Resumo As neoplasias hematológicas e de células hematopoiéticas dos genes e as células hematopoiéticas estão associadas à mutação genética, geralmente em nível cromossômico. O estudo citogenético padrão é amplamente aceito como um dos principais determinantes diagnósticos e prognósticos em pacientes. Portanto, o presente estudo descritivo e transversal buscou determinar a análise citogenética de neoplasias hematológicas frequentes no Paquistão. Um total de 202 amostras de medula óssea periférica ou sangue de pacientes com malignidade hematológica benigna e maligna foi coletado usando uma técnica convencional de banda G. Entre os pacientes inscritos, a média de idade foi de 21,5 anos ± 23,4, e a distribuição por gênero mostrou uma marcada predominância da população masculina de 147 (73%) em comparação com a feminina de 55 (27%). Pacientes na faixa etária (2-10 anos) tiveram a maior frequência, 48 (24%), de neoplasias hematológicas, seguida da idade (11-20 anos) com 40 (20%). Cariótipos normais (46, XX / 46, XY) foram encontrados em 51% (n = 103) dos pacientes. Além disso, a frequência de cariótipo complexo foi de 30 (15%), enquanto normal foi observada em 171 (85%) pacientes. Leucemia linfoblástica aguda pré-B (LLA Pré-B) foi a doença maligna mais prevalente de 66 (33%), seguida por leucemia mieloide crônica (LMC) de 41 (20%) e leucemia linfocítica aguda de 29 (14%). A translocação foi o 50 mais prevalente (25%), seguido por hipotriploidia 14 (7%) e monossomia 8 (4%) na análise de aberração cromossômica. Além disso, a translocação t (9:22) encontrada foi de 20 (10%) na LMC, com a maioria na faixa etária (31-40 anos). Este estudo recomenda que o cariótipo deve ser testado com frequência em condições hematológicas porque pode fornecer informações sobre as alterações cromossômicas relativas associadas a doenças malignas específicas.

Abstract Hematological and hematopoietic cells malignancies of the genes and hematopoietic cells are associated with the genetic mutation, often at the chromosomal level. The standard cytogenetic study is widely accepted as one of the main diagnostics and prognostic determinants in patients. Therefore, the current descriptive and cross-sectional study sought to determine the cytogenetic analysis of frequent hematological malignancies in Pakistan. A total of 202 peripheral bone marrow or blood samples from patients with benign and malignant hematological malignancy were taken using a conventional G-banding technique. Among enrolled patients, the mean age was 21.5 years ± 23.4, and gender-wise distribution showed a marked predominance of the male 147 (73%) population compared to the female 55 (27%). Patients in the age group (2-10 years) had the highest frequency, 48 (24%), of hematological neoplasms, followed by age (11-20 years) with 40 (20%). Normal karyotypes (46, XX/46, XY) was found in 51% (n=103) patients. Furthermore, the frequency of complex karyotype was 30 (15%), while normal was seen in 171 (85%) patients. Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (Pre-B ALL) was the most prevalent malignancy of 66 (33%), followed by Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) of 41 (20%) and Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia of 29 (14%). Translocation was the most prevalent 50 (25%), followed by hypotriploidy 14 (7%) and monosomy 8 (4%) on chromosome aberration analysis. In addition, t(9:22) translocation was found to be 20 (10%) in CML, with the majority in the age group (31-40 years). This study recommends that karyotyping should be tested frequently in hematological conditions because it may provide insight into the relative chromosomal changes associated with particular malignancies.

RESUMO A composição fitotóxica de Achyranthes aspera foi identificada através de cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência (CLAE), e o potencial herbicida da espécie foi investigado em relação a duas plantas daninhas de folhas estreitas (Phalaris minor Retz. e Avena fatua L.) e quatro de folhas largas (Lathyrus aphaca L., Vicia sativa L., Convolvolus arvensis L. e Asphodelus tenuifolius L.), através de bioensaios. As sementes das plantas daninhas foram cultivadas nos extratos aquosos de várias partes das plantas (raízes, folhas, caule, frutos e plantas inteiras) de A. aspera na concentração de 5% (p/v). Os extratos de todas as partes da planta causaram reduções significativas, em graus diferentes, na porcentagem de germinação e no tempo médio de germinação. Phalaris minor, A. fatua, L. aphaca, V. sativa e A. tenuifolius simplesmente não germinaram, enquanto a espécie C. arvensis obteve o PG mais baixo (20%) em resposta ao extrato a 5% dos frutos de A. aspera. A inibição da germinação de sementes de todas as plantas daninhas foi maior com o extrato dos frutos do que com os extratos de raiz, caule, folha e planta inteira de A. aspera. A germinação das sementes de todas as plantas daninhas de folhas estreitas foi completamente inibida no extrato a 5% de A. aspera. O maior efeito inibitório fitotóxico do extrato dos frutos de A. aspera foi devido à presença de ácido gálico (88,4 mg kg-1), ácido cafeico (519,2 mg kg-1) e ácido m-cumárico (51,4 mg kg-1), conforme as análises de CLAE. O estudo, portanto, mostrou que a espécie A. aspera exerce efeito inibitório na germinação de plantas daninhas e pode ser mais bem explorada como um herbicida aplicado em pré ou pós-emergência, a fim de fornecer uma alternativa natural aos herbicidas químicos, no futuro.

ABSTRACT: The phytotoxic composition of Achyranthes aspera was identified through HPLC, and its herbicidal potential was investigated against two narrow leaf weeds viz., Phalaris minor Retz. and Avena fatua L.; and four broad leaf weeds viz. Lathyrus aphaca L., Vicia sativa L., Convolvolus arvensis L. and Asphodelus tenuifolius L. through bioassays. Weed seeds were grown in the aqueous extracts of various plant parts (roots, leaf, stem, fruit and whole plant) of A. aspera at 5% (w/v) concentration. The extracts of all plant parts caused significant reductions with differential degree in germination percentage and mean germination time. Phalaris minor, A. fatua, L. aphaca, V. sativa and A. tenuifolius completely failed to germinate whereas C. arvensis showed the lowest GP (20%) in response to 5% fruit extract of A. aspera. Inhibition of seed germination of all weeds was higher with the fruit extract than with the root, stem, leaf and whole plant extracts of A. aspera. Seed germination of all narrow leaf weeds was completely inhibited at the 5% fruit extract of A. aspera. The highest phytotoxic inhibitory effect of A. aspera fruit extract was proved to be due to the presence of gallic acid (88.4 mg kg-1), caffeic acid (519.2 mg g-1) and m-coumaric acid (51.4 mg kg-1) as assessed by their HPLC analyses. The study, therefore, showed that A. aspera exerts an inhibitory effect on germination of weeds and can be further explored as a pre- or post-emergence herbicide to provide natural alternative to chemical herbicides in the future.

RESUMO: A evolução da resistência de plantas daninhas contra todos os principais grupos de herbicidas requer estudos para que sejam identificados os vários fatores responsáveis pelo desenvolvimento dessa resistência. A hormese de herbicidas ainda não foi incluída na lista de fatores que promovem a evolução da resistência. Foram conduzidos estudos para avaliar o grau de hormese em Phalaris minor suscetível e resistente ao fenoxaprop-p-ethyl, com o propósito de fornecer uma primeira indicação sobre se a hormese é um fator potencial no desenvolvimento da resistência. No primeiro experimento, uma ampla gama de doses de até 160% da dosagem recomendada foi usada para identificar potenciais doses horméticas para populações de P. minor resistentes e suscetíveis. Doses abaixo de 40% foram designadas como potenciais doses horméticas. No segundo experimento, dez doses diferentes de fenoxaprop abaixo de 40% (0, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28 e 32% da dose recomendada) foram pulverizadas no estádio de 4-5 folhas de ambas as populações resistentes e suscetíveis de P. minor. Aos 15 dias após a pulverização, as variações de dose de 2-12% e 2-20% provocaram aumento significativo (até 22% e 24%) nas características de crescimento das populações suscetíveis e resistentes, respectivamente. Na maturidade, as variações na dose de 2-12% para as populações suscetíveis e 2-24% para as resistentes causou aumento significativo (até 20% e 57%) no crescimento e potencial de produção de sementes (13% e 17%), respectivamente. O limite superior de variação na dose hormética (16% a 24%) para a população resistente causou inibição das populações suscetíveis. Esses resultados indicam que a hormese do fenoxaprop poderia desempenhar papel vital na evolução da resistência de P. minor ao fenoxaprop.

ABSTRACT: Resistance evolution in weeds against all major herbicide groups demand investigations to identify various factors responsible for resistance development. Herbicide hormesis has not yet been included in the list of factors promoting the evolution of resistance. Studies were conducted to evaluate the degree of hormesis in fenoxaprop-p-ethyl susceptible and resistant Phalaris minor to provide a first indication of whether hormesis is a potential factor in the development of resistance. In the first experiment, a wide range of doses up to 160% of the recommended field rate was used to identify potential hormetic doses for resistant and susceptible P. minor populations. Doses below 40% have been designated as potential hormetic doses. In the second experiment, ten different doses of fenoxaprop below 40% (0, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28 and 32% of the recommended rate) were sprayed at the 4-5 leaf stage of both resistant and susceptible P. minor populations. At fifteen days after spraying, dose range of 2-12% and 2-20% caused a significant increase (up to 22% and 24%) in growth traits of susceptible and resistant populations, respectively. At maturity, dose range of 2-12% for susceptible and 2-24% for resistant populations caused a significant increase (up to 20% and 57%) in growth and seed production potential (13% and 17%), respectively. The upper limit of the hormetic dose range (16 to 24%) for the resistant population was inhibitory for the susceptible populations. These results indicate that fenoxaprop hormesis could play a vital role in the evolution of fenoxaprop resistance in P. minor.

RESUMO: É importante conhecer os efeitos fitotóxicos de resíduos alelopáticos de culturas para gerenciar sua utilização como fonte de corretivos orgânicos a fim de melhorar a fertilidade do solo. Na presente pesquisa, através de estudos com vasos e em campo com duração de 2 anos, examinamos o efeito integrado de tratamentos com resíduos alelopáticos e fertilizantes NPK, incluindo T0 (controle), T1 (200-150-100 kg NPK ha-1), T2 (100-75-50 kg NPK ha-1 + palha de feijão-mungo 4 t ha-1), T3 (100-75-50 kg NPK ha-1 + palha de arroz 4 t ha-1), T4 (palha de feijão-mungo 8 t ha-1) and T5 (palha de arroz 8 t ha-1) sob diferentes regimes de irrigação sobre a fertilidade do solo e a cultura do trigo. A aplicação isolada de resíduos de feijão-mungo e palha de arroz causou inibição significativa de várias características de germinação e de crescimento do trigo. Em contrapartida, ocorreu inibição mínima quando as palhas com potencial alelopático foram integradas com fertilizante NPK, tanto em condições de laboratório quanto de campo, especialmente com menos de 14 dias de ciclos úmido/seco alternados. Entre os tratamentos com fertilizante, o resíduo de feijão-mungo causou maior aumento do carbono orgânico no solo, do azoto disponível e do fósforo disponível, enquanto que o aumento percentual máximo de potássio disponível foi observado com T1 (200-150-100 kg NPK ha-1). Foi observado aumento máximo na produção de grãos (30% e 33%) com T2 (100-75-50 kg NPK ha-1 + palha de feijão mungo 4 t ha-1) durante os períodos de 2014-15 e 2015-16, respectivamente. A integração de resíduos alelopáticos com fertilizantes inorgânicos e os ciclos úmido/seco alternados pode ajudar a reduzir a possível fitotoxicidade de resíduos alelopáticos para a produção de trigo sustentável.

ABSTRACT: Phytotoxic effects of allelopathic crop residues are important to trickle for their use as a source of organic amendments to improve soil fertility. In present study, through pots and two year field studies, we examined the integrated effect of allelopathic residues and NPK fertilizer treatments including T0 (control), T1 (200-150-100 kg NPK ha 1), T2 (100-75-50 kg NPK ha-1 + mung bean straw 4 t ha-1), T3 (100-75-50 kg NPK ha-1 + rice straw 4 t ha-1), T4 (mung bean straw 8 t ha-1) and T5 (rice straw 8 t ha-1) under different water regimes on soil fertility and wheat crop. Solo application of mung bean residue and rice straw caused significant inhibition of various germination and growth traits of wheat while minimal inhibition occurred when allelopathic straws were integrated with NPK fertilizer both under laboratory and field conditions, especially under 14 days of alternate wet/dry cycles. Among fertilizer treatments, mung bean residue caused a greater increase in soil organic carbon, available nitrogen and available phosphorus, while there was maximum percent increase in available potassium with T1 (200-150-100 kg NPK ha-1). Maximum increase in grain yield (30% and 33%) was achieved with T2 (100-75-50 kg NPK ha-1 + mung bean straw 4 t ha-1) during 2014-15 and 2015-16, respectively. Integration of allelopathic crop residues with inorganic fertilizers and alternate wet/dry cycles can help to reduce the possible phytotoxic effect of allelopathic residues for sustainable wheat production.

RESUMO: A utilização pouco eficaz de fertilizantes devido a práticas inadequadas de controle de plantas daninhas é uma das principais causas do baixo rendimento do trigo em todo o mundo. Foi realizado um experimento de campo de dois anos para estudar os efeitos de três níveis de fertilizantes e quatro práticas de controle de plantas daninhas, bem como para verificar a eficiência do uso de fertilizantes e a absorção de nutrientes pelo trigo e plantas daninhas associadas. Os níveis de fertilizantes foram: F0 (0), F1 (75 kg ha-1 N + 50 kg ha-1 P2O5) e F2 (150 kg ha-1 N + 100 kg ha-1 P2O5); e as práticas de controle de plantas daninhas foram: W1 (verificação de plantas daninhas), W2 (pendimethalin aplicado a 1.031 g i.a. ha-1), W3 (isoproturon + carfentrazone-ethyl aplicado a 750 g i.a. ha-1) e W4 (controle manual de plantas daninhas). As diferentes práticas de controle de plantas daninhas reduziram significativamente a absorção de NPK por elas e aumentaram a absorção de NPK pelo trigo. A absorção máxima de NPK pelo trigo e a absorção mínima pelas plantas daninhas foram registradas em W4. O aumento da dose do fertilizante intensificou a absorção de NPK tanto pelas plantas daninhas quanto pelo trigo. No entanto, a melhor eficiência de uso de fertilizantes e o maior rendimento de grãos de trigo ocorreram quando foi aplicada a maior dose de fertilizantes (F2) juntamente com a prática de controle manual de plantas daninhas (W4), seguida por F2 e W3, durante os dois anos. Conclui-se que, para aumentar o rendimento do trigo com maiores doses de fertilizantes, os agricultores devem empregar práticas adequadas de controle de plantas daninhas.

ABSTRACT: Low fertilizer use efficiency due to inappropriate weed control practices is one of the main causes of poor wheat yield worldwide. A 2 year field experiment was conducted to study the effects of three fertilizer levels and four weed control practices on fertilizer use efficiency and nutrient uptake by wheat and its associated weeds. Fertilizer levels were F0 (zero fertilizer), F1 (75 kg ha-1 N + 50 kg ha-1 P2O5), and F2 (150 kg ha-1 N + 100 kg ha-1 P2O5) and weed control included W1 (weedy check), W2 (pendimethalin applied at 1,031 g a.i. ha-1), W3 (isoproturon + carfentrazone ethyl applied at 750 g a.i. ha-1) and W4 (manual weed control). Different weed control practices significantly reduced the NPK uptake by weeds and increased NPK uptake by wheat. Maximum uptake of NPK by wheat and minimum uptake by weeds were recorded in W4. Increasing dose of fertilizer increased NPK uptake by both weeds and wheat. However maximum fertilizer use efficiency and grain yield of wheat were achieved when highest dose of fertilizers (F2) was used along with manual weed control method (W4), which was followed by F2 and W3 during both years. We have come to the conclusion that to achieve higher wheat yield by increasing fertilizer doses, farmers should take appropriate weed control measures.

RESUMO: Aumentos recentes no desenvolvimento da resistência a herbicidas em Phalaris minor no mundo inteiro exigem estratégias não químicas alternativas para controlar essa planta daninha. Uma série de experimentos foi conduzida em condições laboratoriais e de estufa para explorar o potencial herbicida de quatro culturas alelopáticas, incluindo milho, arroz, sorgo e girassol, em diferentes concentrações de extratos aquosos (2,5% e 5%), resíduos (1%, 2% e 4%) e coberturas (4, 8 e 12 toneladas ha-1), contra P. minor resistente ao fenoxaprop. Os extratos aquosos, resíduos e coberturas proporcionaram controle de 86-100%, 73-100% e 16-40%, respectivamente, desse biótipo de planta daninha resistente. A redução na biomassa seca devido a extratos aquosos, resíduos e coberturas foi de 48-100%, 48-100% e 20-54%, respectivamente. As coberturas causaram também redução de 17-41% no potencial de produção de sementes de P. minor. Menores concentrações de aleloquímicos mostraram hormese (efeito positivo) contra algumas características de emergência e crescimento de P. minor. Os produtos químicos fitotóxicos dessas quatro culturas têm forte potencial herbicida contra P. minor resistente a herbicidas e podem ser usados como uma alternativa orgânica para controlá-la, garantindo uma produção sustentável de trigo.

ABSTRACT: Recent increases in the development of herbicide resistance in Phalaris minor worldwide demand alternative non-chemical strategies to control this weed. A series of experiments were conducted under laboratory and greenhouse conditions to explore the herbicidal potential of four allelopathic crops, including maize, rice, sorghum and sunflower, at different concentrations of aqueous extracts (2.5% and 5%), residues (1%, 2% and 4%) and mulches (4, 8, and 12 ton ha-1) against fenoxaprop-resistant P. minor. Aqueous extracts, residues and mulches provided 86-100%, 73-100% and 16-40% control of this resistant weed biotype, respectively. The dry biomass reduction due to aqueous extracts, residues and mulches was 48-100%, 48-100% and 20-54%, respectively. Mulches also caused 17-41% reduction in the seed production potential of P. minor. Lower concentrations of allelochemicals showed hormesis (positive effect) against some emergence and growth traits of P. minor. The phytotoxic chemicals of these four crops have a strong herbicidal potential against herbicide-resistant P. minor, and can be used as an organic alternative to control herbicide resistant P. minor, thus ensuring a sustainable wheat production.

RESUMO As plantas daninhas aquáticas são plantas superiores encontradas no ecossistema aquático e em plantações de arroz anaeróbio, onde não têm vantagens econômicas. A continuidade das plantas daninhas aquáticas é mais difundida do que a das plantas daninhas terrestres, pois nos ecossistemas aquáticos há flutuação muito baixa nas condições ambientais, em comparação com ecossistemas terrestres. Os cientistas têm trabalhado para abordar os efeitos nocivos alelopáticos dessas plantas nos ecossistemas aquáticos, mas há informações limitadas à disposição sobre a influência alelopática das plantas daninhas no ecossistema agrícola através da liberação de compostos fitotóxicos. Os compostos químicos fitotóxicos liberados por diferentes plantas daninhas aquáticas na água de irrigação e/ou diretamente no ecossistema do arroz podem ter significativa influência inibitória na germinação, no crescimento e rendimento das culturas, nas propriedades do solo e na disponibilidade de nutrientes, na estrutura da população e da comunidade e na invasão de plantas daninhas. No entanto, as plantas daninhas aquáticas podem ser usadas como uma potencial alternativa orgânica ao controle químico das plantas infestantes, devido à maior suscetibilidade das plantas daninhas terrestres aos compostos químicos fitotóxicos liberados pelas plantas daninhas aquáticas. Alternativas naturais ao controle químico das infestantes precisam de tempo e são cruciais para um controle sustentável. O controle químico das infestantes é desafiado pelo recente aumento da resistência aos herbicidas nas plantas daninhas e pelos efeitos colaterais nocivos dos herbicidas no ambiente. Esta revisão está focada na influência de plantas daninhas aquáticas em ecossistemas agrícolas, com exemplos de plantas daninhas comuns em ecossistemas aquáticos e plantas daninhas aquáticas invasivas encontradas em arroz anaeróbio.

ABSTRACT Aquatic weeds are higher plants found in the aquatic ecosystem and in anaerobic rice fields, where they have no economic benefits. The continuance of aquatic weeds is more widespread than terrestrial weeds because in aquatic ecosystems there is very little fluctuation in the environmental conditions compared with terrestrial ecosystems. Scientists have been working to address the harmful allelopathic effects of aquatic weeds on the aquatic ecosystem, but limited information is available on the allelopathic influence of aquatic weeds on agro-ecosystems through the release of phytotoxic compounds. Phytotoxic chemicals released by different aquatic weeds into irrigation water and/or directly into rice ecosystems might have a significant inhibitory influence on germination, growth and yield field crops, soil properties and nutrients availability, population and community structure, and weed invasion. However, aquatic weeds might also be used as a potential organic alternative to chemical weed-control, due to the higher susceptibility of terrestrial weeds to the phototoxic chemicals released by aquatic weeds. Natural alternatives to chemical weed control are need of time and are crucial for a sustainable weed control. Chemical weed control is challenged, due to recent increases in herbicides resistance from weeds and to the harmful side-effects of herbicides on the environment. This review is focused on the influence of aquatic weeds on agro-ecosystems, with examples of common weeds in aquatic ecosystems and invasive aquatic weeds found in anaerobic rice.
