or mixed with fresh coal waste. To reduce the water infiltration rates and oxygen diffusion 50 cm of compact mud soil layer was put over waste. The top cover was constituted by 10 cm of the same soil, mixed with bottom ash. During one year, these experiments have been monitored through chemical (pH, Eh, Fe2+, Fe total, Al, Ca, Mg, Zn, Pb and Mn) and microbiological (Thiobacilus ferroxidans presence) composition of effluents. The results indicated that two of three cover systems employed were efficient on AMD prevention.
