Abstract This paper presents a reliability analysis of the punching shear of flat slabs without shear reinforcement. The evaluation is performed for the codes ACI 318, Eurocode 2, Model Code 2010, and ABNT NBR 6118:2014. Six models were used for predicting the punching strength, the design models, the Critical Shear Crack Theory (CSCT), and a Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis (NLFEA) model. Reliability analysis was performed to evaluate the safety level of code provisions. Design code provisions were evaluated in terms of sufficient reliability criteria based on target reliability β=3.8. This target reliability was based in the Model Code 2010 criteria. This criterion represents an acceptable value level of safety in design of structures. The results showed that the reliability indexes β presented satisfactory for all slabs designed by the Model Code 2010. However, this paper also shows some of the tested slabs presented reliability index below 3.0, being the ACI 318 the code with the lowest reliability index.

Resumo Este artigo apresenta a análise de confiabilidade do dimensionamento à punção de lajes lisas sem armadura de cisalhamento. A pesquisa avaliou a confiabilidade obtida pela norma ACI 318, Eurocode 2, Código Modelo 2010 e pela norma brasileira ABNT NBR 6118:2014. Para a estimativa da resistência à punção seis modelos foram estudados, os modelos das normas, a Teoria da Fissura Crítica de Cisalhamento (TFCC) e um modelo não-linear em elementos finitos. A avaliação da confiabilidade foi realizada para avaliar o nível de segurança das prescrições normativas. Para isso, o critério utilizado é baseado na comparação dos índices de confiabilidade β com o índice de confiabilidade alvo, estipulado em 3,8, conforme critério do Código Modelo 2010. Esse critério representa um valor aceitável no nível de segurança do dimensionamento da estrutura. Os resultados obtidos a partir dessa metodologia mostrou que o Código Modelo 2010 é a norma que apresenta os índices mais elevados de confiabilidade. Por outro lado, a norma ACI 318 apresentou os menores índices de confiabilidade, alcançando índices de confiabilidade menores que 3,0.

Abstract The rehabilitation and strengthening of concrete structures using carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) has become an interesting alternative for a series of important aspects. This material has a low specific weight, high tensile strength, corrosion and fatigue resistance, a high modulus of elasticity, and is a versatile material, with ease and speed in its application. Nevertheless, its consideration and design tend to require more sophisticated analyses to evaluate and predict the behavior of the strengthened structural element. For this reason, numerical methods, such as the Finite Element Method (FEM), can be used in such complex analyses to simulate to a high degree the actual performance of the structure. Thus, this work presents computer simulations of reinforced concrete beams shear strengthened with CFRP through the Finite Element Method in a customized ANSYS model. Special attention is given to the bond behavior between the CFRP sheets and the concrete surface of the beams through contact elements and bilinear cohesive zone models, which allowed for the identification of the debonding failure modes. Twenty-one reinforced concrete beams reported in the literature were simulated: twelve simply supported and nine continuous, with and without CFRP shear strengthening. The beams showed failure modes in shear, bending, concrete splitting, and debonding of the strengthening CFRP sheets. The numerical model developed predicted with good accuracy the beams' behavior in terms of load vs. displacement, load vs. strain, as well as their ultimate loads and failure modes.

Resumo A crescente necessidade de reabilitar e reforçar estruturas de concreto armado, assim como os problemas apresentados por técnicas de reforço tradicionais, tornou a utilização de polímeros reforçados com fibras de carbono (PRFC) uma alternativa interessante, uma vez que este material apresenta propriedades como baixo peso específico, elevada resistência à tração, à corrosão e à fadiga, alto módulo de elasticidade, assim como versatilidade, facilidade e rapidez de execução. A fim de avaliar e prever o comportamento do PRFC, é necessário realizar uma análise mais aprofundada dos elementos estruturais reforçados com esse material. Para isso, utilizam-se métodos numéricos, como é o caso do método de elementos finitos (MEF), que permite analisar estruturas complexas, bem como realizar análises não lineares de estruturas de concreto armado. Diante disso, o objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar uma modelagem computacional de vigas de concreto armado, reforçadas ao cisalhamento com PRFC, através do método dos elementos finitos com o emprego do software ANSYS customizado. Especial atenção foi dada ao comportamento da aderência entre o reforço e a viga de concreto, através da utilização de elementos de contato e de modelos de zona coesiva bilineares, possibilitando identificar, durante as simulações computacionais, falhas por perda de aderência do sistema de reforço. Neste estudo foram testadas vinte e uma vigas de concreto armado reportadas na literatura, doze biapoiadas e nove contínuas, com e sem reforço ao esforço cortante com PRFC. Estas vigas apresentaram modos de ruptura por cisalhamento, por flexão, por fendilhamento do concreto, assim como pelo descolamento da camada de reforço. Constatou-se que os modelos numéricos desenvolvidos foram capazes de prever com boa precisão o comportamento das vigas simuladas, tanto em termos de carga-deslocamento e carga-deformação, como a carga e o modo de ruptura.

Abstract The response of a reinforced concrete structure is influenced by the variability of design parameters such as materials strengths, geometry, and load intensity. One of the most rational ways to assess the safety level of a reinforced concrete structure is to employ a probabilistic approach. This paper aims to compare the reliability indexes for a set of reinforced concrete beams according to two different methodologies, based on the association of First Order Reliability Method (FORM) with the ANSYS software. In the first methodology, the reliability indexes were assessed through the direct coupling of the FORM to the Finite Element model. In the second methodology, a response surface was employed to fit a flexural resistance function, based on the FE results, being the reliability indexes assessed by an external FORM algorithm. The results showed that both methodologies led to equivalent reliability indexes and that the safety level of the beams, which were designed according to the Brazilian code NBR 6118:2014, is mainly influenced by the load combination, presenting unsatisfactory values when the live load increases.

resumo: O estudo de túneis superficiais apresenta peculiaridades se comparado à análise de túneis profundos. Dentre estes aspectos, pode-se enfatizar o formato não uniforme da seção deformada e a impossibilidade de adotar algumas simplificações, como a consideração de tensões uniformes ao redor da escavação. Uma vez que o revestimento do túnel está sujeito à flexo-compressão, túneis superficiais são mais suscetíveis ao desenvolvimento de tensões finais de tração (não encontradas em túneis profundos) e a consequente fissuração do concreto. Este artigo apresenta uma simulação numérica pelo método dos elementos finitos, realizada com o software ANSYS. O estudo tem o objetivo de analisar a influência da fissuração nos deslocamentos de túneis superficiais, ao tratar o comportamento do concreto por meio de três diferentes modelos: elástico, viscoelástico e viscoelástico com fissuração.

abstract: The study of shallow tunnels introduces different aspects when compared to deep tunnels analysis. Among these characteristics can be emphasized the non-uniform shape of the deformed cross-section and the impossibility of some simplifications such as the consideration of homogeneous stresses around the excavation. Since the tunnel lining is subject to combined bending and compression, shallow tunnels are more susceptible to the development of final tensile stresses (not founded in deep tunnels) and the consequent concrete cracking. This paper presents a numerical simulation in finite elements with the ANSYS software. The purpose of the study is to analyze the cracking influence in the displacements of shallow tunnels, treating the concrete behavior by three different models: elastic, viscoelastic and viscoelastic with cracking effects.

ABSTRACT An experimental study is presented to produce Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) including industrial waste in the mix, and determine the average compressive strength. The study includes factor arrangements to perform analysis of variance using ANOVA. The controllable factors were: (i) age of the sample; (ii) granulometry of the slag; (iii) mix designs; (iv) percentages of fibers and (iv) thermal treatment in curing. The highest resistance values obtained were 138.12, 132.17 and 155.29 MPa, with partial substitutions of cement by industrial waste of 35, 25 and 26% respectively. The mixing designs were manufactured using a simple procedure, using materials such as cement, silica fume, blast furnace slag, quartz powder and fine sand produced in Brazil. Also, the mixture includes the superplasticizer diluted in water and the fibers, which are incorporated when the mixture becomes a dense plastic mass. The results showed that all the controllable factors have significant influence on the response variable, and that the probability that the variations in resistance are attributed to the experimental error is less than 1 ‰.

RESUMEN Se presenta un estudio experimental para producir Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHFPRC) incluyendo residuos industriales en la mezcla y determinar la resistencia a la compresión promedio. El estudio incluye arreglos factoriales para realizar análisis de varianza usando ANOVA. Los factores controlables fueron: (i) edad de la muestra; (ii) granulometría de la escoria; (iii) diseños de mezcla; (iv) porcentajes de fibras y (iv) tipo de curado. Los mayores valores de resistencia obtenidos fueron 138.12, 132.17, y 155.29 MPa, con sustituciones parciales de cemento por residuos industriales del 35, 25 y 26% respectivamente. Los diseños de mezcla fueron fabricados aplicando un procedimiento simple, usando en la mezcla materiales como cemento, humo de sílice, escoria de alto horno, polvo de cuarzo y arena fina producidos en Brasil. También se adiciona el superplastificante diluido en agua y las fibras, las cuales se incorporan cuando la mezcla se convierte en una densa masa plástica. Los resultados demostraron que todos los factores controlables tienen influencia significativa en la variable de respuesta y que la probabilidad de que las variaciones en la resistencia sean atribuidas al error experimental es menor al 1‰.
