RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o teor residual da aplicação de doses fosforo (P) via fertilizante organomineral (FO) em dois solos cultivados com repolho e alface em sucessão. Em blocos casualizados, utilizou-se cinco doses de FO como fonte de P. No Oxisol aplicaram-se: 0; 50; 100; 200 e 300% da dose de P recomendada para o repolho com utilização de FO, mais um tratamento com 100% da dose via fertilizante mineral. No Entisol aplicaram-se: 0; 50; 100; 200 e 300% da dose de P com FO para a cultura do repolho, além de um tratamento adicional (100% mineral), com quatro repetições. Avaliaram-se a produção de massa fresca (MF) e seca (MS), estado nutricional do repolho e da alface e o efeito residual de nutrientes no solo. O teor residual do P no solo aumentou (p ≤ 0,05) quanto maior foi à dose de FO utilizada no Oxisol nos dois ciclos avaliados, enquanto que no Entisol isto só ocorreu no primeiro ciclo. Usando 50% da dose de FO no repolho em ambos os solos proporciona produção de MF e MS no mínimo 11% superior, comparado à adubação mineral.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the residual concentration from the application of levels of phosphorus contained in an organomineral fertilizer (OMF) in two soils cultivated with cabbage and lettuce in succession. In randomized blocks, five doses of OMF were used as a source of P in Oxisol (0, 50, 100, 200, and 300% of the P dose was recommended for cabbage crop using OMF), plus an additional treatment (100% mineral). The doses applied to the Entisol were as follows: 0, 50, 100, 200, and 300% of the recommended P dose with OMF for cabbage crop, plus an additional treatment (100% mineral), with four repetitions. The production of fresh matter (FM) and dry matter (DM), the nutritional status of the cabbage and lettuce, and the residual effect of nutrients in the soil were also evaluated. The P concentration in the soil increased (p ≤ 0.05) with higher doses of OMF in the Oxisol in the two cycles evaluated. However, this occurred only in the first cycle in the Entisol. Using the 50% dose of OMF in the cabbage in both soils provided FM and DM production values that were at least 11% higher than those attained with mineral fertilizer.

ABSTRACT. Filter cake has been one of the most widely used waste products as a source of organic matter in the production of biofertilizers. However, sanitized sewage sludge is a recommended alternative for agricultural use because of environmental issues. Studies that examine the use of this particular class of fertilizer are needed. The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of sewage sludge and filter cake as sources of organic matter in the composition of pelletized biofertilizers for soybean production. The experimental design was a randomized block design in a 2 x 4 + 2 factorial, which includes two sources of organic matter (sanitized sewage sludge and filter cake) and four levels of nitrogen (50, 75, 100, and 125%) relative to the recommended dose of phosphorus pentoxide compared with the mineral fertilizer. The use of organomineral fertilizer with the formulation of 75% sewage sludge showed greater growth for aerial plant parts. Biofertilizers formulated with sewage sludge and filter cake can replace mineral fertilizer and increase soybean growth. Quantitative changes in peroxidase, catalase and urease activity, as well as lipid peroxidation, were observed following the use of biofertilizers.

Resumo O fenômeno da ilha do calor é um dos muitos problemas graves causados pelo rápido crescimento urbano. Assim, os objetivos deste estudo foram: caracterizar e quantificar ilhas de calor em Uberlândia, avaliar a sazonalidade destas ilhas (inverno-verão) e identificar o efeito da cobertura superficial na intensidade das mesmas. Para identificar as ilhas de calor intra-urbanas em Uberlândia, os dados de temperatura do ar foram coletados em duas estações (inverno e verão) usando transectos móveis e estações climáticas fixas. As medidas de transição foram gravadas automaticamente a cada 0,5 segundos usando um termo-higrometro montado em carro movendo-se a uma média de 40 km h-1. O GPS foi usado para selecionar aproximadamente dez pontos de dados a cada 500 metros de cada transecto. As estações meteorológicas fixas mediram a temperatura do ar em três locais da região. A análise dos dados mostrou que as ilhas de calor intra-urbana em Uberlândia foram mais intensas no inverno (ΔT = 2,2ºC) que no verão (ΔT = 1,2ºC) devido principalmente à redução no vapor de água atmosférico no inverno (estação seca) e pela taxa de resfriamento radiativo maior nas áreas permeáveis. A metodologia utilizada no presente estudo mostrou ser uma maneira rápida e eficiente de realizar esse tipo de monitoramento.

Abstract The “heat island” phenomenon is one of many serious problems caused by rapid urban growth. This study therefore sought to characterize and quantify heat islands in Uberlandia, to evaluate the seasonality of these islands (winter-summer) and to identify the effect of surface coverage on their intensity. To identify intra-urban heat islands in Uberlandia, air temperature data were collected in two seasons (winter and summer) using mobile and fixed transects seasons. Transition measurements were recorded automatically every 0.5 seconds using a car-mounted thermos-hygrometer moving at an average of 40 km h-1. GPS was used to select approximately ten data points every 500 meters of each transect. Fixed weather stations measured air temperature at three sites in the region. Transect data analysis showed that the intra-urban heat islands were more intense in winter (ΔT = 2.2ºC) than in summer (ΔT = 1.2ºC) mainly because by reduction in atmospheric vapor in winter (dry season) and by higher rate of radiative cooling that is favored in permeable areas. The methodology used in the present study proved to be a quick and efficient way to carry out this type of monitoring.

Além dos graus-dia, vários são os sistemas de unidades bioclimáticas, embora sua utilização e limitação ainda sejam pouco conhecidas na cafeicultura. Diante disto, este trabalho objetivou avaliar o desempenho de quatro índices bioclimáticos para estimativa da duração dos subperíodos florescimento-fruto verde cana, fruto verde cana -fruto cereja e florescimento-fruto cereja, na cultura de café. Durante o ano agrícola 2008/2009 foram avaliados índice térmico, acúmulo da radiação fotossinteticamente ativa, índice heliotérmico de Geslin e acúmulo da evapotranspiração de referência, em dez cultivares de café plantadas em Uberlândia, MG. Os dados obtidos para cada índice bioclimático foram analisados através de estatística clássica, obtendo-se a média, o desvio padrão e o coeficiente de variação, em que este último parâmetro serviu de base para a escolha do índice bioclimático utilizado na quantificação da duração dos subperíodos de cada cultivar de café e na classificação do ciclo em precoce, médio e tardio. Verificou-se que os índices heliotérmico de Geslin e acúmulo da evapotranspiração de referência, apresentaram os menores coeficientes de variação médios entre as cultivares.

Besides degree-days, which considers air temperature, there are several bioclimatic unit systems. However, their use and limitation is little known for coffee crop. Therefore, this study evaluated the performance of four bioclimatic indices to estimate the length of the sub-periods flowering-light green fruit, light green fruit-cherry fruit and flowering-cherry fruit, in coffee crop. The thermal index, accumulation of photosynthetic active radiation, Geslin's heliothermic index and the accumulation of the reference evapotranspiration were evaluated during the agricultural year 2008/2009 for ten coffee cultivars, in Uberlândia-MG, Brazil. The data for each bioclimatic index were analyzed with the classical statistics, determining the mean, the standard error, and the coefficient of variation. This last parameter was the basis for the choice of the bioclimatic index used for the quantification of the length of the sub-periods for each coffee cultivar and for the classification of the cycle as early, medium and late. Geslin's heliothermic index and accumulation of the reference evapotranspiration presented the smallest mean coefficients of variation among the cultivars.

A utilização do lodo de esgoto na agricultura como adubo orgânico, é tida hoje, como a alternativa mais promissora para disposição final deste resíduo, em razão da sua sustentabilidade. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a produção de mudas de pinhão manso (Jatropha curcas L.), a partir de substratos contendo esterco bovino e diferentes concentrações de biossólido, como fontes de matéria orgânica e de nutrientes e o tratamento das sementes com fungicida. As sementes tratadas receberam o fungicida Moncerem® PM. Todos os tubetes continham 40% de esterco bovino e as doses de biossólido foram crescentes (0, 10, 20, 30 e 40%), complementados com vermiculita. Foram avaliados: emergência aos 14 dias, altura de planta, diâmetro de caule, peso seco da parte aérea e de raiz e acúmulo dos metais pesados Cd, Cr, Pb e Ni. O tratamento de sementes teve efeito negativo na emergência aos 14 dias e, consequentemente, prejudicou o posterior crescimento das plantas. De maneira geral, a adição de até 10% de biossólido ao substrato apresentou os melhores resultados de crescimento da muda. Com relação aos metais pesados apenas o níquel foi acumulado crescentemente na planta, à medida em que se aumentaram as doses de biossólido no substrato.

The use of sewage sludge in agriculture as an organic fertilizer nowadays is the most promising alternative for final disposal of this residue due to its sustainability. The objective of this work was to evaluate production of physic nut (Jatropha curcas L.) seedlings using a substrate containing cattle manure and different concentrations of biosolid, as sources of organic matter and nutrients and the treatment of the seeds with fungicide. The treated seeds received the fungicide Moncerem® PM. All the polytubes contained 40% of cattle manure and the biosolid doses were 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40%, complemented with vermiculite. The variables evaluated were: emergence on the 14th day, plant height, stem diameter, dry weight of the aerial parts and root and the accumulation of the heavy metals Cd, Cr, Pb and Ni. The seed treatment had a negative effect on the emergence on the 14th day and consequently harmed the subsequent plant growth. Generally, the substrate containing 10% of biosolid presented the best results of seedling growth. Regarding the heavy metals, only Ni was increasingly accumulated in the plant, as the biosolid doses increased in the substrate.

Para avaliar os efeitos de diferentes tipos de embalagens e ambientes sobre a qualidade de semente de milho doce armazenadas por um período de 18 meses, foram testadas três tipos de embalagens : papel tipo kraft trifoliado, embalagem plástica e acondicionamento a vácuo (0,1 atm). No caso da embalagem de papel, parte das sementes recebeu tratamento com fungicida e inseticidas. Para as sementes acondicionadas em embalagens impermeáveis, foram testados dois níveis de umidade de semente para o armazenamento: 8,0% e 11,0%. As sementes foram armazenadas sob condição de câmara refrigerada ou armazém convencional, tendo sua qualidade avaliada pelos testes de germinação, índice de velocidade de emergência, teste de frio, alterações nos sistemas enzimáticos ADH e MDH e teste de sanidade. Verificou-se que a condição de câmara refrigerada é a mais eficiente para a preservação da qualidade fisiológica de semente de milho doce, condição na qual o acondicionamento de sementes tratadas em embalagem de papel ou plástico foram os métodos mais eficientes para a preservação. Para o armazenamento em condições de ambiente natural, o acondicionamento a vácuo ou em embalagem plástica assegura menores reduções na qualidade fisiológica da semente após 18 meses. A incidência dos fungos Fusarium moniliforme e Aspergillus sp., em câmara refrigerada, e Aspergillus sp., em armazém convencional, é favorecida, independente do tipo de embalagem no armazenamento de semente de milho doce não tratadas com fungicida.

This study evaluated the effect of different packaging types and storage environments on sweet corn quality after 18 months of storage. Three types of packaging were evaluated: three-layered Kraft paper package, plastic package and vacuum conditioning (0.1 atm). Seeds stored in paper package were treated with fungicides and insecticides. Two moisture contents were evaluated in the seeds stored in impermeable (plastic) package: 8 and 11%. The seeds were stored in a cold room or in a conventional warehouse. Seed quality was evaluated using the tests of germination, emergence speed index, cold test, sanitary test and the evaluation of changes in ADH and MDH enzyme systems. Storage in a cold room was more effective in preserving the physiologic quality of sweet corn seeds, and in this environment, storage of treated seeds in paper or plastic packages was more adequate for seed preservation. Storing sweet corn seeds in a conventional warehouse, packaging under vacuum or in plastic package assured smaller reductions in seed physiologic quality after 18 months. The incidence of the fungi Fusarium moniliforme and Aspergillus sp. in the cold room and Aspergillus sp. In the conventional storage was favored regardless of the type of package in the storage of sweet corn seeds that were not treated with fungicides.
