Abstract The objective was to evaluate gas exchange and the leaf area requirement for yield in Cavendish and Gros Michel bananas. The cultivars Grande Naine, Calipso, Bucaneiro, FHIA-17 and FHIA-23, and two production cycles, were arranged in a completely randomized experimental design, in a factorial scheme, with five replicates. For the physiological characteristics, a 5x9x2 factorial arrangement was considered, with cultivars, evaluation periods and reading times. Cultivars Bucaneiro and Calipso require larger leaf area per unit produced and FHIA-23, smaller, which suggests a greater photosynthetic efficiency per leaf unit for FHIA-23, confirmed by the higher masses of bunches and hands and greater numbers of hands and fruits. Gas exchange varies with cultivars, evaluation periods and reading times. Cultivars FHIA-17 and Calipso, Gros Michel type, respectively showed higher photosynthesis and transpiration rates than Grande Naine, Cavendish type. Net photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, quantum efficiency of photosynthesis, instantaneous water use efficiency and carboxylation efficiency are higher at 8:00 h than at 14:00 h. The month of June allowed the cultivars to express the highest values of photosynthesis rates, incident radiation on leaves, carboxylation efficiency and stomatal conductance.

Resumo Objetivou-se avaliar trocas gasosas e requerimento em área foliar para rendimento de bananeiras Cavendish e Gros Michel. As cultivares, Grande Naine, Calipso, Bucaneiro, FHIA-17 e FHIA-23, e dois ciclos de produção foram dispostos em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial, com cinco repetições. Para características fisiológicas, considerou-se arranjo fatorial 5 x 9 x 2, com cinco cultivares, nove períodos de avaliação e dois horários de leituras. As cultivares Bucaneiro e Calipso requerem maior área foliar por unidade produzida, e a FHIA-23, menor, o que sugere maior eficiência fotossintética por unidade de folha para esta, comprovada pelas maiores massas de cachos e de pencas, e maiores quantidades de pencas e frutos. As trocas gasosas variam com as cultivares, épocas de avaliação e horários de leitura. As cultivares FHIA-17 e Calipso, tipo Gros Michel, expressaram, respectivamente, maiores taxa de fotossíntese e de transpiração, que a Grande Naine, tipo Cavendish. A fotossíntese líquida, condutância estomática, e as eficiências quântica da fotossíntese, instantânea de uso da água e de carboxilação são maiores às 8 horas comparada às 14 horas. O mês de junho possibilitou às cultivares expressarem os maiores valores de taxas de fotossíntese, radiação incidente nas folhas, eficiência de carboxilação e condutância estomática.

ABSTRACT. Among the forage species, especially in semiarid ecosystems, cactus pear is exceptional because of its high tolerance to adverse conditions and high productivity. Due to this alone, several studies have been conducted to identify the main technologies for this crop. Despite being consolidated and integrated, the cactus pear production system has limited accessibility, technical assistance, and availability of information for those dedicated to its production. This study aimed to present a digital platform, website, and applications to provide technical information on the cactus pear and demonstrate the efficiency of these applications through experimental data. On this digital platform, applications were made available for predicting the productivity of cactus pear using artificial neural networks (ANN) on a computer with routines in the R software and by simple linear regression (SLR) on smartphones on the Android system of the MIT App Inventor 2 platform. In addition, using the smartphone app, it is possible to obtain the cladode area through multiple linear regression (MLR). It is also possible to obtain the estimates of the experimental plot sizes by the maximum modified curvature, linear and quadratic methods with plateau response, relative information, comparison of variances, and convenient plot size. The platform provides technical information associated with the cactus pear crop from different sources (dissertations, theses, articles) and formats (video classes and teaching resources), offline for applications, and online with download for publications, dissertations, theses and articles, video classes, and several didactic resources. The biomathematical models integrated with the applications were highly precise in predicting the phenomena, in which the variation explained by the models in the prediction of responses for future observations had R² values of 0.95, 0.72, and 0.92, respectively, for productivity with computer-ANN and smartphone-SLR, and for the cladode area with a smartphone - MLR.

RESUMO Em regiões semiáridas com maior variabilidade climática, mais eventos de seca e retardo das estações chuvosas, a suplementação hídrica favorece a segurança produtiva do cultivo da palma forrageira. Objetivou-se avaliar a distribuição radicular, o teor e a exportação de nutrientes em palma forrageira ‘Gigante’ submetida a diferentes condições de aplicação de água. Os tratamentos foram constituídos por sete condições: sem irrigação; cinco litros de água por metro linear a cada 15 dias, com água de condutividade elétrica (CEa) de 0,75 dS m−1; 7% da evapotranspiração de referência (ETo) com turno de rega (TR) de 15 dias; 15% da ETo com TR de sete dias; 33% da ETo com TR de três dias; 50% da ETo com TR de dois dias e 100% da ETo irrigado diariamente, sendo as cinco últimas condições com água de CEa de 3,6 dS m−1, dispostos em delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. O maior desenvolvimento de raízes é obtido na condição de 50% da ETo com TR de dois dias. Aplicação de água com salinidade muito alta, CE 3,6 dS m−1, a 15% da ETo com TR de sete dias proporciona maiores teores dos nutrientes P, Ca, Mg e S nos cladódios de palma. Aplicação de água com salinidade muito alta, CE 3,6 dS m−1, a 33% da ETo com turno de rega de três dias proporciona maiores valores de extração/exportação de P, Ca, Mg, S e Zn nos cladódios de palma forrageira ‘Gigante’.

ABSTRACT In semiarid regions with greater climatic variability, including prolonged droughts and delayed rainy seasons, supplemental irrigation is critical to ensuring yields of forage cactus pear. The objective was to evaluate root distribution and nutrient concentration and accumulation in ‘Gigante’ forage cactus pear subjected to different irrigation regimes. Seven irrigation regimes were tested: no irrigation (rainfed); five liters of medium-salinity water, with an electrical conductivity (EC) of 0.75 dS m−1, applied per linear meter every 15 days; 7% reference evapotranspiration (ETo) with a 15-d irrigation interval (II); 15% ETo with a 7-d II; 33% ETo with a 3-d II; 50% ETo with a 2-d II; and 100% ETo, irrigated daily - high-salinity water, EC of 3.6 dS m−1, was used in the last five treatments. The treatments were laid out in a randomized block design with four replicates. Roots developed best in plants irrigated at 50% ETo with a 7-d II. Applying high-salinity water at 15% ETo with a 7-d irrigation interval promotes higher concentrations of P, Ca, Mg and S in cladodes of cactus pear. Applying high-salinity water at 33% ETo with a 3-d II promotes higher uptake/accumulation of P, Ca, Mg, S and Zn in cladodes of ‘Gigante’ forage cactus pear.

Resumo O objetivo desste trabalho foi estabelecer, por meio de diferentes métodos diagnósticos, valores de referência nutricional para bananeira ‘Prata-Anã’ em solo de fertilidade construída. O estudo contemplou um banco de dados de um experimento no delineamento em blocos casualizados, arranjado no esquema fatorial 5 × 6 (cinco doses de K2O - 0; 200; 400; 600 e 800 kg ha-1, supridas com esterco bovino e farinha de rocha × seis avaliações da nutrição foliar e produtividade - 210; 390; 570; 750; 930 e 1.110 dias após plantio), com três repetições, totalizando 90 amostras. Os valores de referência foram determinados pelos métodos da Faixa de suficiência, do Nível crítico pela distribuição normal reduzida, da Linha de fronteira, e pela Chance Matemática. Parcelas de alta produtividade, = 36,42 t ha-1 ciclo-1, formaram a população de referência e = 45,79 t ha-1 subpopulação de referência. Os métodos foram eficientes na determinação dos valores de referência nutricional da bananeira ‘Prata-Anã’. Os valores estabelecidos de forma geral são mais altos comparados à literatura, justificados pela maior fertilidade química do solo. Dentre os métodos diagnósticos, a Chance Matemática apresentou-se como o mais preciso para a interpretação dos teores de nutrientes nas folhas da bananeira ‘Prata-Anã’ em condições de fertilidade de solo construída.

Abstract The objective of this work was to establish, through different diagnostic methods, nutrient reference values for ‘Prata-Anã’ banana in improved fertility soil. The study included a database from an experiment conducted in randomized block design, arranged in a 5 × 6 factorial scheme (five doses of K2O - 0; 200; 400; 600 and 800 kg ha-1, supplied by cattle manure and rock powder × six evaluations of leaf nutrition and yield – 210; 390; 570; 750; 930 and 1,110 days after planting), with three replicates, totaling 90 samples. The reference values were determined by the Sufficiency Range, Critical Level by the Reduced Normal Distribution, Boundary Line and Mathematical Chance methods. Plots with high yield, = 36.42 t ha-1 cycle-1, formed the reference population and plots with yield = 45.79 t ha-1 formed the reference subpopulation. The methods were efficient in determining the nutrient reference values of ‘Prata-Anã’ banana. In general, the values established are higher than those reported in the literature, justified by the greater chemical fertility of the soil. Among the diagnostic methods, the Mathematical Chance presented itself as the most accurate for interpreting the nutrient contents in the leaves of ‘Prata-Anã’ banana under improved soil fertility conditions.

RESUMO Valores de referência dos teores foliares são essenciais para avaliação nutricional das plantas. Objetivou-se estabelecer valores de referência nutricional para a bananeira ‘BRS Platina’ em solo de fertilidade construída, mediante a utilização dos métodos faixa de suficiência (SR), linha de fronteira (BL) e chance matemática (MCh), além do nível crítico obtido pela distribuição normal reduzida (CLz). O estudo foi realizado em Guanambi-BA, considerando teores de nutrientes e produtividades de experimento arranjado em blocos casualizados, esquema fatorial 5 x 6, cinco doses de K2O (0, 200, 400, 600 e 800 kg ha-1) supridas com fertilizantes para manejo orgânico e seis épocas de amostragem (210; 390; 570; 750; 930 e 1.110 dias após plantio), totalizando 90 parcelas. Parcelas de alta produtividade, ≥ 38,40 t ha-1 formaram a população de referência e ≥ 47,43 t ha-1 subpopulação de referência. Houve convergência entre os valores ótimos obtidos pelos métodos avaliados. Portanto, os valores de referência ajustados pelos métodos SR, BL, MCh e CLz podem ser usados com assertividade para interpretação da análise foliar da bananeira ‘BRS Platina’ em solos de fertilidade construída. Ademais, dentre esses, a MCh se destaca pois proporciona faixas ótimas mais estreitas.

ABSTRACT Reference values of leaf nutrient contents are essential for nutritional assessment of plants. The objective was to establish nutritional reference values for ‘BRS Platina’ banana in improved fertility soil, using the sufficiency range (SR), border Line (BL) and mathematical chance (MCh) methods, in addition to the critical level obtained by the reduced normal distribution (CLz). The study was carried out in Guanambi-BA, considering nutrient contents and yields of an experiment arranged in randomized blocks, 5 x 6 factorial scheme, with five doses of K2O (0, 200, 400, 600 and 800 kg ha-1) supplied with fertilizers for organic management and six sampling times (210; 390; 570; 750; 930 and 1,110 days after planting), totaling 90 plots. Plots with high yield, ≥ 38.40 t ha-1, formed the reference population and plots with yield ≥ 47.43 t ha-1 formed the reference subpopulation. There was convergence between the optimal values obtained by the methods evaluated. Therefore, the reference values adjusted by the SR, BL, MCh and CLz methods can be used with assertiveness to interpret the foliar analysis of the ‘BRS Platina’ banana in improved fertility soils. Furthermore, among these, MCh stands out as it provides narrower optimal ranges.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a resposta fotossintética ao deficit de pressão de vapor (DPV) em acessos de umbuzeiro (Spondias tuberosa). O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, em arranjo fatorial 5×7×2 (cinco acessos de umbuzeiro – BRS-68, EPAMIG-05, BGU-61, BGU-75 e BGU-50 –, sete épocas de avaliação e dois momentos de leitura – às 8h e às 14h), em parcelas subsubdivididas no tempo. A temperatura foliar aumentou com a temperatura do ar. A variação da condutância estomática e da transpiração com o DPV não foi significativa. A fotossíntese líquida, a eficiência de carboxilação e a eficiência instantânea do uso da água decresceram com o aumento do DPV em todos os acessos, exceto no BRS-68, cujas taxas se mantiveram positivas.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the photosynthetic response to vapor pressure deficit (VPD) in umbu (Spondias tuberosa) tree accessions. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design in a 5×7×2 factorial arrangement (five umbu accessions – BRS-68, EPAMIG-05, BGU-61, BGU-75, and BGU-50 –, seven evaluation times, and two reading times – at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.) in split-split plots in time. Leaf temperature increased with air temperature. The variation of stomatal conductance and transpiration with the VPD was not significant. Net photosynthesis rate, carboxylation efficiency, and instantaneous water-use efficiency decreased with increasing VPD in all accessions, except in BRS-68, whose rates remained positive.

RESUMO A obtenção de um alto rendimento de banana requer que os nutrientes estejam em quantidades e proporções adequadas na planta. Portanto, a utilização de métodos que englobem o balanço e equilíbrio nutricional é necessária para uma boa avaliação nutricional. O objetivo deste trabalho foi modelar e determinar as limitações nutricionais e não nutricionais de bananeiras 'Prata -Anã' cultivadas nos estados do Ceará (CE) e Bahia (BA), Brasil, com base no balanço e equilíbrio nutricional. O estudo foi desenvolvido utilizando o banco de dados de teores de nutrientes nas folhas e produção de banana de duas fazendas da empresa Sítio Barreiras, em Missão Velha (CE) e Ponto Novo (BA), Brasil. As parcelas com produtividade de banana acima da média mais 0,5 desvio padrão foram definidas como população de referência; e parcelas com produtividade de banana abaixo desse limite foram definidas como áreas de baixa produtividade e utilizadas para diagnóstico nutricional. O banco de dados foi dividido em quatro: o primeiro com 253 amostras da população com produtividade de banana acima de 39,81 Mg ha-1 ano-1; a segunda com 553 amostras e população de baixo rendimento (Ceará); a terceira com 147 amostras da população com produtividade de banana acima de 41,69 Mg ha-1 ano-1; e a quarta com 334 amostras e população de baixo rendimento (Bahia). A limitação de produtividade da banana 'Prata-Anã' por causas nutricionais atingiu 13,37% no Ceará, e 12,17% na Bahia. Fatores não nutricionais, como clima e fatores bióticos, limitaram a produtividade da banana em até 28,23% no Ceará, e 50,49% na Bahia.

ABSTRACT The obtaining of a high banana yield requires that nutrients are in adequate quantities and proportions in the plant. Therefore, the use of methods that encompass nutritional balance and equilibrium is required for a good nutritional evaluation. The objective of this work was to model and determine nutritional and non-nutritional limitations of 'Prata-Anã' banana grown in the states of Ceará (CE) and Bahia (BA), Brazil, based on nutritional balance and equilibrium. The study was developed using the databank of leaf nutrient contents and banana yields of two farms of the Sítio Barreiras company, in Missão Velha (CE) and Ponto Novo (BA), Brazil. The parcels with banana yield above the average plus 0.5 standard deviation; and parcels with banana yield below of that limit were defined as low-yield areas and were used for nutritional diagnosis. The databank was divided into four: the first with 253 samples and a reference population with banana yield above 39.81 Mg ha-1 year-1; the second with 553 samples and a low-yield population (Ceará); the third with 147 samples and a reference population with banana yield above 41.69 Mg ha-1 year-1; and the fourth with 334 samples and a low-yield population (Bahia). Yield limitations in the 'Prata-Anã' banana crops due to nutritional causes reached 13.37% in Ceará, and 12.17% in Bahia. Non-nutritional factors, such as climate and biotic factors, limited the banana crop yields by up to 28.23% in Ceará, and 50.49% in Bahia.

ABSTRACT: Proper plant nutrition is critical to increasing the yield of bananas. The objective was to establish the potential nutrient-response curves and sufficiency ranges using the boundary line approach (BLA) and the method proposed by Kenworthy (MK) to assess the nutritional status of ‘Prata-Anã’ bananas cultivated under two environmental conditions. The study was carried out using a database comprising leaf nutrient concentrations and banana yields grown at Missão Velha, Ceará, and Ponto Novo, Bahia, Brazil. The reference population consisted of high-yielding plants with yields greater than the mean yield plus 0.5 standard deviation. The database was divided into two datasets. One contained 253 leaf analysis results and a reference population with a mean yield greater than 39.81 t ha−1 yr−1 at Missão Velha. The other contained 147 samples and a reference population with a mean yield greater than 41.69 t ha−1 yr−1 at Ponto Novo. The sufficiency ranges obtained by the BLA for ‘Prata-Anã’ banana in Bahia and Ceará, respectively, are: a) for macronutrients (g kg−1): N (19.3-22.0) and (19.9-22.1); P (1.4-2.0) and (1.4-1.6); K (22.6-32.2) and (24.0-31.3); Ca (4.6-6.5) and (5.3-5.8); Mg (1.8-2.6) and (2.1-2.7); S (1.3-2.0) and (1.3-1.5); b) for micronutrients (mg kg−1): B (8.4-13.0) and (13.7-16.4); Cu (5.6-8.4) and (4.4-5.2); Fe (54.2-77.6) and (39.0-55.0); Mn (140.1-222.8) and (64.0-91.0); Zn (13.5-18.3) and (12.4-14.5). The sufficiency ranges obtained by the BLA are more assertive when assessing the nutritional status for ‘Prata-Anã’ banana.

Resumo A nutrição adequada das plantas é essencial para obter maiores rendimentos. O objetivo foi determinar curvas de resposta potencial de nutrientes e intervalos de suficiência utilizando a abordagem da linha de fronteira e índices de equilíbrio de Kenworthy para interpretar o estado nutricional da bananeira ‘Grande-Naine’ cultivada em dois ambientes. O estudo foi realizado em um banco de dados contendo as concentrações foliares de nutrientes e as produtividades da bananeiras cultivadas em duas áreas de produção localizadas em Missão Velha-CE, e Ponto Novo-BA, Brasil. Parcelas com plantas de alto rendimento, correspondentes às produtividades acima da média +/- 0,5 desvio padrão, foram utilizadas como população de referência. O banco de dados foi subdividido em dois conjuntos. Um deles continha 46 amostras de tecido foliar e população de referência com produtividade superior a 58,84 Mg ha-1 ano-1, em Missão Velha-CE. O segundo conjunto de dados continha 19 amostras e população de referência com produtividade superior a 76,12 Mg ha-1 ano-1 em Ponto Novo-BA. As curvas de resposta potencial foram ajustadas entre o rendimento relativo com as concentrações de elementos na folha, e com os índices de equilíbrio de Kenworthy. Os modelos expressaram alto poder preditivo. Foram estabelecidas faixas de suficiência para concentrações de macro e micronutrientes, e índices de equilíbrio de Kenworthy. Os intervalos permitem uma avaliação eficiente do estado nutricional de bananeiras ‘Grande Naine’ irrigadas.

Abstract Adequate plant nutrition is essential to attain higher yields. The objective was to determine potential-nutrient response curves and sufficiency ranges using the boundary line approach and balance indices of Kenworthy for interpreting the nutritional status of ‘Grand Nain’ banana cultivated in two environments. The study was carried out using a database containing leaf nutrient concentrations and yields of bananas cultivated on two areas located in Missão Velha-CE, and Ponto Novo-BA, Brazil. Plots with high-yielding plants, which were those with yields above average plus 0.5 standard deviation, were used atem as reference population. The database was subdivided into two sets. One of them contained 46 leaf tissue samples and reference population with yield greater than 58.84 Mg ha-1 year-1, in Missão Velha-CE. The second data set contained 19 samples and reference population with yield greater than 76.12 Mg ha-1 year-1 in Ponto Novo-BA. Potential response curves were fitted to the relationship between relative yield and leaf element concentrations and balance indices of Kenworthy. Models expressed high predictive power. Sufficiency ranges for macro- and micronutrient concentrations and balance indices of Kenworthy were established. The ranges allow an improved nutritional status assessment of irrigated ‘Grand Nain’ bananas.

ABSTRACT Tissue analysis results are interpreted by comparing them with nutrient standards; however, using universal standards may lead to a misleading nutritional diagnosis. This study aimed to evaluate the degree of universality of Kenworthy and DRIS norms for irrigated ‘Prata-Anã’ (AAB) and ‘Grande Naine’ (AAA) banana plants grown in two environments. The study was carried out using a database containing leaf nutrient contents and yield data of two farms located in Ponto Novo, Bahia State, and Missão Velha, Ceará State, Brazil. A reference population was that with yields above the average yield plus 0.5 standard deviation. Using a reference population, the mean, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation of nutrient content and dual nutrient ratios were calculated for each site × cultivar combination. To verify the homogeneity of variance among populations, F-test was used (p≤0.05). Means were compared using t-test (p≤0.05). Differences in climate and soil at each farm explain the high frequency of significant differences found between norms for each site. Kenworthy norms established for interpreting leaf nutrient contents of P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn for ‘Prata-Anã’ grown in Ceará were higher than those in Bahia, while for N and B contents, the norms were higher in Bahia. This is due to differences in soil fertility and alkalinity affecting nutrient availability as well as non-nutritional factors. Kenworthy and DRIS norms for ‘Prata-Anã’ and ‘Grande Naine’ bananas grown in Ceará have higher variability and are greater than for those grown in Bahia. Norms are less convergent for ‘Prata-Anã’ than ‘Grande Naine’. Site- and cultivar-specific norms are recommended over universal ones for assessing the nutritional status of ‘Prata-Anã’ and ‘Grande Naine’ banana plants cultivated in different environments.

RESUMO O equilíbrio e o balanço nutricional das plantas são de extrema importância para avaliar seu potencial produtivo e para compreender a dinâmica dos nutrientes no sistema solo-planta. Assim, objetivou-se determinar valores de referência para diagnose nutricional de palma forrageira ‘Gigante’ cultivada com adubação orgânica em condições semiáridas pelos métodos Sistema Integrado de Diagnose e Recomendação (DRIS) e Índices Balanceados de Kenworthy (IBK). Utilizaram-se teores de nutrientes dos cladódios e produtividades de matéria seca de 72 parcelas. O banco de dados foi separado em população de alta e de baixa produtividade, acima e abaixo de 19,93 Mg ha-1 ciclo-1, respectivamente. As cinco faixas dos teores de nutrientes nos cladódios foram definidas de acordo com a(s) faixa(s) de desvio padrão dos índices DRIS da subpopulação de alta produtividade. Por sua vez, com valores fixos do IBK, foi possível determinar o limite inferior e o limite superior dos valores de referência dos teores de nutrientes nos cladódios. Os valores de referência gerados para todos os nutrientes pelos métodos DRIS e IBK diferem entre si e da literatura. Esses métodos são eficientes na identificação dos nutrientes limitantes para palma forrageira ‘Gigante’, havendo diferenças na ordem hierárquica da limitação, por falta ou por excesso, e dos nutrientes não limitantes à produtividade.

ABSTRACT The equilibrium and nutritional balance of plants are known to be of utmost importance to evaluate their yield potential and to comprehend the dynamics of nutrients in the soil-plant system. Hence, the present study determined the reference values for evaluating the nutritional status of ‘Gigante’ cactus pear cultivated with organic fertilization in semiarid conditions by Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS) and Balanced Indexes of Kenworthy (BIK) methods. The cladodes nutrients contents and dry matter yield of 72 plots were employed. The database was classified into a high-yield and low-yield population, above and below 19.93 Mg ha-1 cycle-1, respectively. The five ranges of nutrient contents in cladodes were defined based on the standard deviation range(s) of the DRIS indexes of the high-yield population. Furthermore, the fixed BIK values made it possible to ascertain the lower and the upper limit of the reference values of nutrient contents in the cladodes. The reference values for all nutrients determined by the DRIS and BIK methods varied from each other and those reported in the literature. These methods were efficient in identifying the limiting nutrients for ‘Gigante’ cactus pear, with differences in the hierarchical order of limitation, due to lack or excess, and nutrients not limiting to productivity.

RESUMO Modelos de predição podem contribuir para a análise de dados e tomada de decisões no manejo de uma cultura. Objetivou-se avaliar a viabilidade da predição de produtividade de bananeiras ‘Prata-Anã’ e ‘BRS Platina’, por meio de redes neurais artificiais, bem como determinar os descritores morfológicos mais importantes para este fim. Foram mensurados a altura de planta; perímetro do pseudocaule ao nível do solo, a 30 e 100 cm de altura; número de folhas vivas na colheita; massa, comprimento e diâmetro do engaço; número de pencas e de frutos; massa do cacho e das pencas; massa média das pencas; e relação entre a massa do engaço e do cacho. Os dados foram submetidos a análise por redes neurais artificiais, utilizando-se o software R. Os melhores ajustes foram obtidos com dois e três neurônios na camada intermediária, respectivamente, para ‘Prata-Anã’ e ‘BRS Platina’. Esses modelos apresentaram os menores erros quadráticos médios, o que corresponde a maior proximidade entre os dados preditos e os reais, e, por conseguinte, maior eficiência das redes na predição da produtividade. Pelo coeficiente de determinação, verificaram-se os melhores ajustes para ‘Prata-Anã’ (R2 = 0,99 para todas as composições de rede), enquanto, para ‘BRS Platina’, a adequação dos dados possibilitou R² com valores entre 0,97 e 1,00, aproximadamente. Previsões de produtividade para ‘Prata-Anã’ e ‘BRS Platina’ foram obtidas com alta eficiência por meio de redes neurais artificiais.

ABSTRACT Prediction models may contribute to data analysis and decision-making in the management of a crop. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of predicting the yield of ‘Prata-Anã’ and ‘BRS Platina’ banana plants by means of artificial neural networks, as well as to determine the most important morphological descriptors for this purpose. The following characteristics were measured: plant height; perimeter of the pseudostem at the ground level, at 30 cm and 100 cm; number of live leaves at harvest; stalk mass, length and diameter; number of hands and fruits; bunches and hands masses; hands average mass; and ratio between the stalk and bunch masses. The data were submitted to artificial neural networks analysis using the R software. The best adjustments were obtained with two and three neurons at the intermediate layer, respectively for ‘Prata-Anã’ and ‘BRS Platina’. These models presented the lowest mean square errors, which correspond to the higher proximity between the predicted and the real data, and, therefore, a higher efficiency of the networks in the yield prediction. By the coefficient of determination, the best adjustments were found for ‘Prata-Anã’ (R² = 0.99 for all the network compositions), while, for ‘BRS Platina’, the data adjustment enabled an R² with values between 0.97 and 1.00, approximately. Yield predictions for ‘Prata-Anã’ and ‘BRS Platina’ were obtained with high efficiency by using artificial neural networks.

RESUMO A capacidade de adaptação da palma forrageira às condições edafoclimáticas, associada às suas respostas às alterações no sistema de manejo, contribuem para o maior aproveitamento do seu potencial produtivo e uso na agropecuária do semiárido. Objetivou-se neste trabalho avaliar as características estruturais da planta e os rendimentos da palma forrageira (Opuntia ficus-indica Mill) em diferentes agroecossistemas do semiárido baiano. Para isso, foram analisadas as características estruturais das plantas e os atributos dos solos. Considerou-se o conhecimento tradicional no manejo da cultura e suas inter-relações com os níveis de rendimento, de modo a identificar os melhores índices de produtividade frente às peculiaridades de cada agroecossistema. A altura das plantas, a espessura e número de cladódios da palma forrageira ‘Gigante’ foram menos afetados pelos agroecossistemas, em detrimento à maior influência dos sistemas de produção. A largura, comprimento e área dos cladódios foram influenciados, em maior proporção, pelos agroecossistemas. Os rendimentos dos palmais, expressos pelas produtividades anual e de massa verde, correlacionou -se positivamente com as características estruturais da planta, como a sua altura e espessura, largura e comprimento dos cladódios. A produtividade de massa de cladódio por planta e a produtividade de massa verde por área foram os rendimentos mais influenciados pelo sistema de manejo adotado pelos produtores tradicionais.

ABSTRACT The adaptation capacity of forage cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica Mill) plants to edaphoclimatic conditions and plant responses to changes in management systems contribute to increase the use of this species in agriculture and the exploration of its productive potential in semi-arid regions. The objective of this work was to evaluate the structural characteristics and cladode yield of forage cactus plants grown under different agroecosystems in the semi-arid region of Bahia, Brazil. Structural characteristics of plants and soils attributes were analyzed. The traditional information on the crop management and its correlations with cladode yield were used to identify the best yield indexes, considering the peculiarities of each agroecosystem. Plant height, cladode thickness, and number of cladodes of the forage cactus plants evaluated were less affected by the agroecosystem than by the production systems. Cladode width, length, and area were more affected by the agroecosystems. The forage cactus crop yields, expressed by the annual cladode fresh matter yield, were positively correlated with the plant structural characteristics: plant height and thickness, and cladode width and length. The cladode weight per plant and fresh matter yield per area were the yield components most affected by the management system adopted by traditional producers.

RESUMO O umbuzeiro e umbu-cajazeira demandam informações sobre as características de acessos potenciais para implantação comercial e preservação. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar o teor foliar e ciclagem dos nutrientes de 15 acessos de umbuzeiro e um de umbucajazeira. Os tratamentos constaram de 16 acessos: BGU -44, BGU-45, BGU-47, BGU-48, BGU-50, BGU-75, EPAMIG-01, EPAMIG-03, EPAMIG-04, EPAMIG-05, EPAMIG-06, EPAMIG-07, EPAMIG-09, EPAMIG-13, umbuzeiro de origem desconhecida e umbu-cajazeira Princesa. Adotou-se o delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, com três repetições, constituídas de uma planta cada. Foram mensurados os teores de nutrientes nas folhas, nas fases de emissão de fluxo foliar e senescência das folhas, nas safras de 2015/2016 e 2016/2017, e determinou-se a taxa de retranslocação de N, P, K e Mg. Verificou-se que os acessos denotaram teores médios de nutrientes na folha de 28,6; 27,6; 9,5; 4,20; 2,5 e 2,0 g kg-1 com ordem decrescente N>Ca>K>Mg>S>P, respectivamente, e 103,61; 86,22; 82,12; 60,2; 16,0 e 3,52 mg kg-1 de Fe>B>Na>Mn>Zn>Cu, respectivamente. O acesso BGU-48 revelou maior eficiência de retranslocação de N e P nas folhas e o BGU-50 expressou eficiência de reciclagem para K e Mg. A ordem das taxas de retranslocação é K>P>N>Mg sendo maior na safra 2015/2016.

ABSTRACT Information is needed on the characteristics of potential accessions of Spondias tuberosa Arruda Câmara (umbu) and Spondias sp.(umbu-caja) for commercial planting and preservation. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the leaf contents and cycling of nutrients of 15 accessions of umbu and one of umbu -caja. The treatments consisted of 16 accessions: BGU-44, BGU-45, BGU-47, BGU-48, BGU-50, BGU-75, EPAMIG-01, EPAMIG-03, EPAMIG-04, EPAMIG-05, EPAMIG-06, EPAMIG-07, EPAMIG-09, EPAMIG-13, umbu of unknown origin and the umbu-caja Princesa. A completely randomized experimental design was adopted, with three replicates, consisting of one plant each. Nutrient contents in the leaves were measured in the leaf flushing and leaf senescence phases in the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 seasons, and the N, P, K and Mg retranslocation rates were determined. The accessions showed average leaf nutrient contents of 28.6, 27.6, 9.5, 4.20, 2.5 and 2.0 g kg-1 with the descending order N>Ca>K>Mg>S>P, respectively, and 103.61, 86.22, 82.12, 60.2, 16.0 and 3.52 mg kg-1 of Fe>B>Na>Mn>Zn>Cu, respectively. The accession BGU-48 had higher N and P retranslocation efficiency in the leaves and BGU-50 showed recycling efficiency for K and Mg. The order of retranslocation rates is K>P>N>Mg, being higher in the 2015/2016 season.

Resumo São escassos estudos que determinem as características fisiológicas do abacaxizeiro, em condições de campo, irrigadas com água de qualidade inferior. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar eficiência fotoquímica em abacaxizeiro ‘Pérola’ irrigado com água salina no semiárido baiano. O experimento foi conduzido em blocos casualizados com cinco tratamentos representados pelas lâminas de irrigação: 100% da ETc com água de condutividade elétrica (CEa) de 0,75 dS m-1 e 50, 75, 100 e 125% da ETc com aplicação de água de CEa de 3,6 dS m-1. As leituras da fluorescência da clorofila “a” foram realizadas durante 13 meses através de fluorômetro de luz modulada, em todos os tratamentos. Verificou-se que a eficiência quântica (Fv/Fm) variou ao longo do ciclo do abacaxizeiro com valores abaixo do ideal, principalmente, no final do ciclo. As variáveis rendimento quântico do fotossistema II (Yield), dissipação fotoquímica (qP), dissipação não-fotoquímica (NPQ) e taxa de redução de fluorescência (RFd) não foram influenciadas pelas lâminas de irrigação avaliadas. Portanto, a utilização da energia nos processos fotossintéticos de plantas de abacaxizeiro não são influenciados pela irrigação com lâminas de água salina com condutividade elétrica de 3,6 dS m-1.

Abstract Studies determining physiological characteristics of field-grown pineapples irrigated with low-quality water are lacking. This work evaluated the photochemical efficiency of ‘Pérola’ pineapple irrigated with saline water in the semiarid region of Bahia, Brazil. The experiment was carried out in randomized blocks with five treatments consisting of the following irrigation depths: 100% of ETc using water with electrical conductivity (ECw) of 0.75 dS m-1; and 50, 75, 100 and 125% of ETc using water with ECw of 3.6 dS m-1. Chlorophyll a fluorescence measurements were made over the course of 13 months using a pulse-modulated fluorometer, in all treatments. Quantum efficiency (Fv/Fm) fluctuated throughout the cycle of the pineapple with values below the ideal, especially at the end of the crop cycle. Quantum yield of photosystem II (Yield), photochemical quenching (qP), non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) and chlorophyll fluorescence decrease ratio (RFd) were not influenced by irrigation depths. Therefore, energy used for photosynthetic processes in pineapple plants is not affected by irrigation using saline water with electrical conductivity of 3.6 dS m-1.
