ABSTRACT: Scientific research on passion fruit has been conducted in several institutions worldwide, and it is of interest to the productive sector, the scientific community, and science and technology managers to learn about current scientific advances and opportunities through metric studies of bibliographic information. A survey of publications indexed in the Web of Science and the Agricultural Research Database-BDPA, in European Patent Office - Espacenet, and Embrapa’s technologies and projects were used as indicators to characterize research networks. This study analyzed the co-authorship and co-citation network of scientific production, the strength of connections among institutions, and a map of co-occurrence of keywords from 2001 to 2020. Brazil, the United States, Colombia, and France had the largest co-authorship networks for Passifloraceae. Brazilian institutions that are in a prominent position in the analysis of co-authorship networks and that produced the largest number of publications were Embrapa, University of São Paulo (USP), and State University of Campinas (Unicamp). The main themes studied were adsorption, antioxidant, clarification, evolution, flavonoid, flowering, growth, and somatic embryogenesis. Patents related to the use of passifloras were highest between 2015 and 2017 and were mainly focused on the production of food, beverages, cosmetics, and medicines. Brazil has relevant bibliographic production and technological development regarding passion fruit for the academic community and rural producers. These results integrated aspects of scientific activity that can help explore new research directions and explain the use and circulation of scientific production.

RESUMO: As pesquisas sobre o maracujá são realizadas em diversas instituições ao redor do mundo e é de interesse do setor produtivo, da comunidade científica e dos gestores de ciência e tecnologia, conhecer a dinâmica da ciência por meio de estudos métricos das informações bibliográficas. O levantamento das publicações indexadas na Web of Science e na Base de Dados de Pesquisa Agropecuária da Embrapa (BDPA), os registros no Escritório Europeu de Patentes - Espacenet, as tecnologias e os projetos da Embrapa foram utilizados como indicadores para caracterizar as redes de pesquisa sobre os maracujás. Este estudo analisou a rede de coautoria e cocitação da produção científica, a força de conexão entre as instituições e o mapa de coocorrência de palavras-chave entre 2001 e 2020. Brasil, Estados Unidos, Colômbia e França tiveram as maiores redes de coautoria em Passifloraceaes. As instituições brasileiras em posição de destaque na análise das redes de coautoria e que produziram o maior número de publicações foram Embrapa, USP e Unicamp. Os principais temas estudados foram adsorção, antioxidante, clarificação, evolução, flavonoide, floração, crescimento e embriogênese somática. As patentes relacionadas ao uso do maracujá tiveram destaque entre 2015 e 2017 com foco na produção de alimentos, bebidas, cosméticos e medicamentos. O Brasil possui relevante produção bibliográfica e desenvolvimento tecnológico sobre o maracujá tanto para a comunidade acadêmica quanto para os produtores rurais. Estes resultados integram aspectos da atividade científica que poderão prospectar novos direcionamentos de pesquisa e tornar conhecidos o uso e a circulação da produção científica.

Abstract The Embrapa Cerrados pitaya breeding program developed five superior genotypes of different species. The objective of this work was to evaluate the yield capacity of these five pitaya genotypes under the edaphoclimatic conditions of the Federal District. The experiment was carried out at the Embrapa Cerrados in Planaltina, DF. The five selected pitaya genotypes were evaluated, as well as a parent genotype used in the breeding program. Length (CF), diameter (DF) and mass (MF) of all fruits were evaluated, as well as the length/diameter ratio (CF.DF-1), number of fruits per plant (NF.PL-1), production per plant (kg.PL-1) and estimated productivity (t.ha-1). BRS Luz do Cerrado and BRS Lua do Cerrado presented larger and heavier fruits, while BRS Minipitaya do Cerrado presented the smallest fruits. CPAC Roxa and BRS Granada do Cerrado presented more rounded fruits. BRS Granada do Cerrado had the highest yield capacity in the two evaluated crops. The results obtained prove the importance of genetic breeding and the selection of superior genotypes more adapted to the region of cultivation, in order to guarantee greater profitability and products of better quality to rural producers and consumers.

Resumo O programa de melhoramento genético de pitaia da Embrapa Cerrados desenvolveu cinco genótipos superiores de diferentes espécies. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a capacidade produtiva destes cinco genótipos de pitaia sob as condições edafoclimáticas do Distrito Federal. O experimento foi conduzido na Unidade de Apoio da Fruticultura da Embrapa Cerrados, no município de Planaltina-DF. Foram avaliados os cinco genótipos selecionados de pitaia, bem como um genótipo progenitor utilizado no programa de melhoramento. Avaliaram-se o comprimento (CF), o diâmetro (DF) e a massa (MF) de todos os frutos, bem como a relação comprimento/diâmetro (CF.DF-1), número de frutos por planta (NF.PL-1), produção por planta (kg.PL-1) e produtividade estimada (t.ha-1). A BRS Luz do Cerrado e a BRS Lua do Cerrado, apresentaram frutos maiores e mais pesados, enquanto a BRS Minipitaia do Cerrado apresentou os menores frutos. A CPAC Roxa e a BRS Granada do Cerrado apresentaram frutos mais arredondados. A BRS Granada do Cerrado apresentou a maior capacidade de produção nas duas safras avaliadas. Os resultados obtidos comprovam a importância do melhoramento genético e da seleção de genótipos superiores mais adaptados para a região de cultivo, a fim de garantir maior rentabilidade e produtos de melhor qualidade ao produtor rural e aos consumidores.

Abstract The burrowing nematode Radopholus similis is among the most damaging pathogens. Resistant plants are one of the most promising approaches for nematode control, and knowledge of resistance and aggressiveness components is essential to understand resistance genetics and developing new cultivars. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the degree of resistance of eight banana accessions to populations of R. similis to verify differences in the reproduction capacity between nematode populations and to study the horizontal/vertical resistance and aggressiveness/ virulence components of Musa spp. and R. similis pathosystem. The accessions 4249-05, 4279-06, Yangambi Km5, 0323-03, 0337-02, 1304-06, Borneo and Grande Naine were inoculated with one of three R. similis populations from the Brazilian states of Pernambuco, Distrito Federal, and Santa Catarina and kept in a greenhouse. Accessions 4249-05, Yangambi Km5, 0323-03, and 4279-06 showed different resistance levels, and the Pernambuco population had the highest reproductive capacity. Using Griffing Model IV, evidence of vertical and horizontal resistance was observed, with accessions 4249-05 and Yangambi km5 showing the highest levels of horizontal resistance.

Resumo O nematoide cavernícola, Radopholus similis, está entre os patógenos de banana mais prejudiciais. Plantas resistentes são uma das abordagens mais promissoras para o controle de nematoides. O conhecimento de componentes da resistência e da agressividade é essencial para entender a genética de resistência e para desenvolver novas cultivares. Portanto, o objetivo deste estudo foi acessar o grau de resistência de oito acessos de bananeira a populações de R. similis, verificar diferenças na capacidade de reprodução entre populações de nematoides e estudar os componentes de resistência horizontal/vertical e agressividade/virulência no patossistema Musa spp. e R. similis. Os acessos 4249-05, 4279- 06, Yangambi Km5, 0323-03, 0337-02, 1304-06, Borneo e Grande Naine foram inoculados com cada uma das três populações de R. similis (Pernambuco (PE), Distrito Federal (DF) ou Santa Catarina (SC)) e mantidos em casa de vegetação. Os acessos 4249-05, Yangambi Km5, 0323-03 e 4279-06 expressaram diferentes níveis de resistência, e a população do nematoide de PE foi a que apresentou maior capacidade de multiplicação. Baseado no Modelo IV de Griffing, evidências de resistência vertical e horizontal foram observadas, sendo que os acessos 4249-05 e Yangambi km5 foram os que apresentaram maiores níveis de resistência horizontal.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the effect of fruit maturation stages and pre-germination treatments with plant regulators on the physiological quality of seeds of cv. BRS Mel do Cerrado. Two experiments were carried out, germination and emergence, installed in a completely randomized design in a 3 x 2 factorial arrangement, with three stages maturation (1-partially ripe fruits; 2-fully ripe fruits and 3-senescent fruits) and two pre-germination treatments (1. [GA4+7 +N-(phenylmethyl)-aminopurine (300 ppm)] and 2. distilled water), forming six treatments with four replications of 50 seeds. The evaluated characteristics were germination percentage at 14 and 35 days, germination speed index (GSI), emergence percentage and emergence speed index (ESI). Germination at 14 days, GSI and seedling emergence were not affected by the maturation stage, however germination and GSI were higher when the plant regulator was used. The final percentage of germination was higher in seeds taken from partially ripe fruits and treated with regulators and a higher ESI was observed for seeds from senescent fruits and treated with regulator. Seeds treated with plant regulators are more vigorous and have a higher rate of seedling emergence.

Resumo Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito de estádios de maturação de frutos e de tratamentos pré-germinativos com reguladores vegetais na qualidade fisiológica das sementes de maracujá doce cv. BRS Mel do Cerrado. Foram realizados dois experimentos, de germinação e de emergência, instalados em delievalneamento inteiramente casualizado, em arranjo fatorial 3 x 2, sendo três estádios dematuração (1-frutos parcialmente maduros; 2-frutos totalmente maduros, e 3-frutossenescentes) e dois tratamentos pré-germinativos (1. [GA4+7 +N-(fenilmetil)-aminopurina(300 ppm)]e 2. água destilada), formando seis tratamentos com quatro repetições de 50sementes. As características avaliadas foram percentagem de germinação, aos 14 e 35 dias, índice de velocidade de germinação (IVG), percentagem de emergência e índice de velocidade deemergência(IVE). A germinação, aos 14 dias, o IVG e a emergência de plântulas não foramafetados pelos estádios de maturação; entretanto, a germinação e o IVG foram maioresquando se utilizaram os reguladores vegetais. A porcentagem final de germinação foi maior para sementes retiradas de frutos parcialmente maduros e tratadas com reguladoresvegetais e observou-se maior IVE para sementes de frutos senescentes e tratadas comreguladores. Sementes tratadas com reguladores vegetais são mais vigorosas e apresentam maior velocidade de emergência de plântulas.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar e comparar a diversidade genética de 29 genótipos de cevada, com base em marcadores moleculares e características agronômicas quantitativas, sob irrigação no Cerrado. Foram utilizados os marcadores moleculares “randomly amplified polymorphic DNA” (RAPD), “inter simple sequence repeats” (ISSR) e “simple sequence repeat” (SSR). As características agronômicas quantitativas foram avaliadas em dois ambientes, sob irrigação no Cerrado, quanto aos seguintes parâmetros: rendimento estimado de grãos, tamanho do grão, peso de mil sementes, altura de plantas, grau de acamamento e dias para espigamento. Os polimorfismos dos marcadores foram 91, 51,46 e 85% para RAPD, ISSR e SSR, respectivamente. Os marcadores RAPD, ISSR e SSR são complementares quanto à identificação da variabilidade genética dos genótipos de cevada. As baixas correlações entre as distâncias calculadas com base nos marcadores moleculares e as distâncias calculadas com base nas características agronômicas enfatizam a importância da utilização de análises complementares de marcadores moleculares para estudos mais completos quanto à variabilidade genética. As características agronômicas dos genótipos são distintas nos dois ambientes. Os genótipos selecionados podem compor a coleção de trabalho de cevada irrigada no Cerrado, em razão de sua ampla variabilidade genética.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate and compare the genetic diversity of 29 barley genotypes, on the basis of molecular markers and quantitative agronomic traits, under irrigation in the Brazilian Cerrado. The randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD), inter sequence simple repeats (ISSR), and simple sequence repeat (SSR) molecular markers were used. The quantitative agronomic traits were evaluated in two irrigated environments in the Brazilian Cerrado, for the following parameters: estimated grain yield, grain size, thousand seed weight, plant height, lodging degree, and days to heading. Marker polymorphisms were 91, 51.46, and 85% for RAPD, ISSR, and SSR, respectively. The RAPD, ISSR, and SSR markers are complementary for the identification of genetic variability among barley genotypes. The low correlations between the distances estimated on the basis of molecular markers and the distances estimated on the basis of agronomic traits emphasize the importance of using complementary analyses of molecular markers for more complete studies on genetic variability. The agronomic traits of the genotypes are different in the two environments. The selected genotypes can compose the working collection of irrigated barley in the Brazilian Cerrado because of their wide genetic variability.

Resumo A introgressão de genes de resistência a doenças em variedades comerciais, por meio de cruzamentos interespecíficos, tem sido adotada como estratégia nos programas de melhoramento de maracujá-azedo. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar 11 progênies de híbridos multiespecíficos obtidas através de cruzamentos envolvendo sete espécies de Passiflora, além de quatro cultivares comerciais, utilizando o método REML/BLUP. O experimento foi conduzido em blocos casualizados, com seis repetições e três plantas por parcela. Dez caracteres foram avaliados. Os índices aditivo, multiplicativo e de soma de ranks foram utilizados para determinar a estratégia de seleção mais adequada no melhoramento simultâneo de peso de fruto, no número de frutos e na produtividade. Plantas da progênie 325 x VAO apresentaram menor índice de desfolhamento por bacteriose e melhores médias preditas para os caracteres número de frutos e para produtividade. As progênies 325 x LD4, PL3 x LD4 e testemunhas CSB-Marília e BRS-Gigante amarelo apresentaram plantas com melhores médias preditas para caracteres relacionados à qualidade de fruto. Os ganhos genéticos obtidos demonstraram boas perspectivas para o uso de espécies silvestres no melhoramento genético do maracujá.

Abstract The interspecific introgression of resistance genes to diseases in commercial varieties through interspecific crosses has been adopted as a strategy in breeding programs of sour passion fruit. This work aimed to evaluate 11 progenies of multispecific hybrids obtained from crosses involving seven Passiflora species, in addition to four commercial cultivars, using the REML/BLUP method. The experiment was carried out as a randomized block design with six repetitions and three plants per plot. Ten fruit traits were evaluated. The additive, multiplicative, and sum of ranks indexes were applied to determine the most appropriate selective strategy in the simultaneous increase of fruit weight, number of fruits, and yield. Plants from the 325 x VAO progeny showed a lower bacterial defoliation index and better means predicted for the traits number of fruits and productivity. The progenies 325 x LD4, PL3 x LD4, and the controls CSB-Marília and BRS-Gigante Amarelo showed plants with better-predicted means for traits related to fruit quality. The genetic gains demonstrated good prospects for the use of wild species in sour passion fruit genetic breeding.

RESUMO Para o maracujazeiro-da-caatinga (Passiflora cincinnata Mast.), não há indicações de variedades específicas para condições de Cerrado e técnicas de condução que possibilitem a expressão de maior potencial produtivo. Objetivou-se avaliar a produtividade e qualidade de populações CPEF2220 e CBAF2334 em sistema de condução espaldeira e latada. Utilizou-se delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em arranjo fatorial 2 x 2, com três repetições de quatro plantas por parcela. Foram avaliadas a produtividade e características físicas dos frutos ao longo do ciclo produtivo. A produtividade média foi de 8,0 kg planta-1 (3,5-14,9 kg planta-1) e o número médio de frutos por planta de 139,1 (55,8-283,5), com rendimento médio de polpa de 29 %. Houve tendência de aumento no número e produtividade de frutos na população CPEF2220 conduzida em espaldeira. A taxa de sobrevivência das plantas foi de 41 % (CPEF2220) e 87,5 % (CBAF2334), com maior adaptação às condições de Cerrado, enquanto a população CPEF2220 apresentou maior potencial produtivo. Houve reduções na massa, diâmetro longitudinal e equatorial e formato do fruto ao longo da safra, com algumas exceções no sistema espaldeira, o qual evidenciou frutos mais alongados. O sistema latada apresentou maior potencial produtivo de populações dos genitores do maracujazeiro BRS Sertão Forte, para as condições em estudo.

ABSTRACT For the Caatinga passion fruit (Passiflora cincinnata Mast.), there are no indications of varieties specific for the Brazilian Savanna conditions, as well as conduction techniques that make it possible to express a greater yield potential. This study aimed to evaluate the yield and quality of CPEF2220 and CBAF2334 populations in espalier and trellis conduction systems. A completely randomized design was used, in a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement, with three replications of four plants per plot. The fruit yield and physical characteristics were evaluated throughout the production cycle. The average yield was 8.0 kg plant-1 (3.5-14.9 kg plant-1) and the average number of fruits per plant was 139.1 (55.8-283.5), with average pulp yield of 29 %. There was a tendency to increase the number and yield of fruits for the CPEF2220 population conducted in the espalier system. The plant survival rate was 41 % (CPEF2220) and 87.5 % (CBAF2334), with a higher adaptation to the Brazilian Savanna conditions, while the CPEF2220 population presented a higher yield potential. Reductions in mass, longitudinal and equatorial diameter and fruit shape were observed throughout the harvest, with some exceptions for the espalier system, which showed more elongated fruits. The trellis system showed a greater yield potential for the parent populations of the passion fruit BRS Sertão Forte, for the study conditions.

RESUMO Passiflora cincinnata Mast. (maracujá da caatinga), possui frutos ácidos com sabor peculiar, coloração verde quando maduros e baixo percentual de abscisão dificultando a identificação do ponto de colheita. Com o objetivo de verificar o período de colheita em duas populações de P. cincinnata, flores foram marcadas na antese e após seis períodos os frutos foram colhidos. Avaliou-se a massa dos frutos, sementes e polpa, dimensões e formato dos frutos, percentual de água, cor e textura da casca, volume, cor e rendimento de polpa, pH, sólidos solúveis (SS), acidez titulável, Ratio, teor de polifenois, flavonoides e antocianinas. O ensaio foi esquematizado em delineamento inteiramente casualizado em arranjo fatorial (2x6), sendo duas populações (CPEF2220 e CBAF2334) e seis períodos de colheita (20, 40, 60, 80, 100 e 120 dias após a antese - DAA) com quatro repetições. Houve redução na espessura (43,1%) e porcentagem de água na casca (9,3%), pH (40,1%), Ratio, teor de polifenois e luminosidade da polpa. Observou-se aumentos na massa e volume da polpa, massa de sementes, rendimento da massa da polpa em relação ao fruto (72%), acidez titulável e SS (44,9%) em CPEF2220 e igualdade entre as populações no formato do fruto, cor da polpa, espessura e cor da casca (luminosidade e ºhue), pH e polifenois. Apesar que após 100 DAA ocorreram maiores rendimentos, entre 60 e 80 DAA foi possível identificar caraterísticas de SS, pH, acidez titulável, massa, volume e rendimento de polpa relativos a frutos maduros, permitindo a colheita após 60 DAA.

ABSTRACT Passiflora cincinnata Mast. (caatinga passion fruit) has acidic fruits with a peculiar flavor, green color when ripe and a low percentage of abscission making it difficult to identify the point of harvest. In order to verify the harvest period in two populations of P.cincinnata, flowers were marked in anthesis and after six periods the fruits were harvested. This study evaluated fruit mass, seeds and pulp mass, fruit dimensions and shape, percentage of water, color and texture of skin, volume, color and pulp yield, pH, soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity ratio, polyphenol content, flavonoids and anthocyanins. The assay was designed in a completely randomized design in a factorial arrangement (2x6), with two populations (CPEF2220 and CBAF2334) and six harvest periods (20, 40, 60, 80, 100 and 120 days after anthesis - DAA) with four repetitions. There was a reduction in thickness (43.1%) and percentage of water in the skin (9.3%), pH (40.1%), ratio, polyphenols content and pulp luminosity (brightness). There were increases in pulp mass and volume, seed mass, pulp mass yield in relation to the fruit (72%), and SS titratable acidity (44.9%) in CPEF2220 and equality between populations in fruit shape, pulp color, thickness and skin color (luminosity and ºhue), pH and polyphenols. Although after 100 DAA there were higher yields, between 60 and 80 DAA it was possible to identify characteristics of SS, pH, titratable acidity, mass, volume and pulp yield related to ripe fruits, allowing harvesting after 60 DAA.

RESUMO: Os programas de melhoramento genético de mandioca de mesa estão focados no desenvolvimento de variedades biofortificadas que aliem aos caracteres agronômicos a presença de carotenoides nas raízes de reserva. Neste trabalho, objetivou-se avaliar características agronômicas e bioquímicas em clones de mandioca de mesa com polpa rosada. Os nove genótipos foram avaliados por duas safras em delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados com três repetições. Dentre os clones avaliados se destacaram: i) para altura da primeira ramificação (390/08, 345/08 e a testemunha IAC 576-70); ii) para altura da planta (390/08, 345/08 e 378/08); iii) para peso da parte aérea sem a cepa (390/08, 406/08, 378/08 e 341/08); iv) para porcentagem de amido nas raízes (378/08, 413/08, 390/08 e a testemunha IAC 576-70); v) para produtividade de raízes (IAC 576-70 e 341/08, 390/08, 406/08 e 387/08). Na safra 2011/2012, todos os clones cozinharam em até 30 minutos, indicando que todos apresentam boas qualidades culinárias. Com relação ao teor de carotenoides totais nas raízes, os clones que se destacaram foram 406/08 e 341/08. Todos os clones avaliados apresentaram teores de HCN nas raízes de reserva de mandioca, inferiores a 100 mg kg-1. Os clones 341/08 e 406/08 apresentam potencial agronômico e bioquímico para cultivo direto pelos produtores na região do Cerrado do Brasil Central e/ou para a utilização como genitores em programas de melhoramento genético de mandioca de mesa.

ABSTRACT: Sweet cassava breeding programs are focused on the development of bio fortified cultivars that combine significant amounts of carotenoids in their reserve roots with desirable agronomic. The objective of this research was to evaluate agronomic and biochemical traits in sweet cassava clones with roots that have pink pulp. The nine genotypes were evaluated in two seasons in a randomized block design with three replications. Among the evaluated clones, the following stood out: i) for the height of the first branch (390/08, 345/08 and the control IAC 576-70); ii) for plant height (390/08, 345/08 e 378/08); iii) for shoot weight without original steam cutting (390/08, 406/08, 378/08 e 341/08); iv) for the percentage of starch in roots (378/08, 413/08, 390/08 and the control IAC 576-70); and v) for the root yield (the control IAC 576-70 and 341/08, 390/08, 406/08 e 387/08). In the 2011/2012 season, all clones cooked within 30 minutes, indicating that they all have good culinary qualities. Regarding the total carotenoid content in the roots, the clones that stood out were 406/08 and 341/08. All clones evaluated had HCN content below 100 mg kg-1. Clones 341/08 and 406/08 have agronomic and biochemical potential for direct cultivation by producers in the Cerrado region of Central Brazil and / or for use as stock in sweet cassava breeding programs.

Resumo A produtividade do maracujazeiro no Brasil possui grandes variações entre produtores de diferentes Estados e regiões, em função de tecnologias adotadas. Neste trabalho, objetivou-se avaliar o perfil dos produtores e o uso de tecnologias na atividade produtiva de maracujá, na região do Triângulo Mineiro, impulsionada pela indústria de suco local. A pesquisa foi feita de 2018 a 2019, utilizando a metodologia do Diagnóstico Comportamental da Atividade Produtiva (DCAP), a partir da análise do perfil de 22 produtores, em oito municípios, e os dados foram submetidos à análise estatística descritiva e multivariada. A maioria dos produtores cultiva maracujá em até 5 ha, em regime familiar de trabalho, e possui pouco tempo de experiência. O sistema de cultivo é a céu aberto em espaldeira, com ciclo de produção de 1,5 ano. A maioria dos produtores faz polinização manual, adubação química e orgânica, e não adota, sistematicamente, o manejo integrado de pragas e doenças. As mudas são adquiridas de viveiros habilitados, e a cultivar mais plantada é a FB 300. Os principais prejuízos relatados foram causados por seca e danos no botão floral, com produtividade média de frutos de 17 t ha-1 ano-1. A cadeia produtiva está estruturada, mas há necessidade de intervenções técnicas para aumentar a rentabilidade e a sustentabilidade do sistema de produção.

Abstract Productivity of passion fruit in Brazil varies widely among producers in different states and regions depending on the adoption of technologies. In this study, the goal was to evaluate the producers profile and use of technologies in passion fruit production in the Triângulo Mineiro region, driven by the local juice industry. The research was carried out from 2018 to 2019, using Behavioral Diagnosis of Productive Activity methodology, based on questionnaires applied to 22 producers in eight cities. The data were submitted to descriptive and multivariate statistical analysis. Most producers grow passion fruit in up to 5 ha, in a family work regimen, and have little experience. The cultivation system is open field in vertical trellis, with a production cycle of 1.5 years. The great majority use manual pollination, chemical and organic fertilization, and do not systematically adopt integrated phytosanitary management. The seedlings are purchased from qualified nurseries and the most planted cultivar is the FB 300. The main losses reported by producers were caused by drought and damage to floral bud, with an average fruit yield of 17 t ha-1 year-1. This production chain is structured but requires technical interventions to increase the profitability and sustainability of the production system.

RESUMO: Há séculos, populações de plantas vem sendo selecionadas a fim de se obter linhagens com maior desempenho agronômico. Para o sucesso da seleção, a variabilidade genética é essencial, sendo que dentro do gênero Passiflora há grande variabilidade inter e intraespecífica. Neste trabalho, objetivou-se avaliar as características físicas de frutos de genótipos elite de maracujazeiro-doce (Passiflora alata) para fins de seleção. Foram avaliadas a massa, diâmetros longitudinal e equatorial de frutos, espessura e coloração da casca e massa e volume de polpa com e sem sementes e rendimentos de polpa. As fontes de variação para análise de variância foram os frutos de oito genótipos elite, com três repetições, cujas médias foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey a 1% de probabilidade. Foram realizadas ainda análises multivariadas e de correlação entre as características. Houve diferenças estatísticas entre os genótipos elite para a maioria das características avaliadas. O genótipo elite sete foi o que apresentou maior rendimento de polpa sem sementes, em relação ao fruto e maior massa de fruto. Análises de agrupamento e dispersão gráfica evidenciaram uma tendência de agrupamento dos genótipos elite com base no formato dos frutos. A população apresenta variabilidade genética, que permite novos ciclos de seleção para ganho em rendimento de polpa e massa dos frutos.

ABSTRACT: Over several past centuries, specific plant populations have been carefully selected to filter strains with higher agronomic performance. Genetic variability is most essential for successful selection. The Passiflora genus offers great inter- and intra-specific variability. This study aimed to evaluate the physical characteristics of the genotypes of the elite passion fruit (Passiflora alata) for selection purpose. We considered the physical traits of fruit mass, longitudinal and equatorial diameters, peel thickness and color, and pulp mass and volume without and with seeds and pulp yield. The sources of variation for the analysis of variance included the fruits of 8 elite genotypes, with 3 replications, whose means were compared by Tukey’s test at 1% probability. We also performed multivariate analysis and correlation between these characteristics. Statistical differences were noted between elite genotypes for most of the tested traits. The elite 7 genotype presented with the highest seedless pulp yield in relation to the fruit and the largest fruit mass. Cluster analysis and graphic dispersion revealed a tendency for clustering of the elite genotypes based on their fruit shape. The tested population showed genetic variability, which allowed new selection cycles toward gaining pulp yield and fruit mass.

ABSTRACT: Genetic redundancy in cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) presents a challenge to efficient management of genetic resources. This study aimed to identify and define the genetic structure of duplicates in cassava germplasm from various Embrapa research units, using single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers. We evaluated 2,371 accessions with 20,712 SNPs. The identification of duplicates was performed based on multilocus genotypes (MLG), adopting a maximum genetic distance threshold of 0.05. The population structure was defined based on discriminant analysis of principal components (DAPC). A total of 1,757 unique and 614 duplicate accessions were identified. The redundancy of the collections ranged from 17 % (Belém, PA – Brazil) to 39 % (Petrolina, PE – Brazil), with an average of 21 %. This redundancy between different research units is probably due to the historical sharing of accessions, as well as collections carried out in the same region, or even to the intense germplasm exchange between farmers with different genotype names. In terms of genetic structure, the 250 principal components explained 88 % of the genetic variation of the SNP markers and defined the hierarchical structure of the duplicate cassava germplasm in 12 groups. Since heterotic groups have not yet been identified for cassava, crosses between accessions of the 12 DAPC groups may be promising. All MLGs were allocated within the same DAPC group, corroborating duplicate analyses yet still revealing high variability between groups that were quite distinct based on the first two discriminant functions. Our results contribute to optimizing the conservation of genetic resources, together with understanding diversity and its use in crop improvement.

Resumo O Brasil é considerado o centro de origem e de diversidade das passifloras, que apresentam importância, tanto para o consumo in natura, industrialização, uso medicinal e também como plantas ornamentais. As diferentes espécies de Passiflora hospedam uma grande diversidade de artrópodes que, ocasionando injúrias, podem causar danos econômicos e morte da planta. Dentre os artrópodes, as lagartas-desfolhadoras são consideradas as pragas mais frequentes e severas nas principais regiões produtoras de maracujá. Assim, o objetivo foi informar o primeiro registro da ocorrência das espécies Isia alcumena, Spodoptera cosmioides e S. eridania atacando maracujazeiros no Distrito Federal, Brasil. As lagartas de S. cosmioides e S. eridania foram coletadas enquanto consumiam folhas de híbridos intraespecíficos de Passiflora edulis cultivado no banco ativo de germoplasma “Flor da Paixão” da Embrapa Cerrados. Já as lagartas de I. alcumena foram coletadas em folhas da cultivar BRS Rubi do Cerrado, na Unidade de Apoio da Fruticultura da Embrapa Cerrados. Após a coleta, as lagartas foram individualizadas em sistema de criação com folhas das plantas hospedeiras. O desenvolvimento das lagartas foi acompanhado até à emergência dos adultos, que foram identificados e fixados em alfinetes entomológicos para preservação permanente, a seco.

Abstract Brazil is considered the center of origin and diversity of passifloras. These species have a great importance to in natura fruits consumption, industrialization, medicinal use and also as ornamental plants. The different Passiflora speciesare host of a great diversity of arthropods that can cause injuries, economic damages and, in some situations, the plant death. Among the arthropods, leafhopper caterpillars are considered frequent and severe pests in the main passion fruit producing regions. The present work is an occurrence report of Isia alcumena and Spodoptera cosmioides attacking passion fruit plants (Passiflora edulis Sims) in the Federal District, Brazil. The S. cosmioides and S. eridania caterpillars were collected while consuming leaves of Passiflora edulis intra-specific hybrid located in the Germplasm Active Bank ‘Flor da Paixão’ at Embrapa Cerrados. The caterpillars of I. alcumena were collected on leaves of the Passiflora edulis cv. BRS Rubi do Cerrado at the Agricultural Support Unit, Embrapa Cerrados. After collected, the caterpillars were individualized in a breeding system with leaves of the host plants. The development of the caterpillar was accompanied until the emergence of the adults, which were identified and fixed in entomological pins for permanent dry preservation.

Resumo Passiflora cincinnata Mast., conhecida como maracujá da caatinga ocorre no Semiárido nordestino, Goiás, Minas Gerais e na Bahia. A região de cultivo e os sistemas de manejo das espécies do gênero Passiflora podem interferir na qualidade físico-química dos frutos. Objetivou-se avaliar características físico-química e química dos frutos de duas progênies (CPEF220 e CBAF2334) selecionadas de P. cincinnata conduzidas em espaldeira e latada. Frutos no estádio de maturação fisiológica foram avaliados quanto à coloração e textura da casca, pH, sólidos solúveis totais, acidez titulável, ratio, flavonoides, antocianinas e polifenóis da polpa sem sementes. Foi utilizado o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 x 2 (progênies x sistemas de condução), com três repetições de quatro plantas. Foi realizada a análise de variância, e as médias foram comparadas utilizando o teste de Tukey, a 5% de probabilidade. Os frutos da seleção CBAF2334 apresentaram mais pigmentos verdes e mais flavonoides. Os frutos foram caracterizados de coloração verde com nuances amareladas, com baixa saturação de cor, nas duas populações. O sistema de condução não afetou as características físicas, físico-química e os teores de antocianinas e polifenóis das progênies de P. cincinnata. Os frutos das espaldeiras apresentaram 56,73% a mais de flavonoides em comparação aos obtidos na latada.

Abstract Passiflora cincinnata Mast. or Caatinga passion fruit is widely cultivated in the northeastern semi-arid regions of Goiás, Minas Gerais, and Bahia. The system of cultivation and field management of the Passiflora species affects the physicochemical quality of its fruits. In this study, we evaluated the chemical and physico-chemical characteristics of the fruits of 2 progenies (CPEF2220 and CBAF2334) of P. cincinnata species using the vertical and horizontal trellis system. Fruits were collected from the plants at their physiological maturation stage and tested for the fruit skin color and texture and the pH, total soluble solids, titratable acidity, pulp acidity ratio, and the contents of flavonoids, anthocyanins, and polyphenols in the seedless fruit pulp. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2 x 2 factorial scheme (progenies x conduction system) performed in 3 replications using 4 plants in each. The analysis of variance and the means were compared using the Tukey’s test at 5% probability. The results revealed that the CBAF2334 fruits presented with greener pigments and greater flavonoids. The fruits were characterized by their green color with some yellowish nuances and a low color saturation in both the progenies. The conduction system was not found to affect the physical and physicochemical characteristics as well as the anthocyanin and polyphenol contents of the studied species. The fruits of plants cultivated on vertical trellis presented with 56.73% more flavonoid content than those cultivated on horizontal trellis.

Resumo As flores do maracujazeiro-azedo normalmente apresentam três carpelos, porém há indivíduos com maior quantidade de carpelos em suas estruturas reprodutivas e pouco se sabe da influência dessa característica na cultura. Plantas de maracujazeiro-azedo (Passiflora edulis Sims, cultivar BRS Sol do Cerrado), que apresentam flores com três, quatro e cinco carpelos, foram avaliadas quanto: à eficiência de polinização manual e natural; à frequência dos diferentes tipos de flores no pomar; à inclinação dos estiletes. As frequências de flores com três, quatro e cinco carpelos também foram avaliadas nos genitores da referida cultivar. Não foram observadas diferenças estatísticas significativas na eficiência de polinização entre os diferentes tipos de flores, as quais apresentaram médias acima de 90%, destacando-se a média de 100% das flores com cinco carpelos. As flores com três carpelos são predominantes na cultivar estudada, representando 88,93%, porém flores com quatro e cinco carpelos não apresentaram estiletes sem inclinação, enquanto flores com três carpelos apresentaram taxa de 11,83%. Apenas o genitor masculino da cultivar destaca-se quanto à taxa de flores com quatro e cinco carpelos, sendo de 37,33% e 7,33%, respectivamente. Assim, flores com quatro e cinco carpelos representam importantes características para o melhoramento genético do maracujazeiro.

Abstract Passion fruit flowers usually have three carpels, but there are individuals with greater amount of carpels in their reproductive structures and little is known about the influence of this characteristic on this crop. Sour passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims, ‘BRS Sol do Cerrado’ cultivar) plants presenting flowers with three, four and five carpels were evaluated regarding the following characteristics: manual and natural pollination efficiency; frequency of different types of flowers in the orchard; and inclination of styles. Frequencies of flowers with three, four and five carpels were also evaluated in ‘BRS Sol do Cerrado’ genitors. There were no statistically significant differences in pollination efficiency among the different types of flowers, which presented averages above 90%, especially flowers with five carpels, with 100% efficiency. Flowers with three carpels are predominant in ‘BRS Sol do Cerrado’ cultivar, representing 88.93%, but flowers with four and five carpels did not show styles without inclination, whereas flowers with three carpels presented rate of 11.83%. Only the male genitor stands out for the rate of flowers with four and five carpels, being 37.33% and 7.33%, respectively. Thus, flowers with four and five carpels represent important characteristics for passion fruit breeding programs.
